hi! noticed the ask by the anon about the reactions to rosegarden and i can't help but wonder...

do you think any of them would have some reservations because of the oz in oscar's head thing? i reckon there may be some slight lingering intensity for each member regarding him so there's a chance they could be wary... but more so for ruby and oscar, rather than exclusively ruby

I answered the last ask on the assumption that them becoming canon wouldn't happen until after the war is won and the Oz curse is broken. Simply because I don't think either of them have the time or capacity to tackle that sort of relationship before the main plot is resolved. So in the hypothetical situation that they would get together and it's before the curse is broken, I think there's a chance some of the people around them might be a bit wary. At least Qrow, Tai, and maybe Yang. However, with it being so close to the final fight, it would probably be the least of anyone's concerns at that time. "Seeing as the world might end in three weeks, so long as those two are happy for whatever time we have left, I don't really care if Oz is around for it or not", if you know what I mean?

That being said, I think I am too biased to answer this in a yes-and kind of way. I know you're probably asking in good faith, but in full transparency, I'm pretty jaded by how often this particular topic gets brought up. Since this is not the first time and probably won't be the last, I'm going to take this as an opportunity to share my stance on this idea as a whole.

Ozpin's place within Oscar and RG's stories is one of conflict; which is what all stories revolve around. And it is not, nor has it ever been, a deal breaker for RG's relationship to me. The Ozcarnation curse is an allegory for a few things. The first is simply growing up. RWBY is a coming of age story, and Oscar isn't the only one going through that arc. But this conflict and grief of how he doesn't get to choose the kind of person he wants to be - largely because of the people he's met and things he's experienced - is not unique to him. The curse is just a fantasized and exaggerated version of it.

The next one isn't so much an allegory as it is plainly stated in the text, but it's a story about choice. It's about how even when we are irreversibly changed by things outside our control, we can still choose who we want to be. Even when it's hard, even when the influences are strong, even when it's downright traumatic. Oscar's story is about self discovery and self acceptance; about choice and change. Regardless of if Oz fades into the background, or his curse is broken, or they become a blendy merge of the two of them, Oscar is still going to remain his own person in some way by the end of it. Because this is ultimately a happy story and that is the main driving conflict of his personal arc.

The assumption that Oscar is going to get absorbed or overwritten by Ozpin being such a common take in this fandom never ceases to confuse me because of that. It also confuses me because the show - while it doesn't fully explain the extent of the merge mechanics - has told us that Oz has had families in his previous lives by "learning to live with the souls with which he had been paired".

The other allegory I'll mention - of which I am not the first, nor necessarily the best, to be pointing out (here is a great example from a little while ago) - is one for plurality. Some of the friends I've made in RG spaces have DID and have spoken to me about how they interpret the Ozcar situation; how it's similar or different to their own experiences. Hearing those stories, once again, makes it really hard for me to see Ozpin as any sort of deal-breaking barrier to a rosegarden relationship. This idea that Oscar must be isolated from his friends and constantly scrutinized when showing interest towards any romantic partners because of Oz's presence lacks both imagination and compassion for me. Oscar never asked for this curse, he didn't do anything to deserve it, and to condemn him to a lonely life because of something like that seems really antithetical to the themes of this story and to the characters involved. While some characters within the story might have some doubts about the relationship, at the end of the day it is not up to them on what Ruby and Oscar decide to do for themselves.

Again, this isn't aimed at you, Anon. I just wanted to say my piece on it given how pervasive this topic is. I truly look forward to the day where folks can talk about RG without this being the first thought or argument that everyone jumps to.

From After Salem Maria Pine-Growing up Maria couldn’t help but feel like she was in the shadow of heroes and legends and as a result she grew insecure. Her desire to prove herself “worthy” eventually results in her being injured on a training mission. After that she admits her insecurity to her parents and her team who help her grow past it and see her own self worth. Like her father Maria can use magic. Appearance: 20 years old. 5ft 10in- Brown hair to shoulders Hazel eyes Outfit: Light red top with maroon corset. maroon shorts. Light red tights with green vine design, roses on knees. Moments Together, Part 1

Note: Part of me feels wrong for shipping RoseGarden because Ruby doesn’t seem like the one to portray romantic feelings (that doesn’t mean she’s not capable of those feelings just what I’ve seen so far, she’s a kid who has more important things to do, LIKE SAVING THE WORLD and protecting her friends than to fall in love) but luckily my brain doesn’t give a crap and pretends that it’s all fine.

All in all, I expect Oscar to have a crush on Ruby, whether those feelings are reciprocated, well, that’s not up to me. Besides, I’m more interested in the plot of the show than ships, so this is all harmless fun.

Also I thought Ruby and Oscar were two years apart? So why is it that Ruby is now age 17, and Oscar is 14? I mean maybe his birthday hasn’t happened yet... but whatever.

Anyway just a warning, this has slight RoseGarden, but it’s not really a RoseGarden fic, I just want an excuse to write it. Also, I might be taking another break from tumblr again. :/

And, some of these things will clearly not correlate with the show, as I’m writing this as the episodes are being released.

Summary: While in Atlas, the heroes must face the tension and awkwardness that came as a result of them splitting apart. Secrets are revealed and everyone learns a thing or two about trusting those around them, and most importantly, themselves.

Nora Valkyrie thought she was pretty insightful. Like it was clear Pyrrha (rest her soul) had feelings for Jaune, or that when she met her, Ilia was totally soft for Blake.

So it occurred to her quite early that someone possessed affections for her silver-eyed friend. A certain farm boy. Ever since she had watched Oscar land a punch in Ruby’s face in Mistral, she felt there was something there.

As they moved along in their journey, her suspicions only grew more. Oscar would occasionally glance at Ruby, smile shyly whenever she was around, and was overall, gravitated towards her whenever possible.

After she and Jaune has piloted a stolen airship from Argus, they had landed somewhat safely in Atlas, in a forest secluded from the main city. As soon as they had made it, Weiss became awfully silent, and she would barely speak a word to anyone.

“Hey, Weiss,” Ruby murmured, coming over to her partner, placing her hand on her shoulder. Weiss looked up, her face worried.

“Weiss... I know you’re feeling a bit... overhelmed. But I promise you, none of us are gonna let your dad take you away. You’re not going back. You’re staying with us.”

Weiss gave her team leader a small smile, to which Ruby returned with a large grin. There wasn’t a lot of people like Ruby Rose these daya. Someone who was optimistic and believed in the best of people. At that moment, Weiss shrugged off the dark feeling that something bad was going to happen, took a deep breath, and followed Ruby off the ship. Weiss has wondered how they could just leave a stolen airship in the middle of the woods, but according to Klein and Ironwood, someone would be up to pick it soon after and return it back to Argus, claiming that the thieves who stole it were being “promptly dealt with”.

Weiss has contacted Klein earlier in the flight. Her butler, was of course, happy to hear from her, but worried for her safety. She had assured Klein that she was well and safe and asked about him. Her blood turned to ice when she heard that her mother was around more, and Whitley was becoming more and more like her father each day. Weiss’ heart broke, but she told her friends all was well when they had asked her.

Klein had a safe house for them, somewhere near the city. He reassured them that there would be no danger and they could call him for help if needed. Weiss received the location on her scroll, and downloaded it into Bumblebee, so Yang could drive them all there. Klein was sworn to secrecy of his brief knowledge of the issue at hand. He knew that they had stolen a ship and needed a place to stay so they could break into Atlas Academy.

Atlas was colder than Argus, and everyone was shivering, since none of them had packed winter clothing. Weiss was the only one slightly prepared, yet she was the one who was the most used to the weather.

“Atlas is too cold, isn’t it?” Ren quipped, noting a shivering Nora. His girlfriend wrapped her arms around him for warmth. “I’ll say. When we get to the safe house, it’s time for a change of wardrobe.”

Maria laughed lightly. At first, she seemed annoyed by Nora’s constant laughter and excitement. Now, she was used to it. In fact, she enjoyed it.

Yang turned her head back at the passengers. “Now that Ozpin’s come out to play, Oscar, what’s the game plan?”

The young boy looked down shyly, as everyone’s gazes landed on him. He was getting used to everyone’s wariness of him, but he didn’t really like it. Even Ruby, who believed in him the most, seemed to be keeping her distance from him.

“Uh, well. Oz says we’ll rest up for a few days. He says Qrow will contact Ironwood and set our plans in motion. Our main goal... he says our main goal is to find the Winter Maiden so we can unlock the relic. After that, we’ll be attending a party for Whitley Schnee, in which a some of us will be providing distractions, while the rest of us will be retrieving the relic.”

Weiss rolled her eyes. “Find the Winter Maiden... cause that’ll be easy. Has it occurred to any of you that we’ve never found any of the maidens? Cinder is evil, and dead, and we only found Vernal because of Yang’s mom. And Vernal is also dead.”

Ruby noticed Yang tensing up. Weiss was right. The Huntsmen never had to look for the Maidens... they just kind of appeared when necessary.

Oscar piped up. “Well, Oz says that since the Maidens are some of the few individuals that possess magic, he can feel their auras. So he’ll know when she’s close.”

“So you’re telling me we’re gonna have to basically just wander around until Ozpin’s senses go off?” Qrow questioned. He hadn’t entirely forgiven Ozpin yet. It had taken much convincing for him to even look at Oscar.

Ruby looked over to her uncle, trying to reassure him with her eyes. “Hey Qrow, it’ll be fine. I promise.”

Ruby seemed to be making a lot of promises these days.

As the moved along through the thick snow, the travelers discussed their plans for their days they would spend in the safe house. Qrow quickly called Ironwood to update him on the situation, now that they were closer to an area where there was a signal. Maria planned to train Ruby to use her silver eye power correctly, and Ruby and Oscar made plans to do hand-to-hand combat more. Jaune, Nora and Ren would probably spar occasionally, and maybe check out Atlas’ scene. Weiss wanted to contact her sister, but decided she would go out to buy everyone winter clothing. Blake hastily agreed to join her, in hopes of avoiding Yang’s anger for a while. Yang was silent throughout the ride, though no one could blame her. Blake wanted so badly to talk to her, but realized that would have to wait for another day.

What seemed to be like hours passed. Jaune, Ren and Nora had managed to fall asleep. Weiss was listening intently to Maria read. Blake stared off into space, seemingly disinterested in everything around her. Qrow, surprisingly didn’t have a flask in hand, and was staring at his scroll. That left Ruby talking to Oscar.

“Oscar, you look like a little prince in your new outfit!” Ruby giggled. She still hadn’t gotten over Oscar’s change in wardrobe.

The young boy scowled at the word “little”. “I’m not small, Ruby.”

“Considering I’m one of the shortest people here, ranking about 5’4, and you’re shorter than that, I’d say yeah, you’re pretty little.”

Oscar pouted. “Let’s see who gets the last laugh when I grow taller.”

Ruby’s eyes widened, and she pretended to look intimidated. “Ooh, when Oscar gets taller! I forgot you haven’t gone through puberty yet!”

Oscar was shocked. “I—what? When did you become such a bully?” He leaned over and poked the Huntress in the shoulder. Ruby, amused, waggled her fingers at Oscar. “I wouldn’t try anything, farm boy. I’ll tickle you till you die laughing.”

“And how do you know I’m ticklish?” he asked defensively.

“Oh, please. Everyone’s ticklish. You look like the ticklish type.”

“What... what does that even mean?”

“Hey, keep it down, some of us are trying to read!” said Weiss, from her little corner near Maria.

“I was about to say the same thing, Miss Weiss! Great minds think alike!” the elderly lady beamed. Weiss smiled back.

“Hey,” came Yang’s voice from the front. “Wake everyone up. We’ve made it to the safe house.”

In front of them loomed a large cabin, shrouded by trees. It looked safe enough. Yang made out a deer in the greenery. Seemed peaceful.

Weiss proceeded to wake up Nora and Ren. Jaune was a different story, he was snoring loudly and refused to wake up until Maria thunked her book on his head.

The teams and adults made their way to the house. Atlas. They were finally here.

Ruby looked at Weiss, who looked better than she did on the aircraft. She would be sure to stay close to her, to make sure she wouldn’t panic or get hurt. There was no way any people would be left behind on her watch.

That included Oscar. No matter what, she would protect him. It was rather strange; despite Ozpin being sketchy and mysterious, Ruby couldn’t bring herself to hate him. And she definitely couldn’t hate Oscar. He was growing on her. She didn’t mind, she appreciated his company. He was a young boy, and what he needed now more than ever was a friend, not people coming after him and attacking him for things he didn’t do.

Sighing, Ruby settled down, underneath one of the fleece blankets Klein had left for them. He had stocked food and supplies throughout the house. Ren and Jaune got dinner cooking, while everyone else rested.

It was a long journey, and no one was quite sure what the end result would be, but as for now, they were satisfied that they could be together. Safe.

Oscar: ('Sigh') Ruby, I can't believe you stayed up all night just to watch me sleep. (Takes a Sip on his Glass of Orange Juice)

Ruby: Come on, Oscar. Could you really blame me though? (Starts Smiling Cutesy Like) You look soooo adorable when sleep~

Oscar: (Gives Ruby a "Really?" Look) Not adorable, Ruby.

Oscar: (Nodded his Proudly) Thank you- (Immediately Gets Pulled into a Hug)

Jaune: A-And it's not like we all started watching you sleep at the same time or anything. We mostly did individually for one night each. Like; Ruby & Weiss, Blake & Yang, Me, Ren & Nora, and Ms. Maria & Qrow.

Oscar: (Eyes Widened in Surprise) Even Qrow watches me sleep too?!

Jaune: Especially Qrow. (Chuckles Lightly) Kind of surprised us too, not gonna lie.

Ren: There really wasn't a day that any of us haven't watched you sleep other than everything that happened back in Atlas.

Oscar: Wait. So, if all of that's the case, does that mean one of you guys watched me sleep that night on the airship too?

Ok but just for fun, imagine this scene in place of Jaune opening the door, like a scrapped version of their introduction. Idk if this was ever meant to be a scene at all, but it's fun to picture: Ruby's hidden in the shadow of night and awning, Oscar on the stairs in the light of the moon. She asks, "Can I help you?" "Um, yeah!" Oscar fidgets. "Are you... Ruby Rose?" She narrows her eyes and hovers a hand by her weapon. "Why?" "Well..." Oscar looks over his shoulder. Qrow stumbles in with "IIII found him!", hobbling past Ruby into the house and leaving them on the doorstep. "I think her uncle could use some help?" Ruby facepalms, sighs, and apologizes for her uncle. As she does so, she steps forward to see Oscar better, and her face comes into view, eyes reflecting moonlight. "Woah..." Oscar moves up one step. "You... have silver eyes." They hold eye contact for a moment. Jaune, Ren and Nora appear in the doorway to make sure Ruby's protected, just as she asks, "Who... are you?" "Uh... Well," he says, shifting nervously, "my name is Oscar Pine... but you probably know me as... Professor Ozpin?" His eyes dart around to the others. They stare at him in shock. Because in your AU Cerise supports Rosegarden(please correct me if I’m wrong) is she more of a Ruby’s Wingwoman? Or Oscar’s?

Hmm all jokes aside about Cerise being Oscar's adoptive mother and her planning ways for RG to be together.

In the actual story, the whole dynamic between Cerise, Oscar and Ruby is subtly complex. Yes, they all get along and work as a team because they all have the same goal, stopping Salem.

The other side of it: When Cerise first meets Oscar, she was not in the best mindset. Given her journey over the course of the story, time has been wearing down her spirit of finding her husband.

Cerise grows to accept the situation she's in and over time cultivates respectful and maternal feelings towards Oscar.

RG won't be the main focus of my story, though it will be hinted. I want to stay true to how canon currently represents Ruby and Oscar respectfully as I can. Meaning Ruby and Oscar will display that continuous admiration for one another as friends and teammates; with slight awkward fumbling along the way like in V7.

There may be some instances where Cerise will take notice of this mutual admiration and may ask Oscar about what he thinks of Ruby. She's in full support of Oscar living his own life with the options given to him in the situation they're currently in. Cerise might express to him that the idea of fighting side by side with someone they care for and admire; aiming for the same goal together is considered "romantic" and wishes she could have experienced that kind of life with her husband.

The times Cerise will catch Ruby and Oscar together, whether that be discussing things or generally in the others presence, Cerise would feel envious of what they have. Of course she would never wish to take it away from them, but only yearns to know that kind of life of fighting side by side with the one you love. Cerise would never out right vocalize her envy, but her expressions/body language, actions speak for her. She supports Oscar finding happiness and if that happiness is in Ruby, or the other way around, then she'll be sure to protect that.

Now, if this was a RWBY Chibi version of events then, Cerise would try her best to get them together in a comedic fashion.

I just want to ask about Ruby's cheeks sudden change of color when she suddenly saw Emerald? The time where the ONE and FIRST and ONLY TO DATE Rosegarden hug was interrupted. Do you think it's a blush because of Oscar? But I'm not sure because it changed color when she already saw Emerald not when she saw Oscar though. 😕

I know this sudden colour change surprised some people. Including me. Technically, it is a blush, but I’m sure it’s not the kind most people think about when they hear that word. I'm convinced we shouldn't think too much about it, Nessity ^^

We can clearly see that Ruby has her natural blush here. Oscar has it too. Let’s look at the sister’s and BB reunion - they all flush in a similar way.

I’m not even sure if this one should be called a blush? It looks more like some form of darkening? The colour seems to be more brown than pink. The difference is very visible. It’s so clear that I don’t even need to make a hue box... Not at all... I totally don’t have to and don’t want to... 

Okay, but just to be clear: 

Her skin tone - natural blush, reunion blush, Emerald blush

I think people were just surprised by the colour, honestly? It looks pretty unnatural. Why would they go for this shade then? Probably to tell us something. Ruby flushed exactly in that frame, right after noticing Emerald. 

Seeing an enemy, someone she once considered to be her friend, clearly enraged her. Emerald not only lied to Ruby, she also tricked her. I feel like this colour is supposed to represent anger with a slight addition of some form of embarrassment. I honestly believe they could’ve used a darker pink/light red shade which would have resulted in a more natural look.

Ruby’s blush has technically no connection to the interrupted hug. If we want to go into the RG territory (the hug can totally be seen as platonic) - in my opinion it’s way too early for Ruby to flush in Oscar’s presence. I explained it in another post. And if we take a look at Oscar’s blush, it also looks more pink:

In conclusion: Ruby just wasn’t happy to see Emerald :D

My own from my After Salem AU Maria Pine- Growing up Maria couldn’t help but feel like she was in the shadow of heroes and legends and as a result she grew insecure. Her desire to prove herself “worthy” eventually results in her being injured on a training mission. After that she admits her insecurity to her parents and her team who help her grow past it and see her own self worth. Like her father Maria can use magic. Some adrienette fluff please

So, I’ve had this ask in my ask box for quite some time now. It was a request that I told myself I’d get around to eventually, and some requests I delete after so long because I either can’t remember what they were for, or I don’t feel like fulfilling them and having them sit in my ask box for so long just makes me feel bad. 

I know a lot of people forget that they’ve even sent these in after so long too, but I’ve held onto this one for a long time because it was Adrinette, and I knew it was only a matter of time before I found the inspiration to complete it, and when I learned that RoseGarden passed away recently, I told myself that I would finally answer this ask to honor their memory. The idea behind it is that it’s a one-sided reveal where Adrien knows Marinette’s identity, and he’s choosing to get closer to Marinette first before making a move. So, this one is for you, RoseGarden. Rest in peace.

“Okay, what next?”

Marinette’s heart fluttered as Adrien flicked eager green eyes toward her, setting down the bowl of egg whites he was beating. He looked so cute in an apron; she could barely contain herself.

“Uh, next, you’re going to fold in the flour carefully, so they don’t deflate,” she said as they both reached for the bowl at the same time. Their hands brushed, and she jumped a little, though Adrien thankfully didn’t notice.

“Thanks again for teaching me, Marinette,” he said as he worked. “Gorilla has a huge sweet tooth, so I know he’ll appreciate a snack on his birthday.”

“It’s no problem at all. I’m happy to help,” she said with a smile that he returned.

“So, what’s next?” He asked once all of the egg whites were folded in.

“Next, you want to keep folding the batter until it gets very ribbon-y,” she said.

“Like this?” He quirked a brow as he turned the spatula through the batter, and she let out a soft laugh at his clumsy motions.

“Here,” she said, gingerly placing her hands over his, doing her best to keep them from shaking. “Just keep gently folding. My papa taught me to draw figure 8s with the batter, so when you can draw one, the batter is ready.”

Adrien moved in closer as their hands turned the batter, draping his other arm over her shoulder. Her cheeks burned, and she hoped he couldn’t tell how rapidly her heart was pounding. 

“Look at that,” he said, breath hot on her ear as their hands looped once more into the perfect shape. They paused for a few moments before Marinette jerked her hand away as if she’d been shocked. 

“Um, I’ll go get the piping bags,” she said, scurrying off. 

Adrien had been more flirtatious around her lately, or at least, when she’d analyzed his behavior with the girls, they’d determined that it was flirting. She still wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. If he was flirting, should she flirt back? Would he get discouraged if she didn’t? What if it wasn’t flirting, and when she tried to flirt, she ended up weirding him out? What if she weirded him out anyway? What if-

“Marinette?” She blinked out of her downward spiral, remembering what she was supposed to be doing. 

“Okay, uh,” she squeaked, quickly grabbing a piping bag from the box. “Next we’re just going to pipe them onto a pan and let them rest while we make the filing.”

“Sounds good.”

She breathed a sigh, forcing herself to stay calm despite the whirlwind blowing inside her. Everything was fine. This was just a favor for a friend and nothing more. She could do this. It wasn’t like Adrien was being incredibly forward. A little flirty she could handle. Barely.

She showed him how to pipe a few perfect circles before letting him take over the rest as she moved onto the filling. It gave her a distraction, though, seeing as she’d been doing this since she was in diapers, it wasn’t a very good one. Her mind still wandered as she measured out the ingredients, and she forgot that this was supposed to be a lesson until she’d already blended half of them.

“So, what kind of filling are you making?” He asked, and she blinked down at the blend of sugars and milk.

“Oh, I’m sorry! I’m supposed to be showing you. I just went on autopilot,” she gasped, and Adrien let out a laugh, shaking his head.

“It’s alright. I like watching you work. You look so cute,��� he said, and this time she was certain that her brain was overheating, but all of her bodily processes stopped the moment he took a step toward her. “Um, you’ve got a little…” He trailed his fingers across her cheek, tilting her jaw ever-so-slightly to get a better look at the filling resting just above her lip. 

Her heart hammered in her chest as he leaned down, certain that he could feel the heat emanating from her face as he inched closer. She closed her eyes, waiting desperately to find out what he’d do, and her spine stiffened as his wet tongue licked the icing from her lip. Not exactly what she’d been expecting, but that counted as an almost kiss, right? 

Just when she thought he’d pull away, he touched his forehead to hers, his breath hot on her lips. He lingered there for a moment as if asking for permission and taking the slight tilt of her head as enough incentive before slipping his hand behind her neck and pulling her up to meet his lips. They were just as soft as she’d imagined, and she couldn’t tell if her feet were on the floor or if she was floating. 

Adrien was kissing her. Adrien was kissing her. This wasn’t a dream. It was far better than any of her dreams. This was happening. This was real. 

When he finally pulled away, he leaned back and licked his lips with a smirk that she’d spend hours trying to decipher later. She didn’t remember what she was doing. Where was she? What day was it? She didn’t care. Adrien had kissed her. 

“So, can I help with the filling?” He asked, flicking his gaze down to the bowl in her hands.

“S-Sure,” she said, swallowing hard and surrendering it to him. “I’m just gonna, I need to- I’m gonna go to the bathroom. I’ll- I’ll be back.”

“Okay,” he said with a smile.

She maintained her composure all the way up the stairs, but the moment the bathroom door shut, she sank to the floor with a high-pitched wheeze. Alya wasn’t going to believe this one.

Rosegarden Week Day 2 — Wedding

Something old

“Ohhh, Ruby! You look beautiful!” Yang rushed up to her sister, but was suddenly stopped. She glanced down to see a glyph under her feet, gluing her to the spot. She looked up to see Weiss staring her down with ice-cold eyes.

“Don’t you dare, Yang Xio Long,” Weiss said. “Do you know how long I’ve spent doing her hair?”

“It’s been hours, Yang. Please help me!” Ruby whispered, a mischievous smile on her face.

Weiss rolled her eyes. “Oh shut up. It’s not my fault your hair refuses to curl.”

Blake rolled her eyes with a smile.

Ruby’s eyes drifted to the small box in Yang’s hand. “Did you bring it?” she asked, voice uncharacteristically small.

Yang smiled and held out the box for her.

With shaking hands, Ruby opened the box. Inside, resting on a red velvet cushion, there was a tarnished silver hair pin, with an intricate rose inlaid with rubies and diamonds. The very same pin Summer Rose had worn at her wedding.

“Oh, Ruby,” Weiss whispered, seeing the pin. “It’s lovely.”

“Will it work?” Ruby asked. Her silver eyes were extra sparkly with tears.

“Absolutely.” Weiss carefully took the pin from the box and began to pull hair back to place the pin.

Something new

“Fortunately, this makeup is cry-proof,” Blake said, setting up her deskspace.

Ruby laughed and wiped her eyes. “That’s good.”

As Blake began to brush on makeup, Weiss and Yang worked together to attach the veil. The beautiful thing had been sewn by Kali and Willow. The two mothers had bonded over mutual love of embroidery.

Ruby thought the embellishments were a tad excessive, but she couldn’t deny the end result was gorgeous.

Something borrowed

The moment Nora walked through the door, she had to turn back around to cry. When she finally composed herself, she walked back in, followed by Ren. “I can’t believe little Ruby is getting married! And to cute boy Oz!”

“You look lovely, Ruby,” Ren said. His smile wasn’t wide, but his eyes were sparkling.

“Thank you.”

The constant compliments were starting to make Ruby feel a little anxious. Sensing this, Nora skipped over to her, holding out the red sash. “We tried to repair it as much as we could, it’s still pretty beaten up though.”

“That’s okay,” Ruby replied. “Thank you so much for letting me wear it.”

“It’s the least we could do,” Ren assured her.

“I’m sure Pyrrha would love that you’re wearing it,” Nora said. “Do you want me to help you tie it? Or is that reserved only for the ice queen of honor?”

“If you think you can do it without ruining her dress, be my guest,” Weiss replied. “I’ll fix it afterwards.” There was a slight twinkle in her eye as she said it, and Ruby giggled.

“I’m going to go back to Oscar, if that’s all right,” Ren said.

“Gonna use your semblance on him?” Nora joked.

Ren shook his head. “He’s surprisingly relaxed. I can tell he’s very excited though.”

“Bye Ren!” Blake said, waving.

“See you soon!” Yang called.

Something blue

“What’s that?” Ruby asked, glancing at the small jewels in Weiss’s hands.

Weiss held them out to her, showing a small sapphire, amethyst, and topaz. “The final touches.”

“For Team RWBY?”

“Obviously,” Weiss answered with a smile. “Is that okay?”

“I love it,” Ruby said, beaming.

After placing the three gems in her hair, Weiss stepped back to admire her handiwork. “Well, Miss Ruby Rose, I think you might actually look presentable.”

“You look so perfect!” Yang cried. She just barely shifted her weight before Weiss shot her another glare. “I can’t wait to hug you after the ceremony.”

Oscar rocked back and forth on his heels, stomach full of butterflies as he waited for his beloved.

Ren and Nora began to walk down the aisle, scattering flowers on either side. Nora beamed at Oscar and winked, acting charismatic as if she hadn’t been sobbing most of the morning. Ren’s expression wasn’t much different than usual, but Oscar could tell he was tearing up.

Next, Penny skipped down the aisle, her eyes literally glowing with excitement. She carried the rings; a golden band set with an emerald for Ruby, and a silver band set with rubies for Oscar. They each had vines engraved in the metal.

Yang and Blake followed, arm in arm. He noticed how Yang had painted her arm red for the occasion, and he held back a laugh.

Following the bees, Weiss and Jaune emerged. Despite her ridiculous heels, she barely reached his shoulder. Still, they held hands as they walked towards the altar. Weiss and Jaune were maid of honor and best man respectively, which meant the next person to walk would be...

Finally, Ruby emerged, with Tai and Qrow on either side.

Oscar felt his breath whoosh away, just like it had the very first time he saw her. Her hair had been curled and pinned back with a silver rose pin, and loose strands framed her face. Her beautiful eyes shimmered. She was already tearing up. It was only when she suddenly blurred away that he realized he was crying. He let out a breathless laugh. It felt both like the briefest moment and the longest eternity as she walked down the aisle. The rest of the crowd faded away as she drew closer.

The moment their hands intertwined, he could think of nothing else. He was sure he said all the right things, and at some point he successfully put the ring on her finger. But he didn’t really snap back into awareness until he heard the words, “You may now kiss.”

Ruby bounced on her toes and threw her arms around his neck. He looked his arms around her waist and pulled her close, hoping he could communicate the deep well of love he had for her through this kiss. Even if he couldn’t do it with this one, his chest fluttered at the realization he had the rest of their lives to show her how much she meant to him.

“I bet if we slip off no one will notice,” Oscar whispered. Their reception had been going on for about an hour, and the socializing was clearly taking a toll on his bride.

“I think they might, actually,” Ruby replied with a giggle.

“I mean, it’s our party,” he countered. “We can do whatever we want.”

After considering it for a long moment, Ruby relented and let him lead her outside to the gardens.

They found a huge hammock and curled up in it, letting the wind rock it back and forth.

The shattered moon looked full, and Ruby's eyes reflected the dazzling light.

“Have I ever mentioned how lucky I am to have you?” Oscar asked.

“No, never. Wait, do you like me or something?”

“Or something.” He leaned in and gave her a gentle kiss. “You know, after the whole… Ozpin thing, I was worried this may never happen. I thought it’d be too weird to ever marry, considering I was sharing my body with an ancient man.”

��I know,” she whispered. “Do you ever miss him?”

“Sometimes,” he admitted. “Part of me wishes he could have been here to see this. He was always rooting for me. He… obviously knew I liked you from day one.” He nudged her playfully. “And I bet he would’ve been impressed with how much better a dancer you are.”

“I think he’s proud of both of us,” she said, looking up at the constellations. As if to confirm it, the alpha star of the Ozma constellation twinkled. She smiled.

Oscar nestled his head into her shoulder. “We’re married.”

“We are,” she agreed.

Just as they were leaning in to kiss, voices caught their attention.

“I knew she was going to sneak off!” Yang declared, marching over to the hammock.

“And after all the work I put into planning this party,” Weiss huffed.

Ruby winced.

Her expression softened. “I’m just teasing, you dolt.”

“Mind if we join you?” Jaune asked, grinning.

Ruby and Oscar exchanged a look before smiling.

The groups settled down together in a semi-circle, leaving the married couple in the hammock to keep Ruby’s dress from staining. They talked for a little while, but mostly gazed at the stars. When a group of fireflies danced by, Penny impressed everyone by communicating with them via Morse code.

As Ruby looked around the group, at her family, she felt love well up in her chest all over again. She didn’t think she was going to live to see this day, to have a future of any kind. But she had made it. Oscar squeezes her hand as he laughed at something Nora had said, and her heart fluttered. She looked at her new husband, and she felt certain that her future was bright.
