The Challenge:

We start off with a Penelope song! And I swear she eats this up!!! She only has 2 songs but she goes crazy with the vocals!!! Her voice is genuinely like lotus, I am just absolutely entranced and just cannot stop listening for even a moment!!!

Penelope saying “husbands old bow” while the suitors say “old husbands bow” is subtle but so meaningful and shows how differently they think of Odysseus!

The “Waiting” callback from the underworld!

I’d listened to sneak peaks and snippets from like a year ago but hearing the actual version!!!! Antonious’s voice in this song is insane!

What is their problem with his bones!!! “You’ll have run out of bones to break when you and I are through”(Little Wolf) and “Hold him down while I slowly break his pride, his trust, his faith, and his bones”(Hold Them Down)

The way they talk about Penelope gives me worse shivers than the beginning of Thunder Bringer. But it’s also very telling of what the suitors actually think of Penelope!! They don’t care about her as a person. They just want the crown, and the power.

Overall great villain song. One of, if not, the best I’ve ever heard. I feel conflicted about liking this song because the lyrics are so dark but the song itself is sooooo good!!!

Odysseus:

Right off the bat, I love the name. The only names in song titles are monsters(Polyphemus, Scylla, Charybdis) so the title being “Odysseus” indicates that he has become some sort of “monster” and that’s a really cool form of symbolism to show it!(you can also hear the monsters names in the background throughout the song)

DO NOT talk about his family like that!

I like the “Where is he?”(Legendary) reverberation. It’s a nice touch!

He stole their weapons!!! This is some Athena level stuff!!

“You don’t think I know my own palace? I built it!” no notes! That line is one of the most perfect lines to ever grace Spotify!

It’s interesting that the suitors asked for mercy. They know as well as Odysseus does that if he didn’t show up who knows what they would have done!! It’s more of an attempted trick than it is an actual apology.

The way the suitor suggests “open arms” and Odysseus doesn’t even let him finish!!

Odysseus shows his cleverness and why he deserves the title “Warrior of the Mind” in this song.(though he is clever in many other songs).

DONT YOU DARE TOUCH TELEMACHUS!!!!!

Again with the bones!!! “I’ll break the kids hands”. Just leave the kids poor bones alone!!!

After he fell you mentioned that Lucifer lost the connection to his star. Besides loosing his bird form, and presumably some of his powers, are there any other negative effects on him?

I know it’s not cannon, but I had the thought that if there was something going on with him health wise, mentally or physically, from that separation then maybe the reason Lilith is in Heaven is she is secretly trying to find a way to re-establish Lucifer’s link to his star.

This is gonna be a looong answer. Sorry for that! 🥲

QUESTION 1

Actually yes. It really has some negative affects. So when he's disconnected from his star, he doesn't have a (I called it) "light cleaning". For me there is no evil or good magic, but I think their are indeed diffenrences between angel and demon magic. So for an angel it's pretty hard to use demon magic. So Luc was not only punished, disconnected from his star and injured - he was cursed. Unlike Lili he isn't a demon but cursed to use this magic which troubles his whole body. If he doesn't take care of himself, he would go crazy. That's why he is so "calm". All happy and stuff, just when he gets angry he might loose himself in the demon magic and become a horrific version of himself.

QUESTION 2

Huii. Yeah well my problem is, I didn't figured out yet how the puzzle connects Lilith to what. In my headcanon I'm absolutely sure Lilith is not evil nor a traitor. But I also won't go with Eve being just a bad person as Roo.

I read many theories about what Lilith is doing and how its connected to the story.

So here are my thoughts (but be aware, I haven't thought through it completly yet.)

So if "Evil" (later Roo, Root of all Evil) is the personification of evil, there must be an opposite site. And we saw that in the first minutes of the first episode. What if they both are parts of God? Just think about it. God is everything, right? So he is good and bad. And he splitted those parts from himself, because he was going crazy with their voices inside his head. Like angel and devil on your shoulder. So this is how they were born. Let's skip a few thousand years. The fall of Luc. God withdraws and let "Good" take charge of heaven. And "Evil"? She decided to go after Eve. And maybe they have a symbiotic relationship. You know like Venom and Eddie? So Eve and Evil became Roo when Eve died and went to hell. Because first sinner??? Dunno. Okay. Let's skip another few years. Lili and Luc are happy and stuff and the something happened.

Soo first we need to talk about all their motives. When Evil and Eve became Roo both learned something about the other. Evil learned what Good and Love is. Eve learned about Evil, Hate and God. Soo maybe Eve wants revenge but over the time her traget changed from Lucifer to God so she needs to get into heaven. And "Evil" may wants to help everybody, since she now knows good and bad. Okay. Lilith loves hell. She is free, can do what she wants ... and wants her family and an own child. So now we come to a very interesting theory. Liliths songs were inspirations for demon kind. What if her good motives "redeemed her"? If that's true, she could reenter heaven. Now that's interesting for Eve, right? Let's talk about deals. And here it goes wild. So Lilith isn't capable of giving birth, because of her curse. And no I don't see Luci as ... Just please don't. What if Eve gave birth to Charlie in exchange for the ticket into heaven. Now you may ask yourself, how can she pass that? Well Eve takes the image of Lilith. So in the early days Eve take care of Charlie, cause she neede several things. You know like breast milk ... and after that Lilith could live the next 180 years with her family.

Now we are in the events before those ominous 7 years. The deal. Lilith has to go incognito so Eve can enter heaven as "Fake-Lilith". But you can't fool heavens gates?! Eve can't, but "Evil" (a part from God) can. And where did Lilith go? Well she may become an overlord to help hell and her family. And which overlord?

"Who hasn't thought about eating their first husband? I would if he wouldn't taste so bad." Adam? 🤣

Yeah I think its Rosie. And Rosie knows Alastor pretty well. WHY? Because she helped him after the battle. But I really don't think she made that painful deal with him. Come on guys. This woman was fighting for freedom just to bind someone and force him to do something? Nah. That deal must be between Roo and him. The Eyes, guys. THE EYES. And Alastor helps Charlie, because of a favor for Rosie.

Five days late, but here we are! I promise I will post all 31 songs in celebration of Zach and Violet’s 10 year wedding anniversary this month, but I will be extending it out into November since I’ve gotten behind.

For now I leave you with this song! For Violet this song is representative of her devotion to Zach. Even when she realized he was in another relationship she did not give up on her hope of one day being with him. She knew “some things are meant to be,” and she prayed that would be true for them.

Below you can find a fanfic excerpt I posted on tumblr a few years ago that many of you have not seen! I am reposting it here! Please note the excerpt contains mentions of a panic attack and angsty feelings.

“Heellllooooo, Violet? Special delivery for my dearest cousin, it’s your latest edition of the ‘stalking my crush gazette!’” My cousin Paige happily announced as she bounced into the house with a newspaper and magazine in hand. 

“Can you please stop it,” I groaned in embarrassment. 

Paige winked at me, “when you ask him out, I will! I’m ready to be your matron of honor, you know.”

“You know I can’t do that…and you just got married, do you really want to endure another wedding?” I murmured. 

“Well it’s obvious he’s not going to do it, and if he did he’d run away afterwards….I really thought you were the only one who did that, but he’s just as bad as you are, you truly are meant for each other. And absolutely, love is in the air, let’s just go crazy and have you and mom get married to your true loves this year too!” 

I snorted and rolled my eyes as Paige took a seat on a barstool beside me at the kitchen counter. She flipped through a popular celebrity magazine, and I scanned the paper I especially ordered from Massachusetts to keep up on the happenings of Varmitech Industries, and by extension Zach. 

After a few minutes of us silently reading, Paige let out a quiet gasp, I looked to her and saw her snap the magazine shut and move it away from my line of sight at an alarming rate. She looked at me with a pained expression. 

“What’s wrong,” I joked, “it looks like you’ve seen a ghost? Did your favorite boy band break up or something?” 

“No, it’s not that, it’s ummm, it’s nothing…” she spoke with an anxious tone to her voice, and she looked away from me. 

I felt my heart rate accelerate, I knew Paige, something was wrong…she was hiding something, “Paige, come on, you can tell me, what’s going on, it can’t be that bad…”

She opened the magazine to the page she’d tried to hide from me, and she pointed at it as a tear silently rolled down her cheek, “he’s with someone….”

My heart dropped into my stomach as I chanced a look at the page she was pointing to, there was a picture of Zach, and a headline that read, “CEO of Varmitech Industries Has Mystery Lover.”

My mouth dropped open in shock, and I stood up quickly, knocking the barstool over in my wake. I grasped my V butterfly necklace as the breath I did not know I’d been holding left my mouth in a strangled sob. I backed away from Paige and the counter, and I began to hyperventilate. I covered my mouth with my hands to hold back my sobs when the tears began streaming down my face. 

My quaking knees gave way, and I fell to the floor, succumbing to a full blown panic attack. Paige wrapped her arms around me, pulling me against her, trying her best to calm me. All I could think was what an idiot I’d been, I’d fallen in love with someone who belonged to someone else. Someone who would never be mine…no matter how much I wanted him to be mine.

I walked by the ocean that evening fingering the butterfly necklace Zach had given me only a couple months before on the night he kissed me, the night I thought he’d fallen in love with me. I quietly sang the lyrics to “Can’t Help Falling In Love:”

I let out a growl of frustration, and I unhooked the necklace, preparing to throw it into the ocean. Before I could do it, I reached up to wipe the tears from my eyes and saw that a small, perfectly shaped red and black scallop seashell had washed ashore by my feet. 

I picked it up and ran my thumb over the surface of the shell, and I took a deep breath before I pocketed it. The shell had Zach’s colors…that had to mean something…I refastened the necklace, and whispered, “‘some things are meant to be…’”

AKA the struggle of finding the perfect Valentines gift for a son of Aphrodite

Eddie keeps staring at the flowers on display, feeling more pathetic by the minute. He hears a voice inside his head telling him he should make the flowers himself, but he shakes that voice away fast, it sounded way too similar to his dad's. Pretty arrangements were never his forte anyways, and he needs the prettiest one.

What kind of flowers should he buy? is even flowers a good idea? should he go for chocolates? can he be more basic than this? probably not, but tomorrow will be valentine's day and he has no other ideas.

He snatches the bouquet with the most pink and yellow flowers, Steve always wears soft sweaters in either one of those colors so he thinks it should be fine.

An hour later, Eddie stomps into another store, mumbling to himself. They aren't even dating yet, so why is this so complicated?

Why, of all the people at Half-Blood Camp, did he have to fall for a son of Aphrodite? how do you even attempt to romance someone who had the Goddess of Love as a mother?

He taps his fingers nervously on the glass counter, there are way too many options and he doesn't even know where to start.

He goes back to his cabin with a cheesy heart-shaped box filled with peanut butter chocolates - Steve would never admit it but he goes crazy for peanut butter - and places them next to the flowers.

Right before dinner and after hours of overthinking, the chocolate idea feels too lame in Eddie's eyes.

"So is this for Steve?" Robin asks. He's pretty sure she's smirking but they're talking just outside of her cabin, Apollo's, and the sunlight is just at the right place to make it shine too much for his poor eyes. He used to be jealous of Robin for having such a cool dad, but lately he feels much more content being stuck with Dionysus.

"It is not!" he replies, too quickly to be believable.

"Don't worry, your secret is safe with me" she pushes him inside the cabin, then picks up a piece of paper and a binder.

"This is a list of Steve's favorite songs. I know you don't like any of these so" she gestures at the binder "I've got all of my music sheets in here. No need to thank me, Munson. But remember to give them back, I have a great aim and your cabin is a weapon range from here."

Eddie passes most of the night learning Against all Odds by Phill Collins while looking nervously at Robin's cabin through his window.

It's Valentine's day, and Eddie is absolutely fucked. The flowers aren't pretty enough, the chocolate is lame, the song is overused and he's out of ideas.

He finds himself at Athena's cabin with only a few hours of sleep and right before breakfast.

He waits for Nancy to get out.

"This is about Steve" she states, not even questioning it, and Eddie doesn't have the energy to deny it.

"I'm running out of ideas Nancy! this was supposed to be a casual thing, no pressure! but then I mentioned it to him and he got so excited about receiving something from me and now there's no casualty anymore! There's anxiety, and he's surrounded by romance on a daily basis how am I supposed to compete with that?" Nancy listens to his rant quietly, not showing any particular reaction.

"So, how can I help?" it might seem like a cold response but that's exactly what Eddie needs.

He gets out an hour later, his stomach grumbling, his body pleading for a few hours of sleep, but with a poem about Steve's sun-kissed freckles and soft hair. Nancy wasn't much help with that, but she re-read it and made sure there weren't any mistakes and that his writing was clear enough.

"Eddie wait" Nancy calls for him as he's going through the door "you know how it is on valentine's day... Steve is one of the most admired kids in Aphrodite's cabin. So, whatever happens, don't let it get into your head okay? he likes you a lot."

It gets into Eddie's head. Big time.

He was never confident about the gifts he prepared but he thought at least one of them would've been fine.

That is until the parade of Steve's presents begins.

After the tenth bouquet of flowers he receives, Eddie stops counting.

At breakfast and lunch, he has a pile of chocolates on his table and it stands up even amongst his brothers and sisters who had received chocolates as well, just not as many.

The gift Eddie is most confident about, the poem, has to be ruled out as well since with most of the bouquets and chocolates Steve has also received white envelopes with his name written on them, in much nicer handwriting than Eddie's.

The song, Eddie's weakest gift since it isn’t his cup of tea and he had to learn it overnight, is the only thing he has left.

Despite it all, he gets ready for it. He doesn’t like the song but he loves a big gesture, so he goes to his cabin in the afternoon to grab his guitar, determined to surprise Steve with a romantic serenade.

When he comes back, he notices a big fuss around the amphitheater. Curious, he gets close just in time to see one of Robin's brothers guiding Steve at the arena's center, a guitar in his left hand.

Eddie rushes away, he doesn’t need to see anything more.

His gloomy state guides him to the lake's shore. It's cold but quiet, plus Eddie's favorite pastime consists in picking up rocks that catch his attention.

He throws a couple of them in the lake, kicks a few big ones, then sighs. A part of him hopes Steve is so busy with all his admirers that he forgets about him and his promise.

He crouches to have a better look at the smaller rocks at his feet. One catches his eye almost immediately: it's round, smooth, and mostly dark brown with gold cracks. Eddie cannot explain it, but it makes him think of Steve.

He's getting up with the small stone in his hand when he hears footsteps behind him.

"I knew I would find you here" Steve's smile makes Eddie's knees go weak, even at that distance.

He stops once he's standing next to him, both facing the lake.

"I guess you know me pretty well" Eddie points out, his eyes fixed on the water.

"Oh, I do" Steve smirks, confidence radiating from every fiber of his being. Eddie supposes that anyone would feel great about themselves after a day spent accepting any sort of gifts.

"So, I came to collect something" Steve breaks the silence, sounding less confident than before, more nervous if anything.

Eddie can't tell him about all the lame gifts he got for him, let alone go back to his cabin and grab one of them.

Before he can think too much about it, he takes one of Steve's hands and drops the rock on his palm "Here, happy valentine's day".

He realizes what he has done only after Steve's hand closes into a fist around the gift.

Eddie's eyes grow wide, his gaze flickers nervously between the hand that was holding the stone - the right one which he mentally renames as the traitor - and Steve's.

He tries to come up with excuses, but no sound comes out of his mouth.

Finally, as he's ready to jump in front of him and say something like "ahah this is a joke! I got you", Eddie looks at him.

Steve is radiant.

Eddie has rarely seen him smile like this, never at a stupid rock he had randomly collected. He is pretty sure this isn't the first rock he has ever given him, either. It's just a thing that Eddie does.

But Steve is beaming at the rock in his hand like Eddie has given him a piece of jewelry or a gemstone.

"Thank you Eddie, I love it" only then Eddie notices that he is also blushing.

"Are you sure? It's just a rock" he replies, nervously.

Steve raises an eyebrow at the question "yeah, but it's very pretty. And you love rocks."

"Oh," Eddie says, dumbly.

He finally understands why Steve was so excited by the idea of Eddie gifting him something for Valentine's day, why both Robin and Nancy told him he was stressing too much over something Steve would've liked anyways.

Steve would've loved anything as long as it came from Eddie.

"Now I feel bad," Steve speaks, oblivious to Eddie's internal epiphany "my gift is very lame compared to yours."

"You got me something, pretty boy?" he leans closer to him, into Steve's personal space. He smirks when he notices Steve's blush reaching his ears.

"Of course I did" he huffs "but you have to close your eyes if you want it" Steve looks away as he says it, clearly embarrassed.

He'd love to tease him about his red face but he decides to play nice and close his eyes.

He flinches when he feels Steve's lips on his. He slides his arms on his shoulders and around his neck, to make sure Steve doesn't misinterpret his surprised reaction. Steve puts his arms around his waist, pulling him impossibly closer.

Someone might say that gifting a kiss for Valentine's Day is very lame but Eddie realizes that, as long as it came from Steve, he would've loved it anyways.

its not often you get asked to join the biggest award show in Tokyo, you were nervous.

you weren't a very big star like those who were attending, but your recent release album had a specific song that everyone was listening to, which was why you were invited to watch other artist in-person sing, and get their hard earned award infront of thousands of people.

so here you sat with shoko and utahime, both soloists who released many big hits that end in the top 100, on a cozy couch as you watched the infamous megumi, nobara and itadori perform there crazy dance stunts on stage. you had never been more amazed. They were known for their hard, hip-hop dances and crazy choreography.

and they were young too, which amazes you even more. you look around to see more famous idols arrive with the aide of a staff member guiding them to their assigned seats, as they bow to show respect to their juniors and seniors.

nanami kento, a famous old fashioned singer, singing in the modern days. he was. a big hit amongst the young and old generation, you stand up along with your seat mates to bow and show respect, shoko going in for a hug with him because she's known him since there youngling days.

but you keep it respectful and bow, unaware of an eye watching your every move.

other idols were leaving the seating area to prep for their performance. The most recent performer was the classic duo gojo satoru and geto suguru, they were very well known, handsome looking and everyone fanned over them.

seeing them up close makes you understand how whenever you see them posted on social media, being mobbed by fans that every goes absolutely lunatic on them. they were all sweaty for performing hard cherography and their beautiful vocals, again a wave of idols stand up to show their respect as they were lead to their new assigned seats, which was the couch next beside you.

you clap with the crowd as another idol performs, but your quick to show some respect to gojo and geto as they take a seat on the couch next to you, you could hear a small thank you coming out of gojo mouths as you both make eye contact, his smile charming and dimples poping out, while getos smooth baritone voice thanks you which his pretty hair and face.

as you watched other idols perform a staff member comes your way ushering you to go back stage as your turn is yet too come.

back stage staff are squirming like chkens with there heads cut off, they were very busy fixing pervious artists makeup to look presentable when going back to the seat area.

the makeup artist was quick to get you in her chair to do touch-ups on your hair and make-up and clothing, too, preping you with ear pieces and a microphone.

a beautiful silk off the shoulder with long flower sleeves was the dress you had worn before going on stage. You never adapted to the nervous jitters no matter how many times you performed in front of crowds. just that this was 10x as large.

you were giving a microphone before going on stage, preping your stance when you hear the all to familiar mc introduce you.

"Now, give it up for miss beautiful y/n l/n!"

you can hear the crowd cheering very loud, almost taking away the nervousness you felt before as you listen to the ear monitor count you in.

starting off strong with a whisle to a riff.

as you finish your song your quick to wave a goodbye too the crowd walking off stage, the nervous jitters replaced with relief as the thought of people throwing tomatoes and jumping you because you sounded horrible didn't come for you.

you felt good after that. As you get a glimpse of the crowd, everyone had the flashlights on waving in a rhythmic way in sync.

as your getting another touch-up you see some other idols getting ready to go on stage, a familiar toji fushiguro and sukuna ryomen being handed a mic for there up coming performances.

"You sounded great love, congratulations." toji says, despite is intimidating look he's was very supportive. sukuna beaide him nodding in agreement.

"thank you, good luck on stage!" You say wave to them as the staff is now telling them their queue is on in 10 seconds.

being lead back to your seat was now completely a different seating. you sat near the big 3 megumi nobara and itadori, who started a conversation with you saying how you sang amazingly.

you can't help but feel bashful with the never-ending complements.

as all performers came to an end, it was now them announcing the winner of different categories and nominees.

"I'm shocked I even won this award, but I'm always grateful for the never endless love I've got. Thank you for all your support, everyone!" You keep it short as you stare at your award in a daze, still not believing you had just won this award.

as the award show comes to an end, waving goodbye to those fans who sat near the stage, you feel a tap on your shoulder causing you to turn around to see who it was, just for it to be the infamous gojo satoru.

"you were mesmerizing y/n, your sang so beautifully." he said, if it was in a quieter place you wouldve sworn he sounded shy while talking to you. he sounding genuine and sincere. "thank you, gojo. you and grto sounded great on stage." you sent him a smile as you're walking on stage. You don't realize he had a hand ghosting behind your waist. As the stage you were walking on had a thinner walk space, causing some idols to cram up in one spot.

as you finally get back stage, many idols made there way to the after party happening, but you just wanted to go home your heels were killing you when you were jumping with other idols showing support to idols who hadn't made an appearance in a while.

eventually, when going home you get a notification, showing gojo satoru had added you on Instagram. and your interactions had blown the internet off the roof.

many posted how gojo looked at you longingly, and in his next interview he posted, he blew up again after saying. "y/ns actually my inspiration for this next album, I'd love to do a collab with her one day!" geto smiling while shaking his head in agreement, "she's got a nice voice. I think we'd all have chemistry together." geto added on.

to say you have an upcoming album that you're sure your fans will love is something you can't wait to release.

Being a skilled artist with an excellent eye for fashion, Ellie often finds herself drawing pictures of her girlfriend wearing her fashion designs.

Ellie loves when Gabby goes into one of her silly rambles about what she loves, finding it adorable how excited she gets over everything, and loving the sound of her voice.

Gabby is a little self-conscious about her singing voice, but Ellie loves hearing her sing, no matter how loud she gets.

The girls have gotten into each other’s favorite music genres a lot, with Gabby generally liking more low-key and emotional female vocal music like your Billie Eilish and your Girl in Red (as well as Enej, which Word of God has confirmed her to love), while Ellie is very into pop punk. They’ve sung one another’s favorite songs together a lot. (Ellie’s favorite song is Only One by Yellowcard while Gabby’s favorite song is Everything I Wanted by Billie Eilish.)

💐Smell🌹

Ellie’s pretty vulnerable to smells in general. Having worked at an awful bartending job, she can’t handle the smell of alcoholic beverages without feeling sick due to the painful memories. Nonetheless, this makes Ellie love the scent of flowers even more. Flowers make her feel safe. Meanwhile, Gabby just loves flowers because she’s a nature-loving sweetheart and admires all its charms, smell very much included.

Gabby is something of a rose enthusiast. She knows which ones are the easiest or hardest to grow, and which ones have the smells she and Ellie like best. She can sometimes be seen online talking with fellow rose enthusiasts. She’s also surprised Ellie with many bouquets of her favorite roses!

The girls like stopping at perfume stores and sampling the perfumes they have on offer, and buying their favorites.

I’ve probably mentioned this before (apologies if I haven’t) but the girls dislike fast food outlets (especially given Gabby’s veganism and dislike of big fat corporations) and much prefer smaller businesses. Most of their dates are at tiny vegan cafes in towns and parks.

Gabby absolutely adores dark chocolate (girl same). The girls often grab any dark chocolate they find in corner stores!

The girls also love fruit sorbet, and regularly have dates in cozy ice cream and sorbet shops and sharing them.

🤝Touch👏

Ellie understands how touch-starved Gabby is and thus won’t hesitate to give her cuddles and kisses when she needs them. Regardless of whether they’re in public or in private, they cuddle and kiss a lot, and they feel safe in each other’s arms.

The girls adore warm fuzzy blankets. (you could’ve guessed by yesterday’s fic lol) They love cuddling beneath them, and whenever one of them is sick (usually Gabby because Ellie has a strong immune system), the other one will wrap them up in a freshly-washed fuzzy blanket to warm them up.

Gabby’s most tickle-sensitive spots are her tummy and neck while Ellie’s most tickle-sensitive spots are her sides and underarms. Both girls get jumpy if you even poke them there, but they’re always willing to let each other go crazy on those spots. Getting tickled by their lover brings them a lot of serotonin.

the music in rwby

i feel like i could talk about rwby's ost for HOURS. not even like, how the lyrics represent a character and/or their situation (thats a whole other post) but how everyone composing them NEVER MISSES!! every song is just absolute banger after banger ranging from full on songs with vocals by casey lee williams to just scores that are used on the episodes of every volume (that you can just listen to!! and i think that rules.) every song in every volume hits the soft spot in my brain that makes me smile (bmblb from vol4), makes me cry (forever fall from vol6) and gets super fuckin hyped n pumped up (die from vol2, especially the part with casey just full on screaming the lyrics) and to be honest theres a lot of songs in the albums that fit those 3 criterias but those are the ones i could remember as of late i also love how much the casey has evolved as a singer (i've heard that she's been singing for RvB since she was like,6) from vol1 where she was, i think, 12 and her voice was plenty AWESOME to listen to already, then came vol8 and shit went DOWN. the opening kicking off with "we said GOOODBYYEEE" goes so goddamn hard its unreal. every opening in this series goes incredibly CRAZY and its not even funny like every second of the songs in the series are so damn well composed with the catchiest beats and best lyrics ever (specifically lamar hall, he raps so damn fast in big metal shoe, vol6) by the way, jeff HOWLING in some songs he is wonderful, like caffeine (vol2) or the vol3 opening. hell, songs where its just him doing the vocals are incredible too even if there arent that many, like bad luck charm in vol4 orr not fall in love with you in vol3! ill be honest, i dunno who composed what and who did this n that but im ASSUMING most of the guitar parts were just jeff, like the swell and heavy guitar in touch the sky, vol7, that ones gives me summer (not the character) vibes and it slaps. i love the solos sprinkled around the songs as well and im glad to see them still present and incredible as always in the vol9. (RED LIKE ROSES PART 3!! absolute PEAK. i listened to it for like 3 seconds on borrowed earbuds and it felt like heaven on my ears) the whole of volume 9 was incredible too, checkmate is incredible with the flow of the lyrics and the doots and the BASS, oh my god the bass. its really cool knowing martin de lima, from ok goodnight (the band casey sings in!! check them out, i need to listen to more of their songs aswell, awake sounds HEAVY and im all for it) composed some of the scores for vol9 and i hope there'll be more of ok goodnight in future volumes (greenlight vol10) didnt expect to have written so damn much but thats ok. what im saying is : music goes hard, goes cool and makes me happy. hope it makes you happy too :)

Crystal shifts her weight between her feet as she stands in line, an exuberant smile on her face. She clutches a magazine close to her chest, occasionally glancing down at it. But she can’t look long, or she’ll lose it right here in the line at this local bookshop between the woman with five beach reads and the young mother and her child balancing stacks of Pete the Cat books in their hands. Instead, she concentrates her energy on living in the moment; the shop smells like robust coffee beans and the undeniable fragrance of books. The playlist is folksy and she recognizes the Noah Kahan song playing because Gigi had been singing it all summer after they’d taken a coastal weekend away just a month before. The trip had been a surprise, and they’d spent an entire day driving up and down the gorgeous, ritzy coastline of Massachusetts listening to lyrics about how everything’s alright when she calls me back. It couldn’t be more true.

Right now, Gigi’s in a timezone five hours ahead of her filming content for a brand Crystal has never heard of but Gigi absolutely idolizes. She’s been working like crazy, but the constant flow of it all has really helped her boost her name. She offhandedly mentions more than once that Crystal can even quit her just in case job now that Gigi has a steady following, but she hasn’t been able to do that yet. She doesn’t want Gigi to think she’s using her for her newfound money (even though they still bulk shop at Costco and get the cheap takeaway they like on Friday nights Gigi is home).

She gets to the front of the line and reluctantly lets go of the magazine, only long enough to let the cashier scan it.

“I don’t need a bag.” She waves her reusable tote in the air, but the magazine just goes right back into her hands. She holds the cover up for the cashier to see and in a loud, giddy voice she announces “This is my girlfriend.”

Gigi’s the front cover of Vogue, an idea she’d held on to since the start of her accidental modeling career and hadn’t stopped thinking about since. She’d told Crystal the moment she’d found out, sobbing on the phone in the middle of LAX. Crystal had met her at JFK with a bouquet of flowers and a sign that read Vogue cover model Gigi Goode.

Now, she gets to hold the magazine in her hand. Everything her girlfriend has worked so hard for in one binding of glossy papers. Well, two-Crystal’s bought one to keep and the other to cut apart so she can carefully frame the actual cover.

She’s absolutely mooning over the photo; Gigi, clad in a beautiful champagne colored dress that she’d made herself from something she’d gotten off the rack. She’d shortened it, added boning, and restructured the entire thing to turn it from Little House on the Prairie to Real Housewives (or something like that; Crystal’s still workshopping the joke). In the cover photograph the old dress hangs in the background like a ghost. The headline? Farewell, Fast Fashion.

“She made this dress.” Crystal points to the photo, turns around so the woman with the romance novels can see the cover too. “She’s so talented, and just the most beautiful soul you’ll ever meet. And this is just…it’s a lifetime of hard work.”

Crystal’s so close to crying now that she has to peel one hand away from her magazines to wipe at the corner of her eye, but she’s not embarrassed. She can’t feel anything but proud.

On her way out (after stopping to show a few other patrons of the book shop, pointing them to where they keep their magazines) she calls Gigi, who picks up on the first ring.

“My brilliant, talented, beautiful girlfriend, I have a copy of Vogue in my hands as we speak.”

On the other side of the phone, Gigi squeals.

“I haven’t seen it in person yet!” Crystal imagines her jumping up and down, her loose curls bouncing and her smile absolutely illuminating the room.

“I’ll send you a picture. It’s incredible, Geege. You look gorgeous. And I might’ve told everyone in the store that you were my girlfriend because I still can’t believe it.”

“Believe it, Crys. You’re stuck with me for life.”

They speak a little bit longer, Gigi reeling as the photos Crystal scoots over on the sidewalk to take of the magazine come through. It’s even better than she imagined, and she’s dying to see it in person.

“Two days!” She cheers. “One sleep! And then I’ll be home for weeks and we can cuddle and lay around and I can use my fancy Vogue money to take my girlfriend somewhere with the best dessert in the city.”

“Where’s that?”

Gigi laughs.

“I don’t know! But we’ll have two whole weeks to find it!”

My bedroom walls were lined with Taylor swift posters, I dressed up as her for Halloween, I played her songs when I was learning how to play the drums, and when I had the pleasure of seeing her perform during the Speak Now tour, my love for her only grew. She was an amazing performer, and even though I was just one person in a giant stadium, it felt like she was shining just for me. Her voice, performance, and ability to connect with a stadium of fans was unlike anything I’ve seen before… she’s the real deal! I loved being in a room with so many other fans that admired her and connected with her music just as much as I did.

Pass forward to 2020, a truly awful year for so many reasons, and she dropped folklore. Then evermore. The person that guided me through my adolescence was now guiding me through a breakup and all the other stresses of being freshly out of college and trying to figure out my life during a pandemic. Her music supported me and once again made me feel less alone. I remember listening to “the one” with my college boyfriend that I just broke up with in our apartment that we were about to move out of and we cried together. Her music said everything I couldn’t. It was like she knew what I was going through, and had the uncanny ability of weaving it all together into poetic lyrics, catchy beats, and a cohesive album.

Then Midnights came out and her first song was titled “lavender haze.” If you know me at all, you know lavender is my absolute favorite color. Once again, it felt like Taylor swift was playing just for me. Like she knew my heart, and understood me more than I understood myself. Midnights was like the rain after a storm. A much needed dance party after the chaos of the last few years.

Tbh, the impact she’s had on my life goes farther than I’ll ever fully appreciate. Her talent, artistry, work ethic, integrity, and willingness to grow are things that I will always admire about her. And the fact that she has been an idol of mine (and so many others) for this long now is testament to the power of Taylor Swift.

Anyways, I wanted to put words to how much she means to me, because she means a lot. And I’m so goddamn excited to see her perform next week, but this time with my boyfriend and no parent chaperone. 😋

watched:

mob psycho 100 - i watched seasons 1 - 3 of this back in july because one (the author) wrote one of my favorite manga/anime series - one-punch man - and i wanted to check this one out. i personally like one-punch man more, but this was still a funny and heartwarming watch! i absolutely love watching mob grow as a character, and i love the main cast - they're all so funny! \^o^/

bocchi the rock! - i watched this sometime in august because it's a friend's favorite music anime. i'm not a huge slice-of-life - i'm not too sure if this counts as slice-of-life - fan, but i enjoyed it nevertheless! the music was really good, and i loved the cast of characters and seeing bocchi getting out of her shell! ^_^

the disastrous life of saiki k season 1 - i watched this sometime in august, and as a shonen gal, this hit the spot. i absolutely loved watching saiki and the shenanigans that are being thrown his way! i'd highly recommend this if you want something that's a slice-of-life shonen! (*^▽^*)

aggretsuko season 2 - i watched this sometime in september, and i'll be honest - i've seen clips of season 2 but i knew the ending so i held off on watching the ending. until now. while i was heartbroken that retsuko broke things off, i understood why she did it and i'm so proud of her character development ಥ_ಥ

run with the wind - i watched this during the last few days of september, and it may be one of my favorite sports anime. i loved seeing our cast of characters grow and bond with each other, and while this didn't get the ending that i wanted, i'm still happy with how things ended. i also met one of my new favorite characters - haiji best chaotic and manipulative boy, lol (>'-'<)

one piece manga - the hype got to me - i'm actually reading one piece. O.O jokes aside, i heard that the author of one piece was going to end the manga sometime in january 2025, and out of fomo, i decided to start reading it. i've been grinding it ever since july, and i am currently almost finished with the zou arc - currently somewhere in the 800's. i haven't been reading as much because i'm a bit burnt-out, but i can say that it's a good manga series! i may have to reread it once it ends, lol, because i've just been speeding through it, but i can see why it's garnered so much attention and so many fans! \(@^0^@)/

jaehyun - flamin' hot lemon - this is my current favorite jaehyun song! i absolutely adore it - this song is everything! i love how catchy the song is and how jaehyun got to rap a bit, too! i also love the lore behind this song - apparently jaehyun went into the studio eating a bag of flamin' hot limon cheetos and asked the producer and composer to write a song based off of the snack - that is so jaehyun and i'm here for it, lol (￣��￣)

lana del rey - west coast - finally! a song that isn't k-pop! this is VERY late, but i absolutely love this song! i found this song when i was doom scrolling through insta reels, and one of the reels had this song. i was immediately enamored by it, and went immediately to youtube to check it out. and let me just say that it did NOT disappoint. i love how the instrumental changes during the chorus - which is my favorite part of the song - and i ADORE it (☆▽☆)

sam smith ft. taeyeon - i'm not the only one - would this count as k-pop? half-k-pop? either way, finally! a version of i'm not the only one that i actually like! i'm not a huge fan of the original version of this song, but i absolutely love this version! taeyeon's voice meshes so well with sam smith's voice, and i LOVE whenever she sings the "you say i'm crazy/'cause you don't think i know what you've done" part - it just does things for me! ＞﹏＜

The "aura" of Jazz throughout the years

Jazz- the music you think of when you see New Orleans.

Jazz heavily relies on improvisation, highlighted in solos. A person who plays in a jazz band can sound entirely different from another person in a band. Everyone has their style.

You know its jazz if it has a "swing" to it and you hear the "blue" notes. Speaking of instruments, it always sounds like one instrument is responding to another. Having a little conversation.

Jazz artists love to play renditions of songs. A popular song might have like 10 different versions.

Historically, Jazz did gain its popularity in New Orleans and formed as a combination of ragtime, blues, and march bands. Jazz itself has its own versions like traditional, swing, bebop, and cool jazz.

The first recordings of Jazz began in the late 1910s, but its predecessor, ragtime, began in 1817 at the Congo Square as the official place for slaves to play music and dance.

Lets start our journey with Mamie Smith's "Crazy Blues" from 1920.

Ooh I can hear the crackle of the recording. Feels very authentic. I can hear the instruments talking with her. I think I hear the clarinet here, its very high pitched and I'm not used to hearing it in jazz. What a good deep voice she has. She's really looking for that man.

The most traditional you can get with Jazz.

A little bit later, we got this absolute classic. "When the Saints Go Marching In." From 1935.

That man's voice though. Love the gruff and charm to it. He uses a female voice as an instrument. The classic trumpet (solo) is here and it has such nice energy. I love how he says he was happy to have "swung" the song to the audience. The clarinet here makes more sense. This is a iconic set of instruments here.

I feel like I can snap my fingers and "swing" to this song all day.

Now onto a duet from the 1950s!

This man's voice just, wow.

Okay now this is what think of when I picture Jazz. The light piano, the drum tapping with metal brush, the bass violin. Have you heard the Charlie Brown soundtrack? Sounds exactly like this. Pretty sure this is "cool" jazz.

Finally, we get to one of my favorite Jazz songs. From the 1960s.

There goes that clarinet and piano again. A bit more instruments in this song. This has that "big brass jazz band" sound- because its exactly what that means. Big band, lots of brass. It's identified by the rising sounds of the brass instruments, usually heightened at the end.

Lets move into the tech future of the 80s and listen to "All I Need is You" by David Sanborn.

So this is the first Jazz piece so far with no lyrics (Except a few words). People would call this elevator music nowadays. Immediately, I notice a new instrument- synth! That artificial piano with its light airy keys, even the bass sounds very different than previous songs- I think that must be an electric guitar too. Its super airy, and much more higher-pitched than the other songs- its really happy- and feels almost the opposite of cool jazz.

Jazz had been around for so long now. By this time, Jazz had to adapt to keep being relevant. So in response, new technology was used. And man, this fits the 80s so so well.

Lastly, lets finish off by traveling to the 21st century to see what Jazz is today.

Sound quality is astounding. Her vocals shine here. There are still the same instruments: piano, voice, drums, etc. However, this song is a jazz rendition of "Dreams" from Fleetwood Mac. Jazz renditions are popular in the 21st century, since its hard to come up with something completely original in the jazz style. This album "Beautiful Life," won a GRAMMY for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Everything in this song is so crisp!

Overall, after listening to all these songs- what was lost and retained in the "aura" of Jazz?

I can say that no instrument has really disappeared over the years. Since there are many styles of Jazz, every style calls for different instruments. The back and both conversations between instruments has been mostly retained. In short, we know there is a thread that ties all Jazz together, so not to loose the "aura" so much that we can't call it Jazz anymore.

What might have been lost is certain styles of Jazz, like the "cool" Jazz style or big brass bands, which we didn't see much in the late 20th century. If people want to hear that style of Jazz, any artist can learn the older Jazz songs and play it, as long as the license to play the song is free.

Jazz has always been about improvision, and yes, this means remediation of Jazz songs is bound to happen. But this helps keep Jazz alive.

Jazz is what you- the artist- make of it.

So I thought that I would also rate the RTC cast because it's already a hyperfixation and I've seen the musical at least three times (excluding all the clips and me having the Ballad of Jane Doe and Noel's Lament on repeat in my brain) in the past week :)

Jane 256/10 I adore her sm! The doll asthetic, her voice (upside down singing was crazy and I love me a good soprano), her reaching out for the others and waddling around was so cute. Also, I love me some analysis and she absolutely gives me lots of space to do this. Best character without a single doubt or care. She absolutely deserves the world and nobody can convince me otherwise. Also bonus, the behind the scenes Jane auditions just made her even cuter

Karnak 9/10 he's so sassy and when he obliterates Ocean, I am ALL for it. He also has this almost fourth-wall-breaky thing going on, and is kinda like a divine power ish and I'm loving that.

Virgil 10/10 he is ROCKING that bass. Also, mans been on screen for not even 5% of this musical yet he still captures the hearts of many

Ocean 7/10 -3/10 she's honestly a preppy bitch, but her song is an absolute bop and she reminds me of one of my ocs who is also a preppy bitch. But to be fair, minus ten points from Ocean because it's funny

Noel 10/10 I love him. He just wants to be that fucked up girl, and who can blame him? Another sass lord who I can and will take out of context. I love myself a king who knows his worth but still decides his dream is to live a tragedy anyway. Also, him and Mischa are just everything, ok? Together they tie for my second favorite character. Speaking of-

Mischa 10/10 goes right along with Noel as an all around great character. He has passion, rage, auto tune, respect for his culture, and the notion that he's the only character to give other members of the choir lines in his song speaks volumes to me

Ricky 5/10 he's cool and I like the space stuff and the 14 cats, but I just don't find myself with much to say about him tbh

Constance 8/10 Yas girl! You absolutely wreck Oceans song and come to accept yourself for the queen you are. She's so cute and the brown to purple hair that goes from an updo to down is absolutely me, and causes just a little bit of kinning going on there.

EXTRA! Talia 6/10 she's so pretty tbh, and I think Mischa needs to hop off so we can hop on. I absolutely find it hilarious that Karnak implies that her and Mischa's relationship wouldn't end well and that's great for me since Nischa is my only hardcore ship from rtc.
