chengxian’s orpheus and eurydice motifs are going to slowly drive me to the brink of insanity but i’m cool with it

#chengxian #jc coming to find wwx at the burial mounds is orpheus-coded but he's not the most orpheus-coded out of the two #it's obviously wwx's who's a musician and who's admired for his many talents #he's also the one who defies death the most out of the two. wwx doesn't accept death (unless it's his own) whereas jc is always put in the #position of having to. accept it. and yet not move on.#eurydice has the whole snake motif going on since she got bitten by one #(so that's jc and zidian obvs)#that whole scene reads as 'i'm coming to pull you out of the underworld and bring you back to life (home)'#but then the answer is 'actually i've made a home out of death' and #AND the fact that wwx still tries to carve yunmeng into the soil of that home #to make lotus grow!! in this weird underworld situation!!#and the fact that when jc appears in the scene wwx comes up to him and tries to drag him by the hand #further into the burial mounds!! roles reversed!!#anyways bark bark bite bite i am indeed on the brink of insanity #i just live for motifs and symbols. actually.

Revisited my alt design for Hancock! 🐍👑

Some design notes:

More snake motif through accessories.

Greek inspired fashion given origin.

Appearance is more royal.

Has wavy hair to match sisters, but more tamed in comparison.

Wears makeup and nail polish for extra beauty.

Fur of slayed beast to showcase strength and pride.

More gold and purple accents for regal vibe.

Has a muscular built, but hard to tell with clothing. Def has a six pack.

This might be a dumb question, but I was wondering if you had any thoughts about the red snake at Dean’s feet when he’s passed out in Ouroboros?

Not a dumb question, and I’ll gladly have some thoughts about that!

I think Felix the snake takes on multiple meanings in the next few episodes but I like simplicity for this scene: "snake’s gonna get ‘im."

The snake is a visual stand-in for the incoming threat of AU Michael.

Michael has been patient, waiting for Dean to falter. Waiting for the right moment to strike. In the next scene, Michael gets out and kills almost everyone in the “Garden”/bunker.

This is Dean’s worst fear: losing control at the expense of his loved ones.

DEAN: This is my fault. I let my guard down. This is my fault. 14x14 Ouroborous

Aside:

In this episode, there’s a narrative mate for Cas’s injury, too.

I’ve talked often about how Cas’s worst nightmare is his family sacrificing for him. And his paralysis is another hit at that: Cas’s worst fear is to be powerless and watch his loved ones get hurt on his behalf:

CAS: I love all of you. Just please... please, don’t make my last moments be spent watching you die. Just run. Save yourselves. And I will hold Ramiel off as long as I can. 12x12 Stuck in the Middle (with You)

Ah, yes. Cas, paralyzed as Jack uses his soul up to save him. Yay, more of Cas’s worst nightmares come to life!

Kinda makes you think about the whole theme of Cas’s paralysis, too this season. The Empty deal preys on Cas, keeping him emotionally distant and in “immobile” in very critical ways, and this seems to echo that.

Love motivates Cas tremendously, but it’s being used by the Empty as a weapon... to paralyze him and prevent him from being an active participant in his own happiness.
