I would love to hear you talk about Kassandra???
So, what can I say about Kassandra.
Well, firstly, I've been thinking about how I want to answer this question since I got it however many months ago and I figured I wanted to speak about my own interpretation of things rather than formal stuff - half because I don't want to cite anything since going through Iliad based papers brings me little joy and half because I figure I could treat it a bit more casually this way. So here's like, a very brief selection of thoughts I have about Kassandra, Saintess of Troy.
I view her tale as a microcosm of the wider tale of the Fall of Troy from Apollo's perspective. A human is given a choice and, of their own free-will, they make the most destructive decision ignorant of the way they're sealing their own fate and no matter how much their patron will want to save and help them, they will be unable to so much as lift a meaningful finger because the choice made is one that is sealed in Fate and powers far beyond any one god. The themes of doomed love are also shared; Kassandra loved Apollo just as Apollo loved her but she couldn't be what he wanted of her. She couldn't accept what it was he was offering, no matter how much power, honour and love he tried to tempt her with and in a lot of ways, I think of her devastating visions of doom and death(tm) as a physical parallel to the feelings Helen must be tormented with knowing that she will be cited as the reason of such mass death, destruction and violence. Likewise, I see Apollo's inability to save Kassandra up until the end as representative of his wider inability to save Troy. All his love and blessing were not enough, even though all she had to do was take his hand, it simply wasn't meant to be and so I imagine that must be a fresh hurt for him with each beloved mortal he loses during the campaign.
Kassandra is genuinely so interesting? Both as a character and as a narrative idea; she sits almost in the center of so many fascinating parallels and foils that it gets me so excited whenever she comes up in conversation! I've mentioned it briefly before but she forms a very neat triad with Iphigenia and Troilus which runs parallel to the three dominant male powers in Iliad - Agamemnon, Achilles and Apollo. They're what I somewhat refer to as the sacrifice trio, innocents who must ultimately be abandoned and stripped away for the sake of the desire of their sacrificer, in turn revealing something intrinsic about the nature of the man. For Iphigenia, she reveals that Agamemnon truly values his ambition over all, that his image and status as a leader is more meaningful to him than the love of his family (which, of course, dooms him in the end). Likewise, for Achilles, Troilus' sacrifice reveals that no matter the glamour or glory that crowns Achilles' head, his rage is ultimately his most powerful feeling and it burns bright and hot no matter the circumstance, opponent or arena. For Apollo, Kassandra's sacrifice (which is much more symbolic as he is a god and therefore need not actually physically kill her) reveals his position as the 'loser', one who will be scorned and reviled and lose all the things he loves no matter how closely he cherishes or adorns them. He can't protect the mortals he's blessed, he can't protect his children - he can't even save one woman. She also has that aforementioned triad with Helen and Andromache - the sequestered women; doomed to wait and pray but each, in their own ways working to save and support their own in the conflict. They're all haunted by the promise of what awaits them - Andromache's hopes and future lies with Hector and with her son yet she is the embodiment of a war-wife, solid and stoic in her support when Hector returns but suffering deeply knowing each fight could be his last. Helen, of course, carries with her both the suffering of the greek women and the hatred of their men - if Andromache fears death taking the breath from her beloved fighters then Helen bears the weight of death upon her shoulders, all grief and scorn is bore like a crown upon her head and she must bear it. It is her duty to bear it. Kassandra then becomes the suffering of the young women - they who are surrounding on all sides by throngs of death and do not know why it has come, they whose screams intermix with that of the dead upon them. There is no avatar for Kassandra to experience the war through, no reason for her to be stoic or strong or upright. She tears her hair, hysterical at the suffering that is poured into her mind day in and day out, wild and unrestrained where her elders must hold their grief and tame it. In this way, she gives voice to the voiceless, she screams for those who cannot and is reviled for it - a young woman surrounded by death yet ordered not to speak a word of its stench or horror. There's many more things I can talk about too such as the whole Kassandra as Apollo's living Palladium thing or the Kassandra-Electra-Clytemnestra trio or even Chryseis as a reflection of Kassandra and how the taking of a priest's daughter could be seen as tantamount to trying to steal away Kassandra (and how this eventually wraps back around to the actual incident of Kassandra being stolen away and ending up right back under Agamemnon's care just as Chryseis before her) but like, we would be here all day.
Y'all maybe this is a hot take but scorned woman Kassandra is like, the most boring interpretation of her ever. She has so much life and passion in her, so much joy, so much despair, so much love - making her jaded and cynical towards both her fate and her god is such a slap in the face to me of what her character could and generally does seem to stand for. Kassandra never stopped loving Apollo - likewise, Apollo (at least to me) never abandoned her. All in Troy suffer heavy, cursed fates - Kassandra is one of the few who at least had some awareness of how hers would turn out. I like that she's a fighter. I like that she screams and cries and spits and is expressive and ugly in her torment and grief when so many of the women around her cannot afford to be. I like that she said no and despite how much she suffered for it, she never begged for her yolk to be taken from her because she knew that the choice she made was the right one for her. She's raw, she's vivid, she's human and more than anything, that's what I love so much about her.
#ginger answers asks#Oh my god after twelve million years I finally answered it#Obviously I could say like a limbillion more things about Kassandra - much like with a lot of the lovers of Apollo#I have a pretty much inexhaustible amount of opinions about them but Kassandra is most interesting to me as a prophetess and woman than#as a lover tbh. I like interpretations where she refuses Apollo because she's ace btw - like I'm sure if she'd just said that Apollo#would've been cool with it but they'd already made a deal and everything so#Anyway Kassandra Andromache Hecuba Helen - I think all of them are EXTREMELY fascinating women#I think a lot of people tend to flatten all of them a lot which I think is really unfortunate#I mean it's the same with the greek women don't get me wrong - Clytemnestra Deidamia and Penelope are not exempt from the enflattening#But I do feel bad about people's incessant need to 'girlbossify' so many of these women who ultimately are just trying their best.#They just want to live like everyone else. I wish there was more space to recognise and celebrate that#kassandra#kassandra of troy#apollo#agamemnon#achilles#hecuba#helen#the iliad#greek myth#Anyway stan Kassandra fr and thank you so much for the ask Hogwings - I hope it was worth the wait LMFAO

Architects can change their form right? I mean their bodies are pretty much a few dozen organisms frankensteined together, so it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to imagine that even though it isn’t desirable to them they would be willing to get a new body that is based on only a quarter of said organisms, a form that isn’t akin to their usual bodies but more specific for certain planets / solar systems. I mean canonically we know that they can transfer to different bodies so it isn’t much of a stretch to imagine they do have different types of bodies for different planets and solar systems. So what would a humanoid body look like? I’d imagine it wouldn’t look like an actual human does, perhaps a little uncanny (eyes too far apart, nose too far up, lower arms too long, you get it) or just full alien, maybe a mix of features too. Would they have hair or would it be considered inefficient? Would they be taller or shorter than the average human? Female or male presenting? Or androgynous perhaps?
TLDR: if architects would create a humanoid(ish) body would it have hair or not?
#subnautica#al-an#al an subnautica#video game fandom#headcanon#please I need an answer#I want to draw semi humanoid architects soo bad ngl#imagine how cool it would be if architects would consistently have more than one form though#sorry I’m merging this with my own sci-fi story a little lmao but still#I just love aliens man they’re so fun to design- even speaking in hypotheticals#al an#subnautica architects#I might actually draw this tbh#you know what#I will draw that#give me a second

Shavuli !
She's just. Into rocks. It's fine. She likes to collect shiny rocks. (this is dice related and I am not apologizing for giving her this trait)
#my characters#not me being anxious about what if my buddy doesnt like the blue fae hahahahaha#also you have to realize that it took a lot of energy to refrain from drawing absolutely wild shit bc i played 20mins of an otome#and it was wild and my brand of wild and if i didnt take so much to help me sleep last night i woulda played more#one person got the play by play and its SUCH A trip and i should play more than 20 minutes before drawing for it#but anyway hello this is an oc and i tried so hard with various colors other than yellow but i didnt like the contrast as much#so yellow splashes as a treat#also she is much more rounded bc she isnt intent on being the edgiest fae alive (noll has those honors)#also since i mentioned it while i started doodling her on stream ? its worth noting that the games the fae start#are like extreme tag where they get a human partner roped into their game and then give the humans a nice lil present#which is a weapon but its also the fae themselves#and are like yeah lets go kick butt! and someone in the stream asked if the humans got hurt#and the answer is no ! because the weapons are the fae and the fae dont wanna be hurt so as long as they have fun thats enough#its just an elaborate game of tag with weapons#shavuli becomes a lance if anyone is interested and thats not actually inspired by my buddy i just#think lances are cool and i think my buddy is cool so yeah

Actually, Guzman is his spanish name.
OH YEAH some other folks pointed that out too, makes sense since it's an irl Spanish name (probably why I see it around a lot!) 😳
(normally it's a surname, I've only seen it used as a first name once in a blue moon -- but also in the pokemon world it's pretty clear that naming conventions aren't the same lol)
#oceandi answers#radicalldreamer#still harder for me to connect it to him since I played all the games in english -- it's only one letter away but it still feels just a#smidge closer than 'bromley'#frankly I hope someone out there calls him 'bromley guzmán' as his full name. and he just GOES by 'guzma' bc it sounds cool#that'd be neat#tag rambling#rambling ahead ->#speaking of guzma I spent a long time talking about aus with some friends and well. I think his dad's from johto skdjfksjdfskjd#iirc that was a HC back in the day amongst a small group of guz enjoyers.... but I think it makes SO much sense for gene's guz specifical#ly bc listen . hear me out okay he somehow knew about the bug trainers' convention and he wanted to go and usu'ally they#hold it in JOHTO. he's never won a gold medal for BATTLE but got the dawn stone as his first ever victory -- guess what region you can#get a dawn stone from in a competition that's based on more than just battling? the real tragedy of the Amis chapters is that Marius is clearly terrified of asking questions about any of the genuinely baffling multitiered punbased conversations the Amis are having, when they would all VERY DEFINITELY be beyond delighted to get a new audience to infodump on

What's your opinion on the take that Sam is always running away?
ooh oh my goodness this is. complicated.
I think before even getting into the actual canon events, the real issue that I personally have with it is that, when people say it (including dean), it's usually predicated on the idea that sam did not grow up in an abusive environment / did not experience as much abuse as dean which has little-to-no canonical proof. this directly relates to both flagstaff (he's trying to escape an abusive environment where he doesn't feel taken care of) and stanford (he's literally just going to college !), where people think he had ""no reason"" to want to leave or that he ""abandoned"" dean
in terms of on-screen events I think "always" is untrue and honestly unfair. the only two times I can think of that can be actually defined as "running away" would be flagstaff, since that's the legal definition what happened, even if I don't blame him for it at all, and post-s7/pre-s8 when sam himself says that he just "ran" from real-life and the memories of dean. I don't think that constitutes saying that he factually "always runs away." to me, any other examples that people like to use don't really hold up - in 04x21, he's not running away, just killing lilith without dean (who could be considered an active threat to sam after the panic room) and in 05x03, they mutually decided it would be better for sam (a recovering addict) to step away (additionally, sam immediately calling dean when he finds out that he's lucifer's vessel seems to show the opposite of running away imo and a willingness to do what needs to be done)
I think it really comes down to the fact that leaving dean or leaving a dangerous situation does not equal running away, even if dean thinks that. and the popularization of this take seems to stem from the narrative bias in dean's favor and how the audience is mostly restricted to dean's narratively justified despair/anger while sam's emotions aren't explained (see: 05x16 when dean gets a whole long moment about flagstaff and why he's upset about it, but sam doesn't get to explain why he left in the first place.)
anyways. overall, I understand where it comes from, since dean does use that language in relation to sam, but I dislike it and I think it's a very limited take that vilifies sam for simply having autonomy / the desire to make his own choices, even if they don't involve his family and/or dean
#also I think it's important to recognize that sam's instances of running away are trauma responses#both examples come from a place of abuse or recent death / complete isolation and are more examples of sam trying to find a way to survive#rather than a purposeful or malicious escapement of responsibility#thank you so much for the ask ! it was so fun to get and made me feel very cool :)#I hope this was sufficient / answered your ask <3#star notes#sw#💌

actually I would quite like to hear your thoughts on gender philosophy in omegaverse worldbuilding? :3
hm. anon, I fear this is a far larger can of worms than you probably anticipated. I'm going to spare you the worst of it by only giving you a short version, but be careful what you wish for.
I'm also hiding it under a cut because even the short version is embarrassingly long.
I'm hardly a connoisseur of omegaverse content, nor would I consider myself anywhere near an expert. I don't want to speak for all fics as I've admittedly not read many. I did do my master's diss about legal gender recognition, so this is more about gender and philosophically sound worldbuilding than an indictment of any particular writing or story tbh.
the short answer is I find omegaverse worldbuilding really interesting, but I've never fully been able to enjoy it due to the way a/b/o identities tend to have a biological determinist slant to them imo, and tendency for a lack of real world implications of what the omegaverse does to gender and character interactions anywhere outside the bedroom. I'd love to figure out a version that's more inclusive and philosophically/ideologically consistent, both with itself and with my own views on real life gender (basically, I want to make it make more sense, have less biological determinism, and be more inclusive of the wider range of human experiences). this is a big task, and ngl I haven't achieved it and don't anticipate doing so any time soon. I have like, a concept in my head, taking apart all the key pieces and putting them together again but different, but to make it thorough enough would require more effort and time than I have because I'm like, employed 😔
I feel like someday if I ever get invited to a powerpoint night though, this could be It.
#i'm sorry if this isn't a satisfying answer. i genuinely don't know how to explain this concisely#feel free to follow up if you want - it's not that i don't want to talk about it. i just don't want to write an entire thesis on your dash#originally i'd started drafting a long version to put under a read more or something#but then i went off on wayyy too many tangents#there was stuff about transness#there was stuff about intersex people#there was something about blood types#there was extrapolation to implied historical a/b/o discrimination and the presumed historical fight for omega suffrage#there was more than that too but i realized i was sounding a little like the pepe silvia meme so i stopped myself#i mean i still have all these thoughts and i'm like keeping notes and stuff. the omega suffrage thing is going places.#but tumblr dot com might not be the place for me to figure it out live on the spot#fr tho this is the sort of thing i'd genuinely want to study more full time if i ever went back to academia to do something frivolous#i wish i could cite sources and stuff for you. i want to be an academic expert. unfortunately i have a real life job :(#cool enough for asks#.txt#anon#about#secondary gender studies tag#<- there. fine. since i'll probably come back to this someday. last thing i need is cluttering up my real actually useful tags

Hi!! I don't know if you remember me, but I'm the person you explained the Castalia thing to a few days ago. I've been following you for a while now, but I just managed to go through your blog well and proper, and I'm here to express both my gratitude for the amount of info and links you've shared (I did NOT know about the hepatoscopy and haruspicy, and I'm about to go down a lengthy rabbit hole) and my horror at once again being given a new hyperfixation (I didn't imagine wanting to read about liver-divination help).
Also, also, are you the author of Exeunt Phoebus Apollo on AO3 because that was the fic that sent me on this greek mythology spree, and it's so good I got obsessed with Apollo, and he's everywhere around me now. Thank you for writing it!
AAAAAA THIS IS SO SWEET?? THANK YOU!! I do remember you and hey man, I'm always happy to help <33
I'm so glad to recruit someone else to my hepatoscopy group because it is a long and storied tradition with many many different types of study and schools of thought dating all the way back to the Sumerians! It's an extremely underrated bit of study when it comes to sketching portraits of divination and prophecy when it comes to adaptations of imaginings of greek myth works - similar to bird augury (which was such a widespread skill that most people had some level of understanding of the basics of what the omens of common birds meant the way people now can look at the clouds over head and know if it'll rain and when approximately that rain'll happen).
It's a great and common misunderstanding that things like prophecy and magic were these fantastic elements that had no tangible features to their practices and while there's nothing wrong with interpreting things as more fantastical for the sake of coolness or aesthetic, I personally think these elements are interesting enough to be worth looking into and portraying!
Also yes, I did write Exeunt 😳I'm very very honoured that you enjoyed my work so much and I'm even more grateful that it could let you see the Apollo in everything 💖 Thank you for reading it!!
#ginger answers asks#HAPPY HARUSPICING!!#Idk man this stuff is just super interesting#I know the Argonauts aren't a very popular tale (for some reason)#But Medea's works of magic are also some of the clearest we get to see descriptions of in text#And part of why the morality of Medea is something that's so widely debated even now is because of what her magic entailed#I personally love stuff like that#Communing with the gods in greek myth always necessitates some kind of sacrifice#The link must literally be made in blood and when mistakes are made or ceremony is ignored#those prices are also paid in blood#now to modern sensibilities it seems cruel or unusual#but many religions in antiquity worked on these bases and the spilling of blood meant more than violence or death or ill omen#There were so many other nuances to it in terms of honour in death or divine death etc etc#One can be very cynical and say 'oh well it doesn't matter they were still killing things and there's nothing cool about that'#And to that I say buddy you're in the wrong hobby#If you can only perceive the spilling of blood whether human or animal as gross/murder/etc etc then you REALLY shouldn't be consuming#pagan culture and tradition LMFAO#Apollo was like#The Butcher God#There's no point is erasing half of his identity to make him some sterile always nice positive good god#He was a hunter a butcher blood stained a sacrificer#Of course blood would be but a language to him#Anyway all of that is to say hepatoscopy is cool and there's a ton of reading to do about it#Fly free my liver brethren!! Fly free!!!!

I LOVE TYJIS FIC SO MUCH SO MUCH SO MUCH!!! PLEAS TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED!! I WAHT IT!!
aaaaahhh anyway i sadly. sadly do want to ask how much Benrey is planned. Will it just be mentions? will he show up? ILL LOVR OT ANYWSY!!okybye
I'M SORRY I'M SO LATE TO ANSWERING THIS TOO!! BUT ALSO THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I LOVE THIS FIC TOO AND I REALLY WANNA FINISH IT!!! I HAVE SO MANY PLANS!! SO MANY IDEAS!!
Speaking off...
So glad you've asked, dear anon!! I too am a Benrey fan, though I can't say I even come close to rivaling Sapph (the beta reader, in case you don't know) and their love for that silly little guy. Sorry why does this sound like a villain monologue?
To actually answer your question, in as vague terms as possible so as to not spoil: There will in fact be more than just mentions >:) The main 4 (OG, Mind, Martini, and Gorgeous) will get AT LEAST ONE silly from their universe each to play a much more major role than just being like, a background easter egg mentioned to get you guys excited. I am a big fan of stories with huge casts and I feel like this will either shine through very well for this fic or just make the plot get progressively more confusing, but I'm having fun and hopefully you're having fun so who cares honestly?
#posts made by rae#posts made by bees#q&a#in case i was too longwinded and you just want the straightest answer possible regardless of potential spoilers#yes benny boy will appear :)#can't have that frenrey off screen now can we?#the real question is HOW are these other guys going to show up?#thats not#thats not me being confused or unplanned btw#I KNOW how#in concept anyway#execution is another thing#but like yeah#i've planned from the get go for more than just the freemens to show up#they're cool characters with so much potential for their interactions don't get me wrong#but i shan't ever limit myself so#i AM the type to put all my eggs into one basket#and some other people's eggs too what are they gonna do about it#share? i hope so 🥺

I'm not an extrovert. At all. In everyday life, I'm a yapper, sure, but I need someone to first assure me I am okay to yap, so I don't start conversations, even when I really want to join in sometimes! It's just the social anxiety acting up. God knows where from and why I lose a lot of my inhibitions when it comes to talking to people about music. I don't know where the confidence has suddenly sprung from. I've made a crazy amount of friends in musical circles, either just talking to people about common music or (since it is after all in music circles) talking to bands about their own music. I let out a sigh of relief any time an interaction goes well, because in truth it's going against my every instinct. I wish I could do that in everyday life
#like that's the point where we need to remind everyone around me that as much as I say#radio is 'a job'-- it's not 'my job' lol. I wish I was this interested in data science#but like. Honestly?? I'm not even a data scientist!? I answered a few questions about classical AI having come from a computer science back#background and now people are saying to me 'I know you're a data scientist and not a programmer' sir I am a computer scientist#what are you on about#and like I guess I get to google things and they're paying me so I'm not complaining but like I am not a data scientist#my biggest data scientist moment was when I asked 'do things in data science ever make sense???' and a bunch of data scientists went#'no :) Welcome to the club' ???????#why did I do a whole ass computer science degree then.
