ARE WE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE BEST FRIENDS DIOMEDES AND ODYSSEUS NOT HAVING ANY FORM OF CONTACT FOR 10 YEARS AFTER THE WAR?
LIKE I AM SURE THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT HOW THEY WOULD WRITE TO EACHOTHER WHEN THEY GOT HOME AND DIOMEDES GETS ABSOLUTE RADIO SILENCE FROM ODYSSEUS FOR 10 WHOLE YEARS
AND EVEN IF DIOMEDES SEES ODYSSEUS AGAIN IT ISN'T GONNA BE THE SAME ODYSSEUS THAT HE KNEW IN THE WAR, NOT THE SAME MAN FILLED WITH YOUTHFUL PRIDE, BUT INSTEAD FIND A MAN WHO DESPITE SEEMING TO HAVE A NOW GENTLE OPEN ARMS TO WORLD OUTLOOK AFTER THE WAR HE ALSO LOOKS SCARRED UP AND LOOKS LIKE HE HAS SEEN SOME MASSIVE SHIT. ALSO PROBABLY GETTING OVER A FEAR OF PHYSICAL AFFECTION THANKS TO CIRCE AND CALYPSO.
IMAGINING A REUNION BETWEEN THESE TWO SEEMS BOTH HAPPY YET VERY SAD AT THE SAME TIME AND MY BRAIN CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHICH TO PROPERLY FEEL- AAAHHH

Homer's Menelaus: Ah, I grieve for my best friend, the one who suffered more than any of us to the point I cannot sleep or eat! What accursed fate has befallen on that great man!
Eurypedes's Menelaus: Ah that blasted son of Sisiphus is a people pleaser addicted to the love of the crowd! He will do anything to give blood to please the mob! If he is onto us we're lost!
Like...Eurypedes my boy I love your writing on many aspects but...what the fuck? 😅😂

I currently have writer's block and fucked around and made Iliad and Odyssey memes :'D Some look like "repeats" but aren't. Just different scenarios/people. Enjoy!
There's... A LOT. I don't care if you pick out your favorites! I put this all in one post as I don't want to spam the tags! :D
#I hope people get the Proteus one😅It's simple but I really fucking love it.#I'm sorry if ugly but I literally made most of these in google presentation as all I have is a shitty chromebook.#I want to make more Penelope and Helen ones but those are mostly headcanons🥺 so probably something later on#I wanted to have more Agamemnon and Achilles ones too but I don't think I understand their characters enough to do them justice...#I know enough for basics but yea#the circe/calypso is a bit dark but...bleh.#I think “my wife has a migraine” one kind of fits Menelaus more (If he were in a band today? He'd probably be the drummer) but eh!#I'm not an artist and I don't want to use others art without giving credit. (the one art one that's from tumblr DOES have the creator on#the bottom! “c-rowlesdraws” on tumblr! also there's moomin) SO I MAKE DO WITH FUCKING JPEGS LIKE A PEASANT! :D#odysseus#odyssey#the odyssey#odypen#penelope#diomedes#menelaus#helen of sparta#achilles#thetis#agamemnon#circe#calypso#tagamemnon#greek mythology#iliad#the iliad

speaking as a fatherless son here i think both telemachus and diomedes got fatherless son behavior but its in different ways. like diomedes is old enough to remember his fathers death he probably wandered his household and fields looking for him because he knew something was missing but telemachus. telemachus always had that missing yknow? there was never a time from his childhood where he remembers his fathers voice or embrace and so its both less noticable and more isolating if that makes sense. diomedes could remember tydeus as a larger-than-life, blurry figure faded in his memory but telemachus had to rely on stories and himself to cobble an imagined man out of scraps. he literally does this in book one. do you think he tried to find odysseus in his face? in himself? and always coming up short?
#the imagining odysseus rocking up to kill all the suitors in book one is probably the biggest fatherless behavior moment in literature ever#like fuck yeah we do a little bit of escapism sometimes!! as a treat!!#and then his dad really shows up and does that. like shit telemachus live your best life!!!! ignore that near-civil war it aint about them#diomedes meanwhile is being crushed by the weight of his fathers legacy and trying to live up to this faint figure he remembers#that towered over him and then disappeared forever and left this gaping hole in his life yknow#i based the idea of him wandering the halls off a personal anecdote of my brother but feel free to take it and run with it if you so desire#actually all of this is based off personal experience who am i kidding. its projection hours babey!! and always on these two#diomedes#telemachus

Do we think odysseus's thoughts are almost stuck in quick thought from how often Athena popped up into his head? Because I absolutely do
#Athena#Odysseus#Quick thought#Epic the musical#It happened slowly#Odysseus didn't notice at first#Everything started happening quicker for odysseus. Now he's always been quick both on his feet and his mind in how he draws his arrows but#Lately things have felt a little different#Almost as if he was a second ahead of everybody else and then as the years went by he started to notice the drag more and more#How it felt like the quick thought was stretching out longer and longer after Athena left#During the war it seemed like years would past before he was back in sync with the world#And the thing is odysseus recognizes that being touched by a god has changed him made him...different but he didn't care#It was cool it was an advantage it bound him to Athena proof that they were friends that he could handle having a goddess of war in his lif#It won't be till much later that it'll burn because. /shes not here/ but the hint of quick thought remains and#It burns because so many gods have been playing with him not as a friend or a mentor but just. Because they could because they wanted to#It burns because he can see calypso reach for him second before she does and if he flinches....#It burns because it's just another reminder of things he's lost and he misses his friend and he wants to go home but#It's been years and still his mind is a a few seconds ahead of the world and it. Hurts. So much it hurts#The only time it ever stopped was with penelope and diomedes telemachus. Athenas other chosen. Being around them#It was the only time odysseus felt normal#Not me using the tags to write out a whole ass story#Might actually turn this into a fic

OC Questionnaire Tag
I'm hoping on to this open tag left by the wonderful @noblebs and their murderous scamp Orion! The game is to answer three questions in the voice of an oc, and then give three questions for the next group. I'm answering these for Diomede, who I have been rotating in my head a lot recently.
1.) Do you have a dream/goal that is impossible?
"... Yeah."
(long pause)
"I guess I dream of meeting with my family again. I wouldn't have to be accepted by them, or regain my position, or anything–just to meet would be enough."
2.) Is there anything you would not do to get your way?
"I used to think there was. That I had limits. That there were things I wouldn't do, no matter how extreme–how desperate things were. I suppose I know better now."
3.) What is a good gift to get for you?
"Oh, hell, I'm not picky. New hat, maybe. Or a poncho. A biiiiig bottle of liquor. Can never get enough shoe polish, either. Practical stuff, like. Anything nice is going to get dirty or sold, or broken–that's just life off the beaten track."
I'm tagging @ink-flavored, @bebewrites, @transthadymacdermot, @words-after-midnight and @kathaliabloodyrose and of course, you too! Don't hesitate to jump on board!
Your questions are;
1.) When was the last time you hugged someone, and what was the reason?
2.) Do you speak multiple languages? If so, what are they?
3.) What is your dental hygiene like?
#tag games#diomede#thank you for tagging!#tbh his voice could use a bit more work but he does have a fairly clear and neutral cadence#so I have to find other ways to embellish a bit

Re reading " Heroes " by Valerio Manfredi and I'm like, this book has everything.
It's a Diomedes centered post fall of troy sequel that tells you how he is doing in Italy while developing on the side a plot about some girlboss conspiracy of all the greek queens.
#plus: it does a great use of the panthom helen version#one of my favorite retellings so far#diomedes#iliad#valerio manfredi

my favorite thing about odypendio is that there are no lines between platonic and romantic love. diomedes and odysseus pick each other over and over again over the course of the war. they eat together, they bathe in the sea together, they kill people together. odysseus spends over a decade of his life trying to return to penelope. penelope fends off a hundred men trying to take his place because she KNOWS he’s not dead. diomedes does his best to help her but refuses to marry her because odysseus CANT be dead. penelope and diomedes raise telemachus together and fill his life with stories about his father so that when he returns telemachus will already love him. diomedes drops his sword when odysseus tries to fight him after assuming he’s here to try for penelope’s hand. odysseus can’t bring himself to actually do it. they slaughter the suitors together. and penelope hugs them both afterwards despite how they’re covered in blood. because they love each other in ALL the ways. because they’re three parts (a silver tongue and wit, discipline and strength, cleverness and talent at the loom) of a greater whole (athena)

The fact that Diomedes gets kicked out after getting home in four days only to basically meet up with Aeneas and fuck around in Italy is so much fun. He gets CULTS :D
#The Odyssey is the Ithacan Royal Family's story. The Iliad is honestly Diomedes' story as much as it is Achilles honestly#look. have Diomedes in your Odyssey stuff if you want but it IS an AU. :D#it's just like the “Astyanax lives AU” and/or the “Penelope is kidnapped instead of Helen AU” :D#Diomedes deserves his story :) He does so many cool things in Rome!#the odyssey#diomedes#odyssey#tagamemnon#greek mythology#Mad rambles#shot by odysseus#Mad memes#odysseus

These three because I love this ship so much
*Penelope and Diomedes flirting with each other yet again* Odysseus: And you two are sure you're not dating? Penelope: 100%. Diomedes: Of course not! Why would you think that? Odysseus: I wonder why that possibility would even cross my mind, Diomedes. I fucking wonder.
-
Diomedes: Two years ago, I married my best friend. Diomedes: Penelope is still mad about it, but me and Odysseus were drunk and thought it was funny. -
Odysseus: Hey, babe, remember how I had to go to the pharmacy to pick up my ADHD meds? Penelope: Yes? Odysseus: Well, it turns out they're all out for the next five days. Penelope: Fuck. Odysseus: It's gonna be a fun week! Penelope: I'm going to Diomedes's house. Odysseus: Nuh-uh. Through sickness and health, motherfucker. -
Penelope: Having two partners is both amazing and complicated. But all our problems are solved with communication. Diomedes: It’s my turn to cuddle Odysseus. Penelope: FIVE MORE MINUTES DAMMIT! -
Diomedes: H-how do you ask someone out? Odysseus: Well, first- Penelope: Don't ask him, he asked me out in a McDonalds parking lot. Diomedes: ...And you said yes? -
*Odysseus is telling a story* Penelope: Wow, Odysseus, this story has everything! Action! Adventure! Romance! Diomedes: Romance? Penelope: I'm in love with him. -
Penelope, holding a rock: Diomedes just gave this to me and said "I feel like you deserve the moon but all I can give you is a rock". Odysseus: If you don't marry him, I will. -
Diomedes: It's pretty cold outside... wanna hold hands? We should stay close. Odysseus, blushing: Okay. Penelope: It's fucking summer. -
Odysseus: If I say I love you, will you say it back? Diomedes: Yes. Odysseus: I love you. Diomedes: It back. *Later* Penelope: Why is Odysseus crying face-down on the floor? -
Penelope: Ooh, somebody has a crush Odysseus: Pfft, I don’t have a crush on Diomedes. I just think he's cool, it’s not like I stay up at night thinking about him. *Later that night* Odysseus, very much awake: Uh oh. -
Penelope: Did Diomedes just tell me he loved me for the first time? Odysseus: Yeah, he did. Penelope: And did I just do finger guns back? Odysseus: Yeah, you did. -
Penelope: You don't need my blessing to go kiss Diomedes. In fact, I was pretty sure you were already kissing Diomedes! Odysseus: Nope. Penelope: In that case, as the archbishop of Odysseus's fully awakened gaydom, I give you my blessing to immediately leave and rectify that as soon as possible! Go now, my child, and kiss Diomedes right on the lips!!! -
Odysseus: Thank you all for coming. Penelope, wearing a hospital gown: When I heard you couldn't get laid, I dropped everything and came straight here. Odysseus: Well, I couldn't imagine anyone else being part of the "Fuck Odysseus Task Force". Diomedes: Yeah, I interpreted that in a different way. -
Odysseus: *looking through his closet* Has anyone seen my top? Diomedes: Penelope’s in the kitchen. -
Diomedes: *sucking on a popsicle* Penelope: Pfft, you practicing for when Odysseus gets here? Diomedes: *takes a huge ass bite out of the popsicle* Penelope: *Concern* -
Diomedes: *is wearing silk pants* How does this look? Odysseus: Like its slips on and off really easily. Diomedes: Odysseus: No, I didn't mean it like that- Penelope: We know what you meant. -
Penelope: Can you please just apologize to Diomedes? Odysseus: Fine, but I have to warn you that this may make me a nicer, better person and that is not who you feel in love with. -
Diomedes: Hi, sorry I’m late. I was doing a couple of things and got distracted. Odysseus: I’m “a couple of things”. Penelope: I’m “got distracted”. *Penelope and Odysseus high five* -
Penelope: That shirt looks great, Odysseus. Odysseus: Thanks. Penelope: But I bet it would look even better on Diomedes's floor. Diomedes: Are you hitting on Odysseus... for me? -
Diomedes: Hey, Odysseus? Can I get some dating advice? Odysseus: Just because I'm with Penelope doesn't mean I know how I did it.

Yes!!! THIS!!!
Also, see, now you made me want to draw out an essay relating aftg characters to Illiad heroes.
Jerejean this, Neil ordering a hit that.
There's one thing I need to know. Was if Nora's intention to reference the ancient Greek myth Paris with Jean being given that as a nickname from Thea? Or is it just about the city? I need to know I need to know.
Paris being thrown out as a little child by his parents due the prophecy that he is going to be the reason for a kingdom's collapse. Paris becoming a Prince of Troy.
Jean being sold off by his parents due to their debt to the Moriayamas. Jean being blamed for the fall Edgar Allan Ravens took. Becoming a Trojan.
Paris being tempted by three goddesses promising him great things.
Jean being fucked over by a pretty face mentioned three times.
Paris and Jean being the scape goats of their stories when acting from love and due to powers stronger than them.
#this is what reading too much illiad does to a person#also Odysseus as Neil? Trojan horse stuff? Your brain is so big#let me raise you if Neil is Odysseus then Andrew is Diomedes

diomedes' existence in the iliad/trojan war is so funny. He's this killing machine who is second only to Achilles in the whole war, who is on his side. He basically carries the Greeks so hard in the beginning of the Iliad that the Trojans are more afraid of him than Achilles who has been sitting things out.
and everyone treats him like shit in almost every book he appears in. His first real appearance in the Iliad is Agamemnon basically walking up to him and calling him a bitch because he isn't as good of a warrior as his father.
The next book, after, thanks to Athena's help, he kills Pandarus who wounded him, beat Aeneas (the hero of the Aeneid and one of the strongest Trojans), stabbed Aphrodite the goddess, charged Apollo and then leaves the battle field as per her instructions when Ares arrives on the field. After all that, Athena goes to him and calls him a little bitch and coward who isn't as good as his father. which he reminds her that she told him not to challenge any more gods. Then with Athena's help he stabs Ares forcing the god of war to retreat.
Then after a day, during the night, Nestor just kicks him awake in the middle of the night because the leaders of the greeks want to send someone on a night raid and Nestor calls him lazy. Note that Nestor gently woke up Odysseus moments later, but he freaking kicked Diomedes awake and calls him lazy. Then he sends him on an errand to wake up and fetch the other leaders because he's younger. Also should be stated, earlier that day Diomedes ran back when the Trojans were pushing their army back to their camps to save Nestor risking his life when the other Greek leaders fled. And Nestor just kicks him away that night.
Diomedes is a scary man but he is treated as the annoying little kid instead of one of the two greeks who are carrying their army. even worse, he's the new employee that keeps the store going. The managers won't promote him or treat him with respect because then they'd lose their golden egg. after 10 years they're still treating him like shit. It's like someone slapping the terminator in the face and telling him to mop the floor, and he does it. Other than Athena, he could easily kill these fuckers and they yell at him and call him a little bitch. It's just really funny when you think about it

What eye color does your Cassandra of troy have? It looks hazel but I could be wrong.
Also how did you decide what eye color to give your Odyssey!odysseus and does it have anything to do with your eye color choice for Athena?
I thiiink it was either hazel or gold?
And for Odysseus, I like giving heroes favored by Athena grey eyes haha. For her epithet, which some translate to grey (or blue) (could also translate to clear/shining/gleaming eyes, like an owl's. I guess maybe it was an offshoot of silvery? Who knows). So He and Diomedes got them light grey eyes
#wolfy tedtalks#it has an effect of making them look blind if you dont pay attention#which i think is neat#and also makes everything Much shinier in the dark#note to self. draw odydio with the dolon scene
