bonjour ladies~
very slowly dipping my toes back into fandom fun after this beast tore my real life apart
Tumblr media
please make sure you force your parents to go to their doctor appointments so you don't end up like me with a dad (who'd had a cough for so so so long but refused to go to a doctor #men) being diagnosed with stage4 lung cancer and then dropping dead literal weeks later bc he'd waited too long for treatment to be an option :/
i've got a LOT of messages etc, so bear with me 💖 still feeling a bit wobbly and sad, can't lie, might disappear a bit longer~

The Potholey Bible
—Robin Bresnark, for Melody Maker. December 1999
Darkly intense rockers Muse, erm, Muse on childhood alienation, future deification and trashing toilets
"Aargh! Fuck!" yelps Matt Bellamy, Muse's singer/guitarist. "I've got a stalagmite up my arse!" It's not the most usual way to introduce yourself, but nice to meet you, anyway. Still, Matt and his gloriously dark, intensely intense band, Muse, should've seen a trip to a cave coming, after calling their last single...um, "Cave." Besides, this idea's much better than the ones we had based around their new single, "Muscle Museum". Well it's a lot less sweaty, anyway.
"The idea for 'Cave' came from that rubbish American book, 'Men are from mars, women are from venus', explains Matt, lighting up a comforting cigar, after we abandon the West Wycombe Caves to their bats and waxwork dummies. "There's this bit about how men go into a cave when they get stressed and I think that's probably true, although, personelly, I tend to let it out. I did have a bit of a tantrum in my hotel bathroom last night - but I managed to repair the toilet, so that's OK." You trashed a hotel toilet? "Um sort of. Everyone does that, don't they?" No. They don't.
Then again, not everyone's favourite hobby is flying Paramotors (like a jet-pack only far, far niftier), not everyone got punched in the nuts on his first day of school for being escorted by his mum and not everyone ruined their loved ones lives back in their tender, childhood years. "That's my guiltiest memory, ' shudders Matt. "There was this massive mirror in our house, a really expensive heirloom. And I smashed it. I was swinging this bucket and spade around and it just shattered. My mum ran up to me and screamed: 'You've cursed this family for seven years!' The next year, my parents split up."
Growing up in Teignmouth, Devon, the three members of Muse (Matt, drummer Dominic Howard and bassist Chris Wolstenholme) found themselves shunted into childhoods where, if you weren't a big lunk, music was the only salvation. What made it even worse was that each of them moved to this rural vacuum from various cities at the tenderest of ages (Matt 10, Chris 12, Dom 9) setting them at odds with their peers. "We were in a tiny minority at school," remembers Dom, "The only people at school with long hair and stuff. People used to beat us up, going: 'Ugh! You look like a girl!' "So we became hash-smoking stay-in types and never went to the pubs", nods Matt. "They'd just be full of drunk, fucking cunts—people who'd hang around looking for young girls to break in and young boys to beat up.
Good job they didn't get in the wrong way round really!" Small wonder then, that when the three of them eventually formed a band, it was little more than an excuse to scream like Kurt Cobain and trash everything in sight. On they trundled, playing tacky pub gigs and changing their name on a ridiculously regular basis (Gothic Plaque, Carnage Mayhem and Rocket Baby Dolls) until, one day, Matt noticed the word 'muse' between 'muscle' and 'museum in the dictionary and the rest was histrionics. Wonderful emotional histrionics. "Not everyone saw it that way though," recalls Matt. "We got barred from most of the places we played for being too loud! Maybe we should go back and vandalise their toilets..." Or maybe Muse have got a bigger toilet to trash now.
Earlier this year, Muse signed to Mushroom (over here [in the UK]) and Madonna's Maverick label (over there [in the US]). Since then, they've toured across Europe and the States, tasting morsels of the big time along the way. "It was shocking in France", grins Matt, "We did this signing and there was a massive queue of hot women lining up for autographs. Did I signed any breasts? It was France! There wasn't enough room!" Meanwhile, they recently released their debut album 'Showbiz', recorded with Radiohead producer, John Leckie - which will doubtless exacerbate the Radiohead comparisons Muse have (unjustly) suffered since day one. "We've met enough people who understand that we're different to Radiohead not to worry about that any more," shrugs Matt, and rightly so.
Muse's only worry now is that their inevitable fame will fuck them up even more than obscurity ever did. Something Matt is all too wary of. "Either you just start hating your audience," he frowns, "or you start to think you're some godlike character. Either way you're fucked. Would I make a good God? Oh no."
"I'd like to be Zeus," hums Dom, happily, "and have all nine muses hanging around every day. (They were his daughters– Greek Mythology) They were foxy, those muses." "Calliope, Euterpe," sighs Matt, dreamily. "But my favourite is Erato, the goddess of erotic poetry!" He's lying, of course. His favourite muse was always Muse.

— the girl groups enhypen’s gfs are in !

you just finished performing and your members were in need of water bottles
you just finished performing and your members were in need of water bottles
you just finished performing and your members were in need of water bottles
but fucking mnet didn’t provide any inside of your dressing room??
but fucking mnet didn’t provide any inside of your dressing room??
but fucking mnet didn’t provide any inside of your dressing room??
so yves told you to ask for some from the artist in the dressing room next to yours
you knocked on the door without looking at the sign that showed who was in there
you asked for some water bottles and heeseung went “i’ll go get it!” and ran off to go get get them
jungwon just chuckled and went “hyung’s a really huge fan of your group, he kept on singing star on the way here”
you nodded at the younger one, impressed at the fact that you were popular among idols
the tall boy came back with a whole box full of water bottles
“there’s 12 of you here right now so i figured why not get a whole box” he chuckled nervously
you giggled and smiled at the nervous boy
“thank you heeseung-ssi, i’ll take this to my members” you took the box in your hands but was taken aback on how heavy it was
“don’t worry i’ll carry it for you”
long after that you started hanging out and boom you became his gf
you couldn’t resist the charms of lee heeseung
once it was revealed that you were a couple, orbits and engenes went INSANE (in a good way ofc)
“wait so y/n DOESNT hate men????”
★ jay - aespa
OMG OMG LEMME TELL YOU ABOUT THIS BBY
you both met at school after you both debuted
everyone was gossiping around about how you were in the same class with the enhas
so like... monster rookies class
usually idols aren’t seated together but the teacher seated you and jay next to each other
causing a bunch of “oooohhhs” from your classmates
there were times were you and the enhas would leave school early due to practice or schedules
and on the way to the school gate, jay would always spark up a conversation with you
you assumed he was just very friendly
long story short he had a massive crush on you
so a few months into your friendship (which the both of you were very open about with your fans), he confesses
you were like “WAIT SO IT WASNT ONE SIDED THE WHOLE TIME”
y’all were just really blind lol pls read between the lines
anyways on to ur lovely bf !!
he’s so bold and brave around you but so shy around your members and seniors
we all know how he really respects nct (along with other sm artists) bc he covered the 7th sense with sunghoon on iland
so one day you were like “oh btw i showed taeyong sunbae you and hoon’s t7s cover”
he was like 😟 to 😧 to 😯
got all shy and was like “oh what did he say..”
you don’t know why he was acting as if he didn’t body that whole performance ????
anyway you told him that taeyong said that he and hoon did really well and that he liked how jay did his part
hid his face on the crook of your neck
“baby we should come say hi to them next time you go to sm”
“NO i will make a fool out of myself”
speaks english and japanese with giselle a lot when he isn’t occupied with you
sometimes you’d even have to ask nct’s shotaro to translate
your seniors (especially exo’s kai) adore him so so much pls protect the boy at all costs
★ jake - everglow
he was an active viewer of produce 48 and (like me) was really attached to the yuehua trainees
especially you
so when you got eliminated just before the last episode, he was devastated to say the least
he awaited your debut and when the time came he supported everglow !!!!
LOVED BON BON CHOCOLAT SO MUCH
does the killing part choreo in his room when no one’s watching lol
dies everytime you do the little “everglow” in songs
right so when he debuted in enha, he looked forward to meeting you as an idol and not a fan
when you shared a dressing room at kcontact, he couldn’t help but introduce himself to you
he mentioned he was a big fan and your heart warmed
cute boy is a fan of you? omg heart go brr brr
your members tease you and you just shake it off
that day when you got back to the dorms, you watched a bunch of enhypen videos bc you were interested in jake
you weren’t aware of how popular you were among people - let alone idols so you were surprised
you fell in love with his personality and started saying hi to him whenever you meet backstage at music shows
not long after, you develop feelings for him
you thought it was just a puppy crush but as you saw him even more, it got serious
you never actually confessed but aisha accidentally spilled the beans when he was passing by
“cmon y/n just tell him you like him because he clearly feels the same !!”
“you like me?”
“AISHA”
“that’s my queue to leave”
so she leaves you two to pour your hearts out to each other
you two become a couple and forevergenes (such a cute name omg) LOVE you two
you’re both the puppies of your group so that makes your relationship 103892x cuter
you met his parents and they adore you and even asked for your autograph
“jake used to talk about how great you are after every produce 48 episode”
“okayyyy i think that’s enough embarassing me mom”
his parents love you like their own daughter but does layla love you?
you were so nervous to meet her and was actually scared she might not like you - knowing how important layla is to jake
at first layla ignored you and jake was like “she’ll come around”
you were convinced she just doesn’t like you, until this one time you were cuddling with jake on the couch and layla comes in
you expected her to snuggle up with jake but she came to you :D
now layla is super fond of you and mrs sim would even send you pictures and videos of layla getting excited whenever you were on tv 🥺
★ sunghoon - itzy
you and the girls were at isac
the six of you were just waving at your fans and making heart signs with your hearts
on your left you saw yeji making hearts with ryujin so you wanted to do that with another member too
you felt a presence next to you and assumed it was someone from your group
spoiler alert: it wasn’t
sunghoon and sunoo were waving at engenes who just happened to be seated next to midzys
so you turned to who you thought was an itzy member, making half a heart with your hand
until you realized it wasn’t 💀
you bowed and apologized when you both looked at each other, you were scared you crossed a boundary
you bowed and apologized to the engenes who were there too
sunghoon and sunoo reassured you it was all good
after that, sunghoon couldn’t help but keep his eyes on you the entire event
when the day was coming to an end, he pulled some strings and ended up having some alone time with you ...in stray kids’ dressing room
don’t ask
ofc skz already left so it was just you two there
fast forward, you both hit it off and he became your bf <3
midzys and engenes love you both sm and love bragging about you two to other fandoms
you two were even named the king and queen of 4th gen kpop
oh also
you already know where this is going
“SUNGHOON HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW NOT SHY’S PROPER TITLE IT’S YOUR GIRLFRIEND’S SONG” - jay
brags about how he can do the shoulder dance in wannabe
ofc it’s bc you personally taught him
sends you pics of jyp as reaction pics
so you send pics of bang pdnim to him
every once in a while he reminds you of that video of jay why pee trying to hit a high note
“lmao that’s your boss”
PLS you always get super embarrassed so ofc you bring up that vid of hitman bang
“rAp dAncE-“
★ sunoo - stayc
you were his seatmate at school predebut
you came from the same town, same school, same neighborhood, etc
the two of you were extremely close and both shared the same dream
when highup entertainment accepted you, the both of you were over the moon
he was so happy for you
but sad too bc that meant you had to move to seoul :(
you promised him to do your best and that you hoped to see him again but as an idol
and hopefully when he’s an idol too
well what you hoped for came true !!
although you couldn’t see him much as a trainee - which made you quite sad - you got to follow his journey on i-land
you even asked your fellow trainees to vote for him
anyways now that you both debuted, you became close again and became really open with your fans on how close you were
you recommended his songs to swiths and he did the same to engenes
he even memorized the choreo to so bad and asap and lemme tell you this
he BEGGED you to teach him those choreos
“sunoo you can watch the practice on youtube”
“but i want to learn it from you”
he never really realized his feelings until he saw you getting shipped with his other members
you were both on weekly idol and the hosts really seemed to like how you and jake looked next to each other and they just teased you both the whole episode
that made sunoo feel uneasy and he thought it was only bc he was an overprotective best friend
turns out he had feelings for you (wow shocker)
so one day he asks you to come to hybe
after slightly getting lost, you meet up with him in a practice room
he confesses bc he felt like not telling you about his feelings would put a wall between you two
you appreciate his honesty and tell him you’ve felt the same way every since you were classmates
he scolds himself for not seeing it all those years but you just laugh it off bc you were pretty good at hiding your crush
you both agree to secretly date, until you both announce it on your five month anniversary
fans were really shocked at first... but they support you !!!!
engenes will not hesitate to come at anyone who talks bad about you and swiths feels the same way about jungwon
he gushes about you every single time you’re brought up
and you can’t help but love your adorable boyfriend
★ jungwon - iz*one
okay so
he was just an average high schooler when you were introduced on produce 48
his deskmate was watching your audition video and it was the part where you were doing this freestyle
he was SO amazed and he secretly followed your journey on produce 48
always made sure to vote on time and watch the episodes live
once the debut evaluation came around, he asked everyone he knew to vote for you and even bought tickets to see the show live
almost cried when he saw that you were center
ACTUALLY CRIED when you got into the top 13 😭
fast forward to him debuting in enha
he wasn’t able to catch up on you since he was busy with trainee life, then i-land, then debut preparations
but somehow in the middle of promotions he ran into you and BOOM love at first sight
fast forward to you finally dating, he couldn’t believe he was dating the y/n of iz*one
wizones make those “ladies and gentlemen, y/n’s man” edits and engenes make those “ladies and gentlemen, jungwon’s woman” edits
both fandoms love you two so dearly that the only hate you two got were from the delusional ones (who clearly aren’t actual fans)
when your last concert came around, he couldn’t bare seeing you cry when you said “this has been iz*one’s y/n, thank you everyone!”
he got flashbacks from when you cried during the final episode of produce 48 and he’s just.. sobbing bc he couldn’t be there to hold you
so the next day he rushed to your dorms with snacks and emotional support bc you were emotionally exhausted from accepting the fact that your journey with iz*one is finally ending
you felt extremely lucky to be in his arms and he felt extremely lucky too that he’s able to make you feel a little better
★ riki - weeekly
you were both on weekly weeekly idol together
and both you and riki being main dancers, you were asked to do random dance together
a few popular songs played and the both of you did the choreos
until after school started playing and the boy did the chorus’ choreo and you were like “woah???”
bc he was so INTO ITTTT
the song was basically made for him to cover it
and the mcs saw your reaction so they asked him to do it once again but this time with the whole group
after filming, he came up to you and was like “i’m a huge fan of yours” and you’re just like ):&/£]>\**_£]
“woah really???? i rooted for you on i-land”
and his face just lights up bc his huge crush on you developed even more
you became besties since then but he didn’t ask you out until your birthday
he took you out to a puppy café, knowing you were obsessed with dogs
you’d ask him to show you pictures and videos of bisco
“i better meet bisco once we go to japan together”
melted at the thought of traveling to his hometown with you
anyways
once you left the café, he kissed you in front of your dorms
and somehow he became your boyfriend <3
riki as a bf isn’t really a very public person
he’s the “this is our relationship, not the public’s” type of person
he doesn’t wanna risk companies wanting to exploit your relationship
although he doesn’t talk about you two much, he loves to brag about you when given the chance
whenever variety show hosts would fawn over you he’d just look them in the eyes dead and go “she’s mine”

Boy do I love this blog so, so much.
Was there a New Moon in the AU? Or did Bella put a stop to that nonsense immediately.
(Spoilers for the story Clotho (The Moirai Saga) ahead, beware!)
Edward: "Okay so what had happened was-"
-Bella and Alice appear, shoving him out of the way with a squeak-
Alice: "GURL YOU KNOW HE'S STILL AN IDIOT."
Bella: "I- ugh, I tore him a new asshole when he told me he didn't actually love me, and he got me FUCKED up, but he still left. It was rough, especially when my powers started acting up and I started having panic attacks and meltdowns. The wolf pack over here is a bunch of different families, all somewhat Irish, they're descendants of the people of Ossory. Jakes grand-dad immigrated here in the 60's. Actually, OI, JACOB-"
-Jacob shoves into the room, but knocks his head on the doorframe on the way in.-
Jake: "FUCK. Finally man, the Boyz can talk!
Bella: "Eagan (Embry) Got you saying that now too, huh?"
Jake: "Ye, it's funnier. Anyway, shit happened WAY different than in the original plot line. Bella and I still got to be friends, and she hung out with my fam a lot, we have massive bonfires cause my dads the youngest of eight kids.
I helped her find her own place actually! My auntie had a 2 bedroom 2 bath house for rent cheap and she took it on the promise of painting it and shit. Of course then she got mixed up in all of our chaos, especially with the pub my dad runs in town, we got the Blacks, and the O'Clearys and the Udys, three old bloodlines. Bella actually found out about the pack by accident, I uh...I had a massive crush on her and she wasn't ready and stuff got tense and I just...poof, y'know?"
Bella: -makes exploding hand gesture- "Poof."
Jake: "Paul didn't like it at first but she became a member of the pack, we don't really imprint like...romantically, it's super rare, but mostly we imprint familial-y, Bella kept helping Emily cook and clean up and deal with a bunch of rowdy guys. (we got put to work too, don't worry) And she just meshed. She also became our field medic. It got so bad that if we weren't at The Farm, we were probably sprawled out on Bella's living room couch and floor, passed out.
Bella: "It was like snow white and the 7 goofy werewolves, it was great. Leah disliked me at first, but she still went through that thing with Sam, so she was struggling. We actually bonded over the whole "Fuck having a supernatural Ex" thing. Girls gotta support each other, you know? She and Emily also made up with a little time. When I was having my nightmares, facing all the shit that was going down alone and helpless, I told her about them. She's a professional kickboxer! She's fucking badass!! I begged her to train me and kept shoving cash at her until she let me hire her. I was USELESS at first, but she ran me hard, and eventually I could even hold my own in a fight against (human) Seth! All the while, Jake here was finding it hard to keep it in his pants, but he was really my rock, I tried to do everything I could to support him through his change and the aftermath, but it...well. You know who I married. -she cringes, Jake puts an arm around her shoulder for a rough squeeze and a small smile, obviously forgiving-
Jake: My crush was hard man, it still is low-key, (J: 👀 B: 😑) but...well, her panic attacks were still coming. And one night we were dancing, and I...well..."
Bella: "We kissed, I was so desperate to move on, feel something else, but I panicked. It wasn't right."
Jake: "She bolted from the party, ran into the woods, I remember screaming, and then this awful earsplitting sound, and a shockwave.
Bella: "....I kinda, blew down like 30 square feet of the forest around me. Thats when I realized all the popping lightbulbs and shaking surfaces weren't earthquakes...but, well, me. It was the worst panic attack I've ever had. So now, my vampire Bf dumped me, my best friend is a werewolf, and I can fuck shit up with my mind on accident when I'm highly emotional. Queue complete mental breakdown."
Jake: "...Then the redhead showed up."
Bella: "Victoria...she killed my coworker, my friend, horribly, gave him the same injuries James did to send the message. We realized she would start going after the people I was close to if she couldn't get to me. I pretty much hunkered down at The Farm after that, the pack did rounds and tried to protect so much land...I was terrified someone was going to get hurt. When she attacked The Farm, we were blindsided. She caught Seth around his chest and almost crushed him. I was terrified, I managed to use one of my "Bubbles" to blow her away from both of us so I could get him to safety and reset his ribs."
Alice: "And all 𝘐 saw was victoria closing in on Bella from above for a third of a second, when she let out her bubble, so, ofc, I thought she was dead and immediately bolted back to Pullman. Everyone else came too, Carlisle, Esme, Emmett, Jasper... We were so shocked Victoria went after her and 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘴.
"We found out, when we arrived at her apartment and she was still alive and being guarded by werewolves, that it was because my dumbass brother never gave her my goodbye letter, and lied to both sides about his intentions for what happened that day in the woods. He told the family he was going to tell her the truth, that he was going to take himself away from the situation and see if she couldn't move forward, if she couldn't have a human life. Not that he was going to lie to her that he "found out it was infatuation and not love" or whatever the fuck the Drama-King decided made sense. -steps hard on Edward, he squeaks mournfully-
"Emmett and Jazz were about ready to hunt him down for not giving her a way to contact the family, Esme was devastated that Bella thought we'd just abandoned her, Rose was...well, rose, and Carlisle and I were dissapointed, (mine was more on the murder side tho.)
Bella: "We really didn't think it could get much worse, but Edward's creative."
Alice: "Rose calls him to tell him Vicky killed Bella, because EMMETT NEVER FUCKING CALLED HER. Edward flies into a fucking rage tantrum and ofc, goes to italy. When I told her what was happening, Bella was 𝘱𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥, like, walls shaking, lightbulbs popping pissed, and tbh I kinda wanted to see her kick his twink ass."
Bella: "...The emotions were wild. Rage, betrayal, relief, fear, it was such a jumble. When we got there, saved him, and got passed the volturi, we stayed overnight- well, over𝘥𝘢𝘺 in one of the dorm room things. I was still in my funeral dress and nylons and had lost my shoes, so they let me shower and sleep. First however, I laid into Ed. I wasn't going to carry the weight of "if I accidentally die, I'm gonna be the fuckin reason Edward is taken from his family too." Especially not as a Human. I informed him he was going to come home, apologize, take his lumps, and cope. He was a grown ass man and he needed to act like one and clean up the mess he made."
Edward, from the floor, muffled: "Safe to say, I learned my lesson. My self flagellation and pity-party was immature at best, destructive at worst. I apologized to Bella and my family, and did not yet ask for forgiveness, just for the opportunity to prove that I 𝘩𝘢𝘥 learned something from all of this."
Bella: "...We didn't get back together at first. I couldn't trust him, and he obviously did not trust me or my feelings. But I still loved him. When he was there for me and recognized/supported my autonomy, over a little bit of time I was able to trust him again. I think we both grew a LOT during the experience, and while it sucked the whole time, it was also a catalyst for better things to come. Jake was upset, at first, but we had a long and hard talk. Honestly about what I was able to give to a friendship and if it would be enough for him. He eventually decided, that it was. We still bro's. He even made friends with Edward."
Jake: -Grins and steps on Edwards head. Edward growls and rolls over to drag him to the ground. The boys play-wrestle in the background, though it looks less playful than others. Growling, gnashing, and the word 'fuck' is heard often from the fray.-
Alice: "Idiots."
Bella: "The Cullens and the wolves actually bonded as Esme and Sam strategized about the newborn war. We're not "natural enemies" after all, just smelly to alert the other we're in the area. So Jake and the pack and I are still close as ever. "
"Sorry if this was long winded, but it deserved an explanation! I'm gonna go break the boys up now, thanks for your question!"

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 Review: Still Possesses Turtle Power After All These Years
Tumblr media
Cowabunga all you happy people! I freaking love the Teenage Ninja Turtles. I grew up with it from Turtles in Time, which was my first video game, to the 2003 cartoon, which I covered the first three episodes of last month, and on to present day as I re-read the idw comics after finally reading the original eastman and laird run of mirage, and impatiently waiting for Shredder’s Revenge to come out after a LONG drout of no good TMNT games. I”m a fan of these heroes four, their dynamic as a family, the endless possiblities that come from it’s long history and ablitlity to go anywhere in any genre, and the wonderful goofy shit that happens when you have a franchise about mutant turtles learning ninjitsu from a rat and fighting a dude covered in knife covered samurai armor.
So with me finally covering the guys after almost a year last month and with a new movie set to debut at some point this year, I had the bright idea to revisit the FIRST TMNT movie after way too many years of not watching it. This movie is anear and dear to my heart: When I first started getting into the boys big as a kid with the 2003 cartoon, I badly wanted more turtles. But back then it wasn’t nearly as easy to glom onto some more of the sewer shock pizza kings: Streaming sites with all the cartoons on them weren’t all that accesable, dvd’s were expensive for the 87 cartoon, Mirage wasn’t reprinting the comics in any meaningful way and my local comic shop didn’t have any at all and I could only play the SNES when my brother had it set up on occasion like at our Grandma’s farm.
As you probably guessed though there was one exception: the original 1990 movie, which I got at Walmart for 5 bucks and haven’t let go of since. It was one of my first dvds and is still one of my most precious. Said film hit the spot just right as like my beloved 2003 series, it was a mildly goofy but still fucking cool adaptation that stuck closer to the mirage comics, even more than the 2003 series would, while taking a few queues from the 87 series. This film is as precious to me as the 2003 series and a with a brand new movie coming up, I figured it was the exact right time to dig into this classic: what makes it still good to this day, what’s fun to point and laugh at, and how the heck Jim Henson got involved in this. So join me under the cut as I take a look at my boys first theatrical outing and why I still love watching a turtle.
Tumblr media
No One Wanted To Make This: Before we get into the film itself some background. As usual I struggled a bit, but thankfully found some help in the form of this Hollywood Reporter article.  It’s a fascinating read worth your time, providing an oral history of the film from the people who worked on it.
The film was the baby of Gary Propper, a surfer dude and road manager for the prop comic Gallagher, aka that guy who used to smash watermelons but now has instead opted to smash what little’s left of his career by being a homophobic douchenozzle. He found an ally in Showtime producer Kim Dawson who’d produced Gallagher’s special. I don’t think there will be more of an 80′s sentence than “Gallagher’s surfer dude agent wanted to make a teenage mutant ninja turtles movie”. Propper was a huge fan of the comics, and with Dawson’s help convinced Laird and Eastman to let them option it to studios.
It may come as a shock to you but the road agent for a homophobic watermelon man and a producer at a niche cable channel wanting to make a movie based on an underground comic book about masked turtles at a time when the two most recent comic book movies were Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and Howard the Duck, did not go well. Every door in Hollywood got slammed in their face, even Fox> Even the eventual backer of the film, Golden Harvest, a hong kong action film studio, took months to convince to actually back the film.
Things did not get easier from there: The films writer Bobby Herbeck had trouble getting a story agreed on because Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s working relationship had deteroiated horribly from the stress so naturally the two could not agree on a damn thing and argued with each other. Peter Laird  made a tense siutation even worse by constnatly sniping at Herbeck and feeling he was a “Hollywood outsider infringing on his vision and characters”
Tumblr media
Granted the script was apparently not great... but Pete still comes off as a pretnetious ass who views his weird indie comic as THE HIGHEST OF HIGH CALLINGS HOW DARE YOU SOIL IT. And continued to be kind of a prick like this throughout the rest of his time with the property.
Thankfully the film found i’ts voice, vision and director in Steve Barron. Barron was a music video guy who knew the producers and while reluctant, eventually dove into the project rightfully thinking the film would need to be a mix of the mirage comics and 87 cartoon, keeping aprils’ reporter job, the turtles lvoe of pizza and their iconic color coding from the cartoon but adapting several stories from the comics as the backbone of the film. The guys liked barron MUCH better and things ran smoother.
Barron also brought in one of the film’s biggest selling points and it’s most valuable asset: it’s triumphantly awesome Jim Henson costumes. Barron had worked with good old Jim on the music videos for Labyrinth, and while it took some convincing since the comics were violent as hell and that wasn’t Jim’s style, Barron eventually got him on board. This naturally doubled the budget, but given Henson’s costumes STILL hold up today and look better than the cgi used in the platinum dunes films... it was a good call. And this was brand new tech for jim, having to invent tons of new ideas and mechanisms just to make the things work, and said things still were absolute hell on the actors. Jim later ended up not liking the film for being too violent... which I find hilarious given how many muppets got eaten or blowed up real good on his show but regardless, I thank this legendary and wonderful man as without him this film WOULD NOT have worked. The costumes here look great, feel realistic, and you can’t tell the actors were dubbed much less horribly suffering in those suits. Much like Disney Land.
The film would get picked up for distribution by New Line, and despite i’ts weird as hell origins and the long shot it had.. the film was a MASSIVE hit at the box office, owing to a combination of Batman 89 the previous year having proved comic book movies can work for audiences, the cartoon’s runaway sucess, and a massive marketing campaign. The film made it’s mark. So now we know how we got here let’s get into the film itself.
What’s the Story Morning Glory?:
So the story for this one is largely cobbled together from some of the more notable arcs Eastman and Laird did before handing off the book to others full time as the stress of the company and the mounting tension with each other made it near impossible to work together on the book itself.
To Save time i’m just going through what hte movie takes from the comics plot wise now to save me the trouble later:The movie takes elements from the first issue (The Turtles, Splinter and Shredder’s backstories, Shredder being fully human and the main antagonist, Shredder’s design and the final rooftop showdown that results in Shredder’s death), second and third, (April’s apartment over her dad’s old store and the turtles moving in when their home is ransacked and splinter has gone missing), the rapheal micro series (A tounge in cheek way of cashing in on the Mini-Series craze of the 80s, a one shot by modern standards and something that’s tragically been underused as an idea as only TMNT and MLP have used the idea at IDW, Raph meeting casey and their fight with one another), the return of shredder arc (One of the turtles being ambushed and mobbed by the foot and then thrown though a sky light (Leo in the comic and Raph here), the turtles being horribly outnumbered by them, Casey coming ot the rescue and metting the non-raph turtles for the first time, and them being forced to escape when the place goes up in flames), their exile to northampton (April writing in a journal, casey working on a car with one of the guys and one of hte guys looking over hteir injured brother), and finally, their triumphant return which was very loosely adapted as there are no deformed shredder clones and shredder not being dead yet in this version was not brought back by a colony of super science worms.
Tumblr media
So as for how this all comes together: Our story takes place in New York: A crimewave is high with muggings mysterious. There are a ton of phantom thefts going around and at most people have been seeing teens responsibile. And the police.. are at about this level of useful:
Tumblr media
The only person doing something is April O’Neil, played by Judith Hoag. Hoag is easily the standout of the film, giving us a strong, confident woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She honestly might be my faviorite April O Neil, and given we’ve had some great ones with 2003, 2012 and Rise, that’s not something I say lightly. I honestly wish I’d recognized her in more stuff as she was both on Nashville and the mom in the Halloween Town films, and most recently was on the ScFy show the magicians. She’s a talented lady and i’m glad she’s still goin.
April is a reporter for Channel 3 like the cartoon, though for some weird reason her boss from the cartoon is replaced by Charles Pennigton, played by Jay Patterson, whose currently dealing with his troubled son Danny, played by Micheal Turney. Pennington is horribly useless at both jobs: At work he tries to ease April off calling out Chief Sterns, who refuses to listen to April’s evidence gathered from japanese immigrants that the crimes resemble similar ones in japan in favor of trying to get charles to shut her up. Danny meanwhile is a member of the foot becase his dad thinks shouting out him and talking about him like he’s not there and generally being a dipstick will actually do anything to help him.
I love the concept for the foot here. In addition to being a Ninja Violence Gang as always, they now recruit new members by finding kids without families or with troubled family lives and giving them a sense of family with the foot, and sweeting the bargin with a giant cave filled with arcade machines, a skate ramp and general late 80′s early 90′s kids goodies. Is it rediculous? Yes. Is it also clever as it gives Shredder an easy army of plausably deniable theives that he can pick the best out of to put in his elite that will be tirelessly loyal to him and him alone? Also yes.
So April being public about this stuff gets her attacked, which naturally leads to our heroes coming in, first in the shadows and later directly when April wont’ give up on the case and Shredder sends some ninjas to go shut her up.. which he does weirdly as the guy jsut slaps her and tells her to cut it out like he’s on a domestically abusive episode of Full House. Raph saves her, and we get the turtles origin.. though weirdly they cut it in half. We get the ooze portion but Splinter’s past with Saki, Saki’s murder of his master and his master’s partern Tang Shen is left for later in the film and the fact Shredder’s saki is treated as a big twist despite the fact the biggest audience for the film would be kids... and kids would’ve been familiar with the cartoon where the giant brain monster routinely screeches out saki at the shredder. Maybe Barron just thought he was an alcoholic I don’t know. It just would’ve made more sense to have it all at once and let the audeince put it together.
April becomes good friends with the turtles over a night of frozen pizza and camradrie, but the Splinters return home to find it ransacked, Splinter kidnapped by the foot, and are forced to Stay with april. Charles meanwhile tries to get April to backoff because he made a deal with the police to clear Danny’s record, without TELLING her any of this mind you, but I will save my rage on that little plot point for in a bit as Danny who he drug along sees the turtles and tells the Shredder.
So we get the return of the shredder arc as Raph goes through a window, our heroes fight valiantly, and Raph’s friend Casey who he met earlier shows up, the two having bonded as all true friends do.. by beating the shit out of each other ending with raph shouting DAMNNNNNNN really big and dramatically into the sky for some reason. The Turtles and friends escape with an injured raph from April’s burning second hand store. She had a second hand store it was poorly established and only there because she had it in the comics.
Our heroes retreat to a farm April’s grandma owned in Northampton, Massachutes, where Mirage was located at the time the original comics where they were exiled to the place were written and a location that has been a staple of the turtles ever since. The turtles slowly recover, lick their wounds, talk about who hooked up with who on gilligans island etc, before Leo connects with Splinter via meditation, who tells them to come back. Splinter also starts to connect with Danny and convinces him to swtich sides.. or at the very least squat in the boys old home.
The boys return home, find danny, and prepare, Danny goes back and ends up giving away the Turtles are home.. but the turtles are ready and in an awesome sequence kick the fuck out of the foot squad sent for them with some well prepared steam vents. Casey goes to get splinter since Danny told them and with Danny’s help, finds him, since Danny found out they were gonna kill him. Casey beats up Tatsu, shredder’s right hand man, and they get him out.
We get our final fight which is awesome up until the climax.. which is splinter casually tripping shredder with nunchucks and thier bloody history being kind of rushed and unsatsifying. Casey crushes shredder with a garbage truck, April gets her job back, more on that in a moment, she and casey hook up, and we end with the fucking awesome song T-U-R-T-L-E Power by partners in cryme. Seriously check it out it’s fucking triumphant.
youtube
The song is just good.. cheesy? Sure but that’s half the fun. It’s the gold standard for movie theme songs for them and stacks up handily with the various animated series themes.. all of which slap. Okay... ALMOST all of which slap. Fast Forwards is aggressively medicore, which is doubly suprising to me since 4kids was REALLY damn good with theme songs. It was one of the three things they were best at along with finding VERY talented voice actors and setting japan based works in america because merica dammit.
The plot is very solid: It skilfully packed half of eastman and laird’s run on TMNT into 90 mintues while adding things like April’s job at channel 9, the way the foot recurited kids etc. The plot flows well for hte most part and apart from one annoying subplot we’ll get to never has a moment that feel unecessary or dosen’t pay off later. And the stellar plot and fun pacing of it helps boilster the characters that do work... and help paper over the ones that are so thin the’yd fall down a grate...
Our Heroes, Villains and Annoying Middle Aged Guys:
Yeahhhh character is hit and miss here. Some are rather strong, others are the bare basics for the character their adapting and most are just to serve the plot but some work some don’t,  So let’s talk about it starting with our boys:
Raph is the most fleshed out of the turtles, being the main focus of the first 2/3 of the film, and having his anger be part of what SHOULD be a character arc, learning to temper it. And while granted MOST TMNT properties do this, to the point that Rise Raph is so loveable in part because his boisterous bruiser big bro attitude is a refreshing break from the usual grumpus we get. But at the time this hadn’t been done in every version but the 87 cartoon, so exploring it was valid.. but despite saying this should be a thing htey just forget about it and the most plot relevance he gets is going thorugh a window. He dosen’t really get a resolution.. his arc just kind of stops dead for the final half and it’s one of the film’s weaker points, one I only just now noticed on this rewatch. He’s still the most entertaining.
Leo is the weakest of the turtles. He really lacks a personality here mostly just being leader and while his spirtual side is touched on, it’s  mostly a plot device. He’s just kinda the leader because he was in the comics to the point Partners in Cryme called Raph the leader. His role in getting taken out by the foot was taken by Raph, so he just has.. nothing to do for most of the film other than gripe at raph ocasionally and say orders. He’s probably the worst Leo i’ve seen outside of Next Mutation. I prefice that because after watching Phelous’ review it’s VERY clear those four are the worst versions of the characters, and no personality is still better than either having your team do nothing or yelling at them as your personality. I chalk this up to the Mirage Leo, and the mirage turtles to a poit being kind of bland. Not TERRIBLE characters, especially for the time, but not nearly as fleshed out or individualized as they woudl be in other adpatations, and with most traits LEo DID have, like his badassery flat out gone, he’s just.. nothing here.
Mikey and Donnie are a double act here with both sharing a brain. Interestingly instead of his normal genius character, Donnie is Mikey’s best friend and the two simply trade jokes and schtick together. The two are interchangable.. but easily the best part of the film and a lot of the most memorable gags and lines, from Ninja Kick the Damn Rabbit! to “Do you like Penicllin on your pizza”, are from them. Thier there almost entirely as comic relief but it works, with both clealry being more modled ont he 87 cartoon turtles, a move that helps lighten the mood in darker moments. Their just genuinely charming and it’s intresting to see such a diffrent version of Donnie, and other incarnations, specifically the 2003 and Rise versions, would retain the sarcastic edge.
Splinter is splinter. That’s about it, he’s peformed well and the puppet is amazing but he gets kidnapped a half an hour in and outside of influcencing Denny, more on that in a moment, and finishing Shredder he dosen’t do much but spout exposition. He’s not bad or anything, but he’s essentially a rodent shaped plot device. He was also puppeted by Kevin CLash, aka the guy who does Elmo. So there you go.
April on the other hand.. is truly excellent. This might be my faviorite April. Judith’s april nicely blends the cartoon and mirage versions: She has the cartoons energy and job, but the comics sheer will and casual nature. Judith just oozes personality and her April is just a joy to watch, from her breezy chemistry filled interactions with the guys to her confrntation with Chief Sterns, knowing she’ll get thrown out by the asshole. She’s confident, and even when afraid dosen’t back down to her attackers and even helps out during the sewer ambush. I mean it’s a pot on the head but still it’s neat. She’s easily the best part of the flim and the most fleshed out of the cast. The worst I can say is they kinda shove her store from the comics, Second Time Around, in there for no other reason than it was in the comics: It dosen’t come up until it’s needed for the foot’s assault on her place. But overall.. she’s just fantastic to watch.
Speaking of fantastic to watch, Elias Koteas is fantastic as Casey. Seriously he’s only second to the 2003 version in my eyes, getting the concept of a testorone filled average guy who decided to just go out and hit people with sports equipment after watching too much A-Team.. I mean that part of it’s not in this version but it’s implied, just right. Like judith, Elias is just really funny to watch and his big scenes, showing up just in time during the foot assault on april’s place and his fight with Tatsu are some of the best parts of the film, the former taken directly from the comics. This version isn’t without problems: His friendship with Raph, his most endearing aspect and one that has been carried throughout eveyr version Casey’s important, with the only exception so far being rise and we have a movie to fix that, is absent here. HE does save the guy, but they don’t really bond or anything. In fact he disappears for about half an hour after his big fight with Raph. But... again he’s just so damn entertaining, down to his JOSEEEEEEEEEEE Conseco bats (There was a two for one sale!).
Shredder is just a LITTLE better than splinter, if only because his actor projects a true aura of menace and I feel this version had some influence on the pants crappingly terrifying 2003 version. And the idea of the foot recurting teenagers like I said is a good one: He gives them home and a cause, they give him plausably deniable backup. And his fight with the boys in the climax is really awesome... the conclusion sucks but otherwise h’es okay. Not the deepest villian, but he has enough presence to be enjoyable.
His right hand man Tatsu, whose been adapted ocasionally since this and reimaigned as Natsu in the IDW comics, a female version, is also fine. He’s your standard grimacing goon but has enough presence to work.
So that brings us to the penningtons. Charles, april’s boss at the station and his son Danny who’s joined the foot as he feels his dad dosen’t love him. Charles..is about as interesting and likeable as a dog turd and is the worst aspect of the film. No debate there, he just sucks. He sucks so hard he’s classified as a black hole.  The film wants you to see him as a put upon wokring dad whose frustrated with his son’s increased moodiness, skipping school and crminal undertakings and just wants to help him and loves him deep down. The problem is his actor’s delivery instead of concerned.. is just pissed. He just seems pissy and upset about the whole thing and comes off like he’s only mad about Danny doing this because he’s embarassing him and not because you know, it’s bad. When confronting Danny about stealing, he dosen’t consider MAYBE he’s part of a gang or needs help, but just wonders “Why are you stealing when I give you stuff”. Because, Dipshit, sometimes kids do crimes not because they need the stuff but because they WANT to, and because they want to act the fuck out.
The most he does for the kid is agree to try and get April to back off the police when Cheif Sterns offers to let Danny go and not put him on record in exchange for it. The problem.. is this makes him even MORE unsympathetic. While I do get wanting to help your child, I do and it’s a sucky position... he again should be sympathetic.. but he handles the thing so badly it sucks. He just tells april to ease off, with no reason given, then fires her when she SHOCKINGLY dosen’t give up taking the guy whose refusing to take her hard work seriously or actually solve the crime wave problem to task for his shitty behavior as ANY person facing a shitty, corrput cop would. She just wants to hold him acountable and get him to actually do something. He clearly knows her on a personal level too as he talks about his issues with his son freely with her, something you don’t do with an employee unless their also a friend on some level.
He could have TOLD april what was going on. She’d be furious at Stern’s naked corrpution and prioritizing shutting her up over actually solving crimes.. and thus put at least some of that energy into shutting him down or finding a way around it, going to the papers or something like that. Even in 1990 pre-internet, there were ways to get around Sterns blackmail and expose him so someone who’d actually do the job could get the job. Instead he just comes off as a selfish coward who rather than try and fight the guy blatantly abusing his power and using Charles own son as  barganing chip, goes along with it because it’s the easier option to simply bow to him instead of TRY and stop this. And it’s not like he’s even going after a beloved public figure or someone who could hide behind his rep: Sterns was blatantly failing a crime wave, April had called him out on his failrues and coverups multiple times. The public was against sterns.. finding out he tried to blackmail the media into shutting up about him would PROBABLY end him... I only say probably not because the public wouldn’t skewer him, but because police tend to escape consequences for blatantly murdering someone on a daily basis and Andrew Cumo is STILl mayor over in new york, the same city this movie takes place, 31 years later, depsite EVERYONE asking him to resign over a long history of sexual harassment and a more recent but still horrible history of hiding death numbers. I don’t doubt people being stupid enough to ignore this or the bilaws with cops being stacked enough for him to get away with it, but just because someone gets away with a crime dosen’t mean you shoudln’t try and go after them in the first place. Fuck. Charles. Pennington.
Danny on the other hand is FAR more interesting and I think gets way too much flack when it comes to this subplot. Unlike his dad, whose dead weight, Danny is intresting: He provides a POV character for the foot’s MO in the film of taking in wayward teens, and his character arc is pretty engaging, slowly realizing the foot dosen’t care and that hte turtles are the good guys. HIs actor does a great job and while not the biggest presence, he’s not a bad addition to clan hamaoto and I wish other adaptations would find a way to use him. The pull between doing the right thing and his found family is a good struggle. My only real issue with his plot is the moviies flawed aseop about family. It tries to contrast shredder and his using the kids blatnatly with Splinter and Charles really loving their sons. And it works with Splinter and the kids because despite being a tad strict, Splinter clearly loves his sons and works with them to help them. The problem is ENTIRELY with Charles and Danny. As I said Charles love comes off as transasctional: He either thinks he can buy it or just expects it because he shot a bunch of goop into Danny’s mom after two minutes of disapointment. It dosen’t work with them because neither option is good for Danny. His father is neglectful, chooses throwing his jounralistic integrity out the window over talking to his son or his best friend about another way, and abrasive. Danny is no saint, he does do crimes, but it’s clearly a result of a shitty upbringing and the shredder and co actually offeirng him the love he desperatly craves. Danny goes to the foot because his dad is bad at his job but the film never adresses that and just expects Danny to go back to his dad because the plot says so. Danny would HONESTLY be better off with Splinter. No really. Sure he’d have to live in the sewers.. but he did so for a few weeks in the course of the movie. He’s fine down there. Splitner actually cares about him and took an intrest to him and knows how to raise a child. Let him become the fifth turtle. An aseop about family is not a bad thing: Loaded subject that it can be given how many outright abusive families exist, i’m one of the lucky ones who dosen’t have that issue, family is an important thing and can be a source of comfort and support. But this film tells you you should love and respect someone who does not love, respect or value you because he spent a minute in your mom’s vagina and that’s not how family should work and is outright dangerous to kids in an abusive situation. Love the film otherwise but fuck this aseop skyhigh.
Final thoughts:
Overall though.. the film is bodacious. It’s funny, well paced, has an awesome cast, and outside of a certain bald asswipe... it’s a really good superhero film. Is it the best i’ve seen? Nope. Not even close and character wise most of them are as thin as a wet paper bag covered in ranch dressing. But it’s still a fun as hell with awesome corepgraphy, a killer soundtrack, seriously the soundtrack is damn excellent and only didn’t get it’s own section because I didn’t have enough to say and some of the best effects work i’ve seen in a film in the turtle suits. If you haven’t seen it I urge you to check it out: it’s a breezy 90 minutes, it’s on hbo max and it’s a shell of a time. Will I do the next film?
Tumblr media

warning: fluff and more fluff
a/n: thanks for all the love on this series petals. i appreciate it 💓
Tumblr media
It had been almost eight months since Gray and Y/N made it official. She still couldn’t believe it though, she was finally with the man she’d been in love with since the day she met him almost five years ago. It felt like some dream and she was going to wake up back in her old apartment, but it wasn’t. This was her life now and she couldn't be more thankful. Winnie’s fifth birthday was coming up so she was meeting up with Mahogany, Ethan’s wife, who was going to help her plan the party. Nobody even knew they had feelings for each other, when everyone found out it was quite shocking; specially because Mahogany and Y/N grew up together and they usually told each other everything.
“Ethan, what’s going on?” Y/N raised her eyebrow, she was feeding a very cranky one year old Winifred a bottle as they sat in Ethan’s living room. He seemed nervous and Grayson was curious as to what exactly his older brother had to say. “Yeah, what’s going on E? You’re acting weird.” Grayson took a sip of his coffee, his eyes burning holes into the back of his pacing brother’s head. “She’s not here yet and I don’t wanna tell you unless she’s here.” Ethan spoke, causing both Grayson and Y/N to raise an eyebrow. “What are you babbling about? Who’s coming over, E?” Y/N asked. Ethan stopped pacing when his phone dinged, pulling it out of his pocket a smile formed upon his lips. “Who is he talking too?” Y/N whispered to Grayson, handing over a sleeping Winnie who had finally passed out after being cranky all day. Getting up, Gray went to put his sleeping daughter in the guest bedroom that was made into Winnie’s room. Ethan had it turned into a little nursery when he moved out, literally just next door to Grayson and his niece. Y/N simply stared at Ethan, watching his body language; she knew something was up and she had a hunch that it had something to do with Ethan possibly having a girlfriend.
Grayson soon walked back out and sat next to Y/N, his attention now on his older brother. “Alright, she’s pulling up right now.” Ethan said, his smile beaming. “She?! Wait, do you have a girlfriend?!” Grayson was finally putting two and two together. Man, he was slow but so so cute. Y/N giggled, resting her hand on Gray’s leg as if to tell him to calm down and let his brother explain. “Yes, I have a girlfriend. It’s someone really special to me and I didn’t tell you because I knew you’d tell Y/N.” Ethan spoke, causing Y/N to look at him with squinted eyes. “Excuse me?! What does this have anything to do with me?” She growled a little, a little offended. It was Gray’s turn to rest his hand on her thigh, telling her to calm down and let him explain. A chuckle left Ethan’s lips, he shook his head as he heard his girl walking towards the door. “Because you know this person, you’re actually very close in fact.” His smile only got wider as his beautiful girlfriend walked through the door and both Y/N and Grayson’s mouth fell agape. “Mango?! Are you kidding me?!” Y/N shot up like a poptart and practically tackled the ginger haired girl. “Surprise?” Mahogany giggled, holding her best friend tight.
“Why didn’t you tell me?!” Y/N whined, a little offended her best friend didn’t inform her of her blooming romance with Ethan. “Well honestly, in case things didn’t work out I didn’t want you hating him.” Mahogany told her honestly, Y/N just nodded her head. The girl did have a problem with always hating Mo’s exes because they always did her dirty and she hated seeing her best friend cry. “Okay but Ethan isn’t like your shitty exes. He’s a great guy.” Y/N spoke, causing Ethan’s cheeks to turn a shade of pink. “Awe look, you got him blushing.” Grayson teased, shoving his older brother’s shoulder. “Fuck off!” Ethan glared, the girls just chuckled at them. Linking arms with Mahogany, Y/N made her way into the kitchen leaving the boys in the living room and poured them some ice tea. “Now, tell me everything.”
Cameron was going to watch Winnie while Y/N and Mahogany went out for lunch so they could plan. “You excited to see auntie Cam?” She asked her, brushing her raven haired locks as she sat in between Y/N’s legs. “Yeah! Yeah! Is auntie Mo-Mo coming over to?” She smiled brightly. Y/N seriously thought it was so adorable how she called her that, Mahogany hated it but when Winnie said it, the ginger haired girl couldn’t help but smile. Let’s just say Winifred Dolan was her weakness. “Mhm, her and I are takin’ you to see your auntie.” Y/N said smiling. “Will Nana will be there too?” She asked, her beautiful hazel eyes staring up at Y/N. “Isn’t she always?” She laughed softly before placing the red headband in Winnie’s hair before patting her butt gently once she set her back on the floor. She stood up from the bed, placing the brush back on the toddler’s dresser before following the four year old down the stairs. She soon saw Mahogany walk through the door and Y/N couldn’t help but smile as she saw Winnie run over to her. “Auntie Mo-Mo!” She squealed, jumping into the girl’s arms. “Hey, sweetie pie. How’s my favorite girl doing?” She smiled, tickling Winifred’s tummy which caused her to roar out in giggles. “Gooood! I’m gonna be seeing auntie Cam!” Winnie giggled louder as she started running around the house. Y/N just shook her head before laughing softly, she soon hugged Mahogany and licked her lips once she pulled away as they were dry.
“So, how are things going with E?” Y/N asked her as she slipped on her flats. “Things are going amazing! I still can’t believe we’re even married..” She giggled softly, which only caused her to smile. Y/N loved how much she loved him, it was cute. “I swear I never cried so much at a wedding, you looked so beautiful.” The younger woman laughed softly, smiling at her best friend.  “You had to have Lisa fix your make up, I was laughing.” Mahogany shook her head, letting a small giggle escape her light pink lips.  “Shut up, Mahogany!” She shot her a playful glare.  Picking up her purse, Y/N threw her phone inside before quickly throwing her hair in a messy bun. Collecting all of Winifred’s things, she licked her ruby red lips before smiling as she saw the little four year old run in.  “You ready to go see Auntie Cam?” She asked, crouching down to her level.
All she did was nod her head and giggle loudly. Smiling at her and shaking her head a little, Y/N just picked up the small girl and looked at Mahogany. “You ready, Mango?” She asked, using the nickname she gave her since they were kids. “That freaking nickname, Y/N.” She rolled her eyes, a smile on her face. “What? It fits you, I mean you do have orange hair.” She teased, walking out the door and locking it behind her after making sure she had everything. The girl smiled at Mahogany as she opened the back door of her SUV and she placed Winnie in her car seat before getting into the drivers side, Y/N watched as Mahogany made sure her car was locked before making her way to the passenger side. Once she was buckled in, she pulled out of the driveway and they made their way to Cameron’s. A half hour later, they arrived and she already could see Winnie bouncing in her car seat. That one thing she always loved, everyone always lived so close to each other. Once Grayson and Ethan made it huge, they decided to buy houses for their mom and sister in LA so they could always be close. But of course, they still had their family home back in Jersey that they would always have. Y/N just laughed a little under her breath before getting out, grabbing her bag she opened the back door and unblocked Winnie. Once her little feet hit the sidewalk, she bolted towards the backyard. “Winifred Lisa!” She called out, running after her knowing the pool was uncovered and she didn’t need her falling in and having there be a massive hassle. Y/N rested her hand on her chest relived when she noticed Cameron already had her god daughter in her arms. “Hey, Y/N. Hey, MoMo.” She smiled her beautiful pearly white smile before setting her down once she saw Lisa. “Nana!” She giggled just like Gray and ran into her arms. “Hey, cutie pie! How’s my little Winnie doing?” She asked her, tickling her tummy. “I’m gooood! Can we go pway?” She asked, her beautiful hazel eyes sparkling in the sunlight. “Of course, sweetheart. Head up stairs, I’ll be there in a few minutes okay?” She smiled brightly at the adorable little girl. Running over to Y/N, she hugged her leg before leaning up on her tippy toes. Leaning down, Y/N gently kissed her on the forehead. “Bye, mama!” Within a second, the little girl ran off. “I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that.” She sighed, a happy smile on her face. “Well, get used to it sugar because you’re her mama and eventually you’ll officially be my daughter.” Lisa told her. Y/N’s heart skipped a beat at her words, she couldn’t help but smile widely at the thought of being Gray’s wife.
“We won’t be too long, mom.” Mahogany spoke, smiling at her mother in law. “No, no take your time. Cam and I got this.” Lisa smiled back at her daughter in law. “Yeah, don’t you guys worry.” Cameron shot them an even wider smile before laughing a little as she heard her niece, “Aunt Cammie! Come pway!” Cam just smiled, turning to the two woman in front of her. “That’s my queue. You guys have fun, come on mom. help me entertain our little monster.” With that, Cameron pulled her mom towards the house as a few giggles escaped both Y/N and Mahogany’s lips. “These Dolan’s are clearly something else.” Y/N laughed, shaking her head before walking back to her SUV. An hour later, Mahogany and her were sitting across from each other as they were discussing Winnie’s birthday party. “So, obviously she’s daddy’s little princess so a princess themed party is a must.” She told Mahogany as she took a sip of her martini. “Okay, who’s her favorite Disney princess?” The ginger haired girl asked her, taking a sip of her water. Y/N was a little confused as to why she even got water, usually they order the same thing. “Honestly, she doesn’t really have just one favorite.” She informed her, licking her lips. “Maybe Gray could just get the party to be at Disneyland, I mean what better party for a four year old than a party at Disneyland with all of her favorite princesses?” Mahogany smiled brightly as she looked at her best friend across the table. “That’s a brilliant idea! See, this is why I keep you around Mango!” Y/N joked, taking another sip of her drink. “Gee, thanks Y/N!” She rolled her eyes playfully before giggling. “Now I just gotta ask Gray, but I’m positive he’s going to love the idea and agree because Winnie is his life.“ Y/N giggled, smiling widely as her best friend. "Well duh! I just hope E feels the same way about our little one.." Y/N literally choked on her drink as she heard those words come out of her mouth. Looking at her wide eyed, she just started smiling brightly. "Wait what? You wanna repeat that, MoMo?!” Y/N bit her bottom lip, trying to contain her excitement.
“I said, I hope E feels the same way about our little one. I’m pregnant, Y/N!” She squealed, “I found out this morning. And I was hoping that you and Gray would be his or her god parents?” Mahogany smiled happily and widely at her best friend. Tears of joy welled in Y/N eyes, getting up as she did she wrapped her arms around her best friend and held her tightly. “I would be so honored, but now I know why you didn’t order alcohol.” She giggled before pulling away. “Yeah, I figured you’d catch on which is why I wanted to tell you before you figured it out.” She laughed softly before sitting back down, tucking her long curly locks behind her ear. Y/N just laughed along with her before pulling out her phone, glancing down at it she noticed the time and turned her attention back up to her best friend. “Gray and E should be home soon, why don’t we have a BBQ and invite everyone over so you can tell Ethan the news and also everyone else.” Y/N suggested, a small laugh leaving her lips. “Sounds perfect, Y/N! And you can ask Gray about Winnie’s birthday party. I’m sure he can totally make that happen.” Mahogany said, standing up and grabbing her purse. Pulling out her wallet, Y/N placed a fifty on the table above a twenty. “Yes! Gray is also pretty stubborn so even if he said no, he’d probably end up caving and saying yes because I know all of his weakness.” Y/N just wiggled her eyebrows, giggling. “Alright, you ready to get out of here?” She asked Mahogany, extending her arm for her take. “Let’s!” She smiled her pearly whites at her, before linking arms as they made their way out of the restaurant and back to the house she shared with her amazing boyfriend and their daughter.

Khera and the Liminal Diner
Khera couldn't help but slump as she took her seat in the diner. Once again, rejected, she thought with a sigh. "Orcs don't cry," her family always told her, but after years of failing to find love, she couldn't help but let out a few tears.
As she waited for the waitress to come, she thought about her latest crush and wiped her tears with her handkerchief. "I'm not into tall girls," he had said. Those five simple words had verbally stabbed the 7-foot orc woman through the heart.
At least it was better than other times she was rejected. One elf boy she tried asking out said he wasn't into tusks. Another boy, a merman this time, told her he couldn't stand the color green. Even a human - a human, of all people! - rejected her by saying he didn't want a girl stronger than he.
As she was thinking about these things, the waitress arrived. She was an elderly cat-woman, definitely a tabby judging by the hair, with a name-tag reading "Muse." "Evenin', Khera," she greeted.
"Hey," Khera replied, her face down.
"Aw, why so glum?" Muse asked, placing a hand on her hip and another on the table.
"Ah, nothin', just... guy trouble."
"Aw, I didn't know you had a guy," Muse said, giving a gentle smile.
"That's the problem, I don't."
"Oh, I see, I see. Well, then, ah... what can I get you this evening?"
"Triple burger," Khera said. "With a large Pixie Cola."
"Sure," the old woman replied. "Anything else?"
Khera shook her head.
"I'll bring it right away," Muse replied, leaving the table.
Khera sighed, continuing to think about past rejections. What am I doing wrong? she thought before wiping yet another tear from her eye.
Some time passed before another patron entered the diner, her arrival announced by a bell over the doorway. Khera turned to the door out of curiosity. It was a certain dragon girl wearing a black leather jacket over her red-scaled arms.
"Yo, Khera! Thought I'd find you here," she said.
"Hi, Eza," Khera said, not facing Eza as she sat in the booth across from her, uninvited.
"Got your text. That sucks, man," Eza said, taking her leather jacket off and setting it in her lap. The red scales on her arms and shoulders faintly glimmering in the dim light. "Sounds like a real jackass, too."
Khera nodded, wiping away more tears from her eyes. "I'm... thinkin' 'bout givin' up on findin' a guy."
"What?!" Eza exclaimed. "Nah, c'mon, man! One dumb guy doesn't mean you gotta give up on all of 'em. I've known you for how long? Like, six years? You've always wanted a boyfriend!"
"Yeah, but like-"
"'But' nothin'! It's like my mom always said: If you want love, chase it and never look back!"
"Your mom's in jail."
"Hey, the guy told her he was eighteen!"
"He was an elf, Eza."
"That doesn't- that's not the point!" Eza half-shouted. "Look, the point is, you want a boyfriend, right?"
Silence hung over the two for a brief moment. Khera glanced up at her friend with a smile. "Yeah, I do."
"Then don't give up! The right guy will come to you!"
"But, like... how?" Khera asked.
"Hmm..." Eza stroked her thin with her clawed hand. "How 'bout loitering at a mall or somethin', holdin' a sign that says 'Seeking 18-21 year old girlfriend-free boy' or somethin'-"
"Oh my gosh, Eza," Khera laughed.
Eza laughed with her. "Thank krazk, I got you to laugh."
"Did you just swear in Goblin?" Muse asked with a chuckle, returning to the table with Khera's burger and soda. "So nice to see you, Eza."
Eza laughed heartily. "Been hangin' around Tekkati too long. You know how she slips into her native tongue when she gets pissed."
"Oh, I hear her all the time," Muse laughed in return. "Now, what can I get you, Eza dear?"
"Just a beer is fine," the dragon girl replied, leaning back with her arms outstretched. "Whatever's available."
"That's fine," said Muse, "but you better not drive home on that motorcycle of yours if you do."
"Aw, c'mon, it's just one beer," Eza complained. "Besides, dragons have, like, ten times the alcohol resistance of a human!"
"Isn't it ten times worse?" Khera muttered as she smirked.
"Hush," Eza said, quickly turning her head to Khera and back to Muse. "C'mon, just one beer?"
"Alright, alright," Muse chortled. "I swear, I feel like your mother sometimes, Eza."
"Yeah, you nag just like her!" Eza called as she walked away.
Khera laughed at their exchange, taking a big bite of her meal and a sip of her soda. As she did, another bell rang as a new guest entered the diner: a four-foot tall, curvy goblin girl wearing a pair of black-rimmed glasses.
"Hey, guys!" she said as she approached Khera and Eza's table.
"Yo, Tekk!" Eza greeted as the green-skinned girl leaped into her booth. "How's everyone's favorite shortstack doin'?"
"Oh, I'm doing awesome right now," she said with enthusiasm. "I just bought the place!"
"The restaurant?" Khera asked.
"Krazk yeah!" Tekkati shouted, raising her fists. "The dream's coming true! I'm finally gonna fulfill my lifelong dream of owning a pho shop!"
"...Dude, you first ate pho, like, three years ago," Eza said.
"My life didn't begin until then! Ever since I first came to the human world and ate pho, I've been addicted to the stuff! It's the soup of kings- nay, the soup of gods!"
"Oh, Tekkati! Good to see you, dear," Muse said warmly as she returned to their booth with Eza's beer. "Here you are, Eza dear."
"Hell yeah! Thanks!" Eza said, snatching the bottle and quickly opening it with a draconic thumb.
Muse laughed. "That's hardly the way to speak to an old lady like me," she admonished.
"I've heard you say worse," Tekkati said.
"Oh, that was one time," Muse replied. "So, did you buy the restaurant?"
"Yep! It's gonna be great! I wanna do a lot of the same stuff you do here, like having lots of room for larger liminals like lamias and centaurs, adjustable seats for differently-sized races... y'know, that kind of stuff."
Khera looked around the diner. She had never noticed how spacious it was before. "Oh wow, I never even payed attention to that."
Muse smiled and nodded. "We try to accommodate as many races as possible. We're even going to start using moisturizing seats for mermaids and other semi-aquatic liminals once the shipment comes in."
"Oh man, I gotta do that!" Tekkati said.
"So, do you have a name for it?" Khera asked, hand under her chin.
"Oh, I never told you? I've had it planned for years!" The goblin girl exclaimed. "See, the place is gonna have this biiiig line outside it, since there's gonna be, like, brazillions of people coming, right?"
"That's not a number, but continue," Khera said.
"So, because of that inevitable massive line, I shall dub the restaurant - get ready - the PHO QUEUE!"
The few other diner patrons turned their heads to Khera, eyes wide.
"Hm, well, that... that's, um..." Eza said, scratching the back of her head.
"That's very... unique," Khera said.
"Ah, well, it's..." Muse stuttered. "Um... so Khera! How've you been?"
"Ah, I've been fine," she said. "Still been looking for a boyfriend. Last guy shot me down hard."
"How hard?" Tekkati asked.
"Like... 'doesn't like tall girls' hard," Khera said, leaning back and looking at the ceiling. "And now I'm depressed again."
"Oof," Tekkati said with a wince.
"Like I said: he's a jackass," Eza chimed in.
"Oh, dear," Muse said, pulling up a chair to their booth and taking a seat. "May I ask you something?"
Khera tilted her head. "Um, sure?"
"Why do you want a boyfriend?"
Khera paused for a moment. This wasn't something she really thought about.
"I mean, does she need a reason?" Eza asked. "People wanna be loved, right?"
Tekkati nodded. "Plus, she never had a boyfriend before."
"Don't need to be reminded!" the orc girl said.
"Ack, sorry!" Tekkati squeaked.
Muse nodded. "Yes, it's normal to want love, Khera dear," the old cat-woman said. "There's certainly nothing wrong with it. But if there's one thing to remember, it's that love is not something to be chased."
"Huh? It's... what?" Khera said.
"Love is like happiness. If you chase after it, you'll never have it. It needs to come to you."
"Aw, that's boring!" Eza bemoaned. "C'mon, Muse!"
Muse chuckled. "Perhaps it's a little boring to young girls like you-"
"I'm twenty-nine," Tekkati muttered as Muse continued.
"-But when you're my age, you'll have the benefit of hindsight. I made many mistakes growing up, trying to chase happiness, and coming up empty each time. I used to live on a farm, you know, but one day, when I was twelve, I ran away from home to live in a big city."
"Woah, really?" Khera gasped, her eyes wide.
"Oh, it was quite the adventure. I wanted to be a singer, and I actually became very popular for a while. I made many friends, and quite a lot of money too. I was happy, but pretty soon, I remembered my family. They were definitely worried sick about me, no doubt about it. I tried pushing aside my feelings, but one day... it ended."
"Hm? What did?" Tekkati asked.
"My fame," Muse replied. "It ran out. My 'fifteen minutes,' as humans like to say. I lost all my friends, my home, and eventually all my money, too. So I crawled back home, without a penny to my name..."
"Oh, that's sad," Khera said.
Muse smiled. "Not quite. As I walked home, I started noticing things. Smaller things, like trees, clouds, and rocks. I started seeing them as beautiful things. When I walked all the way to that city, I took the exact same road, but noticed none of them. I didn't take notice of such a beautiful world because I was so focused on finding happiness."
Khera tilted her head again. She nodded before taking a slow sip of her drink.
"And yet," Muse continued, "I found happiness there, real happiness. I began to appreciate the world around me, and there I discovered joy for the first time. Joy isn't found in big things," she said, turning to Eza and Tekkati, "like the thrill of a motorcycle ride, or owning a famous restaurant. It's found in smaller things. Things like a conversation with a friend, or a good bowl of soup."
"So... what should I do?" Khera asked. "Should I just... give up on finding love?"
"You're already loved," Muse said, turning to face the orc girl with a warm smile. "When I finally arrived home from that trip, I was sure my family would hate me for abandoning them. But they didn't. They loved me even more now that I was home. I wanted to be loved by so many people when the only people I needed love from were right there the whole time."
Muse took Khera's hand and gestured towards Eza and Tekkati. "You're already loved," the old cat-woman said. "Loved by so, so many people."
The dragon and goblin girls smiled at their orc friend. She smiled back, tears in her eyes. "Thanks, Muse."
"Anytime, Khera. But just remember," Muse said as she stood up, "I'm not discouraging you from finding a boyfriend. Rather, I want to encourage you to enjoy the smaller things in life. They're sweeter things, anyway. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to continue my job," she said with a grin. "Tekkati, would you like anything, dear?"
"Just a Pixie Cola," the goblin girl replied.
"And, um..." Khera said, "Can I get a refill?"
"Of course," Muse said, leaving to get their request.
Khera looked at her friends. "I... I'm really glad to be your friend," she said, grinning, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Same," Tekkati said, smiling.
"Yeah, definitely," Eza replied. "But don't cry, alright? You're gonna make me cry, dammit!"
The girls laughed, and began to talk about other things as Muse returned with their drinks. As she drank her soda, Khera began to savor it - all of it: the jovial conversation with her closest friends, the sweet taste of the fizzling soda, the soft seats of the diner's booths, even the blue and yellow of the table where they sat. All of it became sweet to her, when she hardly paid mind to it before.
The orc girl couldn't help but smile. She found her joy, with friends she loved, in a diner she adored.

One of the first things that I learned when I picked up all my passes at the Big Bus information office was that the Louvre required a reservation. The museum is always busy so making a reservation online is highly suggested. For general admission or special exhibits check here. Since I had a museum pass I picked a time slot and filled out the forms here. Because I was so tired rather than make my reservation at 9am like I had planned I made it for 9:30am. I didn’t have any difficulty getting the date or time I wanted, which is lucky. I also was in Paris during the off season. I was sent an e-mail with the information for my pass and then I screenshot it so that I could show it to the guards when I arrived. I highly suggest doing this just to make your life easier. You enter via the glass pyramid.
My plan for my second full day in Paris included cramming three museums into one day. So I had a goal of just seeing the highlights in the Louvre. Anything else I managed to see would be a bonus. The main goal was to, of course, find the Mona Lisa.  But first, because I’d gotten such a late start and then felt rushed to be at the Louvre exactly at 9:30 so I wouldn’t miss my spot I hadn’t eaten. So within the Louvre I popped into a cafe right before going through with my museum pass and quickly ate a brioches suisses which was absolutely delightful. Brioches suisses is a french bread (brioche) with chocolate chips and vanilla custard in the middle. There wasn’t any seating within the cafe but there was some seating outside of it under a pillar with tables every couple of feet. So I sat there to eat my breakfast before going through with my museum pass to enter the actual Louvre. I felt the same sort of rush that I felt when trying to get into Harry Potter at USJ the first time.
While some highlights are included on the map so you can easily make a goal of what to see, others are not. On my way to find the Mona Lisa I ran into a couple famous statues.
First was the Venus de Milo or Aphrodite from 100 BC which is located in the Sully wing on the ground floor in the Parthenon room (room 346).
Then in one of the stair cases on my way to the Mona Lisa I found the Winged Victory of Samothrace which is thought to be from 190 BC and is located in the Denon Wing on the ground floor in the staircase (room 703).
If you’re lost and looking for it just ask because the “gallery” it’s in is the Winged Victory of Samothrace stairwell.
Mona Lisa is an Italian painting also known as Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo by Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was located in the Denon wing on the first floor in the Mona Lisa Room (room 711) Please note that sometimes it moves.
You don’t get much time with the Mona Lisa. It’s probably one of the most popular paintings in the Louvre, let alone maybe THE most popular part of the Louvre in general. To deal with crowds they’ve created a line with two entrances, you can either go up to the left or you can go up to the right and then security will give you a couple minutes to take a few photos before sending you on your way. While the rest of the Louvre is set up so you can sit and take in the paintings and sculptures due to the large amount of people who want to see Mona Lisa it is not possible. In the grand scheme of things when I visited it probably wasn’t that busy. The line didn’t spill out past at least half way through the winding ropes they’d made for the queue.
The Louvre actually doesn’t insure the Mona Lisa. And no one knows how much it’s worth. It’s one of the world’s most famous paintings and instead the Louvre puts it’s money towards protection for it. The Mona Lisa has been stolen, someone’s tried to graffiti it and someone else has tried to throw a rock at it. Security seems to be a better idea then insuring it anyway.
Because I was in the area, an area of vast paintings I decided to stop and taken in July 28. Liberty Leading the People a painting I remember seeing often in my high school French classes.  the painting is by Eugène Delacroix and is located in the department of paintings near Mona Lisa. No matter how many times I saw it in my French book or online I never realized just how massive of a painting it was.
After checking out a couple other giant paintings in the area I stopped at the in-Louvre cafe for a special Louvre tea called thé du Louvre Côté Cour: Courtyard tea. The little pouch the tea came in was quite pretty and the area around The Café Mollien was beautiful.
If you’re there I highly suggest trying to get a window seat. They’re the most popular and even though the cafe wasn’t busy all of those seats were taken when I visited. They have a stunning view and during the summer the terrace is open so you can enjoy your drink or snacks outside while enjoying the view of Cour Napoléon and the garden.
After a nice tea break I went off in search of more art. My main goals were to see The Coronation of Napoleon , Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss, and The Lamassu.
The Coronation of Napoleon, also known as The Coronation of the Emperor Napoleon I and the Crowning of the Empress Joséphine in Notre-Dame Cathedral on December 2, 1804 was quite easy to find. It was painted by Jacques-Louis David and is located in the Denon Wing on the first floor in Daru, room 702.
The painting was mentioned on the tour of Versailles, about how the painting was requested done by Napoleon with some subtle changes. Some things including his mother who refused to attend being painted in the background. It shows Napoleon crowning his wife as Empress after being crowned himself.
The Lamassu was also quite easy to find though a bit further away. They’re located in the Richelieu wing on the ground floor in the Mesopotamia, Assyria Khorsabad section in room 229.
The Lamassu  are protective genies that guard entrances in Dur Sharrukin which is now in modern day Khorsabad, northern Iraq. These creatures are part man, part bird and part bull and known as shedu or lamassu.
Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss  however I had an awful time trying to find. The reason why is because the museum is broken up into three main wings. The Richelieu, Sully, and Denon. I had gone down to the ground floor on the Richelieu side and thought I was crossing through Sully and into Denon, but in reality what I was doing was walking in circles around a statue courtyard in the 200’s rooms of the Richelieu. It took me awhile to figure it out. Too long. Embarrassingly too long. I didn’t realize the grey space in the center of Richelieu map was a courtyard. I thought it was the main one with the pyramid. And I couldn’t figure out how to cross over. It was very frustrating. I’ve circled on the map of the ground floor below the area in which I kept walking in circles.
Eventually I asked security for directions and they told me I had to leave and re-enter. Apparently you can do that, at least twice. So I popped out, went back into the main lobby, scanned for the Denon wing and went back in.
I think in other areas and on other floors it’s easy to travel between the three wings, but for some reason when I got down to the ground floor I had an awful time of it. But I did eventually find Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss which is located in the Denon wing on the ground floor in the Michelangelo gallery in room 403.
I saw a lot of other really cool things as I rushed around. I’ll make sure to list the wing, level, and room number for each of them if you click on the image or below it.
Daphnis et Chloé by François Gérard Denon Wing 1st floor Mollien room 700
I think the Louvre is massive. The way you’re suppose to enjoy art is to sit with it and take it in, but I think because of the Louvre if there’s a lot you want to see in a short period of time it makes it difficult. I think because I was also trying to run around on my Museum pass before it expired I felt extra pressure to rush, which isn’t the way you’re suppose to enjoy a museum let alone art. If you have more time I think it’ll be better.
My favorite part of the museum was really seeing other people enjoying it. The amount of artists I saw camped out in the Louvre sketching the sculptures just instilled something warm and fuzzy in me. I wanted to grab a notebook and join them, like I did in my high school art trips. But I just felt like there was no time.
Crown of Louis XV: Denon wing, 1st floor Galerie d’Apollon Room 705
The Louvre is open from Wednesday through Monday. They are closed on Tuesdays, January 1st, May 1st and December 25th. On Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays they are open from 9am until 6pm. On Wednesdays and Fridays they are open from 9am until 9:45pm. Double check online that they are open and their hours before you go. When I went the strikes were happening so they warned that some rooms/galleries might be closed and that the museum might close early. It’s considered fastest to book your tickets online ahead of time and to arrive in the morning.
Hercules, Dejanira and the Centaur Nessus Richelieu wing 1st floor Rotonde Jean Boulogne Room 526
Grand sphinx Sully wing Lower ground floor Crypt of the Sphinx Room 338
The Athena of Velletri
Attached to the Louvre is also a mall like area called Carrousel du Louvre. There’s a food court here with a McDonalds and various other restaurants as well as shopping. I grabbed a late lunch here, debating between different things because all I needed/wanted to do was find a corner to sit in and charge my wifi buddy because it had died suddenly. (The fuse at my hotel had blown for all my outlets so nothing had charged, I didn’t realize it until that night) I wandered around the food court trying to decide what I should get. I felt like I had to get French food, even though there were other options and it had a long line. The McDonalds had more available seating and less of a wait and while McDonalds tends to be better in any country outside of the U.S. it felt like a bad choice for my limited amount of time in France. I hadn’t even scratched the surface of my dream food list.
quiche lorraine set 13.60 euro
So I got in line, looked at what they had and ordered a quiche lorraine. It came with a salad that I didn’t particularly want but couldn’t turn down because it was a set. It only came with one type of dressing, an oil and balsamic dressing that needed to be shaken up. They took it off the bar and popped my quiche back into an oven to reheat. During my trip I had two quiche lorraines, both had to be reheated and came inexplicably with a side salad with the same oil and balsamic dressing. This was the better of the two.
The Carrousel du Louvre is open Wednesday through Monday from 10am until 8pm. On Tuesdays they are open from 11am until 7pm.
“Artemis with a Doe” Sully wing Ground floor Salle des Caryatides Room 348
Hercules Wrestling Achelous Room 105, Richelieu wing

Short stories of working at Jo-Ann’s.
• I’m a crafter, and I’m not 100% familiar with all of our fabrics and sewing items. Which by proxy means I don’t know how to sew in any way except for how to make a pillowcase like I learned in 8th grade. I had a lady come in and I’m back up register so I’m available to help so I offered help when she said she had a question. She proceeded to badger me on how to make a dress. I told her I’m not familiar with how, but one of my managers (who does drag and makes BEAUTIFUL dresses) is. “I saw him earlier but I don’t know if he’s still here. You make go back to the cutting counter to see or ask.” She’s huffy I won’t follow her (I’m clearly doing an important project). She comes back to ask when he works next. I saw I don’t know, I don’t know his schedule. She turns red and leaves.
• Around the start of Black Friday sales ( the first time around, I just made it one year) I was put to train on the cut counter. I’ve done a couple simple cuts before to help out. But I was only trained for less than an hour before I was needed at the register. SM scheduled me for counter my next shift and I was immediately overwhelmed by the line, what people wanted cut, I literally didn’t know what I was doing, it was just me and one other person who was already cutting so she couldn’t teach me, no one could, and I was eventually sent to the back to take care of my first massive panic attack in years. I’m still a little traumatized and have refused to cut since.
• Our store doesn’t sell sewing machines. Instead we have an independent stored that rents floor space from us to sell sewing machines and their other various items. They close at 6, it is 6:10, they are gone, and a lady comes to the register with three of their items and one of ours. Here’s how the conversation went:
ME: Sorry ma’am, I can’t sell you these three items. They are not ours.
LADY: What do you mean? They’re in your store and I need them.
ME: They belong to the independent store in the carpeted area. Their barcodes are made clearly different, and we cannot sell them. You can come back tomorrow to get them. They unfortunately closed at 6.
LADY: You don’t understand, I need them for a project I have to finish tonight. Can I just give you money in and envelope to leave for them.
ME: Logically and morally I cannot do that, ma’am. It would be categorized as stealing as I can’t sell another store’s items.
LADY: You know what? I’ll find someone else to help me.
She proceeds to take all items. Throws the one that was ours onto a random shelf as I watched. Screaming that it was terrible customer service for not doing what she asked. (And as I learned after she left) Yelled at my manager for saying the exact same thing I did, angry that she too wouldn’t steal from another store for her. Then power walked out in a huff. That same manager asked me if she bought anything else, worried she’d leave a stupid survey that would hurt our scores. I simply said no she only wanted those.
• All the customers that complain that our fabrics is a mess and our store is a “mess” are the same ones doing it because we all watched them.
• Bless the few mothers that actually control their kids, instead of letting them run around the store using anything and everything as a toy. Such as the family that let their kids break a big glass vase and proceeded to tell no one. But said “oh at that was us” when a manager found them still looking in that area.
• I had a woman tell me that all of our gift cards were disgusting and that she was super mad that we didn’t have birthday themed ones, nor did we have envelopes for them.
• Customers that say “Oh it was this way not too long ago” and roll their eyes when I say “oh well it’s been like this since before I started working here over year ago and when I shopped here before then”
• “The packaging is a little damaged, can I get a discount?
• All of the empty packaging hidden and plainly visible we see all over the store. Clearance, regular, and sometimes empty bolts stuffed into fabric clearance.
• (I was here this day but I know the story) One day, receiving a large truck load, there was a woman looking for an item that wasn’t on the shelf. She then took it upon herself to go into our freight room to look through boxes and totes for her item. One of the managers eventually yelled at her, threw the tote the lady was looking in at that moment out the door, and slammed it shut when she had followed it.
• One lady was looking for an extremely large sized pillow. And was mad that I told her we don’t carry it instead of looking for it. (I was the only one on register are pillows are in the back.) She said she would call back later to ask again. She never did.
• One much older gentleman (who seemed to have a ferret up his but the moment he came into the store) was first angry that he had to take a number to ask for help because it was busy at the counter. It was empty at the register I really don’t know why he didn’t ask me. He refused to have our female manager help him. He turned the male manager, who was cutting for someone else, to ask him for a pattern for a robe. He was told where and how to find them, as my managers were too busy to leave the counter. The gentleman proceeds to just come up to the register. At the same time counter person came back from lunch. MM ran to help me at the register since there was now a rush. The gentleman comes to me and asks if I’m the manager. I say “no it’s the gentleman next m-”. MM interrupting “yes me and the woman in the back.” The gentleman decided to ignore my manager and complain to me like I’m the manager and can do anything about it. Then asks if I can help him find the pattern. I tell him the exact same thing and apologized that I could not leave as we don’t have the people to cover the line. He turns around, fuming, but following my directions. We get through the line and I’m sent to lunch just as the gentleman comes back and he stares at me as I come out from behind the counter, turning as I went around him. “I’m terribly sorry sir but I have to go lunch now as we behind”. His response was to huff and slam the pattern book he had on the register counter my manager was at. Yelling at him to find it. He did, the gentleman then left.
• One time I was trying to get to the register to help out. But I was stuck behind a gaggle of later 20-early 30s women moving two steps at time, blocking the whole walkway between the aisle. They scoffed at me as I said “pardon me” and squeezed between them.
• Hearing “do you work here?” ten times a day, wearing the bright green apron, having all the gear, and doing my job.
• “I found this on your website, why can’t I find it here?!” Clearly says online only or not available in my store.
• Over Christmas a lady tried to return a Christmas light necklace without a receipt, that was clearly different in design and packaging of what we had on display right next to us, claiming she bought it last week. No you didn’t honey.
• We’re still working on a mega huge yarn reset, and there is nothing but complaints about the boxes in the aisles when they should know by now that we obviously don’t have a back room based on the up stock shelves and that we don’t have enough people because they definitely would’ve been working on getting the yarn out.
There’s more than just customer stories though.
• we had 8 stackout fixtures, they took away four, ands expect us to have 20 set
Be creative!
•magazines were moved to right in front of registers, dropping magazine sales, queue item sales, and causing traffic jams when we busy and people are shopping the magazines.
Be creative!
• we are literally drowning in clearance, we have to have it throughout the store including on queue panels, even though they started wanted us to set 11 queue panels months ago with us only really having 10
Be creative!
• they sent over 50 planograms to be done in one week and as I far as I’ve heard that was legit and not an accident which is ridiculous. Being as hours has been cut so much there had only been one or two people able to work in planograms in general
Be creative!
• sending a million sequin ty animals of all sizes to be set in a tiny display and a million boxes of each type of seasonal candy and only giving tiny sections put it. Such as the Easter candy stackout that had three different peeps in one two foot basket and sending five boxes of each one
Be creative!
I don’t understand how much more creative we can get when it feels like our store is getting smaller and smaller as fixtures are taken away or filled and boxes of overstock just keep coming. I love my job, it’s just extremely frustrating how the uppers and customers are treating us.

Back on Love (Relentless pt.2) - Vince Kovac x Reader (Tangle)
Tumblr media
The Honey
Author’s Note: I’m back on Vince Kovac TBH he never left, he’s just been kicking around. He knows when I need him, and gosh, do I sometimes need him. ANYWAYS. You’ve been waiting on part 2. So here we go! Disclaimer: I own no characters from Tangle, nor any plot lines / lyrics not mine.  Premise: The only way to keep Vince Kovac is to keep him guessing, and that’s exactly what you aim to do... But there’s shots coming at you from all sides, and if you want this one to last, you might just have to give in... Words: 4202 Warnings: Swearing / more sexual banter
________ I am so confused, I don't know what's up or down Should I leave or stick around? Am I lost or am I found? He's throwin' wisdom like a poet, Throwin' tantrums like a child But when he holds my hand, My pulse runs red and wild I was a fighter for my freedom, Now a fool for his touch He is a nightcap, a brunch buzz... Next to the nightstand I'm taking every pill he's got My head, my heart, my throat, my lungs, My stomach all in a knot I swore off suitors and the never-ending, needless drug I learned my lesson and I thought, "Yeah, I've had enough" But I'm back on love Back on love ...I'm a loser for this man I've been lost since our first date He is a tight-rope talker, I can't balance at all He says it's fascinating watching me tip-toe and crawl... My best friend made a list of ways his love is off-track But I don't give a shit, and I refuse to call that bitch back He might be messin' in New York He might be messin' with my head But I'll do anything to keep him messin' in my bed
---
And so the work on your house continued. Only Vince seemed much more intent on simply checking you out rather than continuing anything verbally suggestive. And you would watch him too. Any conversation was kept professional and for once he didn’t hover, or tell you anything was wrong with your design. But it was bothering you... What had you said or done wrong? Heck, you missed his constant banter, it made work worth going to. On the eve of completion, Vince stood against the same door frame he always had, to watch you. You were packing everything away, looking at least a little forlorn. “You know, if you wanna change your mind this is the last evening...” you slung your bag over your shoulder. He raised an eyebrow; “Who said I’d changed my mind?” “Well. If you wanna have a celebratory one-night stand... which, is how I thought this was all going.” You stopped at the look on his face “... Why do you want a relationship out of me?” “Who said I did!?” He folded his arms “You didn’t have to. If you wanted to f**k me Vince, you would have done it that evening - or you’d still be shamelessly flirting with me every day.” “Problem is I’m too curious.” “About what?” “You...” He stepped forward; “The way you come off in your professionalism, versus the woman you might very well be underneath but wouldn’t let on to. See I want her... but I also want you. And I figure even a good amount of casual f***ing wouldn’t get me both.” You tipped your head “No. You have to earn me.” “Exactly. And I figure I’d been going the wrong way about it.” Folding your arms you weren’t exactly sure where this was heading; “... Why are you still here?” “Because I want... this...” Vince pointed from your feet and drew a line up to your face “...hanging out with me at the weekend, shotgun in my car, working on her drawings when I get home, coming home late from all her big meetings and just chilling with me and a glass of wine. But I also want whoever you are hiding under that - that you keep giving me flashes off - in my bed every night, and in the back of my truck on occasion. Y’know?” You couldn’t resist the chuckle; “That was endearing for half a second there...” “No but, do you understand... if this remains professional I will never truly know you and if all I get is to f**k you, then it’s just as bad. And when you meet someone else, and move on and settle down then what am I?” You let the pause hang for him to answer, “No one. F**king no one.” Literally and figuratively you’ll reckoned. Though with a face and attitude like his, you weren’t sure it’d take him long to get over it. “...But why are you here, now?” There was a silent oh! Before he smiled, “To ask you on a date... Saturday?” You were shocked, and for a minute you stepped back “You’re... serious!?” “Yeah!” “A date? Vince Kovac...?!” “Yeah. I’m open to what - but lunch or dinner is cool with me and if you don’t want candle lit, we can do this as casual as you like...” Vince gave a shrug “I know some good places - not near Kew mind! We’ll take you somewhere else...” He scratched his head awkwardly, and bit his lip; “...I just, think I wanna get to know ya...” *** You accepted his offer, not even pretending to do it begrudgingly, and you went out on Saturday for lunch to a cafe. You weren’t about to fall into this, and you were still weary of his attitude. But you were just as interested in him as he was you. Sure, he wanted to go on dates with you; but what was he doing when he wasn’t here? Was he simply taking his one night stands elsewhere until he got you in bed? And then what about when he managed that - would a taste be all he needed before he did move on to other things? You really wanted to be sure of this before he so much as got to kiss you again. And yet, part of you craved an ending to that evening... But his date suggestions were never bad, and it was him chasing you. Sitting at work drafting houses for others was extremely fun when every so often your phone would alert you to yet another text from Vince. And you wouldn’t even have to look at it; just smirk. Because you knew. Who else was going to text you? Most of your friends were here - or simply wouldn’t have the gall to bother you at work. And they would always read similar: I can’t stop thinking about you... Can we go out again this weekend? When are you gonna let me take you to dinner? To which you would often respond with - Shouldn’t you be working!? ;) Weeks passed and Manuel noticed something was up. But never directly addressed it - until one day he swung by your desk with a massive smirk on his face. “What?” You looked up from your computer. He leant on his hand, still smirking; “What!?” “I just ran into Vince Kovac in town.” “Oh yeah?” “Yeah. Was telling me all about this architect he’s seeing. Says it’s going pretty well... forgot to mention a name but from what he’s saying...” You tipped back on your chair, daring him to say it. “It’s you isn’t it.” “I’m sure he bigged it up.” “Ffffff... unbelievable! Vince Kovac?! I thought you had taste!” You threw your pencil at him, to which he laughed “You coulda given me any card. Any card - there’s a reason you gave me his, and you know it.” “He’s your type.” “Oh, divorcee and known cheater - my type? Thanks!” “Well it’s clearly NOT stopping you!” You bit you lip and conceded that point; “I like him, yes.” “Is it serious?” “He wants it to be...” you shrugged “with his stats I’m being careful.” “Vince the kinda man you can be careful with?” “Meaning?” “Well, off to the next one...” Your phone pinged as if on queue, and you grinned “ He’s the one chasing me, Manuel...” you picked it up. “Vince Kovac with a girl like you... I believe that’s what we would call a travesty...” he shook his head “Alas I must call myself responsible!” “You must...!” You smiled back “Guess I should be weary he’s telling everyone!” “Not your name though..! For which I would be grateful! Or the press will get hold of it.” “Thanks!” You responded dryly, then tapped away a text to Vince expressing your horror at the new found information. Shit! You work with him?! Yeah, how do you think I got YOUR card!? I’ve been on projects with Manuel for ages-! Damn! Look I’m not telling everyone! I should hope not! If you wanna see me again! Aw c’mon, you’re not serious! Just to make him squirm in his head a little you left him on read, and looked back to Manuel who was waiting patiently for you to finish. “He does know who you are, doesn’t he?” You scoffed “I doubt it!” “Why cuz then he really would be telling everyone?” Manuel nudged your arm “Vince Kovac just got to build a house for a big shot architect - how many awards have you won??! How many times have you been featured in something-!? That blue in your hair is literally your signature! You gotta let Kovac Construction brag about that somewhere...!!!” “And they can, eventually! Just not yet! It’s better he doesn’t know!” Suddenly your mobile was buzzing; “See! Now he’s calling me!” *** Truth was you realised just how hard you were falling for him and that you couldn’t stop yourself. So you let him take you to dinner, and fell as deep as you possibly could into this crush while he sat across from you in his best attempt to dress up, and waxed lyrical about anything and everything he could put his mind to. You just liked hearing him talk, it didn’t exactly matter to you what the words were. But he listened too, because he wanted to know more about you - and he’d said such when he’d asked you out in the first place, so you figured you might as well let him. But you liked the way he would smile – and when Vince asked questions he didn’t keep them on the surface; yet at much as he wanted to dig into your life, not one of them was disrespectful and if you happened not to want to answer him, he didn’t push the issue… And so your relationship became that little bit more real, and before you knew it he was staying over for much longer than just one night... But you were still holding back, and you knew it was driving him crazy. “Good things come to those who wait, you know that right?” Though sometimes you doubted Vince Kovac had waited for anything he wanted in his life. “But great things happen really fast also!” He grabbed you by the waist and hoisted you up, walking towards your bedroom - you were giggling; “Oh no! Not to this girl!” “Nonsense!” “Vin! You can drag me back – it ain’t happening!” *** Your decision to discuss Vince with your friends was a bad move. You thought perhaps detailing nearly every little thing would help you figure it out... or... help them to help you. Apparently not. Instead you got a long string of complaints - that usually began with a sigh and the word “Men!!!” Some were a little more understanding, and would nod and listen before giving their two cents. But, others just wanted to lay into him for all they were worth. And that included your best friend… which was a little more awkward, so say the least. Because she was the one you wanted on side most. “Sounds like you should shift him before it gets to late!” “What-!? Why?!” “Isn’t it obvious-!? It doesn’t sound like he wants a real relationship, Y/N, just that he gets off on cheap thrills!!” “The guy practically lives with me - you’d think if he was like that he’d have given up. Surely they want it to be easy??” “Thrill of the chase, probably.” Well that wasn’t exactly the most helpful thing you’d ever been told. “So the answer is dump him?” “Before he uses you and you get hurt!!” “What if he’s not using me...” “You wanted advice-!” “Yeah, But I think asking me to get rid of him is a little extreme-!!” She huffed, folding her arms and looking you dead in the eye; “Is it, though?” When you couldn’t hold her eyes, with a sigh of your own she decided to be a little more brutal; “That man wants one thing and once you give him it, gurl, he will drop you and go f**k something else. He sounds God awful - give him the boot.” You shook your head. “Why do you want my advice if you’re not gonna listen!? Are you really gonna stay with this guy-!?” “I don’t know! Maybe I just want to prove you all wrong—!!! Maybe I just wanna prove myself wrong!!” “Babe…” She lent forward in her chair and took your hands in hers; “I don’t want you to get hurt. I’m just looking out for you... you do know that, at least?” “I do. But I don’t know what to do!” *** Today as he walked around getting ready and you sat up in bed, arms huddled around your knees – he decided that whining was his last-ditch option. Is it ever gonna happen-!? Like seriously what do I have to do?! You wanted to be careful about this, because whilst you didn’t want to lose him, not now, he still didn’t know who you really were. And you couldn’t give yourself to him when he didn’t. It wasn’t fair on either of you. Vince Kovac had to know you… and evidently that time was now. You took a breath, like delivering an ultimatum. “You don’t get to sleep with me until you google me...” He stopped wander and turned back to you with a raised an eyebrow; “What?” “You seriously mean you haven’t??” You ran a hand through your hair - Vince was up early to jog before work, and he was meant to be on the site just as early today. It wasn’t like to hadn’t chucked his name into a search engine to look at his company. You would have done it before you met him, if you’d have thought about doing so before you were half way out the door. “No, why would I...?” You shook your head at him, you were surprised, because he seemed like the type... but now he was curious. And he picked up his phone. You held your hands out; “Woah-! No! Do it when you’re at work or something!” not in front of me, anyway! He laughed “if I do it now, I can sleep with you now.” “Before work? Huh?” You raised an eyebrow in near enough disgust at his suggestion, “Can skip the run and just burn calories here...” Vince smirked, making you throw a pillow at him, “Shut up! Check it at work, after your run...!” “Why?!” “Not in front of me!!” He placed it down and leant across the bed; “Why should I do what you say?” You couldn’t help yourself, and grinned as you pulled him to your lips, “…You do  pretty good job of it so far…” ***  Vince did wait, because hell, he’d already waited this long. What was another work shift… Typing your name in he wondered exactly what he was expected to find. Then stopped dead and almost dropped his coffee. The first was a website - your name - extremely professional. Too professional. And the Instagram and Twitter to go with it. Both with the blue check mark. And then; F/N L/N to join ATD conference as key note speaker “ATD-!?” He clicked it “Holy shit!” That was a US based conference. And apparently you were going to be flying out to be a key note speaker along with two people he’d actually heard of. International superstars… Who the hell were you-!? He skipped back, and it was news story after news story about projects you working on, accolades you’d won and interviews you’d given. “She’s not just any f**kin’ architect, is she...?” He took a deep breath and exhaled. Damn, Kovac, you’ve really done it... When he got home you were sitting preparing for a client meeting tomorrow. It was drawn up, you just had to make sure to condense your proposal presentation. He trudged into the room slowly, and you looked up expectantly. “Just... who are you?” He got a little closer “You’re not... just an architect... are you?! Heck - you’ve worked with people that people not even in industry have heard of-! Y/N...! Just--!!” He laughed a little nervously “How out of my league am I here?!” You scoffed at that notion “YOU-!? Out of your league-!? Sorry, Vince Kovac, but no!” “But, I-! You’re making headlines around the world-!! Forget just Australia and I... I’m... I’m doing okay in Melbourne sometimes, I guess.” He ran his hands through his hair “You even have a signature that means people can tell when a building was drawn and then realised by you - there’s a whole damn article I read about that... and let me tell ya something, those buildings are gorgeous.” You leant on your hands with a smirk “Baby... you just built my design. You just built a house for me. And what’s more, you can now say that with context. How many people get to say that that ‘do alright in Melbourne sometimes they guess’!?” But you blushed a little “Thank you... though. I worked hard, but, part of me thinks I was just fortunate...” He sat opposite you, looking like that was the last word he would use; “You created a movie theatre that looks like a film reel.” “Oh-! In my home town?! Yeah that was my first one!” You beamed “it’s been a good while since then.” “That’s genius.” “It was stupid. And I tested a lot of limits, and many more nerves!” You grinned “That’s all we wanna do - bend physics to our will and defy gravity.” You pointed to him, “You’re the level headed ones that keep us firmly on the ground - preferably with cement.” You shrugged “But like I said before - you realise our vision too. And sometimes better than we could ever hope to draw it.” He leant on his hand and stared at you for a minute “…Your height and your hair… That’s the other one.” “Oh, tabloid headlines about the miniature blue-haired architect who likes doing weird things with glass and metal?” You’d read enough of your own with great dramatic effect to friends of yours. “…What’s the dream, Y/N… Surely you’ve… what are you doing in Melbourne?!” “…Well I preferred Sydney, but my company moved me down here… As for why I’m with a company, because I assume that’s the next question, I’m not quite Frank Gehry just yet… I like it in Australia… it’s home…” He took another breath; “Why me.” “Why not you?” You folded your arms and leant over your drawing; “…Who should I be dating? Who better than someone who owns a construction company – I already said you’re meant to keep my feet on the ground – you understand my industry, and you’re from home. Believe me – whoever you think is in my league, I’ve been there and done that, and honey… none of them are you.” You tipped your head, because his expression was still nearly unfathomable, “So… What are you thinking?” Vince sat back for a moment, and mulled it over in his mind, before his blue eyes came back to yours; “…Like I haven’t earned you…” and then quieter “…I’m not the kind of man who deserves this yet.” *** There was some kind of weird element to your relationship for a few days after that. And Vince continued to be a little awestruck, even if he pretended it didn’t phase him. You didn’t really mind too much, but it was a little strange to think his attitude would change just because he knew who you were. Maybe he felt like now he had to prove to you he was worth it; but then why just because you were a little more well known than you’d ever let on did that instantly mean you should demand respect. Vince should be displaying that outlook no matter who you were... That didn’t mean it wasn’t sweet to have him act like this with you. And suddenly everything was a little more delicate and he toned down his more vulgar forms of flirting. Which was funny because you basically just toned them up, and that seemed to confuse him that little bit more - but had him smirking at every sentence you would say. And you knew that secretly, though he might not say tt at the moment, he was loving every single second. This playful tone you were running with let him know that you trusted him enough now - that whatever he wanted to do to you you’d most certainly let him do. But he still gave you that I gotta earn you look.  This morning when his alarm went off he wound his arms around you; “Come running with me...” “No...! It’s too early...” You groaned, you weren’t due into work until after 10, and you were expecting a lie in… apparently no such luck. You knew Vince wasn’t about to leave you alone. “Come running with me...” His voice was more persistent as he kissed your shoulders, your neck, along your collar bone and when you giggled and tried to hide your face in your pillow he kissed that too; “Vin! No!!” “C’mon...” you weren’t deterring him from his trail of kisses; “I thought you liked running before work...” “On my own terms...” you peaked at your own clock “Not at this ungodly hour..!” “Y/N...” he kissed you again, sighing your name in a way that made your skin prickle. Oh. You felt him grin; “C’mon...” the run of his hands was dangerous and you caught them in yours “...you can’t tell me you don’t wanna...” “This early..?” You grumbled; face still in your pillow “Mmm...” he pulled his body warmth from yours, which made you groan again in discontent as he pulled you up. Why is he such a morning person on the days I don’t wanna be-!? “Vin....” You whined, as he placed his hands either side of you this time kissing you into silence “Come on. What are you afraid of? You won’t beat me?” “I believe the word partner doesn’t mean it’s a race!” “Dunno. It’s kinda a race...” You smacked his arm and allowed him to drag you the rest of the way out of bed; “See!” He coaxed half in mocking “Then you can be back in bed before you know it... orrrr...” he smirked “you could come shower with me.” “F**k off!” You stretched, with a yawn, “...I’ll be way too awake to fall back to sleep and you’re for sure earning the shower thing-! You WISH that thought would cross my mind.” “Though it clearly does...” he smirked again, but then sighed; “And I know… I’m well aware now of exactly who I’m earning…” You scoffed and proceeded to push past him to get ready, “Feisty this mornin’ are we-!?” “Blame yourself-!! You woke me up!”   As he predicted, you were running circles around him by the time you were half a mile up the road... you ran ahead and then tracked back, looped around him - ran off again and did the same.“Vinnnn—!” elongated pause “Hurry uuuupppp—!!” Vince sighed, frustrated “This isn’t exactly partnering with me now, is it!!” He heard you laugh but you didn’t respond until you wheeled back; “I told you before, you gotta keep pace with me babe.” “Definitely did not think that conversation was really about running!” “And maybe it wasn’t!” You gave a wink, “Are you asking me to slow down-!?” “Yeah then I can actually, y’know - talk to ya!” That made you laugh again - and you sprinted another tight loop before slowing down to match his pace and rhythm. “Better.” There was a slight growl of approval to his voice that made you raise an eyebrow,  “Geez, how do you run this slow.” “F**k off!” Again your laughter filled the quiet morning air; “I’m kidding this is like a good distance pace, babe, I like it! I got no problems!” “Oh yeah-! Sure you don’t!” You laughed again, nudging his shoulder playfully with your own – as you made sure to keep within brushing distance of him. “Not with your running anyhow.” “Oh, for F-” *** Given to who you were, sometimes you had days where clients would contact you from your website – rather than going through the company – and wanted to talk with you about drawing houses, or offices, or the like… These calls had a habit of being at odd times, with you in Australia and them /almost anywhere else/ in the world. And that left you always looking for something to do on the days they rolled around. And huffing to yourself about why they couldn’t be Australian millionaires; because if it all went smoothly, you supposed you’d likely have to travel to their country of origin. Today was such a day, and you weren’t about to sit around at home all day waiting… So you drove yourself into Melbourne.  “Excuse me… Are you… Y/N...?” you were in town, doing some shopping of your own when you heard your name. It was said almost a little uncertainly; the type of thing you were used to hearing from a fan. A student who was about to tell you that some of your impossible architecture was inspiring their final project... Or anyone who was just a fan of your work. Calm and timid and looking to do anything but inconvenience you. You glanced over your shoulder towards the origin of the voice and froze. Hoping that panic didn’t simultaneously cross your face. Not a student, probably also not here to talk to you about your architecture either - you would highly doubt it. You’d seen pictures, Vince wasn’t attempting to keep his life hidden from you - if he was going to make this work he probably wanted you to meet his kids... But, this was something a little bit different even than that. You turned to her and swallowed hard - unsure of what the correct thing to say even was. But you knew her name well enough... “Ally…” ---

Hyena parrot sandpaper sounding man.
long story. tl;dr at the end.
I used to work in a shop. Where any Important person came into the building you are supposed to announce it.
The thing about our shop is that we had sooo much foot traffic we only announced our big boss. When it happened everyone in the building stands up at attention till you hear the words “At ease,”
He would be the equivalent of someone who is head of a department, like let’s say shipping in Amazon.
I worked nights, and it’s relatively quiet. My friend loved to make an effort to entertain himself by fake announcing our boss entering the building. I never ever took what he said for granted. I would always stood at attention.
He would come in every time and laugh like crazy. His laugh was piecing, like a loud dying hyena who had a pet parrot who would repeat the noise only louder. When his laugh died down he sounded like sandpaper to wood.
This went on for about 2 months. I put up with it everyday. Every time I would just give him the sarcastic “Oh man your so good, you got me!”
He was a big fan of also talking trash one of his favorite one liners between his hyena parrot sandpaper laugh was “You think I would actually announce that fool?” More ear bleeding laughter.
Now I wasn’t a real fan of our boss not many were, but it was just how strict he was. He demanded the best from us. Honestly that’s a good trait to have.
I respected our boss, and didn’t enjoy listening to hyena parrot boy trash talk the boss.
One day after he comes in, and of course he fake announces the boss. I stand up as usual. I see him walking into the office. For some reason his laugh was even worse today. Perhaps I didn’t sleep well or I woke up wrong. I have no idea what.
I had enough of his crap. “STFU your damn shit laugh and the way you talk like you have 6 dicks in your mouth. Shut the hell up damnit!”
He is taken back by this. He thinks, and says “Yo man I’m just joking with your ass. Bitch can’t take a joke.” Queue sandpaper cackle.
My blood is on fire right now, but I look at him with a straight face. “Yea you know what brooootttthhheeerrr I cant I’ll work on it.”
He gives me a suspicious look and walks into a different room. I decided then and there that I would do exactly to him what he is doing to me. Even mimic his laugh as well.
Next day I initiate. He stands up at attention I walk into the office and laugh so sarcastically I sound like a hyena with constipation. My face is beat read my eyes poped out as I stare right into his eyes.
His starts to get furious. “OHHH you thinking your a F-ing funny man huh? Is that supposed to be my laugh? Your Shit joke ain’t funny boy. You’s just a lill bitch.”
All I say is “Right.” I walk into my office, get on the computer and check my email. My direct boss sent me an email telling me to make sure my shift is squared away as the big boss is coming by next week for “Morale checks”.
I still don’t know why they called it that, but that’s what they say. My face turned into a wide smile the grinch would be jealous at the grin I had. I’m going to do this every day more than once if I can up to next week.
I become ruthless one day I think I did it five times more absurd than the last. It only took him 3 days before he stopped even standing up. Then came the massive insults. Real, real bad insults.
I can’t even repeat them. Basically the more I did it the more racist slurs he would throw around to me and towards the boss. Day before the big event.
I initiate the joke, he flys off the handle he doesn’t even give me time to walk in. He runs towards me and just starts to shout in my face. Spit flying left and right. I thought it was raining. After he is done ranting. All I say is “Ok I’ll stop.”
“ That’s right you lill bitch you might be in charge of this shift but I own this building. No N-word messes with me.”
All I could think is damn American History X over here. At this point my excitement for what’s about to happen is almost over flowing. I’m so excited I’m afraid I’m going to blow my cover.
Mind you I didn’t say a word to him about our boss coming in, and no one else on shift was willing to talk to him the last few weeks, because he is loosing his shit.
The day has comes. It’s night Im checking the window every 5 minutes for the boss arrival. Finally he shows up.
I look at Mr Hyena and tell him to get the phones I need to go outside. He scoffs his way to the desk and I start to walk away. “I’m not going to fall for your (input real messed up phrase).”
I go outside and greet our boss. I tell him it’s good to see him, and he shakes my hand. I walk into the building and make the announcement. Before the boss can say anything.
All you can hear is loud banging sound things being thrown and a ton of yelling. “You think I’m going to fall for that OP?? I’m not dumb it’s clear you were going to do some stupid BS like that. You think that lazy N-word Boss is going to ever come here.”
I should mention that our boss is African American. He came from the Ivory Coast to the USA , when he was 2 years old.
I look at my boss face, and it had the composure I have never seen before. He clears his throat and yells. “AT EASE.”
The building fall silent so quiet the dead themselves could be heard. Boss walks to the counter. The look on Hyenas face. Was worth more than than all the gold in the world. I felt like I had been starving for a month and the grandest meal was just placed in front of me.
Boss “Hello hyena how are you tonight?”
Hyena “g..go..good sir how are you.”
Boss “I’m well thanks a little tired but well.”
Hyena “Sir I’m sooo sorry I thought...”
Boss “I’m here to see how moral is going nothing more. By the looks of it it’s bad. What can I do to help?”
Unless things are real bad in your shop. One of the basic unspoken rules is,you don’t say a word to the big boss about anything. You deal with it at the lowest level possible.
OP “Sir we are ok here no problems we can’t deal with at our level.”
Boss”I see.... well if you do have anything I can fix let me know.” He walks around the building talking to the few others on shift.
He comes back to the counter. “Hyena can I talk to you in this officer over here please?”
They walk into the office and are in there for over 6 hours. Just before shift ends. The boss leaves, and Hyenas face looked drained.
He told me that no matter how many times he tried to apologize to the Boss he would get interrupted. Telling Hyena that he isn’t allowed to talk.
Boss spent 6 hours telling him different stories of African Americans who struggled to find a better life.
I don’t know many people who could have held their military bearing as well as the boss did, but it was impressive and inspiring.
The next night at work Hyena was not there. My direct boss said Hyena was moved to days no information given.
Fast forward about a month latter hyena went from E-3 to E-2 and lost his pay for 2 months. Latter dishonorably discharged, for being caught with weed and spice. The two punishments were not related.
tl:dr Friend becomes annoying and causes problems on shift. Gets caught by the boss only to be forced to listen to his stories for 6 hours. Gets demoted and eventually dishonorably discharged.
Incase you don’t know spice is artificial weed.
After that incident my shift ran perfect for a month and a half after that. The story on how all that crumbled will be my next story for you all.

Entry #01: New Bark & Beyond.
God it really has been a week since I started this blog and I still haven’t updated it? Gotta stop being useless and post more regularly. I’ve made decent headway into the game so I have several posts I need to make about it. So let’s get started. I’ll save y’all from a long summary of the game events and stick with just mentioning important game-play stuff and how Lyra reacts to them.
First up: Elm’s request.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This whole little introductory quest that Elm sends her on is actually kinda meaningful to her perception of herself as a trainer. In blog cannon, Lyra immediately goes to collect her starter from Elm after having a massive argument with her Mum about leaving home, which ended with her Mum basically pushing her out of the door and telling her she wouldn’t care if she came back. She would. She didn’t mean it, she was just lashing out. But Lyra didn’t know that and she ran most of the way to the lab choking back tears.
So she takes a deep breath, calms herself down and as soon as she’s in the lab, Elm’s asking her to act as a representative of the lab and complete an important task for them. At this point, Lyra’s already been helping out around the lab for some time so this isn’t entirely out of the ordinary. But being asked to take care of a “real” “discovery” one of Elm’s peers has made whilst she’s still highly fraught from a fight but is pretending that she’s totally fine? This is the basis of the person she becomes. Someone who thinks of herself as a highly important “chosen person” who cannot express her real emotions or else she’ll won’t be taken seriously or allowed to follow her goals. Because something tells me Elm wouldn’t be too comfy sending a crying eleven year old off into the wild world of Pokemon after a big fight with her parents.
Next up: Lyra’s starter.
   Meet Cabbage!
Tumblr media
She’s an extremely sheltered Chikorita who honestly never thought she was actually going to end up travelling with a trainer. Surely she was just going to spend the rest of her life in the lab with the Professor? Lyra decided otherwise, and decided primarily because she was the only girl of the three Pokemon Elm was raising. Lyra was anticipating getting some flack for being a young girl on a Pokemon journey so she kinda projected some of this onto Cabbage. Moron boy trainers would probably turn their nose up a cute, female Pokemon so she should had to take Cabbage with her so she wouldn’t feel like she was anyone’s last choice.
Cabbage would have been okay with that but unfortunately can’t tell Lyra how she feels. She’s just gotta learn to embrace all the terrifying Pokemon battles Lyra puts her through. Which happens surprisingly quickly; Lyra’s an impatient girl but she always gives her Pokemon the time they need to adjust. Speaking of adjust:
Tumblr media
Cabbage is legitimately confused and slightly irritated about her nickname. It’s the first of many little annoyances that eventually lead to her becoming stubborn and standoffish towards Lyra as she grows more confident.
Next: Mr. Pokemon & Professor Oak.
In terms of character development, this whole scenario kinda bolsters Lyra’s ego even more. But I want to single it out because it’s the start of one of her three major plot threads:
Tumblr media
This fckin’ egg. This egg is important and eventually hatches into one of Lyra’s core team members. This egg is also lowkey a symbol of everything early journey Lyra thinks about herself. She’s so unique and powerful and special, Elm can see she’s naturally good with Pokemon so he chose her to go on this dangerous quest to collect a mysterious egg! And better yet, during this quest the esteemed Professor Oak, advisory to the legendary Red, asks her if she can help him out with something too!
Tumblr media
He gives her a high-tech Pokedex, an item so exclusive that only a handful of trainers own one? Wow she must be the best trainer out there, she’s only just got her first Pokemon and everyone’s falling over themselves to get her to do trainer stuff for them. Clearly she’s hyper naturally talented and all the smart Pokemon experts know it! She’s a dumbass child. I love her.
Anyway, why’s the egg important you ask? Oh—
Tumblr media
—no reason.
And finally: Silver.
Did you know: Lyra absolutely hates Silver’s guts pretty much until she sees he also hates Team Rocket? Because he kinda epitomises the older boys who would belittle her for being a girl who wanted to be a trainer?
Tumblr media
It’s pretty clear to Lyra that Silver kinda knows some shit about Pokemon training because she hears him muttering shit about Elm’s lab being “famous”. Bitch, the only people that Elm’s famous to are fringe nutcase trainers who breed for something they call IVs because he’s basically lord high king of egg knowledge or whatever. That makes it doubly annoying when Silver tries to kick her when she asks if he’s getting a Pokemon there too and twice as satisfying when she knocks him over with a retaliation kick and stamps off righteously. She’s especially glad that she chose Cabbage at this point; just thinking of what he might say about her makes Lyra fume.
More evidence that Silver is a bog-standard shitface sexist kid:
Tumblr media
Whilst Silver would say this sort of crap to anyone, this hits a little too close to home for Lyra and she takes it as a misogynistic insult. Generally implying that she’s somehow not worthy of becoming a trainer is a surefire way to make Lyra go feral because she kinda thinks it’s the only thing she’s good at. And it’s just not true, look at what level Cabbage is at this point:
Tumblr media
Three levels above where she started and only around 3-4 hours have passed since they first met. Lyra is insanely good at training Pokemon. She has great intuition when it comes to assessing individual Pokemon’s strengths and weaknesses and encourages them to fight in whatever way suits them best. She doesn’t always have great long-term strategy in battle, but she knows exactly what her Pokemon can and cannot take and dish out and this is what secures her most of her victories.
Also Silver’s “someone weak” comment  is 100% self-projection, just so we’re clear.
Tumblr media
lyra vc: lmao yeah i am???
Tumblr media
   lyra vc: lmao no!!!
Tumblr media
Queue Lyra getting Actually Mad™ because there is no way a dick like Silver could become a better trainer than her?? She’s gonna be the greatest, just you wait and see Tampon!!
Tumblr media
If you don’t think she was holding it in the air just out of his reach then you have fundamentally underestimated how much of a petty little shit my Lyra is.
Regardless, Lyra then runs back to the lab to see exactly why Elm called her in such a panic.
In conclusion: All cops are bad.
A kind of recurring theme in Lyra’s story is her distrust of traditional authority figures, and it all starts here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, so obviously this exchange is so cartoonishly stupid that I cannot see it going down like this in blog cannon. But the cop that does come to investigate the lab in blog canon is pretty much as incompetent as this guy. Stealing a Pokemon is kind of not a big deal in Johto? Shit happens all the time, the cops are corrupt as fuck and they don’t care about doing their job. It’s the reason Rocket was able to regroup in Johto without anyone really making any attempt to stop them.
So this guy is mad that he’s been taken really far out of his way to investigate some minor crime in a tiny town and now some brat kid is going on about how some other kid was rude to her? Yeah, he’s not happy and totally belittles her, calling her “girlie” and scoffing at the idea of her and her wimpy looking Pokemon could have defeated a criminal. It’s not until Lyra insists that it was the red haired boy Elm mentioned to the guy she battled that he starts listening to her, and even then he’s still extremely brusque with her. And Lyra cannot stand being talked down to so this drives her round the bend.
A lot of terrifying things happen to Lyra during her journey, enough that she could easily qualify for police protection, but she never once asks for it throughout her journey. Because whenever she imagines walking into a police station, she imagines a bunch of wrinkly, balding, middle-aged men who will belittle and insult her the same way this cop did. And she’s not going to willingly suffer through that again.

Japan 2017 Day 8
September 17, 2017 Nagashima Spa Land Nagashima Photos
Tumblr media
Sunday was planned as our last non—Tokyo day.  Our Japan Rail pass was done after that day, but again we wake up to rain.  We talked and talked and decided to take the hour and a half transit trip to Nagashima and hope for the best.  We had to take 2 trains and a bus to get to the park.  You can see Nagashima Spa Land from a distance.  It's often considered the Cedar Point of Japan, and really, that fits well as a comparison.  On a peninsula.  You go over a causeway to get to it.  You can see the massive rides in the distance.
Nagashima was very much a Cedar Point feeling park. Clean, large midways. Large coasters, new and old.  Modern and classic flat rides. Water park. Hotel.  Big ole’ Ferris Wheel (which just happen to be everywhere in Japan). We got there and honestly, it was mostly a worst case scenario. The rain subsided, but it was supposed to come back with a vengeance for the day. We didn’t want to pay $50 to go in and not ride anything, but there is a cheaper entrance fee and you can buy tickets.  Isaac and I discussed it, asked if Steel Dragon would be open (it wasn’t running), was told it was unlikely, and at the time, the only coaster that was running was Arashi, the new for 2017 S&S 4D Freespin.  Then, as we were talking to the gentleman at guest services, Acrobat, the parks newer B&M flying coaster, a clone of Manta in the U.S. opened.
I wasn’t happy, because this was the only chance I’d get at the park on this visit without spending way over budget to come back, and I wasn’t willing to do that.  So we eventually decided to try to make the best of it, go in, and maybe get some credits and enjoy what we could of the park.  Again, I wasn’t happy, but there’s nothing you can do when the island is getting hit by a typhoon.  I wish I had planned for the water park, because it was open and not busy, but I thought it would be closed this time of year, as most waterparks in the country are.
Once we got into the park, we walked around and I took a few pics, though I wasn’t in the mood to take many.  The rain wasn’t falling, but it was misting.  Our first stop was to get tickets at a ticket machine and then Arashi, which was a walk on.  This would be my first one of these, even though there are several in the states.  I love 4D coasters, but my last ride on Green Lantern at SFMM wasn’t great.  How would the S&S version compare?
Tumblr media
Arashi-We got on and I have to say I loved the restraints.  I wish a park would order a more traditional 4D with these restraints.  You go up the vertical lift and the first drop gets ‘help’ to make your seat flip in the form of a copper fin passing thru a magnet.  It was great!  I was really kind of frightened, as you get major spinning on this ride.  It was disorienting, had airtime, and parts feel like you’re flying, just before you flip upside down.  The track drops out from under you, and on every dive, you flip even more before dropping into the brake run.  I loved it.
Everything in the park is well taken care of and most of the park looks freshly painted.  A few years ago, they expanded the park into a new plot of land, moved their old Arrow Corkscrew closer to Steel Dragon (and put a kids area on the Corkscrew’s old spot), moved their Ultra Twister into the new section, along with a slide ride, and then recently built a really nice looking Manta clone called Acrobat.  It was open, so we headed there next.  The line wasn’t long, and the station seemed huge.  I should have taken more photos, but I was still fighting my bad mood.  Pretty soon we were getting on the ride.
Acrobat-I’ve yet to ride Manta, but Acrobat was really well done.  There’s the drop, then pretzel loop, but the rest of the ride is mostly turning, inline twists, and swoops, and it was fun.  It evens borrowed Manta’s water effect, which was nice.  Lots of fun, better than the Superman clones, but I like Tatsu and Flying Dino better.
Tumblr media
One nice thing about the park is that they were announcing when a new ride was open, which we figured out after hearing an announcement about Ultra Twister and then seeing it run, to which we hurriedly got tickets and walked over to ride.  I’ve always wanted to do one, and there are still a few in Japan, so this was my chance.
Ultra Twister-The vertical lift is kind of overdone now, but these started the trend.  The first vertical drop was really good, and the hill after had nice airtime.  Then you do a heart line roll, which is weird within the cage structure of the coaster, before hitting the brakes on the drop track, then dropping backwards, another heart line, a rampy drop, and then another heart line roll before heading to the station.  It was fun, and looks really good with its current paint job.  I enjoyed it.
After we got off we walked back over to Steel Dragon, which had people in the station working, but the line was not opened yet.  Another ride opening made me hopeful that since the rain was holding off we might have a good day.  So a few minutes later as we were hanging around Steel Dragon to see if anyone was doing anything (We were told at the gate that it had been prepped to run before the rain, and there was a train in the station), I saw White Cyclone start to cycle so I ran and got Isaac, who had tried to see how many people were in the station, and what was going on, and we went over.  White Cyclone has a bad reputation, though it looks amazing.  We headed thru the queue, waited for a few cycles, and then got on near the back.
White Cyclone-This ride looks beautiful, and is quite large, which oft leads to comparisons to the former Mean Streak at Cedar Point.  Many people think it’s rough.  Many others boring.  Honestly, I went in planning to get the credit and be done with it, but surprisingly, I liked it.  The first drop and hill were good.  We had airtime on it, and though it was a little janky at the bottoms of the larger drops, it wasn’t terrible and I thought it was a fun ride.  There are two helices which add to the fun, and the ending has several hills.  I don’t know if it just ran well because of the rain and cooler weather, but I thought it was highly underrated as a coaster, and a lot of fun.
Tumblr media
At this point, one side of the mouse was running (It was dead, so no need to run both sides), the gigantic Viking ship was running, the Giant Frisbee was running, most of the flat rides, the mine coaster, and then eventually Steel Dragon, so we decided to pay the difference and get an all day ride pass to just ride everything open.
After getting our wrist band, we headed to Steel Dragon, which was a 30 minute wait.  First off, the music in the line is really obnoxious and annoying and I’ve spent over a week trying to forget it to no avail.  But this was THE ride I came for, and now here I was, in line, ready to ride!
I was just getting into coasters in 2000.  I was already a fan, but had just discovered online coaster communities, so the four biggest rides being built that year were Goliath at SFMM, which would open early in the year and be the tallest/fastest traditional lift coaster in the world until a few months later, when Cedar Point was debuting Millennium Force.  I thought it was kinda boring looking.  No loops, nothing.  And Kings Island was building the tallest, fastest, only looping wooden coaster!  Millennium Force opened and was the tallest/fastest traditional lift coaster in the world, for a few months until Steel Dragon 2000 opened.  And though it’s still the longest coaster in the world, Steel Dragon is no longer the tallest traditional lift in the world (That just happens to be not too awful far from my house in Fury 325).  But I’ve now ridden all 4 of those major coasters from 2000 multiple times (and said goodbye to Son of Beast).
Steel Dragon 2000-The ride is impressive looking. You get into the custom built B&M trains, the second set of trains the ride has had.  I thought the lift would seem longer, as it’s not steep, has 2 chains on the lift, and is over 2 minutes long, but once we were off, we were near the top pretty quickly.  That first drop is amazing.  There's some rattling at the bottoms of the drops, but it wasn’t terrible.  The B&M trains are very open.  Then you got up and get decent floaty air on the next hill.  Then you go up and top down into a lateral filled twisted section of track that you speed thru at the end turn around.  The ride is basically the length of the entire park.  Then you head back to the station on a series of hills and tunnels, all giving decent floater airtime.  I liked the ride a lot.  It was better than Steel Force, but rides like Phantom, Lightning Run, and Steel Eel show that Morgan can give better airtime.  But this ride is fun and still very impressive.
Tumblr media
We headed toward’s the park’s other entrance and then noticed they had started running the Shuttle Loop, and I love a good Schwarzkopf, so that's what we hit up next.
Shuttle Loop-With so few of these left, I’m glad this one opened and I didn’t have to miss it like Jet Star, which never opened.  We sat in the back of this flywheel launched model and of course it was great.  Nice launch, then the loop, spike, stall, backwards loop, backwards spike, stalls, and you’re done.  A dying breed, but still so much fun.
Japan is known for their meandering Jet Coasters, which seem to be everywhere.  I didn’t actually ride more than one on this trip, and it was at Nagashima.
Jet Coaster-This was similar in some ways to Cedar Point’s mine train.  There was some airtime, and a stretch of straight track over the water.  It was really a lot of fun, and there was even some airtime.  Plus, another credit.
Tumblr media
The mouse had been running, so we Got a quick ride on it now that we had wrist bands.  It’s 2 standard portable mice, mirrored beside each other.  Mice scare me, but I loved them, and it was another credit.  Time was getting short and we wanted to do a few more things.  The rain had held off and it ended up being a really great day.  Overcast, but comfortable, with most rides operating.  Next up was Corkscrew.  This is a corkscrew clone, just like many before it, with a drop, turn, 2 inversions, and you’re done.  And it’s still in the traditional blue/white color scheme.  Just like the Myrtle Beach Pavilion’s and many others, it was a nice shot of nostalgia.
There was a walk through haunted attraction by corkscrew, so we did that next before heading over to the Ferris Wheel, which gave great views of the park and the surrounding bay. I had wanted to ride the Giant Frisbee (They have a regular and giant version), but we didn’t have time.  There is, however, a flat ride at the park I was not going to miss.  The world’s tallest (double) swinging ship ride, Viking.  They had to wait for enough people, but it was really a lot of fun.  It doesn’t swing as high as traditional swinging ships, but it’s fun.  I thought it funny they have the  Giant double swinging ships, a Galleon swinging ship, and an Intamin looping starship.  This park has several similar rides.
We hit up White Cyclone again for another good ride, and then I rode Arashi by myself (Isaac wasn’t ready for more).  We were going to ride Steel Dragon one more time, but there were people in line with terribly strong perfume that were over by Cyclone, so we went and did another ride first.  The park has a flat where you stand in little ‘Jet ski’ type vehicles, and it’s in water, and it’s basically a water whip where you can use the rudder to swing out.  We rode it and it was great!  I wish more parks had these!
Tumblr media
Finally we got one more ride on Steel Dragon to end the evening before heading back to the station.  I had wanted to go back over by Acrobat and take some more photos, but we were directed away from the Acrobat plaza under Steel Dragon, towards our exit.  We headed to the exit and purchased tickets for a bus back to the station.  We really were fortunate that we were able to ride as much as we did.  There were a lot of plans that changed towards the second week to accommodate weather, travel, etc.  But we got a full day at Nagashima Spa Land, and it was worth it.
After getting to the station we were hungry, so we ate a quick bite at McDonalds and had a teriyaki burger on our way back up to Yokohama, just outside of Tokyo, where we would be based out of for the rest of the trip.  It had been a long week, and I was tired, so the Shinkansen back was a nice break.  We arrived Tsurumi station, walked to our hotel, which was fairly close, and checked in later Sunday evening.

Living My Best Atiny Life At Ateez's Global Fansign in NY | K-Music Mondays | Bubbleteajuseyo
안녕하세요 여러분! (*^▽^)/
Tumblr media
How have you all been?
I want to say I'm sorry again for my past hiatuses and just not being consistent with uploading before (both videos and blog posts). I will for sure be more active on here (and eventually my channel, but that’s a discussion for another day).
And this post in particular, is long overdue and involves my weekend at KCon NY this past summer.
KCon NY this year was....STRESSFUL AF! Part of me deep down had a feeling everything wasn't going to go well.
Why?
Because leading up to it all, so much was happening. And by that, so much good news and amazing opportunities were coming my way that I felt like the universe was going to be like "LOL, life is going too well right now, lets see how we can mess it up a bit."
*Side note: I don't care, call me crazy all you want. However, realizing now that Mercury was in retrograde, it all makes sense why it seemed like such a chaotic mess the entire weekend.*
From early check-in to literally that Sunday night on my train ride home, nothing went how I had hoped/planned. And not going to lie, for all this stress, I might as well go to KCON LA next summer or KCON Japan.
And on top of that, I haven't been feeling well the past several weeks (mentally, emotionally, and physically) and it's just been an unpleasant roller coaster ride. So there's that.
KCON NY 2019
Like I said, so many good things were happening weeks prior. From finding out so much good news that week to just feeling so great about myself.
But it was literally the morning of early check in, everything just started to take a turn for the worst.
From missing my train to early check-in being a mess, trying to trade my hi touch with someone in the heat and pretty much wasting my time; my weekend was starting off chaotic.
Then the first day of KCON wasn't any better. It felt even more hot and disgustingly humid than the day before, which made me grateful the convention was inside this year. But walking from Penn Station to Javits was not a good time.
I got completely lost in Javits trying to find the line to wait to go into the convention once it opened up.
Then, I decided to be boo boo the fool and go to starbucks inside Javits to drink that dumb b*tch juice. And to my surprise the queue line wrapped around into a huge crowd of people trying to figure out where the line formed/ended.
WE LOVE THAT.
Oh, and to top it off, in the middle of all that mess and ending up being stuck in the queue line, it was 11:30AM and I had to be at the Kakao Friends booth to claim my giveaway ticket for the show that night by 12PM.
I was so stressed and about to have a breakdown in the middle of the line.
Luckily, Kakao Friends was very understanding while I was dm-ing them the entire time. And to my surprise, I actually made it to the booth with about 5 minutes to spare.
As soon as I got my ticket, I did some mini exploring of the convention and found the merch table.  Before I knew it, it was time for my Ateez audience engagement.
At that moment I could not believe they were right in front of me and then I was reminded that the next day I had the global fansign event.
My friend even kept reminding me I was going to be sitting face-to-face with them the following day and part of me wanted to throw up. It was slowly sinking in, but not fully.
My friend and I actually left the fan engagement when they did hi-touch to see more of the convention. We came across a couple of Youtube creators along the way, attempted to win her a free ticket to the concert that night, and much more.
I will say, just like last year, I wish I did even more with the convention. Especially panels.
However, like last year, the schedule for KCON was just a lot.
There were some booths I was not able to attend and the line to get food was always way too long. I missed a few of the stages at the convention and some panels, which sort of sucked.
But, what can you do? It is what it is, I guess.
What was even more upsetting, just like last year, Kung Fu Tea ran out of boba in the middle of the convention. Truly devastating. 💔
Besides all of that it wasn't that bad. Still a sh*t show, but fun nonetheless. If I get the chance next year to go to KCON, I took notes again as to what I will do differently. Even then, I plan to experience KCON LA or Japan instead.
Now, if we fast forward to the concert, I am still shook.
I want to take the time to thank Kakao Friends again because if it wasn't for them, I would not have had the opportunity to attend the show. I will forever be grateful because I had such a good seat!
All of the performances did incredible, and of course, Ateez snatched my soul.
Their 'Sicko Mode' stage was *chef's kiss* remarkable. I do wish they did ‘Pirate King’ since I probably don't know if I will ever see that or their 'Pick It Up' performance live. Regardless they put on an amazing show.
*Side note: I know they did ‘Pick It Up’ and ‘Pirate King’ during Klub Kcon, but unfortunately I couldn’t attend that either. Big sad. ㅠㅠ*
I enjoyed the other performances like The Boyz, Iz*One, Nu'Est and TxT.
And let me say Iz*One is so pretty. I am still heartbroken that Everglow couldn't make it because I know their stage would have been incredible. However, Iz*One had a breathtaking stage and killed it.
With having time to fill, all of the artists did their best to fill in for Everglow's time slots and I couldn't be more proud. It was still a fun time and made up for the crappy events that happened during the day.
Now, let’s move on and discuss the following day and the best day.

Before going to the fansign, I had to run some errands basically at Javits Center before heading to the venue to line up. Such as giving my friend her tickets to the concert that night and selling my SF9 hi-touch since it was pretty much at the time of the fansign.
I took an Uber from Javits to the theatre because it was too hot to walk and I still don’t know how to take the subway in NY. Also, was trying to not get sweaty and gross in the subway, or while walking either.
Upon arrival, I have to say, I was anxious as hell walking up to the line to wait. I wouldn’t say I felt out of place, but I was scared to try and make other Atiny friends. Which, I had nothing to be concerned about because the Atiny I met that day were so welcoming and that in itself was just so comforting.
And right now I just want to take the time to give some shoutouts to my favorite Atiny.
I mentioned Whitnee and Deni I believe in a previous twitter thread or so, and they are literally sweet angels and I couldn’t be more grateful to have had the chance to meet them at the fansign. Whitnee was the first Atiny I spoke to as we waited in line for check-in, while Deni saved my life, so these two deserve the entire world and to live their best Atiny lives always and forever. So, a massive shout out to the two of them for being the first Atiny’s I encountered in real life. I adore you both and hope we can reunite soon!
And although I didn’t meet any of them at the fansign (which hoping to change all of that in the future), a massive shout out to the Hagtiny group chat. I love you hags with my whole heart and hope you live your best Atiny lives as well.
One more shout out to Aleah since I went up randomly to her and her friends and was like, “Anyone want a free Ateez album?” And since I had an extra one and we exchanged twitters, we literally have been friends since and met up again at the Mingi cafe event.
Oh, and thank you all for putting up with my soft hours on twitter and in text message.
There’s for sure more people on this shout out list, but I’m going to mention them in the another post. Otherwise, we may be here for a bit longer and I know you all want me to get back to discussing the fansign.
Now, where were we?
Oh, so after we all checked in and picked numbers, we found our seats. This is when emotions slowly creep up on you. As everyone gets settled and once they go over the rules and stuff for the event, suddenly the boys come out and pick their seating order.
Now, this is where it actually sinks in as they stand on stage in front of you in a small theatre. Then you remember that you will soon be sitting face to face with each member, one by one.
I drew number 98, so I was in the last row of the theatre and luckily it was elevated so I was able to still see everything. However, it was kind of a sucked. When you’re that far back waiting for your turn, your nerves just build up more and more.
So, not only were my nerves getting the best of me, my head was hurting, I was nauseous, and exhausted. But this was because I was also running off of little to no sleep, and didn’t eat all day. Therefore, I owe Deni my entire soul and one of my kidneys. She saved me by giving me a bite of the granola bar she was eating and water so I can take advil for my headache and to just have something in my stomach to hold me over. She also comforted me while we waited. Not only did Deni prevent me from dying, we actually spoke the entire time. Had like 800 trips to the bathroom and played games in the back row, such as: how many members can we get to ‘hit the woah’ with us.
I blew a kiss to Hongjoong then he blew one back and then mimicked me freaking out and losing my sh*t. And this was when there was one to two rows ahead before it became our turn.
So, being in the last row honestly wasn’t that much of a bummer. It was actually a lot of fun. So I’d rather be in the back for a fansign again.
Finally, the time comes. Our row gets called up. I’m lowkey worried I’ll collapse or something while going up and down the stairs. The staff checks our post-it questions and then we wait until it’s our turn to sit down.
Once it was my turn to sit down, I almost lost it. My biggest fear was them having San start the line. And what do you know, Wooyoung (he chose the seat order) did me dirty.
The order was: San, Wooyoung, Seonghwa, Yunho, Mingi, Hongjoong, Yeosang, Jongho.
Then again, regardless of the order, I would have died internally anyway. BUT, Choi San just-
Let me take another moment to express how Choi San literally ruins me and is at the top of my bias wrecking list. That smile. Oh my, that smile. That is what gets me everytime and for him to start the line and smiling the way he does, I was done.
So, I sat down with San and just when I thought I would lose it because of that smile...I actually felt comforted? Like the nerves started to die down a bit. Same goes for Wooyoung, which him and Jongho intimidated me at first.
I mean I’m still intimidated by Jongho, but I’ll talk about that another time. And as for Wooyoung, I have the biggest soft spot for him.
But as I moved from each member, the nerves just kept decreasing and it turned into pure comfort and happiness.
In this twitter thread I describe in detail my experience with each member, along with a clip I found from another Atiny’s video of me interacting with Mingi. I hope you all enjoy reading the thread.
Speaking of which, here is another shout out to JaNey because I was looking to see if anyone recorded the entire fansign and came across her channel to discover she basically did. And when I say I was so happy, I cried.
The one thing I really regret from the fansign, was not bringing my DSLR nor having the courage to ask someone to record me.
And now, here is a really soft and emotional moment. With those being on my list of things I wish I did and didn’t do, comes this one thought (or many thoughts).
I am super grateful for this experience. Beyond grateful, actually. I almost didn’t even try for this fansign because I honestly thought I would not have gotten in. I’m glad I took the chance.
However, the more I think about it, that may have been my only chance. Again, I’m super grateful for the opportunity, since I know there are some who still haven’t gotten to experience meeting them. But, when the chance comes and goes, you can’t help but think what if you never get to do it again? Then you really start to miss them. It’s a very complicated feeling to explain right now.
Maybe that’s me being a little selfish, but there is so much I wish I could have said or done, that I didn’t get to say or do.
That’s why it sort of hurts when I see some people I'm mutuals with getting attacked for attending multiple events like fansigns. Because if I could, I would do the same. And I also think they may feel the same way, not knowing when it will be their last time meeting them.
Therefore, I live vicariously through them. And I hope every Atiny gets to have that moment. I’m hoping that maybe I’ll get more chances in the future, but I could only be so lucky. So, I won’t get my hopes up too much. Like I said though, I’m super grateful that my first fansign experience in general was with Ateez.
I don’t even know where to begin with how happy these boys make me, it’s been a long time since a group has had me feeling like this. Maybe I’ll do a massive blog post explaining this.
Leave a reply to this blog post telling me how happy Ateez makes you.
Overall, my weekend for KCON was definitely one of the many highlights of my year. Despite coming across a lot of bumps in the road, I appreciate the fact that I was allowed to have such a remarkable and memorable time. The highlight, of course, being the fansign.
Not only did I get to meet the 8 boys who have had a huge impact on my life, but I have developed some heartwarming friendships since then.
Ateez & Atiny make one team. 💖

Warnings: Possible swearing, and violence. Smut will be in the part. Possibly worse. You have been warned.
Master list  Part One  Part Three
Gasping you awoke in the middle of a hospital bed, perhaps it was all a dream, maybe you would turn and see Angela standing there ready to explain how they came and found you. But when you turned to your side it wasn't Angela you saw, it was him. He definitely was attractive even though his entire body was covered. It was strange you had just met the guy but you felt like you had known him for so much longer and you automatically felt so comfortable and safe around him. "Ugh remind me not to drink so much." You joked which earned you a deep chuckle from the man, barely loud enough for you to hear. "So um, uh. What happens now, like I'm pretty sure I've been in there for a hella long time. Is um Overwatch like still a thing or like?" "You have missed a lot. It would just be easier if Sombra explained." He told you and on queue, Sombra skipped into the room. "Good to see your still alive." She sang before sitting on the edge of the bed. She pulled up a small timeline of everything that happened, video clips and news articles which went along until you took control for a second and pulled up some news footage.
"Tragedy struck today here in the Overwatch Switzerland-based HQ where a massive explosion has claimed the lives of Strike Commander Jack Morrison of Overwatch and suspended agent Gabriel Reyes. While their bodies have not been found it is confirmed that they were indeed in the explosion and there is no possible way that they could survive." Sombra looked up at you to see the tears pricking at your eyes as you covered your mouth with one hand and she turned it off. "No, no, no." Was all you whispered as the tears escaped and rolled down your face. Your breaths were unsteady as you held yourself, grieving for the loss of your partner. "You close with them?" Sombra asked and you made eye contact with her, trying to stop your tears while you were sniffed them away. "I love him, I always will." "Jack?" You snorted at her question. "Gabriel." After that day you caught up fully on everything and soon joined Talon even though there was the Overwatch recall. After all, they did abandon you there, like hell you were going back. You worked well with Reaper and couldn't deny that you were attracted to him however you were so conflicted, you felt like you were falling in love with Reaper but you also had Gabriel and your love towards Gabe would always be so strong. You trained with Reaper to try and get you back into the shape you were in before what happened. You were too caught up in your own thoughts so when you felt yourself pinned under Reaper it was a large shock to you. "Dead." He spoke before getting off you and helping you back up. "Something's on your mind. It's distracting you. What is it?" He bluntly asked and you frowned. "Sorry, I've been thinking about what happened and I just don't understand why no one went after me. I mean they went to Kings Row anyway and Gabriel knew exactly where I was going, so why did they just dump me there. I knew I was expendable to them but I guess I didn't know how much. Like I should have known with Jack but I-I thought Gabe cared." At the end, your voice was just a whisper. "I guess that sounds kinda pathetic." You then added before getting in a defensive stance. "Use that." He spoke and you looked up at Reaper. "Use that emotion, turn it into anger and use it fight." "Why do you work for Talon, Reaper?" You asked taking a jab on the left side of him. "They have resources." You eyebrows raised, you hadn't expected him to answer honestly. "Why do you need resources?" "Revenge." He almost brought you down however you dived to the side and then collected yourself again. "Ooo, who against?" A small smiled was placed on your face as you blocked Reapers attack. "Overwatch." You hadn't been expecting that answer. "Does that include me?" You wondered out loud. "I have no reason to hate you. If anyone could understand it would actually probably be you." "What did they do which makes you hate them so much?" "Where do I start?" Reaper joked. That's something that didn't happen that often. "They turned me into this thing if you want a quick answer." He grunted as you caught his arm and twisted it to the side. However, he had been expecting this and countered you giving the advantage he needed and pinned you down on the ground again. You just lay there under him, puffing as he kept you still. "Why did you save me?" "What they did was inhumane and Overwatch never should have left you there." "How did you know what was-" "They documented it all. There were videos." "Oh. Gross."
It had been about three months since you joined Talon and about a month since you started doing missions again. You had become rather close with Reaper, Widowmaker and Sombra. Sombra was your best friend now, someone who brought light in the gloomy place. It was hard for you to get past what was done to Amelia but you eventually moved past it and she soon became close to you. You never really did get to know her in Overwatch so it was nice to get to know her now. Reaper, you had a strange relationship with him, the pair of you liked to be close but at the same time, you were both distancing yourself. It was also pretty hard that he reminded you so much of Gabriel. Sometimes it was hard for you, how could you move on when you were being constantly reminded of something?
You were on a mission with the group of them, you all had become a small squad. Sombra had gone in ahead of the rest of you while Widow covered from behind. You and Reaper were together and slowly entered the building without notifying the place. However, things didn't go to plan when the alarm went off. "Sombra." Reaper hissed into the intercom. "I stopped us from tripping the alarm." "It was someone else." You realized out loud. A large group of armed men came your way. You scanned the area for a hiding spot but gasped when felt Reapers arm snake around your waist. Before you could speak it happened, your body turned into smoke before reappearing after the men passed. Coughing you turned to Reaper who stopped you from talking, "later." However, his efforts were for naught when you were soon found immediately. It wasn't the guards though. It was the people who also infiltrated the facility, Overwatch. A gunshot whizzed past your head and you looked over to see an old woman with a sniper rifle at the top of the building. Widow was at the other side of the grounds so you highly doubted she would be able to get the woman. "Ana, she's switched to bullets most likely to do damage against me." Reaper started running with you to get to cover, but the pair of you went different ways. She could only shoot you one at a time. "Regroup at Widows location." Reaper instructed as you ran back into the facility away from Ana. As soon as Ana was out of range you were knocked to the ground by a large muscular man. By using the momentum he had created you grabbed him and smashed his face into the ground. You picked yourself up and automatically went into the defensive position while he got up and ripped his now broken visor off his face. He paused as the pair of you made eye contact. "Agent." He spoke with a voice you could never forget. Jack Morrison. You heard Reaper in your ear again. "Did you copy instructions? Regroup at Widowmakers location. He asked, you were kinda busy. "Noted." You muttered to him as Jack took a step forward. "Did Talon take you?" He asked. "They saved me." "Saved you? You saw what the did to Am-" "You left me to fucking die! I was tortured I was experimented on and you never even fucking tried to find me. Talon took me away from that. Gave me my life back." You hissed at him, anger boiling in you. He grunted and raised his gun and you dodged the rockets he fired at you which smashed into the wall behind you. He didn't care, he was trying to distract you. The large bulletproof coat you wore stopped any casual singular bullets which came at you, however, there was only so much your coat could take. You noticed Reinhardt swinging his hammer towards you. You rolled to the side but at your side so you felt a sharp pain in your side which cause you gasp out. You were outnumbered and overpowered. "Report." Reaper spoke in your ear. "Leave me, go and finish the mission." You replied, there was no point in coming back for you. "I'm not leaving you behind again." He growled back before the com went silent. Again? Ignoring the pain in your side you ran into a side room and slammed the door close. Normally you would have gone in the vents but there was no way you could hoist yourself up with your injury. There was only so much time before Reinhardt's hammer would break through the metal door. However, there was another door at the other side of the room but you knew you weren't in the shape to outrun them. Blood continued to flow from your wound which you used to your advantage and created a trail outside of the door. Then you managed to stop the trail for a few meters as you walked behind the desk on the left side which stretched across the entire room. You held your breath as the door was smashed open and Jack ran through, what was his name he used? Soldier 76. He was followed by Reinhart who fell for the false trail and pause when it finished. “Split up, she injured and won’t be able to fight.” He spoke before the pair ran off down the fork in the path. However, you soon heard more footsteps, heavy footsteps. Had Solider come back? Did he realize? You raised your two pistols towards the sound and let out a sigh of relief when Reaper was in front of you. He crouched down and examined your wound, the blood kept forming around and was slowly pooling on the floor around you. “Take your jacket and shirt off.” He instructed, you did as he told, wincing when you had to lift your arms. He took your partly bloody shirt and ripped it in half before wrapping it around the wound. He tied it tightly around your abdomen where the bullet had hit. Ana had probably switched from her usual gun as they weren't as effective on Reaper. You put your jacket back on, now only in a black bra and your jeans. He gently helped you off the group before picking you up in a bridal state. “You shoot, I’ll move.” He told you which you responded with a nod. “The others have gone on and finished the mission and have left already. We are on our own but there is a safe house not too far away from here. The chopper left behind a bike, do you think you can ride it?” He asked as you turned the corner and immediately shot the three guards which were running towards you. “With your arms around me, I could do anything.” You smiled weakly. “Yeah but I don’t think I'll be able to hang onto you from behind.” You then added in more seriously. The pair of you had eventually got to the bike and then the safehouse however by the time Reaper opened the door you had nearly passed out, your vision was hazy and you couldn’t hold on your guns any longer. Reaper placed you on top of the metal table in the middle of the kitchen. He had taken off his gauntlets before disappearing for a minute and reappearing. He had taken off his mask and robe and had a white box in his hands. You tried to focus on his face to see what he looked like but failed as your vision finally failed.

Adventures in Deckbuilding #149: Princess Celestia, Solar Sister (Yellow/Purple/Orange Aggro) [Harmony]
Princess Celestia, Solar Sister
Tumblr media
Solar Teacher, Really
You won’t hear me saying this very often, but I’m just about ready to be done with Celestia for now. Once long ago, there was a time where I was very excited for this Mane. Finally, I thought, here was a Celestia Mane with a clear purpose, one that surely will be good eventually, since at some point there will be enough good alicorns that the archetype will just have to emerge. Well, funnily enough, this absolutely did happen, but not with this Mane anywhere in the picture. Alicorn Tribal is totally a thing, but Celestia unfortunately got left behind.
Moreover, almost more than any other card, this one has posed a significant problem for me in this series. Over the course of building three decks with her, it has been incredibly difficult to come up with unique concepts for decks that feel like I’m not just retreading old ground with her. But this Mane really does have but a single purpose: to be at the helm of a deck filled with alicorns, and since all she gives us is extra Power, there’s not much else to do except confront Problems. So, rather than present three distinct ideas, with this Mane we’re left instead with what really is three episodes in the evolution of a single Yellow/Purple deck (though this time with just the barest shade of Orange thrown in).
Navel-gazing aside, though, this Mane has always at least remained fun to play, and the alicorn pool has improved over the years, owing to Twilight’s status as one, and to the introduction of all the new tri-coloured cards. Tri-Twi especially is a card that can anchor a deck all on its own with only a little help. Each one of her three abilities has its room for exploitation, whether by abusing her frighten-prevention with Persistent, latching her onto the field after Paradox Pony plays her for only three AT, or just by nearly doubling the Power of all the Friends in your deck.
Seriously. With Solar Sister pitching in her own +1, and a single Flash Sentry out, our deck is suddenly filled with five Power Friends that we can drop for zero AT. Admittedly only one of those per turn, but it doesn’t take long before that stacks into a massive board that can confront everything out there. Throw in Day Shift to save them from Home Limit, and we’re in a good spot. Plus, and perhaps most crucially, we should be able to do this while saving the two AT necessary to keep Twilight protected. Once we get a Brian or two out we won’t even have to do that.
Also notable is Twilight’s ability to improve the effectiveness of many other cards in the Yellow catalogue, most notably those that create lots of bodies. Raptor Raiser is a fine card already; when it’s effectively dropping Rock tokens instead of Critters, though, that’s a whole different ball game. Most of the Yellow Dilemmas benefit too. Indeed, while one might expect to find the most benefit from Industrial Revolution over Coraling Critters, my guess is that with this much Power coming from those tokens, I’d prefer to be able to put them where I want them, as it should be easy to set up confronts where I want them.
Now, this Mane still has the same characteristic weakness that she’s always had. While we’re not beholden to a confront to get her flipped, we instead have to get two different alicorns onto the field, and those have never really been found in the low-req spots. Thus the otherwise painful inclusion of also-ran Cutie Mark Researcher. Thankfully, the Nightmare Moon Friend is always going to be playable in a Harmony meta stacked with DJ, which last I checked this one was.
As with the alicorn deck in Core, this one is noticeably lacking in Events and interference. We’re not really deficient against Troublemakers, owing to our huge Power output, but that singleton Turning Point does offer one nice thing: the opportunity to Destiny Drain whatever you got rid of. That’s a benefit that Cracking the Case doesn’t have, notably. That said, the DD is almost certainly going to be used on whatever combo piece the opponent is attempting to keep around.
So there is still some fun to be had here at least. Nonetheless, this is a card that I’m thankful to see off the list, at least until the queue runs dry and I decide to add a fourth deck for every Mane in the game.
A friend told me a little while ago that I really wanted to cover Paradox Pony so badly, I should just do it. But alas, that’s not how these things work. The dice will fall as they may, and so far they haven’t come bearing her numbers. Sorry, Twilight. But next week will be Fluttershy, Nurturing Nature.
