Astrology Basics

I had a brain blast and decided to break down what all of the planets mean in tropical astrology. I try to use one word that I feel applies to the planet the most and let that be the guide, then a metaphor example to further explain the signification.

SUN: your ability to grow as a person (and what you grow into)

AUTHORITY. relating to personal power, authority, self expression, and independence. if you were King, how would you rule? where would you rule? what’s a priority to you? where was your personal power found?

MOON: your emotional nature, your perspective, your mind.

INSTINCT. Moon comes naturally to you. What were drawn towards, who we are drawn towards, what experiences we create naturally for ourselves. Moon is felt. Moon is experienced.

Moon is the mother, so it's a tender position. It feels true and can be a source of incredible strength. It represents nurturing and our needs as humans.

ASCENDANT: your physical body, central theme of your life

PHYSICS, but in this case we study YOUR motion through time and space!

how that motion impacts other people

what YOU pursue and HOW (chart ruler)

MERCURY: communication style, what the mind will be drawn to. interests and hobbies. mental processing.

INTELLECT, the mental powers and capabilities of a person.

developed through information, listening, exploring interests, communicating.

you witness the intellect in communication.

Do you listen more than you talk? What do you talk about? What captivates your mind?

VENUS: Relationship style. how you are with romance and intimate partners. your personal sense of beauty/values. your “perfume”. what pleases you

BEAUTY, a combination of qualities that pleases the senses.

Related to our earthly experiences, our pleasure driven functions.

MARS: Commanding style. personal sense of ambition, passion, anger, excitement. sexual personality. driving force.

how would you drive a car? are you blasting music? are you smoking? are you playing hymnals? what about road rage? where are you going?

Mars in Taurus might be taking their time, enjoying the scenery. There may be air fresheners in the car and snacks. They're headed to a brunch or to a hair appointment. Mars in Sagittarius is probably on a bike and on their way to go hiking!

SEXUAL, not necessarily pertaining to sex. Think of it more as a matter of instincts, passion, and pursuing that which we are drawn to. How is your passion expressed? How is it expressed within an intimate contact? How does it drive you towards your ambitions? How does your body perform the work?

These next planets have more of an external influence on our persons.

JUPITER: where you find blessings, where you are lucky. where your god-given talents and abilities manifest. your sense of spirituality and faith.

ABUNDANCE. Where we experience abundance we can have a sense of spirituality/faith around it. Jupiter in 4H may receive much through the family or through the mother and have a very faith-based relationship with them. Jupiter in the 3H may have a natural gift for speaking and writing. These are the gifts that bring them abundance and blessings. Jupiter in the 5H Libra may have a lot of faith in their children. They may believe in fighting for children's rights or defending children.

SATURN: where you encounter restrictions/limitations. where you need more structure and patience. where some of your deepest fears lie. karma in the form of tests.

THE SUMMIT/GAUNTLET. Saturn is the mountain we have to climb and it may take a while. Gauntlet also works as a good metaphor too, as Saturn can feel like a series of trials and tests, each one more difficult than the last. However the bounty that awaits you? Mastery, competence, and maturity. Saturn has a sobering effect, like the air on top of the mountain. It's clear and crisp.'

And sometimes those trials we face feel familiar. We encounter people from our current past, souls from past lives, circumstances we did not master in previous incarnations. It can feel ancient.

URANUS: where the LIGHTNING strikes

innovation and insight and ingenuity

where sudden changes and upheavals will come

South Node: past life patterns, area of former mastery, what you’re used to. where you may suffer loss or become detached. the point through which you find spiritual liberation

North Node: you feel a pull in this direction, “destiny coded”. where you can become obsessed and lost. where you may create something entirely new for yourself. another point of spiritual liberation and detachment.

Just from knowing Rahu (NN) and Ketu (SN) in Vedic, I believe that we must find a balance between South and North nodes and develop conscious awareness of the pulls from both nodes, lest we be swallowed whole.

My Corazon HC’s!! pt.1 🤍🤍

Corazon’s an interesting one, bc I feel like he’s either a really corny but like informed dad, or just a really really chill and sweet guy. So, here’s my random hybrid of HCs for Rosi!!

Two Beatles songs he really likes are “For No One” and “In My Life”.

His favorite flavors are cherry, strawberry, and lemon.

He loves Steven Universe.

He LOVES IU and he’s so vocal about it. Because of this, he likes purple! It’s not his fav color, but he thinks it’s very pretty.

Happy birthday to one of the millions of Geminis I know, Yeosang. Here’s an astrological chart reading for him.

✦ Note A lot of previous statements have said 1-2 am for his birth time, but I found a live from (his birthday?) last year where he said 1:30 AM, so I am using that!

✦ Disclaimer I do not know him personally, no harm intended, others may interpret differently. I’ve been studying astrology for six years, and I take this seriously and try my best. Feel free to ask any questions you have! This is not a full chart reading, just a couple of interesting things for his birthday.

✦ Ascendant in Aries, Mars in Libra (Seventh House) His chart is ruled by his Libra Mars, meaning it’s the most powerful planet other than Sun and Moon, and it’s very noticeable in him… He has many Libran qualities, the type to keep the peace with balance, consideration, and forethought. However. Aries is the polar opposite of Libra—it’s the activator, the doer, aggressive and decisive. His view of the world is immediate action. Having the balance of these two is wonderful because he can learn to take initiative but also lean back and work on his cooperation. It ties into his Cancer placements well, too, giving him the empathy needed to listen to others.

Mars in seventh house creates someone innately drawn to those with strong Mars/Aries/Scorpio placements (hilariously, the rest of ATEEZ), and this also can lead to strife and conflict with others—though not always in a bad way! His interactions with other people are fun and active, never boring. He’s definitely someone to have on your side of an argument because he will defend someone he’s close with to the ends of the earth.

Mars opposite Jupiter is something I talked about in Hongjoong’s chart reading and will likely talk about again in San’s chart reading. Obsessive overachiever, though in his case, he has the Aries-Libra axis rather than the Virgo-Pisces of Hongjoong or the Taurus-Scorpio of San. Mars opposite Jupiter can be an incredibly overbearing aspect to have in that someone with this aspect can have a high chance of running others over in order to get to the top, but the Libra balances it out so nicely and makes sure everyone gets a fair chance. But he won’t hesitate to fight when necessary. Good balance.

✦ Jupiter in Aries, Saturn in Taurus (First House) Having Jupiter and Saturn in 1H is extremely contradictory. Jupiter is all about expansion, throwing oneself out into the world with reckless abandon, while Saturn is about restriction and authority and creates a serious demeanor in a person. Crazy dichotomy to have here. Adaptable, unable to adapt. Lucky, unlucky. He can come across as both warm-hearted but cold and uncaring. A love for life and adventure, but tentative to step out of what he knows. It depends on the situation which Yeosang you’re going to get.

He’s the type to want to be successful in some way, likely more traditional means of success such as wealth or fame due to having a 5H Leo Venus and Midheaven in Capricorn. He will achieve what he sets his mind to. I think the Saturn in 1H humbles him in many ways as well, which is good… He has confidence but also holds himself back. Over the years, he’ll likely grow into himself and become more comfortable, especially around when he’s thirty.

✦ Sun in Gemini, Moon in Cancer (Third House); Mercury in Cancer (Fourth House) Moon and Mercury are so close to the IC, which is fascinating overall. Gemini Sun, Cancer Moon, Cancer Mercury, all in third and fourth house—all of these energies blend together and become this amalgamation of immediacy and depth. There’s witty, fickle, petty Gemini-Mercury-3H; there’s the root and the soul of Cancer-Moon-4H. There’s the connections and the emotions.

He’s a very good listener, someone who will understand what you are feeling even if he hasn’t experienced it himself. Though he may not like it at times, he’s often noticed even when he’s not trying to be.

I tend to steer clear of family matters for obvious reasons, but I do speculate he has both a fascinating family history and an interest in it.

Mercury sextile Saturn, the type to think before he speaks… Doesn’t mean he won’t ever say some weird shit (we have proof), but he’s a thinker. He wants his thoughts and ideas to be respected and not tossed aside, and he’s definitely got a lot going on in that head of his that we will never know anything about.

✦ Pluto Rx in Sagittarius (Eighth House) Ultimately, Pluto is concerned with power. Whatever is buried must come to the surface. One of my books describes this as a “coiled up serpent power” that lies in waiting to strike, and I can’t think of anything better to describe it. He has a tremendous amount of reserve energy inside of him, but this planet is also retrograde, which means he tends to internalize a lot of his struggles with power, control, and the darker sides of life. I’ve read a couple of charts with this placement, and while they’re either loved or hated, they’re always remembered.

Venus is trine to Pluto and emphasizes the aforementioned need for monetary success. His relationships with others are complicated and need depth—nothing superficial—though he also has Venus opposite Neptune, so he tends to idealize others.

✦ Final thoughts Yeosang has such a complex chart that it would take me a months to sift through all of the details…which I will likely be doing. Very balanced, very contradictory, very Yeosang… I would say he internalizes a lot of himself, and I hope he constructively lets out that built up tension before it gets to be overwhelming.

The thing that I liked about Dark Sun's intro kinda hasn't been maintained in his next appearances(as they made him more of a general jerk), but his reaction to New Moon specifically was interesting, Dark Sun is a Sun who tried to make peace with Moon but Moon refused and kept hurting him, so he snapped and destroyed him, he's a Sun who was left to languish by everyone and rather than swallowing it and wearing a kind face he went "If you never cared about me like you said, then I am not going to pretend I like you just to make you feel better about leaving me to rot", he was intimidating but you could also see exactly what led him to this, and Dark Sun by that point was also aware of dimensional goings-on, he's seen how often Suns are abused by Moons, or Eclipses, or really most of the people around them, and that probably only validated his feelings of apathy more, his insults towards Moon in his intro were less like teasing and taunting and more scolding and criticisms, not making fun but more chastising flaws, and that's what I liked, Dark Sun is basically the worst-case-scenario, when a Sun is pushed so far by all the abuse and neglect that their inherent kind nature is destroyed, and what's left is sharp, apathetic intellect that has no care for the people who hurt them and who isn't shy about saying so, though in his later appearances he started just throwing insults around which to me felt a bit off, I liked it when the stuff he said was more like scolding, because I feel like most Suns are way more aware of what's going on with people than people think, they see and are aware of people's character flaws, but he's normally too nice to address those flaws or issues until he's pushed to an outburst, Dark Sun just has no filter and says those things in the most blunt, patronizing way possible because he's fed up with being nice, if he has a problem with somebody he'll say it to their face in the most hurtful way, which feels more calculated and pointed than just pointing at somebody and going "you suck", that's what he did when he met New Moon, talking about how Moons are a certain way and how it leads to problems, not just insults but observations delivered in a scathing way, its what helped make him seem so scary and calculated, that's what I liked anyways idk if that made sense

(long post! aww yeeaaa!) oh yes yes makes perfect sense! is why I LOVED him too! the fact he wasnt really "evil" just- done! he was done acting nice, he was done hiding his dark side, and his dark side is just "I dont give a fuck anymore" I loved that, as you said, "Dark Sun just has no filter and says those things in the most blunt, patronizing way possible because he's fed up with being nice" THIS THIS THIS! I loved how, in no way , he made Moon a target , never put him in any danger! but only took his info in a way.. "his insults towards Moon in his intro were less like teasing and taunting and more scolding and criticisms, not making fun but more chastising flaws" - is importat as well, Moons do love to tease, push buttoms, is why BloodMoon is the way he is, he is also a Moon! is why Eclipse loves to twist the dagger when he can.. is why most Moon's dont get to live long, they bite too much, Suns? docile, quiet, they look down an say "im not mad, im just dissapointed" theeen they do make him evil,, but so far- Im hopefull he is only acting on, and if meet with , say, another Sun? he would be more kinder, I bet he would be kinder to Lunar too,, I want to believe it! imsure many are EATING his actually evil self, for me, I like it better when is moraly grey.. I liked it better when he only looked after himself because no one would have cared for him..

Could Ty-Lee be considered an energy bender?

I wouldn’t doubt if someone had already considered this theory before, but I tried finding if anyone had this idea. Nothing came up, so I guess I have to talk about it!

This semester, I have a TV in my dorm room, and a cool roommate to watch ATLA with. He has never seen the show, and quickly fell in love with it. Through his eyes, I’ve been seeing it all for the first time with new thoughts…

Introduction:

I know that Aang discovers energy bending at the end of the show. This is, of course, how he removes Ozai’s fire bending, rendering him powerless.

While energy bending is shown and described, very little detail is given in terms of its limitations, leaving me with many questions;

Is the Avatar the only person who can be an energy bender?

Is energy bending only accessible via Lion Turtle, or can it be inherited like other methods of bending?

Is the level of energy bending displayed by Aang only representative of a fully realized energy bending master combined with the power of the Avatar?

If methods of bending are learned from nature- fire from dragons and the sun, air from flying bison, water from the moon, and earth from badger moles- then energy bending must be granted from lion turtles. Does this mean that all other creatures can theoretically gift a human with bending abilities?

With all these questions left unanswered, it is hard to give a concrete answer to the nature of energy bending. What makes this even more complicated is the abilities of Ty-Lee.

Ty-Lee and Her Power

There are already many theories that debate Ty-Lee’s ancestry and its connection to Air Nomad Refugees. I am not opposed to the idea that she could have air bending abilities, but it would only be consistent with the canon if she was unaware of them; hence why she only “seems” to air bend. However, this can be explained as many years of practice and strength training that allows her to defy gravity.

The power that captured my attention in my latest re-watch is her unique ability of chi-blocking. Before, I accepted this as a form of general martial arts that she had learned over time, as being connected to Azula would easily grant her access to higher levels of self defense training.

However, I then compare her abilities to Aang. Ty-Lee has the ability to temporarily remove someone’s bending, something that she calls “chi-blocking.”

If I recall correctly, the entire concept of Chi is that it’s spiritual energy that flows everywhere. Ty-Lee, most likely unaware of her ability, is literally energy bending.

Of course, this would be the case assuming that not only the Avatar can energy bend, along with confirmation that full removal of bending is only possible at a level of energy bending mastery with the power of the Avatar.

Ex) while toph is powerful, I doubt she could move tectonic plates and create a separate island like Kiyoshi did

Another thing that makes Ty-Lee’s “chi blocking” interesting to me is her canonical ability to see people’s auras. Because she is able to manipulate chi, she can go as far to **physically see** the chi (or energy) that surrounds people’s bodies.

Of course, it would be easy to brush off as a metaphor, or even just Ty-Lee being a bit kooky. However, the latest rewatch made me realize that she says it so matter-of-factly, as if she has been able to do this her entire life, as if this is her normal.

I also want to point out that her ability to see auras could be similar to how Toph is able to earth bends: they can feel and “see” the medium they are bending, thus making it easier for them to bend.

It could be explained that her ability to disable someone’s bending is just another form of her ability to disable someone’s use of their arm (see when she fights Sokka). However, those are genuine pressure points, and this method of fighting has been studied scientifically.

This is not at all like the method of temporarily disabling bending. There are no physical signs of this; no muscle weakness, atrophy, or numbness. All that happens is the loss of bending, which can be seen as well when Aang defeats Ozai.

Of course, for this to be true would also mean that bending is of another energy that would inevitably cause a deficit once removed, causing physical weakness.

Because Ty-Lee is not on the same power level of Aang, assuming that his power is what allows him to remove bending, she can only block chi. Of course, it is possible that Ty-Lee unknowingly has this ability and just never has the necessary situation to use it.

This would explain why Katara, only having her energy disconnected temporarily and not removed, would not experience any physical effects as there would not be an energy deficit.

What Would this Mean for Ty-Lee’s Character?

If Ty-Lee is an energy bender, it raises many questions of her origins that could be important to the overall writing of ATLA.

Although the children born of the previous Avatars only have been seen to bend what their original bending nation was, it could be possible that Ty-Lee inherited her energy bending from relation to previous Avatars.

Whether this is because she is related to a distant air nomad Avatar or even Roku (which could explain how she had the possibility of meeting Azula in the first place, as she could be of a noble family).

In the show, Aang faces every kind of bender, many of them being more advanced in skill than Aang. The threat of Ty-Lee’s potential energy bending would seem powerful and impossible to overcome. This makes Aang’s mastery of energy bending more satisfying!

This could also explain why Azula confront’s Ty-Lee in the beginning of season 2. Knowing of her ability, Azula would absolutely monopolize it in case it needs to be used on the Avatar. Azula could have gotten any skilled fighter to accompany her, and yet she chose Azula.

You may ask, “well then why is Mai there?” In my opinion, including Mai is just a method for Azula to manipulate Zuko (knowing of their romantic history) and use Mai’s presence as psychological warfare. Her skill, although apparent, is irrelevant to fighting in general. This is its own separate theory, though.

Is Ty-Lee the Only Energy Bender Seen in ATLA?

The more that I analyze the show, I think of how Ty-Lee is very connected with spirituality. When I observe other “spiritual” characters, I also think of Iroh.

It is important to note that Iroh was jaded for his entire life by the programming from the fire nation. Assuming that Iroh has only began his spiritual journey after his failure at Ba Sing Se, he has not put much time into practicing this.

Ty-Lee has spent her entire life fine tuning her skills, unlike Iroh.

I think that energy bending, unlike other bending methods, could be learned. Considering chi is constantly flowing and is everywhere, it is inherently more available than other types of bending.

While Iroh can’t bend energy, he is tapped into chi and spirituality in general. He seems to know things that others don’t, somehow being able to say the exact thing someone needs to hear.

This is something that Ty-Lee can also do. She is often needing to read emotions, and placates Azula when she is at her most stressed. This is basically the much unhealthier version of Iroh and Zuko’s relationship.

So while the level of energy bending shown from Ty-Lee is not matched by other spiritual characters, it does seem that it can be learned over time while others have a higher predisposition. If anything, I’d compare it to midi-chlorians allowing people to have a higher sensitivity to the Force.

As far as canon from the show alone goes, Ty-Lee seems to be self taught, the show implying that only circus training could teach her this fighting method. Color me not-convinced.

Note; I do believe that there are energy benders alone in LOK, but I haven’t seen the entire show as it didn’t do the same thing for me that ATLA did. I know it’s important to consider all sources, but this is what I have! Feel free to reblog with explanations/thoughts that correct anything in this post.

IG Model & Murder

I recently have been studying the rare Ketu-Saturn conjunction after meeting one of these 1996 natives. This conjunction takes place in the Chinese year of the Fire Rat. The Rats are the first of the twelve Animals that are represented in this astrological calendar. Rat is said to have won this honor of being First through villainous moves. Without Integrity. Although they are considered intelligent, I personally don’t fully trust Rats.

Now I did not know this Rat, nor he I - it was a very happenstantial (great word!) meeting with this Rat, yet he immediately spoke to me openly and with ease about stealing, his juvenile criminal endeavors and p0rn, all while smoking “white,” as he called it.

I of course had to do his chart 😂

Soon after this chance meeting I became reacquainted with the IG Only Fans Model & murder that took place a couple years back. Courtney Tailor in a raging fight with her boyfriend that ended his life. Idk but soon my brain was doing astrological connections and I started to realize she too was a 1996 Fire Rat Ketu-Saturn conjunct.

Again I had to do the chart.

I don’t have the birthday time so I calculated 3 charts (7am, 12 noon & 7pm) and chose the one that I feel is most succinct (interesting word!) Also there are many similarities between the three charts that there is a lot to take away with confidence.

Super interesting is the Moon-Venus conjunct in Rohini! This is where she got that IG Only Fans Model 2 Million Followers ability!

If this chart is correct and the Venus is in the 12th this would also mean an Exalted Venus. Venus here loves drugs & sex. Both of which are very much in play here. The Manic Pixie Dream Girl. The Free Spirit. Life is a Fantasy Land if only you let it. La Vie en Rose 🌹 However Venus in Pisces with her rose colored glasses can find herself involved with people who struggle with self esteem and/or ambition. It’s interesting if you study this case the relationship between Courtney and her boyfriend was toxic from both sides. This was not the first time she had stabbed him!! They were also tied up in a messy financial situation together with him working for her while she paid for the Very Expensive Miami Lux Apartment. I was also kind of shocked by the way she would so quickly throw him under the bus every time she looked guilty. It’s really a sad story.

Moon in 12th House of isolation, hospitals, prisons and loss.

Mercury in Krittika in 11th House is gains from online communication. But also cutting & critical words.

Sun in Aries in the 10th House of career.

What scares me honestly about this chart is the heavy Aries Fire energy coupled with the heavy emotional energy that comes from the Moon being in the Watery 12th House. That’s like being a walking Gandanta. In Chinese medicine this is Damp-Heat. A more difficult condition to cure because how do you treat it? With Hot or Cold medicine?

I also just noticed her Mars is in a Gandanta !

Anyway this an interesting time period to keep a study on. And I do want to say you cannot put a blanket statement on this time frame from just these two examples! I know this is Kali Yug and ‘blanket statements’ are widely used, but let me say it only shows a persons ignorance when they use ‘blanket statements’ to make any kind of point! Astrology is Math and a birthchart an Equation. You must also take into account an individual’s Spiritual IQ as much as their intellectual one.

The Ketu-Saturn conjunction is found in 12th House Pisces for these cohorts.

Chapter 69: Sundae Night

The Sun, the Moon, and All Our Stars

Summary and Details…

Previous Chapter Recap/Context: Sebastian is having a difficult time reconciling with the information Ominis shared during his Saturday evening visit. Ominis and Ruby, in their fifth year, had been the ones to turn Sebastian in, which set into motion the events that led to a life sentence in Azkaban. It's been a tough weekend in general for Sebastian. Kate has no idea how to help - it seems there is no way she can fix what happened. She gives Sebastian some space to cope on his own for the first half of the day. He mostly does so through tasks leading to physical and magical exhaustion. Eventually, a good meal leads to Sebastian perking up, though he still has no interest in discussing what he learned. He and Kate spend some time together in the evening, and when the sun has set, there is knocking at the door. Neither of them expected visitors, and they are both on guard as Sebastian approaches the door to see two figures behind it.

Pairing: 25-year-old, post-Azkaban Sebastian Sallow x 24-year-old Kate Mayflower (my OC), the assistant librarian at Hogwarts

Content warnings: In general, this is rated 18+, so minors should not read or interact with this story. Even though this is Chapter 69, there is no smut (it will have to wait for the next chapter!). This chapter features worries about a family's acceptance of a relationship, trying to impress others, and hiding information.

Chapter 69: Sundae Night

There is knocking again. Sebastian motions for Kate to safely remain seated away from the door.

Kate doesn’t listen, though, slowly rising to her feet. She realizes that she must fix her clothing, so she buttons her blouse again and ties the bow at her collar. She creeps over towards the fireplace, peering around the corner into the entryway. Just in case, she pats her skirt to feel for her wand like Sebastian did.

He opens the door a crack, peeking outside at the two figures to ascertain the situation. “Can I… help you?” he asks with suspicion, expecting the worst.

The two people at the door look at each other in confusion, then back at Sebastian.

“Erm… Who… Who are you?” a rather short woman with wide brown eyes asks, her tone baffled and wary all at once. She is in her 20s, dressed in a fashionable outfit - a white blouse with a silver bow, a gray jacket with silver trim, and a matching gray skirt. Her hair is tied into a loose bun, with a few stray wisps of hair framing her face. It’s blonde - so blonde, in fact, that it almost appears white. She gestures to the tall, stocky man with dark blonde hair at her side. He is dressed in a blue suit with a white collared shirt. “We… We’re here to see my sister…???” she slowly says, framing it like a question.

“Irene!” Kate immediately rushes forward, pushing Sebastian aside upon recognition of the woman’s voice.

He watches in surprise as Kate opens the door fully, embracing her younger sister while smiling at the man next to her. “Hi! What- what are you doing here?!”

“Well, we…” Irene chuckles as she breaks the embrace, glancing at Niles. “We wanted to end the weekend on a high note. I was craving ice cream, and we decided to apparate to Hogsmeade to treat ourselves to Honeydukes. I know it’s short notice, but… I reckoned we might as well stop by and see if you might like to join us.” She very obviously studies Sebastian, taking in his appearance and demeanor. “I didn’t mean to intrude, though. I wasn’t aware you had… company.”

“Oh, my goodness! Where are my manners?! Erm… Irene and Niles, this is Sebastian, my… um, my boyfriend. Sebastian, this is my sister, Irene Mayflower, and her fiance, Niles Sterling.” Kate grins widely.

Sebastian smiles, reaching out his hand to Irene. “Sebastian Sallow. It’s really nice to meet you.” He also shakes the blonde man’s hand, exchanging pleasantries.

Irene smirks at Kate, glancing between her and Sebastian, while their men are distracted, and Kate gives her a sisterly look that screams, “Shove it!”

They all stand there awkwardly for a moment before Kate finally says, “Well, come in, come in!”

As Irene and Niles step into the house, heading towards the living room, Kate grabs Sebastian’s hand, squeezing it in reassurance. “Calm down. They’ll love you,” she whispers discreetly.

Giving Sebastian a secret look, she attempts to communicate through just her eyes that she is feeling quite surprised but that it will all be okay. He squeezes her hand in return, trying to stay calm. This is certainly not how he expected to end a rather tumultuous weekend. He reminds himself to be charming and on his best behavior. This is a rare chance to impress Kate’s family members - and what’s more, not having any notice means he didn’t have any time to panic in advance… Perhaps this is actually a blessing.

“Ah, well, as you can see, my cottage was unprepared for guests,” Kate tells them, picking up their discarded books from earlier. “I have yet to buy another couch. I do have enough seats in the kitchen, though. Shall we?” She gestures towards the open doorway.

Irene observes their surroundings with a small smile. “I always forget how… cozy your home is. It’s so charming.”

Kate has to stop herself from rolling her eyes, maintaining her cheerful countenance. “Well, we don’t all want to clean ten unused rooms, do we now?”

Niles coughs, stifling a laugh as they sit at the kitchen table.

“May I offer refreshments? Tea, cider, wine…?”

They politely decline, shaking their heads. Sebastian catches himself and sits up straighter.

“Thank you, but we’re really here just for ice cream,” Irene explains with a cheeky expression.

Kate giggles. “With anyone else, I would be surprised, but I can’t say I am shocked that you would come all this way just for a sundae.”

“Your family… and their ice cream addiction,” Niles mutters with a laugh.

Kate reaches for Sebastian’s hand under the table. She at first touches his leg, and he flinches. He’s tense and anxious but clearly trying to mask it. She gently intertwines their fingers, and he squeezes her hand in return.

Sebastian smiles with a twinkle in his eye, addressing Irene playfully. “So, you must like Honeydukes a lot. Is it really an addiction… or more of an exaggeration?”

Irene grins, shrugging. “It’s honestly not an exaggeration. Our family loves ice cream. And lucky for me, so does Niles.” She chuckles. “How about you, Sebastian?”

“I wouldn’t say I am… addicted, but I do have a soft spot for ice cream,” he replies. “I mean, I knew Kate liked ice cream, but I didn’t realize how deep that love might run. I guess I have some competition.” He smirks at his girlfriend.

Kate gives him a lopsided smile back, shaking her head. “Well… Shall we join them? I’d love to go to Honeydukes.”

“Absolutely, as long as that’s alright by both of you,” he says to Irene and Niles.

“Of course!” Irene answers. “I must admit I was not expecting to meet you so soon, Sebastian, but… the more the merrier!” She pauses. “You know, you do look familiar to me somehow. I just can’t place it, though.”

Sebastian raises his eyebrows. “I don’t think I’ve ever met you before, but who knows?”

Truly, he does not recognize Irene, but he knows it’s very possible that she might recognize him. He is fully aware that Irene was once a Slytherin, just like him. Though she would have been much younger - three years below him, they might have walked past each other countless times. Perhaps she had cheered as he blasted a Bludger towards the opposing team. Maybe she had once overheard Ominis and Ruby arguing with him at their table in the Great Hall. Did Irene observe as he was shamefully led out of the common room during his expulsion?

Really, who knew?

Kate gives him a worried look, clearly on the same wavelength. This wouldn’t be a great time for Irene - or Niles, for that matter - to realize Sebastian was once a fellow student who never graduated.

“Regardless, it’s settled - shall we all walk to Honeydukes?” Kate jumps in, hoping to move on from the idea of recognition.

Everyone agrees, and they quickly head out the door and begin their stroll into Hogsmeade, using their wands to light the way. Leading, Irene holds on to Niles’ arm, and Kate and Sebastian follow, tightly holding hands.

“So what is everyone’s favorite flavor?” Sebastian asks, trying to stir up conversation.

The small talk about ice cream seems to melt some of Sebastian’s anxiety. As they stroll closer to town, Kate asks some questions that she knows will help her boyfriend to get to know them better.

“How is the wedding planning coming along? There’s only a couple of months to go…”

Irene sighs. "We're looking forward to it, but… we just kind of want it over with. You know we don't like to be on display in front of so many people, even if it's mostly family. It gives us a lot of anxiety." Niles bobs his head in agreement. Irene turns to Sebastian, explaining, "I don't know how much you know yet, but our family is huge. Unfortunately, that means the wedding will also be huge."

“How big are we talking, if you don’t mind me asking?” Sebastian inquires. “Do you have an estimate?”

“About 200 people,” she replies, almost sounding downtrodden. “Niles also has a large family. Both of our families, plus friends… it’s just… a lot.”

He is taken aback. “How do you even… organize an event for so many people? I mean, I have only been to one wedding, and it was... a small affair...” He looks a little confused yet fascinated by the alien idea of such a large wedding. Kate wonders if it’s sunk in that their wedding will likely be the same.

Irene laughs. “With a lot of help! Niles' mother and our mother,” she says, gesturing towards Kate, “have given so much of their time.”

Niles glances curiously at Sebastian. “You've only been to one wedding in your life? That's surprising. You must not have a large family.”

A flash of sadness appears on his face, but he attempts to shake it off quickly. “No, my family is… Well, both of my parents passed away when I was young. The wedding I attended wasn’t even a family affair - it was a neighbor’s… and it was quite simple.”

Kate jumps in, attempting to rescue him. “I’ve… um, I’ve asked Sebastian to be my date to your wedding. We both look forward to attending.”

Sebastian gazes at his girlfriend thankfully. “Yes, it’s an honor to have been asked.”

“Sebastian does not have experience at all with a huge family like ours. It will be a trial by fire.” Kate laughs. “Niles, do you have any advice for Sebastian about meeting our family? It wasn't long ago that you were in his shoes.”

They cross the stone bridge leading into Hogsmeade, whispering, “Nox” to their wands. All of the streetlamps are illuminated, guiding their way forward. Most of the shops are closed, so it’s very clear from the lights which restaurants or pubs are open late.

Niles thinks for a moment before speaking. “I would say it's best to just be friendly and polite... Try to be involved within the conversations... You know, listen, ask questions…” He gives Sebastian a small smile. “It wasn't easy for me at first either. I met the whole family on Christmas Eve, and it was an exciting event. Absolutely beautiful, perfect in every way… if not for my personal terror of needing to impress everyone. But... I got to know the Mayflowers eventually... and they are very nice people.”

Kate nods. “I've told Sebastian as much, Niles." She pauses. “You know, I think it's quite fortuitous that both of you surprised us tonight. It's always nice to get to know people in smaller settings.”

“Yes - I appreciate meeting you this way. Not having to talk to everyone right at once is a little less overwhelming,” Sebastian agrees.

“I think the only overwhelming thing here tonight,” Kate says with a cheeky grin, “is deciding what kind of ice cream to get!” She stops walking, as they have reached Honeydukes. They all walk inside and head to the ice cream counter.

While Irene and Niles are ordering ahead of them, Kate pulls Sebastian aside to check in with him covertly. "This was… quite a surprise for them to show up. Are you doing okay? Do you need anything?"

“I’m fine,” Sebastian replies in a hushed tone, glancing their way. “I was caught off guard when your sister said she felt like she recognized me, though.”

“Hmmm. Personally, I wouldn’t read too much into it. You were both in Slytherin, so your paths probably crossed at some point. She doesn’t seem to have any solid details, especially ones that might make her look at you in a negative light,” Kate acknowledges. She smiles at him. “I think you’re doing very well, Bash. I’m not sure how long they plan to stay tonight, but if you’re still having a good time when we leave Honeydukes, we could keep it going. We could head to the Three Broomsticks for a drink or return to the cottage to play a game or something.” She kisses him on the cheek. “I’m going to leave that up to you, though. There is absolutely no pressure, and they might want to get home anyway. I guess let’s see where tonight takes us.”

Sebastian nods. “I am having a nice time so far.”

“Good!” Kate grins. “Well, let’s hope it continues. Just keep this in mind - they are your future brother and sister in law,” she mentions pointedly. “We’ll be together often.”

His eyebrows raise - everything has happened so suddenly that the thought hadn’t even crossed his mind yet.

“Hey, we’re going to find a table outside,” Niles calls out, holding the door open for Irene. “See you out there.”

“Well, I guess we had better order before they wonder what is going on,” Kate suggests. She kisses his cheek again, lingering. “I mean it when I say this is going well. I love you.”

“I love you, too, sunshine.” Sebastian watches the other couple in a different light as they exit the shop.

A few minutes later, they walk out of the shop with their ice cream, finding Irene and Niles waving from a nearby table.

“Well, well, well - look at that. Irene has good taste,” Kate says with a laugh, staring at her choice of dessert.

The sisters have ordered the exact same item - a honey and cinnamon sundae. Niles chuckles, sipping a chocolate milkshake. Sebastian sits down slowly, carefully placing his hot fudge sundae on the table.

“So, how is work these days?” Kate inquires, then turns to her boyfriend. “They’re both Healers at St. Mungo’s - I’m not sure if you remember me telling you that.”

“Busy. But… it’s always busy,” Niles replies. To Sebastian, he adds, “I work in the Poisoning Department, and Irene is a floater - she fills in wherever necessary. That’s where we met - at work.”

“That’s impressive,” Sebastian notes, in regards to Irene’s job. “You must be a jack of all trades.” He speaks to Niles. “And what is it like to work in the Poisoning Department?”

“Well, there’s never a dull day, that’s for sure,” he responds with a laugh, then glances around to make sure no one is listening. “Keep this between us, but…” He leans in and speaks more quietly. “Recently, we had two patients who overdosed on Amortentia. Apparently, they had just wanted to, uh… experiment a little, but taking so much - an entire bottle each - was a very poor choice. They couldn’t keep their hands, mouths, and even… other body parts off of each other. We eventually had to lock them in separate rooms with them screaming out of frustration.”

Sebastian chuckles, seeing the humor in the situation, but he’s fascinated nonetheless. “I’ve read accounts of people who have had bad effects from Amortentia - some of them quite embarrassing - but how interesting to actually see that. Were you able to at least talk to them or potentially calm down the effects of the potion? Or was it just too late?”

“Uh, far too late,” Niles answers in a funny tone.

“That must have been awkward,” Kate adds.

“Very.”

Irene shakes her head. “Just another day at St. Mungo’s…” she trails off with a laugh.

An owl swoops overhead on its way to the Hogsmeade Owl Post, screeching loudly out of nowhere. Kate makes a face at it.

Just as Sebastian takes a bite of his sundae, Irene asks, “So… what do you do for work, Sebastian?”

Kate’s eyes quickly focus on him. “His work is pretty highly classified…” She hesitates to say more, not wanting to lead to any questions of why he does the work he does…

Clearing his throat first, Sebastian chooses his words carefully. “If you must know, I work for the Ministry, but it is not something I am permitted to disclose for safety reasons. That’s all I can really say. I’m sorry to be so vague.”

Irene and Niles glance at each other, surprised and interested in the mystery.

“I will admit that it is a dangerous job that worries me a lot,” Kate mentions. “We are hoping that Sebastian can wrap up a project soon and be able to pursue a different line of work. He’s… a man of many talents.” She smiles proudly at her boyfriend. “Quite the scholar and explorer.” To add more intrigue, she adds, “Professor Weasley at Hogwarts has a new collection of Dark and dangerous artifacts for the Restricted Section of the library. Sebastian is going to handle the curation because of his special skills while I do some summer work. We might be working together a little bit every now and then.”

Sebastian smiles outwardly. While he is pleased with Kate’s compliments, he recognizes that she is keeping everything about his job secret. They could have revealed that he works for the Department of Magical Law Enforcement or said that he is an Auror, but Kate purposefully chose to stay quiet. He thinks back to when Kate first told him about her family members - that her mother and sister were adept at sniffing out secrets and finding information - true Slytherins. Even mentioning the department would reveal a clue that might damage his reputation with the Mayflowers before Kate has a chance to explain. Inevitably, they will have to reveal the truth about Sebastian’s work. For now, this is a bandage, and someday, the wound will be wide open.

But today is not that day.

“Oh, Professor Weasley!” Irene exclaims without pressing further, allowing Sebastian to relax again. “How terribly I miss Hogwarts! Kate, you’re so lucky to work there!” She grins at her fiance. “Wouldn’t it be fun to work in the school hospital wing?”

Kate huffs out a laugh. “No, thank you. Nurse Blainey is a busy woman, and I do not envy her work at all. I’ve had to escort students there… and she doesn’t take any pity on the kids. It’s all tough love.”

“That’s for sure. Blainey is not a woman to be messed with,” Sebastian agrees. “I remember visiting the hospital wing from time to time - mostly for Quidditch injuries, but sometimes for other incidents. She always tells it like it is. Sugar coating isn’t for a school nurse.”

Niles looks at Sebastian. “So, you must have gone to Hogwarts as well. What house were you in?”

“Yes. I was in Slytherin. How about you?”

Irene and Niles turn to each other and giggle. Irene whispers excitedly, “Another pair like us!”

Niles replies, “I was in Hufflepuff, and Irene was in Slytherin.”

“Interesting,” Sebastian says, trying to imagine them younger, clad in their house robes.

“Oh!” Irene’s eyes widen. “You and I were both in Slytherin, Sebastian - that must be why you look familiar to me.”

Kate glances at Sebastian and nods - her theory has been proven.

“You must mean the great house of Slytherin,” Sebastian corrects with a grin.

Kate narrows her eyes and nudges Niles. “Not greater than Hufflepuff.” She laughs playfully.

Niles shrugs. “Nah, Slytherin is greater. Hufflepuff has some wonderful qualities, but to say that? I wouldn’t be so bold.”

“Niles! You traitor! Helga Hufflepuff will grow restless in her tomb!” Kate protests incredulously. “How could you say that?!”

“Slytherin may be greater, but Hufflepuff is nicer.” Niles shrugs again.

Kate is a little appeased but still looks annoyed.

Sebastian chuckles along with Irene. “Niles, you make a good point. I’d never say that Slytherin is nicer. We certainly are not.”

“Niles is far too kind and diplomatic for his own good,” Kate mutters.

“You know, Niles, I can tell you’re an intelligent man. You know the right thing to say and do not try to provoke further conflict,” Sebastian points out kindly.

Niles grins, seemingly pleased with the compliment. “That’s the beauty of Hufflepuff - is it not?”

Kate has to agree and crack a smile at that. “Peace at all costs!”

Everyone takes a moment to eat more of their dessert. Though the ice cream is magical, charmed to stay cold, it is finally beginning to melt. Kate revels in the sweetness of the honey intermingling with the spicy cinnamon.

Irene has been quiet for a while, studying Sebastian, and she finally speaks up. “You know, when I was sorted into Slytherin all those years ago, I remember very clearly two older boys telling all of the first years a lie - that if we were to look through the underwater windows long enough that we could find mermaids. I sat by the windows for a very, very long time that year, positively determined to spot one…” She narrows her eyes at him. “Does that sound familiar to you at all, Sebastian?”

With an apologetic smile, Sebastian replies cheekily, “Maybe…”

Kate’s mouth drops. “Bash! Did you and Ominis tell that to the first years every term?!”

He can’t help but laugh. “Yeah… it was our little tradition. We loved pranking the new students. When they would get frustrated, of course unable to see the mermaids, Ominis would tell them that they were at the wrong window…”

Kate cracks up. “A man after my own heart… I would have done the exact same!”

She looks admiringly at Sebastian, staring deeply into his eyes, and their gaze lingers a little too long. Without thinking, she leans in, instinctively kissing Sebastian’s cheek. Immediately, she realizes her mistake - doing this in front of guests is rather taboo. Kate closes her eyes, internally cringing. Irene and Niles smirk at each other while Sebastian’s face slowly turns pink.

“So, how did you two meet?” Niles finally asks.

Bashfully, Kate replies, “Oh, goodness… We met on my birthday, in the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley. Sebastian caught my eye, and… well, the rest is history.” Kate takes his hand. “We haven’t known each other all that long, but… we have a good feeling about where things are going.”

Sebastian fondly looks at her and nods. “Yes, it’s true that we’ve only known each other for about a month, but… I do believe it’s true love. What I feel for Kate… it’s deep… and so different from anything I’ve ever experienced.”

Kate goes crimson, her mouth dropping open. Irene’s eyes dart her way.

Sebastian cannot contain his smile, and his eyes go soft when he gazes at his girlfriend. He notices how embarrassed she seems, though, and he asks, “Did… Did I say too much?”

Irene and Niles exchange glances again, grinning at each other, clearly enjoying seeing Kate flustered.

“It’s… Erm, it’s okay, Sebastian. I guess they were bound to find out sooner than later,” Kate replies quietly, still blushing fiercely. To support him, she adds, “It’s… true. We’re very much in love. I won’t deny it.”

Sebastian’s heart soars. To hear her admitting it to others makes it feel so much more meaningful and real.

“Well,” Kate says after a moment, trying to quickly change the subject, “I’m all finished with my sundae, and… it looks like all of us are done eating.”

Standing up, Sebastian offers to clean up. He gathers all of the sundae dishes and the milkshake cup, carrying them inside. Kate braces herself, expecting Irene to say something snarky to her, but she doesn’t. It’s quiet for a while.

“He’s nice,” Irene finally tells Kate. She opens her mouth to say more, but Sebastian quickly pops back outside. As he approaches the table, Niles shows Irene his pocket watch. She gasps. “Oh, it’s getting late - it’s almost ten! We really must get going - we both have to work tomorrow.”

Kate nods, standing. She embraces her sister and Niles. “Don’t be strangers. And Irene, I know I’ll see you Thursday.”

Sebastian isn’t sure what to do, so he copies Kate, hugging the visitors. “I hope we can all meet again soon.”

Niles and Irene wave cheerfully, then apparate to their home in London.

The sky is clear, and the moon is shining brightly. Kate turns to Sebastian, smiling. She caresses his face and pulls him close for a gentle kiss.

“I love you,” she whispers affectionately, melting into Sebastian as he reaches out to hold her. “Let’s go home.”
