You know the popular hc that most ghosts believe Clockwork is a myth? And Danny is the only one to have ever interacted with Clockwork. And all the other Ancients know him because CW is an Ancient as well. But what if most the Ancients think that CW is a myth as well? Because CW has been chained and bound a lot longer than Pariah Dark ever existed by Observants of the past. CW would've been unbound when PD killed the Observants, but PD bound CW himself before killing all the old Observants. PD kept the younger/ new ones alive because even though he's a tyrant he knew that the Infinite Realm needs at least a few Observants.

Another deaged Ellie and Dan, but Danny was reincarnated as Damian Wayne
Danny Damian because he was Damian now, wasn't he? He remembers now the Fentons, the GIW, Sam and Tucker, jazz. He wonders if they could have also followed him here. A part of him longs to see his fraid again, but are they his fraid still? He was a new person. Son of The Bat and Heir to the Demon Head. Something Dami he remembers reminding people of. If only Sam could see him now, he knows she'd love that. "Who's edgy now?" He can picture her saying. He can almost see Tucker laughing so hard he'd fall out of his seat.
Crack
The sharp sound of the thunder brings him to the present. He looked over at his clock, 3:00 A.M. The witching hour he can hear Ellie tell him with a mischievous smile on one of their flights around Amity Park. She loved to drag him and Dan sometimes Vlad if he was feeling friendly. Dan, his future evil self tormented by the deaths of all his family and friends, so hurt he got Vlad to rip his human half out so he didn't have to feel the pain. Ellie, his clone, created by Vlad to be the perfect son, too bad she was a daughter. Looking down at his stomach where their cores are now incubating, he couldn't help but wonder if Vlad had anything to do with this.
He shook his head as if that would rid himself of that thought. Vlad was a real fruitloop, but he would never purposefully endanger Dan or Ellie. Vlad, in his twisted and weird ways, did love them in his own ways like kidnapping and keeping him hostage to save Ellie. He had forgiven vlad for the desperate attempt to save his daughter, but incubating Ellie and Dan's cores would make him their father now, too. Ew, coparenting with Vlad does not sound like a fun time. He glanced down and lifted his shirt hesitantly. If he focused on his stomach, he could see a faint blue and red glow emanating from his stomach. Red, Vlads' color, he thought distantly. Hopefully, it didn't mean much. As if signaling him, the envelope they had carried with them to him fell off the bed carried to the floor by the slight breeze.
Lighting lumineating the bedroom, making the crisp white color shine for just a second. He tentatively reached down to grab it. He was being a baby. He was a trained assassin from birth, and his fear trained beaten out of him a long time ago. Some part of him whispered his father and Richard's teachings of being brave but not without fear.
He paused. Father would want to know everything. His past life, Ellie and Dan, the ghosts, being a halfa. He wouldn't understand, Richard would try to, but not even he could never really understand. He couldn't subject his babies to that. He couldn't live with the threat to being ripped apart molecule by molecule. His father's lack of emotional intelligence certainly would not help young halfas. He was fourteen again the age he was killed in his first life. The age he started facing ghosts from another dimension.
He started younger in this life. Killing younger, he learned to fight his whole life. Jazz would hate that. Jazz... he wondered if she was alright if she survived the attack... no, there's no time to think of that right now. He ripped open the envelope( like a band-aid, Richard would remind him), and he noticed Vlad's familiar fancy fruitloop writing immediately(he had fancy fruitloop writing now, instead of the chicken scratch Jazz chided him over). So he was right about one thing this had vlad all over it.
Dear Daniel,
Though I understand you might not be Daniel when this letter finds you. I have been reincarnated into another life as I believe you have as well. My new name is Alexander Luther. I own a corporation called Lexcorp. I unfortunately can not change the name according to my board. The idiot lot of them.
He snickered at that. His smile dropped immediately. Vlad was Lex Luthor, the archnemesis of Superman. Jon would most certainly not like this. He forced himself to read on before he spiraled further.
I regained my memories after an experiment went wrong. I know how original. My new incarnation was able to open a small portal that grew in size, and eventually, somehow Danielle and Dan fell through. The portal then exploded, and I regained my memories. Unfortunately, it destabilized their clone bodies. I couldn't grow working bodies in time, and eventually, I had to hope they could find you. I hoped somehow that the yeti doctor would have imparted some of his strange knowledge onto you that might save them.
Vlad, no Lex still wrong. Vlad was somewhat right about that. During one of his all things ghostly lessons from Frostbite, he told him of how in the old ages ghosts often incubated their ghostlings. A protective measure back when magic and spirits were more prevalent. He didn't really understand it back then, and he doesn't understand it much now, either. Apart from the fact he was doing it, he supposed. What if he did something wrong and he lost them? He doesn't think he could live out his half-life if he lost them again. He needed to get to Vlad, and quickly too so they could start building a new portal to the infinite realms.
If this letter finds you. Come find me immediately at these coordinates. I've gone deep underground to escape my new archnimesis's suoer senses. I've m started research on a new portal, but I'll need your endeneering skills. This world is severely lacking in ectoplasmic science and engineering. I am once again forced to start from scratch on my own. Once we get the portal open, you'll need to go straight to The Far Frozen.
It's as if he's reading my mind, I think jokingly.
P.s. One of my experiments may or not have regiven then my new DNA in an attempt to restabilize them.
Only Vlad.
Well, it looks like they actually were going to be coparenting after all. This was going to go great.
I sigh and lean my head back down on my pillow. He committed the cords to memory before lighting the letter on fire with the lighter he kept in his bedside drawer. Point to assassin training. Jason would be proud. He supposed he could stay for a month or so before leaving, which would give him enough time to get away or think of some kind of mission to give himself. He shoots up. Todd had died and came back. He was a revenant. He couldn't stick around if he were to visit he'd know something was wrong immediately even if he didn't understand it.
He sprung out of bed quickly, but quietly, his foot steps perfectly silent despite his rushed mood of packing a bag. He packed a few pairs of clothes and lots of hidden weapons, some snacks he kept hidden for that should keep him fed on his journey but leaving any sentimental things behind. He glanced longingly at his sketch pad, but Vlad was most likely under the water judging by the coordinates he was given. Who knows if it would survive.
He checked the pack, making sure he got all he needed. He promptly checked it again. Twice. After deeming it sufficient, he willed himself to open the door. He mentally cataloged everyone in the manor. Pennyworth was most likely still in Father's room, making sure he actually listened to his insructions. Richard and Todd in Bludhaven and Crime Alley, respectfully. Cain and Brown in Hong Kong. Thomas was sleeping after his dayshift.
Everyone accounted for except Drake. He was most likely using Pennyworth's attention on Father to work cases. He just had to take the risk. For his ghostlings, for himself, Vlad. He crept down the hallways. He was opening the grandfather clock in record time. He went slower this time. He would use his powers, but his father had supernatural wards of all kinds in the cave. Who knows what they did. He was also admittedly trying to save his little energy for his voyage on the open sea. Light snoring hit his ears as he peered around the corner.
Thank ancients.
Drake was sleeping at the batcomputer, still in his Red Robin suit sans mask surrounded by his poor choices. Empty coffee cups and files spread around. He would still need to be quiet, Drake was a light sleeper, as was everyone else in his family. He grabbed the keys to his bike quickly, sneaking by. If he wasn't ditching his bike at Gotham Bridge, he would have disabled his trackers. He checked the gas and made sure he could make it. That's when he made his first mistake.
Putting the gas jug back down, he accidently hit another of one of his siblings' tools to the floor. He tried catching it without success, but it fell anyway, the loud clang echoing. Mistake number two.
Shit.
"Huh? What's happening?" Drake arose sleepily rubbing his eyes.
He froze. Mistake number three.
"Damian? What are you doing down here?" His eyes landed on him, and he spoke confusedly with his voice heavy with sleep or lack thereof.
He panics. He's blaming the pregnancy hormones on this.
He runs.
"Damian!" Drake responded to his dead sprint with his own. "Stop!"
He reaches his bike, and he turns the keys and prays. Luckily, it comes to life. He fumbles with his helmet it would hide his tears he needed it. who knows if he'll ever get to see them again. He shoots off down the tunnel. Flicking the cave door open remotely.
Another bike rears to life behind him. "Damian wants going on?" Drakes voice echoes in his ears. He can almost taste the concern in it amplified by the helmet. He ignores it and accelerates. He ignores the returned acceleration behind him.
----------------
Tim has no clue what made Damian panic enough to run away. He quickly ran to his own bike while swearing. Damian is already gaining distance on him. After another attempt at getting Damian to calm down and talk, he calls the only person Damian would actually listen to.
He hopes Dick will forgive him for waking him at five o'clock in the morning on his day off.

DP AU where Phantom feels no pain but any and all accumulated injuries hit him when Danny switches back to fenton (originally proposed by @paenling). Lovingly dubbed the Pain Train AU by The discord.
See more for our hcs!
Okay so headcannons we have come up with:
-Danny avoids switching to Phantom at all costs. His drive to fight ghosts and protect Amity is still there, but he combats ghosts using teamwork with Sam/Tucker, modified gadgets and a lot of improvisation - He only ever switches to Phantom as a final resort. When he does, he milks it for all its worth before he has to switch back after a battle and the pain hits - As a result, Phantom form is extra powerful because excess energy isn't shed through regular use and some ghostly attributes bleed over to his human form - his eyes seem to glow a green tinge and he has a white streak in his hair ever since the accident. He ends up looking hella ecto-contaminated - Because he can't fight like he does in canon (essentially just throwing himself at an enemy until something sticks), his fighting style is a lot more strategic. He uses weapons/gear he steals from his parents that he modifies and as many ghost powers as he can manifest in human form - Sam serves as a secondary fighter, but usually leaves the heavy hitting to Danny. She helps with planning and often sets up traps to help catch ghosts. Tucker, as always, works as the tech guy but also is the team medic. Together, the trio work as a ghost fighting crew and have backup plans in place whenever Danny is out of commission - Danny usually wears a face covering when fighting and an inverted sweatshirt, but the trio's ghost fighting is kinda an open secret at Casper High. Who the fuck else has hair like that? - His Phantom identity is something much less well known because it's much more monstrous looking and is rarely seen ever. He's more of Amity's local friendly Cryptid than it's superhero
- When he switches back for the first time, he finally realizes the scope of his situation. Sam and Tucker thought he was dying for real the first time he switches over. After that, he learns very quickly to avoid using Phantom form
- As a result of the combination of how powerful Phantom is when he does switch over and the pain he experiences every time he switches over, he quickly comes to resent Phantom and associate the destruction and pain with ghosts as a whole
-Lotta self loathing here. Sorry not sorry
- Surprisingly, it's Vlad, who's in the same situation who shows him that his ghost form isn't an inherent evil
- The other ghosts get in on this action and show him the little, enjoyable things about being a ghosts
- His friends and sister help him slowly change his mindset about Phantom after that. They never saw Phantom as a force of evil, unlike Danny
Yes. There is even more in the discord. I tried to get as much of my favorite hcs in this post as I could

One thing i want to talk about is how Danny Phantom A Glitch in Time is pretty similar on themes and character arcs to Steven Universe Future.
In general in DP A Glitch in Time there is this whole idea of searching for a new purpose-¨emotional drive¨ as it get called in the story- in a era where Danny managed to save the day and ¨earn his happy ending¨.
Tumblr media
You get a lot of panels of Danny just feeling unhappy with his new status quo, not because he has tons of problems, in fact he has more than he could ever dream of. It's that he feels like he isn't needed as a hero anymore since there are other people that could fight for him. He isn't ¨useful¨, or well, in the way he used to be. He feels like people don't need him to be Amity's protector.
Tumblr media
This itself shares a lot in common with the arc that Steven goes through in Steven Universe Future. He feels like people don't need him anymore and still tries doing the same thing he raised himself to be: a ¨helper¨, someone who is defined by his role to help others. This causes Steven to feel lost in his own sense of identity and purpose in an Era that is supposed to be ¨his happy ending¨.
You can see this applied in DP A Glitch in Time with Vlad Masters too. From the start of the story he sends off these vibes that he has been aimless since post-Phantom Planet events. When he returned to his home he found that ¨he had nothing to return to¨ as in the sense nobody missed him nor cared he was dead or alive. He also became enemy number 1 considering how he tried holding the world hostage, making him lose most of the power and position he had.
Tumblr media
What it is interesting is how Vlad tried going back in time to ¨fix his mistakes¨ by asking Clockwork to give him that chance. From the beginning of the story he admits that he did something wrong, just not what. There is this idea that he isn't interested in being in role of the ¨villain¨ anymore. The worst he does in the story is probably looking forward to keep the origin of ghost powers for himself, aside from accidentally realizing Dan during his fight against Clockwork.
Much like Steven Universe Future, you have these characters struggling to see where they could fit in this new status quo. Their character arcs involve finding a new purpose and learning more about themselves in the process.
Lets talk about Dan Phantom's role in the story. He is the main antagonist from A Glitch in Time. He absorbs Clockwork, master of time, to become more powerful, thus causing terrible time glitches for the rest of the characters. A lot of Dan Phantom's arc in the graphic novel has to do with self-destruction. Him being obsessed with ¨winning¨ and continue fighting even when the fusion with Clockwork is very unstable, is hurting him and destroying the reality at the same time.
Tumblr media
Dan's obsession with ¨winning¨ reminds me quite a lot of Jasper from Steven Universe as well as Steven's arc in SU Future. There is a lot of repeating what the same thing over and over even when it isn't working anymore. The character themselves struggle to be something beyond the the role them or others pushed them into and they don't know what to be outside of that.
In fact, there are some panels Dan reminded me a lot of Jasper, such as when he is getting time glitched/corrupted.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another main theme in Danny Phantom A Glitch in Time is about the characters getting second chances- the characters in case being Vlad Masters and Dan Phantom. Both characters do the terrible things they do due to their circumstances. They have certain pretty bad things that happened to them that lead them to become evil and hurt people. In addition to this, there tons of mentions of how ghosts aren't evil and they have reasons to do what they do. During the fight against Dan, Danny tries persuading him into stepping down and stopping the fight, pointing out that the timeline is getting destroyed. At one point he asks to Dan ¨why are you so angry?¨.
Tumblr media
I want to bring up that, yes, this theme is a continuation from the main theme of The Ultimate Enemy episode from the series. But, at the same time, when reading the graphic novel i couldn't help but think about how Steven Universe has these similar ideas of looking into what motivates an antagonist and them being given a second chance to do things right. What really made me think about this more is seeing Dan Phantom, the main antagonist from the novel getting a second chance. Because in any other show, a character like Dan would probably be destroyed but this is something that wouldn't happen in Steven Universe, since it isn't so much about if someone ¨deserves¨ it or not as it is if they choose to change.
I'm not saying that Danny Phantom A Glitch in Time ¨ripped off¨ things from Steven Universe. That would be an absurd conclusion to come to. What i'm discussing here is that it is possible that the graphic novel was influenced by Steven Universe, mainly Steven Universe Future to some extent, in terms of themes and character arcs.

You Keep Slipping From My Grasp 1/7
Ao3
Ship: Spirit Halloween
next
Summary:
Danny has been getting the hang of this whole “Ancient of Doors”, “Apprentice to Clockwork”, “Dad to the Chaos Gremlin Dani” thing, and he’s really starting to find his flow! Sure, he sometimes misses the life that could’ve been, but overall everything has been great! Sure doesn’t need anything throwing a tangle in things.
Bruce is suffering. He doesn’t know who he is, where he is, or what the hell is going on. All he’s running on is instinct and strange forces propelling him towards some end he’s not entirely certain of.
Basically, Danny tries to help Batman over the course of events covered in Batman:Return of Bruce Wayne
Chapter One:
“Clockwork? Are you here? I got your message.” Danny floated up the tower, peeking behind cogs and pendulums, hoping to find a glimpse of his teacher’s signature purple cloak.
It had been a long time since certain… events had led Danny to become a far more permanent resident of the Infinite Realms. Of course, he wasn’t alone, as much of Amity had also followed him here to carve out a new life all together, his friends and family included.
Danny had since reached maturity and been recognized as Ancient of Doors for his actions. When faced with his evil future self, he strove to find another path where he didn’t become that future self. When Dani was revealed to be with the enemy, he chose to love her still, rather than hate her as many would. When he was faced with a reality where he was famous, and accepted by his parents, he chose to undo all of that for the peace and safety of his friends and family. While he now knew his parent’s acceptance would always come, he still had to make the choice then to put his trust in them and reveal himself so his friends could be saved when the GIW came to destroy Amity Park. And so, for his commitment to forging new paths, always finding another choice, and braving the unknown he was named Ancient of Doors.
Sam had also found her own mentor in Undergrowth, working hard as his apprentice to aid him in his duties as Ancient of Wild Growth. Tucker and Technus had quickly formed a rivalry, both competing to see who would reign supreme as the Infinite Realm’s ultimate tech master. Jazz had found her purpose in the Department of Lost Souls, as an advisor to those who weren’t certain about their afterlife, and what they wanted to do with it. After Jack and Maddie’s change of heart with regards to ghosts, it was not long before they found new purpose in investigating and researching the many mysteries of the Infinite Realms and beyond.
While he and his friends had reached their own maturity, Dani had remained a child. Something about “It’s easier to cause chaos this way” and “No one ever suspects the baby”. Danny’s fondness for his clone only grew until he saw her less as a cousin and more as a daughter. Ultimately, it was only a surprise for Danny and Dani when the ghost-bond snapped in place, formally cementing her as his daughter, to both of their suffering.
Currently, she was out in one of the universes, chasing after some hybrid spider-pig, Danny thinks. Unless she got distracted and went to hang out with Klarion again, in an effort to “maximize joint chaos”. Tucker and Sam were both busy with their respective duties, Jazz was at work, and last he checked Mom and Dad were elbows deep in a mech suit they were hoping to get working off an Infinite Realms Corn-based fuel Sam had created. Danny had been feeling quite bored before he got the summons from Clockwork, and had jumped on it right away, hence his surprise at not being able to find his Mentor anywhere.
Danny had finally reached the top of the tower. He could see a table set up with a small tea service, but still no Clockwork. Figuring there’s nothing else to do, Danny pours himself a cup of tea, and settles in to wait.
Who is he? What is this place? His hand rests against a cool, smooth surface that appears so at odds with the rest of his surroundings-rocky ground, a red sky, and the water lapping against the cliff-side. There is nothing, and no one else that he sees, except – a cave. He stumbles in, visions of symbols surfacing in his brain- two “W”s, an “S”, a bat. He carves these into the rock-face desperate to have a visual trigger that would help him remember anything, but nothing comes.
A rock clatters against the floor of the cave, followed by someone’s voice. He approaches, steadily, entering into the light. Four men stand before him, weapons raised. They say something else, but he can’t understand.
“Where am I? What is this place?”
They do not answer him, but pull back their weapons. They introduce themselves, and speak some more. Names, he realizes- Man, Boy, Giant, Surly, Joker. This last one gives him pause, tickles something in his brain that upsets him, but soon his eyes lay on the structure from before, and he stumbles back to it, certain it must contain some clue.
The men he walks past continue to converse amongst themselves, but he has only one destination in mind. He digs through, looking for anything, but comes up only with a large swath of fabric. That same “S”, that calls to him but gives no answers.
The men set up camp, cooking as they go. They invite him to join, and he does, his hunger for food now outweighing his hunger for knowledge.
“Danny, I’m glad you came as soon as you could.”
Danny’s teacup clatters as he jolts in surprise. He turns to face Clockwork, “I hope you don’t mind that I helped myself. What did you need my help with?”
Clockwork’s face turns a bit grim. “There is… something twisted in the time stream in one of the Justice League universes. While I can tell it is meant to happen, I am still uncertain about what is actually happening, and fear that I am unable to see with any certainty the outcome. I need you to venture to when this is to investigate on my behalf.”
Danny nods, his concern growing. “Of course. Is there anything in particular I should be prepared for?”
Danny swears he sees the corner of Clockwork’s mouth twitch up into his signature sly grin, before his face is quickly schooled and he says “No, just observe for now. Your destination is through here.”
Danny watches as the cog begins to glow before he ventures forward.
Immediately he is met with the sight of violence. It seems one group of cavemen has taken to attacking another during their dinner. Danny watches, cautious against intervening, trying to figure out who he is meant to watch for. He sees one man, dressed in black bottoms, escape the field of battle with a young boy and hide in the bushes. The battle quickly turns against the four who had been eating dinner, and Danny looks at the leader of those attacking, surprised that the leader’s face is familiar to him…though he can’t quite place who.
The man from before rejoins the fray, quickly beating many off before ultimately being subdued himself. The leader of the attacking cavemen crows in victory, before the army collects the man they’ve now taken prisoner and any other spoils, and returns to their home base.
Danny follows, trying hard not to focus on the bloodshed beneath. He may have lived a long time, but the kind of person willing to commit such violence is not someone he goes out of his way to find. He watches as the chief holds the man they took captive above his head.
“Conquering Chief Savage brings gifts from the forbidden land!”
“Shit,” Danny thinks, “I can’t believe I’m witnessing Vandal Savage’s villain origin story. Or is he already a villain at this point?”
Danny continues watching as they tie up the captive, who they’ve been calling ‘Man-God’ underneath a giant bat pelt. He takes a closer look, before reeling back in shock.
“I thought his pants were weird, but those are pretty 21st century” he thinks, before glancing around at hearing a shuffle. He sees a shadow lurking beyond the camp, crouched down. Danny approaches, recognizing the boy that had been rescued from the fight. He wears what looks like a yellow utility belt, and has painted a bat-shaped mask over his eyes.
“Wait… bats, a yellow utility belt…” Danny glances again to the Man-God strapped to the ground.
“What is Batman doing here..?” Danny pauses, thinking. He should only be here as an observer, but it has never felt right to just stand on the sidelines when he can make the choice to do something to help. Maybe he doesn’t have to do too much. He floats over to where the Boy is crouched, clearly wanting to help but paralyzed with fear and indecision.
“Go to him. Help him as he has helped you. There has been enough bloodshed this day, will you wait around to see more?” Danny whispers to him, watching the boy’s eyes harden as he comes to a decision.
The boy is quick to act now that he’s made a decision. He approaches Batman, and frees him from his bonds. Danny watches as they collect themselves. Batman dons his utility pelt, and the bat pelt that had been hung over him. By the time they’ve finished their preparations, the sun has risen and the men who captured Batman are rising.
“Should I cause a distraction?” Danny wonders, but before he can do anything, Batman and the boy spring into action, taking out fighter after fighter, until Batman is left facing Vandal Savage.
They charge towards each other, but Danny’s attention is caught by a shadow that begins to pass over the battlefield. He looks up, noting an eclipse is starting. He can feel the energy changing, knows that something is going to happen when the sun has been completely blotted out.
But Clockwork has instructed him only to observe, so observe he will. He turns back to the battlefield, noting that Batman and the boy have managed to push back Vandal Savage, but are still being chased off by the remaining caveman. They drop over a waterfall, but when Danny follows, he only sees the boy surface.
The sky is dark now, as the sun has been completely covered, and there is energy concentrated underneath the water. Danny focuses, in the way Clockwork has taught him, to figure out what lies beneath and where Batman has gone.
“A strong amount of time-manipulation energy…No Batman, not in this time anymore.” Danny looks around to see the boy has realized Batman will not follow, and has left to find shelter.
“Did he make another jump through time? But how? I didn’t see that he had anything on him capable of such a jump?” Danny thinks. He’s considering if he can piggy back off the residual energy to jump to when Batman is, but a portal opens behind him and Clockwork steps out.
“Danny, I think it would be best if we return now.” he says, gesturing for Danny to follow.
Back at his mentor’s lair, Danny explains the situation to Clockwork. Clockwork inclined his head in thought, only speaking after some time, “I can’t say for certain whether or not Batman was meant to be in that time period. However, there is something suspicious about the way he’s been traveling through time. Did you notice anything off with the time manipulation energy, Danny?”
“I can’t say for certain,” Danny starts, “Though I did notice there was a build-up to the event, in line with an eclipse. Then again, I’m not familiar enough with the way dimensional energy manipulation feels in the universes with the Justice League to say for certain.”
Clockwork hums, before turning to rifle through a cupboard that popped up behind him. He pulled out a glowing orange orb. “Here, it’s a record of the time-manipulation energy gathered from one of the Flash’s misadventures. Can you compare and feel any difference?”
Danny closes his eyes before focusing again. “I can feel there are some significant similarities, but it feels like both have an added component that is different from each other? I don’t know if that makes any sense.”
“The energy reading from the sphere I handed you will likely contain energy both from the time-manipulation and the Speedforce the Flashes use to travel between time. If we assume the time-manipulation energy is the constant in both samples, then…”
“There’s some other energy added into the mix that is propelling Batman forward through time?” Danny finishes.
“That is likely the case. Until we know what it is, it would be best to exercise caution. We don’t know how it interacts with the time-manipulation energy, so we can’t predict how it might affect you Daniel.” Clockwork pauses in thought once more, “I’ll spend some time figuring out where Batman made his next jump. In the meantime, take a rest and prepare yourself.”
“I’m not totally familiar with the universes containing the Justice League. I’ll spend some time researching for now… and maybe I’ll ask Dani what she knows when she returns.”
Clockwork smiles slightly, before nodding. “A fine course of action, it might be best to gather all the information we can before proceeding.”
A/N:
At the time of plotting this, I haven’t read A Glitch in Time. I know that there are some time periods in common that Danny and Bruce travel to, so I want to address that at this moment I’m not planning to reference A Glitch in Time.
As for actual writing, I feel a bit stuck on how much of Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne to actually reference, as I’m aware that most people in the dp x dc fandom are more familiar with Danny Phantom, and from other references I’ve seen to Batman’s travels through time it might not be a story many are familiar with. That being said, I don’t want to just directly repeat details from the comics. I guess if you feel I didn’t provide enough background from the comic series to understand what’s going on, or that I should maybe try referencing less, please let me know so I can make corrections.
On that note, I do recommend reading Batman:The Return of Bruce Wayne if you get the chance. There are so many interesting layers it adds to the mythos and history of Batman and the Wayne family, and it’s really a great read. It helps that you don’t really need too much knowledge of what comes before– except maybe that Batman had crafted a god-killing bullet he shot Darkseid with, before Darkseid retaliated and “killed” Batman. Even this is alluded to in the story in enough detail that you can understand what’s going on, though.

Note
(I should ask it anonymously from the first time, shouldn't I?)
Tumblr resembles the old Rich History pairing. It returns me to the thought of how dark this pairing must be if it was a background. I mean, if Vlad wanted to be loved for whole series then CW must be secretly in love with this man (if we see this pairing as bg canon), Vlad didn't knew about it. But CW should know better how Vlad tortures in his loneliness, there's no reason to keep your feelings secretly only unless you do your best to your crush was left alone. That's the great and insidious plan: Clockwork let Vlad first find out how wonderful to be in love (let him to have a crush on Maddie), but then has been doing his best for loneliness, torture and, at last, desperation devoured the whole Vlad, abstract any potential partner using your Time-control power, so, at the end, when CW reveals his feelings to Vlad, he would 100% accept it. And even if their relationship would be a little abusive to hold Vlad, there wouldn't be any person around Plasmius to help him. Even his little badger.
I know, it's too dark and most in phandom sees CW as absolutely good guy but I always have seen him as true neutral (good guy for the whole reality but still can be a little egoistic)
I agree; characters and relationships are more interesting (to me and in general) when they're not 100% good or 100% evil. True neutral characters run the same risk of being flat and boring, unless there's an element of omniscience and/or omnipotence, like Clockwork. Then it gets interesting.
Let's examine canon: Clockwork is charged with keeping the flow of time in order and making sure things happen as they should—which would have to include terrible events. Terrible events that happen to innocent people. To do his job, he must be truly impartial*. He's like a force of nature or an element—the same rain that nourishes the earth also causes destruction and loss of life, but it's neither wicked nor divine.
(*He violated his neutrality in The Ultimate Enemy and intervened to give Danny a second chance, clearly showing favoritism. But this is a kids show, and cartoon logic dictates the good guy never loses.)
Maybe Clockwork is compassionate and capable of loving others, but he can't let it interfere with his job. And his job is perhaps the most important one in the universe.
But my question is this: What would Clockwork possibly find attractive about Vlad? What could Vlad, a half-mortal man who's only existed 40-some years, a mere blink of the eye in the scope of eternity, possibly have in common with the Ghost of Time?
Loneliness. That's my theory. The curse of the overpowered (Clockwork) and the overzealous (Vlad). I would argue that it's more likely for Clockwork to take an interest in Vlad because of their mutual loneliness rather than any kind of perverse desire to manipulate someone he happens to find attractive. (For that matter, what's so attractive about Vlad? What could Vlad have to offer someone as omnipotent as Clockwork? Nothing—except maybe companionship.) They would understand each other, perhaps Clockwork more than Vlad, since he's omniscient and has been living alone much longer.
Being understood is, in my opinion, better and more important than being loved. For this reason, and the fact that canonically we never really saw any indication of Clockwork being selfish or egotistical (a little mischievous, but nothing malicious), I just don't see him using/abusing his powers to manipulate Vlad into loving him. Why would he? Boredom? Self-indulgence? The thrill of enjoying his absolute power? That's something villains do, not neutral characters. If anything, Vlad seems more likely to try to manipulate Clockwork into loving him just so he'd have a powerful ally who might bend time as a little favor.
But Rich History is definitely a ship with potential for a lot of really good angst and "darkness", and the more I'm in this fandom, the more attractive it becomes to me.

Like Ik i posted my initial reaction and such to a glitch in time
But
I haven't actually sat down and given my full thoughts on it
So yeah
First off without going into Spoilers..
In my head I had alot of..not necessarily expectations but theories on what it would be like..and while I love Danny Phantom I've always been Iffy on the story continuing after Phantom Planet so I'll admit i was optimistic bur skeptical.
This wasn't at all how I expected it to come back and thats the thing i think i love the most about it.
If someone told me that Gabriella Epstein was in charge of working on the 1st 2 seasons of the original cartoon I would've completely believed them because her writing felt EXACTLY like how the show was back then. Even with modern slang added in at no point did the dialog feel cringe or anything like that it just flowed naturally.
Which i appreciate.
What I really love about it tho is the fact that it allowed ghosts to BE ghosts, not Monsters from another dimension or whatever they're actual manifestations of human emotion and spirits which makes Danny's decision at the end feel even more powerful because he really is connected to both worlds even more than he initially realized.
I love that they gave the ghost zone lore made it feel like an actual ethereal place.
NOW onto the spoiler parts
The character arcs specifically Danny,Dan,Vlad and Valerie.
It's very easy to have a character like Vlad in particular be like "The Disasteroid event made me realize how much of a fool I've been" and just end his arc there. But they didn't go that route throughout the comic we actually see that Vlad is still an asshole despite regretting some of his actions he's still NOT a good guy but we gradually see that through spending time with Danny and seeing how his anger and rage fueled Dan,that he really has been a fool he really isn't a bad guy he was just hurt, alone and damaged he lost control.Vlads whole thing is that because he feels he lost everything he tries to rule as a way to feel in control..not a very healthy method but what can u do.
Dan despite being a grown man physically is just a scared kid. Here we have a version of Danny who lost everything and corrupted by Vlad's ghost half decided that through Domination and control he wouldn't lose anything anymore now this Danny meets his younger self who is not only desperately trying to prevent himself from ever becominf like him but he succeeds! Now This younger Danny has pretty much the perfect life a family who accepts him, friends who love him and is accepted fully by the world while Dan lost his timeline and now doesn't belong anywhere. He lost everything and now taking from others is the only way he can feel in control sounds Very similar to another half/ghost we know.He and Vlad are truly Kindred Spirits and they are the only people who can truly help each other.
Danny going from hunting ghosts to accepting that ghosts are just as much people as humans are and that maybe he shouldn't only defend one side of the spectrum that humans are just as evil as ghosts and ghosts can be just a human as humans and him deciding to be the bridge between both in what i like to call (Avatar Wan Moment) perfectly ties his character together. And it's even reflected in his relationship with Dan and Vlad throughout the book, even after all that Danny still doesn't trust Vlad he doesn't even like Vlad BUT he acknowledges that not only could he not do it without Vlad but Vlad is actively trying to change possibly for the better and him acknowledging that Dan is just a scared kid at his very core just like he once was is *chefs kiss.
Valerie might come as a shock because alot of people felt that she wasn't that much utilized in this story but i feel like that's for a reason. Since Phantom Planet first happened I've always wondered what Valerie's feelings on Danny being phantom was and we kinda got a glimpse into that here ..we see that when she thought Dan was Danny she fulling believed that he had turned on them..like despite her previous relationship with Danny she still views him as a possible threat and that by itself looks like something she'll for sure have to deal with in the future.
Aside from that
The art was beautiful like i cannot keep talking about how pretty it looked. Like my only gripe with it is that the character designs/outfits weren't updated but i can live with that
The story was very well written and felt straight out of Season 2
And even excluding all of the other things i mentioned, it was just a fun read..like at no point did i feel bored or drained while reading it
11/10 for sure

Jason votes for him after the "Joker alive = no corruption" interview.
Can a political candidate normally get away with inciting a murder? Nah. But Danny is a teenager - he's popular, sure, but at the end of the day he's a kid. No one thinks he'll really win he's just taken as a bit of lighthearted fun. His campaign brings up the mood in Gotham for a while; they figure he'll get maybe third place and then everyone will move on with their lives.
They underestimate the power of memes (many are spawned from his campaign).
He wins the election and the city council is absolutely scrabbling to convince this kid to take back his words (because "inciting murder is wrong" and tooooootally not at all bc they want him to seem bribable to the criminals of the city. Ofc the council isn't corrupt whaaaaat? Nah)
Spoiler alert: he doubles down.
The Joker's dismembered corpse is left on the steps of city hall on his 4th day in office & Red Hood appears behind him just as the news clip rolls with a duffle bag of 100s.
Gotham hasn't been declared No Man's Land yet but the government sure has offloaded a lot to make Gotham more self-reliant (ie on its own)
They might regret that a little when Danny's 5th day in office sees the Red Hood pardoned for all crimes (at least within Gotham - outside he might be fair game but in it? Man is smelling like roses legally).
Danny also announces he's now unbribable for a different reason but fails to elaborate (Jason's bribe was both for the pardon and for him not to be bribed by anyone else for the rest of his term)
As for Jason? He skipped to killing the Joker himself instead of still waiting for Bruce to do it because a) no more Joker, b) he doesn't have to watch his new favorite politician be subject to Clown Bullshit (TM) and c) he thought it'd be funny to watch Bruce figure out how to react without the whole "what you wrong" thing to fall back on because he was all but government sanctioned Bruce-y
When Danny announces he is suddenly permanently un-bribable & won't explain the kidnapping attempts start up
The gangs figure, hey, maybe if he's scared he'll spill. And if he doesn't they can forget bribes altogether and just do threats.
Problem: he keeps. Escaping.
Kidnap him? He disappears the moment all eyes are off of him. Cameras randomly glitch. People start to think he's a meta, but when the accusation goes public he just publishes his test results (the Fentons tested themselves & their kids in the hopes one of them would have the gene so they could try to force-awaken it as some kind of ghost-hunting power. None of them had the gene, lucky for Jazz & Danny)
Ofc a niche population still thinks he's a meta, because since when has official documentation been enough to convince some people of information.
Oh well, they think. He still has family. He used his salary to get a separate apartment, but his parents were all too happy to move to Gotham (thankfully the portal stayed in Amity & since they weren't there it stayed closed), deciding to hunt Robin.
Yeah.
Batman ages, grows, his voice changes.
Robin is never quite an adult, always shifting back. Always changing. Ergo, Robin = evil ghost mind controlling Batman for nefarious purposes, possibly the reason Gotham is still so bad despite having so many vigilantes. (They disagree with but respect Danny's theory that Batman is a crime lord).
Attempts to kidnap the other Fentons are disastrous.
Maddie leaves a trail of broken bodies in her wake. Always calls the proper authorities, always goes through the proper channels, and always gets an easy self-defense ruling (she doesn't even need Danny's help given the numerous cameras & other recording devices she constantly has active on her person).
Jack is a mountain, but with his personality and Maddie's track record they give it a go.
He thinks they've come for a weapons upgrade, snatching the gun shoved in his face before critiquing it as he ushers the small group that had been sent to their doorstep into the basement - they remain compliant, seeing the imprints left on the guns barrel from his fingers (Jack Fenton is fully human but he's all muscle. And Fenton weapons are denser, heavier than normal. guns He expected to need more grip to hold it but no matter, he can apologize for the damage by giving them an extra ecto-weapon).
Even with the portal back in Amity, they've brought plenty of weapons. He describes each of their functions with glee, and the sprinkled in mentions of ghosts are taken as a threat - especially with how he carelessly waves barrels in their faces, paying no mind to how they leap for cover.
They pale when he hefts the bazooka without breaking a sweat and demonstrates by obliterating a shooting target and tearing hole through the Earth and into the next basement over.
Maddie is the one who rescues them, reminding Jack they might just be neighbors offering them mundane weapons to cope with life in Gotham (she's not giving her ecto-weapons to a bunch of criminals).
The patented Jack Fenton Back Slap nearly breaks one dudes spine when Jack apologizes for the misunderstanding, and Maddie helps his usher them back out the door with narrowed eyes.
(Then Jack & Maddie work on the patented Fenton Apology Casserole for their basement neighbor)
The first group to go after Jazz ends up on the business end of Harley Quinn's Hammer. (Aye psychology buddies!)
The next ends up fed to Poison Ivy's plants (she was delivering a message from Sam & since Harley is fond of Jazz...)
The third time they discover Jazz...has Fenton weapons. But she can't aim. She closes her eyes & shoots wildly. She gets one in the eyes. One gets shot in the unmentionables. A third, the knee. A fourth, the kidney (yeah he pees himself & also loses said kidney).
Of course she feels awful for hurting them so badly & calls an ambulance while giving them basic first aid and critiquing their life choices/tearing their apart their thought processes.
Sam & Tucker are still in Amity at this point (Sam knows she can lure her parents easily enough with the promise of playing nice with the Waynes, but she's waiting for Tucker to either get a WE internship or test into Gotham U courses so he can convince his parents & they can move at the same time)
So ofc the gangs move to assassination attempts.
Every single one fails.
Sniper? The Sniper was the only witness & everyone else believes Danny when he says he dodged it. Sure there's shattered glass and a hole in the chair where his head would be, but he hasn't got a scratch and everyone knows he's not a meta (or an alien - the human parents are proof of that even if they didn't have his medical records, which they do).
But the Sniper saw the bullet disappear through his head before shattering a bust. He knows and it's driving him crazy.
Poison? Danny grew up around ecto-contamination & now he has a ghost-half that can blitz stuff from his system with ecto. He's fine. Maybe some of his meals are 'spicier than I thought they'd be' but he's fine.
Direct attacks for stabbing & the like? He can fight. He's scrappy. He's the feral racoon of the family with all of the training Maddie gave them in hand to hand. His approval rating skyrocket when a guy tries to stab him and - rather than dodge or grab the arm throw him or something - doubles over to meet the wrist where it is and bites it before the knife can make contact.
The guy drops the knife but Danny just bites down harder. Then drops to his knees and whirls around - taking the guy with him - to pin the attacker in place with his own arms/legs. Still biting the guy's wrist. The move is reminiscent of how crocodiles take down prey & it becomes a meme.
And the Fentons being related to Killer Croc becomes a theory.
Jack & Maddie be like: Perhaps an evil ghost kidnapped a long lost relative & dropped him in Gotham? Maybe crocodile is anti-ghost meta gene? Can Crocodile is be good at hunt ghost? Adopt? Adopt crocodile murder man???
So yeah Jack & Maddie are now hunting killer croc to adopt/reform/turn into a ghost hunter
Danny runs for Mayor
Simple Prompt: Danny runs for the Gotham Mayor position
Extended Prompt: Danny is an absolute little shit throughout his entire campaign but still manages to win because he is legitimately one of the best candidates around
Just imagine the crack that could come from this!
Reporter: What is your stance on Vigilantism? Danny: Well I agree that Vigilantes are helpful for the communities that need them, and they should work with the police at every opportunity, I feel like the idea will always be a city where Vigilantes are not needed. Also I fail to see the relevancy of the question, there are no vigilantes in Gotham Reporter: What do you mean? What about the Bat-Family? Danny: No, Batman isn’t a Vigilante. Batman is a Crime Lord.
Or
Danny: As mayor, I promise that I will not be infected by corruption. Not because of my moral standings, but because I absolutely fucking hate clowns and I will never accept a bribe as long as that guy is still alive. Yes this is me putting a hit out on the Joker. Crime Bosses, if you want to try and bribe me, you gotta kill him first or I won’t even consider it!
Or
Batman: Why is a Meta-Human running for Gotham Office? You know this city doesn’t have a very good track record with people like you. Even the Signal had a rough start. Danny: Well, I just had a strong compulsion to help this city reach the peak of it’s potential *looks over Batman’s shoulder to see Lady Gotham holding up Cue Cards telling him what to say. She promised to help with his paperwork for the next 50 years if he became Mayor and helped fix her city* Danny: Such a strong compulsion…
Or
Penguin: Look kid, I don’t care if you have enough power to destroy me at the subatomic level, I have enough money to ruin you, your sister, your parents, even your uncle! Danny: Oh really? I could get the souls of every person you have ever killed to get confessions out of them. Or I could give them the power to rip you apart. Or I could even just possess you and donate all your money to charity.
Or
Danny: Oh god dammit! Vlad: Hello Badger! Glad to see you followed in my footsteps instead of your fathers! Danny: This wasn’t because of you! Lady Gotham asked for help! Vlad: A WIN IS A WIN!

This may be a minor gripe but something that has kind of bothered me about discussions and depictions of Dan is how often people seem to forget that Dan isn't just an older evil Danny, he's a combination of Danny and Vlad's ghost sides. Like people always talk about him like Danny threw away his humanity and turned evil but that's not even true. Sure, we can say that Dan is the result of Danny's action but that's a little unfair. (1/2)
(2/2) Him cheating on a test, coincidentally putting his loved one's in a position where they could be killed, is absolutely not his fault. Letting Vlad take away his ghost powers with a strange contraption might not have been the smartest move, but we are talking about a grieving CHILD here, of course he isn't going to make the best decisions. If anything Vlad's the one to blame here, and even then, it's not like he could predict what happened
---
you aren't wrong, my friend. it really isn't entirely danny's fault and the whole 'if you cheat on a test, you'll loose everything you love' moral is confused at best. i think as fandom we find it more interesting to look at danny's potential evil and moral struggle with himself. so simplifying it to be dan is a worse case scenario of danny makes the conflict less abstract.
particularly because when it comes to self blame danny isn't going to go easy on himself just because it was excusable mistakes.
i think another talking point should be how danny is the target of the time assassination more than vlad is, even though vlad is part of the evil whole. you could argue that danny is the catalyst of his friends death and vlad inventing the claw things. but vlad invented the claw things. maybe because his human side survived and acted relatively harmless from then on? or maybe it's because the observants based on the available evidence recognized danny as more of a threat. i think that fits actually, for all vlad tried to be an evil mastermind, his achievements outside of terrorizing a teenager and theft isn't particularly impressive. danny was the one who got shit done. all his fights he finished one way or another and i could see how that would bleed into dan defeating everyone.
the real question is how to we fix this. ideally we could shape this idea so it's less confused, though i do honestly find the dynamic of half danny, half vlad interesting. if for not other reason. than two half ghosts make a whole. actually that's something else to be said about dan. his self-loathing is what led him to killing his human half, another negative aspect coming from danny.
i wonder if we could frame it like fusion, from su. obviously dan isn't stable or healthy, or based on love. he's most comparable to malichite. but with less internal debate. dan took the best and worst of both of them. danny's determination, danny's fighting ability, danny's anger, danny's sarcasm, vlad's anger, vlads lack of morals, vlads schemes, vlad's control. heck, vlads desire to rule the world. i don't think we ever got that from danny.
maybe if vlad was more involved in the fight with dan it could have been used as an opportunity to compare and contrast their characters. to go we're not so different you and i. danny gets to recognize that he has that dark potential. vlad gets to be humbled by the fact that what he wants isn't good for anyone, especially himself. and to be fair, we do see some of that humbling with future vlad, but none of that character growth is given to present vlad, so, really it's just another vehicle for danny angst. it also depends on what you want to do with vlad though. he's a fascinating character and could be given redemption under the right circumstances or be a character who has the opportunity for redemption but chooses not to be redeemed every time.
that fits him and makes him both a more pathetic and despicable villain. it's hard to pity someone who ignores the opportunities to heal and grow.
as for danny, he becomes far more aware of the consequences his actions, especially his selfish and cruel ones can have. because that potential was always there. he has a history of abusing his powers. perhaps for this specific incident him abusing his powers can be something less understandable than almost cheating on a test that he couldn't study for through no fault of his own. (maybe i just have flexible morals?). maybe it could be something more character relevant, like he did something particularly vlad like, maybe he set up a prank at the nasty burger to get dash but it set off the explosion that killed his family. or maybe he did something particularly cruel and manipulative. there are better catalysts than a test. either way he recognized that he should never go that far again and strive to avoid being actively cruel.
he also has the opportunity to recognize that vlad does have a human half, even the one he's fighting everyday. he can face some conflict in it's not entirely clear what trait belongs to vlad and what trait belongs to him. he can empathize with vlad and he can recognize that situations aren't always in black in white. those who fly the highest, fall the hardest, after all.
it can be a growing experience. and while making it solely a danny goes bad and learns not to do evil kind of story. maybe we could cut vlad from the equation and just have danny face himself, full evil refection. i think exploring both vlad and danny through this fusion is far more interesting. especially because we can build on what's revealed about vlad in these episodes, in later ones. danny sees a future where vlad chills and that maybe his vlad could get their. later he see vlads past and what he lost to become who he is.
and then there's vlads turning point episodes. i don't know when motherly instinct took place but maddie fully recognizing he's a bastard and rejection him, was a turning point for his sanity, and danny helped it along. then we have danny rejecting him repeatedly, then we the clone episode, which we can all agree was a desperate move on his part, that danny once again thwarted. and we can all agree that this was the cannon turning point for his character where he stopped fighting for a family and started trying to be danny's villain. in that episode, i think danny could potentially pity vlad enough to try and reach out. he's not going to justify what vlad did and he's not going to apologize for stopping him. he went too far. he hurt danny and dani, he crossed a moral line that can't be justified even with his desperation. but if he changes...
he lost this time but if he changes, maybe they'll reach the point where they're ready to accept him.
i think the same thing could be said about his relationship with jack and maddie. if he changes, if he reaches out. if acts like less of a crazy fruitloop, his friends would be there for him. jack is still trying to be there for him, even if he's being oblivious about vlad's faults. vlads the one driving wedges into his relationships and pushing everyone away.
and that's so freaking human and understandable.it would be such a cool thing to explore with his character.
i could also see a potential arc where after valerie finds out vlad and masters are the same person she tries to get close to him, both to sus out how evil he is and to understand him as a halfa. afterall danny got her to acknowledge dani as human enough, the same would apply to vlad/plasmius, right? only he's a bad person and the more she uncovers about vlad masters the man, the more she realizes it's not the ghost half that's evil. but this is a double edged sword because, vlad is getting attached to her and encouraging her to be more evil. he's encouraging her to go darker and darker in her fight against ghosts and her fight specifically against phantom. to the point where she finally draws the line and says, i'm not doing that! boom exploring the moral ambiguity of her character and getting her to take a hard stance on her morals, because there's a line too far for her.
and boom a further breakdown of vlads character because he finally had someone outside the fentons to redeem him. she could have helped pull him out of the hole he'd been digging himself into. she wanted to help him. he got attached to her, but he and his bad decisions decided to dig himself deeper instead. so once again he's 'abandoned and betrayed'.
from that point, i think it'd be time for him to finally face jack head on. not through manipulative schemes. not through veiled threats and insults. but the full confrontation of 'i always hated you. you ruined my life. you're the reason i lost everything'. which is really just his own self loathing speaking. and jack... empathetic jack can see that vlad desperately wants help. and jack would offer it to him. jack would try to hug it out and apologize and give vlad the love and friendship vlad's been fighting to steal this whole time.
and vlad would reject it.
he'd probably lash out a jack and go into a full breakdown/world destroying attack. could finally put the stolen crown to use and try declaring himself king and embracing his megalomaniac thing and actually be a threat this time. and THAT would be our series finally. everyone teaming up to fight 'king vlad'. danny probably finding out that he's technically king because he beat pariah dark but the matter being a bit confused because he had help. val and danny trying to find the ring of rage or at least find someone who can make one. secrets are out. i imagine vlad, upon revealing himself to jack would out danny to make danny as sad and alone as him. except nope, his family still loves him and val has had the character development to come around to him. (she's still gonna punch danny for lying for so long.) the ghosts will come and help because no one wants another tyrannical kind and vlads obviously off his rocker.
ah, the could have beens
anyway, i didn't mean for this to become a full vlad character analysis and rewrite when we were supposed to be talking about dan, but hey, i'm a simple creature. i like good writing, and i have to rewrite things myself, so be it. - Hestia

So I don’t really know that much about that my blood au you created could you tell me a bit about it?
Tumblr media
Ha hah I Hope this is Edible
So My Blood Au is just Me dumping all the cool stuff i can think of into a DP what if Vlad is Good ^For Starter MB Vlad or Vladimir Jude Masters is a Paranormal investigater/ hunter/exocist in a sense. He seemingly Perfect in People eye, Not Really on the inside as he have many problem stem from living so long and going though alots of thing that he prefer not to talk about that he hide from People , go so far as to adjust his own emotion to what he find fit to the situration making him really hard to read. (Not Jack and Danielle, those are close enough 2 peel him like an onion if they sense something off). -Vlad And Danny are not same kind of Halfa in this AU, Vlad is Two soul (Half Blue Demon Vampire Ghost, Half Human twisted together and blend into one) and Danny is Soul within soul (Going though the accident give him two identical soul that over lapped each other) -Ghost are nerf and ecto beam and ecto Base attack can harm ghost but they can't harm Physical thing in living world Unless they are infuse with Core element same with Human entering Purgatory. -The world have 5 Realm: LivingWorld, Purgatory (GhostZone), Elsewhereness, Fairy Land and Unworld. +Going with the idea that originaly Vlad is supposed to be a vampire and many ghost in the series feel like they are more supernature creature then Ghost. Living world now have many Human and other Creature living among each other , hidden in plain sight +Purgatory: Where Ghost go and heal before they move onto Elsewhereness (Heaven in this verse) or Rebirth back to the living cycle. There are many area in Purgatory that fit human decription of after life look like , this is due to collective faith and ideal of many Ghost focus with each other to created these Resting stop. Incidentally like the living world these area are also watch over by being call King and Queen of the Death (Caretaker and protector of the Death soul, a being with incredible power capable of bending reality). Most well known one are the King Dark, Prince Argon and Princess Dora of the Dark Age Zone. Queen Desire of the thousand and one night. ect.. newest King of the death is Ghost Writer (library of the forgotten) but he prefer not be refer to as king, just Ghost writer. +Elsewhereness: The final resting Places of enternal Bliss. Once the Soul is ready to let go of all earthly desire, they are send here. Not much is known about this realm or it location. When a Soul reach enlightment it will automatically know where to find it. The realm also House many god. +Fairy Land: Home to care taker of the childhood inocent and many god that work to keep the universe running. Most common creature that live here is Fairy with two side one silly colorful side that appear to children to granted what ever their heart desire. The other is the Blue fortune side that Weaved the fabric of Luck and fate. +Unworld: A Dark realm with one way in no way out. It house many dangerous creature, ancient outer god and unspeakable Evil that have been banish to through age by god and human. >the Origin Story: +Vlad and Jack are Friend from Childhood (Their Bond are really tight kinda like Sworn Brother ) unlike their canon counter part meet in college. They Hunt Ghost but in more of a Release soul from their earthly bound kind of way via the info they get from the Masters Family Grilmore. (There is one major inconvience is that You need to wait for the correct day and time to perform ritual sending ghost back to purgatory so they can Move on to Elsewhereness/heaven of this verse ) +They Meet Maddie in college (Maddie and Vlad almost alway in a total clash with each other with Maddie tech almost Hunter like way in dealing with ghost and Vlad more traditional Way of Handling them) Which end with Three of them forming the Original Ghost Trio. With Maddie accept Vlad and Jack Respect the Death ideal. And Vlad and Jack incorperate More Technology into their Asset. +Maddie point out the inconvinient of having to wait for the correct day for each ghost to send them back to Purgatory (Their room are fill with
Container for ghost), Which lead to them comming up with the idea of Making a Ghost Portal. <Note: MB Vlad is not into Romantic relationship, Platonic one Matter to him more> >The Accident: No diet soda the Accident is purely due to one miscalculation that cost Vlad life (his Head got Blash Clean off infront of Jack and Maddie) In that Split Second of His face getting disintigrating, Vlad get a Glim into UnWorld (the Realm where are Demon and evil of the four realm are banish to) and Got Latched on and Pushed Back to the living world by a Demon Vampire Ghost Both Soul are now inhabited Vlad headless lifeless body, in Which about 3 day after Vlad burial that Vlad Body got completely decontructed inside the coffin and recontructed into a body that is more fitting to host both . Vlad have a hard time remembering Who he is after kinda get rebirth and Wander the world until he Get Suck into a Natural Ghost Portal and got Flunk Back in time. >Journey of an Immortal Being: -Vlad Stuck in the Past, He recovered his memories, Going through existenal crisis, Evil phase, Evil make me feel bad, Not Evil anymore, Found out that he is immortal now, Existenal crisis part2, Acceptance, Travel the World and Start doing the what ever he like, learning old way of magic still helping ghost and other supernatural being. -Caused several Major Change to the past that Mythical Creature got un extinct. (Due to the Law of life and death this does not affect who get born or not, it just that the world got alots more races now and those used to be born human in the original timeline might get born as another races entirely) -Get Mistaken for Messiah.( Look You can't kill Vlad, He would just be gone for like 3 day then comeback) -Caused the legend of Dracula. -Vampire cult have a horrible obession with Vlad as a Whole. Look like vampire act like one, can walk in plain day light and more importantly the ability to Open a Portal to Unworld . ( Vlad don't use this ability much and can only open small one as it is very energy consuming) -Meet his own ancestor Which is the Fentonightingale that Later Splited into Fenton and Nightingale (later change to Masters) leading to revealation that Jack and Him might be very distant Related. -Bickering With Time God (Do not trust the Clock Man that work for the Eyes) -Get Caught in War far too many time. -Meet Phantom (an odd entity that is oddly clingy to him) in the Great War. -Meet Other Some of the DP ghost when they still alive -The Horrible Bar incident that reveal Phantom true nature, an evil being that wish to turn the world back to it original nature of nothiness and try to turn vlad to the his side, Kill, Seal in Rock Case covered with Sigil to prevent Phantom from escape, Chuck it into the ocean. - The Contruction of the Coffin Ghost Portal. Shrinking Problems
Summary: When Danny is assigned to write a calaverita for English, he finds a way to use the comedic poem to help him cope with recurring nightmares. For Dia de (Medio) Muertos 2021 @dp-medio-muertos
https://archiveofourown.org/works/34889782
“And that, children, is how people celebrate the Day of the Dead,” Lancer summarized, a look of pride on his face at another lecture well-executed. “And since the Day of the Dead is in five days, in case you can’t count because you are too absorbed in Halloween, I’m going to leave you with an assignment.” Groans echoed through the classroom, but it appeared that Lancer had grown immune to them during his many years of teaching as he continued unfazed. “We talked about literary calaveritas, yes? I want each of you to write one.” More groans emerged, but Lancer continued on. “Remember the key points we talked about: they have to be living, they have to rhyme, and please, for my sake, try to make them clever. We’ll read them aloud on November second.”
The bell rang as soon as Lancer finished speaking. Not for the first time, Danny wondered if he was somehow capable of timing the end of his lecture to the exact moment the bell rang. It wouldn’t surprise him. He gathered his books and headed outside with his friends.
“Write a poem? You gotta be kidding me,” Tucker groaned. “I do not want to write a poem.”
“I don’t know, this actually doesn’t sound half-bad,” Sam shrugged as she opened her locker. “Besides, I kinda like the idea of being able to joke about someone’s death and have it actually be okay.”
“Of course you would like it,” Danny pointed out as he switched out his English notebook for his math textbook. “All those gothic romances you read, plus the whole poetry thing - this must be right up your alley.”
“Hey, witty, comedic poems are not the same as the dark, existential poems I read,” Sam defended as she slammed her locker door shut. “But it’s not as bad as some of the other assignments from Lancer.”
“I think it’s just as bad as all the others,” Tucker complained. “Man, now I have to pick someone to write about. Obviously it has to be a tech genius, but which one…”
Sam rolled her eyes. “Or you could pick someone who actually deserves the honor of being mentioned in a calaverita, like one of the animal rights activists I follow.”
“Ooh, are they going to get killed by one of the animals they’re trying to protect?” Tucker asked with a laugh, which stopped when Sam hit his arm with her book. “Hey!”
“So Danny, who do you think you’ll write about?” Sam asked as a way to change the subject. “Some NASA astronaut or an actor from Star Wars?”
Danny shrugged. “Honestly? I wasn’t even planning on doing it. Halloween is coming up, which means I’m going to be so busy fighting ghosts I’m not going to find the time to write it even if I wanted to, so I’m not going to even worry about it.”
They stepped into their math classroom, and all the talk of the calaverita assignment stopped and didn’t pick up again. The three friends had more important things to talk about than rehashing a conversation about homework, and the rest of the day continued on as it normally did. Danny didn’t even think about the assignment again until lunch two days later, when he overheard Dash boasting about how he wanted to write his calaverita about Phantom because they “shared a bond” after the shrinking incident. He wanted to point out that “bond” must be pretty one-sided because they hadn’t interacted since, but Fenton wasn’t supposed to know that, so he let it go. Besides, he preferred spending as much time outside his locker as possible.
That night, he had a dream about his evil future self and woke with a start, shirt drenched in sweat. He had no idea what triggered the dream about Dan, but then again he never really did. Jazz had tried to figure out if there was some common thread connecting these dreams - stress, a reminder, using specific ghost powers - but as far as he knew she hadn’t made any connections yet. He pulled out his phone and noted in the little tracker Jazz set up that he had another dream and that it focused on their final battle before he sucked Dan up in the thermos. He still thought tracking these dreams was annoying, mostly because it resulted in Jazz asking him a million questions the next day, but if she could figure out a way to stop these dreams...he’d take it. He couldn’t sleep and thought of doing his homework - that calaverita project still hung over his shoulders - but he quickly dismissed that crazy thought as soon as he had it and switched to a video game instead.
Halloween turned out to be as busy as he remembered from last year, but he did get a chance to spend some time trick-or-treating on Tucker’s maximum candy route. He put a lot of thought into his costume - the navy blue one-piece suit with string lights attached to it (by Jazz) to resemble a galaxy - and he was glad he got to wear it at least for a little while. But the excitement of Halloween also meant that he didn’t give any thought to his homework at all, and promptly fell asleep once the last of the ghosts finally stopped celebrating Halloween in their own destructive way.
It wasn’t until the next day that he actually gave the assignment some thought. As he soared around the city patrolling for any lingering ghosts who decided that Halloween celebrations could go on another day, he stopped short in the air as inspiration hit him. A comical take on death? A way he could maybe work through some of his nightmares? Maybe he did have an idea for his calaverita after all… He spent the remainder of his patrol coming up with ideas and dictating into his phone before he finally returned home to actually do a homework assignment. Lancer was going to lose his mind…
~*~
After being summoned with a quick text message, Sam walked into Danny’s room with Tucker close behind her. “Okay Danny, what was so important to show us?” Sam asked. Both of them looked curious to find him at his desk, and he realized they probably thought it was ghost-related. Well, it kinda was, but not in the way they likely thought.
“Guys, I’ve been working on this all afternoon,” Danny announced proudly as he spun around in his chair. “It’s that dumb calaverita project Lancer assigned us.”
“Wait, that’s what you wanted to show us?” Tucker asked, looking crestfallen. “Man, I thought it was like some new power or something cool, not your homework.”
Sam also looked disappointed, but then it switched to curiosity. “I thought you said you were going to ignore the assignment?”
“Well, I was going to, but while I was flying around town it just...I dunno kinda fell into place,” Danny shrugged. “I think it’s called inspiration? I’m not really sure. But no, doing this actually kind of...helped me in a way? I can’t really explain it. I’m sure Jazz could if I wanted to listen to her talk at me for two hours. But seriously, just read it,” he offered as he slid his chair aside to give them access to the computer.
Both of the friends sighed but walked over to the computer to indulge Danny and read what was probably Danny’s first attempt at poetry since he was a child.
Phantom squared off with the dark, evil ghost named Dan.
“Wait, you wrote it about Dan?” Sam interrupted immediately, concern in her eyes. “Are you insane?!”
“I thought these were supposed to be about people we liked!” Tucker added.
“Are you sure it was a good idea to focus on him long enough to write this?” Sam asked.
“Just keep reading,” Danny groaned. “You’ll see why I did in a minute.”
Phantom squared off with the dark, evil ghost named Dan. A foreign invention gripped securely in his hand. “You think you can stop me?” the dark ghost chillingly laughed. “To come back for more - you must truly be daft.”
“Save it,” the heroic ghost promptly dismissed. “For what you’ve done? I’m gonna make sure you won’t exist. “I’m done with you threatening and hurting my town. “So needless to say, you are so going down.”
Dan cackled maniacally, his sneer hard to look at. “Really? And how, pray tell, do you propose to do that?” His frightening demeanor would chill most to the bone, But Phantom stayed firm, resolute, and he held his own.
“With this,” he announced as he readied the invention. Dan regarded the device with great apprehension. He looked at the wide opening, the cylindrical back, And once he recognized it, he was taken aback.
“I told you,” Phantom grinned, “you’re going down – literally.” He took aim and pulled the trigger, his face full of glee. A green light shot out and enveloped the cruel ghost, Before he could respond with an attack or riposte.
“Riposte, Danny?” Sam asked with an arched eyebrow as she looked up from the computer screen.
“What? I can use Google and rhyme generators just like the rest of you,” Danny defended as he crossed his arms over his chest. “Just keep reading.”
Sam shook her head while Tucker gave him a thumbs up before they both turned their attention back to the computer screen.
The ultimate enemy’s imposing form shrunk. And his power level dropped by a massive chunk. Down, down, down he went, his figure kept getting smaller, Until he was the size of a bug or creepy crawler.
He looked up at Phantom, his face filled with terror. And when he saw Phantom’s boot, he realized his error. Unable to fly, he tried desperately to run, But his tiny legs didn’t get far; he knew he was done.
With one quick step, Phantom advanced on Dan’s retreating back, And he slammed his boot down in a single attack. He squished him on the street, like a bug under his shoe, And gave it a twist back and forth, just to see it through.
He felt relief, knowing that evil was now at bay, As Dan finally met his final death that day.
Danny focused on their faces as he watched them read, and he could tell when they hit the bit about the Fenton Crammer because their faces lit up and Tucker burst out laughing. He had no idea why, but the thought of Dan being squished like a bug felt so belittling and so satisfying. Taking this incredibly powerful foe - the one he struggled so hard to fight and the one he barely defeated - and giving him such an ignoble death made him seem less terrifying. Maybe getting this much joy out of an enemy’s death was a bad sign, and probably wasn’t within the spirit of a true calaverita, but seeing Tucker and Sam laugh made him feel a bit better about his own reaction towards that mental image.
Once they were done reading Sam burst out laughing and Tucker cheered. “Dude, that was so satisfying! I didn’t know I needed that until right now!” Tucker applauded.
“Thinking about that smug face under your boot? Priceless,” Sam agreed.
“Right?” Danny said. “Maybe I’ll dream about this instead of, you know, all the other dreams I usually get.”
The reminder of Danny’s recurrent Dan nightmares darkened the room for a moment as the three of them fell quiet. Sam cast Danny a sympathetic look, and he immediately regretted saying it. He hadn’t kept the nightmares a secret from them, because he just couldn’t do that to them, but he hated reminding him that this specific ghost plagued his psyche more than any other and there was nothing any of them could really do about it.
Finally Tucker looked up, a smile on his face. “Okay, but do you think he made a squeaking sound when he got squished? Or did his voice get all high pitched and squeaky?”
Danny broke out into laughter, which spread to the other two. Trust Tucker to lift the mood with a joke. He could always count on him to get his head back in the game, and this was no exception. They carried on with the jokes and the laughs, which turned into elaborations or recreations of the shrinking Dan story until finally their laughter died down.
“Let’s hope Lancer won’t want to read that one aloud,” Tucker said as he shifted on Danny’s bed. “That would be a fun one to explain.”
“Especially to Dash,” Sam added.
Danny waved his hand dismissively. “Nah, it’s fine. This is Dash we’re talking about. He’s too dumb to put those pieces together. It’ll be fine.”
Sam looked doubtful, and opened her mouth to argue further until Tucker sat straight up on the bed and blinked a couple times. “So uh wait...why didn’t we actually do that to him? Or to any other ghost for that matter?” he asked, which silenced the entire room. They looked back and forth at each other with wide, dumbfounded eyes.
“He...he actually has a point,” Sam finally said. “Why aren’t we shrinking and sucking the power out of every ghost we fight?”
“I don’t...I don’t actually know?” Danny replied, voice unsure. After experiencing the effects of the Fenton Crammer himself, he hadn’t really given the invention that much thought outside of how annoying being that tiny had been. “After that whole incident with Dash...I don’t even know what happened to it. I should...I should probably find that thing…”
“I can’t believe we didn’t think about this before!” Tucker cried out. “I mean, you could just shrink them and every ghost battle would be over in a second! We need to find this invention.”
“There’s got to be a reason we hadn’t already thought of this,” Danny tried to reason. “I mean, there has to be.”
“Yeah I can think of a reason - you guys are dumb,” Sam chuckled.
“Hey, you didn’t think of it either!” Danny protested.
“And I’m not the one doing extra work because I forgot about an invention that was actually used against me,” she pointed out, hands on her hips.
Danny stood up. “Fine, then we’re going to go find that invention. Right now.” If that invention was still sitting up in the Op Center and still worked...he was going to feel pretty foolish. But there had to be a bigger reason why he didn’t think about it or hadn’t even seen it since that one incident. Maybe he just knew it wasn’t working or it had actually been destroyed, or some other big, convenient reason why he never used it or saw it used except for that one time. There had to be, he was sure of it.
“Alright, let’s go,” Sam agreed, and she and Tucker followed Danny out of his room to go hunting for the elusive Fenton Crammer.
They searched high and low through the Op Center, but found nothing (which left Danny feeling very vindicated). Not to leave a good idea uninvestigated, they continued their search in the basement, theorizing that their parents maybe moved the weapon downstairs. Tucker and Sam did most of the searching (Danny learned a long time ago not to stick random hands in random drawers) but still their search came up empty.
“Wait! I got it!” Danny finally cried as he snapped his fingers. “Under my parents’ bed.”
“Come again?” Sam asked.
“Why would an invention be under your parents’ bed?” Tucker pondered as he furrowed his brow. “Actually you know what, I don’t actually want to know the answer to that question.”
Danny immediately covered his ears with his hands. “Oh gross! Don’t even go there Tucker! No! Dad sometimes sleepwalks back into bed with stuff in his hands and stuffs them under the bed when he wakes up. There are definitely inventions under there.” He remembered hearing his mom complain about things she would find under there the few times a year she would clean under the bed. If anything went missing in the Fenton home, it was a tie between being sucked into an alternate portal and under the Fenton patriarch’s side of the bed.
“I do not want to go digging for things under your parents’ bed,” Tucker stated adamantly as he crossed his arms over his chest.
“Well I’m not going to do it! Do you remember last time? I almost lost a finger!” Danny exclaimed as he held up his right hand. He was pretty sure he had lost the finger, were it not for some of his ghostly regeneration kicking in at the clutch.
“Fine you babies, I’ll do it,” Sam sighed, and she marched up the steps to Jack and Maddie’s bedroom. The two of them followed after her, and by the time they made it up the stairs she was already digging around under the bed. “Oh god! There’s food under here! Oh gross!” she complained.
“And this is why I didn’t volunteer,” Tucker mentioned.
“Oh yup, the Fenton Ghost Sucker is under here,” Sam’s muffled voice said from under the bed.
“And that is why I didn’t volunteer,” Danny said, feeling vindicated. Last time he encountered that mechanical leech it took them days to figure out how to get it off, all while it drained his ectoplasm. “But seriously, you should grab those and we can hide them with the rest of the dangerous inventions.”
“Noted,” she said as she grabbed it and pulled her hand out from under the bed. Tucker walked over to grab it and put it safely inside a thermos, which he stored in his backpack. “Ah, dang. I think I found it.” Sam emerged from under the bed with the broken down remains of the Fenton Crammer. “Looks like your dad must have been ‘improving’ it.”
“Darn!” Tucker sighed as he scuffed his foot on the carpet. “That had actually been a really good idea!”
“Oh come on, we all knew that would have been too easy,” Sam said as she brushed dust bunnies out of her hair. Danny reached over and turned her intangible, which allowed the dust and lint to fall through her. She thanked him with a small smile.
“Yeah, it would have been too good to be true,” Danny replied. “Still, it was worth checking.
“Hey, at least we’ll still have your calaverita and the wonderful mental images to remember it by,” Sam suggested.
“Yeah, that’s true,” Danny agreed. “Besides, it’s not like we’ll ever need it against Dan anyways, right?”
“That’s right,” Tucker said confidently. “Because he’s trapped in a thermos and not coming back. So Fenton Crammer Fenton Shmammer - who needs it? We don’t.”
“We definitely don’t,” Sam seconded.
Danny gave his two friends warm smiles. Their unconditional support meant so much to him, and while the Fenton Crammer did seem like a fun and satisfying way to end the threat of his ultimate enemy, his friends were his real weapon, and with them by his side...he could conquer any threat, be it ghost, nightmare, or anything in between.
A/N: Yeah there is one big convenient reason...it’s called they unknowingly created a device too powerful they couldn’t use it again and it conveniently had to never be mentioned again haha.
So this idea of using the Fenton Crammer against a more powerful ghost has actually been in my mind for a long time. I was actually gonna write it as like a little spoof after Secret Uncovered finished as a celebration, but this seems like a much better medium for the idea. But seriously...the Fenton Crammer is a darn powerful invention, probably too powerful. (And yes, I know it takes time for the power to drain, but it would still be effective)
Also why did I add more angst to my funny??

Dan Redemption with a twist
So I'm still geeking out over my ask that @stillebesat answered a few days ago, the one where about an upcoming fic. I've been playing around with a really similar idea, with a redeemed Dan fusing with a clone of Danny, for months now.
Here's my idea:
First of all, my preferred version of Dan is basically Danny but evil. He less fused with Plasmius and more consumed his powers so Dan doesn't have any of Vlad's memories. Next, I'm a big fan of the idea that Dan deeply regrets killing his human half and is, for lack of a better word, haunted by the action. It was the first death of his reign of terror, his final chance to turn back from the dark path he was on and...it was his suicide.
Now, Dan doesn't realize any of this for what feels like centuries. He's trapped in the Fenton thermos in Clockwork's lair, alone with only his thoughts. And the knowledge starts creeping in, all that he'd lost, all that he'd done. He realizes that he misses his friends and family and to his surprise, he hopes his younger self saved them. But then he realized that he tried to kill them. And the guilt starts creeping in. The regret follows and he remembers all the rest of his crimes. He doesn't have enough humanity, enough emotional capacity to be wrecked but he's no longer a rage fueled destructive monster.
Then to Dan's shook, Clockwork releases him without a word. The master of time dumps him in the new timeline, maybe a few months after the events of TUE. To his dim relief, Dan finds that his friends and family are all still alive. He watches them for a while, trying to process where he is and what happened. But then he runs into Danny. And things don't go well. It's a rocky start. Danny does not trust Dan at all. He doesn't trust that the older ghost has no intention of hurting his loved ones. Danny is ready and willing to fight and recapture him. The younger's opinion doesn't change until Dan saves him and Jazz during a ghost attack. The two ghosts, at Jazz's insistence, come to an uneasy impasse. Danny will leave Dan alone if the older ghost leaves him and his family alone. Dan isn't really happy about this arrangement but it's better than being trapped in the thermos again and he does have no intention of hurting his younger counterpart or his loved ones.
So Dan concedes. He stays out of Danny's way. He watches. He catches glimpses of his former friends and family from a distance. And it hurts. Dan feels out of place, disconnected. This isn't his time, isn't his place. He's stuck on the outside looking in... and this timeline already has a Danny, one who didn't make the aggresous mistakes he did. And those mistakes... the guilt's still there but like all other emotions, it's dim and distant. That's how it's been since his death, with every emotion but rage. But still, Dan does not like being on the outside looking in. He needs to do something else with himself, find some place he can belong.
Then Dan remembers Vlad. He had gone to the older half ghost after losing everything. And... Vlad had tried to help him. Separating the then halfa at his request had been a horrible idea but Vlad had been trying. Vlad did care about him. And.... the man must be so lonely now. Lonely like Dan himself is.
It's something of a wim but Dan goes to the older halfa. And at first, it's a surprise to Vlad and then seemingly a dream come true. Here in front of him is a version of Daniel who wants to stay by his side willingly. This Dan is more powerful and experienced than his younger counterpart, though not as experienced as Vlad. The young man is willing to be taught and all he seemingly wants is companionship. Yes, it would be a dream come true except...
Dan will not tolerate any of Vlad's shit. He will not be used to hurt anyone ever again. He will not take part in any of Vlad's schemes against the Fentons. It's a high price to pay but the older man backs off. Vlad is content to not be alone and have a chance to convince Dan to work with him.
So Dan stays with Vlad. With the older man busy with work, Dan has free reign of the mansion for most of the day. In some ways, it's nice. Away from Amity Park, there's no temptation to check on his former loved ones. His longing for a life he can no longer have is diminished. Vlad's mansion provides ample distraction, in the library, the game room, the gardens. But... the days are long and often lonely and the nights... they're even worse. The large building, empty and quiet, it's too much like a time Dan wishes he could forget. The memories are stronger now. After the fiery explosion...weeks of weeping in his room. Somber diners with Vlad where he couldn't force himself to eat. Waking up from another nightmare.
Without his humanity, the grief isn't as soul wrenching as it should be. But it's ever present, the memories on repeat. And there is little to break them up. As a ghost, Dan cannot sleep. He cannot eat. He can't truly feel the sun on his face or the comforting chill of the water on the pool. All physical sensations are dimmed.
And Dan starts to realize, it's excruciating. He feels incomplete, like there's a gapping whole in his chest. The memories of his own death, seen from the outside, return. His own icy blue eyes wide with fear and pain. Red blood spattered on his face. It's horrifying. Or it should be. If Dan could muster up more than the dimmest shadow of the emotion. But he can't, because the part of him that could died 10 years ago. And... this is wrong. He is wrong.
He should have died completely as himself, as Danny Fenton. He shouldn't have watched his death from the outside by his own hands. He shouldn't be this half being that couldn't even be bothered to die properly.
Dan stews, a forgotten anger growing as he longs for something he'd once wanted rid of. His human self, his Fenton, his humanity... he wants it. He wants to be truly, completely himself again. He wants to be whole enough to fade, to move on.
But that is the problem with ghosts, especially one like him. They do not change. They do not move on. As much as Dan acts like he is older, like he is different, he is not. He's the same angry, broken teen that he was ten years ago. And he will never be anything else.
Dan rages, trashing Vlad's training room. Soon enough, his anger is spent and the young man comes back to his senses. Dan huffs in frustration and annoyance at himself. He'd rather enjoyed Vlad's training room and now the man himself will likely be cross with him. Dan does his best to put the room back in order and find something else to do.
But the pain, regret, and longing linger. At some level, Dan thinks he's being ridiculous. All his former loved ones are alive. Dan isn't alone. He has Vlad and the ability to determine his own future. This world wasn't ravaged by his hand. His mistakes have been erased. He should be free. Except...
No, his mistakes are not all erased. His own death returns to his mind over and over. He shouldn't think about, he shouldn't dwell on it but...
One day, Dan goes down to Vlad's secret lab. He knows he shouldn't. This is such a breach of Vlad's trust but... this is were it happened. The young man stares at the metal table. If he was capable of feelings cold, he would shiver. There, where he was pulled out of his body. That wall, he cornered his human half there, the boy cowering in fear. There, that control panel was spattered with his own blood.
Dan wishes he could cry but he's not human enough for that. He's not human at all. But he wishes he was.
Startled by the thought, the full ghost turns away. He shouldn't wish for things he can't have but... no. Dan's eyes flicker around the room, looking for small differences from his memories. Some of the equipment is laid out differently. There are different samples on the shelf and... that door wasn't there before.
Dan walks through and finds... metal and glass chambers in different degrees of construction. A few are filled with ectoplasm and there in the back... if Dan had a heart, it would stop. There in a clear pod with a breathing mask over his face is...Danny Fenton. No, that's not right. This isn't... this isn't his timeline. And his younger counterpart is in Amity Park so....
Dan frantically searches Vlad's computer, his notes for answers. Clones. Vlad had been trying to clone his younger half ghost counterpart. In the tube... clone 3. Fully human. Suffered mental decline from 2 weeks gestation and eventually brain death a month later. Body kept alive by machines since... the week Dan arrived.
Dan wishes he could feel shock. He wishes he could feel relief. From the data, this was the first attempt that even resembled something human. The others were by all measures animals, in no way sentient. And it appears Vlad hasn't continued working since Dan came to live with him. But still...
Dan confronts Vlad, asking about the experiments, about the clone kept on life support.
"I could not bear to pull the plug." Vlad answers, surprisingly sober. "I'd hoped his condition would improve." There is a far away look in his eyes, a longing. "I tried everything I could think of to stop the degradation but..." The older half ghost shook his head. "I'm continuing to monitor 3's status." There was a pain in Vlad voice. "I fear he won't live to see the outside of his chamber."
Vlad was in denial, Dan thinkd. This clone is gone, like his own human half. The heart still beats, the lungs still breath but...
He shock his head. "Before you approach me, I consider...if I could create a viable, ghostly clone and coax the spirit to hybridize with the body..."
The idea was ridiculous and he should be disgusted, hearing all Vlad had done, what he had planned but...
"That is all in the past now." Vlad finished sadly.
All in the past like the loss of his own human half. He shouldn't wish for things that he couldn't have but...
"I'm a viable ghost..." Dan could barely believe the words coming out his mouth. "Not a clone but... I am without a human side."
Vlad is staring at him like he has another head, something which Dan was sure he did not currently have. "Daniel...are you suggesting... what I think you are suggesting?"
Was he? It was ridiculous, impossible. He could not replace his human side by... possessing an animated corpse.
"No. I am not." Dan denied. "Forget I said anything."
Vlad gave a nod, dropping the conversation. But Dan did not forget. This idea... it was wrong. It was impossible. He couldn't be made a half ghost again. But...
The temptation. If anyone could get it to work, it would be Vlad. And if it did...the ghost floats to what had been his bedroom and laid down. If it worked, he could sleep. He could eat. He could go out in public with human. It would necessarily be a replacement for what he'd lost but...
No... this was wrong. This was basically a clone of himself whose body he wanted to steal. But... was it really? This was an empty body, no mind, no soul. It was mad science but... Dan was already the product of mad science.
And if it worked, not as an overshadowing but a hybrization... he could truly age, he could grow passed what happened. And he could feel more than the pale shadows he could now.
The next day, Dan asks Vlad for what he wants.
"Are you sure?" The man asked. "This could have unknown consequences on your body or your mind. You could even destabilize."
That gave Dan pause. This might not work. He might end up in unknown pain or even fade but... "this is worth the risk."
The pair work together, planning and experimenting. They give the body transfusions of Dan's ectoplasm. The younger ghost practices envisioning himself as a halfa again. He prepares himself.
"I will need to reduce you down to your core." Vlafd says solemnly.
Dan places his existence in Vlad's hands. After blowing off seemingly endless amounts of energy in a desolate portion of the Ghost Zone, the older halfa repeatedly shocks him with the Plasmius Maximus. Dan's body pops out of existence, leaving his core exposed.
As just a core, there is no sensation. No input. No output. It's terrifyingly like being in the thermos again. Dan knows he is being moved. Vlad is doing something to him but... there is nothing and too much at the same time.
Dan can not process. He is cradled. There is something beside him, something around him reaching out. Something is changing. He is changing. It is too much. Dan loses consciousness for the first time in ten years. It is not sleep. There is no dream. He can think one moment, separated from the world. And the next...
He is under water. Something is beeping. He feels light but heavy. Cold but warm. His center is fluttering, something straining and pounding. An emotion. Something that might be panic or fear suddenly rises in him, crashing over him as a wave. An equally panicked voice comes from in front of him. Then there's a sting in his neck. Sting? Pain? Pain, it's been so long since he felt pain. And... his neck? He has a neck again. Dan blacks out again.
The young man comes to again. There is still something beeping near his head. He's not under water now but laying on something soft. Soft and warm. Warm....Dan can feel that. His breath hitches. Breath... he feels lungs move on his chest. And...he feel heavy and warm. Something... something happened. He can't remember what...
Dan's eyes flutter open, falling on... Vlad.
The man's eyes met his, relief flashing across them. "Daniel." He sighs. "How do you feel?"
"Feel?" Dan crocks. Is that... is that his voice? "What...what happened?" The ghost (?) thinks he might know. "Did it work?" He whispered.
Dan's voice... his voice is high, like when he was a younger teen. It should feel strange but...
"Take a look." Vlad says, offering him a mirror.
Dan reaches forward with a shaking hand. His hand... it's not gloved, neither is it blue. It's.... he stares. It's a pale peach color like... his hands are smaller and thinner....
"Daniel." Vlad interrupts. "It's alright." He holds the mirror up and...
Dan meets blue eyes. His own blue eyes. Eyes he never thought he'd see again except on someone else. His eyes water as he reaches towards the mirror. "It worked."
His new heart is aching, a thousand emotions hitting him. Joy, happiness, relief, grief, guilt, regret. All of them are bigger, nearer, more real and soul-aching than it's been in years. He should be upset. He looks and sounds like a kid again. But... "I'm alive."
He is alive. And it is a joy. A gift. A promise. He will not waste this second chance.
The newly remade halfa is crying and...it's never felt so good.

(The borderlands anon from however long ago)
So, I finished watching the show a couple days ago, because there were a couple things that showed up consistently in fics i that I didn’t understand (blood blossoms, some of the baddies, a handful of fenton inventions, etc)
First off, I still very much prefer pitch pearl to amethyst ocean or whatever the hell it’s called
And also, do you know where pitch pearl as a ship came from? I know there’s the episode with fun and super, but is that all there really was? Or were there more early fandom headcannons that supported them as separate beings?
Hello again! Sorry this took so long, I wasn’t sure how to answer 😅
Canon did a poor job with AO. I would even say it did it dirty, but it's popular enough it doesn't need that kind of support lol. If you really want to give it a fair shake I’d recommend reading fanfiction for it, but I understand everyone’s preferences are different. I personally don’t ship it because shipping best friends is something I have real issues with, but it’s not a bad ship if you want something that’s soft and makes you feel all warm inside.
Onto pitch pearl tho!
Tbh, I’m not entirely sure myself how pitch pearl as a ship started. I don’t believe it was because of the Fun and Super episode, largely because those two are rarely used in the ship.
I asked someone else, and they thought that moment in What You Want when Phantom was first torn from Fenton as this colorless ghost might have been what started the concept they weren’t one whole person. Because, honestly? This ship goes far, FAR back. A lot of the older fics made Phantom into a voice in Danny’s head or a spirit that could separate from him at will without the need of the Ghost Catcher in order to offer Danny comfort. They had no rules because there weren’t any set way yet. The fact that Phantom could move and think independently from Danny was enough to get people thinking. It wasn't all romantic, most of it was borderline at best. They mostly focused on hurt/comfort and self-love, finding a balance between human and ghost with the occasional kiss thrown in.
Then there’s TUE, where Danny meets his evil future self and learns that his ghost half killed his human half after merging with Plasmius. It definitely gave more credence to the idea there might be more to Danny’s ghost half than simply having ghost powers. It aired before Identity Crisis, so it set the stage with a BOOM and had a much bigger impact on the ship. Phantom being seen as his own person is a bit more credible when he’s willing to kill Danny. It helped that TUE was a VERY popular episode. It drew in a huge crowd, and everyone was curious about what made the ghost half snap like that if he’s supposed to be Danny.
Supporting that idea is that a lot of the older art and fics took a darker view of Phantom in general, seeing him as Danny’s darker half or a ghost out for revenge after being imprisoned for so long. Even the name “pitch pearl” was created with that in mind. I always thought of it as “white hair/black hair” in the same vein as AO taking inspiration from Sam’s purple eyes and Danny’s blue, but when I went searching for the origins for the name, the old explanation set Danny Fenton as white pearl and Phantom as pitch black. The reasoning for that was partly their jumpsuits pre- and post- accident, but also because Fenton is human and “pure” while Phantom is a ghost and dangerous--because without Fenton, Phantom became Dan and destroyed everything.
For obvious and somewhat personal reasons, I don’t subscribe to that. But it does make all the art where Phantom looks evil while holding Danny make sense. I don’t like dark romance, and I’m personally thrilled we moved away from such a dark beginning, but it likely had a hand in the early popularity of pitch pearl.
If I were to guess how else it started when the source has them as one person, I would say it was most likely the fanart? Putting Fenton and Phantom side-by-side has a yin-yang appeal, and when they interact in art, you get the sense that these are two characters, not one. This was really popular when the fandom was much bigger than it is now.
For instance
Tumblr media
Save Our Soul by nycken isn't a shipping piece by any means, but it could very easily give rise to the idea, especially if someone is new to the fandom.
They did not shy away from it being a self-cest ship back then, though. The idea that Phantom wasn't Danny was there, but I don't think anyone looked for evidence in the show to support it. That seems to be something the ship has evolved into rather than something it started from, and it is honestly my favorite way to see it.
I do have many headcanons about how they aren’t the same person in canon if you're interested! There’s the out of sync transformations, the title sequence and how Super and Fun are shown to separate in the Identity Crisis episode, Vlad’s inability to clone Danny, the way Danny talks to himself, just all kinds of things! If you want to hear more about those I'd be happy to answer 😁 (they'd probably be easier too lol)
But yeah, I think it was TUE and fanart. There may have been other factors (I think this was around the time Yu-Gi-Oh and puzzleshipping was popular too) because fandom doesn't exist in a vacuum, but I really couldn't say for sure. It's a ship that means different things for everyone who ships it. I like the psychological questions when they start off as "one" (the bonded peeps version) and enjoy the aus like soooo much, but others like it only for aus, and others like it as a crack ship, and then there are even others who like it as something dangerous. Some people love it for Fun and Super in Identity Crisis because they're just fun caricatures. It's hard to find the origin point when it has so many branches lol

Sam, Tucker, Ellie and Jazz all wind up in the dimension as well while looking for Danny, and wind up taking up the same hobby.
Cyborg has Tucker following him around and at first try’s to ignore it/make the random civilian stay somewhere safe, and then during a fight a piece of his tech gets blown off, and when he’s in a tuff spot Tucker pops up out of nowhere with the piece of tech jury rigged into a energy weapon. It was a piece of his coms systems??
Jazz follows around Black Canary, who decides to give this kiddo a chance after Jazz goes full therapist on 5 goons. By the time she got there to “save” Jazz 3 of the 5 were crying, the fourth was on the brink of tears while talking about how his fathers emotional neglect drove him down a life of crime so that he could finally be seen for the first time in his life. The fifth wanted all his life to be a therapist and help people, but his families medical bills and his lack of self confidence prevented him from going to college. Jazz already sent tons of resources for scholarships(and yes, the first thing Jazz did when she wound up in an alternate dimension was start investigating its academic environment)
Sam either A) goes for Raven because Hello Goth Boss lady or B) says screw the hero’s and starts hanging out with Ivy and Harley. Maybe a mix of both? Harley and Ivy accept her when she kicks the Joker on the ball with her steel toed boots. Raven is actually kinda happy to finally have a proper fan, but when she accidentally goes full Eldritch during a battle she’s certain that’s gone out the window. Sam’s all like “holy shit, that was awesome. I haven’t seen anyone else able to do that as well as Danny in ages.”
Ellie meets Wonder Woman, and instead of trying to drive off her little fan like everyone else had been trying to do Wonder Woman takes one look at Ellie and goes “Mine”. From then on Ellie is Her Little Warrior.
Vlad eventually follows them through, planning to do all his usual maniacal bullshit. But then he meets Lex Luthor. And is all like. “Oh no, he’s Hot”. Vlad and Lex become a power couple and apparently having a caring partner to come home to and Cuddles does wonders for the whole “heartless evil mastermind” thing, so they mostly just chill now. Vlad still considers himself Danny’s father/uncle, and as such cracks terrible dad jokes and teases him relentlessly. Luthor may be chill now, but he’s still a petty bastard, so when ever he and Vlad have a night to themselves he intentionally leaves the sound proofing turned off. Superman’s ears BLEED. He goes to the watch tower to escape the noise. When he heard them talking about putting on the Superman costume and discussing which one will be “Captured” he screamed like a madman while flying to the moon. Vlad and Lex watch him take off through a telescope/satellite and laughed their asses off. Lex has a close up shot of Superman’s horror framed and hung up on the wall of his office.
Superman has a stalker. He first noticed the kid a few weeks ago on a rooftop close to where he had just defeated some robbers. He hadn't thought much of it initially. Then the kid popped up a few days later once again close to one of his fights. This time, Superman took notice of a camera in the small child's hands. He had his suspicions about what was going on but held off until he saw the kid for a third time.
This time he couldn't help but go over to tell the kid off about how dangerous it was. He would be more than happy to take pictures with him later but being this close to fights was dangerous. When the boy managed a stunned nod, Superman thought he got the message. That is until he spotted this child a couple days later, tiny hands once again wrapped around a camera as he took pictures. It was at this moment that he recalled Bruce telling him about how Tim first got acquainted with the Bats. Oh no.
Surprisingly, Danny doesn't particularly mind his current situation. I mean sure, he's stuck in a ten year old body and stranded in another dimension but he was in a world full of superheroes. Better yet, the superhero of the city he was currently staying in was apparently an alien. How cool is that? Maybe the sneaking close to his fights to get pictures was a little much. But that had led to Superman talking to him. Ok well it was closer to scolding him but same difference.

tsk i’m DYING to hear your play-by-play on which worm characters have dumb fanon interpretations
UH OH YOU JUST OPENED THE FLOODGATES so the short answer is pretty much every major character but I am a high-effort bitch so let's do this: Taylor Hebert: jfc, I could probably hit a word count limit talking about Taylor alone. First you have the dumb as shit TINO (Taylor In Name Only) phenomenon where people just straight up SI as Taylor but pretend it's her and she's basically a different person wearing Taylor's skin like an ill-fitting suit. Then there's the Memetic Escalator Taylor interpretation where Taylor's Warlord era characterization is flanderized so hard that she turns into her world's version of Doomguy where her response to literally everything is ultra violence, mutilation and torture and she can totally beat up anyone you guys hahah coin sock goes brrrrr you go brutalize those totally deserving victims queen. And then there's shy, stuttering, soft spoken "useless lesbian" Taylor which is not as common but still, fuckin straight men and the way they infantize gay women. Taylor is perhaps the most consistently inconsistent characterization I've seen in fandom, it's fucking wild Lisa Wilbourn: Has two fanon settings. Taylor's best friend who exists solely to give exposition and get the "Stop Coil" subplot rolling (occasional gay subtext will be added in a way that feels fetishy) Or, the evil bitchy blonde who is first target of the SI. I constantly wonder if the people who write the frankly masturbatory SI's are aware that we can tell they're still bitter about girls not dating them in highschool. Brian: basically does not exist in fic aside from the occasional joke cause racism and also because of how popular wlw ships are in Worm fandom. you deserve better dude Alec: has a few token appearances in wormfic fandom that usually have him as the comic relief alongside Aisha, which might actually be for the best considering he's a rapist and the Worm fandom's uhhhh tendencies. Moving on- Aisha: prankster girl that alt!Taylor will adopt as a younger sibling. hopefully is not part of the totally-not-a-harem considering she's even younger then the rest of these teens Bitch: Another girl to fall into alt!Taylor's definitely-not-a-harem, but with more butch tendencies. Basically has no personality in fanon outside of her dogs Parian: SHE DOESN'T HAVE A SHOP FFS also another member of Taylor's totally-not-a-harem Flechette: yeah it's a harem Sophia: holy shit you think Brian's bad? The racism in pretty much every fanon depiction of Sophia is off the charts. Hyper-violent, super edgy, "predator/prey" speech inbound, will get humilated/killed in some new, supposedly satisfying but actually just deeply uncomfortable way, probably throw in some E88 shit too just because Emma: again, do the writers know we can tell they're still malding over the fact that the pretty girls in highschool didn't date them? fanon emma is pretty much a cardboard cut out of whoever was mean to the author. something something bitches three Madison: in fanon has a C53 fetish, occasionally is also Browbeat. don't ask why Victoria: gets hit with the blonde stereotypes even harder then Lisa, "Collateral Damage Barbie" is one of the phrases that activates my flight or fight responses. she basically is an entirely different character in fanon. bubbly dumb blonde girl with a massive temper and well other sexist bullshiit Amy: I hate even touching this character with a ten foot pole but basically is hit with the "soft useless lesbian" trope hard enough to make her into a completely separate person from her canon self. whether or not this is a good thing is still up for debate Carol: in fanon, an evil bitch who exists solely to bully Amy Mark: who? The rest of New Wave: cannon fodder for Leviathan Danny Hebert: literally stale milk instead of a personality, will probably die before the fic is over but we won't care because the author did not care either Armsmaster: hahaha robotman go brrrr or is an arrogant self-aggrandizing shit, can't interact with people without Dragon helping him 24/7 Miss Militia: fanon bat'd into team mom,
idk where this came from considering her first instinct upon seeing children is to pull out a gun holy shit wait is she actually Taylor's true mom- Velocity: canon fodder for levi Battery & Assault: sitcom wife, sitcom husband! please ignore how fucked up this relationship is if you look at it for more than two seconds Dauntless: haha armsy is JEALOUS also cannon fodder for levi Triumph: who? The BB wards in general tend to be incredibly bland, the only ones who have fanon personalities of note are Clockblocker and Vista. The former being such a huge prankster that every other line is a joke- or him complaining about how BULLSHIT Alt!Taylor's powers are. Vista is an angry kiddo who says that Shadow Stalker doesn't count as being a girl on the team The E88: no personality for any of them except that Kaiser is noble and really isn't that bad and also Purity did nothing wrong totally she's just a hot mom trying to do her best, please ignore how she exclusively targets characters of color and literally calls white criminals more civilized than miniorities- the worm fandom has something of a nazi problem i hate it here The ABB: racism and honorable samurai lung even though that has no canon basis so again, racist stereotypes The Slaughterhouse 9: This one makes me just as sad as the Lisa shit because dear god this is such a good cast of villains that fanon completely flattens to bowling pins for the Alt!Taylor of the week to mow down, why does this fandom suck so much. Anyway Jack is just the Joker, Crawler is masochistic, etc i'm moving on now The PRT/Protectorate as a whole: They are an evil paramilitary organization that pressgangs kids into signing up to become child soldiers, and somehow at the same time, they are a bunch of idiots who listen to the PR department and have stupid things like RULES that prevent capes from COMMITTING VIOLENCE. Being called "the biggest gang of all" is common and some shit like "at least the criminals are honest" is a likely statement. Cauldron: whoo boy this one really boils my blood but fanon Cauldron are just a bunch of evil idiots who can't even tie their shoelaces. basically a bunch of dudebros are upset that women run the world and that two of them essentially have "I win" powers so they have to make them lose to their SI- er, Taylor in fics so they can assuage their masculinity, which totally isn't pathetic Scion: Is at once the end all be all of worm you can't write a wormfic without scion or else it's TOTALLY MEANINGLESS because what is the point of a story if all the characters are going to DIE in a few years anyway, and at the same time is incredibly easy to defeat- this ties into how Cauldron is stupid. Scion Truthers pls shut up and go read something else okay I think that's everyone I would apologize but the only thing I'm sorry for is how messy this is

I want you to know I waited a literal 12 hrs to send this ask bc work. My theory on Dan is its ridiculous on purpose. Clockwork engineered the whole thing (right in front of us!) so that Danny could confront the possibility of becoming evil. The trauma of seeing a bad end, fighting his "future self" (one thats so contrived its barely even Danny anymore) will help keep this Danny on the straight and narrow as opposed to some other more, realistic evil Danny that may have happened. Clockwork not only gains Danny's trust by "saving the day" (from the problem HE purposefully created) but preserves what he sees is the better timeline. All at the expense of traumatizing some teens.
ksjfgndk you’re so valid
This is a pretty cool theory! Yeah idk what the hell Clockwork was doing. I need to rewatch the episode, i honestly forget a lot of his parts.
