The "tiktok ban" should scare you and here's why.
Rant made by an autistic, history-loving, chronically online American tiktok cosplayer. Please let me know if I've gotten anything wrong and I will edit the post.
Reblog to spread awareness!
This is not just about Tiktok, and it's not about national security. The Tiktok ban is wrapped up in the "Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act" which has the ability to ban any foreign website or app that the United States government sees as a threat to their "democracy." Not only that, but if the gov't didn't want China to gather data, then they would ban things like Shein and Temu (the latter which they advertised during the Super Bowl), which collect similar data that Tiktok does. If they wanted to prevent our data being stolen in general, they would ban companies like Meta, which monetarily supports the Tiktok ban and had to change their name because "Facebook" was associated with the largest data leak in history.
The documentations of the Tiktok court interrogations prove how incompetent our government is. Repeatedly asking the TikTok CEO Mr. Chew if he's Chinese while he repeatedly assures them he's Singaporean. The officials being concerned that they can't find Singapore on a map. The officials then being confused why the app would be able to have access to their wifi because it needs wifi to load.
The possibility of the US buying Tiktok exposes a greater issue in America: monopolies. The Sherman Antitrust Act was passed in 1890 that restricted the activities of large companies known as monopolies, which started out as small companies and would either buy other companies or buy the factories which produced all their materials. This eliminated competition in the market and gave the monopolies almost full control of quality and prices of items, and it was considered very anti-American at the time. Since the US already has multiple major social medias, including Facebook (Meta), Instagram (Meta), Threads (Meta), X (formerly Twitter), Snapchat, and Reddit, adding Tiktok would mean that nobody could compete with the US in the social media market. This makes them a monopoly, and it's incredibly dangerous.
Banning Tiktok breaks several American trademarks. A) the Republicans banning Tiktok are very concerned about their second amendment right to own guns, but they seem to not care about the first amendment right to freedom of speech and press, which Tiktok delivers. Of course there are app guidelines, but for the most part you have fairly uncensored political and ethical commentary like no other social media. B) the only other countries that have banned Tiktok are either heavily demonized by America or are direct targets for American propaganda (ex. China), which really doesn't make the ban look good. C) banning a social media for the purpose of censorship is a trademark of communism, which Americans are INCREDIBLY wary of.
Your country may follow in suit. Because of America's influence as a global superpower and an ally to many other major powers, America banning Tiktok would likely lead to a domino effect in other countries.
The rich get richer. There is a concept called social darwinism, in which it is the rich's beliefs that the poor must fend for themselves without the help of the government in order to make a living - "survival of the fittest." Tiktok contributed around $14.7 billion USD in 2023 and $24.2 billion in 2024, and it supports around 224,000 jobs [source]. The actual Tiktok website says in 2023, they contributed $15 billion USD in revenue and supported 7 million US businesses [source]. Without these jobs, there could be in increase in homelessness, debt, and sickness due to withdrawals (if you're incredibly addicted to Tiktok) and lack of quick dopamine hits (due to the rapidfire nature of the algorithm).
Remember that the president is not your friend !! Many of the political figures rallying to support Tiktok right now, such as President Biden, initially voted for the ban. President Biden is likely supporting now so that Trump won't get credit for it, and future President Trump is likely doing it for brownie points among younger generations.
The Xiaohongshu migration exposed the American government and its lies. The stories from American 'Tiktok refugees' about the questions from native Chinese on the Xiaohongshu / Rednote / Redbook app (considered the Chinese mixed of Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook) posed a lot of conspiracies and realizations about the American government. The Chinese actually own their homes, they have lower food prices than we do, and they have a slim homelessness rate. Whether this is true or not, it has greatly influenced how we see ourselves in the grand scheme of the American oligarchy, and that is not something that can be suppressed with an app being banned.
Tiktok is not totally Chinese! The CEO is Singaporean, as I've already stated, and there are multiple headquarters in the US, with the main one being in Los Angeles.
In conclusion...
Whether Tiktok is banned or not, whether permanently or not, no matter who saves it or rallies against it, remember that it is harder to scare and control someone when they are in a group. And if you think this was interesting, I'd love it if you could reblog to show some support and inform your friends as well. <3
THIS IS NOT RIGHT VS LEFTāļøIT'S UP VS DOWNāļø

When I talk about how āsex workā (digital prostitution) has been normalized, people like to think I mean de-stigmatized. And like, I think the stigma around being a woman who does prostitution should be done away with; women shouldnāt live with that shame (the men who pay for it should). But Iām not talking about stigma. De-stigmatizing would be saying, āThese people shouldnāt be treated like theyāre dirty or subhuman.ā It wouldnāt be saying that prostitution is okay, but that the women who are in prostitution shouldnāt be shamed for it.
I take an issue with normalization. Which is treating prostitution as if it is a normal thing. It isnāt. Rather, it shouldnāt be normalized at all. Because in leftist (and liberal) spaces, it has been normalized quite a bit.
There is no reason EVERYONE in my friend group has had some sort of Only*Fans or its equivalent, and the only people who havenāt had one? Yeah, me and my friend who is Christian and reserved about sex (and I only bring that up because if she wasnāt so openly Christian and reserved about sex, I know she would experience a lot more push to resort to āsex workā than she does now, including by our friends).
For example, my one friend openly talks about how sheās bringing her O*F back and advertises it on her snapchat. She talks about it in front of her family, including her mom and sisters (in high school). Another friend talks about her āPatreonā that sheād advertise on the nsfw side of twitter. Another talks about how she has an O*F in passing whenever the topic comes up. They joke about how āIām nextā to make one. I never shame them, and I donāt talk about my feelings towards it because I donāt want them to feel as though I am judging them; Iām not.
I just donāt think this should be normal. I donāt think it should be seen as just another job. My friend group? Weāre all poor. We live in a poor area. One is in section 8 housing. Three of us work for tips. Poor women are exploited. And it is seen as normal.

What is the fediverse?
The fediverse is as if you took X, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook and made them all interoperable so you could post anything from anywhere, and all your followers would be guaranteed to see it. And if you wanted to leave one platform for another, you could bring all your content, all your followers, all your everything with you.
i've reached a point in my life where i simply am not interested in posting on websites where any ol' dickhead could buy it and turn it into a crypto advertising platform if they feel like it. i'm tired. i'm not doing this shit again on another website that promises this time will be different. let me self-host or fuck off. tumblr is grandfathered in because i'll be here until matt kills it for good, but unpretty.space will be my only other social media if i can help it. i might change what software i'm running but the url should stay the same.
#original#twitter used to have rss feeds#facebook chat used to use xmpp#it used to be normal to have options#i'm still [email protected] on mastodon but i already moved all my follows over#i didn't port followers because it feels weird to me to do that

can you do chris x influencer gf hcs pls š¤

ā chris with an influencer girlfriend hcs. āø° š„ Ķ
warnings: fluff, not proofread.
a/n: this is so short My bad. ā¹ļø

ā both your fanbases suspected something was going on between you two because you started following each other a while back, and honestly you were soft launching him.
ā the soft launch included pictures of your date nights, faceless couple pictures, etc.
ā one time you posted a picture to your instagram story without realizing you were wearing fresh love sweatpants and your fans went crazy.
ā despite that incident, you both waited until you were ready, and you made one of those couple videos on your channels. āintroducing my gf/bf!ā it was soo cute & most people in the comments were gushing about how cute you both are.
ā when your relationship first started, you both had to sit down and talk about how public you wanted to be just to clear the air about what you were willing to and werenāt willing to post.
ā you two have a joint youtube channel where you do vlogs about your life, dates and travels together.
ā his personal channel is much more active because he posts with you a lot. heāll post challenges, random vlogsā at some point you started a prank war on your channel which people loved.
ā heās your personal photographer. he sucked at taking pictures at first but you taught him how and now he takes all your pictures.
ā sometimes you donāt even have to ask him for pictures because heās so willing to take them. he loves doing it + (gets hella cocky because he gets to comment āI TOOK THESEā).
ā when you have to go to a public event, heāll call you to color coordinate outfits LMFAOO he loves matching with you, especially if it means showing you off in public.
ā you two do the cutest trends together. you posted a tiktok with him doing a voiceover of your makeup which went absolutely viral because he was clueless.
ā the amount of fanpages people have made for you are actually insane omg ??
ā chris watches the edits people make of you, itās his favorite pastime. he acts like he never sees edits but this man stalks fanpages, watches edits, and even showed you fanfiction of you two once.
ā you were invited onto the cut the camera podcast one day and people went absolutely feral over it. it was insane. you and chris were lowkey flirting the whole time and just sharing stories about your relationship.
ā literally your number one supporter. he loves you immensely so every project youāre a part of, heās definitely a fan of. you could be selling grass and this man will advertise it on his stories like heās getting paid.
ā your comments are filled with him just hyping you up. heās your #1 hype man. (āMINEā āi took these btwā).
ā he shows you off everywhere. youāre all over his instagram. he has a highlight for you specifically & itās the cutest thing ever :(.
ā he spoils you so badly. anything you want, heās getting it for you. necklaces, rings, perfumes, etc. all yours.
ā you two steal each otherās clothes and people always end up noticing because of videos, tiktoks and pictures & they think it's adorable.
ā this man will deadass steal your phone and post pictures on your social media. heāll post stories on instagram, snapchat, literally anywhere š. full on hacks your accounts.
ā youāre that internet couple. literally everywhere. the all time favorite internet couple.

Another Approach To Online Sugaring
Recently I took a break from dating. The dating apps can get exhausting and sometimes youāre just not in a place where you have the physical/emotional energy to get dressed up and go out. I didnāt want the money to stop, so I decided to start camming again but only for online sugar dating(OSD)/girlfriend experience (GFE). Itās been such a success I decided to make a post about it.
When I reactivated my no face cam accounts, I started casually talking to users in my chat rooms. There were a good share of users who just want to chat. If you have an outgoing personality, this is really easy and comes natural. We would talk about all sorts of things from what they do for work/fun, casual interests, kinks. Iād tell them stories, my POVs on pop culture topics, fantasies, made up stuff. At this point I noticed specific users were tipping in the general chat. I focused on those users and made sure to show them the most attention and they continued to tip. Theyād often initiate a private session (more $ per min) and weād continue chatting.
If youāre consistent with signing in at least 1-2x a week, itās easy to find someone who adores you. I created a Snapchat (SC) profile and advertised it on my cam site as a way for users to connect with me 1:1. Set it up so they have to pay to get the username. Using SC, I posted no face pics with a link to my wishlist/cashapp and sparingly answered messages (mostly messages inquiring about pricing/services never free endless chatting). Later I created a price menu for services offered and shared that from time to time on my story. Once a relationship is established, itās super easy to straight up ask for money. Since they met you on a paid cam site they already know whatās up so donāt let anyone pretend to be naive or use your time for free.
Overall this has been a flexible way to earn money that is relatively easy and low maintenance. Most of these clients are lonely and desperate for female attention so making each feel special is the key.
Things to Note/Logistics
I personally donāt show my face by having the cam positioned from the neck down. But other no face cam girls have talked about using full or half face masks to conceal their identity. Given the nature of āprofessionalismā in our fields I can understand a lot of us wanting to preserve our identities. But do what youāre comfy with! Iād suggest no nudity in free chat otherwise users will be less likely to pay for private.
Each cam site is different and pays differently. Most let you adjust your price settings as you like. I researched the sites with the most consistent/quickest payout schedule and reputation by searching Reddit posts and cam girl forums. I picked my favorite sites shared below.
To maximize earnings, I stream multiple sites at a time by opening tabs. Some use OBS software but I havenāt had the time to figure out how to incorporate that yet.
I changed the settings to allow only users with money to participate in chat. This helps reduce hecklers and incels looking for a free show.
Sites have varying popularity during different times/day. Keep that in mind when starting out so that you can develop a schedule. Weāre busy professionals irl so making sure to cam on days/nights that have the most earning potential saves a lot of time.
Different clients have different needs so itās important to be flexible and only take on clients youād be comfortable with. I have clients that want me to be bossy and mean while others want a more traditional GFE where theyāre the caretaker (think MTS ādaddy am I your babyā type of thing lol).
Tips to Earn More
Share your wishlist in your bio across platforms. I like to use throne.
Create a links page and share to let your big spenders get notified when youāre online. I use beacons
I use sextpanther to supplement on weeks that are too busy to cam. I love the convenience of texting and it yields good money.
If you want to incorporate toys in your private shows when youāre starting out, use Aliexpress to order cheap toys. Eventually when you gain a consistent following, I suggest making the guys pay for anything theyād like to see you use and of course non sexual gifts for you too!
Keep a list/diary of users to keep track across platforms. Make note of their interests/kinks/imp things theyāve shared so you can refer to it during sessions.
Successful Cam Sites: CB CS
Keep working towards your goals!šā¤ļøāØ

i loathe this new form of advertisement which is very blatantly trying to pretend/conflate itself with a tiktok so youve just got this silent blonde woman pointing at snapchat text popups and making facial expressions about a dating app

* I realize a poll is probably the worst possible way to get this information, especially considering my metrics of how canon the examples I listed may be different from someone elseās. this is just for fun. by āepiloguesā I am including the snapchat credits, meat and candy epilogues, and homestuck^2 beyond canon. if your idea of how canon these three are differs, vote according to how you view the meat + candy epilogues
NOTE: ALL THE METRICS I USED ARE MEANT TO BE SOMETHING YOU CONSIDER AS CANON TO HOMESTUCK AS THE EPILOGUES. NOT LITERALLY WHAT THE EPILOGUES ARE.
**as canon to homestuck as someone mentioning homestuck inspired their work. a completely separate work from homestuck that pays some lip service to it
***a non-official fanfiction that has some elements of homestuck, but otherwise rejects many concepts, and is advertised as such. think a humanstuck au, or a mspfa of someoneās ocs playing sburb
****official homestuck media. not 1 to 1 reflective of the source material, but also isnāt trying to be. canon in the āitās possible this happenedā way but not necessarily canon in the āundisputed fact of what actually happenedā way
*****something that has canonically happened in the source material, but shouldnāt really be judged as something the characters actually did. (specifically canon in the way of, for example, what dave written in homosuck did NOT what caliborn writing homosuck did)
******supplemental, official material that fills in gaps that the comic left. generally can be considered canon, with some things deviating from the main webcomic

Traps
So.... I need to vent, again.
This time about seemingly innocuous diet saboteurs.
For one thing- fucking Snapchat.
I have noticed that when I look at any of the snap subscription things (mainly gym/fitness related stuff) they fucking shove fast food ads in there.... and somehow it never seems to get to the title 'story' no matter how long you watch.
For Cripes sakes. One of the reasons I don't use that entertainment anymore is because of those fucking ads. So you want views? Match your fucking ads to what I need, like fucking Amazon does.
Know your audience, I absolutely don't want to see that shit. How about you show me some protein powder ads? As much as I despise Built bars, I would rather have ads for that than some bull shit food that NEVER tastes as good as the advertising looks. Seriously, FUCK OFF.
Another diet sabotage thing is when someone knows you are on a weight loss &/or health journey and they send you snaps or reels that reference fast food, mukbangs, or . Why would someone choose to inject that into your space? Do I really look like I am suffering from a lack of McDonald's? Cake memes? You think I don't know where the fucking cake lives? Come OOOOOON.
Please just don't. This is hard enough and this shit is fucking everywhere. It is inescapable in real life, I shouldn't need to be dodging bullshit from my friends and family.
What else?
Oh, if I say I have to go to so and so store for my favorite ice cream, Artic Zero, and you mention Dairy Queen, Culver's or Cold Stone.... seriously, fuck off. š
What is the difference? One is 1200 calories per serving (total guess, the bigger ones could be more) and has been known to cause me binges. Like, weeks long binges where I struggle to control what I consume, suffer blood sugar problems and literally spiral down into a vat of self hate and depreciation. One is 150 calories for a whole fucking pint, has protein and satisfies my craving. Pretty sure *I* know which one I want and what will make me feel better overall. Also- you think I don't know how amazing Cold Stone or Ben & Jerry's is?
I was over 300 pounds, as a relatively short woman.
I know where the fucking ice cream lives. š
Getting healthier can be really fucking hard. Don't make it harder on your people, we are already goddamn struggling daily and we are not being confronted by your big Mac snaps.
Fuckers.

quick ramble post about nothing anyone really cares about but me!
so a straight white dude i know irl posted on his snapchat story that buying Taylor Swift on vinyl is so ridiculous and that itās like eating raw chicken blah blah blah. why do you care so bad about something that majority women consume? donāt buy it. no oneās making you. but of course itās going to be advertised at record storesā¦ she sells lots of them lol. thatās quite honestly the WORST part for me about being a vinyl collector is that i buy music that is pop and feminine and not what the record store bros want you to buy. idk if this actually makes any sense to anyone else. but i started collecting vinyl back when i was 13 and it wasnāt anything other than ātrashā i was clearing for family members and friends of family friends. iād stop at every flea market and junk shop, sweating in attic rooms with no ac flipping through thousands of Englebert Humperdinck records to find one or two Steely Dan and Gordon Lightfoot LPs. yet some asshole like that will see me with Midnights or folklore and write me off as not a āseriousā music listener. sometimes i just want to respond to people like that and be like letās go cmon toe to toe. because to me, even if i didnāt have a big and expansive collection, who are you to judge someoneās āseriousnessā over a singular artist. at the end of the day i guess what im trying to say is 1. let people enjoy things and 2. if someone tells you youāre not listening to or buying records correctly i will take my vintage victrola and smash it on their head.

The Future of Social Media
The Future of Social Media: Trends and Innovations Shaping the Digital Landscape
Social media has transformed how we communicate, shop, and consume information. With over 5 billion social media users globally, platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn have become integral to our daily lives. But as technology evolves, social media is poised for even more significant changes. Letās explore the future of social media, the key trends shaping its growth, and what businesses and users can expect in the coming years.
1. Rise of AI and Automation
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is set to revolutionize social media by personalizing user experiences and automating content creation. ā
AI-Driven Content: Platforms will use AI to create and suggest highly relevant content based on user behavior. ā
Chatbots and Customer Service: AI-powered chatbots will provide instant responses and customer support. ā
Enhanced Algorithm Efficiency: AI will refine algorithms to boost content visibility and engagement.
š Example: TikTokās AI-based algorithm curates content precisely to user preferences, keeping users engaged for longer periods.
2. Growth of Short-Form Video Content
Short-form videos have become the preferred content format, thanks to platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. ā
Higher Engagement: Short videos have higher engagement rates due to their fast-paced and interactive nature. ā
Monetization Opportunities: Platforms are introducing more ways for creators to earn through video content. ā
Live Streaming: Live videos drive real-time engagement and foster a stronger connection with audiences.
š Example: Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts have gained massive traction, encouraging brands to shift to short-form content.
3. Expansion of Social Commerce
Social media is no longer just for networkingāitās becoming a powerful e-commerce platform. ā
Shoppable Posts: Platforms like Instagram and Pinterest allow users to buy products directly from posts. ā
Influencer Marketing: Brands are investing heavily in influencer partnerships to drive sales. ā
Livestream Shopping: Real-time product demonstrations and Q&A sessions boost consumer trust and conversions.
š Example: TikTok Shop and Instagram Checkout make it easy for users to purchase without leaving the app.
4. Rise of Decentralized Platforms
Concerns about data privacy and platform control have fueled the rise of decentralized social media. ā
Blockchain Integration: Platforms using blockchain technology will offer greater transparency and user control. ā
User-Owned Content: Decentralized networks will give users more control over their data and content. ā
Reduced Censorship: Decentralization reduces the influence of large corporations on content moderation.
š Example: Platforms like Mastodon and Bluesky are gaining attention for their decentralized, user-driven models.
5. Influence of Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR & AR)
The Metaverse is driving the integration of VR and AR into social media experiences. ā
Virtual Meetups: Users will engage in virtual hangouts and events using avatars. ā
AR Filters and Lenses: Enhanced AR features will create more immersive and interactive content. ā
Virtual Stores: Brands will launch virtual showrooms where users can explore products in 3D.
š Example: Snapchatās AR lenses and Metaās Horizon Worlds are early examples of this shift.
6. Increasing Role of Personalization
Social media will become more tailored to individual usersā preferences and behaviors. ā
Custom Feeds: Platforms will offer more control over what content users see. ā
Dynamic Ads: Advertisers will target users with highly personalized and relevant ads. ā
User-Curated Content: Users will have more options to customize and control their content experience.
š Example: Netflix and Spotify have already set the standard for content personalizationāsocial media is next.
7. Focus on Data Privacy and User Security
As privacy concerns grow, platforms will need to strengthen user data protection. ā
End-to-End Encryption: Private messages and data will be encrypted to protect user privacy. ā
Minimal Data Collection: Platforms will reduce data tracking to build user trust. ā
User Consent: Users will have more control over how their data is shared and used.
š Example: Appleās privacy updates and Googleās cookie phase-out reflect this shift toward stronger data protection.

I don't mind it when technology is slow. I don't need my gallery to update itself every second or my snapchat to know my mood. I MIND when they laud themselves as the fastest bestest most up-to-date version and then they DO NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED. You said you were the most swift UI yet so fucking show it I will overload your space until you fucking perform or die you clown of a code
#alda rambling#I YET REALLY MAD AT TECHNOLOGY NOT FOR BEINGBAD BUT FOR PROMISING TO BE THE BEST WHEN IT'S LIKE NO. 19 AT BEST#Increasingly I am angry at false promises I may commit a crime soon

you know what to be clear i've always hated tiktok before anyone else, since before it was cool to hate it, [just like i hated snapchat first, hated facebook first...] but i feel like some people are really missing the point that you should be mad at like, the company itself for creating a culture of censorship, not random users trying not to get their posts flagged. i don't know how to tell you this but the 17 year old from wisconsin is not why the modern internet is so heavily calibrated to be as whitewashed and advertiser-friendly as possible
