Thank you for posting this because the idea that Kakashi is “forced” into this rivalry is wrong. If Kakashi doesn’t wanna do something, he doesn’t! He loves Gai and his friendship with him. He cherishes and respects him as a person, a friend and a rival!

Friendly reminder that when Gai dances, Kakashi dances.

This friendship/rivalry is 100% equal and while Kakashi isn’t as openly enthusiastic as Gai he is still 100% participating enthusiastically in the way that he shows enthusiasm.

Gai was his most consistent support. His presence never faltered in Kakashi’s life even when he was in the trenches of hell and experiencing the atrocities that he subjected himself to because his guilt was so heavy he didn’t believe he deserved to live.

Gai loved him before that, Gai loved him during it and Gai loves him after. I believe with my heart and soul that if Gai died Kakashi would shatter in a way he never could come back from.

Love Gai and Kakashi's friendship in canon with all my heart and soul. Yes, they are soulmates in every sense. Best friends. Rivals. In many ways, Gai was closer to Kakashi as a person than the entire Minato team. I think Gai would have been the final straw that would have broken the camel's back. If Kakashi lost Gai too, Kakashi would 100% commit suicide. There's no way around it. And that's the reason Obito didn't kill Gai. Obito was determined to make Kakashi suffer and all, but he also wanted Kakashi to live in that hell with him. Yes, Gai's death would make Kakashi suffer, but it would also drop Kakashi into the abyss of death.

Kakashi Week Day 5 Prompt - Hidden/Mirror

Another part of the series where Kishimoto became lazy. He didn’t care about how his characters would react to the truth so he swept it away so he didn’t have to give more depth to a huge narrative point that affected multiple characters.

Kakashi not reacting to the truth in a negative way is ooc for him. Kishimoto backtracked on his character by keeping his reaction stagnant. It’s disheartening to see someone like Kakashi who cares so deeply about his friends to a point where he goes against Hokage orders to help them only to not have any negative reaction to finding out the third was the reason the massacre took place.

Actually now that i’m on that train of thought

Kishi really ignored Kakashi’s ‘friends and precious people above the mission’ mentality to have him ask why Sasuke wasn’t ‘doing as Itachi wished’

Kakashi should have been pissed

He should have heard that his village elders decided that villagers that they were supposed to protect and work alongside needed to die, and lost his mind

He should have lost all respect for hiruzen (i don’t think he had a lot left, but damn he should have hated hiruzen)

He should have been angry at Itachi for choosing the village over his friends and family, and harming his brother in the process

It makes no sense for Kakashi to talk about teammates and precious people over the mission, just to turn around and have zero reaction to finding out the truth behind the massacure

Kishi wanted so badly for it to end up being swept under the rug that characters who were ‘good’ weren’t even allowed to have appropriate in character responses and i’m gonna be bitter about it

One thing that really irks me about Kakashi and Sasuke’s relationship that @depressedhatakekakashi brought up is that a lot of fans I’ve seen will try to paint blame on Kakashi for any shortcomings he may have had with him but will never and I mean never acknowledge Itachi’s - and Obito - horrible actions he made against Sasuke.

Itachi manipulated, traumatized and broke an 8 year old boy because he was too cowardly to go against the system. Obito took everything away from Sasuke and made sure he was always on the verge of a breakdown because he was easier to control. Both of them ruined his life in ways we can’t even begin to understand. Intention does not take away from the consequences of their actions. Itachi and Obito were the cause of Sasuke’s suffering and you want me to believe Kakashi is worse than them?

Was Kakashi the best teacher? No, he had his problems and some of them were the issue of the author, but when he did try with Sasuke and he met Kakashi halfway there things went smoothly.

Was Kakashi even the best person? No, his words for example to Sasuke about his clan was inconsiderate and downright offensive but to put him on an equal and even greater level to what both Itachi and Obito did is absurd.

Sasuke and Kakashi’s relationship issue is that they both went through incredibly traumatic things as children but came out of it with differing perspectives of the world.

Sasuke’s anger and frustration was easier to pin on a single person because he was led to believe a single person was the cause of all his tragedy. Revenge in his mind was the only thing to keep him alive, it was genuinely the only thing he had left. Kakashi never had a single person to blame everything on. His tragedies were mostly caused by a general tragedy instead of a personal one.

Their relationship is supposed to have conflict because of their similar upbringing’s and differing beliefs. Sasuke said that he’d lose himself to revenge just to reach that goal and Kakashi didn’t want him to do that for the end product. The problem people need to have is that Kishimoto didn’t flesh their relationship out enough to where they understand each other. It wasn’t the revenge itself he had an issue with but the revenge consuming him and that’s the conflict between the two because that’s what Sasuke didn’t care for.

I feel I yapped enough but Sasuke and Kakashi’s relationship really is great - and could’ve been even greater. Kakashi isn’t the villain in Sasuke’s story and y’all know that. They are parallels to each other and are different outcomes of similar situations.
