THIS IS NOT AN INSULT OR CRITICISM OR ARGUMENT ATTEMPT OR ANY OTHER HOSTILE INTERACTION!!!
For the Monster High AU would you be willing to explain the thought process behind your species selection? Like why you made Eda a werewolf instead of a harpy, or why you plan to make Amity a vampire?
I have played with this AU idea before, but never actually done anything with it. Just figured out what monsters the characters would be.
I could post spoilers on what monsters I plan to make the others so I can explain my thought process:
I made Eda a werewolf instead of a harpy simply because there are no relevant harpy characters. In all of Monster High, there's only one harpy and she's a background character (not even a side character like Venus, Rochelle, or Robecca). There WAS also a harpy in the "Make Your Own Monster" set but she's not an actual character in the show and looked completely different than the other harpy girl. I wouldn't even know what to do for a design.
Meanwhile, werewolves are SUPER important to the Monster High franchise. One of the original three girls is a werewolf, two of her werewolf siblings are reoccurring characters with a lot of focus on them, and the second movie is entirely focused on werewolves and vampires.
I didn't have a werewolf in the main cast yet so I thought Eda would fit since she has a transformation like how werewolves do on a full moon, she's good at sports like how werewolves are shown to be, and her name has "Claw" in it.
Amity is a vampire because rich and snobby
Willow is a plant monster for obvious reasons
Gus is a zombie because he's intelligent but taken advantage of by others
Hunter is Frankenstein's (Belos's) monster because he was created in the likeness of another person
Lilith is a werewolf like Eda
Raine is a ghost/phantom because they're shy, secretive, and play music
Darius is a gorgon (Medusa monster) because he has magic hair that's alive
Aladaor, Odalia, and the twins are vampire for the same reason as Amity
Vee is the same
#i got worried reading the disclaimer at the beginning lol#asks#also eberwolf is also a werewolf because wolf#the batts are vampire because bats#bosha is a cyclops because eye#skara is a mummy because royalty#why is skara a mummy and not amity?#cause amity is whi-

Chapter 9, part 3/5
Merry Christmas everybody! I for some reasons always end up uploading on the holidays. Oh well, enjoy the little comic.
Luz is relying the argument she had with Lilith and what she was told by Darius to Willow and Gus, both whom are in the garden right now. Willow says that whole event sounded really intense, and asks Luz how she is feeling.
Luz admits she feels very angry at Lilith, saying she is
“really mean.”
However she also feels some sort of pity for Lilith, she has no actual control over her life but is expected to perform perfection at all times. She writes:
“she’s trapped.”
Luz then wonders if she could befriend Lilith, but Willow and Gus advise against that. Willow especially advises against that idea, saying that it would be an unequal relationship and Luz would be the one constantly giving, giving and giving. Luz concedes and agrees with Willow, but she does feel some sense of sadness. She doesn’t understand why Lilith seems to hate her so much. Willow and Gus tell Luz that Lilith is just a snobby jerk stuck in her own misery and to just forget about her. They reassure Luz that she has them and she’ll always have them to rely on.
A guard approaches them and informs Willow and Gus that Willow’s Dads are here to pick the both of them up. Willow and Gus wave goodbye to Luz and (after a couple of hours) Luz decides to leave the garden too.
However, Luz accidentally leaves her journal behind by the statue (seriously Luz, you got to stop losing your symbolic objects you got from your parental figure that represents your relationships with said parental figure.) and is picked up by Lilith. She reads through some of Luz's words, including her frustrations with her, and Lilith reflects a little on her actions.
Will this snobby noble be our next quirky Aunty? Stay tuned on Friday!!

Why The Prince of Egypt Suceeded As A Movie , Not just as an Adaptation of the Biblical Story
I watched this so many times, that it awoken the complicated feelings of empathy, sympathy and conflict in me. I have watched so much reaction videos about this and no disrespect to Christians (I grew up Christian btw) however I think that a lot have missed the point of Ramses as Moses' family and instead took the original Biblical passage to heart so much, that the complicated themes were sort of thrown out the window.
Biblical stories are a little tricky to adapt. People who grew up exposed to the religion know what it was like watching those animated shows and videos of biblical stories and how in your face the religion is. I still remember watching the dubbed version of Super Book (if ya know, ya know). There is a whole subject dedicated to just studying Christianity, carrying bibles and learning and relearning passages, assigned reading at weekly masses, and having quizzes about the homily everyone slept on after the holy communion (it was supposed to be wine, but they probably made is drank grape juice with some water, the "bread" is a little piece of wafer that just disintegrates in your tongue the moment you eat it).
I speak for this very specific audience, I know. To the people who didn't, this is what it was like. But funny enough, not once did they play the Prince of Egypt for us. Actually, I remember some of my peers not liking it, and they were hardcore Christians, by the way, like voluntarily praying in cathedrals. Yet, I have also heard people who aren't even Christian LOVE this film. It's just a beautiful film of so many other aspects.
I found it ironic that the complicated parts of the story was the hardest part to really understand. Yet there I was, 12 years old, one of the ones who weren't so devoted to the religion, binging this movie. I wanted to understand those complicated feelings, especially with Ramses and Moses.
Let me discuss the emotional stakes here and how sad and sympathetic everything was.
First, I am glad that Moses was really portrayed to be part of the royal family. That's what a lot of the adaptations did not take on with creative liberties with, Moses was always portrayed as a snobby prince in the first act. Moses was Ramses' brother and best friend, and you can tell how much they trusted and loved each other. They were really a family. Ramses, despite being older, looked up to Moses, as he was there for him ALWAYS. The love they shared was so great that it made the movie so sad. Their destinies to be enemies were so heartbreaking.
Now Ramses. Hey, I do not condone any of what he had done. However, he was a result of his upbringing. Pressured to be Pharaoh, all his life, his belief that slavery was just hard laborers to a good cause they are building was passed down to him. I can not blame him entirely for growing up to be what he is. The tough love was so tough, there was NO love. That man got daddy issues, he really promised to make an even greater Egypt than what his father built by literally having a larger monument of him than his father's. Its like Homelander and Gus, the need for approval of a father was so rooted in Ramses, it lived on even after his death. Let me also say there was no changing him, even when Moses was still in his life. Moses was also brought up like him. The beliefs passed down were the same, and they were raised in the same environment after all. But like any other two people living in the same system, they were bound to be different, but no one could have prepared their fate to be against each other in the future.
No matter how many scenarios we can make up for both of them to still be brothers and not be enemies, there was really nothing that could change what was going to happen.
It hurt to see how happy Ramses to see his brother, welcoming him with open arms, not as Pharaoh but a brother. Moses, too, I could not imagine having to do that to his adoptive family, his beloved brother, and best friend.
But well, they OUTGREW each other, but damn they really just had to be enemies, huh?
I will say, making them brothers makes sense how Moses got away with the plagues of Egypt. Not just because he WAS royalty of them or just because the Pharaoh was so stubborn, but because even when Ramses is Pharaoh, he loves Moses so much, even with resentment. He could never imagine to eliminate or to imprison him. I appreciate the writers connecting that and it was so much more impactful for the story.
Only when Ramses' son was gone where the hatred overcame him to really attack the Hebrews.
Oh, the taking of the first borns. It was a brutal crime for Ramses's father and predecessor to eliminate the first borns of the Hebrews, but it was just as brutal for God to take the first borns, too. The scene where Ramses lay his son's body to be then mummified and Moses even trying to console him, only to be hissed at (UNDERSTANABLY). He set the slaves free, yes, but this is an important scene that no one really won. Moses broke down, we know he never wanted this, he couldn't get through Ramses but this didn't have to happen. Ramses was stubborn and prideful, yes, but he is still a father. He is overcome with extreme hatred at this point, that Moses is not his brother anymore, but a man who is responsible for his son's death.
Damn, Ramses loved his son the way his father never did. I feel like he raised his son like the way he and Moses had fun. Those small scenes of pure affection and adoration for his son, his son was always involved in the kingdom, always hugged and protected by him and just before the scene where Moses turned the lake into blood, you can see him and his son bonding and just having fun. That essence of fun literally could have only come from his bond with Moses, which DOUBLES the sadness. Man, my overthinking makes this way too harsh on me.
Nonetheless, that "death" scene should never have been glamorized and I am glad that it was portrayed like that. Its not sweet revenge, it was brutal. No one had to die, especially children. No one was really happy in this scene, even with the grant of freedom.
The animation, by they way, I learned that it was a mix of PAINTINGS and 2D animation, damn those animators should be proud of their work. This is such a masterpiece.
There is another animated adaptation after this, by Dreamworks as well. It was Joseph: King of Dreams. The animation is made to TV level but otherwise okay. I do wish they made one of Queen Esther. If you guys don't know or are interested, pick up the bible. I tell you now, as a literature enthusiast, the bible has stories that should be told in the way Dreamworks succeeded in telling the Exodus story. No fanatic air please.
CAN I ALSO JUST SAY HOW HOT EVERYONE IS
I think my type was born here, the men were good looking, Moses got that good beard and Ramses had age with him actually, the jawline and those sculpted cheeks?
But, Ramses' mom though? GODDESS. Zipporah? HER EYES AND SPARK and Miriam, girl, I think my type came from her. Jawline, smile, kindness damn.

Alright. I've seen a heck of a lot of gifs and fanart and comics about The Owl House. I'm finally gonna watch it and write down some of my observations.
(spoiler alert, obviously)
• Omfg her name is "loose". I've been pronouncing Luz like it rhymes with "buzz" this entire time.
• Nothing could have prepared me for Hooty's voice. In fact, no one sounds like I thought they would. Eda is Wendie Malick? Was no one going to tell me this?
• I've only known King for five minutes, but if anything happens to him I will kill everyone in this room and then myself.
• King's voice was also not what I was expecting, which in hindsight was foolish of me. I knew it was Alex Hirsch. The Bill Cipher vibe should not have been a surprise.
• When does Hunter get here?
• Amity is the snobby high-achieving school bully?! BUT THE ROMANCE?!
• I know it's coming. I've seen far too many cute fan works of Amity and Luz for that not to be the case.
• SHE SQUISHED KING'S CUPCAKE THOUGH. 😡
• Ahhh. There's a teeeeny tiny glimpse of the Lumity that is to come. All is right with the world.
• Gus is just a little fella. Comics did not fully portray how smol he is.
• When does Hunter get here?
• I am up to episode 16 and I still watch the opening theme in its entirety for three reasons. One: it's fantastic. The music, the animation, it's all tops. Two: I'm waiting to see when/if the image of Amity changes. She still turns her back at the moment, but she's warming up, I know it. And three: the image of King perched on Luz's shoulders just before the title card makes me smile every time. He's so dang cute.
• Ok. So, I obviously already knew from tumblr that The Owl House is beloved, in part, for its representation of LGBTQIA. And now that I'm experiencing it first-hand? I totally get it. Everything feels so natural and understated. Luz blushing when either of the older Blight siblings spoke to her? The short, sweet glances between Luz and Amity? They're all the typical moments you'd expect to see between a male and a female character, and it's honestly so refreshing (and surprising, coming from Disney) to see it happening between two girls in a way that feels real. I am all aboard the Lumity train.
• In the span of 10 minutes, Eda has referred to Luz as "her kid", called herself "mama", and been shown wearing a watch with King's face on it. I love Mama Eda so much.
• DANCE BATTLE DANCE BATTLE DANCE BATTLE DANCE BATTLE DANCE BATTLE
• Amity has fallen so hard and honestly? Same.
• OMG EPISODE 18! I think that was my first glimpse of Hunter! Lilith cursed Eda?! Eda sacrificing herself for Luz! The end credits with that haunting beating of the heart!
• Season 1 is done and dusted! All those feel good family and found-family moments. This show has so much heart. Gravity Falls is one of my favourite shows, and The Owl House seems to share a lot of its tropes and themes. I'm really loving it! I have so many things I should be doing today. Am I going to watch start watching Season 2 instead? Darn tootin.
• ENTIRELY NEW OPENING SEQUENCE!! I love it! Everyone's kicking ass! And Hunter is there!! And they kept the final scene with King on Luz's shoulders!
• They're setting up The Golden Guard as this new, mysterious, powerful rival for Season 2. But I know too much so every little glimpse of him has me sitting here grinning goofily like a proud mum at her son's soccer game.
• Gus is less smol. Kids grow up so fast. :(
• Finally met Amity's parents (beyond the shadows of them we saw in Amity's memory). Odalia sucks. But I officially love one tired dad.
• "Stay away from my Luz!" !!!!!!!
• Baby King is the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life. King is king of MY heart.
• The Hunter episode was everything I ever wanted. He must be protected at all costs.
• Huh. Tumblr gave me a veeerry different impression of what Darius was going to be like. Incoming plot twist?
• LUMITY IS A GO!
• Eda immediately destroying the stress toy because of her need for chaos whilst never once breaking eye contact with Bump nearly killed me. I choked on my tea. Worth it.
• Hunter has just learned the truth. Someone give this kid a hug.
• KING IS A TITAN?! How big is my sweet baby boy gonna get?
• Steve is so cool getting around in his Steve shirt, just doing Steve things. Haha, classic Steve.
• Luz and Amity just shared their first kiss and it was perfect. And I feel like the animation in that scene was extra nice? Maybe it was just me, but it just seemed beautifully bouncy.
• Once again, the near-silent end credits for part one of the finale haunt my soul. Part two now. Bring it on!
• ...Take it back. D:
• That musical montage to kick off Season 3 packed in SO MUCH STORY. Luz coming out as bi and introducing Amity to her mum was incredibly sweet. Vee (who I admit I was a little bit creeped out by until now) has captured my heart. And I absolutely adore the friendship between Gus and Hunter.
• "Time to go home, Flapjack." 😭 HAS THIS BOY NOT BEEN THROUGH ENOUGH?!
• Raine being hearteyes for Harpy Eda, Camila being hearteyes for King, everyone being hearteyes for Stringbean? Mood.
• Obsessed with Eda's haircut.
• My girl Willow has been carrying a lot. Her realising that she needs to let things out and lean on her friends was such a tender moment.
• Willow and Hunter linking their pinkies! ❤
• Not prepared for this amazing show to be over, but here we go...
• Brb, too busy crying.
• Still crying, gimme a minute.
• I was holding it together riiiight up until Flapjack's grave. "Thank you for finding me" broke me.
• Ok. So, generally speaking... this was pretty much everything I wanted in a finale. Happy, healthy relationships, hints at future pairings, redemption for characters who deserved it, and a big middle finger to those who didn't (which, honestly? Refreshing af).
• Eda and King going feral after losing Luz, the reveal of Titan Luz, and the trio coming together to defeat Belos was utter perfection. The animation was on point!
• I am not ashamed to admit I said "NOW EAT THIS, SUCKA!" with Luz.
• Also, the Dad bod, the "Bad Girl Coven" tshirt, and the "I loaf you" pun were exactly what I should've expected from King's dad.
• The time skip end credits were a wonderful way to let us see the characters we know and love, living their best lives. Hunter finally able to exist peacefully, making new palismans with his own little Bluejay on his shoulder (admittedly, I'd hoped he'd get a wolf, but the Bluejay did seem well-suited), Willow and Gus truly coming into their own, Lilith rocking the Harpy form (and hinting a possible romance with Steve?? EDIT: ignore that, I just learned that Lilith is aroace and I am so excited about it.), lil' gangly King growing bigger and stronger... well, I don't need to keep pointing things out. Suffice to say, there were so many little details that worked together to create a beautiful picture.
• In the span of three days, I've watched a show that so many people were obsessed with for years.
• I get it now.
• Thank you Dana Terrace and everybody involved with making The Owl House. The world needs more shows like this, with a great story, genuine characters, represention of people from all walks of life, and heartfelt messages.
• Excuse me while I go and wallow in misery over the fact that it's finished before I start consuming as many fanfics as I can find.
• OH! One final note as someone who learned far too much from tumblr before actually watching the show. I kept seeing fanart that seemed to depict a Hunter lookalike (so, Caleb) and an Eda lookalike, who apparently was Evelyn Clawthorne? CLAWTHORNE?? So here I am waiting for another flashback/memory episode that would lay it all out and do that big reveal BUT APPARENTLY THAT'S FANON??? Y'all had me thinking I'd missed an episode.

Should you get bored :)
Perfectly platonic starters hmmm... you pick the fandom (also just gonna say that this one is ripe for oblivious friends to lovers trope and you can hate me for saying it but imma say it 💕)
“… sorry I took a nap on you.”
Sorry it took so long and I don't even know if you watch Owl House and this is strictly platonic Amity & Hunter friendship, but I put some Huntlow at the end😘
🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉
“Sorry I took a nap on you.”
“You didn’t take a nap on me, Hunter! You passed out! Now lay back down or help me Titan I’m gonna… do… something. Something unpleasant.”
“You really got to work on being more threatening. Weren’t you one of these snobby ‘I’m better than you’ girls once?” Hunter curses as Amity pushes him back down and keeps his head on her lap by twisting one of his ears. “Okay okay. I’ll stay down. Stop it!”
Amity blows hair out of her face and slowly lets go of his abused ear. She instead puts her hands on his shoulders. To an outsider it might look like a comforting gesture, but her grip is too tight to be anything less than a warning to stay put. She leans forward so her face hovers over his and she can look directly into his face, upside down. “What were you thinking? You told us you are fine.”
“I was fine.” At her raised eyebrow he looks away. “Fine enough. As if I’m gonna let you all go alone because of a small fever.”
Amity sighs, but her anger has pretty much fizzled out at this point. And maybe it wasn’t so much anger as it was fear. She can’t imagine anything worse than walking through the woods with a friend and then watching that friend collapse. Thank Titan Luz’s mother has insisted on buying all of them those prepaid phones and teaching them how to use them. The others are close by, looking for clues on how to get home, and they should be here soon enough. And as soon as they are done scolding Hunter for his recklessness they can get him home.
Amity looks down at the boy who was once her enemy and who she now considers one of her closests friends. She is reminded of their explosive fight, that time both of them were looking for titan’s blood. She remembers the moment she’d reached out her hand in friendship and how he’d pretty much slapped it away with a manic look in his eyes. Like an animal, desperate and lost, beaten one time too many to ever trust a reaching hand again.
“Look,” she says and loosens her grip. “I get it. You constantly feel the need to do something because if you can do something that means you are useful and that means you are worth something and we won’t send you away.”
Hunter flinches. He still won’t look at her, but his fingers drum against the ground and his eyes flit all over the place, much like Flapjack. “I don’t know what you-”
“But you don’t need to do that. You are our friend. More than that. Luz has pretty much adopted you as her brother and Willow and Gus would burn the Boiling Isles to the ground for you. And I have actually found you a lot less irritating recently.” He snorts and she smiles. “What I’m trying to say is that, for us, your worth isn’t defined by your usefulness. We won’t love you any less if you take some days to recover from your fever.” She lightly slaps at his temple. “So as soon as we get home, you lie down and don’t get up until you are at 100%. Got it?”
“Got it.” Hunter is effectively hiding his face and his voice sounds choked up, but Amity can barely see a tiny smile so she is pretty sure her message got through. Good.
Ugh. She’s exhausted. These emotional pep talks are so much more Luz’s thing.
As if on cue, Hunter pokes her in the ribs and grins up at her. His eyes are red-rimmed, but she is a good friend now so she doesn’t call attention to it. “Luz has really rubbed off on you. She’ll be sorry she missed this.”
“Don’t you dare tell her!”
She’ll be insufferable. Aww’ing and Ohhh’ing and calling them adorable and telling Amity how proud she is of her emotionally mature girlfriend and how she deserves a kiss for that and-
You know what? Maybe Luz knowing wouldn’t be so bad.
“Hunter!” A voice calls out through the woods. “Hunter! Amity! Where are you?”
“Over here!” Amity calls back and pushes Hunter back down again. “Hey! Come on now, just stay down!”
“That’s Willow!” Hunter squeaks. “I don’t want her to see me like this!”
Amity is about to scold him because has he heard nothing of her impassioned speech? But then she notices the flushed cheeks that have nothing to do with his fever and smirks. “Oh don’t worry, Hunt’. She already knows you are a damsel in distress. Maybe if you ask real nicely she will carry you home. Bridal style.”
Hunter gapes at her and the flush gets even darker (which is pretty adorable actually), but before he can argue further, Willow bursts through the treeline like a forest goddess, nostrils flaring and leaves and sticks caught in her hair.
(Willow does carry Hunter home bridal style and insists on it even more when the boy’s face gets redder and redder since that obviously means his fever is spiking. Amity just laughs.)

Not a fic request, but can you tell us more about how Darius bought Hunter four purses to spite some snobs?
Darius absolutely went to some bougie as hell store to find Hunter the best purses that would match outfits. Like one matches his everyday outfit, another matches his Flyer Derby uniform, one matches his "Fancy clothes" outfit darius makes him wear when they go to events and then another one matches Flapjack.
He got ones that matches outfits, but also had a ridiuclous amount of pockets so Hunter gets SUPER excited whenever he wears one of the purses out, he's there like "Oh, Gus, your hands are full? Well, you can put your scroll right here in my PURSE!!!" "Amity, you dont have any pockets for your chapstick? Well, i have a pocket JUST for lipstick and lip balm!" "Hey Luz! Luz, do you need me to hold your wallet cause i have a pcoket in my purse JUST for that." and whenever hes out with Darius, darius will dress up super glam or something and just stare down snobby moms who give them strange looks and they'll shut up

Gretchen Grundler for the character ask
Favorite thing about them: Her scientific and academic genius is always fun to watch, both because its sheer scope is funny (no real nine-year-old could ever be that much of a prodigy) and because it always comes in handy. T.J. would probably be lost without her, since her analytical skills ensure that his lavish plans work in the real world. Yet she's never snobby about her intelligence, but is one of the warmest, kindest characters in the series.
Least favorite thing about them: Probably her role in "Pharaoh Bob," when she gets too absorbed in her role as master builder of Bob's pyramid and takes part in oppressing the other kids. But she's far from the only kid in this show to be temporarily corrupted by power, and she snaps out of it just in time at the episode's climax.
Three things I have in common with them:
*I got good grades in school.
*I'm not athletic – and unlike her, I'm not even good with yo-yos.
*I'm normally mild mannered, but when I'm provoked enough (as she was in "The Girl Was Trouble," for example), I can go berserk.
Three things I don't have in common with them:
*I'm not nearly as smart as she is.
*I've never had more than a moderate interest in science.
*I'm not tall or skinny.
Favorite line:
Her advice to the Library Kid:
"Perhaps you can learn to enjoy recess without going nuts, and likewise learn how to utilize the library without moving in. You know, like the ancient Greeks said: "all things in moderation"... Look, I love books too. But there's more to life than just reading, just like there's more to life than just recess. The secret is not too much or too little of either."
brOTP: T.J., Spinelli, Vince, Mikey, and Gus.
OTP: None until she's older; when the time is right, maybe Vince, maybe one of the Pale Kids, or maybe someone she hasn't met yet.
nOTP: Jeffrey from "The Pest."
Random headcanon: When she grows up she will become a famous scientist who helps the world in many ways, but she'll never succeed in cloning herself.
Unpopular opinion: I don't see all the alleged "Ship Tease" between her and Vince that both the Recess and Disney Wikis and TV Tropes claim is in the show. They're good friends and I'm all in favor of shipping them, but I don't see any particular evidence that they have crushes on each other. Could someone please provide a list of all the supposed hints, like the list on Recess Wiki of the show's many T.J./Spinelli moments? What am I overlooking?

Benoit Blanc is a world-famous detective. Dies in mere minutes once his involvement is leaked
Sherlock Holmes would rule out grim reaper magic books immediately and spend the rest of the story conjuring red herrings
Shawn Spencer would die, but would have introduced Gus as Felonious Funk, and gives him the last clues needed to catch Light before dying. 2 weeks of antics
Mystery Gang would be shutting down an alligator breeding mill in South Florida. They would not investigate a mass murder in Japan
Waver Velvet would get him (uses an alias) but it would take a long fucking time to narrow it down considering how many magic means and opportunities there are. Full year
L Lawliet becomes too gay and dies. Canon ending, 6 months
Columbo immediately suckers Light in by playing dumb, goads him into making a mistake, never gives out his first name, and has exclusively played snobby rich murderers for chumps for decades, without fail. Days if not hours
Dr. House is called to diagnose the massive string of heart attacks in Japanese prisons. He has no fucking idea
Phoenix Wright has 3 days to solve the case. He manages to put Misa Amane away in that time frame, but he is unable to tackle Light until the sequel. 6 months minimum
In conclusion, Columbo stomps.
Please reblog to increase data size. Please also add how long you think it would take and why.
#I also want to add to this that Will Graham would figure it out with Hannibal's help#but just as they corner Light they start making out and Ryuk leaves (homophobic) taking the death note with him

REVIEW
Three Cowboys and a Bride by Kate Pearce
Three Cowboys #3
Three ex-Navy SEALs gone cowboy find love in this series. Max meets Phoebe in Reno four years before the story begins and their reunion proves interesting, indeed!
What I liked: * Phoebe: British, bright, responsible, honest, communicates well, has given much time to her family, wants her inheritance in full and is willing to do what it takes to get it, attracted to Max from the beginning but will she get all that she wants before the book ends?
* Max: ex-SEAL, adolescent trouble maker, settled down in the military, good friend, capable, has insecurities and self-worth issues, uses humor as armor, tends to suppress rather than confront, is attracted to Phoebe, has trouble communicating, wants Phoebe but will he be able to have her?
* Luke & Berrnie: missed their story in book two of the trilogy BUT Luke seems wise, competent, aware, and there for those he is responsible for and cares about
* Noah & Jen: remembering their story, that I did read, was a lot of fun – both were positive influences in this book though Noah was a grumpy Gus for awhile
* The bachelor party - interesting and thoughtful of Max to come up with that event
* The way the relationship grew between Max & Phoebe and the way it…eventually…worked out
* That Phoebe’s background didn’t impede her ability to slip into ranch life and fit in well
* All of it really except…
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Phoebe’s oppressive manipulative relatives
* Not being able to understand Max’s parents
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington-Zebra for the ARC – This is my honest review
4-5 Stars
BLURB
New York Times bestselling author Kate Pearce is back with a delightful new romance about a gutsy cowboy who learns that he’ll gamble it all for the woman he loves . . . Cowboy Max Romero is a married man—even if he hasn’t seen his bride since their impulsive Reno wedding. When the seriously sexy Brit Phoebe Creighton-Smith suddenly shows up in his life again, the last thing he expects is a request to play man-and-wife in front of her family. But it sounds like a challenge to the mischievous Max, who offers Phoebe one in return—give up proper English etiquette for riding the range like a real rancher’s woman. Phoebe is willing to rope a stallion, if it means she can convince her grandmother to release the trust fund she’s entitled to after marriage. She’ll just have to pretend that her deliciously brawny “husband” isn’t tempting her to total abandon every minute of every day—and night. But just when the heat between them crackles into a blaze, Phoebe’s snobby clan forces Max to make a choice, he knows he’ll risk everything to convince her that with them, true love is a sure thing . . .

When I was a lad before Redlettermedia and such, we had individual websites that would review bad movies, and the first one I discovered was called Stomp Tokyo. They used to have to type words because videos weren’t really a thing the internet could do well, you used to have to read those words with your eyeballs. Stomp Tokyo was part of a group they called The B-Masters Cabal which was a gathering of similar websites that would sometimes collaborate together and promote each other, and each of the B-Masters had their own gimmicks and niches that made them all kinda unique. Sadly most of the websites, while still up, haven’t updated in years, and are riddled with broken links. They are relics of a forgotten era of the internet when people had their own webbed sites, and not just a fucking discord server.
My favorite of the B-Masters was called Teleport City. Teleport City had a bit of different atmosphere compared to the other B-Masters. I got the sense, even as a kid, that Teleport City fucked. What sort of made them different from their compatriots was that Teleport City also covered music, like cool music I had never heard of, and they also covered alcohol. They would describe alcohol in intriguing and evocative ways, and while I couldn’t relate to these due to lack of personal experience, the way they were written always stuck with me.
I had always thought alcohol was just gross medicine tasting stuff people drank exclusively to get drunk, but here they were, a website I trusted to tell me which Godzilla movies to watch, was saying that there was a whole tapestry of flavors to explore when I was older.
I am older now, and truthfully I don’t drink that much. I haven’t had anything to drink actually in well over a year until today. However I am very bored, and I went to the liquor store today to try something new, so I thought I’d take a crack at writing a snobby alcohol review.
I went to the local discount liquor store and bought a mediumish sized bottle of Gordon’s London Dry Gin, I had wanted to buy the fancy blue bottle stuff but I’m kinda poor. After that I stopped at Taco Bell. They were out of chalupas so I got a Doritos Locos Supreme Tacos Value Meal with a Mountain Dew Baja Blast.
I don’t believe I had never tried Gin before, if I had I forgotten by now. I was intrigued by the promise of Juniper and Citrus. What the fuck is Juniper? Turns out it is like a pine tree. Why would British people in the 1700s riot over liquid trees? Surely trees must taste good, England is well known for having good taste in food and beverage. I had to know more. The anticipation was building.
I opened the bottle, and was greeted by an intriguing aroma. Christmas Tree, and nail polish remover. I poured some into a metal cup I had because I couldn’t find a fancy glass, added some ice cubes, and I took a swig… Then I realized I can’t beat around the bush anymore. I don’t know how people go on the tv and or the internet and tell lies about base spirits being anything other than toxic waste. Shits nasty on it’s own. Stuff tastes like floor cleaner. The vile taste of rubbing alcohol soon gave way to hints of licorish, orange rind, and car air freshener. The flavors call to mind a chilling holiday scene, Victorian London, Tiny Tim at the hospital, his leg freshly amputated. Watering that shit down with soda water and fresh squeezed lime juice made it more palatable, but still not ideal. I mean it’s like okay at that point I guess. What made it truly edible was mixing it with my half drank cup of Baha Blast, and like heaping helping of angostura bitters and a little orange blossom water.
I will say however, of all the base spirits I’ve tried, gin was not the worst, but at the same time it’s also kinda cheating in a way since gin is like a vodka tea from what I understand. My point being it’s already got shit added to it to begin with so it starts out with an advantage. Anyways, alcohol is gross on its own, don’t drink it, unless you want to I guess, whatever.
I’m gunna go watch a shitty Italian movie and maybe paint some Orks.

going back to ur castle kids au post made me think a little more abt how jealous hunter would get of gus's friendship with willow and how he might make excuses to follow gus to join the flyer derby team at school esp after hearing willow's team captain.
so instead of huntlow finding comradery with one another, they are now so completely competative with one another.
"oh captain wants us to do 30 laps? that's baby scout training. i can do 100 and not break a sweat"
"ok caleb! you want to just warm up? that's fine! the rest of us will do our laps and then get started on our drills! Have fun! :)"
just getting absolutely in each other's faces sometimes but its never vindictive or mean. i think they might be tactless sometimes but it more like just feeding into the other's intensities like two dogs on opposite sides of a street to see who can bark the loudest and longest.
it really becomes less about gus over time and more about just one-upping each other and riling one another up. i just think its really funny to think about how they obviously respect each other abilities and think about each other all the time but neither of them will ever say anything about it because hunter's too proud to admit it, and willow knows if she ever brought it up, her prev crush of the gg will come up and that can never EVER be mentioned in front of him.
like hunter's huffing and puffing that willow's so good at talking to the team constuctively and he "complains" how clearly she's so thoughtful, and wise, and strong, and really intuitive as a leader but he's the golden guard so he's clearly got more tools under his belt as a leader and he could take the time to show her some pointers ha ha ha
or willow's grumbling about how hunters always so honest about giving compliments to the team and he never fails to execute the play perfectly and he's such a good flyer, its so nice to have someone so clearly passionate about flyer derby because his cute gaptooth shows every time he smiles at the team, but she's clearly got more background in flyer derby and he's "just a bit cocky for her taste" (note: never bothered her b4 when he was just the gg)
i just really love the idea of huntlow rivalry like recognition of the self through the other (mortifying so now i'm racing you to the cafeteria to grab the last appleblood juice for gus) and mutually becoming a little obsessed with each other.
I am FUELED by the idea of Castle Kids AU huntlow rivalry. Like there are a lot of lovely reasons for Willow to strive to become the toughest strongest version of herself (to protect her friends and whatnot.) But there's something very chaotic and funny about her being partly motivated by pure spite. Gotta knock this cocky bitch off his high horse. (Griffin? Staff?? Whatever, she's gonna knock his ass off something or die trying.)
I love to think of Willow being involved in an antagonistic dynamic that doesn't make her feel small, but rather it just encourages her to hype herself up in order to prove him wrong. Because she already found him a bit snobby to begin with so has wanted to show him up for quite some time. She is mortified by the fact that she originally had a little crush on him (before she was made aware of what a chilly jerk he was.) so now she makes a point to stubbornly disagree with everything he says, just to prove to herself that there's not even an ember of that flame left. Of course she's awesome. Because the Golden Guard doesn't believe so, and he's never had a halfway decent opinion on anything in his life. Fuck that guy. Plus he's not even that cute.
Whether the two of them like it or not, in any universe, they're kinda destined to have this spark of mutual understanding very early on. (Like how they were having full out conversations with their eyes in ASIAS after knowing eachother for a day.) But it's like. On a subconscious level. They don't realize that they're enjoying this little rivalry even though they'll insist they don't care for each other and yet it never even occurs to them to try to cut the other deep with a remark that would actually hurt. They both understand feeling worthless too intimately to inflict it on anyone else. However there is no harm in getting a little competitive when the person you can't stand has this annoyingly smug look on their annoyingly pretty face that you're just itching to wipe clean.
I think when this whole feud over Gus started off, Hunter didn't even see Willow that often, not that he was going out of his way to do so. Willow wasn't in the castle very much. The Emperor's Coven doesn't exactly supply extra rooms for friends and family. (An exception was made for Gus as Perry was a single dad so Gus had nowhere else to go.) Usually Willow stays at home with Harvey. But she'll show up at the castle a few days a week to visit Gilbert when he has a free moment from his duties and she'll hang around until the evening when Harvey picks her up. Occasionally she'll stay the night.
Gilbert's room happens to be directly across from Hunter's. So when Willow does stick around, she has the misfortune of being Hunter's neighbour. (💘😡)
Usually when Gilbert is busy, Willow will hang around with Gus. Hunter gets very annoyed that he's usually unavailable to butt in between them and establish his friendship because he's carrying out Golden Guard duties.
I think Willow's crush was still kinda there when she first showed up, because she never really got the chance to interact with him, and she was way too shy to approach him herself. However it was immediately stamped out when he found her wandering the castle hallways one day.
"Oh. It's you." He had said, his expression hidden beneath that mask. Willow swore she picked up a hint of distaste in his tone but she wasn't going to dwell on that.
"It's me! Hi!" She had answered hurriedly, a little flustered that he apparently knew who she was. "I've got a name too. It's-"
"Everyone has names." Interrupted the Golden Guard, confusingly snippy. "Are you lost? Should I return you to your father?"
Some of the charm Willow had always heard in his voice drained away.
She didn't like the insinuation that she had to be shepherded around like a child.
"I'm just exploring."
"This castle is not the place for that."
That was a lie. Willow had heard all about Gus venturing around every nook and cranny of this old place. And she knew for a fact that the Golden Guard sometimes tagged along.
"But I guess your school still hasn't taught the lesson about respecting the Emperor's home."
Oh. Bitch.
"Are you..." Willow began uncertainly, gobsmacked by the audacity. "Are you seriously making fun of me for being in school?"
The Golden Guard shrugged jauntily, before polishing his gloves knuckles against his uniform. "When I was your age, I was already serving the Emperor." He declared, the words dripping with pride.
"When you were my age?!" Willow spluttered, incredulous. "You mean last year?!"
"It's a significant amount of time!"
"It really isn't."
He had gotten huffy then and strode away, his ridiculous cloak dramatically flapping as he departed.
Alright. Willow had been made insecure before but she just simply couldn't summon that emotion this time. Not with this guy. Because, frankly put, he was fucking stupid. She was fourteen, where the fuck else should she be but at school?
It became more obvious to her over time that he didn't turn up his nose at her specifically, but the whole world. He was just so much better than everyone, wasn't he? He was so obnoxious, just his presence alone made Willow livid. He wasn't like Boscha or Amity (sometimes), as he wasn't really mean about it but....Titan, she could feel self importance radiating off him.
If nobody was gonna show him up, then she supposed she would just have to do it herself. His smugness was maddening.
I like to imagine that Willow does not see Hunter's face until they're really down bad in the throes of this flyer derby antagonism. He'll ditch the uniform and the cloak during practise but the mask is always there. It's a barrier Hunter establishes between the two, to convince himself that she's nothing but a civilian. He only goes maskless around higher ups of the Emperor's Coven, the occasional scout and those close to his heart (Gus) and Willow is none of these things. She's not important to him.
She is not important to him.
And maybe the mask makes him feel more confident. Which is really useful during his interactions with Willow. It's freeing to know she can't see his expression.
Plus she's really pretty (an objective observation! Hes not blind for Titan's sake.) while he's....not. So he'd prefer to leave his appearance anonymous for now.
They also don't do first names. Obviously Willow has known Hunter's name since before she met him cuz Gus talks about him nonstop, but she never refers to him as anything but "Golden Guard." Or sometimes just "Guard" if she's flirting antagonising him.
When they first met, Willow was referred to as nothing but "You" or "Her" or occasionally "Park's daughter" when she wasn't around. It bothered her. She liked to be called something.
So, after begrudgingly allowing him to join her derby team, (he was a good flyer and she hated it.) she made one thing perfectly clear.
Willow strode up to Hunter with a rolled up jersey and shoved against his chest so forcefully he nearly topped over.
"I know you might be used to taking the lead, Guard." She said. "But this is my team. You are my player and I am your captain."
"Captain." He had tested the word on his tongue. To Viney and Skara, it may have sounded pleasantly cheerful but Willow knew better. As this was a boy without a face, she had to pay special attention to the subtle lift and fall of his voice. She believed herself somewhat fluent in reading his signals by now.
He was humoring her and thinking himself so very decent for doing so. He was baiting her and she wasn't going to tolerate it. That one word expressed a challenge.
Why don't you show me what you got then?
Willow had every intention of doing so. The Golden Guard was going to do what she told him to do. And with the Titan as her witness, by the end of the week, she'd have him asking "how high?" if she ordered him to jump.
At first, Hunter only called her Captain sparsely. Like when she had gotten all up in his face, or when he was teasing her or being so Hunterishly annoying. "Captain" had become something he used to get under her skin. It made her bristle with irritation.
He was always sending her some kind of message when he used it. But as time went on and it became a far more frequent nickname, Willow started to lose her grip on what those messages meant.
Sometimes when he said it, his voice was strangely soft. Sometimes it was loud and enthusiastic. And sometimes it was so completely neutral that it made Willow feel funny. He was not using that term to antagonise her. But rather...it seemed like "Captain" was simply the nickname he had decided suited her.
She would never tell anyone just how much she liked it. But she often wondered when he had chosen to stop using the name as ammo. Or....the shift had been so gradual...had he even realized....?
But yeah. When Hunter came strutting up to join her team, Willow anticipated that he would be difficult. She had geared herself up for somebody who would challenge her authority at every corner. And she was prepared to fight fang and nail to keep him in his place.
So she was very surprised to find that....he didn't actually do that? Sure he made a point to show off and boast about how easy Willow's team warm up exercises were. ("It's my Coven Training. But I guess you wouldn't be familiar with those kind of brutal drills, huh Captain?") But when Willow gives him orders, he follows them. And then he proceeds to blow her away by doing what he's told expertly. And he has the audacity to do a cocky little gesture at her while doing so.
He's perfect. She can't stand him.
Willow does everything within her power to outdo him. Which results in her pushing herself during practise until her bones ache and she smells awful.
Something Willow doesn't take the time to realize is that Hunter is trying just as hard, if not harder to outdo her.
It straight up isn't about Gus anymore. The issue with Gus was like the training wheels on the bicycle of their rivalry. It wouldn't have been able to get moving without them but at some point the training wheels have been removed and they haven't noticed yet because the bike is still rolling.
Like. Seriously. Are you guys really arguing over who's gonna give Gus a piggyback home for Gus's sake or is it because you both wanna show off how strong you are to the other?
Gus is aware of this and quite frankly, he doesn't give a fuck about the reason. He just wants the piggy back.
It's so funny to think about how Hunter was originally miffed that Willow was taking away all of Gus's attention. But at this stage, Hunter and Gus will be having a sleepover and Hunter will spend all their quality time ranting about his feud with Willow.
"Dude you realize that you're like....obsessed with her?" Gus interrupts.
Hunter vehemently denies this.
Meanwhile Willow has been spending the night at the castle a lot more frequently lately. Who knows why this is.
Probably not because when the three of them return home from practise, Gus splits for his room at least 20 doors down, so there's a whole hallway walk where it's just her and Hunter.
They never really spend any time alone. Why would they? Not like either of them want to. But they have no option in this case. But she supposes it's....tolerable. They're both too tired to be antagonistic so they just....talk.
On one occasion, as Willow reaches her room and her hand rests upon the handle, she swallows and says something she's never said to him.
"Goodnight, Guard."
She can't see his reaction. But he freezes where he stands, his grip on his own door handle tightening. He doesn't dare look back at her.
"Night, Captain."
A jolt of nerves strikes down both of their systems as they turn in for the night without another word.
Something is beginning to change. But they cannot put their finger on what.
All they know is that person in the room across from theirs makes them behave like a fool.
#sorry if this is all over the place#this ask was so good that i was like ''oh god can i even answer this right?'' and just ended up word vomiting#idk if its even fun to read

for as snobby and condescending as they tended to act towards gus, pretty princesses like danielle sure couldn't seem to stay away from him. they'd exchange insults and low-blows back and forth, get each other all worked up, and she'd always end up right back in the same spot every time. either rolling in the sheets, pressed up against a wall, or bent over whatever surface was nearest. "right, of course..." a hand ran over his mouth as he let out a mirthless chuckle, incredulous though this is exactly what he should've expected. "so the next time you text me a picture of your tits at two in the morning, what d'you want me to do? block your number?" because, as hard as she tried to deny it, sooner or later she'd come crawling back, too hooked on his rugged charm to leave him alone. while he may not have known how to treat a woman right romantically, he sure knew how to get them off.
The picture was too recent for her to forget. Harsh pulls at his hair whilst his tongue licked dirtily at her center, desperate sweet nothings tumbling out of her mouth without a second thought. She should’ve known he would hesitate to bring it up as soon as they saw each other again, the fucking asshole. “I’ll let you in on a little secret,” Danielle offered, as petulant as always. “People say a lot of things when they’re getting fucked, that doesn’t mean they actually believe it.” She had meant it, though. When she moaned about how good he made her feel, how great he was. But she wasn’t about to lose this fight. “Hope I’m not breaking your heart, Gus. But I’m sure you’ll get over it.”
