A Million Ways to Say 'I love you'.
"You're an idiot, y'know that?" Clint said, knotting his torn sleeve over Sam's bleeding shoulder; listening for an ambulance.
They were sitting on debris and rubble, bystanders taking photos and pointing.
"Aw, c'mon. That hurt." Sam joked and Clint cinched the ends, patting him hard on the shoulder.
Sam  elbowed him back. "Least say you're glad am not dead." He teased.
Clint curved his lip.
"I'll cry, y'know, right here infront of all these people." Sam said.
"Do it then I don't care. Just don't go flying into anymore grenades."
"I won't, if you tell me."
Clint gave up and brushed their knees together. "Am glad you're not dead. And I'm pissed at you."
Sam smiled. "Am glad you're not dead, too." He said.
The ambulance arrived after an hour.

I think more people need to realize that one of the biggest elements of cringe culture (deviantart cringe) was essentially just rebranded puritanism.
It's not just that it's deviant sexuality, nor that it's centered in on problematic concepts (like minor characters being involved in sexual activities, even if aged up), it's sexuality in general. Generally speaking (although there are numerous different reasons a person might not like sexual content of a certain nature) the actual central linking theme of a lot of content included in those "omg they ruined [x piece of media]!!!1!" posts was just sexual or suggestive content of any nature.
As someone who used to be entrenched in that kind of thing I will say that a lot of it is literally just actual immaturity (both in regards to how one sees sex, and in general) but there are times where it is genuinely just a moral grandstand against any and all pornography or sexually suggestive content of any nature, which is puritanical, and insane.

bro / girl / person how short of a time have you been on the internet to not have heard the term ‘slashfictuon’? it’s not a new word, it’s been around since like the 60s before the internet existed and fandom people still traded homemade zines. shipping fic aka character / character.
i was born in 99, i grew up with access to the internet, i just never heard that word before

This is so interesting! X and / being used platonically, isn't what I'm personally used to- but how many great fics have I chosen to walk away from because of a tag that I was misunderstanding in this way? How often has an author been basically using football to mean soccer, when I'm used to football meaning American football, and then im changing the channel because that team matchup i do nooot wanna see. (Metaphor kinda got loss, but I'll be more cognizant of this difference in language moving forward! It's pop vs soda vs coke. It's chip vs fry, biscuit vs cookie, fanny vs fanny!! Where i know when i read these ive gotta pause to determine amount of European-y things present to KNOW whats being said.)
i’m not sure if this is intentional, and i’m hoping that it’s not, but uh, u should be aware that “character x character” refers to a romantic relationship, so when you write “father!miguel o’hara x daughter!reader” it implies that you’re writing father/daughter incest. if this isn’t the case (again, i rlly rlly hope it’s not the case) you wanna use “father!miguel and daughter!reader” instead, this way more people can read your work without thinking it’s incest. i just wanted to give you a heads up!
hello! this is the second time i’m receiving a message that regards this matter, but i forgot to take care of the first one because i took a hiatus that lasted for at least a month (you can check the gap between my last update and my current one.)
before i proceed to address this matter, i want to say first and foremost that i do not condone incest in any way. it is a topic i will not engage with or entertain.
if you're following me on my alternate account ( @avatarkv ), you'll notice that my works there primarily revolve around familial themes; you'll also notice my consistent use of the "character x character" tags. i’ve been writing since april, and never has this aspect been raised as a concern until now.
but please don’t get me wrong, i very much appreciate the heads up! i’ve done a quick research myself and although the meaning differs, most answers explain that putting x in between two names solely emphasizes the two characters in the said story— or in a sense, yes, their relationship. however, i think it’s general knowledge that a relationship isn’t at all limited to romantic alone.
would like to hear more from this! correct me if i’m wrong too, but believe me— if i wanted to write incest, i would’ve clearly stated it on the tags :) nevertheless, i am mindful of not causing any discomfort to anyone here, so i will be removing them if ever that is truly the case.
thank you, anon.

Today is TOS Amok Time's 57th anniversary, officially Spirk Day so I'm honoring the date by reading a paper on how the ideas behind Kirk/Spock slash fanfiction articulate queer love in a way that makes it accessible to everyone, queer or not, and it is the most romantic paper I've read! Happy Spirk Day!
An excerpt of the text:
This paper argues that what the characters of Kirk and Spock represent is an archetypal pairing that transcends gender altogether. By reading K/S queerly and broadly, these gender distinctions become irrelevant. What matters are the characters themselves, and the unique qualities that make fan authors - straight, gay, indifferent - feel the need to pair them. Specifically, the Kirk/Spock pairing represents not a bonded pair, but a divided self. Sexuality, like the mindmeld, becomes a stand-in for the reunification spoken of in Aristophanes' tale of the Children of the Sun - two humans once whole separated and ever seeking their other half. The corporate caretakers of these characters have proven themselves, to a broad readership, unwilling to realize the "particular style of the 23rd century" as one in which queer love is acceptable love. And so, for close to forty years, an active and activist readership has been doing it for them through the creation of an aberrant folklore that they believe adheres more closely to the spirit of the narrative's utopian origins. It has fallen upon the fan to become creator, the reader to become the author, and the author to become active in the reuniting of this divided self.
From The Final Frontier Is Queer: Aberrancy, Archetype and Audience Generated Folklore in K/S Slashfiction (2005) by P. J. Falzone on @jstor

Standing Together Through Life's Shit-Storms
Sam closed his laptop and walked out to the balcony. Clint was waiting, staring out at people with a warm soda can.
"You okay?" Clint asked, handing Sam the half-empty can. The air was thick and balmy.
"Yeah." Sam said. Distant. Clint cupped his hand, bumping their shoulders.
"I know therapy's hard." He said.
Sam jeered. "Nah, it's good. It's all the people that still tell you you're bad afterwards...that sucks."
"No, they suck."
Sam reclined into Clint.
"Am I a bad Captain America?" He asked. The question weighed on him, drug him down to wanting to ask it over and over.
"No, Sammie, you're good. You help people, that's all Cap ever wanted...screw what all these politicians are asking for you. You're good."
"Yeah," Sam narrowed his fingers around Clint's. "Still feels like my life is one shit-storm after another."
"That part just comes with the job. Ya get used to it."
They stood out on the balcony, watching people till it was evening, drinking warm soda, and Clint didn't let go of Sam's hand.

Featured fic: Gay's the Word
This year's fic: Gay's Still the Word
Redbirdandbluebird23 made the move into writing slashfiction last year after almost a decade writing other fanworks. She mainly focuses on Jaydick, but has plans to introduce platonic Batfam works in the future. It is only in the last couple of years that she figured out she was asexual, so this event has been a great way to explore this in writing. You can find her on Tumblr and AO3.
I'm so happy to have taken part in @dc-aspec-week the second year! This year's fic is a follow on from last year's and I hope you enjoy it! ❤️💙

You were being such a bitch to the slash fiction person, glad to see they’re an upstanding person about it and you acting as a thin skinned loser.
They weren’t even coming off as condescending. Christ.. and to call them grandma, blindly insulting them shows your mental state.
Enjoy your new house I suppose, you don’t deserve it at all for the way you treat people who weren’t being hostile to begin with, please grow up.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 anon who hurt you

I was amazed to run into your tumblr and have finally worked up the nerve to send this message: Thank you so much for writing the deep & dark blue.
I grew up in a progressive state, but an unspokenly don't say gay town, and queer fiction wasn't around me, except in the erotica and slashfiction I'd read online when I got much older. Especially queer happy endings. They just Weren't There growing up.
Fast forward twenty-some odd years and I'm working as an office clerk in an elementary school. A library book gets returned to the office instead of the library. It had a neat cover that caught my interest, and it was a graphic novel so I figured it wouldn't take me too long to read. I gave it a try on my lunch break.
I cried big ugly tears by the end. That book was your book. The acceptance Grace faces in the end was the happy story I had long since accepted just Wouldn't Happen in children's media. I know the deep & dark blue isn't the first queer children's story, but it was MY first queer children's story, and it will always have a special place in my heart. Your book picked up my childhood self and gave them a big huge and told them "It's going to be okay. I see you. You are going to be okay."
So, thank you for every ounce of time and energy you put into making the deep & dark blue, and every book you've written since, and every book you'll write.
Sincerely,
A very sentimental nonbinary reader
Thank you so much for your message, Anon. I could say something long and hokey, but instead: please know it made me very emotional. Readers are why I keep writing. I'm so glad The Deep & Dark Blue could be that first queer children's story for you.
You're not alone and you never were, even when the world tries so hard to silence and isolate us. I see you! You're going to be okay. Thank you again.
