TODAY, August 12, 2024, The Animation Guild begins negotiations with the AMPTP to win a new contract for animation. This is a huge fight with severe stakes for the future of the Animation Industry in the US, and the guild needs your support!

TAG is fighting, Right Now, to stop exploitative practices that are weaponized against animation professionals across the globe, and working hard to ensure this industry has a future here in the states.

If you are a fan of animation, whether it's major or independent studios, eastern or western, tv or movies, we need you to get LOUD in support of The Animation Guild. The crews who work so hard to bring these works to life are struggling to pay their bills, if they can find work at all, while studio CEOs are getting multi-million dollar raises to cancel projects and gut streaming libraries.

We can win this fight, but we need public outcry and support. If you work in animation, if you've ever dreamed of working in animation, or if you just love animation, please stand with TAG and support the union effort to keep animation a viable career and a valuable medium!

Animation post from an animator (the situation is bad y'all):

Animation "fans" who celebrated the cancellation of Velma actually hate animation as a whole. Here's why:

A successful (many people watched it even if it was disliked) big name celeb show animated series getting cancelled is a bad omen for the animation industry.

Castlevania - popular and generally loved, fantastically animated, is currently on hiatus awaiting renewal, fearing cancellation.

Cartoon Network was closed down. Half the industry is out of work. Cancellations are increasing. Shows are getting removed from streamers.

Indies exist but are working with 20% of actual budgets of animated series and constantly underpaying artists - or the artists are simply not paid at all, working for passion.

LA animators are out of work, studios are laying off thousands. Every cancelled show is a bad sign.

They will never stop at the shows you hate. Everyone saying they wanted Velma or Big Mouth or any number of adult cartoons to end don't understand that IF THESE SHOWS DO END, there's no hope for your faves. They will stop existing.

Because if "profitable" and "popular" isn't enough, "good" and "well-made" isn't gonna be either. They're gonna cancel all your faves as easily, or heck, easier, than they'll cancel those shows you hate.

People who celebrate this don't "love animation". They don't #StandWithAnimation at all. They want it to fail.

On a more personal note, I am personally an animation graduate who graduated in 2021 and has not been able to get a job in animation. I am lucky enough to have a job in reprographics and a member of LOCAL ATU 241 (union strong baby!) but unfortunately a lot of my fellow graduates are struggling in the field or unable to find jobs. This is a symptom of the problem. Which is why it is important not just for us animators but also for YOU to help TAG win their fight!
