Black History Month Resource:
Matthew Alexander Henson "A Negro Explorer at the North Pole" (1912)
In recognition of Black History Month (USA), I’ll be sharing a series of links to mostly free resources involving African-American history/literature/art. Hope you enjoy.
Matthew Alexander Henson (1866-1955) was an explorer best known for his participation in the voyages to the Arctic Circle led by Robert Peary. Their team claimed to have reached the geographic North Pole in 1909. In this book, Henson details the process of the 1908-1909 expedition. I've added it to my own "to read" list.
