Are there any JTTW adaptations that expand on SWK’s old brotherhood in a significant way?
Sadly I can't say that there is a lot of media with Wukong's brotherhood in general beyong Demon Bull King. There are so many movies and shows with Demon Bull King...
But I can say that there is just a small amount with the entire brotherhood being present!
Tumblr media
Bull Demon King (2017) 西游之牛魔王
Under the seat of Patriarch Bodhi, the seven holy sages of the demon world, Bull Demon King, Sun Wukong, Peng Demon King, Dragon Jiao King, and others are bound together with Jinlan, vowing to live and die together. At this time, the Taishang Laojun brought Princess Iron Fan to entrust to Bodhi Patriarch, and the Bull Demon King and Princess Iron Fan fell in love for a long time in private. But the Taishang Laojun still had an unruly heart for Princess Iron Fan, so he brought her back, and the Bull Demon King rose up to unify the demon world and wanted to save Iron Fan. However, the Bull Demon King was still captured by the Taishang Laojun. In the end, they finally married because Iron Fan was pregnant and he became a back-up man. Emotionally, Bull Demon King gradually fell in love with the Jade-Faced Fox, and then the brothers fought against each other, and the husband and wife turned against each other. In the end, the Bull Demon King was beaten back to his original shape, and Iron Fan, Red Boy, mother and son depended on each other for life.

The Legends of Changing Destiny (2023)凌云志
The way of heaven is fissioned, Stone (Lin Feng) turns into a demon by chance, and becomes close friends with Canary (Jiang Yiyi). As monsters, they encounter a lot of cold eyes and prejudice since their formation. He has a dream of being a hero but has nothing to do. After going through untold hardships, he finally worships the ancestor of Jiekong in Yaoguang Cave as his teacher. Fortunately, his innocent fellow student Fengling (played by Cheng Yanqiu) takes care of him. Stone practiced hard day and night. During this period, he became a confidant with the lonely and cold Yang Lan (played by Jiang Mengjie), and built Qilai Mountain together. In the heavens, the heavenly soldiers headed by Marshal Beichen (played by Wu Kequn) drove out all the demons, and the demon world rose up to resist, but all this was actually secretly manipulated by the Wuji Holy Venerable (played by Yue Yueli) after the invasion of the Hongmeng Heart Demon. Stone led the bloody battle between the demon world and the heavenly world, and became a hero to protect the weak monsters. At this time, the Holy Lord Wuji's goal of disrupting the Three Realms is about to be achieved. In order to revive the way of heaven and protect the common people, Stone rushes to the Dao Stone of Heaven without hesitation, trying to smash the Holy Lord of Wuji's conspiracy... The movie is adapted from the novel Turtle Is Not a Turtle.

Seven Sages (2030) 七圣
The first press conference of the mythical film "Seven Sages" was held. The film was directed by Ma Chucheng and starred by Huang Minghao, Andy Lau, and Zhong Chuxi and others. It is reported that Andy Lau will play Sun WUkong in the film, and Huang Minghao will play Nezha in the film. At the same time, Andy Lau will also serve as the producer of the film. "Seven Sages" are the seven sworn brothers in Chinese mythology. This mythological group is also mentioned in "Journey to the West" It is also mentioned in the "Seven Saints" that they are: Bull Demon King (Heaven Parrell Sage), Flood Demon King (Grand Sage Covering the Sea), Peng Demon King (Sky Soaring Great Sage), Lion Camel King (Mountain Removing Great Sage), Macaque King (Sage of Ventilation), Snub Nose Monkey King (the great sage who exorcised the gods), Monkey King (Great Sage Equal to Heaven). In "Journey to the West", only the Bull Demon King and Monkey King Sun Wukong appeared. This time it may focus on the story of their seven sworn brothers, The film tells that the filming started in May this year, This is also the first time Andy Lau played the role of Monkey King
Now these are not all the media that has ALL of the brotherhood as some series like Journey to the West 1999, 2010, and 1987 does have all the brothers together but I didn't include them as they are not explored.
Also there are movies with some of the brothers INDIVUDALLY are in it but not all of them. Like The Real vs. Fake Monkey King (2020) 真假美猴王之大圣无双 has the Lion Camel King as the main villain but they don't have any other brother so I don't think that would count as exploring the brotherhood so to speak.
Here are some pics of the 1999 Brotherhood! Love their designs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bull Demon King, Flood Dragon King, Peng Demon King, Macaque King, Lion Camel King, and for some reason, they chanced the Snub-nosed Demon King into some king of armadillo-looking thing. This was interesting to me that rather than showing how loyal his brothers are in this version is how unreliable instead they are. They were partying with 99 Wukong up until the point that heaven was attacking and in that moment, abandoned Wukong to save themselves.
Tumblr media
But I think that having the entire brotherhood is only a recent idea that more filmmakers are starting to want to explore with Wukong's character and honestly I hope that we see more of that in the future!! I love the idea of seeing Wukong's warlord years and whether his brotherhood was made from a hard-earned trust or rather flimsy alliances that only stay together when Wukong is guaranteed as the winner.
I think in either case can show the lengths that Wukong went to get these men and whether they followed Wukong out of fear, being the strongest warlord in the area and it only made sense to follow him and that Wukong overestimated their loyalty to him in times of trouble. And that perhaps reflects his current brotherhood with the pilgrims and how instead they all suffered together through tribulation rather than Wukong being left to heaven's punishment. Highlighting how Bull Demon refused to see Wukong as a brother after he lost to heaven the next they meet.
Or if they got the route that the brotherhood did follow Wukong out of a strong bond and how that fell apart from the battle of Flower Fruit Mountain, perhaps Wukong taking advantage to only keep his own monkeys safe in the battle while his brotherhood's armies were captured instead like in the books. And it’s only when he lost what he had, lost his brothers and lost his title as warlord and now turns into a pilgrim he sees the errors of his way in how he took advantage of those that followed him blindly. He might not be able to change the past but he tries to do right with his new brothers in the life ahead of him.
So much can be done!

Tumblr media
“You used to be my brother who I loved.”
I am once again thinking about the potentially amazing tragic (and perhaps eventually cathartic) elements that could be introduced into Monkie Kid if the five other yaoguai of the monkey king’s sworn brotherhood from his warlord days made an appearance. Like these are all very strong individuals who knew and loved Sun Wukong when he was a hyper-competent, uber-poweruful, and very successful yaoguai ruler, a far cry from the depressed mess that he is in the lego show’s timeline. Seeing Sun Wukong in his current state would probably be a very unpleasant shock to all of them, especially since this is supposed to be the “improved” post-journey version of the monkey king who also spent years thrashing tons of yaoguai for the sake of some weepy monk. And the grand result of all of that seems to be him going from a yaoguai who everyone loved and who loved life to becoming a living billboard for why you should Never Ever Ever Trust Humans Or Gods, not unless you want to become a self-isolating sadsack that everyone hates and who ruins everything because I guess he’s just that stupid now.
Oh no.

hehehe this jin wants to hear about jin
OMG somebody who wants to hear about my lmk oc!!!
So Jin is a lmk oc of mine that I made about.. Last march! Here is his ref (he's 23 in this ref because it takes place s4-5)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His name basically means "shadow snub-nosed monkey" kinda like how macaques name is simply "the six-eared macaque"
So ya he's based off of this monkey
Tumblr media
Backstory/basic lore
I headcannoned that macaque got revived year's ago before lmk pilot (mainly because he knows things like how to fly a jet and Code games?? HE WOULDN'T KNOW HOW TO DO THAT IF HE RECENTLY GOT REVIVED/silly)
so one of the things LBD ordered him to do was to create a soldier for her if he didn't want to comply with freeing her using the skeleton key, so he tried using his magic to create a shadow clone that would withstand a struggle, basically one that was stronger and wouldn't easily poof away, but putting too much magic into something was costly because instead of making a clone he accidentally made Jin. Since Jin was a baby monkey at the time macaque then had to raise him and take care of him. (bro said he wouldn't get attached and then got attached)
Time skip and it's lmk s1-2 Jin is 21 now and is training under macaque, and then when we get to s3 Jin actually has to serve LBD! (There's more lore for s4 and upcoming s5 but it's stuff to do with his friend group called wintertide)
Powers
Because he was made with macaques magic he gained some traits from the older monkey, he can use shadow magic but he cannot do
・transformations
・make clones
He also has a large range of hearing like macaque but it has a smaller range than macaque since
1. He's younger than him (I HC macaques hearing gets better with age)
2. He only has 1 set of ears
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
He also has some of lbds powers from when he was her soldier, it's nothing really prominent except the ability to create ice/bone(?) structures while portaling and giving people headaches
(just imagine macaques abilities in s3 in the prince the king and the shadow)
Ok that's about it I hope you enjoyed this because I love talking about my oc!!

I Have Theories - Potential LMK Season 5 Spoilers
I have had this theory since Season 3 but Season 4 fueled it and now from the little I have seen of Season 5 it is *twice* as strong. Keep in mind I have not seen Season 5 yet but I will mention spoilers that I have seen so if you don't want to know, don't continue!
Also potential MAA Spoilers because part of MAA is built off of these theories!!!
Alright, for those of you who are on my MAA Discord you guys might have seen me mention my theory before (because I have plenty of them). I have one theory that has to do with the snake character from Season 5 - Xiang Liu I think is his name? But this has to do with MK specifically. Now, unfortunately finding proper sources for Ancient Mythologies is hard especially with AI and shit now popping up a million half-assed things based off of previous searches. So, some of my research is patchy at best, so if I get some things wrong don't be afraid to gently point me in the right direction but also keep in mind Google only gets me so far and LMK has frequently changed things to help better fit the narrative.
Note from here on out everything in quotations is directly from a source! Be it Wiki, the Journey to the West Books, or otherwise!
Now according to the Journey to the West there are Four Celestial Primates.
"The Intelligent Stone Monkey; who knows transformations, recognizes the seasons, discerns the advantages of earth, and is able to alter the course of planets and stars." - This is Wukong for those of you who don't know! :D
"The Red-Buttocked Baboon; who has knowledge of yin and yang, understands human affairs, is adept in its daily life and able to avoid death and lengthen its life."
"The Bare-Armed Gibbon; who can seize the sun and the moon, shorten a thousand mountains, distinguish the auspicious from the inauspicious, and manipulate planets and stars."
then finally, "The Sixth-Eared Macaque; who has a sensitive ear, discernment of fundamental principles, knowledge of past and future, and comprehension of all things." - this is Macaque!
(^ previous quotes all directly from the Journey to the West)
But they are not the only 'monkey's in mythology, in fact there are quite a few! Including the Orangutan King (who online I find referenced as a Snub-Nose instead so again, different sources lead to different results) who is a member of the seven sages and the Macaque King who may or may not be the Six-Eared Macaque but was definitely made that way in LMK!
Another monkey is Pangu (who I call Pen/Pengu in MAA after their rebirth). Now, as already stated multiple times already there are a lot of differences depending on sources! Not to mention different beliefs and religions also have different stories, so I am just going off of what I have found and consistencies within them!
To start Pangu is said to have been born from something called a "Cosmic Egg" on their Wiki page which was formed from the vast nothingness of space! Now, depending on source Pangu was either sent by the Celestial Realm to do what he did next or just decided that he had enough of the Celestial Realm messing with the Earth. Regardless, he took his axe and cut Yin from Yang and as such split the Celestial Realm from the Earth.
Pangu then spent the next 18,000 years pushing the two apart creating the space in between before finally dying and collapsing. After that Pangu turned into everything. The Sun, the Moon, the Mountains everything and anything.
One source (Nüwa's Wiki specifically) suggests that Nüwa and her twin Fuxi were born from Pangu's child, making them Pangu's grandchildren!
Also on Nüwa's page is something of note and another major source for my upcoming theory, a note on Pangu that isn't listed on Pangu's Wiki.
"Pangu was said to be the creation god in Chinese Mythology. He was a giant sleeping within an egg of chaos. As he awoke, he stood up and divided the sky and the earth."
Specifically pay attention to that second line. He was a giant sleeping within an egg of chaos.
Now, what is MK consistently called; Harbinger of Chaos.
Which is exactly what Pangu would have likely been seen as to anybody around when he separated the Heavens and Earth!
Tumblr media
Onto my theory now for LMK specifically.
When Nüwa made MK she probably had a plan or a reason. (Again, I haven't seen Season 5 so people might have more clues to support or rip this part). There is no way she would just make a Harbringer of Chaos unless she had a set reason and I suspect that reason had to do with Pangu.
Specifically bringing Pangu back.
From some sources I found they suggest that Pangu was ordered to separate the two to prevent the Celestial Realm from taking advantage of those on Earth. Things that seem to be happening a lot in LMK or seem to be a major concern in LMK. People keep saying there is injustice, that people aren't doing their jobs, that things need to change!
And sometimes the best change comes from chaos itself.
So, I feel that when Pengu's body was sacrificed his soul survived and he was reborn as MK or at least his powers were given to MK so that he could help bring forth a new level of peace to the Realms. An immeasurable amount of power would need a mentor, a brother and somebody who could help teach him how to control it? What better than a Celestial Primate to teach a Primordial Primate?
Wukong - being considered a Celestial after finishing his journey - would be the best choice to raise MK. But Wukong panicked and set MK away to keep him safe - maybe even from himself. He likely wouldn't trust himself with another celestial monkey after he killed Macaque. Not only that but being raised by Pigsy would make sure that MK stayed out of trouble that he was more 'tamed' than Wukong was when he was born and to keep him safe.
He would only come in when MK had accessed his power. Which could be why he was keeping an eye on MK for as long as he had been, then when he picked up the staff Wukong realized he was strong enough and it was time for him to act and train MK.
Now! My spouse just told me that Mac has a kind of power or made some kind of deal with somebody without him knowing it and I have a theory about that too. We saw in Season 1 that Mac can temporary steal and use powers from others. This makes my spouse think that Mac is Pangu's reincarnation but I think that this is only more proof of MK being Pangu.
Why?
Because who in their right mind would give all of Pangu's powers to one creature and then to leave that child with Sun Wukong? I don't think anybody would go with that idea! But I also think that all four Celestial Primates exist to keep the peace, so when Macaque died he would need something else to bring him back. Something more than just a deal with the literal devil (Looking at you LBD!). He would need power. Specifically a power to help him regain and recover his powers.
From what I've found about Pangu from varying sources it implies that as he grew to stretch the space between the two realms he also grew in strength and power. This makes me think that maybe he had a power that allowed him to steal and absorb other powers.
A power that Macaque potentially got from him.
I think MK is Pangu and in the same way Pangu sacrificed himself to bring peace I think MK will have to do the same (clips I've seen kind of support this I think?) But I also think that while MK was born from the same stone as Wukong, he has more in common with Macaque because they share the same source of power.
Again, all a theory and I would love to know if you guys have your own theory or what you think of this one! If you don't wanna leave a comment feel free to chuck a question at me or message me :3 I don't mind!

Hi @fansids! Long time no talk! I did see you putting up some sketches of your lmk au, and and such I had to ask if you were thinking of having Sun Wukong's friends from jttw (the Macaque Demon King, the Snub-Nosed Monkey King, the Lion Camel King, etc.) make an appearance?
Hey! What's up?
I'm so glad you ask, because yes!
They appear in the Reverse Prince Au. The only one who I got anywhere presentable in designing was the Macaque Demon King because monke. Ignore her weird proportions:
Tumblr media
I can't usually imagine voices for characters all that well, but I feel strongly that she sounds like Shohreh Aghdashloo. She's been old since she and SWK met. The Demon Kings part of the story takes place in her territory of the LEGO equivalent of the Himalayas since thats where the Demon Kings congregated to meet about the whole LBD thing.
As for the story:
Plot-wise the Demon Kings were there to help against LBD, but I can't for the life of me remember the specifics of that plan since I never wrote it down. I am definitely regretting it...
Thematically they were part of Red Son's continuous journey of accepting all the parts of his less than stellar past, making peace with it, and moving on. More specifically about how he'll always be Princess Iron Fan and the Demon Bull King's son, and that's not something he can ignore as it comes to play hard in that part. They also worsen part of Qi Xiaotian's issues of constantly feeling like a placeholder for other people.
Also, minor thing, but Red Son is constantly referred to as the Demon Bull Prince in that arc, as he is the son of DBK. While Qi Xiaotian is the son of the false Sun Wukong, hence his original au being called the "False Prince AU." And both are treated accordingly, so that's fun.

Funny thing is that LMK is so focused on the Camel Ridge Trio that they never explore the other members.
There's the (scale)flood dragon king/sea dragon king. Depending on translation
macaque king/female monkey demon king. Depends on translation
Snub nosed monkey king/ape demon king. Again depends on translation.
((I don't even think Yellow tusk was part of the brotherhood))
Truth!
They don't mention the rest of The Seven Sages in the LMK Brotherhood, likely to keep things streamlined. And the story in LMK folds the Camel Ridge characters into the supposedly unrelated Brotherhood sages.
Yellowtusk isn't even part of the Sages gang in the book, as he and the Camel Ridge Trio represent different divine Buddhist animals. I guess either Yellowtusk sat in one of the Seven's chairs, or their were more sworn members not counted in their trademarked name.
And ofc LMK Macaque's character was folded into the Macaque King/Female Monkey Demon King/"Great Sage Informing Wind/Ventilation" to give him and Sun Wukong a spicier backstory. And tbf the two Macaques being the same is a popular Jttw fan theory for hundreds of years, especially with the Macaque King's title refering to hearing wind + Six Eared Macaque's hearing abilities. Also accidentally makes the LEM afab so I like it too.
For some reason the Flood Dragon King/Sea Dragon King/"Great Sage Overturning the Sea" makes me think of the Dragon King from the Netflix Monkey King movie. Maybe its the same guy. The (Salamander) part of his name is aparently a reference to him being not a "true" dragon due to one of his parents being a serpent demon instead. It would be really cool if Flood Dragon King showed up in LMK as a new baddie that the Camel Ridge Trio deliberately avoided cus of some bad stuff that happened. XD
And ofc Long-Tailed Marmoset/Snub-nosed Monkey/Tamarin/Lion King/ never gets mentioned. Tamarins are *tiny* monkeys, so maybe the others keep forgetting to look down. XD The "lion" part of their name likely refers to them being a Golden Lion Tamarin;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now I'm interested in what havoc a cat-sized adorable monkey did to be known as the "Great Sage Who Drives Away Gods". I wanna see this tiny mf be like the chihuahua of the Brotherhood, taking out everyone's ankles.

I think SWK is monkey pretty (obviously) and literally Uncanny Valley pretty like— he looks like a monkey but he's not, he just looks and acts and plays like a monkey, but he ISN'T. He walks a shaky line between Yaoguai and celestials too. and I've always seen him w human features sometimes.
I know the book says explicitly that he does look like that. A primate and that he's also short as fuck. But I think him sitting between monkey/ape/gibbon/macaque (or a mix of all four), Yaoguai, Celestial body, and human seems right with me.
For example, the Blackmyth WuKong's design:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IT SITS JUST RIGHT. He's more human-like in his features but??? It's also very clear that he's a simian. The Monkey King Hero Is Back is like this too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Very monkey. It's so clear and if you say that he's a monkey then I'd believe you, though I'd also doubt it. He just doesn't feel like one, or his monkey features also just doesn't sit too close to that territory. I feel like he's literally a walking Uncanny Valley amongst the other monkeys from Flower Fruit Mountain.
Some people say he could be a golden snub-nosed monkey, but SWK being based on rhesus macaques is much more convincing. He's drawn in those features in arts more, too. I know he's a stone monkey born from absorbing essence from Heaven and Earth (as well as from "nothingness" thus what Subodhi named him after) but— he doesn't belong on any existing specific genus of primates. Some wikis even only classify his "species" as "Stone Monkey, Based on rhesus macaques". Literally just "based", as in he only looks like one. A macaque-looking primate.
Also I'm not sure but isn't he also classified as a demon or Yaoguai as some sort? I don't remember well. Then, but then, I realized that in Chinese Mythology the world was created from Nothingness, too, until the giant Pan Gu cut the single line to make Yin and Yang.
"Chinese creation myths are symbolic narratives about the origins of the universe, earth, and life. In Chinese mythology, the term "cosmogonic myth" or "origin myth" is more accurate than "creation myth", since very few stories involve a creator deity or divine will. Chinese creation myths fundamentally differ from monotheistic traditions with one authorized version, such as the Judeo-Christian Genesis creation narrative: Chinese classics record numerous and contradictory origin myths. Traditionally, the world was created on Chinese New Year and the animals, people, and many deities were created during its 15 days.
In contrast to the above Chinese cosmogonic myths about the world and humans originating spontaneously without a creator (e.g., from "refined vital energy" in the Huainanzi), two later origin myths for humans involve divinities. The female Nüwa fashioned people from loess and mud (in early myths) or from procreating with her brother/husband Fuxi (in later versions). Myths about the male Pangu say that people derived from mites on his corpse. "
Tumblr media
The Palaces of the Nine Constellations and the Eight Trigrams from the egg also corresponds to seasonal nodes (Winter Solstice, Beginning of Spring, Spring Equinox, Beginning of Summer, Summer Solstice, Beginning of Autumn, Autumn Equinox, and Beginning of Winter.) — which can mean that not only SWK was birthed from Heaven and Earth (as well as the Sun and Moon), he was also made with more yang essences than he is with yin. The Eight Trigrams may have also contributed with his immortality. You can see about the 24 solar stems of the calendar too if you're curious.
The book is chock full of body horror, too, but it happens more during the journey itself than in the beginning. SWK's immortality and healing makes it possible for him to do these things, but I have my own theory that he's not made of flesh (or anything that makes a living thing, well, living in terms of biological stuff) and that he was born from a magic stone and and is a stone monkey— his flesh/body is more like a very thick solidification of yin and yang essence, much like how the world was created in Chinese Mythology. Then perhaps balanced w the essences of the two celestial bodies, the Sun and Moon. This could contribute to how he's so hard to injure and why the Samadhi fire didn't do much damage on him, and not just because he hid closer to where the wind seal inside the crucible is.
OOF I got sidetracked a little bit but this has been sitting in my head since morning. It's just that when I look of drawings of SWK I recognize he's a monkey, but it feels like he's just something else posing as one. Like using a suit so well it blends just enough to look right. I could do more research on this but I don't have the time rn so...
But anyway— I think it's pretty cool that SWK is only based on rhesus monkeys, but not classified as one considering his origin. It's very cool and somewhat creepy and maybe even creepier for the other monkeys and animals in Flower Fruit Mountain. He's natural, but something under all that fur and skin just doesn't feel right.
Also here's a fic I've been developing as of late, if anyone's interested in reading :v

LMK/LEGO MONKIE KID SEASON 4 SPOILERS
-
-
-
Something I was thinking about was what if the Camel Ridge Trio, were each supposed to act as counterparts to DBK, Macaque & SWK
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we see SWK’s brotherhood in season 4 we see six characters at a table set for eight this could be a reference to how in JTTW had a brotherhood with six other great kings/ great sages going from memory they were:
The Demon Bull King
The Dragon Flood Demon King
The Peng Demon King
The Lion Camel King
The Snub Nose Monkey King
The Macaque King
Out of the characters that we see as part of SWK’s brotherhood in LMK the Demon Bull King is the only one who was actually part of SWK’s brotherhood in JTTW.
It appears that LMK might be combining various characters that SWK faced during the journey with members of his brotherhood, most likely to create more tragic relationships; combining Macaque with The Macaque King, the Azure Lion with The Lion Camel King and Peng with The Peng Demon King.
Along side LMK combining those three characters, it also appears that LMK has changed SWK from having a brotherhood with six others to seven others in order to include the Yellow Tusked Elephant who was one of the three rulers of Lion Camel Ridge along with the Azure Lion & Peng
It might be possible that the two empty seats we see are supposed to represent the Snub Nose Monkey King & the Dragon Flood Demon King who are the remaining members of SWK’s brotherhood that have not yet appeared or been combined with another character.
Tumblr media
Going back to the theory that each member of the Camel Ridge Trio, were each supposed to act as counterparts to DBK, Macaque & SWK the first clue that that might be the case are how all the characters at the table are seated; Azure Lion & SWK are both seated at the heads of the table, DBK & Yellow Tusk are seated across from each other and Macaque & Peng are also sitting across from each other.
If the positions at the table are clues on how each member of the Camel Ridge Trio, were each supposed to act as counterparts to DBK, Macaque & SWK, then Azure Lion is supposed to be SWK’s counterpart, Yellow Tusk is supposed to be DBK’s & Peng is supposed to be Macaque’s.
Tumblr media
MK: Is this what dying is like?
SWK: Relax a little telepathic communication never hurt anybody, I think
Tumblr media
Mei: Is this what dying is like
Azure Lion: Eh a little astral projection never hurt anyone
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SWK: You
Azure Lion: Me
At the start of season 4 Azure Lion presented himself as a helpful mentor figure to MK & Mei in SWK’s absence before his true intentions where revealed even saying lines similar to SWK. It might not be much of a stretch to view SWK & Azure Lion as possible counterparts in the story that LMK is trying to tell as they both seem to be opposed to one another.
Tumblr media
DBK: A true leader should be big! Strong!
Tumblr media
Yellow Tusk: The Demon Bull King was our last hope of reforging the brotherhood
In regards to DBK & Yellow Tusk being counterparts to one another though we do not see DBK & Yellow Tusk interact much it’s clear that they had held respect for one another, on a more meta scale DBK & Yellow Tusk could be regarded as counterparts as in contrast to LMK adding Yellow Tusk onto SWK’s brotherhood, DBK is the only member of SWK’s brotherhood in LMK who was actually part of SWK’s brotherhood in JTTW
Tumblr media
Peng: You always were the most cowardly of the bunch Macaque
Tumblr media
Peng: Your characteristically quiet Macaque
Tumblr media
Peng: As for Macaque, well, that coward has tucked himself away somewhere even I can’t sniff him out
In regards to Peng & Macaque being counterparts it’s clear that Peng is the one in the brotherhood who interacted with Macaque the most outside of SWK as Peng is the one in the brotherhood who talks to Macaque directly & includes him in conversation. Peng’s focus on Macaque might be that LMK is trying to form some form of connection between Peng & Macaque that is similar to the connection between Azure Lion & SWK as similar to how Azure Lion would say similar lines to SWK, Peng appears to taunt Mei in a similar way to Macaque in season 3
Tumblr media
Macaque: Little girl you can shoot me all you want it won’t do you any good
Tumblr media
Peng: Greetings little girl
This is all mostly just speculation but I thought it would be interesting if each member of the brotherhood was meant to act as counterparts to one another.

SO PRETTY
OP's tags @antidotefortheawkward-art: #i stand by my statement that wukong's rise and fall could be its own series#OKAY SO generals beng and ba are stated to be gibbons but marshals ma and liu are just 'female monkeys' so im assuming theyre macaques#grandma is golden snub-nosed monkey :>#little kid hanging off of marshal beng is a gibbon#xiao zhang is a dusky leaf monkey#sorry the kids' names are sorta cliche gjfdksdsd i wanted them to be clearly references#hope people enjoy recognizing them :> i think i made them obvious enough#btw wukong. marshal ma. and the generals all have opera makeup on but marshal liu is the type of macaque with those red markings naturally#also ma and liu are twins because. cmon theyre basically named 'mon' and 'key' you cant tell me those arent twin names#also its not v ''clear'' with my art style but the beng and ba are girls- jttw needs more female characters and macaques are matrilineal so#also bc we all know i self project onto wukong and i am but a trans guy who grew up in an 'all-girls' school used to being token boy#👉👈 i like how i rendered these.... jttw movie concept art vibes...

LMK Wukong’s Sworn Brothers clear up
Tumblr media
For LMK fans wondering who this peeps are I just wanna make a post where I think LMK is taking Wukong’s sworn brothers
So in the original novel he has six Sworn Brothers
Female Macaque King 獼猴王
Snub Nose Monkey King (a gibbon) 禺狨王
Demon Bull King 牛魔王
Dragon Demon King 蛟魔王
Lion Demon King 獅駝王
Peng Demon King 鵬魔王
All these were brothers, who fought with him in the battle verse Heaven and there are many interpretations of how they could have had a falling out since Wukong showed preference over his own monkeys compared to the non-monkey soldiers. Only one of these brothers was seen again within the journey and that is the Demon Bull Kung. Otherwise WuKong has never addressed any other demon as his sworn brother, or claims to have known them as as such as he has done with DBK
The demons we see in the picture are as follows
Yellow Tooth Elephant king 黃牙老象
Azure Lion King/Lynx-Lion King 青毛獅子 / 獅猁怪
Golden Wing Great Peng 金翅大鵬雕
Now within the book, it is clear that these are not meant to be seen as the same demons as his brothers however, I believe LMK is going to make the creative decision to have these three demons be Wukongs sworn brothers as they are given more book time not only as villains, but I’ll give them back stories as well, allowing LMK more creative freedom to tie them with Wukongs OG Sworn brothers.
While I am sad that the original six sages are not going to be part of the series, nor will they probably be given designs, I do find this very creative and interesting, take of having future villains having personal connections with Wukong! Can’t wait to see what they do!
