If my memory serves me right, she was 20 years old when she had her Broadway debut as Christine. Which is very young for such a heavy role, which both demands a well-trained high soprano with stamina, dance and acting abilities, and doing multiple shows a week. Alright, this has some very noticeable misconceptions on what ML and AI is, so I’ll address both those and ones I’ve heard lately thrown around.

First: ML and AI are NOT EVIL. They are just tools, and can be used for some really great things. It depends on what people do with it, not the tool itself - a knife can cut food or stab someone.

Second: It’s not inherently plagiarism based, it works based on what data was fed to it. Give it data from non accepting participants - it will create plagiarized content.

Third: AI and ML ARE NOT THE SAME THING. In a VERY basic sense, ML is used to categorize incoming data based on previous categories established either by the algorithm itself or by the person who gave it the data. It “learns” how to categorize things based on their specific traits and thus find patterns - that’s why it’s called Machine Learning.

AI is, again in a VERY basic sense, the next step after ML. The data is categorized - now new data can be created based on previous conclusions reached by the algorithm. This is called “Artificial Intelligence” because it “creates” something new (as in, this specific thing in it current form did not exist before, not that it has completely unique features) based on previous findings - kinda like how a human learns from past experiences to create new things and make new decisions.

The names are reasonable (though maybe not ideal) when considering what they try to convey, but they can get really confusing for people who don’t know the specifics and cause some misconceptions.

Fourth: it was explained pretty poorly in the video, but not inherently wrong - AI cannot be sexist, racist or ableist at all, but the data fed to it could make it seem so. It will create new data based on previous data - label a picture of a sad white boy as “autistic” enough times, it will see it as the baseline for that characteristic. Add “Asian” to the prompt - it will probably give you an east Asian looking person in a similar position and composition of the first image, because it will try to fit what it categorized as “crucial” about both those labels and add information that it deems “non crucial” to fill in the blanks.

It uses what’s called “semi supervised learning” meaning it searches the labels associated with the images it takes and draws conclusions from them about non labeled images.

This is of course a recipe for some really bad labeling if the original labels are made by bigoted people - use images from AS and it will, wrongly, assume that the label that was made by humans is probably correct and therefore should be used when categorizing new data.

This is why data should be “cleaned” before it��s used - the engineer needs to modify or remove data that is likely to give skewed results - something not practiced when you just take millions of images without actually checking your sources, like they do in those art bots.

This behavior, especially when it comes to products used by the general population, is irresponsible and unethical, not to mention potentially dangerous and harmful. But it’s the behavior displayed by the engineers doing it, not AI or ML as a whole.

So, please, don’t hate the tool, hate the people who misuse it.

trans women are demonized because any connection to masculinity (even in the past) makes them "dangerous and predatory" by radfems

trans men are demonized because any connection to masculinity makes them "dangerous and traitorous" (or infantilized for being "corrupted") by radfems

nonbinary people are forced into one of these two categories because of what either of these groups perceive their "true sex" as, regardless of whether or not it's true, because "Only Two Genders" and "We Can Always Tell" (nevermind the fact that gender is unquantifiable and they can almost never reliably tell in my experience lmao) and then completely dismissed as "not real", "faking it", "dangerous", or "confused"

all forms of transphobia joined at the hip, and exist because of the same root problem: gender/bioessentialism. there are different types affecting different groups of people, and those types are separate with different consequences, but it's all the same motivation: the upholding of the strict, sex-based gender binary, which not only ignores trans people but forces intersex people into categories that often do not fit them

so when a fellow trans person tries to recreate or uphold what they were fed by a society largely created by those who wish to see them dead, my heart hurts a little for them. it's a poisonous idea that has spread like wildfire, and the only way to stop it is to construct a fireproof home, not to build a shack of wood and pray the embers have died. they haven't. they never have, and they never will so long as flammable homes keep burning down
