I really like making my hermit designs suit what i like, and molding them into silly little guys who are just a little more unique to me. Bc why not, but if i like a concept i won't shy away from sticking to a working recipe-

But now i'm at the point of struggling again because i rlly like drawing big fluffy hair. And all of ZITS (minus maybe Zed) would probably most definitely have shorter hair styles.

At the end of the day though?? Mfer i made Tango some random thing I made up as a species. He can be fluffy if i want him to be OTL

This introduces us to Martyn's character, as well as to the burdgeoning alliances currently forming (aside from Pearl and Scott, who will be focused on later; and from the Southlands, which have yet to form in the musical timeline).

(ft some anachromisms and contradictions to canon, since I know many of these alliances are formed later and don't interact with Martyn at this point, but I want to introduce them as soon as I can – there won't be time later)

Do note that the claps will be recorded in person, and that a sparser accompaniment generally means more vocal parts (which can't be heard here, since this is just the instrumental track).

Brief crash course for HBomb94 (not Hbomberguy!) + Hermits for those unfamiliar with him:

H is a MCC player and the Sands of Time VOD reviewer. He’s a core member of the MCC community and he’s why players say “Hi HBomb” before SoT

H teams with the hermits frequently to the point it’s a meme: H collects the hermits (he’s teamed with most of the MCC hermits— False, Ren, Grian, Pearl, Cub, Gem, Scar, Impulse) and he gets adopted by the hermits

In MCC, he’s known for having the “H factor” which states his presence boosts his teammates’ scores. He’s a fantastic leader and he keeps the morale up.

H is in Iskall’s Vault Hunters series— this is probably his most direct link to HC. H was invited after Ren met him when they teamed in MCC9, so yeah, that’s part of the Blue Bats’ legacy.

H is a big fan of Hermitcraft and he’s watched many hermits before— there’s more of his fanboying in his watch of Grian’s HC7 world tour

H sometimes teams with hermits outside of MCC in various e-sports events, but most of the team ups are in MCC

H was the one who predicted False popping off in Dodgebolt back in August 2020 when they hadn’t met yet

H was the team leader for MCC9 Blue Bats (H, Fruitberries, False, Ren) and he truly believed in all of them as a team even though False and Ren had gotten 9th like three times in a row, and they had an amazing legendary underdog victory. Probably the best MCC hermit victory ever (but I’m obviously biased haha).

Since then, H has teamed with the hermits many times, and they’ve won multiple times (Blue9 with False and Ren, Aqua20 with Gem, Aqua29 with False and Cub)

He played in irl MCC Twitch Rivals with Scar, Gem and Impulse (and possibly met Tango there in person)

H is a huuuuuge fanboy of the hermits in general and he’s always so proud and happy to team with them. He’s like “IT’S ME AND MY HERMITS! :D”. He’s vocally supportive and encouraging of the hermits in MCC (even when they were underestimated and seen as cannon fodder).

While H is an honorary hermit, it’s a different way from, let’s say, Skizz, because H isn’t in the Life series / Empires, he’s not a builder / redstoner— he’s like the MCC / SoT guy. He’s beloved among the MCC hermits, and the hermits and H are enthusiastic about each other.

Sands of Time and Decked Out have been frequently compared to each other, Grian even mentioned to H at the end of MCC18 that he got his ravager dodging skills from Decked Out 1

H being on HC is very exciting not only because H is a big hermit fan, he’s also not on Life series / Empires like the rest of the guests, so he has less of a connection to Tango personally, but they still invited him ^_^

You answered how each of the hoa buttercups found out about each other, but how do the other hermits react? Is there anyone oblivious to about hoa situation? (I think skizz would be, he would just think mumbo, grian and scar were the normal amount of weird and go ok to anything)

OH, what a fun question! I haven't been thinking too much about this but I'll try my best...

I think after Grian found out about Mumstache he would go straight to Iskall to complain (or maybe prank him along w Mumstache's help). Iskall would just end up laughing his ass off. Like, straight up losing it.

and then it's revealed later on that Grian is ALSO a little guy and Iskall loses it once again, he thinks this is the most hilarious shit that has ever happened ever.

For a more angsty reaction, I'm assuming everyone who knows Grian before his "ascension" AKA the Evo people would be quite mixed emotions at best. Like this guy you've known pretty well dissapears for a bit and then you meet him again and it's pretty cool except for the fact he is now some otherworldly god-thing space spaghetti who has to keep making himself new bodies cuz his old one got destroyed. Like, happy you're not dead man, but what the fuck. Anyways, angsty reunions are always kinda a given in watcher Grian stuff so!! Yeah, not much difference in there!!

I like to imagine Joel and Lizzie to be kinda grossed out by it... like imagine them seeing this weird alien brain creature and facial hair and also blue evil fairy and their face cringes and they just go "eugh..."

Stress would probably find them the cutest little thing ever.

Etho would probably be a little freaked out, i think? Like he would awkwardly just stand there looking at these totally weird & creepy creatures and pretend he's 100% okay with it. Meanwhile Bdubs would just be vocally terrified. Like screams and points whenever he sees them wandering around type thing.

anyone else thinking about an arab/Islamic traffic series AU???? Because I sure as hell am! While I'm not muslim, I am arab, and islam is everywhere around me and I haven't seen ANYBODY represent it in the traffic Life series fandom.... so I might as well create an AU.

(There will be fully Muslim people, agnostics and atheists.)

Badboys are siblings. Growing up together, Joel and Grian were always closer, sharing perhaps problematic views in Islam. Their parents being unsupportive, they cut contact as they enter college. Jimmy, who is clueless about why, is still in contact with his brothers. While he plans on keeping contact with his parents---they don't expect him to, and, naturally, the contact starts fading away.

Jimmy goes into college and reunites with his brothers. Turns out, Grian is now atheist, while Joel is still very much a muslim. A few years later, Joel gets engaged with Lizzie, a hijabi.

Lizzie was Grians best friend growing up. And she fully believe evrrybody is capable of going to heaven even if they dont believe in Allah, because he is forgiving. she also fully believes Grian will go to hell.

Grian has been very vocal about his belief in God. Not only that he doesn't exist, but that if he did, he was a fucking asshole. That doesn't stop him from being Lizzies bestie.

going into college, Jimmy meets Tango, who is also Arabic, and soon learns that he is very very gay. He comes to Grian about his struggles---worried what that could mean about his beliefs---who tells him its fine and Joel and lizzie aren't judgmental people. Joel then proceeds to stalks Tangos socials, which tells him he is also religious, so he approves of Tango. Blablabla ranchers slow burn.

Later, when tango and Jimmy are a couple, there's this white guy with blue hair who catches their eye.

Scott is absolutely crushing hard on Jimmy, but he also knows he's Muslim sk he's kinda like im pretty sure he's not gay. But Scott is very much out as gay and lizzie doesn't seem to hate his guts so he's like eh maybe those are just stereotypes,,,,,

Then he sees Jimmy and tsngo kissing and he's like okay yeah those are definitely stereotypes but there is no way I'm able to get with them now

Im also thinking about a whole lot of small scenarios,,,, like Jimmy and tsngo teaching Scott Arabic.

And and Jimmy and Tango going to "celebrate" christmas with Scott's family.

Aid witht he fam would be AMAZING, there would be badboys, scott & lizzie, and ZITS. Zedaph woluld be the one to slay the sheep (he's not muslim. For their sake, he does say "bismillah" before killing it). Skizz inniciates prayers (he's muslim). everyone that isn't praying is preparing the sheep.

Grian and Lizzie would go on full on argument about songs. Lizzie doesn't listen to music AT ALL (except when she's at like,,, parties so.) and Lizzie is fucking HATING on lyrics. For exemple, sailor song, "I dont believe in god, but i believe that you're my savior" SHE IS HATING. Grian will be defending his songs with his heart and soul. Then Scott comes around and he's like uh,,, i kinda like that song,,, and Lizzie says "its fine ur allowed but GRIAN THOUGH--" and they fight.

i made my own Life Series iceberg :)

this takes some entries from a few other icebergs i've seen around, plus a few of my own additions! i hope it's all accurate and in vaguely the correct order

here's an explanation for every entry:

LAYER ONE:

Grian owns the series: The Life Series was created by Grian, and he gets final say on all decisions relating to it.

The Helmet Rule: Lifers are not allowed to wear helmets during the series, both so other players are more recognisable and as an armour debuff.

Traps never work: There's a running pattern of traps often failing throughout all of the seasons, for a variety of reasons.

Scar's abs: There's some kind of correlation between how many lives Scar has lost and how much clothing his Minecraft skin loses.

5AM Pearl: The name commonly given to Pearl on her Red life, especially in Double Life.

Scar's Enchanter obsession: Scar almost always tries to steal the enchanting table for himself.

LAYER 2:

Secret soulmates: Refers to Grian and BigB's secret alliance during Double Life.

"SCAR NO!!!": Grian's catchphrase throughout the entire series.

Etho's skin never changes: Despite other Lifers using colour-coded or custom skins, Etho never changes his.

Jimmy's Canary Curse: Canaries are often bought down into mines to detect carbon monoxide or other harmful chemicals in the air; once the canary dies, it's a sign that there is danger in the mine. Jimmy's curse is that when he dies in the series, chaos and danger follows very soon after.

Ranchers' Revenge: The name of the Warden that Tango and Jimmy summoned to get revenge on Scar in Double Life.

All wooden structures will burn: The Lifers love arson.

LAYER 3:

Joel was Shrek: Joel's old Minecraft skin used to be Shrek, and his current skin is just a humanised version.

Pufferish of Peace: The misspelled name of the pufferfish that Grian offered Jimmy and Scott to form an alliance in Third Life.

"Go home. Go.": The words that Tango says to the viewer at the end of Double Life.

Skizz's nicknames: Skizz gives a lot of nicknames to his fellow Lifers, most famously Dippledop for Impulse or Jiggles for Jimmy.

Timmy is Jimmy: Some Lifers call Jimmy "Timmy" and can cause great confusion among the others, most notable in Last Life when Impulse thought he had been calling Jimmy by the wrong name all season.

Cupid Skizz: A headcanon that began in Double Life which claims that Skizz was the invisible force that drew the soulmates together, and is an angel/Cupid.

Crastle as a euphemism: In Third Life, Bdubs' Crastle was often called small and was joked about as a non-PG euphemism.

Easy mode left on: According to Martyn, almost every series has had the incorrect difficulty at the beginning. Most notable in Last Life, where the server was set to Easy mode instead of Hard.

LAYER 4:

Tango's rage: The moments after Bdubs' betrayal kill (Last Life) and the Ranch burning down (Double Life) in which Tango snaps.

EvilAnvil: Youtube Fancreator who creates songs based on each series, using vocal snippets of the Lifers as lyrics.

Ariosor11: Youtube Fancreator who creates videos summarising the alliances and relationships in the Life Series.

Grian's Widow Curse: Grian's allies or teammates always die before him, sometimes to his hands.

Watchers: Originally from Evo, the Watchers are a group of overruling beings who run the Life Series, effectively forcing the players to fight to the death over and over for their own enjoyment. This narrative is only apparent through Martyn's POV. This is not canon and, in Martyn's words, is more similar to a Life Series AU.

Martyn is always a traitor: In every season, Martyn betrays (or plans to betray) his closest allies.

LAYER 5:

Terry: No-one knows who Terry is. (BigB's alter-ego in Last Life when he goes into witness protection.)

Scitties: A specific image of Scar's Minecraft character, standing shirtless and with a... modified chest.

Scar's crystals actually worked: Theory with data behind it which poses that Scar's magical crystals in Last Life had a genuine effect on the player holding them.

Scott hates the Watchers: A common belief due to Scott's reluctance to kill anyone when he was chosen as the Boogeyman in Last Life. He defies the will of the Watchers, possibly out of hatred.

All winners are soulmates: All of the Life Series winners up to Real Life have been soulmates in Double Life -- Grian and Scar, Scott and Pearl, and Martyn and Cleo

LAYER 6:

"Winter is over, Spring has begun.": The phrase that Martyn planned to say after betraying Ren in Third Life after the battle of Dogwarts. It never came to fruition due to Ren and Martyn both dying in the battle.

Second Life: The original name for Limited Life which could not be used due to copyright concerns.

Listeners: A group of beings who are the opposition to the Watchers and are trying to free the Lifers.

The Full Moon Curse: Once any Lifer has pointed out that there's a full moon, the rest of the session is doomed to be tragic.

LAYER 7:

Scar's off-screen death: A cut death from Third Life which involved Scar being killed by Martyn. This was cut from the series due to it feeling awkward and not right.

Jimmy is a Listener: A theory that spawned due to the Listeners' interest and use of Jimmy during Evo. This also links with the theory that Jimmy purposefully goes out first every series to defy the Watchers as a refusal to play the game correctly.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:

Mumbo is a Vampire: I didn't include this because it's more of a Hermitcraft thing than Life Series, but it's a fun headcanon. It stems from (I believe?) Season 7, when Mumbo's skin changed to be very pale.

Grian is a Watcher: This just tied in too much to the Watcher entry, and I felt that "Jimmy is a Listener" was more interesting.

Someone has probably already made this before but I've never seen it so I made this mainly for my own convenience but I'm posting it here anyway. Some of these kills are technicalities (and others were also excluded bc of technicalities) so some numbers on this list are debatable but I tried to make it as accurate as possible

Scott: Joel - 7 (Ngl I laughed. The entire reason I made this list was for this statistic I wish more people acknowledged how comically violent scott's retaliations are against Joel's antics sometimes. Literal tom and jerry moment)

Joel: Cleo - 6 (really surprising actually. I've watched all of Joel's povs like twice and have never realized how often he killed Cleo)

Grian: Scar - 5 Jimmy - 6? (one kill is questionable due to it being the warden kill in SL so if anyone should be credited its Etho, which is why I'm still including Scar on this list)

Scar: Etho - 5

Etho: Scar - 5 (worlds healthiest father son duo)

Martyn: Tango - 4 (this number + how much their characters clash make me think these 2 would have an incredible alliance. and by incredible I mean it would crash and burn and I would love every second of it)

Two figures watch, from a nebulous nowhere, as Scar stands, alone, in the remains of his destroyed shop.

"I'm sorry," he says, mournfully, to no one.

"You Know," says the first figure, "I Really Wasn't Convinced When You Pitched This One."

Scar does not react. He cannot hear them.

"Yes," says the second, with an air of long-suffering patience. "I Do Know. You Were Very Vocal About It."

"...I really wanted to try and make some friends, this time." Scar, simultaneously right in front of them and a great distance away, sighs and looks up at the sky. "Oh, well. Nothing to be done about it now!"

"I Have Come Around To It," says the first.

"Good," says the second. "I Knew You Would."

They watch Scar start to sort through the mess.

"They Forget They Have A Choice," says the first. "It Is Fascinating."

They move on.

The move on to ash.

Skizz and Tango and Bigb stand right in the thick of it, quiet.

"You try to do one nice thing," says Skizz.

His hands curl into fists. He glares at the smoldering remains of the heart in front of him.

"You try to do ONE nice thing!" he yells, and punches one of the last remaining bits of wood.

Brittle from the fire, it breaks.

"Yeah, well! I guess this is why we don't," says Tango, resigned.

"It was always gonna happen eventually," says Bigb, voice level.

"They Always Try," says the first. "They Always Keep Trying."

"Yes," says the second. "They Chase Each Other In Circles Until All Of Them Are Dead. They Give Themselves Their Own Tasks."

"That Is Not What I Meant," says the first. "But That Is Also True."

They watch the three members of the Heart Foundation stand, for a while, in silence.

And they move on.

They move over to the mesa.

Martyn is standing inside his house, that used to be Jimmy's house too, facing the three chests on the wall labelled "TIMMY", "MUMBO" and "MARTYN".

He is talking animatedly, and gesturing. "-and I kept trying to get them to follow me there, but nobody was taking the bait. Honestly, you guys would've laughed at me. But it-"

They let the rambling fade into the background.

"A Good Dog," says the first.

"Yes," says the second. "He Does As He Is Told."

"-and I've honestly been feeling a bit left out today, isn't that funny? But- Bdubs said, he said he would join me next week, so-"

They move on.

They move to the cobblestone castle, in the side of the hill.

Grian is cooing over a small magma cube named Etho's Dishwasher.

Cleo and Etho are leaning against the staircase watching him.

"Are you both alright?" asks Cleo.

"Sure, I'm fine," says Etho.

"Me?" says Grian, turning around. "Oh, I'm good, I was being a total coward. I just hung around at the top of that tower by the Secret Keeper for ages and none of them ever thought to look up."

"Really?" asks Cleo, amused. "Some of them I would expect that of, but I'd think Gem would be a bit more on the ball."

"Well, apparently not," says Grian.

He turns back to the magma cube, and they settle into quiet.

"I Would Have Expected More Of The Alliances To Have Fallen Apart, By Now," says the first.

"Loyalty Is At Its Most Interesting When It Is Stretched," says the second. "These Three Know It Will Never Last. They Know That All Of Them Are Aware Of This. That Is Why They Are Still Here. They Know How Much They Can Care Without It Being A Lie. And Then Privately, They Care More Than That Anyway."

Eventually, Etho sighs. He looks tired.

He glances from Cleo, to Grian, and back, and after a moment of hesitation, speaks. "I, uh. I'm glad you two survived." He shifts awkwardly, and continues before they can respond. "I thought they were going to try and make me kill you, at one point, and- Grian, I don't know if you know this, but Cleo is scary when she's getting revenge. I did not want to have to worry about that."

Cleo laughs, slightly, and gives Etho a look of the deepest affection. "Well, I did die, is the thing, so thanks for reminding me of that."

"No, no, you knew what I meant! See, Grian? See what it's like?"

"Uh huh," says Grian, raising an eyebrow. "Well, thanks for not killing us."

Cleo frowns at him, suddenly curious. "Grian?" they ask. "Are you the only one who didn't die today?"

Grian opens his mouth, then stops to consider it.

"Or- no, wait. Martyn." says Cleo. "Well. Well done either way."

They watch the trio for a little longer, and then they move on.

They move to Scott.

He is alone, in a forest somewhere.

He is leant up against a cliff face, staring down at the floor.

"None Of Them Even Died, This Time," says the first. "Not Permanently."

"No," says the second. "It Was Controlled. Directed. There To Even The Playing Field. We Can Just Ask Them To Do That, Now, And They Will."

Scott draws his knees up to his chest, and rests his head on his arms.

He doesn't move, or shout, or cry.

He just stays there, quiet.

Eventually, they move on.

They move to the Secret Keeper.

Gem is standing there.

She is looking at it.

"If She Had Decided To Fail At The Start," says the first, "She Most Likely Would Have Lived. She Lost So Much More, Taking Things From Other People, Than The Nothing She Would Have Lost In Failure."

"Yes," says the second. "That Is My Favourite Part."

They watch her.

"Anyway," says the second, "She Would Not Do That."

"She Wouldn't?" asks the first.

While I do love and appreciate BigB fans and understand their frustration that he’s not in fanart or fanfics a lot, I need some to understand that BigB is the type of person to watch from afar and speak when he wants to. He’s a bit shyer than the normal player and with a lot of the players regularly playing together (at least on camera) he’s not as close to others.

Which is why I appreciate how his teammates since double life have always tried to include him in conversations or plans. Third life he was more of a loner until near the end of the season and last life well… we saw how one betrayal does to a man…

But double life with Ren being his soulmate they were bromates, Ren would offer his hand to BigB as much as possible. Pearl in limited life hung around BigB 24/7 and helped him whenever possible because she didn’t want a win, why not help BigB her close friend and teammate? Secret life Skizz was actively including BigB whenever possible, he was part of the heart foundation and Skizz is quite possibly one of the most loyal players. Not too sure with wild life as I stopped watching that season but from what I saw he bounced around between two teams and himself but every time he was with a teammate they included him in the conversation.

However at the end of the day BigB is a quiet dude. He’s not loud like Bdubs or as quick witted as Martyn. He’s mysterious, keeps back and watches. The small vocal minority that says the he needs to team with Grian so people will draw/write him need to understand that you can just create art of BigB without needing big old mr popular. Popularity doesn’t mean their teammates will be treated the same (Eg art of Etho and Cleo on their own in secret life compared to Grian on his own) hell if we say that it has to be a popular player then why wasn’t there loads of art of BigB in limited life? Teaming with a winner who’s one of the most popular players? Nope, not a lot of art.

I will say BigB fanart has increased over the seasons and that’s wonderful! Now we need to put that energy into fics and we don’t need Grian for that.

It had happened in a flash.

Grian had never seen light so violent before. Bursting, bursting, bursting light, as if he were witnessing stars collide. It didn’t fade from his vision, no matter how hard he pressed his eyelids closed.

The sound was so loud that he felt it in his chest. He felt his vocal cords vibrate as he screamed his companions name, but it fell deaf on his own ears. The idiot! What if he’d gotten himself killed!

He started to slide as most of the floor collapsed beneath him.

He couldn’t help but feel as though a black hole had formed inside his stomach and was sucking in all his insides.

The dust started to settle in the air, and he scrambled downwards.

Falling. Falling. Falling, mentally and physically

He paid no mind to the pain in his ankles as he landed on them harshly. He didn’t have time for that, not when…

Grian‘s heart spasmed in his chest, and he ran towards Mumbo, whose body was mostly covered by rubble. His knees felt weak and pain radiated from legs.

“MUMBO! MUMBO, NO! YOU FOOL! Mumbo, no! Oh no,” his guttural scream turned into a whisper. “Mumbo…” his hand caressed his companion’s cheek. It was heated. Heated; not with the warmth of blood and life, but the leftover hotness from the explosion.

Tears, glinting in the sunrise, poured down his dust coated cheeks.

Gone. Gone. No longer on this planet. Further off than Jupiter or Mars.

It felt the same as he’d imagine waking in the night, only to go outside to realize the stars were gone. Never to be seen again, never to light up your world again. No stars, and the dumb, useless piece of rock that was the Moon. The Moon; Skizz.

He would need to find Skizz soon enough, wouldn’t he?

He placed a tender kiss to Mumbo’s forehead, and stepped away. They’d bring his body to the ground and dig a grave for him later. As strong as he was, Grian wouldn’t be able to move the now lifeless husk of his Companion by himself.

He climbed back up to the top of the tower. He was surprised he still had the coordination for a moment, as he looked down upon the ground below, but then dismissed the emotion.

He’d lost so much, over and over again, he didn’t have time to completely fall apart. Even with his closest companion…

He looked up towards the tauntingly idyllic sky, with its feathery clouds and too bright sun.

For a moment, a single blasted moment, he thought saw Mumbo’s face in those stupid fucking clouds.

He had never felt a loss his poignantly before.

What were you supposed to do when you only had one, dim, unlucky, fallen Star to count?

His gaze rested upon the grassy grounds, to keep look out for his fallen Star.

Getting into Skizz’s content as an autistic person is dangerous, man. I was all “eh, I don’t know if what I do really counts as ‘vocal stims’” but I started watching his vods this past month and now I can’t go 48 hours without at least one “so what we’re UH gUNNAH DOOo”

Big post with a whole bunch of species headcanons! Not every character is here and some headcanons have more detail than others simply because I happened to have more ideas for those

First I want to say that in my headcanon, avians and bird hybrids are different things. While hybrids (in general) are a mix of different species with any combination of traits, avians are pretty uniform in what kind of bird traits they have, and in general avians are genetically more similar to each other than random birds hybrids are to each other. With that out of the way-

Grian is a parrot avian, and he has a ton of vocal stims, from whistling and singing to mimicking noises he hears.

Martyn is a parrot hybrid, and he loooves to do silly voices and mimick creeper hisses

Gem became an anglerfish sea monster of sorts thanks to the water in Hermitcraft. The same happened to Mumbo (catfish) and Grian (cod). And also False but I don't know what kind of fish fits her </3

Pearl is also a fish, but in a different way. She's a salmon that can shapeshift into a human (or any mix between fish and human, like a mermaid)

In Secret Life, Gem had the great idea to replace her eye with an eye of ender. She became some sort of end portal creature. Nobody else has ever seen anything like it and frankly, they're scared. But Gem thinks that it's standard for a universe so full of horror

Skizz is an angel, and angels are soulless! This is why he wasn't in Double Life, the soulbound mechanic didn't work with him.

Another angel is Zedaph, he's a sheep/angel hybrid. He has a weird half-soul thing going on but it's fine really.

Zedaph prefers not to fly long distances if he can avoid it, because long ago he hurt his wings badly and he has chronic pain now

Impulse is a demon, and while demons can usually fly, his wings are underdeveloped and can't get him off the ground. He uses elytra instead.

Scar is another winged elytra user. He's a vex and vexes can fly, but it's painful for him to use his wings

Scar is an actual vex like like the ones evokers summon, and he uses some sort of vex magic to appear hybrid-like. His true form is a little vex guy.

Cub is a human turned vex, and his hybrid-like appearance is his true form. He can look fully human if he wants to, but not fully vex

Xisuma is a voidwalker. Voidwalkers are beings that form very rarely when particles and soul fragments lost to the void come together and become conscious. They're the only beings that can survive in the deepest part of the void

Voidwalkers are so rare that most of them live their whole lives without finding another living being, especially because they don't tend to leave the bottom of the void.

Because voidwalkers spend their whole lives in complete darkness, their eyes aren't super well developed. Xisuma's vision is blurry, he has visual snow, and he's very sensitive to light. His helmet actually filters out a lot of light so it doesn't give him a headache

His helmet also helps him breathe. Voidwalkers are not made for high pressure atmospheres

Etho is a phantom hybrid. He's allergic to cats and also the sun. He needs very little sleep. His silver hair is not a species trait, it's dyed

^that's a Hermitcraft-only headcanon. I see him as a silverfish in the Life series, for no particular reason. The silver hair is a species trait in that case

Bdubs is a glare hybrid, being scared of the dark is part of his glare instincts. The moss coat isn't part of him but I'm sure he could be mossy if he wanted to. He can probably fit inside a moss block

Tango is a blaze hybrid. Or a blazeborn? I imagine it's a similar situation to avians and bird hybrids but I haven't put that much thought into this one. And both blazeborn and blaze hybrid can be shortened to blaze anyways

She can't get burned, and water hurts him. Water breathing negates water damage

His flame naturally burns orange, but it can be other colors depending on what she's using as fuel. For example, the blue Dungeon Master look comes from burning soul sand

Her body temperature also depends on fuel. Normal, orange Tango freezes very easily, but blue Tango's body temperature is so high that he doesn't even feel the cold

He has tritanopia, as do all netherborns. There's only really two colors in the nether so beings from there didn't evolve the ability to see more than that

She can hover, which he uses mostly to break her fall and do big jumps

Because she can't touch water (without potions at least), he takes soul sand baths like a chinchilla. Yes, this makes him blue for a while

Impulse cannot believe that Gem managed to convince him to do this, but here he is, standing in front of a mirror in the common room an hour before honor recitals, in one of Cleo's dresses. He's- why did he do this?! Not the dress part, though that's... a stressor for a different reason (s?)he's trying not to think too hard about right now- but the whole deciding to audition for honor recitals thing. And he actually got in. That's- that's a big honor, literally. Camp has a lot of talented young musicians! All he does is hit a few drums sometimes! There are so many others who deserve this more than him!

So, yes, maybe Impulse gets a bit of stage fright. It's weird and stupid, because he's been on-stage before and done solos before and not been nervous at all!

But those times, he wasn't the only person on-stage.

Impulse thinks he might be sick, he's so nervous.

"Hey, buddy!"

Impulse nearly jumps out of his skin at the familiar voice, putting a hand to his racing heart.

"Geez, Skizz, that scared me-"

Skizz laughs and drapes himself over his best friend/roommate (at camp, at home they just. You know. Have their own separate houses), resting his head on top of the younger's. "You nervous?"

"Y-yeah, just... just a bit." To distract himself, Impulse focuses on Skizz's form in the mirror. He's wearing a dress, too (what did Gem get the guys into?), one of Pearl's- she's the only one actually tall enough to have clothes that might fit Skizz- and it's a nice dark blue color, dusted with star patterns. It's customary for everyone to wear more "formal" or "fancy" clothes on recital nights at camp, regardless of whether or not they're performing. Only, this year Gem single-handedly managed to convince half the guys on Hermit-side to wear dresses as their recital-night clothing.

Personally, Impulse thinks Pearl's dress looks much nicer on Skizz than it would on anyone else. Not that he'd say that out loud.

"You'll do great, dude, I know you will. You're an amazing drummer."

"I know, but... just... people."

Skizz chuckles. "And me!"

"Yeah, you and the others too, but, but, what about the staff? And there are lots of people on the Empires side who I don't know, and even the kids in the younger cabins on our side, I just-"

"Impulse. Breathe. We're all here because of a mutual love for music- or, I guess, 'cause our parents forced us here, but I doubt it- and everyone, and I mean everyone, is at a different skill level. We're all nervous about these types of things. It's normal, okay? You're gonna kill it. And hey, if you do get nervous on-stage... all us Hermit-side folks are gonna get front-row. Me especially. Just, if you have to look at the crowd, look at us. No-one else."

Impulse nods. "...Thanks, man."

Skizz's mouth quirks up into a grin. "No problem."

Next thing Impulse knows, over an hour's gone by, and he's sitting at the drumset they set up in-between the space between the last performance (Bdubs, here at camp in his fifth year for Vocal) and this one. He takes a deep breath and lets his eyes settle on his best friend, right in front-row, as he'd promised. And then he gets to playing.

And you know what? Skizz is right. He absolutely kills it. He leaves Alumni Hall that night feeling more exhilarated than ever before. Even more so, somehow, when Skizz comes up to him afterwards and gives him a bear hug, and the normally touch-averse Impulse has to hide his flushed-pink face in Skizz's shoulder.

Skizz will always be Impulse's rock, especially on a night like tonight. And any comments Impulse gets - from hermits or groups he's less familiar with - are about how good his drumming was, or how good he looks in that dress.

He thinks several people asked him out. But he wants nothing more than to spend the night kicking back with Skizz, celebrating a job well done.
