So- y’all remember that scene in season two where they were at lunch ? And Walter starts like explaining how you need a back up girl and how girls like competition and stuff and everyone looks at him funny and they like spend actually a lot time (for background characters) on that scene and Henry even tabbed his chest literally internally begging him to stop? Yes? So

For people who watched skam(France)- it’s so similar to that scene where Lucas starts talking about girls to overplay the fact he has absolutely no attraction to those and his friends literally look like him like he lost his mind because no one actually talks about girls that way??

( I know they probably put that in for completely Wilmon centred reasons but the parallel is actually funny)

Ana what was you inspiration for this fic: A simple insta story showing the actors re-enacting the famous lift from the movie as (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life played in the background was enough inspiration to have me imagining a canon divergent story where fate brings their characters together to do the same. I for sure am having a great time writing them dance to that song while they rehearse to perform it in a dance competition.

Pau_wo what inspired your art: Dance and Zoenne, the greatest combo. Being a fan of dirty dancing, I could not pass on the possibility of creating art for this story.

Today's the day when everyone is required to add their thoughts on The Eighth Sense ep. 6, yes? Here are mine, and I'll throw them under a readmore because there are spoilers.

It would be nice to be the kind of person who carefully screencaps and illustrates their posts, but alas and alack, there's only text.

I've seen a lot of theorising on most/all of ep. 6 being a dream or a hallucination, and while the cinematographic choices certainly point in the direction of the trip not being entirely real (the bright and slightly fuzzy filters, the sudden jumps, bringing nothing -> suddenly having all the camping gear you could wish for, the dreamy (hotel?) bed room, the shift from both of the guys sitting on the beach to Jae Won sitting alone in the exact same position), I think it might be an unreliable narrator twisting the "real" events of the episode. Not a dream, I think, but not quite a hallucination either.

I raised an eyebrow at the rest stop shop guy (side note: who is he. I want to see more of him in other shows/films) giving Ji Hyun the memory stick, and both eyebrows at him giving Jae Won the fireworks, because it made no sense at all.

But it does make sense if a narrator is edging into an idealised version of his story, where everything is bright and inviting.

From the rest stop on, I (and everyone else...) found the episode very unsettling, and the sudden camping gear really threw me - spare boots, really? When a few hours ago nothing was ready and you'd buy any thing you needed? At the entirely too bright and perfect morning on the beach I was practically squirming. It was so off compared to the cinematography up to the trip starting.

The unreliable narrator is most likely Jae Won. He's teetering on the brink of something, with his therapy and his meds and his father and the broken camera coming to a bit of a crescendo, and while he might not be all out hallucinating, he may be glossing over some things and blowing other things vastly out of proportion. We haven't been shown any hints about Ji Hyun being this unreliable.

So what sort of reality will we get in episode 7? I'm not even going to try and guess, it could go any way from a SKAM type mental crash and return to near normal and happy ending to all out horrible heartbreak and loss.

SKAM (I wonder which version(s)) was apparently used as an inspiration/preparation, according to a live they did, and SKAM's happy solutions for the mains was not necessarily the couple lives happily ever after (Eva breaking up with Jonas because that was the best for her at that point).

However, I note that the domestic trailer is far more upbeat than the international one, it seems from that like it's supposed to be feelgood overall. So maybe an open or happy ending? Yes please?

I also wonder why the tone in the domestic and international trailers are quite different. Could be something about what tends to lure the domestic audience in vs. what gets the international attention, and I don't know enough about the Korean audience to guess whether they enjoy getting a cheerful trailer and then a horrible heartbreak episode.

As for SKAM, back in the remake bonanza days there was indeed talk of making a Korean SKAM. It never came to be, and I absolutely don't want to call The Eighth Sense a Korean SKAM, but a beautiful Korean show that deals with sexuality and mental health? Yes fucking please. Also the reminder that SKAM lurks in the background here gives me a hope to cling to for a reasonably not-unhappy ending. It was utterly horrible watching Even's manic episode and Isak's panic at Even's text in O Helga Natt, but it turned out well.

I was tagged by @twig-tea thanks for the tag. Like you I'm having trouble narrowing it down so I cheated a little and some of this are grouped together.

Group One is the Detective group, I used to love detective stories, which means I watched a lot of cop shows, there are some that I can't watch anymore because of the new awarness of the copaganda but these are the ones that I still find comfort in: Cold Case, Elementary, Murder She Wrote, Columbo and Ris Roma (italian version of a CSI like show, this is the first and only spin-off which I like more)

Skam OG S3 and Eyewitness and Skam Italia s2. These I am not reaching for as much since I have BLs now. But they are still comfort shows. Skam Italian s2 in particular I reach when I want to feel better about the borderline semi-fascist hellstate I'm living in, since it's the best gay rep we italians got.

Animated Group: Animaniacs and Tiny Toons along with Looney Toons cartoons I use as background noise kind of shows. And along with the anime Kodomo No Omocha (Rossana in Italian) they remind me the most of childhood. Side note sometimes I listen to intro of Rossana anime and feel like a kid again, cartoon intro used to be a pretty big deal in Italian dub cartoons 80% of which were sanged by a single woman.

In particular = The Sound of Music, West Side Story 2021, Moulin Rouge, Les Misarable 25th concert, Into the Woods (the 90s recording), Much Ado About Nothing (the 2011 recording with David Tennant), Cats and an italian one Notre Dame De Paris an Italian-French Musical based on the Victor Hugo book not realted to the Disney version at all)

Bonus: the ones that are no longer comfort shows because I can never watch them again: CSI (all of them but I used to love NY), Law and Order, and Veronica Mars (which I haven't been able to watch since I saw s4)

And the ones that didn't make the list: My favorite Power Rangers series (they range from Lost Galaxy to RPM)

Currently Reading: Ellbogen by Fatma Aydemir IF only some of y'all would understand German and read her novel... her previous novel I read is also very relatable but this one... a young girl with migration background tells about her story about how her parens came to Germany, how she tries to find herself and her 'home' between the cultures. I'm still not far in the book but it's CHEF'S KISS. I can't wait to see it visualised on stage

Currently watching: Due to my busy schedule (and being currently on vacation) I can't/don't find the time to watch more dramas (which surprises me though) - 4 Minutes, Cosmetic Playlover, Good Partner, Love Next Door, SunsetxVibes (asked myself three episodes ago why it's still on my watching list), Terror Tuesday: Extreme, The Loyal Pin. I really want to start with First Note of Love, The Frog and The On1y One. There's another kdrama coming out 'The Devil Judge' can't wait for it

Currently consuming: dk the sun lol. Since I balance my working time (uni stuff), help and spend time with my grandparents and watch my dramas it's really balanced out and I'm less stressed. In fact I'm spending a lot of time at the beach and watch the sunset. It's truly a different feeling and different air you breathe a more relaxed one

Currently craving: ramen. yeah there's a specific type here in Türkiye which Germany doesn't have and I bought it two weeks ago but never could find the time to eat it

#25 Summation, reflections and plans for 2024

Now that the calendar is over I want to wrap things up with some thoughts and facts about of what have been and what is coming.

In this calendar I've written about 24 series that have meant something to me through my life. There are other series I might actually like more than some of them today, but they've all changed how I see things or how I feel about a certain subject. I started of with M*A*S*H, which will always be my all time favourite and which came into my life early. I ended with Julie and the Phantoms, which just recently came into my life and about which I still have a lot to learn. He's a goofy little jester, died like right after a carnival nearby the woodstone manor, as he was dying stumbled off onto the property and became a ghost with the others😼 he died with a bunch of shit in his sleeves from all his tricks and he's actually able to share his stuff with the other Ghosts as like a "ghost power"

Sasappis is so heartbroken that oc did not die with pizza somehow shoved up his sleeve😔💔 truly tragic. oc is like the type to observe everything, everyone could be fighting and he's just sitting in the background like :0 while munching on a snack from his sleeve😭

On Skam and gayness

So Skam works like so, every season has a new POV/main character and the past main characters become background/supporting characters in the next season.

So Skam season 3 is the gay one (Skam is Norwegian for “shame” and every season is about a character confronting and overcoming something they’re ashamed of)

Skam the original show was so popular a number of companies bought the rights to make it in their own country, so there’s Skam France, Skam Espana, Druck(German), and Skam Itala. Druck is my favorite remake because they do something very different from the original (but still gay)

It’s well worth checking out and since every season is it’s own story you can watch season 3 without missing anything really
