I finally graduated from retail and work in a casino now. Which is good money and I finally have benefits, but also I now know what $5million dollars sitting on a table looks like, and my wallet cries every single goddamn time I see it, which is literally every other day.
...Anyways if you're 21+ and hate working retail, try working at a casino. At least it never gets boring. There's always some crackhead doing drugs in a bathroom, a table full of white men playing Poker, a very friendly and hilarious Asian man who is having a great time 100% of the time, and an old lady who is aggressively territorial of her slot machine.
On the bright side, JoAnns literally trained me to be awake at 3am, so my 4am shifts at the casijo ain't shit, and all that cash handling experience has definitely come in handy. Yeet.

Heard from the grape vine today that the store manager I was fired for calling a bitch didn't even last 1 year at the store, before quitting for a job at Ikea, making $1 more an hour.
Almost makes me want to reapply to that store, just so I can come face to face with the district manager who fired me and ask her, "So how'd hitching your wagon to an unreliable ass go for ya?"
Idk, I just really want to see her expression when I bring up the point that she single-handedly ruined the amazing crew we had there by refusing to get rid of that store manager, who didn't even last 365 days at that store before fucking off somewhere else.

Like, we all get it! Coporations in this capitalistic society take advantage of employees! We KNOW!!! However, ignoring the fact that theft puts employees at risk of losing their jobs, especially during this global pandemic with our huge unemployment rate right now, is dangerous! Like, most standard employees working retail make minimun wage and live below the poverty line, and theft impacts them the most.
And they wanna call me a bootlicker and pro-management for thinking about those poor employees and telling people not to steal from a company who actively punishes those employees??? Yeah, okay.
Anyway, shop locally if you want to fuck over large corporations. Don't steal if you know the company punishes employees.
Contrary to popular belief, Spirit Halloween DOES punish employees for customer theft.
Store managers lose their bonuses, employees get fired, and if a certain location has a shrink percentage larger than 10%, that location will not reopen the following year, meaning those employees will not be asked to come back the following year, because they failed to protect the company's assets.
So not only are you messing with jobs and pay by stealing from Spirit Halloween, but you'll be why certain locations don't reopen the following year.
Think about that the next time you thinkk about stealing a shitty Pageboy wig, a $10 choker, or an entire Sexy Little Red Riding Hood costume.

I literally explained to you why theft directly impacts me, as a worker, in our corrupt Capitalistic society, and why that frustrates me, and you have the audacity to call me a "bootlicker" and "pro management" when I liiterally said, "Fuck the company! I care about my income!"??? Literally fuck off with that bullshit. Idk why you think this is up for debate when it's not. Stealing from Spirit Halloween directly impacts the employees, and people who are willing to risk those employees jobs and income to steal the same shit you could cop from Spencer's are wack.
Idk why you're the one saying I'm frothing at the mouth when you reblogged yourself multiple times and every note you say I'm ignoring is just you, screaming in my replies, about how I'm "gullible" and believe in "propaganda". Meanwhile, my regional manager literally looked me in the eye and told me he was going to fire a girl, because a $90 Krampus mask was stolen from her zone while she was on the clock. But I shouldn't fucking worry about theft, nor tell people this company literally punishes employees, directly, for theft and to not steal from them, because it puts minimum wage workers at risk of losing their income???
Baby girl, I am not the one with fucked up priorities. Bringing up my follower count and saying I'm trying to chase clout when this blog is literally just a space for me to vent about working retail, and then obsessively reblogging yourself over and over again just shows you're the one who's clout chasing here. I literally don't care what my follower count is. It could be 3 people, of 300 people, and I'll still post dumb stories about shit that's happened to me while working retail, because all I care avout is sharing experiences, and venting out my frustrations. But thanks for the notes, I guess??? 😘😘😘

I'm not blaming customers for my exploitation.
I'm blaming thieves for making my life more difficult and threatening my job, when everyone understands how Capitalism exploits workers and understands workers are at a disadvantage.
I'm blaming TikTok for making theft trendy with its popular audio "If it's a chain, it's free reign." and glorifying theft with justifications like, "Fuck Capitalism anyways! Stick it to the man!", when the best way to stick it to big corporations is to shop locally. Or have you not seen the "Borrowing" side of the app?
I'm angry about the carelessness and recklessness of greedy people, who threaten my very precious job in these trying times, because the only people who steal from a Halloween store are greedy fuckers, let's be real.
I'd rather just have people not shop in my store, than steal from it, because with sales being low, we can at least blame the pandemic, and be cleared to have our location reopen next year. But if sales are low AND shrink is high, our location won't reopen at all, because the area will be deemed "too risky".
Your insensitivity is fucking astounding to me. Like, how do you, as a fellow retail worker, not understand the fucking frustration at having your job put on line, having your livelihood threatened during a pandemic, because people are greedy??? Like, I get that we're exploited. I get that we're not paid enough to care about the company. I GET IT.
I DON'T GIVE TWO FLYING FUCKS ABOUT THE COMPANY!!! I CARE ABOUT HAVING AN INCOME!!! I CARE ABOUT NOT GETTING FIRED, BECAUSE THAT AFFECTS MY FUTURE EMPLOYMENT!!! I CARE ABOUT LOSING BONUSES AND GETTING PAY-CUTS!!! NOT ABOUT THE FUCKING COMPANY!!! I CARE ABOUT SHITTY PEOPLE RISKING MY JOB AND INCOME, BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO PAY $12.99 FOR SOME FISHNETS!!!

@saltycracka Listen buddy...I literally work there. Don't tell me we'll "just find other terrible seasonal jobs" when my team actually enjoys what we do, and enjoys working together. Like talk about being fucking insensitive. Not to mention how many of us didn't have jobs due to COVID-19 until Spirit Halloweens opened up. My job, and the pay that I and others desperately need to help us get to 2021, is literally on the line when people steal from our stores. People do not need a $90 Krampus mask to survive, or to "stick it to the capitalists". This is the fucking system we live in, and it sucks, but stealing doesn't make it better, it makes it worse for honest, hard working people. You want to stick it to capitalists??? Just don't buy from big businesses. Buy and support small businesses. Theft isn't the answer.
And 10% shrink might seem high, because it IS, and many stores in my district is very close to hitting that shrink rate, because people are stealing more this year than ever before, thanks in part to TikTok challenges popularizing theft from Spirit Halloween stores.

Me: *pulls into the parking lot at work*
Coworker: *sees me while they're on their break, and does the Gay Squat™️ to let me know I have been spotted*
Me, rolls up next to them with my music blasting, rolls down my window: WHAT'S UP FUCKER?!
Coworker: WHAT'S UP BITCH?!
The two of us: *hang out in the parking lot like the rats we are, until we absolutely have to go inside*

I'm gonna start barking at customers who try on masks despite our giant signs telling them not to, as well as the customers who say, "Your fitting rooms being closed due to COVID won't stop me from trying this on in the middle of the asiles!".

Just a note to those who ever are looking for a job in retail:
The best time to get a job in retail is right fucking now. Literally late September - mid November is when places hire their seasonal help for Christmas. If you're good at your job and pick up things quickly, they'll more than likely keep you through the new year.
The absolute worst time to find a job in retail is January - March. This is the end of most company's fiscal year, which means they have ZERO payroll left for the year, ontop of having poor sales thanks to no one wanting to spend money after Christmas. So most places drop to a skeleton crew, and will not hire anyone during this time, and are actually actively letting go their seasonal crew that they don't intend to keep, if they haven't already. The only thing they'll look forward to at this point is tax season and spring break in late March - April.
The exceptions are seasonal jobs at Halloween stores like Spirit Halloween, which look to hire employees in late July - August for the season, and theme parks like Six Flags that open in late March for spring breaks, and hold special events like Fright Fest, which starts hiring actors and workers in July.
Back to School is another big time in retail, towards the beginning of June and into July, where stores start hiring people, but due to COVID-19, that was a big flop this year. (And is why I was laid off from Zumiez.)
Do with this info what you will.

In other news, I had a snot-nosed brat come in today, and look at a Halloween mask. I watched him look at our signs that say "Please do not try on masks." and ask loudly, "I wonder if I can try on masks." and then DID IT ANYWAY until his grandma told him not to before looking at me for back-up.
"Due to COVID-19, you aren't supposed to try on masks."
"WHAT?! THAT'S NOT FAIR!"
Kid, you're 10 and wearing a Legend of Zelda shirt. Shut the fuck up you fucking future neck beard, and give me the mask you tried on so I can go pour bleach in it your fucking germ-ball. I know your dumbass can fucking read, because you play Zelda, and I know you read our signs. Grow the fuck up.

Dear shitty brats that came into the store today without masks on and then proceeded to cough on everything as you were escorted out of the store;
When you catch COVID, because you refuse to wear masks during a global pandemic, I hope you recover so I can watch you fall off your stupid fucking trick bike, you future highschool dropout.

Why I got in trouble: A customer bullied me into using a coupon for her two purchases, and a total stranger's purchase. You cannot reuse coupons at Spirit Halloween. It is one time use only, and my store recently got in trouble for "using too many coupons of the same code". Keep in mind, I had been left by myself at the registers and was never informed this was the case. So I came 👌 close to crying, cause my boss used her "I'm disappointed in you and you're in big trouble" voice at me.
So anyways. Don't be a dick to cashiers and ask how many times you can use a coupon instead of forcing them to do something to appease you.
My boss gave me the "You're in trouble" tone of voice today, and I almost immediately started crying, and I have to work five more days before I get a single, solitary day off.
