Okay y’all so I have been thinking about the finale since Friday and the more I puzzle on it, the less I believe Ruby’s fairy tale ending was genuine. I of course was a big proponent of the “Ruby is River’s daughter theory”, but I am starting to be one of those people who think she is an unknown member of the pantheon. More specifically, I think she may be the daughter of The Trickster, I’ll go into why.
Let’s start with Ruby’s “mom” in the flashback, her hooded face with humanoid lips visible gives me serious Trickster vibes from SJA. A constant lament was “WHY CAN’T I SEE HER FACE?” Well, The Trickster really doesn’t have much of a face aside from ruby-red lips and sharp teeth. Honestly, why would a 15 year old have such an ominous cloak and where did she get it between the maternity ward and abandoning Ruby at the church? Granted a 15 year old still high on painkillers from giving birth could definitely do some zany shit, but it seems like a stretch to me. If my hunch is somehow correct, I would go so far to say that in the time window they did not see Ruby’s parent crying under the hood, but rather laughing maniacally. In fact, I honestly thought she was laughing when I first watched that scene. If the “mom” is actually The Trickster, then he would definitely have been laughing as he takes great pleasure in messing around with The Doctor and their companions.
The Trickster is the god of traps, which typically involves some narrative that a person falls prey to in order to be ensnared by the trap set for them. Ruby as the child of that entity could totally be able to create narratives that people would happily believe and become a part of, or to put it succinctly: a story. It isn’t any further of a stretch than the god of games having a child that is the god of music.
I think as the season went on, Ruby subconsciously created her own happy ending and bio parents piece by piece. Finding her parents seemed to be a process of creation as it unfolded. The DNA scan in 2046 only showed Ruby’s DNA twice. After defeating Sutekh though, 2024 UNIT was able to seamlessly find some ordinary and flawed woman eager to reconnect with and apologize to her abandoned child. Her bio mom is even willing to reach out to a presumable one night stand from 20 years ago, catch up with him, and see if he wants to become a father figure after two decades. Also the origin of Ruby’s name through a street sign that seemed to not exist in the footage, until it suddenly did, felt like an actual change to the timeline. I have nothing against this ending per se, it just all felt deliberately too perfect as if reality was bending entirely to Ruby’s deepest desires. To top it off Ruby somehow pulled the exact narrative of 10 and Rose’s goodbye for 15 and herself, almost as if unconsciously she tuned into one of The Doctor’s deepest heartbreaks to reflect how horribly she felt about leaving them.
I don’t think Ruby’s real story is close to done. I think her perfect ending will start to show cracks, and the reality of it will seem more created than true. Eventually we may even see her wake up to the truth of her power in time for The Trickster to come in and truly fuck around with things for her and 15. It would be interesting to see her owning her power to send her own bio parent into a narrative that The Trickster could never escape.
There is just too much that went unaddressed. How did Ruby conjure snow? Why was Maestro so disturbed by her hidden song that they said there was something seriously WRONG with her (Maestro literally refers to her as a CREATURE)? How did she fold her own timeline back in 73 yards? Why were people so terrified of or infuriated by the apparition that we now know was Ruby? Did the Ruby in the distance tell people about her ties to the Pantheon of Discord? Did the apparition know the truth of Ruby that is hidden even from herself? Why would Sutekh care about the hooded parent more than anything else he creeped on during his centuries attached to the TARDIS? Is he a Jerry Springer fan, obsessed with “you ARE/ARE NOT the parent” reveals?
One final thing that makes me think they may pull a child of The Trickster into the story. In SJA before Elisabeth Sladen passed, they were planning on revealing that her adopted daughter Sky was really The Trickster’s child all along. The episode never aired as SJA could not go on without Elisabeth. I could see RTD honoring her show by making that story canon through Ruby. After all, Ruby too is an adopted daughter.

So first thing we see of Sarah Jane in her own show is her desperately avoiding eye contact or awkward greetings with her new neighbours, non-verbally communicating with an alien and when her neighbour approaches her to say hello she freezes then turns round, completely misses the very obvious que for a handshake from Maria’s dad and immediately says
“I hope you’re not going to be too loud, I don’t like to be disturbed.”
But with a big smile like she doesn’t realise she’s being rude or abrasive, just informing them of her noise sensitivity. And also almost forgets to tell him her name.
So Sarah Jane Smith is like thoroughly autistic, right? Would be awesome if true!

I have a theory/headcanon that young Szeth was a budding Truthwatcher. I came up with that a year ago, and I’ve wanted to write a fic about it ever since.
I added another layer to that headcanon a few months ago, and started writing about it.
I have more written than I’ve posted. I’m editing/adding things in as I go.
Anyway, this is my take on one of my favorite headcanons

do you ever think about how the art in xayah's story versus rakan's story ( the same story but from each of their perspectives ) is representative of them and their views on the world? i'm going to snag just the art that shows similar moments between their stories but just... xayah's perspetive is left, rakan's is right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
look... at how much more vibrant the art from rakan's perspective are ( like even the second row... which is a death scene is much brighter than xayah's ). how the characters are more... blurred and soft looking, a little less detailed in rakan's. a sign of his more fantastical mind, his lack of focus versus xayah's more detail oriented and somber view on the world. in xayah's art, you still see a bit of the horrors of their fights in the images. in rakan's, you see the beauty of nature and the support of their people. in xayah's, she sees herself as separate from the others, off to the side... she sees rakan as being a bit mindless while she's telling him what they're doing... rakan sees her as there and present with their people, as lecturing him when he's doing nothing more than admiring... xayah's art is a bit harsher of lines, smaller swirls and more precision while rakan's is lots of long and smooth strokes, too. like i just. the contrast in their art is so telling of them as characters - their perspectives and thoughts.

if your character was forced to eat one thing for the rest of their life, what would they choose and why? ( max’s inbox hcs 1/8 )
Tumblr media
...it would probably be doughnuts.  if she can have different flavors because one thing for the rest of ones life without having variations available can change the idea.  but a bunch of different flavored doughnuts or forms of doughnuts?  perfect.  could have her sweet and occasionally the somewhat savory kind.  and she just loves doughnuts... ( also chocolate covered strawberries but... she could make a flavor of doughnut like that... ) without the possibility of variations/different flavors, she’d probably choose potatoes.  because you can just cook those a bunch of different ways at the very least.  and they’re filling and who doesn’t love a good potato!

A concept:
The Doctor, the Master, and an unspecified Third Time Lord who survived the Time War and has been making mischief in the background the whole time, unnoticed by the other two as they were too fixated on each other
Two lovers have reincarnated throughout history, destined to find each other and fall in love all over again. There’s also this third guy that reincarnates alongside them… we don’t really know what he does.

For the writers ask meme 📚🍬🍄
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
I just answered that here!
🍬 ⇢ post an unpopular opinion about a popular fandom character
My hot take is that Syl is not a human child, she's a thousands of years old spren with a temporary cognitive disability. It's one thing to joke about her child-like wonder and presumed innocence, but it's another to take away her responsibility for her choices or to say it's weird to have Sanderson make her "grow up". She's not growing up, she's regaining her cognitive capacity and remembering more of her own life.
Obviously I'm biased because I have cognitive disability/memory problems, which can sometimes get severe, and I become vulnerable. But vulnerable does not equal child. I would not want to be treated like a child when I need extra care and support and guidance. I don't like it when people treat Syl as though she's a child for not remembering how the world works and maintaining her chipper personality through that.

Evi/Sja-anat: I headcanon that Sja-anat kept Evi company when Dalinar was away, and she even helped Evi name Renarin. And that's the reason why she felt she could trust Renarin with her own child when no one else in the world could be trusted.

I have loved doctor who since I was a literal baby. I grew up with it, going to conventions and meeting so many actors half my baby albums are photos with like 6 year old me with Sophie Aldred or Peter Davison or something.
But yet why do I feel so guilty and like a fake fan for not writing fic? I have some unposted stuff, and hundreds of headcanons I talk with my friends about daily, but I never post fic. I post for other fandoms I like, but I don't know why I don't post for doctor who.
Not to mention the fact that fake fans literally don't exist. So why do I feel like I don't have enough to show for a so-called fan?
It has been the one constant in my life (including SJA and Torchwood) since I was an infant. Maybe I'm scared to taint the number one comfort (excluding my family) with my writing? I don't know.
It's really getting me down.

Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones?
Oh, this is a hard one. I love them all.
For the canon characters I write, I love Jimmy (from The Karate Kid) the most. But from those in the fandom I interact with, that is obvious. Because there is very little canon information to go on, I put a lot into Jimmy, occasionally utilizing some headcanons from friends. And there is the fact that my favorite actor plays him.
Regarding my OCs, that will either be Julie Lawrence or Molly Yates. Julie was the first OC I ever wrote and her story (Is This Love?) is the first story that I truly committed to writing. She is the love interest of the previously mentioned Jimmy and sister to The Karate Kid's Johnny Lawrence.
But Molly is currently on my mind because I'm hooked on Doctor Who, particularly the Classic era. The Third Doctor/UNIT era is my favorite era in Classic Who due to the regular characters and their dynamics. While I love NuWho, especially RTD's first era, I hate that they didn't connect to the Classic era as much. (Yes, I understand that a show needs to stand on its own, but still...) RTD also did a great job in creating spinoffs that could hold their own, yet still connected to the parent show (at least in the earlier seasons). My favorite of the spinoffs is The Sarah Jane Adventures because it stars one of my favorite Classic companions, the teen cast is really good, and the stories are enjoyable. I created Molly to be a bridge between my favorite era of Classic Who, my favorite run of NuWho, and SJA. She is the granddaughter of Captain Mike Yates of UNIT. As I've written her, she has changed a bit. Or rather, her story and some character connections and roles have changed.
My followers and readers' reactions don't have an effect on why they are my favorite characters. But my followers and readers do sway me into where to put my attention/what to write. I had some devoted Julie fans, but I haven't updated her story in so long, that I don't know if some of them are still out there. But I am determined to get back to my girl and Jimmy because I love their story and it needs to be told. No matter how long it takes me to write it. And talking to fellow Whovian @witchofthemidlands helps keep Molly and her story in my mind. If I have time tonight, I might write a bit more in her story.
Thank you for these questions!

fanific writer questions 19 & 35
35 Questions for Fanfic Writers
Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?
I'd say mostly canon-compliant. I usually like to work within the canon stuff, while adding into it with my pairings and headcanons. For instance, with Classic Doctor Who/Sarah Jane Adventures, Fourth Doctor and Sarah are a couple. I have them separate in "Hand of Fear" like in canon, and not see each other again until post-SJA.
Another example with TNG, Data's canon first attempt at a romantic relationship is with Jenna D'Sora, so I don't have him and Geordi get together until after that.
Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
A background detail for my wip "Deal with a Devil". I don't know if I'll somehow mention this in the story itself, but In the canon timeline, this story takes place soon before "DS9: In the Pale Moonlight."
So I have Data calling Garak for advice for dealing with the devil that is Kivas Fajo for this mission, shortly before Garak has to be the devil for SIsko in order to bring the Romulans into the war on their side.
Something something about parallels and all that :P

So can we talk about that moment in invasion of the bane when Luke gets to pick his name and he says he likes Maria’s name and when she says ‘definitely not’ he just lets out this quiet sigh and looks absolutely devastated???
I say…Trans girl Luke!!! Sarah Jane is the proud mum of a trans daughter!!! Spread the word!!!

Do you have SJA headcanons?
Mostly post-show headcanons, because it ended far too soon.
Luke goes to work for UNIT and ends up sharing an office with Osgood, who goes absolutely geek out about it. People keep trying to 'poach' him for other branches of UNIT, but Kate Will Not Share.
Sarah was uncomfortable with Luke joining UNIT at first, but she still figured out that he joined a few months before he actually told him. Kate calls the day after Luke officially tells Sarah. Sarah never had met Kate before, but she's impressed by Kate's Science Leads approach.
UNIT eventually finds out about the Coal Hill events and takes over the situation (Okay, that's a Class headcanon but you can have it for free.)
Maria ends up working with A Charitable Earth and is swiftly tracked into their more extra-terrestrial work. She hasn't actually met Ace, but some of the things she hears around the office sound familiar.
Luke is aroace and never marries.
Rani apprentices with Sarah for a while, but ends up working in another field. She keeps her skills sharp by hosting two news podcasts--one 'normal,' one for alien-related encounters. Everyone thinks the latter is a joke, like Night Vale.
Clyde sometimes guest-stars on Rani's podcast, but his full-time job is in cooking. He's done a few kickstarters for his comics; the first one failed, but his latest one got promoted by Rani and did fairly well.
Skye (I am TOTALLY ignoring the plans for the second half of season five) built her own rocket ship, to the amazement (And somewhat dismay) of both UNIT and Sarah. She's currently hitchhiking the galaxy somewhere, disappointed that Douglas Adam's books weren't as informative as they sounded. At some point, she meets up with the Doctor. They don't fit well together, but she loves the TARDIS engines.
Sarah Jane ends up immortal somehow and is still managing alien responses in the metro London area.

My personal Sarah Jane Adventures headcanon is that Luke can pick up languages easily. Like, he learns a language in less than a few seconds. He hears a few words of Spanish and bam, he’s fluent in Spanish. After all, that is how he learned English and speech in the first place: he listened to Maria talk and he was able to then understand the entire language.
He impresses everyone with it by making them believe that he’s a very skilled polyglot. It’s his party trick because yes languages are fun so it definitely can be a party trick. This also includes alien languages. He just... knows. He can reconstruct a language from only a few of its words.

Ok SO since Evi spent a lot of time in Kholinar with Renarin, and that's the last known location of Sja-anat, I headcanon that Sja-anat followed Evi around for years, learning about her and her family. Was Sja-anat fishing for information on Dalinar as a spy for Odium? Sure. But she also learned from Evi that we all have valuable, unique perspectives, and that beings are worthy on their own, not just for what they can do for a god. And thus began Sja-anat's trust in Renarin AND her belief that she could become a god in her own right. Many thanks to @knight-of-skyloft for opening my eyes to this ship!
