Crazy to me that the indie one-man-made game Kenshi took the American prison industrial complex to its logical conclusion in that the 2nd Empire has slavery as the punishment for any and all crimes to "give back to the community" for their crimes. The slaves keep the wheels of trade and profit turning with their blood, meanwhile the Unified Cities and their leaders can wash their hands of any immorality because "well they're all criminals". Meanwhile, the ruling merchants and oligarchs demand for profit has become so large that something as innocent as being too poor to afford food has become a crime punishable by enslavement.

Anyways, interesting commentary from a game with literal bugmen, scrap armor samurai, robot skin-bandits, and takes place in post-apocalyptic lunar colony.

Hello! Could I ask how many chapters does the jp server currently have? I believe you're at the 12th part but I'm not sure. Part 7 came out in the eng server and the measly 16 chapters with no chapters within chapters destroyed me, so I'm trying to estimate how many we'll get when parts come out

yep, we're in the middle of 7-12 right now! they started splitting them up further starting with 11, so we got chapter 11 part 1, then chapter 11 part 2, and we're due chapter 12 part 2 (and maybe 3?) later this month. we've been getting them more regularly though, so it seems like they're switching to smaller but more frequent story drops!

I think Eng is following the same chapter breakdown as JP for these ones, and they've mostly been a decent length each IMO -- 9 was on the short side (two-person dorms go by so fast...) but we're getting nice little wrap-ups to the characters' arcs so I personally haven't felt, like, shortchanged or anything so far! it is SUPER hard being patient though (I'm lucky enough to be able to play it immediately and I'm still dying over here), so. ...I'm hoping the smaller drops help with that. :')

Undertale has always been a Dog Game to me because there are many dogs but very few cats, which is fine, but im more of a cat person, so I think it's interesting that cats seem like a very clear theme in Deltarune. there are So Many cats. Catty's entire family (iirc none of her family members were in Undertale), Seam, Clover, the Tasques and Tasque Manager, Shadowguys, the FRIEND enemies in the Shadow Mantle fight, Cat Petterz... which makes it pretty interesting that none of the Dark Sanctuaries had any cats at all

This is a quote said by a character called Surtalogi from the game, Genshin Impact, but we aren’t talking about him or that game. We’re talking about Sonic the Hedgehog because that’s who this quote reminded me of

It doesn’t just remind me of him. No, no, no. When I saw this quote for the first time, I had this huge epiphany. This quote is basically the distilled version of why I love Sonic so much, why he’s my favorite character in his own franchise and one of my favorites in general

Sonic believes in freedom. He ‘preaches’ and practices it in everything he does. He’s a huge proponent of self-determination. He believes in people and choices

Which means that he does not work on the same moral system as everyone else in his world. He’s not a hero in the typical means because he does, technically, allow evil. We saw this in the Metal Virus arc, but it’s so much more than that

Sonic stops his antagonists from restricting the freedom of others, but he doesn’t punish them, not really. And he definitely doesn’t take preventive action against them. He waits until they’ve committed to their choice to start fighting back because true freedom means giving everyone a chance to change their mind. He doesn’t force them to be a “good” person, just someone who stops hurting others for their goals

And that’s why I love him. I can’t say I necessarily agree with him—not in every situation—but I find his morality so fascinating in a sea of perfect paragons and gritty antiheroes. He helps and believes in everyone, even those who have wronged him/the world in the past (ex. a solid chunk of his friends are people who tried killing him), as long as you aren’t encroaching on another’s freedom

There’s something so beautiful about that. This dedication to such an unique viewpoint. Sonic is not some saviour who wants to prevent all suffering. Arguably, he lets it happen in more than a few cases because freedom is about letting people experience everything the world has to offer—good and bad. It’s about letting people decide every single moment who they want to be, letting them change from one extreme to the next within seconds. It’s not about inspiring others to be better but rather, to be themselves—whoever that may be

i ghosted and then sb’ed the lawyer guy on ig bc turns out he’s friends with that one psycho man i met a few months ago. i think the latter i only mentioned meeting but never gave tea on the fallout here. it was all fun and games until it wasn’t. he basically tried to be alpha with me and i was not having it LOL but each time i blocked him in one place he found another means to reach me but his options were limited to begin with so eventually he gave up and stopped bothering me. but like, man. digging up all of my socials just to tell me things like “you’re so cold to me whenever we’re not together physically. far from the eye, far from the heart — is this your game?” was the last straw. NO SIR I AM A HORRID TEXTER i don’t play mind games 😭 i just kept blocking him without even bothering to give a reply, it probably pissed him off sm LOL which wasn’t my intention, i just thought there was no point in wasting my time and energy on a man like that, i didn’t even want to clear out the misunderstanding like hello i have a life and ur not my priority 😭 his petty male ego was def hurt, what a dick

so when i found out they were friends my brain went ultra dramatic, i thought maybe the lawyer guy was a setup from the very start and that it was a carefully crafted method by the psycho guy to approach me again. naturally i got paranoid and that story is now over, nothing weird’s happened after that, thankfully

interesting to think about how constantine isn't commonly read as being the most morally upright of characters, and that's generally a fair assessment. but at the same time he can still be a surprisingly ethical character, particularly in terms of the values he holds synonymous with being a good community member.

a couple examples of (what i think are) his most consistently held values throughout the hellblazer series:

constantine feels very strongly about things like defending people's bodily autonomy and showing kindness & compassion towards society's more vulnerable demographics, especially kids & unhoused people.

he frequently & sincerely upholds the basic principles of xenia (showing hospitality towards foreigners, guests, and anyone whose fate is in your hands), and possesses a deep, innate sense of justice that he is unafraid to uphold when he feels it necessary to do so.

he personally values survival above honor but still has a healthy appreciation for people that are committed to a code,

he respects integrity more than he'd respect a good liar (even if he fucking hates you, at least you're being true to yourself; can't help it if yourself is just a prick),

and he is CONSTANTLY PLAGUED by a deeply personal sense of social responsibility to try and nip potential threats to the world, to his city, or to his friends in the bud if he thinks it might be within his capabilities to do so.

of course, it's key to note that constantine's code of ethics was also founded primarily in accordance with the principles of '70s-'80s counterculture + still largely abides by the social beliefs of the same-era punk community, and thus also includes more subjectively-judged tenets such as challenging the establishment, defying the government, protecting individual liberties, taking direct action in support of your community, putting people above possessions at every turn, and actively addressing social issues wherever / whenever you encounter them. so he's not always viewed by other characters (particularly upper-class bootlicking ones) as being particularly ethical. doesn't change the fact that constantine still adamantly maintains certain major ethical principles in accordance with the social systems he inhabits and was raised in.

I have a question about the jp server pickups, since I really want knight Sebek, but I’m trying to save gems for bloom malleus + the 3rd tsum event that’s gonna show up sooner or later. Iirc, after knight Sebek, the next story update’s pickup had all of the previous story cards (ie cerberus Ortho, general Lilia, and knight Sebek). Is this true, and if it is, did it include a token system like the dorm pickups where you can just do 100 pulls and then buy the specific card you want directly? Because if that is how it works, then I can wait until then and be sure I won’t have to go to 200 for him.

we did indeed get a second chance at those three when 7-7 came out! I'm pretty sure there was not a token system -- though admittedly I don't 100% remember, sorry! 🙇 I took a quick search through some past posts/videos from people who tend to include the gacha and news stuff, but I didn't see any mention of it, so I'm inclined to think there really wasn't one. :( they were all separate pickups with their own pull counts rather than a combined one, if that info helps at all.

speaking as a strict f2p who hoards keys/gems like the lovechild of a dragon and a magpie, given the choice between saving for a story card and a birthday card, I'd go for story -- it does require a lot of patience, but there are way more opportunities to get past birthday cards, both from the anniversary events and the rerun pickups! tsums is a bit harder to say anything on because Eng doesn't follow the same event schedule, but it's a longish event and those pickups let you have a free 10-roll, so I think they're also a bit easier to save up for.

(ALSO speaking of free rolls, starting with the fifth round of birthdays -- the kutsurogi my room ones -- the birthday boy/union jacket/bloom cards have had a separate pickup that you can get two free 10-pulls at by doing missions! I got a bloom Jade from it a couple weeks ago. :D meanwhile general Lilia is the only story card I've ever managed to pull, so...I'm probably kinda biased. whoops.)

i started watching white collar a couple of weeks ago to distract myself bc i couldn't stop thinking about aftg while waiting for tgr

if you know the show you already know it was a terrible idea, i you don't well : one of the main character is named neal, has commited multiple crimes, has several aliases/identities, lies a lot and now works with the fbi to stop other criminals

(yeah neil doesn't like work /work/ with the fbi but you get my point, neal has also been a little tease to the fbi while he was on the run and we all now how neil talks to browning and co)

so yeah the characters and stories aren't the same at all but that's a lot of little thing that just don't help to not think about aftg

but it doesn't stop there, the character who kinda started the whole plot of the show is named kate MOREAU

it's so funny how many things i can link to aftg this bad boy can fit (granted i'm crazy and can link basically anything to aftg if i try hard enough)

for example neal bestie is a history nerd. at some point a character talks about the côte d'azur, you know what town is there? marseille, which character mentions that? yeah you guessed it, moreau. neal doesn't like guns and there's different reasons but one of them is his dad (neil with knife etc). there's so many more that i simply forgot, it's little things but every time i'm like another one thank you!

the latest one who made me write this you may ask? well, there's a car with a parking ticket, one agent picks it up and then we see the other side of the car : there's a fire hydrant. of all reason for illegal parking it just had to be this one

Y'know this little throwaway gag is so bizarre to me and I know this game is a bit very different to 2 and 3 but look at Matt's reaction when Jack raids the place in 3:

You'd argue he's simply stopping Jack bc he hates this guy and he also hates this job which Could Be True but i highly doubt bc overall despite his virginity and overall cursed vibe, Matt seems to be a good employee, by all means (I mean, Peter literally gave him a vacation instead of firing him in 2, so that says a lot).

Plus, Dave hates this guy as much as he hates him! He literally always calls him creepy and, AND!

This is the only footage you get of the prize corner in 2. Which is also the first game to show Matt and Dave's disdain for one another, Dave being likely more scared of Matt than Matt will ever be of him.

Which is all very curious. 2 does set a drastic change for Matt too with him going from being just strange to outright creepy, so was the old pizza place closing something that actually affected him or was he consistently that creepy all along? And if the later, did he just start hating Dave after that or did they always have beef and they simply had some sort of arrangement (or even higher word from Steven who tended to let Dave do whatever he wanted in general) that let him do so?
