First chapter is up for my story for the 2024 @skambigbang! It brings together my love of Skam and MM hockey fics and all the great sports rivals to lovers tropes. It includes art by the incomparable @mazarin01 who created two pieces included this cover art. I hope you enjoy it! Here’s a snippet:

He finds himself in the same group with Even who’s a center and as the morning passes, he can’t help but notice how absolutely ridiculous this guy is. He knows he’s not supposed to judge people just based on looking at them, books and covers and shit and all that, but he can’t help it. He’s being judgy. Because well… look at him.

That over-styled pouf of hair that somehow still sits tall on his head, whenever he takes his helmet off, unlike Isak’s own smashed, sweat soaked curls. The way his eyes almost disappear into squinty crescents when he smiles behind his face shield. The one armed bro hugs he’s already giving to guys he’s just met, like he’s everyone’s instant best friend. Well… except for Isak apparently. The same Isak who is absolutely not salty after Even graces yet another guy with a shoulder squeeze to only look away as Isak skates by. Almost everything about Even is ridiculous.

What’s not ridiculous?

His hockey.

At the midpoint, today we’re featuring the first of our collaborations: Superstar, a cooperative effort written by MinilocIsland (@irazor) and Ghostcat (@ghostcat3000), and art by parallel-univers (@parallel-univers).  These versions of Isak and Even are slightly older than in canon, 23/24 and 26 respectively. Beardsak is in effect.

MinilocIsland and Ghostcat what inspired you for this story: Superstar began as a late-night/early-morning discussion about the best singing actors and our unapologetic love of one particular old-as-balls musical. As the idea evolved and became an actual story, inspiration came from Hei Briskeby gifs, indie video games, boy band rehearsal videos, beautiful Innlandet scenery, centuries-old orphanages, and the love superfans have for their idols. The general themes of the story are stardom, success and failure, loneliness, determination, fandom and love. 

parallel-univers what inspired your art: The writers are two of my absolute favourites in this fandom, so I'm extremely happy to be able to work with them. They've done an amazing job creating a fabulous universe and it's incredibly engaging and inspiring. I'm super excited to create something cool for this wonderful story!

SKAM Big Bang 2024 IS NOW CONCLUDED

Once again we are closing another successful year of stories for the SKAM universe. Some stories are still finishing, because life interferes. We hope that you have enjoyed reading our stories, and stick around to read the ones that are finishing up. If you're still reading some, or have not read them all, please do so and continue to leave Kudos and kind comments, because we've been thriving on those all summer.

A hearty congratulation and thank you to all our participants - writers, artists and betas - for making this a successful event. We will be making posts highlighting the beautiful art pieces for everyone to enjoy, please show some love to all artists.

Happily_EVAK_After what inspired your story? Having read so many amazing stories on Ao3, I decided to Beta a story for last years Big Bang. I also started thinking about my own fic and before long started writing it. The inspiration on Ao3 is breathtaking, so much talent! I uploaded my first short fic in December for a "winter wonderland" themed prompt on Instagram and was hooked.

CelesteKay what inspired your art? I love the way stars and stargazing tie Isaks relationships together, with his parents and Even. The wedding in general is also an inspiration.

Dummerjan what inspired you to become a beta? I was beta last year and it was fun to be a small part of the Big Bang. I enjoy proofreading and seeing a story develop.

Teejaysnow what inspired you: I had the sentence “Godfather. Fairy godFATHER. One bad translation by a heteronormative writer and you get misgendered for the rest of your career.” stuck in my head, and it just felt like a very Eskild thing to say. And then little cherub Eskild turned up in my head, all sassy in silky red booty shorts and tiny, white wings, and… well, here we are? Garce what inspired your art: Teejaysnow's story is a fun AU that is just a good time with a sassy godfather, Eskild, and a prince Even for Isak to fall for, which is such a hoot.

HedwigsTalons what made decide to beta: Teejaysnow's story is a fun AU that is just a good time with a sassy godfather, Eskild, and a prince Even for Isak to fall for, which is such a hoot.

Being a beta really lets you develop fandom connections. Not only have I been able to see stories grow and change over time but I've become better friends with the writers too

Next up:  Parallel Pieces of You and Me, written by Jules, with art from maxence4ever. An AU set in British Columbia, and a mountain setting, yes please!

Jules what inspired your story: Spider-Man into the Spiderverse meets all my SKAM faves, basically!  I pictured them all older, in their early twenties, first in a kind of in limbo and then in British Columbia, Canada at a snowed-in resort.

Switching gears, we're featuring the second of our collaborations this Bang, our OG/WTFock special crossover story The Cure written by viola_player1 aka @paralleluniversesfan and Anna_Driesen2121 aka @annadriesen2121, with art by monikachaarabi, and beta support from the amazing Avignonscat! A rollercoaster of a ride, with mystery, spies, exotic locations, and cameos from the SKAM multiverse. 

Anna_Driesen2121 & viola_player1 what inspired you: It was more of an organic process this year. We started with wanting four characters that did not know each other being brought together to resolve something. To that we added intrigue, subterfuge, and mystery. And the glue that holds it together is their growing attractions.

MonikaCharaabi what inspired your art: The meeting of EVAK and SOBBE, love, respect and great tenderness of the boys. Support for mental illness. An international crime story, a great mystery. A lot of interesting information about international organizations

Avignonscat what inspired you to beta: I was a beta for last years’s Big Bang.  It was my first bang and it was fun to be involved in the event. It’s interesting to see the writing process and being involved means helping keep the fandom alive.

Today we feature  Murder at 21:21 by Hodge (@hodgehegposts) art by Laika (@groovyturtlefestival) , and beta support from Hedgewigs Talon. An OG murder AU with twists and turns and a very tired Isak.

Hodge what inspired you to write this story? I love murder mysteries and crack fics, and adore Only Murders in the Building, which I thought fit the skam universe so well with its focus on found family. Even, Eskild and Linn also have such an interesting dynamic and I really wanted to explore that further, as well as using it as an opportunity to write something I’ve never written before. 

Laika what inspired your art for this story? The dream team of Even, Linn and Eskild! And the idea of the murder board popped in my head immediately after reading the claim form entry, I love the opportunity to make many small things so I don't get bored.

 Hedgewigs Talon what inspired you to beta this year? I've loved writing for and modding the bang in previous years but just couldn't commit a story this time round. Being a beta means I can keep supporting the bang and fandom, plus I get sneak peeks at some of the amazing stories coming your way.

Switching gears, today we’re featuring Heated Rivalry written by Beulaugh (@if-music-be-the-food-of-love), art by Polaris-artwork. A rivalry AU in the competitive world of music.

Beulaugh what was your inspiration for this story: My fic is inspired by the book Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid. The novel follows two rival hockey players who fall in love after 7 years of secret hookups. I’ve read the book 3 times in the last year, including when I was on my SKAM pilgrimage in Antwerp and Oslo, so I wanted to bring the two worlds together. Since I know nothing about hockey, I moved it to a world I do know--classical music.  The story covers 7 years, beginning when Sobbe are 16/17, both French Horn players. The whole story takes place in the music world--from high school to the conservatory to their future careers.

Polaris-artwork what inspired your art: I love how it's a story about horn players and I love how ELU makes a cameo.

Next up:  The Time of our LIves, written by Ana (@zoennes), with art from Pau_wo. Drawing inspiration from film and bringing to the page with Zoe and Senne, we can't wait!

Ana what was you inspiration for this fic: A simple insta story showing the actors re-enacting the famous lift from the movie as (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life played in the background was enough inspiration to have me imagining a canon divergent story where fate brings their characters together to do the same. I for sure am having a great time writing them dance to that song while they rehearse to perform it in a dance competition.

Pau_wo what inspired your art: Dance and Zoenne, the greatest combo. Being a fan of dirty dancing, I could not pass on the possibility of creating art for this story.
