This is a series where I post about the plots of my on-going fics, so I would be motivated to finish writing them.

Pairing: Tom "Iceman" Kazansky x Ron "Slider" Kerner x Pete "Maverick" Mitchell

Summary

After almost a month in his 6 month long deployment in Hawaii, Ice receives a mail.

A manila envelope is handed to him. It was addressed to him from a 'Lt. Ronald Kerner' and a date that says that it was sent just four days after his deployment.

On his way to his cabin, he takes a peak inside. And ever so slightly, an image from a polaroid flickered across his sight. He halted on his tracks and it almost made him stumble.

It was Maverick, but not just any regular photo of Maverick.

It was Mav, in what seems like Ice's old Annapolis shirt. The photo was shot at a high angle because Mav was looking up at the person taking the photo.  But what took Ice's breath away was what Mav was doing in the photo.

Maverick, was hazily staring at the camera, tongue slightly out, his lips wrapped around two finger that should be Ron's, suckling at it like his life depended on it. His eyes were glistening with tears and hair disheveled.

I really really need an Icemav fic where they had been together in secret for quite a while before going to Top Gun together.

As soon as they found out that everyone mistook their tension as a different kind, they decided to bet on (like they always did) who would be the first to give their true relationship away. And instantly started white-hot competition.

So like, we will have the same locker room scene, but:

Ice's "I don't like you" actually means "I love you instead"

Mav's "Ice... Man" is because he uses the endearment habitually, and then rushes to add the full name.

After Layton, they can't help but kiss each other, right in the centre of the crowd. And that's what gives them away.

So they both lose. And both win.

Ice knows he's going to lose his voice. They say that they'll do their best to leave him with something to work with after the surgery, but call it pessimism or just gut feel, he knows he's going to lose it.

It's the beginning of the modern digital age and he takes full advantage of it. He buys a video camera, top of the range so the video would still be good for years to come. (None of them knew how good technology would become in just a few short years, how fast those videos will become dated.)

He records short videos and long videos.

"I love you."

"I'm proud of you."

"Don't forget to write a grocery list or you'll forget milk and buy a fridge."

"Ron, you're my best friend, I love you. Thank you for saving me at the academy."

"Maverick, no."

"Pete I love you."

"Yes Rick, Leo is a pain in the ass."

Plot:

After a month of his 6 month long deployment in Hawaii, Iceman receives a mail.

Ice couldn't wait until he got to his cabin to open the mail, so he took a peak. His jaw dropped from what he saw. It was a polaroid of Maverick, but it wasn't any regular picture of Maverick.

Mav: Today I realised I'm old Ice: What happened? Mav: I fell in the kitchen and instead of laughing, Bradley came running to see if I was ok Ice: Mav: I saw fear in his eyes

Listen, I love "Uncle Ice" as much as anyone, but can you picture Bradley, maybe twelve, when Uncle Mav and Ice get together and he starts wondering what to call Ice now. Sarah's kids already call him Uncle Ice.

His full callsign is Iceman.

Ice has just arrived back home after a lengthy deployment (Slider wasnt with him because of an injury he had to recover from) and all 4 men KNOW he and Mav are barely clinging onto their composure because they MISSED each other like crazy and the private reunion is going to be Intense.

Slider and Goose know their pilots and best friends AND they very much enjoy heckling them mercilessly so this was inevitable, really. 10 more seconds later and they would have seen stuff that they really didn't want to see, too lmao

Thinking about Mav being unsure of what Ice's eye color is

Of course he's not going to do the normal thing and ask the man, so he settles for finding ways to get up close and personal to try and see for himself without being obvious (-> he fails)

But every time he gets a close enough look they're different. One day they look blue but the next they look hazel. One moment they look brown but then he turns his head and a different light catches on them and they look almost green

It turns into one big game of "How close will he let me get? How much will he let me see?" And it's not until he's gotten to the point of being a breath away from Ice's face- close enough to brush lips- and standing under the bright white LEDs that he realizes that they're gray
