storytelling peaked in 2008 with the release of super smash brothers brawl’s supspace emissary bcs let me get this straight. pit just canonically watches all of the nintendo characters get up to shenanigans for entertainment. samus and pikachu become best friends. captain falcon murders a bunch of pikmin. peach, sheik, and fox have tea on the deck of the halberd in the middle of a war zone. all of the ROBs can experience existential dread. sonic the hedgehog saves a nintendo game.
