my headcanons about the weasley-wood family but i try to make them coherent
(side note - if you want more info about the oc kids i gave them in this fic, you can find said info here. there will be some inconsistencies, because i've changed some info about the weasley-wood family story since then, but most info is the same.)
percy never wanted kids as a child growing up in a family with (in his opinion) far too many kids.
oliver and percy got together in fourth year, so while oliver had had a few thoughts that it would be nice to have a big family he could play quidditch with, he didn't really think much about a future where that could actually happen.
after the war, they both took a different perspective on this issue after the war orphans fund was introduced and harry was all over it.
it started with them fostering kids. they took care of a few different children. only children and groups of siblings, infants and toddlers, etc. but then they met lucy and her half brother.
lucy was two, but her infant brother was too young to have a name by the time he and lucy's parents were killed. because they felt weird just calling him the baby or lucy's brother, they nicknamed him skye after where oliver grew up.
this is really when they got attached, because how are they supposed to let go of lucy and skye after this? after giving skye a name and lucy her first broom? (yes, she was only two, but this is oliver wood we're talking about, so who's really surprised? at least percy was able to talk oliver into not letting her fly alone.)
a year after they officially adopt lucy and skye, they decide they want another kid. (it's for the charity. they're doing it for the charity.) this is how katie comes into the picture.
katie has dark hair and dark eyes and olive skin and doesn't look anything like her siblings or percy and oliver (lucy and skye, who have blonde hair and blue eyes and brown hair and green eyes respectively, both look like they could be biologically related to their parents). and this changes absolutely nothing.
katie and lucy both love quidditch - lucy lives and breathes it just like oliver does - and yet they are both truly, undeniably like percy.
katie is the one people always talk about. the girl who's most like him all the time, even though he doesn't see it (or, at least, pretends not to). the girl everyone bets will be in slytherin because she's too alike percy to be in any house other than the one he was in. she's even ultra powerful like he and oliver (and marcus and penelope) are.
lucy, meanwhile, is the daughter most people don't realize is like percy because she's so unlike him outside of home. it's not like she isn't herself outside the house, but she's much more outgoing. much more energetic and ready to pull pranks, because why be anything less when there's so much of the world to see?
but at home, everything is familiar. there's nothing new to see when she knows it like the back of her hand, and she can be calm and run on the beach and overturn rocks in search of crabs without feeling the want (or need) to put on a show. and there, at home, in her element, she's so much like percy that sometimes, he has to look away.
percy and oliver were 1/2 of the golden era marauders, and now lucy is 1/4 of the next gen marauders. percy is secretly very proud of this.
skye doesn't like quidditch, and doesn't really like talking to people at all, but he's painfully similar to oliver. almost weirdly so.
skye is a hufflepuff, but - like lucy - he was a hatstall, and like lucy, he was almost put into gryffindor. he doesn't really even understand quidditch, but he spends hours in the library pouring over strategies when his friends or sisters need him to.
skye is the one who looks like he could really be oliver's son, because even though he has green eyes and oliver has brown, their hair is the exact same shade and texture. skye is the one who gravitates to oliver's side while lucy goes to percy's, because while he loves both his parents, we look for people who are like us, don't we?
but there are also moments when skye and percy sit together reading while oliver, lucy, and katie fly above the beach. there are afternoons where oliver and lucy bake together while percy, skye, and katie play board games in the living room.
there are moments when the five of them fly together, skye clinging onto lucy from the back of her broom, because while she's the one who aimed her bludgers at him when they were little, he doesn't feel safe being off the ground with anybody else.
there are long nights when percy and oliver aren't home, out with friends or on a date, when lucy gathers skye and katie into her room and they set up beds on the floor so they can stargaze through the skylight.
all in all, their family might be different, but it's a family, and i think that's pretty cool.

i def have kid headcanons and i def have them for percy’s crew as well
i made up percy and oliver’s kids w/o knowing lucy and molly weasley were characters but one of their kids is still named lucy out of coincidence. they have three kids: lucy, skye, and katie.
lucy is a ravenclaw and beater for the ravenclaw team. she becomes a prefect and almost head girl but this goes to rose instead. (no matter what universe bc i have a few, lucy and rose are always the same year.) she’s also captain of the ravenclaw team. she’s a complete blabbermouth and once got a bludger to the face after she insulted a beater on the slytherin team. she regrets nothing
skye is two years younger than lucy and a hufflepuff. he doesn’t play quidditch but becomes a prefect and is at least considered for head boy if not made head boy
katie is a year younger than skye, plays beater and then seeker once albus graduates, and is in slytherin. personality-wise, she’s basically percy if he was really extroverted. she becomes captain of the slytherin quidditch team in her 5th year.
meanwhile penelope and marcus (who i ship, for some reason) have two kids named devyn and cedric (after cedric diggory ofc)
devyn is two years older than lucy and a ravenclaw. he’s a chaser for the ravenclaw team and captain in his 7th year. he and cedric are naturally both really smart, so he also has that going for him lol. devyn is super outgoing and is best friends with dominique weasley. he loves welcoming new students at the beginning of the year.
as for cedric, he’s… let’s just say he doesn’t take after his namesake. cedric is, according to not only his godsiblings (lucy, skye, and katie) but also devyn himself, creepy. he’s in the same year as skye and is keeper for slytherin’s quidditch team, but he turned down being made captain so katie was made captain instead. he’s skye’s main competitor for head boy but i haven’t decided who actually will be head boy. he’s really quiet and mostly just watches people tbh
i am also rambling lol but here it is
do you have any kid head canons that tend to stay the same for you whenever you think of them?
Like for Percy's girls I always imagine Molly and Lucy as twins and being in different houses typically Molly in Slytherin and Lucy in Hufflepuff
With Molly being into quidditch but more out of spite that grew into love because early on into first year she said something about playing it with her family and some older students immediately started being assholes and tell her she won't be able to play on the team which she took as a challenge and ended up growing to love the sport alot more and maybe or maybe not becomes captain that kinda depends
While Lucy is a Prefect who has no interest in being head girl like it's offered to her but she immediately declines because she never had any intention of doing it and is mostly a prefect for the perks even though she's a natural at helping the younger kids. I also tend to think of her as an obsessive artist but not a traditional artist something more hands on clay, stained glass, woodworking, wand making something like that
I also have thoughts on the main kids I give Oliver and Marcus though not as many
I normally give Marcus a little girl i tend to call Maria which I swear I saw somewhere but I am unsure where if I'm thinking of a flintley au she's normally a couple of years younger then the twins and ends up in Ravenclaw just because the idea of Percy having a kid in every house But the weasley house is funny to me and because I like the idea of people joking about them needing to adopt another so they can have a full set anyway. I tend to think of Maria as a bit more of a cry baby because I like the idea of Marcus trying really hard to take care of her but overcompensating and coddling her a bit too much though that's more when she's younger not like hogwarts age
For Oliver its a little boy who's name I keep switching on (currently it's Cypress though) he is a griffindor I tend to think of him as "Oliver 2 Electric Boogaloo" because I firmly belive Oliver has ADHD and that shits hereditary I do think his son would have a different special interest/hyperfixation though just still don't know what
But I'm at the point where im getting very rambling

Quidditch Culture: An honest look at The Wizarding Sport
Listen, I love Quidditch.
You love Quidditch.
We all love Quidditch.
If nothing else, it’s a funny word. But the Harry Potter books gave us a fully realized sport with rules that were easy enough to understand without being too simplistic. It was relatable to real sports, but with a bit of fantasy thrown in to make it feel other-worldly. Expanded content, like the book Quidditch Through The Ages, only fleshed the game out even further. (I’ll be referencing that book and bringing up details revealed within it, just as a forewarning.) Sure, Quidditch has been mocked over the years because of the unbalanced role the Seeker has over the other players, but they did manage to offer a counter argument in the form of the World Cup match in GOF (I’ll be talking about that too) and really, the isolation and heightened role for the seeker was basically just symbolism for Harry’s role in the wizarding community. The game is fun, plain and simple. It’s exciting.
But it is also shockingly violent, frighteningly competitive, and practically all-consuming.
There is no avoiding the fact that Quidditch is a dangerous sport. You play the game on broomsticks, flying a hundred feet in the air, give or take. To call that a health hazard is putting it lightly. Anyone can fall off their broomsticks at any time. It’s not just a hypothetical, either. There are numerous instances of this happening in-universe. Players fall, crash, or get deliberately knocked off their brooms. In every single game, they risk death. They risk severe, potentially lifelong injuries. While it is possible that there is some kind of cushioning charm on the field below, we don't ever get confirmation of that, even in Quidditch Through The Ages. That's literally just a head-canon. The Wizarding World itself is inherently dangerous, and that gets into a different (and much bigger) conversation. Flying isn’t exactly safe, but it at least has a purpose, that being transportation. Quidditch is a form of recreation. It’s not a necessity, despite what certain characters would have you believe, and I will get to that.
To be fair, the existence of magic renders many of the dangers of this world considerably safer, or at least less fatal. But that’s part of the problem. An ability to magically heal wounds has resulted in this society overall taking injury less seriously. It has led to a shared sense of overconfidence. Particularly since they have no concept of mental health. Like I said, this is a bigger discussion for another day, but I’d just like to draw the conclusion that witches and wizards don’t understand trauma, and how it can affect people. If you fall fifty feet and your arm snaps in half, that’s going to be excruciatingly painful and frightening. A Healer might be able to wave a wand and heal your physical injuries, but the trauma of such a shocking, painful experience won’t simply disappear. Mental health matters.
But if you thought that was the end of it, my friend, then I’m afraid you have forgotten about The Bludgers. Because if you take a step back to think about it, the existence of the bludgers is insane. Gigantic iron bullets that rocket around the field with the sole purpose of attempting to knock players off their broomsticks. One of the balls in this sports game will actively try to kill you. If nothing else, it’s exceedingly unlikely that you’ll go an entire Quidditch career without getting severely injured by one of them. Couple that with the anxiety, because I don’t know about you, but if I played Quidditch? I would be constantly paranoid about the bludgers. True, there are players on standby who exist to protect you from them…but that’s really not enough, especially since there are also players on standby who exist to use them against you. The two primary jobs of the Beater are to protect their team from Bludgers and hit them at the opposing team. That's not even acknowledging the risk that they might hit people in the stands. Again, we don't ever see this happen, so one can assume there are spells to prevent it...but that's still just a theory.
Quidditch is more violent than the likes of boxing, and there is little doubt that it can cause lasting damage to players just as easily. It could probably do so a lot faster. How any of them still have teeth, how most of them don’t have brain damage, is absolutely beyond me. Beaters literally exist to attack opposing players. In particular, the Seeker, because of their crucial role. What’s more, the Seeker has no counterpart like the Beaters and Chasers. They’re completely on their own, and frequently a target. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the World Cup game. Apart from establishing that The Seeker isn’t actually that overpowered if you have Chasers who are skilled enough, this match gave us an insight into just how ruthlessly violent professional Quidditch can be.
I say this unironically - Aidan Lynch sustained serious brain damage after that game. There is no way that he did not. He crashed into the ground at least twice. At least one of these crashes was deliberate on the part of Krum. I cannot stress this enough - there is an entire maneuver, a famous Seeker move, designed around tricking the opposing Seeker into crashing. This is something that the characters don’t see as a problem, either, beyond lamenting that it was done to the team they were supporting. Arthur condemns Lynch, the victim, for falling into the trap. Charlie writes it off by saying “He only got ploughed!” The characters, even the adults, are completely oblivious to the real problem here, and the lack of self-awareness is truly disturbing. Even Harry is susceptible to this. Muggle-borns (and those raised by muggles) are not immune to Quidditch Culture. To Harry, like everyone else, the Wronskei Feint isn’t horrific, it’s cool. The mark of an exceptional Seeker. The only bad thing about it was that Krum put himself in danger, apparently.
The utterly cavalier attitude that fans have toward the violence is not an isolated incident, either. It is the norm. It’s not only socially acceptable for Quidditch players and their fans to be bloodthirsty, in some cases it is even expected, and brings out viciousness among even the most level-headed people. Did you know this game has seven hundred fouls? At one point Slytherin gets in trouble for attacking Oliver Wood, but only because, and I quote, "You do not attack the Keeper unless the Quaffle is within scoring area." Apparently it's just fine to do so otherwise. There is a team in the British/Irish league known as the Falmouth Falcons, who are infamous for their violent playstyle. To the point where their motto is, I kid you not, “Let us win, but if we cannot win, let us break a few heads.” How in god’s name does a professional sports team get away with something like that? I’ll tell you how. Because Quidditch fans are nuts. Because Quidditch fans are no less desensitized to the dangers of this game than the players are.
This can be observed in virtually every character we see who becomes invested in the game. Oliver Wood is one of the finest examples, as is Skye Parkin from HPHM. While it's usually played for laughs, these tendencies are unhealthy and disturbing if you look at them realistically. Both of these characters take the game of Quidditch, specifically their goal of victory, way too far. To the point where they seem to value a match victory over things like the well-being of their team. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of healthy enthusiasm for team sports, nothing wrong with being passionate for a game that you love. But when Oliver tells Harry to “get the snitch or die trying” and it’s not entirely clear if he’s joking…then he’s putting the game itself over his team. Which, as the literal team captain, is simply not acceptable. Then Harry himself falls into this tendency. Even though a bludger is actively trying to kill him, Harry prioritizes defeating Slytherin over his own safety. Harry’s not even the competitive type, not usually. But he's never been one to take his own life that seriously this game brings out that side of people, and does so to dangerous levels.
Almost everyone who ever touches this game comes off worse for it. (The only exception I can think of being Ginny Weasley.) Ron playing Quidditch caused his inferiority complex to act up and gave him a healthy dose of stage fright. The HPHM Quidditch storyline sees multiple characters suffering for the sake of Quidditch, from Skye Parkin being pressured to live up to her family’s legacy, to Erika Rath being subjected to bullying and pressure from all sides, thanks to her own talents. Gwenog Jones, as we learn in HPHM, was a short-sighted cheat who never took responsibility for her actions. Ludo Bagman is no different. He’s a gambling addict who winds up stealing the life savings of two teenagers to cover his debt. The only character to ever criticize the negativity that Quidditch creates is Hermione, and like most of the time, she’s absolutely right. But the conversation never goes anywhere because she is always shut down, swiftly and without mercy. The other characters in the room act as though she’s blasphemed. All because she doesn’t like a sport.
This is what I mean. Quidditch is not simply a game to these people. To the witches and wizards who are into it, Quidditch is worshipped. It’s a lifestyle, a philosophy, that is shared across this society. There are no “casual” fans. People who follow this sport become invested, to an unhealthy level. To the point of rioting if it's taken away, to the point where Lee Jordan and Murphy McNully can't even pretend to be impartial, and this is treated as basically normal. When I use the phrase “Quidditch Culture” I’m not simply being pretentious. There really does seem to be shared understanding between the fans, and all of them take the game that seriously. I think the greatest example of this can be found in the Daily Prophet. When “stooging” was banned, people were outraged. Including one boy who claimed that he and his dad “liked watching them Keepers get flattened.” He tearfully claims that he doesn’t want to go see Quidditch games anymore. Kid was six years old, by the way.

I really feel like the culture speaks for itself at this point.

It's that time of year again. Turning another year older means age is just a number, right? I'm not doing anything crazy today (sadly I'm working rn), but hopefully I can enjoy the rest of the evening and make it into a birthday weekend, as long as RL cooperates. It could certainly be a better year for me, but I'm grateful with what I have. Since fandom has helped me a lot throughout the years, blessed me with some of amazing friends and made me who I am today, I thought I'd give back and do something simple and slightly different for this year's birthday fic rec list. Some of you follow me for Harry Potter, Teen Wolf or both (or maybe you just appreciate my dry humour, sarcasm and shenanigans, IDK). And so, here's are 14 multi-fandom and multi-ship fics that I like rereading on repeat because they're made of awesomeness. There's Drarry, Perciver, Wolfstar + rarepairs and Sterek, with the occasional dash of hurt/comfort and angst I love so very much. As always, please give these authors some love by leaving kudos and/or comments!
Maybe you'll find a new fic to add to your TBR (or ship/dynamic you want to explore more of). Check out last year's rec list for your HP fix (lol, get it?). Cheers, and happy reading!

🎉 A Journey Home by edelweissmar (Perciver, T, 28k)- Post-War, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Post-Battle of Hogwarts, Post-Hogwarts, Falling In Love, Weasley Family, Family Drama, Cute Kids, Fluff and Angst
Almost ten years after the war ended, Percy Weasley is Head of the Department of Magical Transportation and buries himself in work. It is the only way he knows to forget for a while about the mistakes he made, the family he failed, the brother he lost. Oliver Wood, once the promising keeper of the Puddlemere United, had his hand badly injured in the Battle of Hogwarts, and could never play professionaly again. But if there is one thing Oliver doesn't do, it is giving up. (Or, in which Oliver performs illegal magic on his broom and Percy, instead of having him arrested, falls in love)

🎉 that's all i'm asking. by Idnis | @idnis (Deamus, T, 20.3k)- Angst, Kissing, Spin the Bottle, Pining, Emotional Hurt, 6th and 7th year, Wizarding Wars
‘No,’ Seamus replied in a hurry. ‘No, it’s not. Come on. When’s the last time we played something stupid like spin the bottle or seven minutes?’ ‘Really?’ Hermione said. ‘That’s what you want to play?’

Sirius’ frown deepened. After a moment he murmured in a low voice, “I don’t understand you at all, Remus Lupin. Oh, but I would so very like to.” A flush crawled boiling heat up Remus’ neck as he fumbled for an answer. “Goodness Sirius ... I’m no one special.” Sirius’ gaze didn’t waver. He said simply, “I think you could be very special to me.”
🎉 quite like us by alarainai | @alarainai (Jegulus, T, 67.3k)- AU- Modern Setting, Texting, Wrong Number AU, Background Wolfstar
[18:12] Seriously, wrong number. Don’t send shirtless pictures to strangers. [18:13] Padfoot, this rejection hurts. [18:16] What’s a Padfoot? [18:17] Wait, is this actually not Padfoot? [18:19] I don’t even know what that is, but no. I’m not a Padfoot.
🎉 Leathers and Lace by doshu | @vdoshu (Flintwood, E, 7.7k)- POV Marcus, Post-Hogwarts, Professional Quidditch, Injury Recovery, anger issues, Toxic Masculinity from side characters, Misunderstandings, Idiots in Love, Getting Together, Explicit Sexual Content, Lingerie, Anal Sex, Exhibitionism, St Mungo's Hospital
Things were much less complicated when Wood played for a different team. “Fuckin’ twat,” Marcus mutters, glaring at his teammate. Wood can’t hear him, but it still feels good to say the words. He wishes he could punch the git but knows that doing so here, at St Mungo’s, when the Keeper’s out cold and there’s a Healer standing hardly three feet away, wouldn’t be one of his finest moments. No. He’ll wait until Wood’s released, and they’re back on the pitch. Not even on the pitch—the second they run into each other in the change rooms he’ll get Marcus’s fist in his stupid face.
Teen Wolf- Sterek
🎉 it took new york to make me a cowboy by piratetattoos (M, 15.2k)- Post-Season/Series 03, AU - Canon Divergence, Derek Hale Leaves Beacon Hills, New York City, Recovery, Trauma, Writer Derek Hale, Photographer Stiles Stilinski, POV Derek Hale, Healing, Slow Burn, Postcards, Vonnegut References, Long-Distance Relationship, (kind of), Poetry, Identity Porn, AU - Writing & Publishing, Photography, First Kiss, Getting Together, Inevitability, Happy Ending
After Beacon Hills, Derek heads back to New York. He doesn’t look back, lest he be turned into a pillar of salt. He leaves it all behind, a monument, a tomb, a thousand fuck ups and betrayals left to gather dust and slowly rot away to nothing. He read somewhere once, that time is cyclical, that the universe repeats over and over, and that he will be reborn and make the exact same mistakes over and over again, helpless to change anything. He thinks Stiles told him about a Vonnegut novel like that once. He doesn’t think about Stiles. (or: Derek leaves Beacon Hills, finds himself, and waits for Stiles to find him.)
🎉 Don't Talk About the Bachelor Party by snarkatthemoon | @snarkatthemoon (E, 29.5k)- AU - Canon Divergence, Post-Canon, Future Fic, Scott is a Good Friend, Deputy Stiles Stilinski, Pining, Angst, Fluff, Weddings, Stag Nights & Bachelor Parties, Emotional Constipation, Drunken Shenanigans, Getting Together, Sex, Derek Hale Deserves Nice Things, Stiles Stilinski Deserves Nice Things
“Hey look, I kinda need to run something by you,” Scott starts, sounding sheepish, “You know how I said the venue only has eight rooms?” Stiles ‘hmm’s’ absentmindedly, half-distracted by his work phone that’s pinging with emails. “Well, my Dad has decided he wants to stay the night of the wedding now, so we’ve had to make a few changes to the sleeping arrangements.” Stiles groans, throwing his work phone across the bed. He has a feeling he knows where this is going and he knows that Scott knows he’s got him backed into a corner. “Really, Stiles, we couldn’t figure out how to do it another way, and I know it’s not exactly the best timing in the world—” “Just come out with it, Scott.” “We need you to share a room with Derek.” Or, the one where Stiles tries to deny that he's emotionally constipated, there's a wedding, and no one will shut up about what happened at Scott's fucking Bachelor Party.
🎉 Hale of Heart by Nahara (E, 23k)- AU - Future, Future Fic, Witches, Falling In Love, Emissary in Training, Stiles Stilinski, Bad Poetry, First Time, Blow Jobs, OCs, Jealous Stiles, Derek Feels, Derek Hale Has a Heart
Derek’s heart is cursed into a jar (because why the hell not? this is Beacon Hills) and Stiles is an Emissary (in training) who finds himself heart-sitting for Derek. Stiles would like to make it clear that while yes, Derek did give him his heart, he obviously didn’t mean it like that, so stop making those faces, guys.
🎉 Loving You (Losing You) by whentheywrite (T, 11.9k)- AU - Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, oblivious idiots, Curses, Pixies, Canon-Typical Violence, Monster of the Week, BAMF Stiles, Protective Derek, Idiots in Love, Memory Loss, Mind Manipulation, Derek Hale Deserves Nice Things, Stiles Stilinski Deserves Nice Things, Scott McCall is a puppy, The Pack Being Idiots, slight angst, Crack, Stiles Stilinski is Derek Hale's Anchor
Derek is cursed to lose what he loves, the pack doesn't know how to react, and Stiles is concerned. Rightfully so, since nothing seems to happen. And then everything goes wrong.

so i suck at screenshotting so no pic unfortunatly but
Im playing hogwarts mystery, and and im telling Penny abt my quidditch training with Skye and theres a kid behind us who if you tap on him and give x amount of energy, one of his responses is "Of course I'm eavesdropping! You're talking about quidditch!" And my first thought was "Oliver Wood?"
Cuz like, this is smth Oliver wo(o)uld do(see what i did there( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)) so is this kid his dad? older brother? Older cousin? Uncle? Grandfather? Cuz like there is no way in my mind this kid is not related to Wood. And idk if this kids House is based on your characters House but ima Slytherin and the kid in the back is a Slytherin so it would be funny if Oliver met this dude and they talk abt quidditch and then get in an argument of Gryffindor vs Slytherin teams
(b̶o̶n̶u̶s̶p̶o̶i̶n̶t̶s̶i̶f̶P̶e̶r̶c̶y̶P̶e̶n̶n̶y̶C̶.a̶n̶d̶M̶a̶r̶c̶u̶s̶a̶r̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶a̶n̶d̶M̶a̶r̶c̶u̶s̶a̶n̶d̶P̶e̶n̶n̶y̶a̶r̶e̶a̶r̶g̶u̶i̶n̶g̶o̶v̶e̶r̶R̶a̶v̶e̶n̶c̶l̶a̶w̶v̶s̶S̶l̶y̶t̶h̶e̶r̶i̶n̶a̶n̶d̶P̶e̶r̶c̶y̶i̶s̶j̶u̶s̶t̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶l̶i̶k̶e̶😑)
and at the end of me explaining my quidditch training,Skye comes out of no where after i say "Skye only cares about winning the House Cup and probably thinks that i can win that Cup" or smth along those lines. Sounds like a certain Wood with a certain Potter...(im obvi sayin that Skye and Wood might be related as well,so Wood's family could be famous through Skye's so yea. Imagine if Oliver didnt know and he starts fanboying over and Percy gotta calm him,Clearwater and Flint down bc they are obvi quidditch fanatics)

Necessary Monsters (1/16)
Summary: His first instinct is to pull her flush against him, and his second is to push her away to disguise his desire for the first. Neither seem appropriate for the setting and Felix settles for reaching a single arm around her to pat her back carefully.
No one at Hogwarts, staff or student, can remember a more heated build-up to the Quidditch Cup. The final match may be between Slytherin and Gryffindor, but the tension has set the entire school on edge. Even the professors have been caught playing sides. McGonagall has neglected to assign homework to Gryffindor the week leading up to the match, and there's a rumour Snape has excused the Slytherin team from Potions classes to fit in extra, secret trainings.
When the long-anticipated day finally arrives, students begin filing into the stands before breakfast to ensure they have decent seats, and by mid-morning there isn't an empty space anywhere. The stadium itself seems to vibrate with the collective anticipation.
It does not escape the notice of the more observant older students that the spectators appear to be evenly divided into crowds of red and green. Some people sport both colours simultaneously. A match like this would usually show the rest of the school united against Slytherin, the seats filled with red and gold and roaring lions. But enthusiasm for Slytherin is at an all-time high. Its Quidditch team is enjoying a popularity the house has not seen since before the first Wizarding War. For once, the palpable tension has little to do with which houses are playing and more to do with the players themselves.
Because it isn't just Gryffindor versus Slytherin, it's Weasley versus Windsong.
Both sixth years and captains of their respective teams. The former commonly believed to be the best Seeker ever trained at Hogwarts and the latter famous for her aerial acrobatics and ability to play any position with ease. Efforts by the opposite houses to knock each out of the running has forced both to travel with an entourage for the last month. An entourage that more often than not includes each other as it's a well-known fact that Charlie Weasley and Juniper Windsong are not only Quidditch rivals, but close friends.
The teams walk onto the pitch to tumultuous applause, the two captains coming to face each other on either side of Madam Hooch. They're surprisingly close in height, and the grins they flash at each other, hidden from most of the spectators, are genuine, if competitive. They shake hands, the teams mount their brooms, and the sound of Madam Hooch's whistle is drowned by the roar of the crowd as the players soar into the air.
The game begins, and Felix Rosier isn't sure he's ever been so nervous in his life. Which is ridiculous, he tells himself. He's faced down furious, fire-breathing dragons; why on earth should something as silly as a school Quidditch game have his heart thumping violently in his chest?
He grips his knees tightly as he watches the Slytherin Chaser identified as Skye Parkin by commentator Murphy McNully tear off down the field with the Quaffle. She performs a complicated little flying manouevre that confuses the Gryffindor Keeper and earns the first goal of the game. The stands erupt. Felix realizes he's dizzy from holding his breath. He exhales forcefully and reminds himself that he's not invested in the outcome of this match.
"Relax, friend, what will happen will happen. What can we add to the match by worrying?"
Felix cuts his eyes across to the young man next to him. It's been a few years, but he recognizes the disheveled hair and unshaven chin of recently graduated Slytherin Quidditch Captain, Orion Amari.
"I'm not worried," Felix insists.
Orion nods. "A healthy perspective."
The crowd roars again as Skye Parkin approaches the Gryffindor goal posts at break-neck speed. Murphy McNully's magically amplified voice carries smoothly across the noise.
And will we see a second Slytherin goal in as many minutes? Parkin shoots and - No! Blocked by brand new Gryffindor Keeper, Oliver Wood!
"The new Gryffindor Keeper is well balanced, is he not? Skye will have to alter her tactics to get past him," comments Orion sagely.
Felix merely grunts in response. His focus is on the pitch, though his eyes aren’t following the progress of the Quaffle.
"You are Felix Rosier, aren't you? Slytherin's prefect from a few years ago?" Orion asks.
Felix gives a short nod.
"I heard you were in China studying dragons now?"
"Peru," corrects Felix tersely.
"Ah." Curiousity peeks through Orion’s unflappable veneer. "You know, I cannot remember ever seeing you at a Quidditch match before. Even when you were at school."
Of course, Felix thinks, it would be just his luck to be stuck beside the one person in the entire stadium more interested in conversation than the game.
"I never cared much for Quidditch. Waste of time, really," he says brusquely, hoping the former Captain will be offended enough to stop talking to him. But Orion merely nods again, face impassive.
"Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Although, yours makes it all the more unusual for you to be here."
Felix sighs. "It's an important match for... Slytherin," he says, before turning on Orion abruptly. "You've graduated as well, Amari. What are you doing here?"
"Showing support to my Quidditch family, of course," Orion replies. "We may graduate from school but we never graduate from our friends." He turns to inspect the progress of the game. "And, as you said, it is an important match. Especially for the new Slytherin captain."
Felix's heart stutters, but before he can respond the people around them are on their feet. McNully's commentary can just be heard above the renewed screams of excitement.
And Weasley dives! Is that the Snitch there on the ground? Could this match be over before it truly begins?
Everyone in the stadium, Orion included, is watching Charlie Weasley dive toward the grass below. Everyone except Felix, who closes his eyes, too nervous to look. One shaky breath, then two. The spectators burst into a mix of delighted cheers and disappointed cries.
Foiled! By the brilliant beating of Windsong and Lee!
At the sound of her name, Felix's eyes automatically. Just in time to catch a glimpse of Juniper Windsong swooping by the stands where Felix sits, as she takes a victory lap around the stadium. Felix’s stomach does a pleasant flip, and he has to fight to keep his face straight.
Everything from Juniper's wide grin to her perfect posture is exceptionally confident as she controls her Comet 260 with only her knees, both hands wielding her Beater's club. Squinting, Felix can just see Barnaby Lee opposite her across the pitch. Together, the two of them keep possession of a Bludger, hitting it back and forth to each other rapidly. Then, with a casual-looking flick of her wrist, Juniper sends it hurtling toward an unlucky Gryffindor Chaser. The Chaser dives out of the way of the Bludger, leaving the path to the goal posts wide open for Skye Parkin to score again.
"They make quite the team, do they not?"
Felix can just hear Orion's voice under the cheers and applause. He purses his lips tightly, but Orion continues as though he hasn't noticed.
"Such an easy rapport. It is indicative of true harmony both on and off the pitch. Perhaps more teams should consider choosing Beaters who are romantically involved."
"They're not romantically involved,” corrects Felix hotly. "Not anymore. They broke up last summer. They haven't been together all year."
"Interesting," Amari murmurs. Felix feels the younger man's eyes on him, but he keeps his gaze steadfastly forward.
The Slytherin Chasers make their way up the pitch in possession of the Quaffle. Felix recognises Skye Parkin's attempt to set up some sort of Quidditch play. He isn't sure of its name or its purpose, but he feels certain it does not involve a second Slytherin Chaser snatching the Quaffle away from Skye at the last minute causing a scuffle in mid-air. A Gryffindor Chaser nearby takes advantage of the confusion and swoops down on them from above. The Chaser nicks the Quaffle and tanks off down the pitch before Skye can gather herself. The red and gold waves in the stands stamp their approval.
Orion shakes his head. "That Chaser is not working in harmony with his fellow players."
Felix's eyes narrow at the offending player. "That's Marcus Flint. He's been driving Windsong mad all year. Doesn't want to take orders from a girl, apparently."
Madam Hooch's whistle rings through the Stadium calling for time out. Juniper Windsong and Skye Parkin land hard near the Slytherin goal posts, Skye ranting at the captain before her feet are even on the ground. Felix is too far away to hear any words, but it's obvious from Skye's wild gesticulations toward Marcus Flint, who has landed nearby, what the conversation concerns. Felix's jaw begins to ache, and he realizes he's been gritting his teeth.
"You know quite a bit about the inner workings of the team for someone who does not care for Quidditch," observes Orion, watching Felix instead of the players on the ground.
Distracted by the sight of Juniper now berating the sullen-looking Flint, Felix answers, "Juniper mentioned him," without thinking.
"I see," Orion says. "I did not know you were so close with our resident cursebreaker."
"We...write.” Felix’s cheeks redden in spite of himself.
"Peru is a long way to come to support a pen friend." Orion's tone is unassuming, but the heat continues to spread down Felix's collar.
"I happened to be in the country," says Felix defensively. "And, as she mentioned being nervous about the game and I had some time on my hands, I thought I'd stop by. That's all."
Orion makes no further comment as the Slytherin players return to the air. Felix steals a quick glance at his pocket watch, fervently hoping the match will not last much longer.
His hopes are dashed as another hour passes, Slytherin in possession of the Quaffle nearly the entire time. Felix is grudgingly impressed by Skye Parkin's performance. She whips between the Gryffindor players as easily as if they were training dummies, although Flint continues to be a thorn in her side. Juniper is forced to fly between them more than once to stop their in-fighting.
Usually Felix would be bored to tears by now, but he can't keep his eyes off Juniper as she flies expertly about the pitch. The way she manages to keep track of the entire game at once, occasionally calling out plays or advice to her team, all while flicking Bludgers at the Gryffindor seeker is fascinating to him. Felix knows admittedly little about Quidditch strategy, but even he can see Juniper's goal is to prevent the Weasley boy from catching the Snitch at all costs. She and Barnaby Lee shadow the fiery red-head about the pitch. No matter how fast he flies, the Gryffindor Seeker cannot seem to shake the Slytherin Beaters.
The fourth time Charlie Weasley spots the Snitch, the little gold ball is fluttering near the same stands in which Felix and Orion sit. Felix has a perfect view of Juniper as she bats a Bludger directly at Charlie's outstretched hand. In the split second he withdraws to avoid breaking any fingers, the Snitch disappears. Juniper grins cheekily at the furious Seeker, and Felix's stomach somersaults again.
Well folks, we're an hour in, and the score stands at 160 points to 40 for Slytherin! Seems like Gryffindor's usual strategy of relying on a quick win by Weasley just isn't working for them this time! Felix can detect a note of glee in McNully's commentary.
Tensions in the air have reached a fever pitch, and Felix has to stop himself from wringing his hands visibly in his lap. Marcus Flint seems to have elected himself Slytherin's enforcer.  He abandons any attempts to score in favor of knocking into Gryffindor players who fly too close to Skye Parkin. The third time he does this, the unfortunate Gryffindor Chaser nearly falls from her broom, and Madam Hooch calls a foul. Felix watches Juniper fly right up next to Flint, grabbing his Quidditch robes by the collar and speaking fiercely into his face. Felix wishes he were close enough to hear what she's saying. He can guess, from the way Flint yanks his robes from her grasp and flies off angrily, it isn't encouragement. Felix runs his fingers through his hair nervously.
Play resumes as the Gryffindor Chaser shoots a penalty shot and scores. The cheers from the crowd have only just begun when a collective gasp ripples through them. Charlie Weasley rockets upward, lying flat against his broom for extra speed. At the far end of the pitch, Juniper hits one Bludger and then the other frantically at the Seeker who manages to dodge both.
"It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter," Felix mumbles under his breath as Weasley stretches his arm above his head, fumbling for the tiny gold ball.
Out of nowhere, Marcus Flint smashes into the Gryffindor Seeker's side, knocking him from his broom entirely. Weasley doesn't fall far before his arm is caught by a teammate, but the Gryffindor fans in the audience howl in outrage.
Foul by Slytherin Chaser Flint! There's Madam Hooch's whistle and it's a penalty shot for Gryffindor - but wait! Looks like Slytherin Captain Windsong has called for time-out.
The green-clad players swoop toward the ground. Felix watches Juniper stalk over to Flint, anger in her every movement. In spite of the distance between them, Felix fancies he can hear Juniper shouting at the rogue Chaser, who bellows right back. Flint is a good head taller than his Captain, broader as well, but Juniper squares up against him undaunted. She points a furious finger across the pitch to the changing rooms. Flint shakes his head, lips moving rapidly. Their argument lasts one tense minute before Flint, snarling, shoves Juniper away from him, hard.
Felix is on his feet without realising, blood pounding in his ears. He's not alone. The stadium around him appears to have exploded. Down on the grass, Barnaby Lee and another Slytherin player drag Flint away from Juniper, herself now restraining a shrieking Skye Parkin. Some primal instinct orders Felix to get to the pitch to assist, the fact that there's nothing he can do having no bearing whatsoever. It takes all the self-control he possesses to force himself to return to his seat.
Madam Hooch lands in the middle of the fight, blowing madly on her whistle. Felix's eyes widen as he recognises Snape crossing the pitch toward the scuffling team, as well. There's a few minutes heated discourse between the Slytherin Head of House and his Quidditch Captain before Juniper breaks away, breathing hard. She holds a swift, secret conversation with Skye, their heads bent close together, then she hands her Beater's bat to Madam Hooch and signals her team to remount their brooms. All except Flint. Felix watches, mouth hanging slightly open, as Snape escorts the furiously railing Slytherin boy back across the pitch and into the changing rooms.
And it looks like Windsong has booted Marcus Flint from the Slytherin team and is taking his place as Chaser! Slytherin will now be one player short for the most critical match of the entire year! A bold move for the new captain.
"Can she do that?" Felix asks, stunned, as the team waits for Madam Hooch's whistle to resume play.
"If she has done it, then it can be done," answers Orion mystically.
Felix brings a hand up to trace the long scar running down the side of his neck. He feels ridiculously helpless. He wishes vainly that he had never come to the match. If he'd had any idea how stressful Quidditch could be, he would simply have caught up with Juniper afterwards, and spared himself this torment.
The game begins again in earnest, and if Slytherin had a monopoly on the Quaffle before, it's nothing compared to now. Between Skye and Juniper, the Gryffindor Chasers barely have a glimpse of the ball. Slytherin gains another 30 points in less than ten minutes.
And Slytherin is now up by enough to win the match even with a Gryffindor Snitch capture! One has to wonder how this will affect Weasley's strategy...
It's obvious even to Felix that the Gryffindor Seeker has slowed his incessant circling of the pitch.  Presumably, he’s waiting until the Chasers score more points, but it seems unlikely Gryffindor will ever catch up. While Oliver Wood manages to save about one in three shots at the goal posts, the Gryffindor Chasers cannot manage to wrest the Quaffle from Skye and Juniper. Although, Felix thinks he can detect a slight lag in the Slytherin Chasers' movements. He wonders if the lengthy game hasn't begun to tire them.
At 300 points up for Slytherin, the spectators begin to be restless. The buzz of scattered conversations can be heard amid the regular cheers.
"Is this a typical length for a Quidditch game?" Felix directs the question at Orion, and the young man gives his enigmatic smile.
"There is nothing typical about a Quidditch match. Each is unique," he replies knowingly, before adding: "This one is rather long, though."
Sudden shouts in the crowd around him cause Felix to look up. He’s in time to see Weasley dive once more, just in front of his stand. As Felix watches, Barnaby Lee zooms forward, Beater's bat poised to aim a passing Bludger at the Seeker, but a shrill whistle distracts him before he can execute the attack. Half the players on the pitch, and Felix in the stands, follow the source of the noise to the Slytherin Captain. Juniper hovers near a goal post, shaking her head frantically at Barnaby.
Felix furrows his brow, confused. "What, does she want Weasley to catch it?" he asks incredulously.
Orion's smile blossoms into something less mysterious and more genuine. "Charlie Weasley is a good friend of Juniper's. Perhaps, she wants his team to lose with dignity."
Felix's face twists in distaste. "Or perhaps she just wants the game to be over," he argues, as Charlie snatches the golden blur hovering just above the ground.
"That too," Orion agrees, and the stadium around them erupts.
Supporters of both sides are screaming and crying. Felix finds himself on his feet with everyone else, caught up in the wave of adoring Quidditch fans applauding uproariously. He watches the Slytherin team hit the ground, brooms forgotten as they reach for each other in a giant, scrum-like embrace. Felix realizes the back of his robes are soaked through with sweat as though he too has been flying nonstop for hours.
Students swarm from the stands like locusts to surround the new Hogwarts Quidditch champions. Felix is just considering whether or not to attempt pushing through them when he catches sight of one lone, green-clad figure moving against the crowd. Juniper forces her way through the ecstatic Slytherins to the end of the pitch where the Gryffindor team has landed, slightly more subdued. Charlie Weasley's bright red hair is visible even from high in the stands. Felix can make out the Gryffindor's reluctant grin as he extends a hand toward the approaching Slytherin. Juniper ignores it. She pulls the short, stocky boy into a tight hug, and Felix's stomach, writhing nearly non-stop for the entire match, suddenly turns to lead.
Beside him, Orion says into his ear, "So, what do you think of Quidditch now?"
Felix scowls, unable to rip his eyes away from the spectacle below him.
"Absolutely pointless," he grumbles.
-
In spite of her scene on the pitch and its obvious implications, Felix decides it would be a phenomenal waste of time to have endured such a painfully long match without seeing Juniper after all, so he joins the throng traipsing from the Quidditch Pitch to the Hogwarts' dungeons. Although it has been a few years, Felix is sure he's never seen the Slytherin common room so crowded. It's impossible to see to the wall opposite, the room is so tightly packed with cheering, jumping bodies. He's certain there aren't this many people in the whole of Slytherin house. Sure enough, Felix catches a glimpse of Penny Haywood and another Hufflepuff girl with spiky pink hair passing out Butterbeers and talking animatedly.
"What in Merlin's name are Hufflepuffs doing here?" Felix mutters to no one in particular.
"Quidditch has a way of bringing people together." Felix rolls his eyes hugely as he recognizes Orion's mellow voice from beside his shoulder. "As does Juniper Windsong."
Felix bristles but says nothing. It's true, Juniper's friend group has always been diverse. It's a trait he usually admires in her, but Felix isn't well-disposed to her inter-house friendships just at present. He has only a moment to brood over this, however, before enormous arms grab him from behind and lift him off his feet.
"Felix!"
He recognises the enthusiastic voice of Barnaby Lee. The muscular boy gives Felix another hard squeeze before lowering him back to the floor.
"Nice to see you too, Barnaby," Felix gasps, winded by the rib-crushing hug. He straightens his robes and glances around self-consciously. Quidditch team members are filing in behind Barnaby, and Felix's heart skips a beat as the crowd around them gives an enormous cheer. But it's only Skye Parkin entering the common room with the Quidditch Cup held above her head.
"What are you doing here?" asks Barnaby excitedly. "I didn't know you were back from China!"
"Peru," Felix corrects, attempting to scan the players behind Barnaby as casually as possible. "And yes, I arrived today."
"Just to see us play?"
Felix fixes his gaze on the extremely tall, well-built young man in front of him. Barnaby has grown-up significantly since the last time Felix saw him, but he hasn't lost any of his boyish good-looks. Felix recalls Orion's comments about Barnaby and Juniper from the Quidditch match, and his already bad mood continues to sour.
"No, of course not," he replies curtly. "I've applied for a transfer to the Romanian Reserve. My interview is next week."
"Wow! That's amazing!" Barnaby's face is full of awe, which soothes Felix's temper very slightly. "But... how did you know we had a match today?"
Felix repeats his now practiced excuse. "Juniper mentioned it in her last letter, and, as I was in the country in time, I thought I'd drop by."
"So, she doesn't know you're here? C'mon, she'll be so excited to see you!" Barnaby grabs Felix by the wrist before he can reply and wades into the sea of bodies, pulling the former prefect in his wake. Felix is careful to stand as close to Barnaby as possible to keep himself from being swallowed by the crowd. He isn't usually bothered by cramped spaces. He's spent the last three years in a variety of tight quarters. But something about the heat and noise and sweat from the excited bodies around him makes him feel dizzy. He closes his eyes, allowing Barnaby to drag him forward, and so he hears Juniper before he sees her.
"Look, I warned him all year. If he wasn't going to be a team player then he wasn't going to play on the team."
Felix’s eyes snap open automatically. A cluster of people in festive green face-paint block his view, many of them busy loudly protesting Juniper's words.
"Weasley would have caught that snitch without Marcus! He saved the game!" says one petulant voice.
"That's how Slytherin plays! It's about doing anything to win!" insists another.
All pretense of nonchalance abandoned, Felix cranes his neck over Barnaby's shoulder. He’s just able to glimpse the back of Juniper's head. Her hair falls in waves, much longer and more kempt than he remembers.
"Look, no one wants to win more than I do!" she argues, and Felix swears he can actually hear her smile. "Well, except maybe Skye."
There's an outburst of appreciative laughter from her audience.
"But cheating is a cop-out," Juniper continues. "It means someone else is really better than me and I couldn't beat them on my own. I told Flint, I wanted us to win because we were the best or die trying, but cheating to make that happen is just the same as losing."
"Yeah, and it's nothing to do with the fact that it's Weasley he knocked about," says a sly voice from somewhere in the crowd.
The outcry around her is divided into loud cheers and raucous laughter, but Barnaby's voice cuts through them.
"Juniper! Juniper, look who's here!"
Barnaby steps aside just as Juniper's head whips around. Her eyes widen in recognition as they fall upon Felix. He has a split second to worry whether he should keep his face neutral or attempt a smile, before she flings her arms around his neck, dragging him into an eager embrace. Felix's first instinct is to pull her flush against him, and his second is to push her away to disguise his desire for the first. Neither seem appropriate for the setting. He settles for reaching a single arm around her to pat her back carefully.
Juniper pulls away, leaving her hands resting on his shoulders. She's grown quite a bit if she can look him in the eye while doing that.
"You're here! I can't believe you're here!" she babbles excitedly, her face transported by her wide smile. She laughs giddily and hugs him again, and as Felix inhales that familiar aroma of lavender and something else he can't identify, all his ill-feeling evaporates.
However entangled she may be with anyone else, Barnaby Lee or Charlie Weasley, it's suddenly as meaningless to him as Quidditch. Her scent, her arms around him, her body pressed up against his, all confirm for Felix what he's suspected for the past year: he's in love with Juniper Windsong. And he's come back to Hogwarts with the express purpose of telling her so.

With the Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw match done and dusted, it was soon time for the second Quidditch match of the season, and Artemis’ first ever time playing for the Hufflepuff team.
The match was to take place at eleven on the following Saturday morning, and at breakfast, there were a fair few visitors to the Hufflepuff table. Tulip Karasu and Andre Egwu both hugged Artemis warmly, with the latter kissing her on both cheeks, before they sauntered back to the Ravenclaw table, and Barnaby Lee wished Artemis luck extremely loudly considering that the match was against his own house. He looked as if he didn’t understand why he was subjected to several dirty looks on his return to the Slytherin table. Finally, Ben Copper and the Weasley brothers came over to bid Artemis luck, all three of them briefly sitting down to engage in conversation with the Hufflepuff girls.
“Are you not feeling nervous?” Ben asked, fidgeting slightly in his seat.
Artemis shrugged, her mouth too full of toast to speak. She did have some butterflies in her stomach, but she was unsure whether those were due to excitement, nerves, or a mixture of both. Ben looked more anxious about the match than she did.
“She doesn’t need to be,” Bill said, ruffling her hair with his hand - the one that wasn’t currently holding Penny’s, their near-argument the week before having been all but forgotten. “She’s been taught by the best, after all.”
He nodded his head in the direction of his brother Charlie, who half-smiled as he poured himself a glass of pumpkin juice, his cheeks slightly pink.
“Look, he’s all shy,” grinned Tonks, and Charlie batted her hand away as she attempted to either pinch his cheek or poke his dimple, they never found out which. “Nah, seriously, last match was epic. The way you caught the Snitch just in the nick of time… Bonkers.”
“Well, I didn’t have much choice,” shrugged Charlie. “Not when Ravenclaw took out our Keeper five minutes into the game.”
“How is your Keeper?” Rowan asked.
“Wood? Yeah, he’s fine now. Nasty, though. Took him a good week to wake up, and it was his first ever game, poor guy. I mean, it’s Quidditch, these things do happen…” Charlie’s sentence tailed off as he became aware of the way Artemis was looking at him, and he cleared his throat before continuing, “Not today, though. Obviously. You’ll be fine.”
Artemis pulled a face at him.
“Nice save,” she said, and Charlie became suddenly very interested in his glass of pumpkin juice. “Maybe you could play Keeper next time.”
Having finished breakfast - Artemis having eaten noticeably less than she normally would - they all made their way down to the Quidditch pitch, where Penny, Tonks and Rowan took their places in the Hufflepuff stands, and Artemis joined the rest of the team in the Hufflepuff tent.
She quickly changed into her Quidditch robes, which were only a little baggy for her. Artemis had always been short and skinny, but the number of hours she had spent practising flying over the past two months had changed her frame slightly. She was still small, but now she was less scrawny, and more wiry, and the robes fit her better than she had expected them to.
Outside the tent, she could hear the crowd gather, and her heart started to beat faster. Suddenly, it all felt very real.
“Dinnae tell me that you’re scared, Hexley,” grinned Skye. “We’re goan tae batter Slytherin, ken? Nae need tae fash yerself.”
Artemis nodded, and Skye’s friend Lizzie gave her a small smile that was clearly meant to be  reassuring, but if anything, made her look even more nervous than Artemis herself.
Orion Amari gestured to the team to gather by the entrance to the tent.
“It is almost time for us to face our foes, but before we do, I wish for us to have a moment of vivication,” he said slowly, his fingertips placed lightly together so that his hands formed a small tent in front of his chest. “Slytherin have a very good team, however, success is not dependent on skill alone. We must act together, as well as individually, balancing our own roles with our collective goal to achieve victory.”
Not sure if she entirely saw the point of Orion’s speech, Artemis picked up Tonks’ broom and followed the team out onto the pitch. They were greeted by cheers from three quarters of the stands, and a hissing noise from the rest.
“And playing for Hufflepuff today, we have Amari, Parkin, Jameson, Gwithers, Bean, Willows, and Hexley,” the voice of Murphy McNully boomed across the pitch as the team took their starting positions and Orion shook hands with the Slytherin captain. If Orion was nervous, his face didn’t show it.
As Artemis mounted her broom and rose into the air with the rest of her teammates, she cast a look over her shoulder at the Hufflepuff stands. Straining her eyes, she could just about make out Tonks’ bright pink hair. Below her, Madam Hooch the referee opened a large wooden box, and released the two Bludgers and the Golden Snitch. Artemis glared at the Snitch as it flitted upwards, a tiny glimmer of gold shooting into the the blue sky. She kept her eyes on the little winged ball as it sped away from her, and Madam Hooch blew a whistle from the ground.
“And the Quaffle has been released,” Murphy McNully announced. “The game has begun!”
Artemis didn’t need to be told what to do. She leant forward and pulled upwards, accelerating fast in hot pursuit of the ball she’d been watching fly away from her. As she soared across the pitch, the sound of the wind whistling past her ears drowning out Murphy’s commentary, the other players on the pitch no more than blurs as she flew faster and faster, she drew nearer to the Golden Snitch. Why had everyone made such a fuss about her first match? Quidditch was a piece of cake, she’d be done with the match in-
“ARTEMIS, LOOK OUT!”
At the sound of her name being called out, Artemis’ attention was pulled away from the Snitch, and she noticed in her peripheral vision something flying straight towards her, something round and black, and heavy looking.
She swore loudly, and ducked away from the Bludger, and it soared through the spot in the air where she’d been a fraction of a second later. The crowd gasped loudly.
“Hexley moves out of the way of the Bludger,” Murphy McNully told them. “Not a moment too soon; based on that flight path, I was 98.4% certain of a collision.”
“Are you alright?” David Willows, one of the Hufflepuff Beaters, pulled up towards Artemis, who was scanning the sky once more, the Snitch having disappeared from view in the seconds that she had been distracted.
“I’ve lost it!” she said, frustrated at herself only fractionally less than she was at the Bludger.
“You can say that again.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Artemis turned and looked at Willows, but he was watching the pitch, bat at the ready.
“Well, you were so busy focussing on the Snitch that you didn’t even notice a Bludger heading straight for you. That’s mad, that is.”
“Isn’t it your job to stop the Bludgers heading straight for me?”
“Yeah, but remember what Orion said in his vivification. You can’t just concentrate on what you’re doing, you have to be aware of what’s going on around you,” he replied. “I tried to stop that Bludger, but I couldn’t get there in time. You were flying too fast.”
With that, Willows flew away, towards Orion Amari. Artemis watched as he raised his bat, and used it to hit a Bludger that was also heading in Orion’s direction, sending it towards the Slytherin Seeker instead.
Artemis sighed. David was right. She’d have to find a good vantage point from which she could look out for the Snitch, and keep tabs on the rest of the game.
“Those Bludgers are taking a shine to the Hufflepuff players today,” said Murphy. “Thanks to that quick save, though, Hufflepuff remain in possession, with Amari passing the Quaffle to Jameson, Jameson to Parkin, Parkin to Amari…”
The Chasers were making lots of small passes to one another as they flew across the pitch in formation, a Slytherin Chaser following after them, trying and failing to intercept. As they drew closer, Skye aimed the red ball at one of the three large hoops, but the Slytherin Keeper caught the ball before it could go through the hoop.
“Nyoka makes a very good save, there. The score remains ten-nil to Slytherin,” announced Murphy. Artemis realised with a jolt that she’d missed Slytherin’s goal. “Nyoka passes the Quaffle to the Slytherin Chasers. Slytherin in possession.”
The Slytherin Chasers were fast, though Artemis could see that their technique was very different to that of the Hufflepuffs: the Slytherins kept hold of the Quaffle for as long as possible, passing to a team mate only when they were in danger of having the ball stolen from their grip or being hit by a Bludger. Between them, they carried the Quaffle back across the pitch to the Hufflepuff goalposts, and threw it to the hoops. Just as Alex Gwithers, the Hufflepuff Keeper, went to save the goal, one of the Slytherin Beaters flew towards him, bat at the ready, and swung at a nearby Bludger, sending a second ball in his direction.
“Gwithers dodges the Bludger,” shouted Murphy McNully, as the Slytherins cheered from the stands, “but misses the Quaffle. It’s twenty-nil to Slytherin!”
The Quaffle was picked up by Skye, who passed it to her friend Lizzie. The Hufflepuff Chasers took the Quaffle back to the Slytherin goal, where it was once more saved by Nyoka. Meanwhile, the Beaters of both teams were furiously trying to keep the Bludgers away from their own players and towards their opponents. One Slytherin Chaser dropped a Quaffle after a Bludger nearly struck her in the head, Slytherin got another goal past Gwithers while he was distracted by another, and Bean the Hufflepuff Beater saved Skye from an assault from both Bludgers in quick succession.
“Parkin emerges unscathed, and passes to Amari, Amari passes to Jameson, Jameson shoots, and yes, that’s a goal to Hufflepuff!” Murphy struggled to sound impartial as he announced the goal. In the stands, the Hufflepuffs were cheering and clapping, and Artemis took both hands off her broomstick to applaud the goal. “That takes the score to ten points for Hufflepuff, Slytherin still on thirty! But it looks like Slytherin might be about to win - their Seeker’s got eyes on the Snitch!”
The Snitch! Of course - in her determination to pay attention to the match, Artemis had forgotten all about searching for the little golden ball, and now, the Slytherin Seeker was speeding across the pitch. Artemis surged into action, accelerating hard to catch up. Her eyes following her rival’s flight path, she saw the dancing spot of gold in the distance.
“Come on, come on,” she muttered, willing Tonks’ broomstick to go faster. The gap between her and the Seeker was closing, but she was still too far away to catch up, her opponent was approaching the Snitch, their hand outstretched, and it was too late, they were going to -
“Ouch!” Murphy’s voice echoed across the pitch as the crowd gasped.
Artemis winced: a Bludger had collided at high speed with the Slytherin Seeker’s shoulder, and they had been pushed way off course. The Seeker raised their other arm, and the Slytherin Captain called a time out.
“He’s got tae be out of play,” said Skye, flying to Artemis’ side. “That’s a nasty whack he got there. Just as well, what dae ye think yer playing at, just watching the bloody game? Ye have a Snitch tae catch, ken?”
Artemis pursed her lips, and Madam Hooch blew her whistle.
“It appears that a Bludger from Bean has completely incapacitated the Slytherin Seeker,” Murphy announced. “This means that Slytherin are going to have to increase their lead considerably if they are to have even the smallest chance of winning. This game might be about to get 100% more brutal!”
Murphy wasn’t exaggerating. As soon as the Quaffle was re-released, the Slytherin Beaters started to become even more aggressive, and the Hufflepuff Beaters soon followed suit. Watching for the Snitch was proving incredibly difficult for Artemis, as one Slytherin Beater seemed set on keeping her distracted, while the other targeted the Hufflepuff Chasers. Artemis dodged two Bludgers successfully, and Willows saved her from a third, aiming a Bludger at the Slytherin Keeper, who flew behind a goalpost to dodge it, shouting instructions to the Slytherin Beaters.
Suddenly, two Beaters were flying towards Artemis at once, both bats raised, but when they both swung at the same Bludger simultaneously, it wasn’t her they aimed at. The Bludger flew threw the air like a cannonball, hitting Bean in the side of the ribcage as she raised her bat to defend herself. Artemis heard a crack and a dull thud, and Bean slid sideways off her broomstick, plummeting to the ground.
“Arresto momentum!” Madam Hooch called out, wand raised, and Bean’s falling body slowed down, gently coming to a stop on the grass of the pitch.
“Another time out has been called,” Murphy shouted, “and… yes, that’s another player out of the match.”
Hovering a few feet above the ground, Orion beckoned Artemis and Willows, the remaining Beater, down to join him.
“The Slytherin Beaters are likely to try and prevent Artemis from finding the Snitch whilst they attempt to gain a substantial lead,” he told them. “Willows, you concentrate on keeping the Bludgers away so that Artemis may continue her search without distractions.”
The two of them nodded, and flew back into the air as Madam Hooch threw the Quaffle upwards once more.
Now that she effectively had her own personal bodyguard to watch out for Bludgers, Artemis was able to concentrate better on looking for the elusive Golden Snitch. Blanking out the Chasers and the Keepers, the commentator and the crowds, she focused once more on scanning the pitch for a flash of gold, any flash of gold. Eventually, she saw it, hovering around five metres from the ground near the Gryffindor stands. Keeping her eye on the Snitch, she flew over to the stands as quickly as she could without David Willows falling behind. The Snitch had moved in that time, and was now higher in the air. She smiled. An easier dive, then. She made sure David was still guarding her from the Slytherin Beaters, moved her hands forward on the handle of Tonks’ broomstick handle, and pushed down.
Down she dove, towards the Snitch, flying faster and faster as she approached it, eyes narrowed, weight forward, hand outstretched. She was nearly there now, just another foot or so and then she -
“Yes! She’s done it! Hexley catches the Golden Snitch!”
The rest of Murphy’s spiel was drowned out by the Hufflepuff crowds’s cheers, and the sound of a blue haired girl shouting as she soared towards Artemis, who still held the Snitch tightly in her right fist.
“Ye wee stoater! Ye did it!”
Skye threw her arms around Artemis, who tried not to laugh as the Snitch’s tiny wings tickled her palm.
Triumphant, the team returned to the changing rooms, Orion Amari bringing up the rear. Of all the players, he seemed the least happy about their victory.
“Cheer up, Amari,” Skye said, slapping him on the back. “We won, didn’t we? Mon then, all of yous. Let’s go back tae the Common Room. I fancy celebrating.”
Chatting excitedly, the rest of the team hurried to get changed and made their way to the exit of the tent.
“Aren’t you coming?” Lizzie asked Orion, who was hanging back. He bowed his head slowly.
“I shall be along shortly,” he said. “I would like to take a moment to reflect on the match when the pitch is empty. Hexley, could I have a word while the crowds clear?”
Artemis nodded and stood facing him, her arms crossed in front of her chest as Lizzie picked up her kit and left the tent.
“Nice catch, by the way,” she said to Artemis as she walked past her. Artemis grinned at her.
“Nice goal,” she replied. Turning to Orion, the smile slipped from her face as she saw the look on his. “You think I did a bad job, don’t you?”
“I do not think you did badly,” Orion said gently, his face calm. “However, you need to learn how to direct your focus.”
“I know,” Artemis sighed, “David told me I was concentrating on the Snitch too much, so I started watching everything else and… well, I kind of stopped thinking about the Snitch because I was thinking about that instead.”
“That was clear. Artemis, why do you think I like us to begin every practice by standing on one leg?”
“To work on our core strength?”
“To find balance,” Orion replied. He brought his hands in front of him, fingertips lightly pressed against each other. “Physically, and mentally. Today you were off balance because you were too focused on your quest for the Snitch, and then, when you corrected yourself, you leant too far the other way. Does that make sense?”
“Yeah, it does,” Artemis nodded. “Well, I’ll try and find a proper balance next match, I guess.”
“You might want to find yourself a broomstick of your own before the next match, too,” Orion said. “But for now, go and find yourself a drink. I think you’ve earned one.”
Artemis smiled, and left him alone to his reflection.
It seemed that Artemis had a lot she needed to find at the moment; she still hadn’t searched her brother’s research room for anything that might give Madam Rakepick more information on the next Cursed Vault.
To speed things up, she asked Bill to come and help her, to which he agreed, knowing fully well how much Beatrice’s incarceration was affecting Penny. When she arrived on the seventh floor of the castle, she wasn’t the only one. Bill had been accompanied by his brother Charlie, who apparently had wanted to help.
“I guess the more of us who go looking, the more likely we are to find clues quickly,” Artemis reasoned, and Charlie shrugged in response.
Neither of the two Weasleys had been inside Jacob’s room before, and both brothers seemed fascinated by the various objects and scattered rolls of parchment.
“That’s interesting,” said Charlie, more to himself than anything, as he skimmed over a set of hand-written notes, complete with diagrams.
“What’ve you found?” Artemis asked him, leaning in to read over his shoulder.
“Well, this text is all about dragon scales, and the weak points on a dragon’s body. You see, their hide is naturally spell-resistant.”
“Right,” Artemis tilted her head and wrinkled her nose at him. “How is that relevant?”
“I didn’t say it was relevant, I said it was interesting.”
“Tell you what, Charlie,” Artemis said, a grin spreading across her face, “you keep looking for something useful, and if you find anything about dragons you can keep it and read it later. Deal?”
“Deal,” said Charlie, half-returning Artemis’ smile. The two of them shook hands, and he pocketed the parchment about dragon hide. “Exactly what are we classifying as useful, anyway?”
“If it mentions the Vaults, or curses, or portraits, that’s a good place to start,” Artemis said, picking up a notebook and flipping through the pages. “Oh, and keep an eye out for black quills. Sometimes Jacob used to transfigure his notes into them.”
“Why didn’t you say that before?” Charlie asked, lifting up the parchments he’d been skimming through, and picking up a black quill. “This was on top of the dragon scroll. I just assumed that was what Jacob had been using to write it with…”
He held out the quill to Artemis, who grabbed it and pointed her wand at it.
“Reparifarge!”
The black quill disappeared, and in its place on top of Artemis’ outstretched palm lay a folded sheet of parchment. Artemis unfolded the parchment to reveal a series of runic markings.
“Bill,” she said, beckoning him over, “can you translate these for me?”
Bill frowned at the parchment for a few moments, before nodding his head slowly.
“I says something about a picture.”
“A portrait!”
“It definitely could be. It also says something about an entrance, a hunt - or a search, maybe -  and a friend. So, a friend is looking for a way into a portrait, perhaps,” Bill pointed at the final symbol. “Not sure how that one fits, though.”
“That one means something to do with fire, doesn’t it?” Artemis asked. She was sure that she had seen a similar rune before in Ancient Runes class.
“Yeah, it means ash or ashes.”
“Maybe he’s talking about his friend Duncan,” Artemis suggested. “I’m sure Duncan’s surname was Ashe.”
“Duncan Ashe,” Bill pistols up straight and frowned slightly. “I’m sure I’ve heard that name before.”
“He was my brother’s friend that died,” Artemis told him, and at the same time, Charlie said:
“He’s the ghost that haunts the prefects’ bathroom.”
“What?” Artemis stared at Charlie in disbelief, and Bill nodded his head in recognition. “Since when?”
“Since he died, I guess,” shrugged Charlie. “He’s alright, actually, once you get over the fact that he’s haunting you while you take a bath…”
“You’ve talked to him before, then?”
“A bit.”
“Can you introduce me to him?” Artemis asked. “He might well know more about the portrait curse, or about this entrance into the portrait.”
“And he was friends with your brother,” Bill agreed. “Even if he wasn’t looking for this entrance himself, he might have an idea what Jacob was doing.”
“Exactly. We need to find out what he knows.”
The three of them went straight to the Prefects’ bathroom. Despite having been a prefect for over two months now, Artemis had not yet used her exclusive bathroom privileges. It was a long way from the Hufflepuff dormitories in the basement to the fifth floor of the castle, and besides, she was still conscious of upsetting Rowan over her prefecture. Surely, no bathroom could be worth the inconvenience or fuss?
She immediately reconsidered that final thought the second she stepped foot in the prefects’ bathroom. The bathroom was easily three times the size of any of the others in the castle, with a beautiful stained glass window depicting a mermaid, bright dots of light cast on the white marble by the sun streaming through the coloured glass as she flicked her hair and tail. Much of the floor was taken up by a bath that was more like a small swimming pool, with multitudes of golden taps lining its edges.
Bill and Charlie led Artemis, still taking in her surroundings with her mouth agape, to a set of toilet cubicles at the far end of the room.
“Duncan,” Bill said, knocking on the door to the cubicle furthest from the bathtub, “are you there? We want to have a chat.”
A translucent face appeared over the top of the cubicle door. Wide eyes were set in a chiselled, pointed frame, a mop of straight hair threatening to fall in front in front of the visage, hiding it from view entirely. The face was familiar to Artemis, she’d seen it before in the photos Jacob had shown her when he returned from school for the holidays, and had stuck to the wall of his bedroom in their house in London. It was Duncan.
Duncan looked at the three of them warily over the top of the cubicle door.
“What do you want to talk to me for?” he asked, eyes narrowed in suspicion.
“We wanted to ask you about the Cursed Vaults,” said Bill. “It’s my understanding that you might have been helping Jacob Hexley look for something to break one of the curses.”
“What’s it to you if I was?”
“Well,  Jacob was Artemis here’s brother and-”
“You,” said Duncan, interrupting Bill and turning his attention to Artemis. “You’re Jacob’s sister.”
“I am, yeah.”
Artemis hadn’t been sure what reaction she would get from Duncan when he learned about their relationship to Jacob, but it definitely wasn’t the one she got.
Duncan’s eyes met hers, and the look in them grew dark and angry. A moment passed in silence, before he flew straight through the cubicle door and descended on her.
“This is all your fault!” he shouted in her face, his own contorted with fury, “How dare you come here and talk to me about Jacob, after what he did to me? After what both of you did to me? I ought to kill you!”
“Woah, steady on!” Bill stepped up in between Artemis and Duncan. He tried to put his hand on Duncan’s shoulder to pull him away, but it went straight through the ghost’s chest, and Duncan flinched  slightly.
Artemis frowned as she watched Bill’s arm slip through the ghost as if he weren’t even there.
“How are you going to kill me if you can’t touch me?” she asked. Bill and Duncan both turned to look at her. “What? You can’t, can you? Can he?”
Bill and Duncan didn’t say anything, but when she looked over her shoulder at Charlie, he shook his head.
“Why do you want to kill Artemis, Duncan?” he asked, almost conversationally. Bill gave him an incredulous look, which he ignored, continuing to look at Duncan with an expression of mild curiosity.
“Because if it wasn’t for her, I’d still be alive,” replied Duncan, still glaring at Artemis, his face inches away from her own. “Her and her brother. Jacob” - he almost spat out the name - “was a nasty piece of work. He was a liar, and a thief, and an evil piece of-”
“Shut up!” Artemis had heard enough. She squared up to Duncan and shouted back at him. “My brother was none of those things. He was a good person. He is a good person.”
“Your brother killed me!”
Duncan’s words echoed through the prefects’ bathroom, bouncing off the white marble walls and ringing in Artemis’ ears. She lowered her gaze, stared blankly at the Slytherin prefect badge on the front of Duncan’s translucent chest, and shook her head.
“No,” she whispered. “That’s not true. It can’t be… Jacob would never kill anyone.”
“You don’t know Jacob like I knew Jacob,” said Duncan, menacingly. “He’d have done anything to get into those Vaults. He betrayed me,” he turned his attention to the Weasleys, and added, “and if you two know what’s good for you, you’ll get as far away from her as possible before she does the same to you.”
“That’s not going to happen,” said Charlie, shortly, “but thanks for the advice. What about this entrance into the portrait Jacob mentioned you were searching for?”
“Why should I tell any of you anything about what I was searching for?”
“Because, Duncan, there’s an eleven-year-old girl stuck in a portrait right now,” said Bill, his arms folded across his chest and an expression on his face that was nowhere near as calm as Charlie’s. “Maybe you’d like to help us get her out instead of having a go at Artemis for things that aren’t her fault.”
“We’re just trying to free Beatrice,” Charlie said, as Duncan opened his mouth to snap back at Bill. “What you know could really help us do that.”
Duncan glared at Bill and Artemis, before giving Charlie a curt nod of his head, his hair flopping forward and back again as he did so.
“Fine,” he muttered, “but I’m not doing this for her sake.”
He gestured at Artemis again, and she made to argue, but Charlie made eye contact with her and blinked. She shut her mouth and held held her tongue, her chin jutting forward in silent protest as Charlie continued to talk to Duncan.
“Thank you. You were looking for an entrance into a portrait, is that right?”
“No,” said Duncan, shaking his head. “The entrance wasn’t to get into a portrait, the entrance was a portrait.”
“What do you mean by that?” Bill asked, his eyebrows furrowing. Duncan sighed.
“What I said. The portrait was the entrance to get into the next Cursed Vault. I was looking for the portrait so we could get inside.”
“Did you find it?” Artemis asked, before she could stop herself.
“No, your brother saw to that.”
“So you have no idea where it is now?”
“Didn’t say that. I didn’t find it, but I found someone who did. They’d already sold it on, though.”
“Who to?”
“Some trader. Black market chap. Name of Fletcher,” said Duncan. “Mundungus Fletcher. No idea where it is now, though.”
“That’s helpful as it is, Duncan,” said Charlie. “If we find anything else we need help with, we’ll come back, alright?”
“It’s alright if you come back,” Duncan said. “Not her though.”
“Fine. I don’t want to come back and talk to you, anyway,” Artemis muttered, glowering at Duncan, who returned her sullen stare.
“I meant what I said,” he told Bill and Charlie, not taking his eyes off Artemis. “Don’t trust her. It’s all her fault.”
With that, he flew over their heads into the bathtub, and down the plug hole, without explaining himself further.

weasley-wood family headcanons because i'm having THOUGHTS
they're weirdly proper. like it's percy "fancy pants perfect prefect" weasley's fault but oliver and the kids just go along with it.
they live on a beach. or like. above a beach. basically they have a lot of land for flying and such
oliver has secret handshakes with all of the kids. percy pretends to think this is stupid (he's secretly jealous)
bc of percy their vibes with the weasleys are off and percy and oliver try their absolute hardest to make sure the kids don't notice, especially when they're young
lots of family time. whether they're baking, making dinner, flying, watching a movie, etc., they love spending time together
oliver and the kids bring out the chaos in percy
percy is head of the dmle and his family is THE weird one at ministry parties
percy is beefing with seamus finnigan (one of his co-workers) and is trying to get his family to back him up. they refuse to
percy and oliver are BOTH the emotional ones. unless it's about quidditch then oliver is definitely the emotional one
oliver's most complicated handshake is with the kid that doesn't play quidditch (he's not sure how else to bond with them)
they definitely make bets on who their kids are going to date (they also definitely try to set their kids up on dates so they'll win)
lucy dates seamus's son. percy nearly passes out when he finds out. then he finds out he owes oliver 20 galleons and he does pass out
teddy and albus come over ALL THE TIME, teddy has started leaving clothes in the guest bedroom and albus's assignments are all over the house
percy once flirted with the conductor of the hogwarts express to distract him from leaving on time since the potters were late and oliver was laughing so hard he had to leave without percy
they spend a lot of time with penny & marcus's family yeah but also with penelope's sisters' families
(this is how the kids learn about muggle stuff)
they're ALL clean freaks... except katie (the youngest) and it pisses everybody off so much
they play hide-and-seek a lot. idk. they just do
the first time penelope & her sisters took them to pride percy got drunk
lucy, like oliver, likes to draw and sometimes they'll just sit together at the kitchen table and draw for hours
(they'd totally do that challenge where you swap canvases/paper every 5 minutes. you know the one)
they all love each other sm actually. probably the healthiest of all the next gen weasley families lol

October Writing Challenge - Day 21
Tumblr media
“‘It’s flown into the woods’ he said,” Lizzie Jameson’s voice sounded through the thick undergrowth of the Forbidden Forest, “‘I’m a great Seeker, we’ll have it back in a minute’, he said.”
She snorted as she ducked under the branch that was swinging into her direction. “I should have gotten you a watch for Christmas.”
“Will you stop now?” Charlie Weasley sighed. “Try catching a Snitch without a broom in the undergrowth, and then we can talk.”
Lizzie raised her eyebrows and clambered over the fallen tree Charlie had just hopped over. “Why would I? Am I the Seeker, or are you?”
They had been wandering the Forbidden Forest in search of Charlie’s lost Snitch for a while now. Lizzie had given him the Snitch for Christmas, and they had been playing with it while working in the creatures’ reserve; it had been all fun and games until the snitch had made an unexpected turn and escaped into the darkness of the woods.
At first, Charlie had been pretty confident they would find it and get back to their work quickly, but as it turned out, Lizzie had chosen a particularly evasive Snitch for her best friend; they had been chasing after it for the better part of an hour now and slowly but surely, Lizzie’s good mood was dwindling.
“I can get you a new one,” she suggested for probably the third time. “Really, I don’t mind. I doubt we’ll get our hands on that one again.”
“No way,” Charlie said with determination, “at this point, it’s a question of honour. And besides,” he added with a grin and nudged Lizzie with his elbow, “isn’t taking a leisurely stroll with me the most delightful thing?”
Lizzie sidestepped him and stuck her tongue out. “About as delightful as an extra class of Potions.”
Charlie dipped his head back and laughed. “Admit it, sunflower, you’re going to miss this.”
Lizzie sighed and buried her hands in her pockets. “You know, I actually will,” she said quietly and glanced around the Forest.
They had come to a part of it that was familiar to her; she and Charlie had often wandered along this particular path running along a small brook during their seven years at Hogwarts, just chatting, laughing, and talking about everything on their minds.
“Can you believe that in a few weeks you’ll be off to Romania and I will be trying out for professional Quidditch teams?” Lizzie asked. The thought was still too strange for her to grasp properly.
“It’s surreal, isn’t it?” Charlie agreed. “Knowing that the first last times are around the corner. The last time on the Quidditch pitch, the last classes, the last time going to the reserve.”
A melancholy mood threatened to take hold of them, and Charlie quickly changed the subject to drive it away.
“Do you already know which clubs you want to try out for?” he asked. “The Magpies must be high on your list, Orion is there after all.”
“He is,” Lizzie said evasively, a strange tone in her voice. “But Montrose is a hard place, I’ve been told, and I haven’t decided yet. I have several offers, but many tryouts overlap, so I’ll have to select my favourites beforehand. Skye is going to Wigtown, obviously, that’s definitely a legit option.”
“You and Parkin, I’ll never get the hang of you.”
“Sometimes, I’m not sure I do either,” Lizzie laughed. “Anyway, I had hoped the Catapults would ask, but they’re only looking for Beaters this year, so Caerphilly is unfortunately out of the question,” Lizzie shrugged.
“Wherever you’re going to end up, I’m sure you’ll turn the League upside down, Snidget,” Charlie said. “And if not, you always know where to find me if you do decide to try out for the most superior position after all. I’m always happy to teach a new -”
His laugh was cut short when Charlie tripped over a root crossing their path; he stumbled and swayed for a moment, before crushing face first into the brook beside them.
Lizzie gasped but her shock quickly turned into laughter when Charlie emerged from the water again, his red hair hanging into his face and small water plants sticking to the crown of his head.
“Yes, I’m sure everyone is burning to learn that dive, Coach Weasley,” she giggled and shrieked when Charlie splashed cold water in her direction.
“What was that for?” she asked indignantly, but Charlie wasn’t listening to her.
His hand had shot up quick as lightning and closed around something hovering above his head. With a grin, he turned his closed fist and presented the gleaming Golden Snitch in his hand.
A smug grin stole onto his face when he saw Lizzie’s baffled expression.
“You were saying?”

Note
Someone found a model for Oliver Wood which is cool, but it seems really early to worry about making him just yet? So yeah, new characters are really likely to be introduced. I think they're gonna focus on those 4 for now (even though I'd rather have less Skye too) And I'm curious as to how Andre being here is gonna have a role. And Charlie will hopefully make an appearance soon enough as well. Idk about each house having a rival, Rath seems to be the main one for now. Maybe in season 3 though?
Oh my goodness! I would honestly love to see Tiny Oliver Wood, especially if they bring in Charlie at the same time as a kind of mentor relationship. But you're right, if Quidditch is starting in Year Two, Oliver is about nine years old...
Frankly, this is just further proof that retroactively starting the Quidditch storyline in Year Two has fucked the canon into oblivion 😂
I just hope they're willing to work around Charlie and Andre being exclusive to certain houses. Honestly, just put Liz and Diego in their place for Slytherin and Hufflepuff. Who says they couldn't play Quidditch? If Penny can be a fan, so can they, and goodness me do they need more screentime...

HC List #4-Wands
Wand HC’s! Mostly focused on the wood since there’s more variety than with the cores.
Also if you have any suggestions for Ismelda, Skye, or Murphy please tell me, because I don’t have their characterizations down as well and I’m not 100% sold on my choices for them!
Rowan
Hornbeam “with a single, pure passion, which some might call obsession (though I prefer the term ‘vision’), which will almost always be realised.”   Unicorn hair
I had a lot of trouble with Rowan. I considered, duh, rowan wood, and I believe the former head writer said Rowan had a rowan wand, but I think hornbeam fits. Rowan has a clear ‘vision’ and goals with which to get it, so it seems fitting.
Ben
Black walnut “If the witch or wizard is unable or unwilling to be honest with themselves or others, the wand often fails to perform adequately and must be matched with a new owner if it is to regain its former prowess. Paired with a sincere, self-aware owner, however, it becomes one of the most loyal and impressive wands of all, with a particular flair in all kinds of charmwork.” Phoenix feather
This is sort of inspired by someone who had done a wand wood post then deleted it :’) Anyways, there’s the good at charms bit (Ben’s specialty) but also it just fits Ben’s narrative. He is not someone honest with himself and that affects how he lives his life hugely, so a wand that reflects this problem makes sense. Then a phoenix feather core, because again, Ben’s problem is he has a lot of talent but is held back by himself. If he were to shake off his fears, i think itd be a good match .
Penny
Alder “not stubborn or obstinate, but often helpful, considerate and most likeable.” “whence comes its reputation for being suitable only for the most advanced witches and wizards.” Unicorn hair
Saw the first quote and was immediately like Penny! Then saw the second quote and knew it was Penny’s wand wood. Unicorn because she’s pure .
Merula
Red oak “You will often hear the ignorant say that red oak is an infallible sign of its owner’s hot temper. In fact, the true match for a red oak wand is possessed of unusually fast reactions, making it a perfect duelling wand.” Dragon heartstring
She fits that first part. hot temper, a good dueler, fast reactions, all very Merula. And she pairs it with dragon heartstring for extra power and ease to do darker spells.
Bill
Poplar “‘If you seek integrity, search first among the poplars,’ was a great maxim of my grandfather, Gerbold Ollivander, and my own experience of poplar wands and their owners tallies exactly with his. Here is a wand to rely upon, of consistency, strength and uniform power, always happiest when working with a witch or wizard of clear moral vision.” Dragon heartstring
It’s like Penny, I saw the description and immediately went Bill! Literally everything about that description fits Bill very well. Dragon heartstring, as its considered to do more powerful spells. As for some hc’s, I feel he’s one of the few Weasley’s to get his own wand just because he’s the oldest so he kind of gets everything new.
Tulip
Dogwood “Dogwood wands are quirky and mischievous; they have playful natures and insist upon partners who can provide them with scope for excitement and fun.” “when paired with a suitably clever and ingenious witch or wizard, can produce dazzling enchantments.” Dragon heartstring
I wavered between giving dogwood to Tonks and sycamore to Tulip but in the end I put dogwood for Tulip because I saw “clever and ingenious” and immediately thought of Tulip over Tonks (not that Tonks isn’t clever, but Tulip is more proud of her cleverness). Plus I thought of a wand much more known for mischief would delight her in rebelling against her parents. (I know the former head writer said her wand is meant to be cherry wood and a hand me down from her grandmother, but I like Tulip having her own wand. Fits with her sense of independence better.)
Tonks
Sycamore “The sycamore makes a questing wand, eager for new experience and losing brilliance if engaged in mundane activities.” “As may be deduced, the sycamore’s ideal owner is curious, vital and adventurous,” Unicorn hair
Like with Tulip above, both could fit either girl, but certain words made me choose these woods. for Tonks, it was the use of “curious” and “adventure.” Tulip rebels to break rules, but Tonks just likes fun and adventure, so this felt a better fit.
Barnaby
English oak “A wand for good times and bad, this is a friend as loyal as the wizard who deserves it. Wands of English oak demand partners of strength, courage and fidelity. Less well-known is the propensity for owners of English oak wands to have powerful intuition, and, often, an affinity with the magic of the natural world, with the creatures and plants that are necessary to wizardkind for both magic and pleasure.” Dragon heartstring
Another one where I instantly put the wood to a character. With perhaps the exception of the “intuition” bit, every part just screams Barnaby. Loyal? Yes. Strong? Yup. Courageous? Deffo. Loyal again? Mhm. Affinity for natural world? Totally. And dragon heartstring for extra power.
Ismelda
Yew “Yew wands are among the rarer kinds, and their ideal matches are likewise unusual, and occasionally notorious. The wand of yew is reputed to endow its possessor with the power of life and death, which might, of course, be said of all wands; and yet yew retains a particularly dark and fearsome reputation in the spheres of duelling and all curses.” Unicorn hair
I had a lot of trouble with Ismelda. This probably isn’t what i’ll settle on tbh but it’s good enough. It’s sort of like her. Has a dark reputation but is much lighter on the inside.
Charlie
Ash “Those witches and wizards best suited to ash wands are not, in my experience, lightly swayed from their beliefs or purposes. However, the brash or over-confident witch or wizard, who often insists on trying wands of this prestigious wood, will be disappointed by its effects. The ideal owner may be stubborn, and will certainly be courageous, but never crass or arrogant.” Unicorn hair
Charlie does have a canon wand for this period, which is Ron’s wand. Probably coincidentally, but the ash tree description fits him well, so I do like to think that the second wand he gets after he graduates was also ash. And a hc note, I like to think the wand Ron had was also a hand me down to Charlie. No way that wand got that bad in only 7 years, even if Charlie is a bit rough and tumble. Plus if it was a personal wand, why would he give it away? So, yea, he graduated, got enough money for a new wand and Ron received his old one.
Andre
Spruce “The spruce wand requires a firm hand, because it often appears to have its own ideas about what magic it ought to be called upon to produce. However, when a spruce wand meets its match – which, in my experience, is a bold spell-caster with a good sense of humour – it becomes a superb helper, intensely loyal to their owners and capable of producing particularly flamboyant and dramatic effects.” Unicorn hair
I had a hard time with Andre, but this called to me best with him. I thought adjectives like ‘bold’ ‘good sense of humour’ ‘flamboyant’ all fit well with him.
Jae
Redwood “redwood wands are not themselves lucky, but are strongly attracted to witches and wizards who already possess the admirable ability to fall on their feet, to make the right choice, to snatch advantage from catastrophe.” Dragon heartstring
I struggled a lot with Jae unable to decide if I wanted him to have Redwood or Fir. He always had dragon heartstring, but I couldn’t decide on a wood type. I liked them for pretty much the same reason in that both have an emphasis on coming out on top despite the odds which I think fits Jae. Anyways, I eventually picked redwood because I just liked the description in regards to Jae better aha.
Badeea
Walnut “Highly intelligent witches and wizards ought to be offered a walnut wand for trial first, because in nine cases out of ten, the two will find in each other their ideal mate. Walnut wands are often found in the hands of magical innovators and inventors; this is a handsome wood possessed of unusual versatility and adaptability.” Unicorn hair
I had another one originally, but “innovators and inventors” just fits Badeea much better than what I originally had. Not much else to say.
Liz
Apple “They are powerful and best suited to an owner of high aims and ideals, as this wood mixes poorly with Dark magic. It is said that the possessor of an apple wand will be well-loved and long-lived, and I have often noticed that customers of great personal charm find their perfect match in an applewood wand. An unusual ability to converse with other magical beings in their native tongues is often found among apple wand owners” Unicorn hair
One I took from that post mentioned above as I was rather stuck on Liz. But I do feel it fits. Liz is a Slytherin but is against the idea that Slytherin = dark, so that bit fits, plus she’s all about the magical beings and I wouldn’t be surprised if she was good at speaking mermish and such.
Diego
Red oak ”In fact, the true match for a red oak wand is possessed of unusually fast reactions, making it a perfect duelling wand. Less common than English oak, I have found that its ideal master is light of touch, quick-witted and adaptable, often the creator of distinctive, trademark spells, and a good man or woman to have beside one in a fight. Red oak wands are, in my opinion, among the most handsome.” Unicorn hair
So this is the same as Merula, but I feel he fits the second half of the description while she fits the first. A dueler, quick witted, I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a distinctive spell, and Im sure he agrees that his wand is as handsome as him. He however has a unicorn core as hes much lighter and nicer than Merula.
Talbott
Chestnut “The wand of chestnut is attracted to witches and wizards who are skilled tamers of magical beasts, those who possess great gifts in Herbology, and those who are natural fliers.” Phoenix feather
There was another I considered entirely bc it had like “mysterious loner” in it, but honestly this one sentence screamed Talbott to me. Like, he’s mentioned being great at comc, loves herbology and is one of the best in the class, and I would definitely say he’s a natural flier lol Now with chestnut wands, they change a lot depending on the core. But the description mentions only unicorn hair and dragon heartstring alongside specific descriptions, while the one above is standalone. So I’m assuming its meant to go with phoenix feather, which I would’ve given him anyways. Bird core for a bird boy.
Chiara
Willow “Willow is an uncommon wand wood with healing power, and I have noted that the ideal owner for a willow wand often has some (usually unwarranted) insecurity, however well they may try and hide it.”  Dragon heartstring
It took me a while to decide between willow or hawthorn, both of which mentioned healing and insecruties. Eventually I decided on willow entirely because it’s a paler wood and fits her whole silvery aesthetic.
Bea
Fir “There is no doubt that this wood, coming as it does from the most resilient of trees, produces wands that demand staying power and strength of purpose in their true owners, and that they are poor tools in the hands of the changeable and indecisive.” Phoenix feather
While Bea has a big change, I wouldn’t call her changeable considering she’s sticking with her new style and outlook. And I would call her a survivor. Poor girl’s survived a lot already and she’s only 12. : (((
Skye
Spruce “which produces wands that are ill-matched with cautious or nervous natures, and become positively dangerous in fumbling fingers. The spruce wand requires a firm hand, because it often appears to have its own ideas about what magic it ought to be called upon to produce.” Dragon heartstring
I used this for Andre, but I feel it fits Skye too. She’s very brash and confident (or appears that way) so I feel she would have that firm hand needed.
Murphy
Ebony ”Ebony is happiest in the hand of those with the courage to be themselves. Frequently non-conformist, highly individual or comfortable with the status of outsider” Unicorn hair
Murphy is very open about how he is who he is, so even though he isn’t an outsider, I feel he has that “courage to be themselves” bit down.
Orion
Beech “The true match for a beech wand will be, if young, wise beyond his or her years, and if full-grown, rich in understanding and experience. Beech wands perform very weakly for the narrow-minded and intolerant.” Unicorn hair
Yet another one where I read one sentence and was like oh that’s them.

Magic
1st wand: Ash wood, 12 1/2 inches, phoenix feather core, great for transfiguration, nice and swishy
The ash wand cleaves to its one true master and ought not to be passed on or gifted from the original owner, because it will lose power and skill. This tendency is extreme if the core is of unicorn. Old superstitions regarding wands rarely bear close examination, but I find that the old rhyme regarding rowan, chestnut, ash and hazel wands (rowan gossips, chestnut drones, ash is stubborn, hazel moans) contains a small nugget of truth. Those witches and wizards best suited to ash wands are not, in my experience, lightly swayed from their beliefs or purposes. However, the brash or over-confident witch or wizard, who often insists on trying wands of this prestigious wood, will be disappointed by its effects. The ideal owner may be stubborn, and will certainly be courageous, but never crass or arrogant.
2nd wand: Ebony wood, 13 inches, dragon heartstring core, brilliant for dueling, very flexible
This jet-black wand wood has an impressive appearance and reputation, being highly suited to all manner of combative magic, and to Transfiguration. Ebony is happiest in the hand of those with the courage to be themselves. Frequently non-conformist, highly individual or comfortable with the status of outsider, ebony wand owners have been found both among the ranks of the Order of the Phoenix and among the Death Eaters. In my experience the ebony wand’s perfect match is one who will hold fast to his or her beliefs, no matter what the external pressure, and will not be swayed lightly from their purpose.
Boggart: herself, but as a death eater
Riddikulus form: being surrounded by friends, who have her back
Patronus: Black Raven
As a patronus a black raven represents knowledge, they carry intelligence and quick wit, matching perfectly with Ravenclaw. You find extreme comfort in those with intelligence and knowledge of past events, and how to handle new things calmly and with poise. You tend to have some moments of a delicate, sensitive side that comes out of them in times of fear or sadness.  You tend not to always a leader, but a follower because they know that others may have more experience or wisdom than them, but if you know you are the most intelligent, knowledgeable or wise, you take the reigns and lead the way. In the same way the owner of this patronus will give up leadership, to a wiser leader, they will do the same in a multitude of different situations. Despite this, you are very brave and cunning, but in other areas, when you do take leadership, you are a strong-minded and focused leader, you never let you guard down, even if you are scared or confused. You carry an extreme amount of knowledge with you at all times, waiting to find a use in the correct situation. This patronus matched with Ravenclaw, means that you are able to think of creative and innovative ideas for the better of the team, even when you are not the leader.
Patronus memory: When Andromeda and Ted accepted her as their own daughter. She realised that she did have a family who loved her and cared for her.
Animagus: a small Black Raven
Amortentia (what they smell like): old books, chocolate, a tad bit of cinnamon, coffee and lavender
Amortentia (what they smell): a library, petrichor, grass, cinnamon, and a very strong woody cologne
✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦
Magical Abilities:
Legilimency and Occlumency:
Legilimency is the act of magically navigating through the many layers of a person's mind and correctly interpreting one's findings. A person who practices this art is known as a Legilimens. Muggles might call this "mind-reading," but practitioners disdain the term as naïve. The opposite of Legilimency is Occlumency, which is used to shield one's mind from the invasion and influence of a Legilimens.
Occlumency is the act of magically closing one's mind against Legilimency. It is ancient, and has existed since medieval times.[1] It can prevent a Legilimens from accessing one's thoughts and feelings, or influencing them. A person who practices this art is known as an Occlumens.
Favourite spells: Bombarda, Legilimens, Expecto Patronum, Reducto
✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦
School:
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Organizations joined: Hogwarts, Circle of Khanna, The Order of The Phoenix
Apprenticeships: worked as an intern at the Ministry of Magic for a while, and helped Madam Pomfrey in the Hospital Wing with Chiara
Professions: Auror for a while, took a break after a bad injury and ended up teaching at Hogwarts for a year, and then became an Alchemist.
Best Subjects: Transfiguration, Potions, Flying, Charms, Astronomy and DADA
Worst Subjects: Herbology, History of Magic, Divination.
Extra curricular activities: Keeper of the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team, sometimes tutors first years
✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦-✦
Relationships:
Fuck her blood family, she's a part of the Tonks family now
Edward "Ted" Tonks
He might not be her father, but he sure is her dad. Muggle born Ted taught Ammie how to mess around with muggle tools, and introduced her to muggle movies and other random trinkets. He thinks of Ammie as his own daughter, and was the one who taught her how to ride a bicycle
Andromeda "Meda" Tonks (née Black)
Andromeda took in her niece when she had nowhere to go, treated her like family, and protected her from all sorts of danger. Provided love, care and support to Ammie during her traumatizing times. She was considered as a blood traitor, but that didn't stop her from saving her little niece
Nymphadora "Dora" Tonks
Ammie's sister, and best friend. Stood by her side for everything and supported her all the way. Provided comic relief and loves Ammie to death. With a stupid sense of humor, and a knack for creating mischief, she's Ammie's most beloved person
Jacob Black
The one who started it all. The idiot who got himself stuck in a portrait. All of this garbage began with him, and Ammie never lets him forget it. Very protective of his little sister and hates everyone for some reason
Misc family members: Sirius Black, Regulus Black, Walburga Black, Orion Black.

HP FESTS: Dramione Height Difference
Dramione Height Difference 2020:
Arithmancy and Quidditch by grace_lou_freebush - E, one-shot - Hermione and Draco are partners on an Arithmancy project during their eighth year, but Draco fails to meet up at their agreed upon time. When Hermione finds him down at the Quidditch pitch, she just might change her mind about how upset she is." She hadn't seen him up close in his Quidditch kit since second year, and the sight made her snap her jaw shut and swallow. Her eyes trailed from his massive hands and his covered forearms up to his square shoulders. His emerald green robes fit over his light pads snuggly and hung like a second skin down his slim torso. Quidditch robes were designed to be trim, without excess fabric, for speed and agility, and Hermione was reaping the benefits of that now. At the waist, the robes parted to showcase the tight trousers he wore to cover his lower half. The white fabric almost glowed in the twilight, and shadows at his groin left little to the imagination as the fabric bunched at his hips, creating an impressive display of his package. He'd slowed down as he approached the locker rooms, and Hermione drank her fill of his body before snapping her eyes up to see his face lit by the lamp at the Slytherin entrance."
The Borrower by magical_traveler - T, one-shot - Malfoy looked up at her and scowled. “What have you done to me, Granger?” he squeaked. His face grew red as he heard his voice and he glared at Hermione. He began to pace in the seat of the chair. Hermione began giggling.
Chains by Aneiria - E, one-shot - 'Draco,’ Hermione crooned, making her voice sound as soothing as possible. She reached up to wrap her hands in his soft blond hair, tugging firmly to try and force him to look down at her. His hands were holding her tight around her waist, almost meeting around her middle, but he looked over her head to where the official was now lying sprawled on his back. ‘Look at me, Draco,’ she tried again, tugging his hair harder. Finally he tore his eyes away and looked down at her, still breathing heavily. Hermione gasped when she saw the usual silver of his irises had brightened to an ethereal blue, his pupils narrowed into elongated slits.‘Oh, Draco…’ she breathed, concern building in her as she reached up to stroke his cheek. Draco purred and rubbed his face against her palm. ‘We need to get you home.’
Fun Sized by EarlGreyPanic - E, one-shot - Hermione gets hit by one of Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes famous "Fun Sized Spray" and lost a couple of inches of her height. She decided to make the best of it and use her height for some "fun-sized" activities. Posted for Musyc's Dramione Height Difference Mini-Fest
Height by SenLinYu - E, one-shot - “Tall? That’s what you think I should notice about Malfoy? His height?” Ginny quirked an eyebrow and licked the tip of her quill suggestively. ”Well, isn’t that your thing? Lockhart. Krum. McLaggen. Ron. The only thing they have in common is being tall enough to give me a neck ache.” Hermione felt her ears grow hot, and she gripped her book tighter. “I don’t have a thing for tall men. Their height is—completely coincidental.” Dramione Height Differences Minifest 2020.
"I will always catch you" by Takingflight48 - E, one-shot - "A huff drives out of my open mouth as he slides me up into the ceiling, but I have little time to consider logistics as his mouth is gliding up my right thigh, hot and needy." Malfoy's do not wait for anyone. That has not changed, a fact Hermione was banking on as her hunk of a man takes her to heights unknown.
The Longer The Wait The Sweeter The Kiss by hslades - E, one-shot - “I’ve missed you so much,” Hermione whispered in the crook of his neck, a few tears running down her cheeks, wetting the skin of his neck. “I was so worried.” “Shhh, it’s okay,” Draco assured her, running his large hands down her hair. “I’m safe, I’m home now.” Draco has been away on a mission for the resistance longer than expected. Hermione longs for him to get back to her safely.
Ministry Business or Minister's Pleasure by mxstyassasxin - E, one-shot - When Minister For Magic Hermione Granger drops her children off at Kings Cross for another year at Hogwarts, she has two problems on her hands. One, her imminent divorce from another third of the Golden Trio and two, the fallout from her removal of funding for a certain blonde's research project. The first is a given: Her marriage just hasn't been the same since Hugo started Hogwarts, since the emptiness became much more obvious. The second though? Maybe she can use the free time she suddenly finds herself with to help in some way...
Mismatch Miracle by diamonddaydream - T, one-shot - For Dramione Height Difference Mini-fest 2020. Hermione Granger always seems to make the first move, but only because Draco Malfoy is always already there.
One Moment in Time by PixieKisses - E, one-shot - Uncertain as to what her life held now that Voldemort was gone, Hermione heads up to her favourite place at Hogwarts. However, she's not the only one to seek sanctuary within the walls of the library. Can a moment of curiosity bring them clarity, or are they destined to be ill-fated for the rest of time?
Perfect Fit by granger_danger - E, one-shot - “What’s the height difference like, when it comes to sex?” Ginny waggled her eyebrows suggestively. Feeling eyes on her neck, Hermione looked up to find Draco staring at her from across the room. He appeared to be multitasking; while chatting amiably with Harry, he was also sending her a secret message with his gaze, another psychic missive detailing how her dress, lovely as it was, would look much better on his bedroom floor. “You know I don’t kiss and tell.” Hermione lifted her chin and fluffed her hair, grinning like the cat that got the cream. “But it does have … certain advantages.” *A fluffy, funny, filthy smut-biscuit written for Musyc's Dramione Height Difference Mini-Fest 2020 and featuring a tol!Hermione and a smol!Draco*
Persephone's Adjustment by riane_b13 - M, one-shot - Hey Mom! I’m so excited to see you and dad again. I just got the approval to get two weeks off so I’ll be home for Christmas through New Year's Eve. I can’t believe it’s really been a year since I’ve seen you. There’s so much that has happened since then. Ginny and Harry have finally set a date for their wedding. You would think that after seven years of dating Ginny would’ve forced him down the aisle. Molly almost did. The Harpies set their schedule to start spring season March 1st so they decided on February 1st. That way they have time for a honeymoon before Ginny starts back up training. Unfortunately for me, I need to find a new place to live. You can only imagine who practically demanded I move in.
The Peruvian Strike by ExpositorRevan (Naydras) - E, one-shot - The Wimbourne Wasps experiment with Quidditch innovation under Oliver Wood’s tutelage. Wood, desperate to defeat his former team the Schemers of Skye, enlists casual ballerina Hermione Granger to whip his inflexible chaser into fighting form. Porn with a side dish of plot. Dramione
Restricted Rendezvous by Musyc - E, one-shot - Draco looked up from his book in the library and caught her staring at him. Deliberately, he met her eyes. She looked down, her cheeks turning a soft pink. He folded his hands under his chin, waited until she looked at him again, then dragged the point of his tongue across his bottom lip. Draco follows Hermione into the Restricted Section.
Shifting Perspectives by Misdemeanor1331 - E, one-shot - Being a woman in a male-dominated profession is hard; being a woman and below average height is even harder. Fortunately, Hermione Granger has developed a strategy to counteract these unconscious biases. Unbeknownst to her, Draco Malfoy has noticed and formed his own opinions on the matter.
Untidy Souls by JelenaD - M, one-shot - Draco Malfoy is back for Eighth year. He wants a girl too large for her small size to get out of his head, but she’s persistent at the best of times.
This fest is closed.

" If I had to rate my panic level from 1 to 10, it’d be pi. It’s low level, but always there. "
Name: Matthew David Luther Species: Wizard Gender: Male Physical appearance: Slightly taller and thinner than average with brown hair that falls over his green eyes. Height: 4′11′’(Year 1) - 6′1′’(Year 7) Weight/Body Type: He’s tall and thin, but has no clue how much he weighs. Personality: Matthew is sensitive to other people’s feelings and is very good at reading people, although he is constantly doubting himself. The one thing he is sure of himself in is his intelligence; he is constantly calculating and mentally notes almost everything around him. This comes in handy in a place as confusing as Hogwarts: it may take a bit, but Matthew can always put the pieces together. Date of Birth: 16th February 1973 Blood Status: Half-blood (Wizard Mother, Muggle Father) Family Info: Lucia Doherty was a powerful pureblood Ministry Witch who met and fell in love with Peter Luther, a Muggle plumber, whom she had Jacob with. When Voldemort began to rise she left and wiped Peter’s memory to keep him and their children safe, meaning he forgot about Jacob who stayed with her, but for reasons unknown Peter somehow remembered his wife and eldest son and reunited. Soon after this, Matthew was born, growing up in the Muggle world but enjoying knowledge of Wizardry. Lucia later tried to erase his memories again when the Wizarding War broke out, but Matthew found her and told her to put his father back to normal, discovering his magic in the process. Recently, things have been difficult as Peter has had difficulty finding work. When Matthew attempts to describe Thatcher to his mother, she assumes the Muggle government has been infiltrated by a hag.
He also has wizard Ancestry on his father’s side, with the famous Magizoologist Newt Scamander being his Great Uncle and Queenie Goldstein being his Great Grandmother.
Wand: Cedar wood, 14 1/2 inch, pliant flexibility Boggart: Being stuck somewhere with no way out at all. Animagus Form: Sparrow. Patronus: White Stallion House: Ravenclaw, Prefect in Year 5 Quidditch Position: Chaser Academics: Took Divination, Ancient Runes and Care of Magical Creatures into Year 3 Partners: None so far (bar that one time), but the Celestial Ball is on the horizon... Closest Friends: Rowan Khanna: Matthew’s best friend, they have been close ever since Diagon Alley. They both like working on the Cursed Vaults, as well as playing Wizard Chess and Gobstones together. Rowan is always there when Matthew needs him, and even helped him with Merula when nobody else would. Matthew, in return, helps them be more confident, as he’s aware how difficult that can be sometimes. Finally, Matthew is the only one who knows about Rowan’s huge crush on... Penny Haywood: Bonding over their skills at potions, Penny is another of Matthew’s closest allies. Matthew relies on her to keep the Hogwarts rumour mill in check, especially important considering who he’s secretly dating. Matthew did, at first, have a minor crush on her, but always maintained that he wouldn’t intrude on Rowan, which helped improve their confidence in the matter.  Barnaby Lee: Barnaby and Matthew met after Barnaby wound up in the Magical Creatures Reserve on his way to Transfiguration. They both do work with the creatures in the reserve there, sharing a love of animals. Barnaby is a great deal of help to Matthew as he can always be counted on to point out the obvious solution when Matthew starts overthinking. He’s also willing to share what happens in the Slytherin Common Room and No, it definitely isn’t so Matthew knows if Merula’s ok and No he isn’t turning red what do you mean Tulip Karasu: Matthew’s only intellectual equal. When Merula tried to get Matthew framed for stealing potions ingredients he quickly deduced that someone in Ravenclaw was working with Merula. In a rare moment of confidence he declared this to his House, leading to a Battle of Wits between the two. Tulip immediately realised how Matthew felt about Merula and worked to get them together.  Chiara Lobosca: The only girl to pull on Matthew’s heartstrings before Merula. They became friends after helping to quell the werewolf rumours, and worked together to find the Cursed Vaults. They discussed the idea of them being together (and did more than discuss), but decided that they were happier as friends. Bill Weasley: Really, the one who saved the school. Bill helped Matthew out of his shell, so to speak, and consoled him when things became really tough when it came to the Ice Vault. Together, they defeated the Ice Knight and entered the first Cursed Vault together, and went on to work together more in the future. He also was instrumental in pushing Matthew towards curse-breaking. Merula Snyde: Matthew Luther’s rival in the hunt for the Cursed Vaults. For a while, she was a bully, especially towards Ben Copper, but Matthew was able to win a duel against her and made her never pick on him again. After that, while remaining antisocial, she became more tolerable, as several threats forced the two to work together. The two are very close. They’ve shared an accidental kiss, cast their Patronus together, cared for a Thestral, and defeated many evil magical beings. Recently, Matthew has realised that he had met her before, many years ago, on the day he searched for his mother. After that, they agreed to no longer be enemies, merely rivals. Matthew has come to the conclusion that he has a crush.
Foes: “R”: The dark organisation worked to trap Jacob, thus making Matthew’s early time in school rather difficult. However, there’s more to this cabal than at first glance... Edwin the Changeling: Known as “The Bard”, he attempted to take over Matthew’s body by force, slowly moving to allow more changelings in. However, he was defeated by Matthew and Merula. Controlling, sexist, and rude to everyone around him, he appeared to have been destroyed when Ismelda Murk melted the Ice he had hidden himself in. Preston Crawford: A slimy Slytherin in Matthew’s year who seems to want nothing less than to ruin everyone’s day. Even Merula doesn’t like him, which is saying something. Erika Rath: Matthew’s only foe who doesn’t irritate him. He and Erika became Rivals as a result of being in differing quidditch teams, and this feud only worsened after Skye Parkin spread rumours that she destroyed Matthew’s broom. It’s unclear where they stand after Ravenclaw won the Quidditch Cup (especially considering she doesn’t talk much). Pets: As of Now (1987) Matthew has a pet Cat named Danny, a toad named Ribby and a rat named Jerma, and has adopted a Niffler, Porlock, Abraxan, Fairy, Thestral and Imp.
Who knows, this sideblog may go somewhere! We’ll see! Thanks to @hogwarts-misery for the template!
