My random thoughts on the HL character boy's attributes. ✨💖
──✧❅✦❅✧───❅••❅───✧❅✦❅✧──
GARRETH: Plays baseball. Carries his keys on a lanyard in his pocket. Wears sunglasses on top of a hat. Doesn't go shopping, instead orders all his stuff off the brand websites. Drives a jeep Wrangler. Has a blue heeler naked Duke. Listens to bands like Black Label Society, Godsmack, Chevelle. Is an absolute gentleman to MC, but occasionally rips savage comebacks at them.
SEBASTIAN: Wears hoodies and basketball shorts with socks and slides. Always has his hands in his pockets. Definitely had a tinder at one point. Has been in handcuffs at one point. Smokes weed. Visits hole in the wall food joints and coffee shops. Drives a Mazda hatchback. Listens to Kings of Leon, Artic Monkey's, Billy Idol. Buys MC "sexy presents." Plays the PlayStation. Dances with MC in the kitchen.
OMINIS: Wears soft clothing and sweatpants most of the time when he's at home. Buys Craft coffee and Tea. Occasionally brings MC fancy gifts. Likes wearing expensive clothes when he takes MC out on a date to a fancy place. Enjoys a nice glass of brandy on occasion. Wears expensive colonge. If he could drive he'd own a black Bentley. Enjoys audio books. Listens to Angus & Julia Stone, Lofi, The Lumineers. Likes watching (listening to) Movies on the couch with MC.
LEANDER: Talks shit about Sebastian's clothes but buys the same thing in a different color. Likes going to music festivals. Loves Pie. Likes taking MC to the theater, but laughs and chews the popcorn with his mouth open. Hardly ever compliments the other boys. Likes English tea only and won't drink it sweet. Likes his coffee with foam. Likes beer on tap. Plays Rugby. Listens to Macklemore, Beatles, Linkin Park. Drives a Mustang. Likes going to popular restaurants.
AMIT: Wears polo's and Khaki's. Doesn't like crowds. Always hits MC with random scientific facts. Drinks black iced coffee. Likes EDM music. Listens to David Guetta, Yellow Claw, Akon. Takes MC over to his parents house frequently to eat dinner. Compliments MC everyday, even if they look like shit. Likes watching reaction videos on YouTube. Has a pet bird named Chidiya. Teaches MC how to make his cultural food. Drives a Kia Soul. Won't be "sexy" with MC until he's married.

Two in the Boat
Silence. A heavy, hopeless silence after such an innocent proposal. Just a proposal! As it is usual while Ominis is gathering the unpleasant thought in his mind. Getting ready to deny with all his stubbornness.
She’s used to it. This sweet and tough indecision, the frowning eyebrows, cracking voice. At the same time, the fierce desire to act and a thousand thoughts about obstacles on the way are reflected in the blind turquoise mirrors of his eyes, in which she so often sees her own face... He does not trust, does not believe in the good, as always, but he would like to. She knows he would like.
The light silky voice slowly breaks the silence
“I am not sure… This is hopeless, and you are aware of it yourself. Not because of you or me or whatever is happening between us, not in a second. If there was not such danger and hazard for you, I’d… You always knew that it was hopeless, don’t you? We have no future if we do this, we better stay as secret as we are. Whatever we could decide, they shall know. They shall pursue us, and I am afraid of the worst. My family would not touch me, I suppose, not in the way they would do with you, and I have no wish to even imagine… I wish no harm to you, my love, and they would never approve this union in this world.”
His family... Always a pain in the... Arlene doesn't care, she'd make sure no one gets near them, and she knows that with Ominis, the best strategy is patience, no fuss, confidence and the best arguments. And she should have them. And she has them. His “no” never stops her, just because she knows that his “no” comes from fears, traumas and uncertainty, not from unwillingness.
It's all in the intonation, the trembling of the words, when Irving knows for sure, he would like it very much, but... But, but, but. Fears, concerns, traumas, especially when it comes to everything that revolves around the mention of the word Gaunt.
Her hand lazily and calmly pulls the tea cup away. She stands up and stretches her limbs.
“In this world, huh? Then let us go beyond one.”
The bewilderment on his face. He frowns but doesn't stop her. Ominis has known for a long time that this one always has crazy ideas. The one mind that spines clockwise. Like that one clock on the Celestial door. His crazy woman with twisted mind.
The Irish continues softly. Calm, confident, practical to the bone. Nothing to it, that what she always says.
“We shall leave the world. The sea is something different, the stage in between realms… We shall take a ship and leave the shores, nobody ever shall find us there. It is only three days until my captain's initiation and launching of the Silver Siren… And the captain with certain license which I intend to gain in London soon... Can marry anyone on his ship. Including himself or herself.”
A few slow steps to his side. Gaunt does not move, slowly blinking and turning his face to the side of the sounds.
“That’s…”
“I know. Not really official, complicated... But the sea has its own law. The waves and sunset would be witnesses. Maybe some dolphins. And the ship's log. Whoever argues with that, they should say it to me.”
She talks too much. Annoying, fast, but somehow sweet. Captain’s tone she is already trained with so well, and that he actually somehow likes. She always try to mend things that are perhaps even not broken. Always thinking ahead, always inventing a different way to get something or get away with something. He hears her stepping forward. Close enough to touch, to grab, to… shut up.
“No, that’s…”
“Please… There should be the way. Until you think I should make it to Admiral with bigger powers, but that shall take me decades and we shall be aged… Or you think they could spot us somewhere in the middle of the deep seas? Insane. Besides, you know that no one matches me on the sea with the fast sailing, and if they try…”
Gaunt smirks and presses his finger to the plump crimson lips that speak so much. Not long way to go and he already perfectly knows the length of his hand he should reach. She is so small… And he knows how does that work. Ah, silence. Small trembling of the tiny trained body he knows so well. His wild Irish may be full of that unstoppable energy, but Ominis is pretty aware of his own powers over this one. One gesture and she’s done.
“No. That is… perfect. “
︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶
The waves break peacefully against the white side of a small ship. It has dropped anchor somewhere in the open sea and is now lazily rocking from side to side, illuminated by the rays of the setting sun. A little more and night will come, billions of stars scattered across the dark canvas, like a perfect blueprint.
On the deck of a ship, two people stand, their faces directed in the same direction. Nothing fancy. A simple white outfit on the young woman, made of the soft fabric, and a dark green formal suit on the young man. No special decorations, no noisy guests, no fireworks, no flowers, no even best friends.
Two runaways. Homeless, no roots. Denied families, left homes, forgotten names. Two flowing green rivers, blending in one. Two lonely souls, rushing through the space, hand in hand from now on. No one would know where did they go. Perhaps, they would not ever come back to the lands they’ve left again…
Just the sea, the sunset and the wind.
And the Promise.
︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶
“In every world, in every shadow of existence.
In this one and another one, in life and death, in happiness and sorrows.
In joy, in pain, in light and dark. In inlness and the health.
In this life and beyond, in each and every realm we enter, shall we always meet again…
Blind and seeing, mad and sane, in love or hate,
In any form of being, in any state of mind, I swear to love you, to protect you and to care for you.”
“I shall always be with you.”

Chapter 65: Irises and Yellow Roses
The Sun, the Moon, and All Our Stars
Tumblr media
Summary and Details…
Previous Chapter Recap/Context: Everyone has left the Three Broomsticks to give Sebastian and Ominis some privacy to catch up on their own. Ominis explained how he and Anne fell in love, what their marriage was like, and how her health greatly improved over the years. He then recounted the events preceding her sudden death. Anne had become determined to have children to continue the Sallow family line; she didn't wish for it to end in tragedy. Deliberately going against Ominis' wishes, she stopped taking her contraceptive potion on purpose, which resulted in pregnancy. Close to the twins' due date, Anne had a random bout of illness, but they considered it fairly normal and unconcerning, based on her symptoms, and she stubbornly refused to see a Healer. The next morning, Ominis woke up to find her dead beside him. In this chapter, Ominis continues the story and later, Sebastian returns home.
Pairing: 25-year-old, post-Azkaban Sebastian Sallow x 24-year-old Kate Mayflower (my OC), the assistant librarian at Hogwarts
Art Credit: the very talented @giselsann-opencommissions 💛
Content warnings: In general, this is rated 18+, so minors should not read or interact with this story, but this chapter really has nothing I would consider triggering.
The full chapter is available below the cut; it can also be found on AO3 (link is posted below). Please leave some feedback if possible, especially if you like what you read! 🥰
Chapter 65: Irises and Yellow Roses
“Ominis…” Sebastian murmurs, noticing his watery eyes.
“The coroner said that Anne had… experienced a stroke. That she had likely been suffering from something called toxemia,” the blonde man continues somberly. “It supposedly happens to many pregnant women, especially to those pregnant with multiples, and is difficult to detect. We just… thought the symptoms were normal. We were so used to her having bouts of illness like that.” He pauses, wiping at his eyes. “We didn’t realize the severity.”
Sebastian works his jaw. He cannot fathom how something so… mundane could have finished her off, after all she had suffered through. Anne’s refusal to see a Healer was infuriating - and so like her, but he understands that they could never have imagined her suddenly dying overnight with those symptoms. Then, he considers Ominis’ experience.
Waking up to find the love of his life dead without warning.
Expecting to raise a family, only to end up completely alone.
All hopes and dreams dashed.
Sebastian doesn’t even know what to say. He sits quietly, lost in his own pain, as he watches his old friend, his brother-in-law, cry.
“I should have insisted she go to St. Mungo’s,” Ominis mumbles dejectedly. “I want to- to take it all back. Reverse it all. It… it hurts so badly. I’ve lost… everything.”
Carefully choosing his words, Sebastian finally replies, “I understand. My situation… was never the same as yours… but I understand the feeling.” He reaches out to place a handkerchief in Ominis’ hand. “It’s indescribably… horrific. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. For many years, I wasn’t even sure why I was alive… or that life was even worth living.”
Ominis uses the cloth to dry his cheeks.
“I know this may sound impossible to you right now,” Sebastian continues, “but… things can change. Your life isn’t over. Try to find a reason to go on. The future is… open. It doesn’t have to be miserable forever. Honor Anne…” He trails off, fearful he might only upset Ominis further. How would one even possibly provide comfort in this situation? Sebastian stares at the floor. “Ominis… I want you to know that you aren’t alone. We’re friends, and now, we’re family… I promise - I will help you in any way I can. It’s what Anne would have wanted.”
When Sebastian returns to the cottage that night, he’s exhausted.
Kate kindly left a few candles burning for him, and he stumbles towards the bedroom to find her sitting up and reading in bed by candlelight. Her eyes take him in as he wanders in wordlessly. He undresses slowly, and she waits patiently for him to join her.
Sebastian lets out a sigh as he settles, his head in Kate’s lap. She runs her fingers through his hair, silent for a long while.
Kissing the top of his head sweetly, her lips lingering, she whispers, “Would you like to talk about it?”
He shakes his head, no.
“That’s fine,” she soothingly murmurs. “Let’s go to sleep, love.”
They readjust, and for once, Kate spoons Sebastian. She can tell that he is attempting to hold back tears, but his emotions quickly consume him, and she can feel his stomach contracting as he sobs.
It breaks her heart, and she wishes she could take away whatever pain he’s experiencing. All she can do is hold him tight. This distress keeps her awake until she can hear him breathing deeply, finally asleep.
“I love you,” she whispers, even though he won’t hear.
Kate wakes early the next morning to the sound of Sebastian’s light snoring.
Wishing for him to get much more rest, Kate carefully slips away towards her side of the bed, placing a pillow where her body had been curled against him. She slowly lifts herself up, trying to keep the bed from creaking too loudly. She slips on her deep green, silken robe and gingerly pads across the room to escape into the hallway.
She decides to start breakfast, trying to determine what type of food might be best after last night’s excitement. Kate wonders if Sebastian may have a hangover; she determines that it would be best for him to have a hearty breakfast to soak up the alcohol and replenish his hunger.
When she is just about finished with cooking, she hears footsteps in the hallway. The sound disappears as he closes the bathroom door. Quickly, she plates everything and sets the table.
Sebastian finally wanders into the kitchen a few minutes later, yawning, donning only pyjama trousers. His eyes grow large when he sees that breakfast is completely ready.
“Good morning, darling,” Kate cheerily says in a sing-song voice.
“Good morning, sweetheart,” he echoes in a somewhat groggy tone.
“Sit,” she offers, motioning towards the chair he usually takes. “I’ve made breakfast.”
Sebastian gladly plops down, surveying the offerings.
“I’ve made oatmeal with cinnamon, pecans, apples, and dried cranberries,” she explains. “Breakfast tea is ready. I’ve fried up some tomatoes and sausages. There’s also a bowl of fresh strawberries and blueberries - I’ve just washed them.” She smiles. “But if there is anything else you desire, just say the word. I mean to please you.”
“Gods, no. I already feel spoiled,” he answers gratefully. He lifts her hand, kissing it. “You’re… you’re bloody perfect, Kate. This is incredibly considerate. I love you so much.”
She giggles in response. “And I love you.”
As they tuck into the food, Kate is surprised to hear that Sebastian is not hungover.
He tells Kate everything about his private visit with Ominis. She listens avidly, asking several questions to which Sebastian does not yet know all of the answers.
When he reaches the part in which he and Ominis said goodbye, he hesitantly says, “I need to tell you something. I hope you aren’t angry with me that I’ve not given you much notice, but…” He looks into her blue eyes. “I invited Ominis over for dinner tonight.”
Kate slowly nods, and Sebastian immediately assumes that she is upset. He quickly adds, “You don’t have to cook. I can order a meal, cook something up myself, or just change the plans and go out to dinner in Hogsmeade. And I’ll do everything to prepare the cottage for the evening. Sorry… It’s just… When we went our separate ways, I didn’t feel like we had fully caught up.”
“It’s alright,” Kate replies. “I don’t mind hosting. I don’t mind cooking, either. But yes, you will need to help quite a lot. Perhaps you can help out a bit in the kitchen… and I’ll certainly need you to do some work around the house.” She pauses. “Next time, I would appreciate more notice, though.”
“Of course.” He kisses her cheek. “Thank you.”
Kate’s mind begins to run through the ingredients she has on hand and what might be impressive enough to make for a dinner guest. Knowing that Ominis is blind actually makes her a bit more nervous. She’s read before that when someone loses their eyesight, all other senses are heightened. This means her cooking will need to be especially flavorful. She will need to pull out all the stops.
Ultimately, Ominis will be her brother-in-law, and she aspires more than anything to win his friendship.
Nothing is more important to Kate than family, and Ominis is the only other remaining member of the Sallows. This dinner could hopefully solidify a renewed relationship between Sebastian and Ominis and encourage them to get together more frequently.
Sebastian needs that.
“Well, we’ll need to get to work right away,” Kate says decisively, standing up. “Come on, let’s get dressed.”
Sebastian pouts as he nuzzles his face between Kate’s soft breasts, barely covered by her thin robe. “Do we have to? Do you have to?”
“Sebastian.” She gives him a chastising look. “You’re the one that sprung this on me…”
“Oh, fine,” he mutters with a smirk, allowing himself to be helped up from the table.
The houseplants have all been watered, and windows are open to let in the fresh summer air. Sebastian has tidied up the living room and bathroom, and Kate has busied herself with baking a pie, using preserved apple pie filling. She places it near the window to cool.
“Sebastian!” she calls outside, “Will you be finished soon? I really need those vegetables.”
“Coming,” he shouts back.
Moments later, the front door swings open, and Sebastian enters, carrying a basket filled with freshly harvested vegetables.
“I could be wrong, but I didn’t think the peas looked ready yet,” he informs her. “But I have everything else you requested - the potatoes, carrots, and asparagus.”
“Alright.” She takes the basket from him, inspecting the garden’s yield.
Then, Sebastian reveals a bouquet of flowers he had been hiding behind his back. Kate gasps as she accepts the yellow roses and purple irises, inhaling their scent.
“Lovely,” Kate hums. “Just lovely.”
“I almost cut some of the peonies,” Sebastian mentions, “but these were also ready… and their symbolism… it’s meaningful for tonight.”
Kate nods. “Hmm… the irises… they’re…” Her nose scrunches. “I’m afraid I’ve forgotten. Let me take a look in my book.”
He stops her. “They symbolize hope, faith, and trust in friendship. And the yellow roses - they’re optimism and joy in friendship.”
Kate gives him a lopsided smile. “My clever Seb.”
She turns around, strolling into the kitchen to find a vase. He follows her like a puppy.
“The pie smells fantastic,” Sebastian murmurs as she fills a vase with water. “I wish I could steal a piece right now.”
Kate smiles, carefully arranging the flowers in the vase. “You’ll just have to wait, dear.”
He pulls her hips forward, places his hands on her arms, and leans in with a mischievous grin. “You know patience is not my strong suit.” He kisses her cheek and eyes her up and down. She’s wearing a darker yellow dress, a rather simple one, under a cream-colored, frilly smock. Her hair is half-up, half-down; delicate white flowers are woven into a braid secured around the back of her head. “You look very pretty.”
She goes pink, secretly delighted by the compliment. “I know Ominis can’t see, but I still want to at least look… decent.”
They kiss, and the scent of her floral perfume envelops him in its sweetness.
“You smell like a dream,” Sebastian whispers in her ear. “Flowers and honey… vanilla and cinnamon… so sweet.”
He picks her up, placing her on the counter and going in for more kisses. She gives in, and their lips move together languidly. After a minute, the kisses begin to feel more insistent, and Kate finally pulls back, giggling. She pushes him away playfully, sliding off to stand on her own two feet.
“Alright, Romeo. We have work to do,” she teases him, a smile tugging at her lips.
Kate puts Sebastian to work, asking him to wash the freshly harvested vegetables as she greases and flours a bread pan. She takes a cloth off the top of a bowl, revealing fragrant dough that had been left to rise, which she puts in the pan and then the oven.
Eventually, the two stand side by side to cut the carrots and potatoes. Laughter fills the kitchen as they take turns feeding each other small scraps.
Tumblr media
Sebastian stares at Kate for a long time, his eyes filled with deep affection. “Kate…”
“What is it?”
“I… I’m so lucky,” he finishes. “Sometimes I really cannot believe I’m here with you…”
Kate smiles back at him. “You are. You’re home, my love.”

Boggart: Internal
Defense Against the Dark Arts: Learning how to counter a boggart is taught within a Fifth-year's first semester. Yet when Genevieve is required to face it again for her exams, it seems that her fears have taken a new form.
(A/N: Genevieve Myra Moxie is an original character and MC stand-in of mine for the game and its storyline.)
Tumblr media
A boggart is a non-being, deemed harmless by the textbooks. Harmless, it claims, as if psychological damage has the worth of that of a paper cut's. Bitter as she can be, in truth, Genevieve knows that her fears are not suited for her kind — for her classmates who dread spiders and acne and loud storms. She's almost tempted to give Professor Hecat a look if it weren't for the sheer confidence the woman has in her capabilities. (And who is she dissapoint? She, Hero of Hogwarts, Wielder of Ancient Magic.)
The staccatto of her heart is in her ears. The thought hurts: She's caused many, their own hearts, to stop beating. Would they crawl out that wardrobe, shrieking of their sorrows and her sins? Would it pour a stream of thick velvet, flooding the room and staining her hands red? It takes the form of your fears. The book had not been so specific. Make a mockery out of your nightmares and the boggart shall be defeated. She wants to spit venom and ask how does one make a mockery of the dead and the disappointed.
It is she who is next in line.
"Miss Moxie, if you could please come forward."
Judgement, a part of her whispers. This is judgement. Condemnation for your crimes. I had done it all for the sake of good. Look at how happy we were just moments ago. It is a demonstration of today's DADA curriculum. I'll succeed.
Professor Hecat meets her eyes.
The crowd eyes her like a spectacle, dispersing from the center as if to form a makeshift carpet. Since the events of the attempted Goblin Rebellion, most have begun to see her as a walking, talking theatre, moreso than they did when she first arrived as the 'Mysterious Fifth-Year'.
Genevieve steps forward, her wand held firm in her hand.
"You know the counter, dear girl. Think it amusing. Do not let it rule you," she urges. "I know you of all people, Miss Moxie, will persevere."
Hecat's hand on the knob hesitates, waiting for Genevieve's signal. Her classmates turn silent in raw anticipation.
She nods.
And the doors creak open.
"Is that—?!"
Something descends from the darkness — a shoe that matches her's in all its customized cobblerly. Another steps out and fear grabs her by the throat when it dawns upon the girl that the boggart is her.
Wrong.
A mirror image of her own but unlike her in so many ways.
Its facing this way, standing as a mannequin for whatever evil wracks within, limbs looking wrong, disjointed, longer somehow. Once dainty-skin painted purple and bruised, pale like a corpse, like the ones she's seen and killed. The same curved jaw, straight nose, llight hair, but this isn't her. It's not. It can't be.
With its chapped lips and sunken cheeks, its fingers flex around a familiar wand of intertwined wood–
Run.
and raises it to–
No. Fight it. It'll kill...
– her.
"Riddikulus!"
"The lesson ends here! Miss Onai, kindly guide Miss Moxie to the infirmary."
It should be that simple.
It should be, watching Hecat subdue the creature.
It's that simple: a play of one's wand and the boggart's visage contorts, a grotesque parody of fears both imagined and real. Hecat stands in between the girl and the wardrobe. With a final whimper, it dissolves into a haze. The room, previously thick with dread, shares an exhale.
Her legs are trembling, or is her body entirely? The world sways and Genevieve can't see anyone past the blur of her vision.
"Off now, everyone! Well done!"
She can't feel herself. Is she still alive?
"Vivi," calls a familiar, accented voice.
Natty places a hand on her shoulder, tugging Genevieve into a hug that's botj solid and warm and she yields. Her head falls against the crook of Natty's neck. She submits to being pampered, submits to letting the tremors of her body wash away.
It looked at her.
Eyes hollowed and dark, pupils slit like some semblance of composed insanity.
"It's alright now..."
A lighter voice, this time — Poppy's. Genevieve feels circles rubbed against her back as Poppy whispers words of encouragement. Sweet nothings. Empty promises of assurance.
Her friends know nothing of the truth. She ensured it. She's done well in keeping them at an arm's length. Only Sebastian had broken through her walls, tethered closely to her side, created a home in her heart, yet look now where he stands.
They cannot- should not see the blood on her hands, nor the scars strewn about her body like a heinous frankenstein. They cannot know of the crown placed upon her head and the thorns that dig in, of her duties and failures.
It reeks of copper and soil.
To what lengths are you willing to go?
It hurts that her friends don't feel real.
Are you a hero or a monster?
The repository calls her name.
Are you even Genevieve Moxie?
Her friends guide a husk to the infirmary, not without a string of kind words and gentle touches to her skin.
"It's alright."
But she knows, it's not.

Meet my MCs
Atticus Doukas • Kali Lars • Julian Vasco • Amelia Calvet
and here are a few little points that describe each of them.
Atticus Doukas
Only child syndrome
For most of the time, people frustrate him
Your typical stoic kinda guy but surprisingly knows how to be sensitive (sometimes)
Annoyingly good at everything
Mr. I-am-always-right
I always imagine he'd end up with Poppy because of their polar opposite dynamic
Kali Lars
Won't tell you you're pretty when you aren't
"Show me the part where I told you I give a fuck" is her favourite thing to say
Won't hesitate to kill and/or get killed for her loved ones
She'll take your secret to her grave if you ask her
Childish, she's basically a baby with a mean mouth
Julian Vasco
Courteous, obviously
If extraverted was a person
Small talks are for pussies, tell me what your traumas are
The kind of guy who will open and hold the door for you
Loves to sway you with pretty words
Amelia Calvet
Rules are conspiracies made by pussies who don't know how to live lives
Flirty
Surprisingly has a very strategic and rational way of thinking despite her rule-breaking tendency
Explore, explore, explore
Has a younger sister, this has trained her to be quite mature

The sky was a deep shade of blue, untouched by the encroaching fingers of smog that usually marred its beauty. Birds sang in perfect harmony, their melodies drifting lazily on the warm spring breeze. It was a day much like any other at the end of their 7th year, except for one small detail: today happened to be Aneira's 18th birthday. The date was May 17th.
The Slytherin common room was absent of the bustling students milling about, chatting animatedly or engrossed in books. A crackling fire burned merrily in the hearth, casting flickering shadows across the walls. The room itself was a study in emerald green, from the cold stone beneath their feet to the old historic windows bordering the underwater walls.
Aneira, clad in her favorite casual dark ensemble and dark red hoodie that Jess got for her birthday last year, sat at a couch near the fireplace, lost in thought. Her wand intricately tucked in her disheveled bun. She didn't even notice the three figures creeping up behind her. Suddenly, Jess, Sebastian, and Ominis burst into song, startling her out of her reverie. "Surprise!" they shouted in unison, grinning widely.
"Oh my gods, you guys!" Aneira squealed, her face flushing with excitement. "I can't believe you guys right now! Haha! This is the best surprise!" She threw her arms around Jess, then Sebastian, and finally Ominis, hugging them tightly.
As they pulled away from the hug, Jess gestured back to the couch, where a couple bottles of fire whiskey and a tray of glasses awaited them. "I smuggled these in myself! We thought you'd want something to help you unwind after a long day of classes," she explained, pouring each of them a glass. "Here's to another year around the sun!"
"Lechyd Da!" Aneira echoed, clinking her glass against each of theirs. She took a sip, savoring the warmth that spread through her chest as the smooth liquid slid down her throat. "This is amazing, guys. Thank you so much."
"You're welcome," Ominis said, grinning. "We figured you deserved something special."
Sebastian leaned in closer, his dark brown eyes sparkling with mischief. "So, you know how Jess and I always talk about our grand adventures, sneaking off into the night?" he began, eyebrows raising cheekily, setting off a round of knowing laughter from the three of them. "Well, we decided it's about time we include your devilish mind in some of those exploits."
Aneira's brow furrowed in confusion. "Woah, What exactly do you mean exploits Sebastian?"
"Not "those" exploits Aneira! Haha! You know..." Jess chimed in, her hand waving about the air, "He means like that time we snuck into the restricted section of the library and discovered that ancient scroll." Aneira shook her head, her confusion growing. "Or how about when we charmed Professor Howin into letting us pet a baby unicorn?" She still looked unsure. "Oh, come on," Ominis groaned, "you must remember that time Sebastian and Jess stole the headmaster's prized pocket watch and wore it for a whole week!"
Sebastian grinned impishly, "Oh, that's right, you were out of the country to Wales that week." Aneira's eyes widened in understanding. "Oh thanks the gods, but also, rude that you guys would almost get yourselves killed, or expelled without me, but you seriously mean, you want to include me in on your adventures too?" she asked, a sparkle of excitement starting in her emerald eyes.
"Uh hell yeah dude, Of course! We need your expertise and skill so we don't die!" Jess replied, clapping her hands together covering her mouth while she giggles. "We thought it was about time you joined in on the chaos. You've been hanging out with us for long enough now."
"HELL YEAH!! I'M IN!" Exclaimed Aneira, wiggling her hands and legs and excitement.
Sebastian grinned and reached into his pocket, pulling out a small leather pouch. "As a welcome gift," he said, tossing it to her, "we got you this." Aneira caught the pouch, feeling its weight in her hand. "It's a disguise kit, and a necklace Jess made herself." Sebastian explained, "So you can blend in better during our escapades."
"Also the necklace looks pretty dope." Jess added, her face turning shades of red from the alcohol. "What? I'm proud of myself you guys. Look at that craftsmanship! OH oh! I also enchanted it with my very own jinx I created. It's called Protego Infinitum, which will automatically cast stupify for approximately 15 minutes during a duel of any kind. It protects you from any curse, hex, or spell... Including Avada Kadavra... Don't ask how I know how to do that." Jess stated cheekily.
"What?!" Exclaimed Aneira "How is that even possible?!"
"Magic, apparently!" Jess stated back, Laughing. "Also, Garreth helped, and he's been asking about you too, since you two went to the Yule ball together." She added.
Ominis laughed, shaking his head. "Oh, you're going to love it. We've gotten into some pretty crazy situations us three, and I mean, some of them, we couldn't have even gotten out of without Jess's quick thinking." He paused, glancing at Jess with a smile. "Not that I'm biased or anything. Sebastian and I have something similar on us too."  Sebastian and Ominis in unison pull out similar looking pendants from their pockets.
Jess waved away his words with a small smile staring at her mouth. "Ominis hush! I can't have my three favorite people just wandering around unprotected, and I'm just glad we can count on you, too, Ominis and your Father for saving our butts on more than one occasion," she said. "And Aneira, you've already proven yourself more than capable at defending yourself, plus let's not talk about how you got to Hogwarts to begin with. I mean, let's not forget about that time you also talked your way out of detention for all of us by sweet-talking the headmaster."
Aneira's face flushed at the memory. "That was a very close call, I sneaked into his office and spiked his pumpkin juice with a concoction Garetth and I made up before all four of us had to meet in his office" she said, taking another sip of her fire whiskey. "But you guys have always been there for me, and I'm so grateful for that. I can't wait to start adventuring with you." She looked from one of them to the other, her emerald eyes shining with excitement. "So! Where do we start?"
The air was thick with laughter and the warm glow of the fireplace. The room was alive with the sounds of their voices, each story adding a new layer to the tapestry of their friendship. Aneira, Sebastian, Jess, and Ominis sat in the plush couch of the Slytherin common room, their bodies leaning into each other as they shared an unforgettable moment on Aneira's birthday night. The fire whiskey in their glasses flickered with each movement, casting dancing shadows across their faces, accentuating the hollows of their cheeks, the arch of their eyebrows.
Jessica, her blue eyes sparkling with mischief, leaned over to Aneira and whispered, "Do you remember that time we snuck into the forbidden forest and found that ancient tome on dark curses?" Her voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper, sending a shiver down Aneira's spine.
Aneira grinned, her green eyes alight with the memory. "Oh, Jess! Of course I remember." She reached across her lap to squeeze Jess's hand. "That was the night we first discovered what we could REALLY do to the Ashwinders, Ranrok's loyalists, and the Dark Wizards." She paused, her gaze drifting off into the distance, lost in thought. "I'll never forget the feeling of that ancient magic coursing through my veins."
Sebastian chuckled, his voice deep and gravelly. "And the look on Professor Hecate's face when she found out we'd been in there? Priceless." He took a sip of his fire whiskey, the liquid burning its way down his throat that he was all too used to. "She's never forgiven us."
Ominis nodded in agreement. "No, she hasn't, but you know what they say, 'with great power comes great responsibility'." He glanced around the room, his expression turning solemn. "And with great friends, comes even greater adventures."
Jess wrapped her arms around herself as she leaned forward, a contented smile on her lips. "I'm so glad we found each other, you three. You've changed my life in ways you'll never know." She took a sip of her fire whiskey, the heat spreading through her body. "Here's to many more birthdays together, Aneira. May they be as magical and adventurous as this one...Lechyd Da!" Their glasses clinked together, the sound echoing through the common room as they toasted to their friendship, their futures, and the limitless possibilities that lay before them.
The four of them sat there, laughing and sharing stories, their plans for the future growing more elaborate by the minute. The fire crackled in the hearth, casting a warm glow over the room as the night wore on. Eventually, they began to discuss specific ideas, each one more outrageous than the last. They talked about sneaking into the restricted section of the library to steal ancient artifacts, charming their way into exclusive parties, and even plotting a daring heist to steal the headmaster's pet dragon. Talk of future plans after graduation also surfaced, mingling with the atmosphere of the room.
As the alcohol flowed, their plans became more grandiose, their laughter louder, and their camaraderie stronger. It was as if the four had been friends for years even before Jess and Aneira started classes at Hogwarts, bound not only by their shared experiences but also by their shared desire for adventure and mischief. And as they finally began to wind down, Aneira knew that this was only the beginning of an incredible journey with her now life long friends.

Happy Mabon!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today is a special day for me because it is a birthday of my currently favorite OC, the MC of Hogwarts Legacy, and I intend to dedicate the whole of October to her. Happy birthday, Arlene! I wish to thank everyone, my friends and my rp-partners, who gave my girl love and kindness, she is my muse for a year now and I doubt it will change anytime soon. It is also Mabon, pagan holiday, the day of the autumn equinox, when day is equal to night, the day of years conclusions and the last harvest! On this day it is customary to give gifts, sum up and let go of the pain of the past. So also, Happy Mabon to everyone!

Chapter 61: An Extra Butterbeer
The Sun, the Moon, and All Our Stars
Tumblr media
Summary and Details…
Previous Chapter Recap/Context: Sebastian was incredibly sweet and took great care of Kate when she had bad cramps. Kate finally set a date to tell her family about Sebastian, and he continues to agonize over how they will react. Sebastian left for two days in the field as a Kelpies gang member (he's a double-agent working for the DMLE on probation). A few chapters back, Sebastian received a response from his old friend, Ruby McKinnon, the "Hero of Hogwarts." She wrote to say that she wanted to catch up and share some information about Anne in person, hoping that Friday evening at the Three Broomsticks would work. In this chapter, that time comes after Kate spends some time recounting what happened when Sebastian came home from two horrific days in the field.
Pairing: 25-year-old, post-Azkaban Sebastian Sallow x 24-year-old Kate Mayflower (my OC), the assistant librarian at Hogwarts
Art Credit: @giselsann-opencommissions 💛
Content warnings: In general, this is rated 18+, so minors should not read or interact with this story. In this chapter, there are emotional moments between friends who have been apart for a long time, but there is also discussion of arson, torture, child endangerment, physical scarring, and the use of Dark curses.
The full chapter is available below the cut; it can also be found on AO3 (link is posted below). Please leave some feedback if possible, especially if you like what you read! 🥰
Chapter 61: An Extra Butterbeer
As Kate places the shortbread biscuits carefully into a basket, her mind wanders back to the previous night.
She had spent the entire evening trying to distract herself from her nerves, praying to the gods that Sebastian would return unharmed. She had paced for about an hour before she finally decided to bake something, to be productive and keep the stress at bay. When she finally set the biscuits on a rack to cool, she heard the door open and close.
Rushing to him, she had pulled him into a tight embrace before she even had a chance to really look him over. He trembled in her arms and began to cry. It had clearly been a horrific couple of days. Sebastian couldn’t even bear to tell her exactly what had happened for a long while.
Kate had run a hot bath. She joined him, and his back sank against her chest. She noticed it right away - a huge new marking that resembled lightning. No one but she would have caught it, camouflaged amongst the endless sea of scars, but she had memorized every contour of his back through sight and touch. She had gasped upon this discovery but quickly covered for it by commenting on the scalding temperature of the water (exactly how he had requested it).
Kissing his head, his neck, his shoulders over and over, she told him how much she loved him, how relieved she was that he was home. She washed his hair, her fingertips tenderly massaging his scalp until he moaned. After some time, she stepped out of the tub to give him some privacy, drying herself off quickly. She set off to put together a comforting meal, a hearty stew with crusty bread. As soon as he finished, she let him melt into her body on the bed.
She didn’t push him to explain what had happened. He opened up on his own accord after spooning together in silence for about ten minutes.
“We were sent out to obtain information. My partner… took it too far. When our target wouldn’t break, we apparated to his house. He had a family, Kate. His wife was out, but his children were inside. My partner forced that man to watch, bound, while he set their home on fire,” Sebastian said very quietly. “It went up in flames so quickly - so much more quickly than I thought it would. I could hear the kids screaming, unable to find a way out. They were too young to have any magic.” He swallowed thickly.
Kate listened in horror, thankful she was cuddling him so he couldn’t see her face.
“That fucking cruel bastard was laughing the whole time,” Sebastian continued. “He kept running around the house like a mad man. He wanted… no, relished in causing harm, in watching it burn. While he was celebrating… I saw an opportunity and took it. I released the man and used a powerful charm to give the children a small path out. They all got away.” He shook his head. “But I don’t know if I’ll ever forget the screaming.”
Her arm tightened around his chest.
“We were punished when we got back to headquarters,” he added. “Severely punished. No matter how many times I have faced the Cruciatus… Merlin, it never gets easier.” He shuddered. “Kate… I thought about you. I thought about you the whole time. I pictured you. I saw you waiting for me outside the cottage. The sun was shining, and you were smiling… You wore a pretty yellow dress with flowers in your hair. You were calling to me, so happy… I was only able to bear it because of you. I wanted to come home.” He took a breath. “The bloody arsonist wasn’t so lucky. He said he couldn’t feel his legs afterwards… and they carried him off. I think he might be paralyzed.” He sniffed, and Kate wondered if he was holding back tears. “Yet another terrible thing I’ve done. Just add it to the long, long list… of why I shouldn’t be here.”
“No,” Kate replied immediately, her tone firm. “No, Bash. You saved those people. You’re a hero. A hero. That man got what he deserved.” She shakes her head. “You probably saved so many more potential victims. He might never be able to hurt anyone else.” She kisses the back of his head. “Bash… You did the right thing. Don’t ever question that.”
She didn’t utter a word when she later saw him down a potion for Dreamless Sleep.
Now, tying a silky white ribbon around the basket’s handle, she glances up to find Sebastian in the kitchen door frame wearing nothing but a towel around his waist, his hair still damp.
“I… can’t decide what to wear,” he confesses. “I don’t want to be overdressed, but I want to make a good impression… I haven’t seen them in so long.”
“I’ll help,” she replies, and follows him to the bedroom.
An hour later, Sebastian and Kate approach the Three Broomsticks hand-in-hand. Sebastian’s blue tie is a perfect compliment to Kate’s slightly softer blue dress. She carries the gift basket carefully.
“Ready?” she asks, searching his face.
“Ready,” he replies, taking a deep breath and opening the door.
His chocolate eyes adjust to the dim light and scan the pub for his friend. Kate trails him, also searching.
Sebastian doesn’t see Ruby at first, but he hears her. Her distinct laughter rises high, and it draws him. He strides confidently to find her sitting at a round table with Poppy in a somewhat hidden corner.
Ruby’s eyes go wide the moment he appears. Her mouth falls open. She rises, striding over to Sebastian, and without a word, hugs him and doesn’t let go for a long while. “Sebastian?” she asks in a hushed tone, pulling back to look at him. “Is that really you?”
He nods. “It’s me.”
“I still can’t believe it. I really thought I’d never see you again,” she murmurs. “But I never forgot you. Never.”
“Likewise,” he replies, still a bit stunned that this is actually happening.
Kate had not been sure what to expect when it came to Ruby’s appearance, but now that she is observing her, she cannot help but find Ruby quite pretty - a striking and unique beauty. It was no wonder that Sebastian had fancied her in their youth. Her unnatural, purple-red hair is pulled into a low bun, where she seems to keep her wand, her forehead covered by bangs. Her eyes appear brown at first, but as the light hits them, they become a deep crimson. She wears a plain, conservative white blouse, and, like her eyes, her gray skirt is not actually what it seems - it is actually a pair of pantaloons over black dragonhide boots. She has freckles just like Sebastian, and from her skin tone, it’s clear she spends a lot of time outdoors in the sun..
Kate watches intently until Poppy appears, standing before her. “Hi, Kate. I don’t know if you remember me, but I remember you. I recall seeing you and your friends in the common room many, many times over the years. Your group always seemed to have so much fun.”
Kate wants to continue listening to the exchange between Ruby and Sebastian out of curiosity but politely tears her attention away and smiles warmly at her old housemate. “Hi! I remember you, too! It’s good to see you.”
Her face tan and freckled, Poppy appears as though she’s just a year out of Hogwarts. The only obvious difference in appearance is her hair. It’s shorter, just about chin-length. She is dressed in a fashion similar to Ruby, but her clothing somehow looks a bit more feminine and soft.
“Funny how things work out. Who knew we’d end up with these two?” Poppy gestures at the two former Slytherins. She gazes at Ruby with obvious affection, a smile on her face.
“Indeed! Who knew…” Kate echoes with a laugh. “Have you been here long?”
“We came early to have dinner,” she replies. “We were hoping to see Sirona, but we seem to have missed her.”
“She’s on holiday,” Kate explains. “It’s an annual thing with her friends.” She pauses, then realizes that Poppy is staring at the basket in Kate’s hand. “Oh! This is for both of you. I baked some shortbread biscuits. I hope you like them.”
Taking the basket, she beams. “Thanks! We’re seeing my Gran tomorrow, and she loves shortbread. This will be perfect! We’ll all enjoy biscuits with tea.”
The two of them glance back at their partners, who seem deep in conversation.
“Shall we grab butterbeers for the table?” Poppy suggests, nodding towards the bar.
“Sure!”
When the two of them return to the table, Sebastian and Ruby have finally sat down. Poppy places the serving tray on the table as Kate settles into a chair. Each person grabs a mug of butterbeer, and they clink their vessels with smiles on their faces.
Sebastian glances back at the serving tray, looking puzzled. “There’s an extra…”
Kate didn’t even notice earlier. She looks to Poppy, who in turn faces Ruby.
“I… actually invited another friend - someone I haven’t had a chance to see in a long while,” Ruby explains nonchalantly. “I hope that’s alright.”
Sebastian frowns, disappointed that the night couldn’t have been focused on just the two of them catching up. Kate touches his arm in a comforting gesture, and her eyes try to communicate a message - that it’s alright and that this won’t be the only time they’ll get to visit. He quickly recovers, putting on a neutral face. “It’s alright.”
“Oh!” Ruby exclaims, her eyes lighting up in recognition of someone. “In fact… he’s here right now!”
Kate and Sebastian turn around.
Sebastian’s hand flies to his mouth, covering it in shock.
She doesn’t recognize the man standing nearby, scanning the room with unseeing milky blue eyes and an outstretched ebony wand, blinking red. He’s rather tall, thin, and pale with long blonde hair pulled into an elegant ponytail. His fashion sense is impeccable - his long, dark coat is tailored and is finished with a velvet trim. He looks exactly like someone Kate’s mum would set her up with.
“O- Ominis,” Sebastian gasps, rising from his seat.
Kate’s brow furrows. How…?
“Sebastian,” Ominis replies. “I…”
“Ominis,” Sebastian repeats, a bit louder, striding towards him and taking in his expression. He reaches out and hugs him tightly.
Ominis is tense for a moment, but then he reciprocates.
“It’s so good to see you,” Sebastian chokes out, trying to hold back tears, but he quickly begins to sob in happiness, his shoulders rising and falling intermittently.
“I never got your letter,” Ominis tells him, “but Ruby contacted me this week and told me the news - that you had been released from Azkaban. I couldn’t believe it. We had tried so many times to…” He trails off, looking thoughtful.
Ruby approaches her friends. “I knew Ominis would not have ignored your letter. I knew there had to be some kind of mistake - that something must have gone wrong.”
Ominis drapes his arm over Sebastian’s shoulder. Sebastian can’t stop looking at him, still crying.
“Look at us,” Ruby says with a smile. “Reunited at last.”
