Chapter 43 of The Starlight Path is up !!!

Korkie didn't know what to say as he led Luke and Din through the temple, the white sandstone and underground tunnel atmosphere not as comforting as it used to be. There were memories of days spent training with the Force in this tunnel that chased themselves around Korkie’s head. Echoes of infectious child-like laughter and Obi Wan's watchful warmth, sunlight washing the main courtyard chamber in saturated hues of beige and blue, beskar ornaments gleaming. Korkie could feel the weight of the double edged sword that was his childhood with his father for what it was, but it ached deeper now that he had found out the true extent of what his parents had endured.

Despite that fact, he held them close. The darkness surrounding the trio bayed and skittered. Korkie held the holocomm torch up higher, illuminating their path down the long hallway.

"What is this place?" Luke asked, voice quiet with awe and something else entirely. It echoed in Korkie's chest all the same, a type of sacredness about the place that was hard to put into words. Like the weight of the momentousness of the place was imbued into every grain of sand; the Force was idle and lapped at the air peacefully here. This was the only place on the Mandalorian planet that the Force behaved like this.

Smiling despite himself, Korkie felt dusty and empty- hollowed by the events of the evening. "It's a Jedi Temple."

"I know that," Luke jumped to interject. "What's it doing here? In the Mandalorian Throne room, no less."

You’ll dodge faster from the next knife blade and blaster shot to avoid it. It can brand your memory like a bruise to press upon, invoking the raw resolve to finish a job or enact vengeance. Above all, it’s another fact of life he’s had to largely deal with alone. Sometimes his brethren in the covert treated him when he came limping home, moreso in earlier years. But this is usually as insular a practice as the rest of his rituals. Even after bonding with the kid and seeing his astonishing works, it’s not something he considers changing. His love for his son expects nothing from him; he’s not going to exploit Grogu’s abilities for his own benefit, not when he’s perfectly capable of handling himself. Somehow Din forgot to factor Luke into this equation.

Mand'alor Din Djarin and Duchess Bo-Katan Kryze begin defensive discussions with the Galactic Senate, opposed to becoming involved in any outside government after so recently reclaiming their home planet. As they aim to keep Din's identity confidential, the Mandalorians hunt the rest of the Empire in the Outer Rim and attempt to avoid the New Republic's domineering presence. But Senator Leia Organa isn't taking no for an answer with peace on the line. (Oh, and of course, the clan of two reunites.)

Once upon a time, Luke Skywalker had been a hot-shot Air Force pilot, flying high all over the world. Now, he's settled into a quiet life in Taos, New Mexico, as a social worker, dealing with kids and families in need. One afternoon, his boss hands him a file - a little boy with selective mutism is being kept out of school by his parent. Luke needs to investigate and report.

- 23k words and counting. This one is a series, so each fic has its own summary. You’ll have to take my scrambled together summary here, for what it’s worth.

Din. With. Foundlings. Din keeps finding force-sensitive kids who need help and brings them to Luke to train. Number 3 is my personal favorite and features a Zabrak girl named Pavru who has my whole heart. Din is so so so soft and loving with these kids, it’ll make your heart explode. And then, in number 2, we get to see Din protecting his family and just… *chefs kiss* it’s perfection. Absolutely a must if you love found family and Luke and Din raising kids together. There’s plenty of Dinluke fluff and romance too!!! An absolutely beautiful series.

As it turns out, no one ever taught Luke how to tie a little green baby to his back one-handed, but Luke thinks he's pretty gods-damned good at problem-solving under pressure, thank you, and the baby is at least semi-cooperative. When he's sure the kid is strapped in as tight as he can get, Luke pauses, and reaches back. His fingers graze the wide point of the baby's fuzzy ear. "Well, kid," says Luke, and his voice is a little rough, but not bad, all things considered. "Carrying you on my back while getting the absolute banthashit kicked out of me, at least this feels familiar." The baby coos in his ear, and then kicks him hard in the kidney. Yoda used to do the exact same thing. Somehow, it's a lot more endearing now. Or: Luke Skywalker solves a number of life-or-death problems, makes some new friends, falls abruptly in love, and gets shot into space, all in the same day.

A Lesser-Spotted DinLuke Rec List

Hi!

I’ve noticed a lot of requests for fic recs lately (I know I’ve been wanting some!), but it seems like it’s always the same few getting recommended, and while I agree with those being good, I’ve already read those, and it feels like others have too.

So I set out on a little foraging quest with a few parameters laid down, in order to make a rec list that didn’t feature any stories that I’ve seen recommended before.

Those rules were:

1.       Completed fics only – this was for my sake as I didn’t want to be left wanting as I read these. 

2.       None of these were written by my friends, nor by me. I purposefully chose authors with whom I’ve never interacted, or at the very least, people whose Ao3 names I do not know. This list is based purely on the fic itself.

3.       No toxicity. No dark!character, no “possessive” behaviour, no SA, no rape, none of that. None. I don’t tolerate it.

4.       This is not an absolute list – and I urge you to take a deep dive into the tag. Want to avoid the Nasty Stuff? Here’s the link to the search I used, with the exclusions I used.

5.       Sorry, I didn’t rec fics that just aren’t for me and my preferences, again though, I urge you to take a look! There’s lots of treasures to be found!

Luke really wasn’t certain what he expected when he returned to Maul with the child.

Maul was a difficult person at the best of times, unpredictably violent, prone to both elegant calm and explosive fury. The idea that Maul would be anything other than hostile towards a small, disruptive little creature seemed unlikely. It was a meeting he’d been dreading the whole flight back.

It surprised Luke immensely when Maul proved to be more or less tolerant of Grogu. When Luke revealed the child, Maul simply took Grogu in his tattooed hands and fixed his yellow eyes on Grogu’s black ones.

Grogu looked back, ears low - no doubt perceiving Maul as a predator.

Luke’s hand loosened at his hip, unconsciously ready to grab his saber. Maul noticed, his gaze first lowering to Luke’s hand, and then rising to his face. His expression was flat.

“There are few depths I would not sink to,” said Maul dryly, “but not without good cause. You can relax, Jedi.”

Maul never called him Luke, of course. It was always Jedi. Sometimes, when Luke was very lucky, Maul might even call him Skywalker.

Grogu, unable to resist the temptation, reached one little hand towards one of Maul’s horns. Luke was immensely surprised when Maul bowed his head enough for Grogu to grab onto one, satisfying the child’s curiosity before he handed him back to Luke.

“It’s completely pathetic,” remarked Maul. “And I suppose you intend to train it?”

“I do,” replied Luke steadily. “I promised I would.”

I'm extremely curious about Let Grogu say fuck! My own headcanon is that Din and his friends are quite cautious an always use only dank farrik when Grogu is around. But little do they know that Grogu has learned to say fuck much earlier, from Artoo. So it will be one of his first words anyway.....

"let grogu say fuck" is already a fic i've posted a couple chapters of. it's a modern dinluke au but i'd be glad to share another snippet of a recent chapter i've written!

Grogu points to a picture of Papa, fully dressed up in a dark outfit with obnoxiously black makeup and jewelry. “Ugly. Ugly. Ugly.” Grogu points to each picture, shaking his head. Luke bursts out into laughter, followed by a sigh from Papa.  “Don’t rub it in, kid.” Grogu scrunches his nose in disgust. He blurts out a noise and throws his hands up in disapproval. He takes the album out of Luke's hands and closes it, tossing it back into the box it came from. He stands back up, grabbing the toys he left and shaking his head.  “You so ugly, Papa,” Grogu grumbles as he stomps out the room. Behind him, he can hear Luke suppressing a laugh and Papa sighing very loudly.
