Tuff Luck
Y'all remember Skylanders? I do...
Tumblr media
Been getting Skylanders dripping back into my brain. Discovered a girly named Tuff Luck from after I stopped playing and decided I needed to draw her.
Also one big excuse to try to practice things I'm inexperienced in like backgrounds, metal, and crystals. Learned I loved doing crystal, hate the other 2. Either way, enjoy the cat girl and Good Luck upon Y'all.

Blue Crocogator vs Mentally-Fucked Green Bear
What could go wrong
Actually I wanna draw Snapshot now but I can’t atm
Maybe later
1. Yes they have to fight, 2. Tell me who’s fighting who in the tags! (I’ll add the most ridiculous combos in a reblog)

I wasn’t really much of a video game kid, but one game I do remember playing a lot with my family was “Skylanders: Trap Team”. I would always play as Hijinx! That was until we lost/broke all the pieces…..;-;

OKAY SO SKYLANDERS IS A TOYS TO LIFE GAME FROM MY CHILDHOOD. IN FACT IT IS THE TOYS TO LIFE GAME. THE ONE THAT POPULARIZED IT. ANYWAYS THERES SIX GAMES. SPYRO’S ADVENTURE, GIANTS, SWAP FORCE, TRAP TEAM, SUPERCHARGERS AND IMAGINATORS. TRAP TEAM IS THE BEST ONE AND THERE’S LIKE 175 FIGURES AND SOME ARE REALLY EXPENSIVE OUT OF RARITY AND THERES TEN ELEMENTS WITH TEO ONLY SHOWING UP IN THE SECOND HALF. THERES AIR EARTH WATER FIRE LIFE TECH MAGIC UNDEAD LIGHT AND DARK. THERE ARE SEVERAL TYPES OF FIGURES. CORE, LIGHTCORE, MINIS, GIANTS, SWAPPERS, TRAP MASTERS, SUPERCHARGERS, TRAPS, CREATION CRYSTALS AND SENSEIS. THE CHARACTERS ARE ALL AMAZING AND THE GAMES ARE CHEAP NOWADAYS. ANYWAYS YEAH.

😉 and 💜 for the ask game
😉 Most memorable gameplay moment/moments
Probably the fact that Trap Team for the Wii is so incredibly cursed. Yeah, we only had a Wii for the longest time. Just a regular Wii. And good golly miss Molly is it bungled. If you pick up food in the Dreamcatcher fight, you brick your console and have to restart the entire level. It's hilarious as well as frustrating.
💜 What does skylanders as a franchise mean to you?
I mean, I wouldn't say it's childhood, because I was in my teens when Spyros Adventure came out, but I have immensely enjoyed it. It's a lot more fun to play with friends than alone, but it's still a pretty great game. Lots of fondness for it.

I had to retype this entire thing sobb
Tumblrs a bitchhh
Ooh… my favorite is most definitely Ro-Bow. Though I’ll probably never get him since his resale prices are ridiculous. But out of the figures I DO own, probably Snapshot. He’s the only reason I got my mom take me to get Trap Team for the 360 back in 2014… picked up Chopper too… love that memory honestly.
I have all the games on the PS3, plus my original Trap Team, swap force, and giants on the 360, Superchargers on the PS4 and Imaginators on the Xbox one.
Off the top of my head, I’ve maxed out, Golden Queen, Snapshot, NFC robow, and probably a shit more back from my early childhood.
Simce we moved, my skylanders don’t have a shelf right now.. but I can show the bag they’re in. For an idea on the size of said bag, it’s one of the reusable grocery bags from like aldis or something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also have all the Trap Team McDonalds toys, which I need to dig out of my Duplicates box.
I have over 130 figures, not counting Vehicles, Extra Levels, Traps, or the power up thingamajigs.
I’ve finished my SSA collection except for WhamBam. I have all the Giants, missing a chunk of the Giant cores though, decent bit of swappers, almost all minus a few, missing I think, missing about half of the Trap masters and my TT cores collection is sad 💀, not missing that many superchargers or Seneis’ though.

My dad bought me this for my birthday last year! It doesn’t have a home rn unfortunately.. the amount of Life Hammers I have is NOT okay 😭😭 ignore the free roaming Kaos Trap. He’s struggling..
Tumblr media
I also have this really cute Spyro alarm clock from the Swap Force era..
Rant over..
I am so sorry for this lmaoo
@tavi-calypso i see you are a skylanders enjoyer. i am looking directly at you. who is your favorite? and if you have some series games, what games do you have? max level anyone? tell me all your skylanders thoughts.

sorrow vent: my childhood is dying off
i just discovered that since i can't remember how long it's been since i last played @webkinz and accounts are deleted after seven years of inactivity, both of my accounts are likely gone
i also remember the inactivity period before deletion of poptropica accounts being much shorter, so my poptropica account is surely gone now
minecraft is being crammed full of microtransactions and roblox is slowly but surely changing from a game to a poorly-made cash grab
not to mention it's extremely likely that no more new skylanders games will be made
ultraterran and gigabowser6 are on life support, little bo the black lab, sunny the golden sun bear, and bronze crush are dead, and skylands is crumbling to dust
someone save me
i don't know if i can handle this

Gift Yourself December: Day 14 - Skylanders
(God, the portrait for this one is so uncanny valley, but this is the one I’ve got and I gotta stick too it.) Anyway, Skylanders! A childhood classic. I don’t really get super into it until Trap Team. I had played the 3DS version of Spyro’s Adventure before hand, but didn’t really keep up with it. That was until the shiny carrot of ‘You can play as villains’ was dangled in my face and I knew I had to get it. It’s a shame that it ended on Imaginators, especially since that was the definite point the series went from ‘fun little idea that turned into a smash success’ to ‘cash cow’. Still, the series was great and had a lot more effort put into its world and design than it rightly needed to. So many of the Skylanders themselves, as well as NPC’s you could tell had a lot of love poured into them. And, I mean, who doesn’t think Kaos is the perfect villain for the series (even if his performance was lack-luster in Imaginators). Now if I could just complete my Skylanders collection...

Lightseekers - the latest word in toy-led gaming?
Tumblr media
I must admit to being surprised to hear from Tomy, I wasn't sure they were still going and it makes the kid in me quite happy to know the founders of my childhood are still going strong, and even diversifying.  Tomy and Lightseekers are now collaborating on a new toy led video game experience. I spoke with the Lightseekers team at EGX this year about their TCG/toy/app venture, and I was impressed by the amount of work and lore that was present in quite a new game.
Lightseekers is a bit of a hybrid animal.  Part TCG, part app, part toy, they have their irons in quite a few fires.  I have personally played quite a bit of the TCG, I own a Holy and a Storm deck and really enjoy the complexities of the game.  The app focuses on characters present in the TCG and can be played with using a linked toy – called a Smart Action Figure.  I was lucky to have a go with one of the models on the floor at EGX, a character called Mari.  The toy can be used to give additional functionality to the game, as well as a new way to control your character, tilting the toy rather than the screen and equipping weapons to your character to unlock different powers, as well as different unlockables being found by scanning TCG cards (a bit like the dearly departed WoW TCG loot cards.  I miss them).
What I like about this though is even though the figures are quite expensive - £25 each, they provide a lot of functionality.  No base set is required for purchase, just a mobile device and the free app, and you can quite happily use one figure to experience the game in it's entirety, unlike other interactive toy experiences such as Skylanders and Lego Dimensions.   These examples feature levels that were locked until you purchased the relevant set or figure at £15 each and you were already paying £80+ just for the base set and game.  It's really unfair to parents to expect them to fork out more money for a game they have already paid for.  The other great thing about the Smart Action Figures is that it's a fun toy in and of itself.  Regular action figure play is entirely possible, in comparison to the more statue-esque figures featured in Skylanders and Disney Infinity.
So what's the game actually like? Well, it plays a little like Crash Bandicoot with weapons.  Bright and colourful levels are navigated, avoiding traps and killing monsters, except with a greater emphasis on the device to control your character.  I do not currently have the model so I was using my phone to control the game and found it easy to play, which is good because I am very uncoordinated.  It also has no micro transactions, so there are no worries for anxious parents handing  over their iPads.
I like this game.  It's new, it's fresh and it's fun.  It's given a new dimension to the toy-led games industry and I wish them every success, as this is a much fairer business model on families.  Want to learn more?  Check out lightseekers.co.uk for more info!
