This phenomem of shounen fandoms of popular female characters revolving around m/f ships is weird, but is more especifically popular/canon ones for some reason. To them being a fan of said top pairing is more important to actually than actually love said character? How tf you'd rather prefer someone who doesn't give a f about the girlie outside of shipping, instead of people who genuely likes them? They will measure i you're a fan of x depending to which man you ship her with?? And it's not because a lot o shounen girls revolve around men, since even characters outside of this trope get into this kind of treatment...
Curiously enough shounen men barely suffers from it? Same if we put the m/m ships (since they tend to be popular), shipping isn't THAT necessary in order to engage with their fandoms, they are not reduced by it not even by the most hardcore shippers, i think i will never understand it

They would be such a sweet couple in this au...like imagine them both bonding over their fickle monster children and the late nights they'd spend pouring over research!!! I think Amane's a night owl so the few times he catches Kou dozing in his office way after hours, he'd drape a blanket over him, hoping Kou gets the rest he deserves. In the mornings Kou would probably bring Amane a cup of coffee or donuts, adoring the way he smiles shyly when he takes them gratefully <3 God there's so much potential here

you wrote a real banger of a line for riz! Additionally, I love how his line about how Pok died because he was alone is followed by adaine and gorgug behind him. Pok was isolated but Riz isn’t. Friendship beam.
exactly u get it!! thank u a lot of bard!riz's arc is about the fear of death and loss and the search for a way to keep it from happening to him again. he will never find a conclusive solution because not everything is caused by a villain to defeat or a deity to appease but with kalina specifically I do always find it so perfect and symmetrical that she orchestrated pok's death and then can't keep riz down. in canon there's a comparison drawn between riz and his dad - they're of the same make, riz looks up to his dad immensely - they're similar enough that you notice their biggest difference is at his back riz has his party while pok had, well, kalina.
I keep rotating this in my mind about sophomore year bard!riz actually, that ever since he learned that his dad was pursuing justice and that the universe is not merely chaotically cruel and to be appeased he's come to the realization that 1/he loves his dad and thinks he's a hero and 2/he has, under the power of his fears, distanced himself from the version of himself that could be like pok at all. he thinks himself a coward, and he doesn't like being a coward, and now being a coward isn't really an option anymore, but there's no proof it didn't keep him safe until high school! and kalina would be actively pushing him towards returning to that perceived safety. I think "friends keep you from dying" is half of it, with the other half being the evolution of the freshman year realization (cruelty thrives in compliance and inaction) that is "cruelty will actively encourage compliance and inaction because it needs those things to spread". the realization that kalina's heart-to-heart is insincere is important in getting riz to where he's like wait a minute I don't have to listen to you just because you agree with my perception of myself lol. for the moment it doesn't matter that he's a coward or a hero, it matters that kalina is trying to manipulate him and his friends to let her resurrect her destructive god. and also that if he dies his friends will tear the realm open to bring him back

Thinking about Lychee Hikari Club again and usamaru furuya is really my favourite mangaka to use as an example of "Eroguro's history as a political statement" bc even with just the two works of his I've seen (LHC, Innocents Shounen Juujigun) there are so many points of discussion that both are shown through and reflected by the Gorey/grotesque backdrop relating to the birth and cycle of fascist ideology and power structures, especially how it's glamourized to youth in the lens of toxic masculinity, the paranoia and fear that came of the Catholic churches use of religion for governance in the medieval world and especially the crusades (still applicable today!!) that impacted everything down to the individuals own socialisation with others (In regards to family life, poverty, homosexuality, etc.) and also real historical examples (Re: Waldensian persecution, corruption in the Knights Templar, and vaguely even the political relations between France and Occitania at that time reflected by the demographics that make up both), the list goes on and on and I couldn't even BEGIN to tackle everything that's shown in like,,, 30-ish chapters combined from BOTH series
And it's all done through the lens of the most beautiful, gut-wrenching tragic characters and their downfalls you've ever seen like who gave him the right

tbh i don't like gintsu they're an extremely harmless 'big' m/f as far as shounen m/fs go like they're Fine i enjoy that they have actual thematic writing but i'm just completely apathetic to them otherwise. because on top of the obvious they're not funny so what's the point .

Curious. Since you and I both like tododeku — do you think that we're delusional for falling for this ship? Is it true that there is absolutely no possibility that they could ever be a thing in canon? Horikoshi, in my opinion, is playing games with the fandom. I personally think that he doesnt even know what he wants when it comes to Ochako because hes seemed to have given up on that. Do you think that theres any slight chance that Hori might surprise us, or do we find ourselves in a delusional hole of hope?
Anon I mean this in the nicest way possible but WHAT are you talking about lmao. I ship a lot of things that I know for certain won’t ever be canon. That doesn’t make me “delusional”, that’s just me having fun and curating my own fandom experience. I don’t have to look at canon ships and agree with them. That’s part of why shipping is so fun—I get to decide how these characters interact. Who cares what Hori’s doing. I don’t. I make the rules in this house
Essentially
Just have fun with it bro
