Propaganda
Yvette Mimieux (Dark of the Sun; Joy in the Morning; Where the Boys Are)—She is so enchanting on screen... that ethereal presence paired with her dark, sparkling eyes gives her an almost dream-like quality...
Xia Meng, also known as Hsia Moog or Miranda Yang (Sunrise, Bride Hunter)—For those who are familiar with Hong Kong's early cinema, Xia Meng is THE leading woman of an era, the earliest "silver-screen goddess", "The Great Beauty" and "Audrey Hepburn of the East". Xia Meng starred in 38 films in her 17-year career, and famously had rarely any flops, from her first film at the age of 18 to her last at the age of 35. She was a rare all-round actress in Mandarin-language films, acting, singing, and dancing with an enchanting ease in films of diverse genres, from contemporary drama to period operas. She was regarded as the "crown princess" among the "Three Princesses of the Great Wall", the iconic leading stars of the Great Wall Movie Enterprises, which was Hong Kong's leading left-wing studio in the 1950s-60s. At the time, Hong Kong cinema had only just taken off, but Xia Meng's influence had already spread out to China, Singapore, etc. Overseas Chinese-language magazines and newspapers often featured her on their covers. The famous HK wuxia novelist Jin Yong had such a huge crush on her that he made up a whole fake identity as a nobody-screenwriter to join the Great Wall studio just so he can write scripts for her. He famously said, "No one has really seen how beautiful Xi Shi (one of the renowned Four Beauties of ancient China) is, I think she should be just like Xia Meng to live up to her name." In 1980, she returned to the HK film industry by forming the Bluebird Movie Enterprises. As a producer with a heart for the community, she wanted to make a film on the Vietnam War and the many Vietnam War refugees migrating to Hong Kong. She approached director Ann Hui and produced the debut film Boat People (1982), a globally successful movie and landmark feature for Hong Kong New Wave, which won several awards including the best picture and best director in the second Hong Kong Film Award. Years later, Ann Hui looked back on her collaboration with Xia Meng, "I'm very grateful to her for allowing me to make what is probably the best film I've ever made in my life."
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

Charles’s Angel(s)
Ch.12
Tumblr media
Charles Leclerc x Reader
Author’s Note: FYI, if you haven’t been following along closely since chapter 2, I had the OC be Indian/a brown girl— Just because I felt like we don’t get enough representation. So if you don’t like that, I guess just either live with it, or blur that piece of information out as you go. Also: did I use some random ass generator wheel for some of the super specific information? Yes. Will I change it? Probably not. Did I check if that kinda stuff was even possible? …Mayhaps.
When you finally make it into the restaurant and sit down to order, you immediately spot multiple people, mostly young women, pulling out their phones, trying to (not so) discreetly take photos and videos of the two of you. You could just imagine the headlines and hashtags trending the next day.
Charles is immune to this by now and smiles and waves at some of the phones, and ignores the majority of the others.
Biting your lip, you scan through the menu. “Charles?”
“Hmm?”
“Would you mind recommending me something? I’ve never been here before”.
“Sure Chéri. Is there anything you don’t or can’t consume? I hate to assume, but I know that lots of Indians are vegetarian”.
“Ah, no. My family and I eat everything, so no worries”.
He orders a Tourte de Blettes for you and a Pissaladiere for himself.
“So. Tell me more about yourself.”
Not knowing how to go about this, you think for a while. “Well, I’m Indian, but I was born in Singapore, and brought up in America”. You count off a finger. “I was certified to be a music producer at a very young age, sometime in secondary school and I have a degree in forensic science. I really love singing, but usually only in my free time. I've actually been working at a producing studio here”. You scrunch your brows trying to recall any interesting details about yourself. “Um, I’m also a dance choreographer for a lot of Korean idol groups and produce music for them too, so I go over there from time to time… I don’t know. What exactly do you want to know?”
When you meet Charles’s eyes again, he’s looking at you with an adoring expression on his face. “You’re so cute, like a little angel. Mon ange” (My angel).
You blush in embarrassment. He asks you more about why you chose your major and what it’s like working with idols while you wait for your meals. “I’d love to hear you sing sometime”.
Just then, the waiter comes with your dishes. Whew, saved by the food! The aromas wafting off the delicious looking dishes are absolutely mouth watering, as if the sights weren’t enough. You begin to split your food in half, and he asks what you’re doing. “Oh- well, my family and I always split our meals equally to try everything, Sorry, I did that out of habit– I can take the piece back–”
“I think I quite like that idea. Here”, He splits his meal and gives it to you as well.
After dinner, the two of you decide to split the bill, because you were unwilling to let Charles pay in full, regardless of whether or not he earned more than you.
As you walk back home, hand-in-hand and discussing common interests, you find yourself leaning your head on his arm, and later, with his arm around your shoulder.
When you reach the door to your apartment, he turns to you and moves a strand of hair out of your face. “I liked getting to know you tonight, and I hope you will give me the chance to take you out again”. You make a sound of agreement. Knowing that you aren’t quite ready to have your first kiss yet, you pull him down slightly and get on your tiptoes, kissing his cheek. He smiles and kisses the crown of your head in return, and then ushers you into your home.
When he leaves, you send him a text. Thank you for the best first date ever.

P.B
JULY/AUGUST/SEPTEMBER
For starters, I went on tour in July which was fucking incredible. With my first couple of tours in 2022 (with Joji & then my own solo US/UK tour) the nerves were sometimes so all-consuming that I'd spend the mornings spiraling, curled up in a ball in my hotel room...then soundcheck -> warmups -> go time. I always had a great time during the show but the before / after was mentally draining.
Before heading on this Asia tour, I spent a lot of time thinking about how I was going to play shows in cities I'd grown up in/spent a lot of time in and that I was ticking off a bunch of bucket list items in a two-week window. insanity. This tour was also my official send-off to the rapunzel project and it definitely made things a little more sentimental.
Going in with that mindset, I had a fucking blast. Meeting so many of you, playing my first festivals, solo-venturing out in new cities and trying new cuisines. I've already posted a big highlight reel on IG/The TOK, but I thought I'd share a cute little video snippet of my nani (Grandmother) dancing to Blur during my Delhi show.
August was filled with a lot of traveling. The big 17 hour flight from Singapore to LA felt as long as it sounds. Head in the Clouds in LA, which had a snazzy Amazon Prime livestream - my sister watched it - then back to Nashville to work on finishing this album during the weekdays. Flew to LA to play my label the new songs (they seemed to like them). Spent a couple of weekends in NYC, writing in coffee shops, and walking around the park and getting an ear-break. another weekend in DC for a much needed catch up with friends from home.
September has been a bit more settled. I've been in the studio mostly. Nashville is a great city but I don't know all that many people here and the loneliness has been deep. I've asked for a "table for 1" more times than I can count. my running joke with my friends (who very cutely call to check in on me) is that I've never heard my inner monologue so clearly, which is probably good for the music.
As far as that goes .. some of my favourite songs I've ever written. the album has really taken shape and it has a name (P.B). If you guess it, I will literally send it to you right now. it's a bit of a mouthful ngl.
There's a small chunk of it left to finish and write. The singles have been sitting in a folder in my computer for some months now. they will be in your ears "soon". I know i've said that word so many times.....I didn't realize how legit releasing a song could be....weeks of lead time, getting press people to hear it, teeing up things on social media (the tok...), making sure you have videos lined up....things I never ever thought about when I started out.
okay that's my big update.

What if Far Far Away Castle was featured at Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Orlando?
20 years ago on this day, "Shrek 2" was released two days early from its initially scheduled release date, May 21, 2004. This film took the world of "Shrek", as well as DreamWorks Animation to new heights. Considering how "Shrek 2" was even better than the first movie, and also its huge box office success at the time, it gave me an idea I thought of a few years ago.
We all know how "Shrek" was supposed to be a satire of fairy tales, nursery rhymes, and even Disney classics, so I thought that since the Magic Kingdom was the main highlight for the Disney Parks (Mainly Sleeping Beauty's castle in California and Cinderella's castle in Florida), and the fact that Disney and Universal are natural rival studios, what if Universal Studios Theme Parks in the United States built a replica of King Harold and Queen Lillian's castle to compete with Disney's Magic Kingdom?
Though Far Far Away does exist at Universal Studios Singapore, here's my own interpretation for how I think Far Far Away Castle would look like in the US.
SETUP
The exterior would pretty much be the same, if not, downsized. For the interior, I imagined the castle would not only be a place you could tour around, but it could also work as a hotel. The rooms we've seen in the "Shrek" sequels like the dining room, the courtyard (complete with a wooden polished dance floor and a stage for live performances and other outdoor events), and even the library (even though you can't rent the books, as I think the shelves would be fake) would be present. The place can be loaded with bedrooms, themed off of famous DreamWorks Animation properties. Some bedrooms can also have a balcony where you can get a good view of Universal Studios from.
As far as other rooms, I was thinking there could be a swimming pool and hot tub area, a spa, an arcade, and even private movie theater screening rooms where you can watch your favorite Universal movies with your choice to see them in 2D or RealD 3D formats (depending on your liking, or what titles are available for both formats). There can also be a restricted area for adults only which offers a bar and possibly a casino, with "Shrek" themed slot machines and card tables.
This is all I've got, but since Nintendo beat us to it with Super Nintendo World (in a good way, of course), I still think this would've been a great sight to see for Universal.

Time for a little but of Marlon Dance-Hooi I think?
Marlon's been in the VO game for the past decade, voicing everything from Chipper Necromancers to heroic robots, and on one occasion a talking candy-cane man. For 6 years at he portrayed the wisecracking Donkey and the malevolent Megatron at Universal Studios Singapore. Outside of commercials and live performance, Marlon has lent his vocal cords to dozens of animated shorts and eight long-running animated series, including the Science education show ARGOs world, 123 Number Squad, Leo the Wildlife Ranger, and the Apollo Award winning Oddbods.
Marlon will be playing Darwin, human meathead and member of unit-404, which doesn't exist. No matter what you've heard...

"Sticker" is a song recorded by South Korean boy group NCT 127 for their third studio album of the same name. Composed by frequent production group and collaborator Dem Jointz, Calixte, Prince Chapelle, Ryan S. Jhun and Yoo Young-jin with lyrical composition by the latter, member Taeyong and Mark, the "experimental" hip-hop track was released digitally on September 17, 2021 as the lead single from the album by SM Entertainment. An accompanying music video was released on the same release date, which depicts a "futuristic/space cowboy" concept.
"Sticker" became the group's second top-five hit on the Gaon Digital Chart, while becoming their eleventh top-five entry on the US World Digital Song Sales chart. It is also NCT 127's first entry on the Global 200 chart, where it peaked at number 101. "Sticker" achieved ten wins in South Korean music programs, becoming the most-awarded song by NCT 127 and by an NCT sub-unit.
"Sticker" was composed by Dem Jointz, Calixthe, Prince Chapelle, Ryan S. Jhun, Yoo Young-jin, while production was handled by Lee Soo-man.[3][4] Dem Jointz had also co-produced NCT 127's previous singles "Cherry Bomb," "Kick It," and "Punch." The song features a prominent flute sound and a "minimal" and "subdued" production. The group found the song surprising and difficult to master. Member and co-lyricist Taeyong noted in a behind-the-scenes video that he felt that he was "being punished" and "rebuked" for a song for the first time due to its difficulty in pulling off the song.[7] Member and vocalist Doyoung shared it was their first time where they "dived deep" with Yoo Young-jin while recording the song, with Yoo encouraging the group's rappers Taeyong and Mark to write the song's rap lyrics to "bring out the NCT vibe" with the group in mind. In an interview on The Travis Mills Show, member Johnny said listeners can expect to be surprised with the flute melody, while Mark described it as a song that "has a lot of impact and a lot of dynamics" that they have "never touched before." Dem Jointz attributed the song's odd structure to “just being different. You want to stand out, but at the end of the day, you still want everybody to get what you’re doing." He also added that the flute sound "makes you get down and boogie." He ultimately called it one of his favorite tracks, saying that he "feels as strong about this record as I do [for] 'Kick It.'"
In South Korea, the song debuted at number 17 on the Gaon Digital Chart for the issue dated October 12–18, 2021 and peaked at number 5 in its second week. It also debuted at number 1 both on the component Download Chart and on the component BGM Chart. The song also debuted at number 144 on the component Streaming Chart and peaked at number 37 in its second week.[14][15] The song debuted at number 25 on the Billboard's K-pop Hot 100 chart for the issue dated October 2, 2021.[16] In Japan, the song debuted at number 55 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart for the issue dated October 2, 2021. In Singapore, the song debuted at number 16 on the RIAS's Top Regional Chart for the issue dated September 17–23, 2021. In the United States, the song debuted at number 5 on the BillboardWorld Digital Song Sales chart for the issue dated October 2, 2021. It also debuted at number 101 on the Billboard Global 200 for the issue dated October 2, 2021 and at number 53 on the Billboard Global Excl. US for the issue dated October 2, 2021. In Singapore, the song debuted at number 16 on the RIAS's Top Regional Chart in the chart issue dated September 17–23, 2021.
The music video for "Sticker" was released at 13:00 KST on September 17, 2021, alongside the single and album release. The high-budget music video depicts a "futuristic/space cowboy" concept with colorful set designs, use of CGI, camerawork transitions, and the members singing and dancing throughout different sets. The set is noted for its city-style, video game elements, and use of neon lights accompanied by CGI, which NME describes as "Las Vegas-esque." On YouTube, "Sticker" became the fastest music video by an SM Entertainment artist to surpass 1 million views, which it achieved in only 21 minutes, despite its 13:00 KST release when most fans from Asia are still at school or work.[25] It also surpassed 27 million views and 1.4 million likes within 24 hours, breaking the record for the second most-viewed NCT music video in the first 24 hours at the time, and the most for NCT 127, until the release of "2 Baddies" in 2022.

Marlene Dietrich (Shanghai Express, Witness for the Prosecution, Morocco)—Bisexual icon, super hot when dressed both masculine and feminine, lived up her life in the queer Berlin scene of the 1920s, central to the 'sewing circle' of the secret sapphic actresses of Old Hollywood, refused lucrative offers by the Nazis and helped Jews and others under persecution to escape Nazi Germany, the love of my life
Xia Meng, also known as Hsia Moog or Miranda Yang (Sunrise, Bride Hunter)—For those who are familiar with Hong Kong's early cinema, Xia Meng is THE leading woman of an era, the earliest "silver-screen goddess", "The Great Beauty" and "Audrey Hepburn of the East".
This is round 5 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

ms dietrich....ms dietrich pls.....sit on my face
its marlene dietrich!!!! queer legend, easily the hottest person to ever wear a tuxedo, that hot hot voice, those glamorous glamorous movies…. most famously she starred in a string of movies directed by josef von sternberg throughout the 1930s, beginning with the blue angel which catapulted her to stardom in the role of the cabaret singer lola lola. known for his exquisite eye for lighting, texture, imagery, von sternberg devoted himself over the course of their collaborations to acquiring exceptional skill at photographing dietrich herself in particular, a worthy direction in which to expend effort im sure we can all agree. she collaborated with many other great directors of the era as well, including rouben mamoulian (song of songs), frank borzage (desire), ernst lubitsch (angel), fritz lang (rancho notorious), and billy wilder (witness for the prosecution). the encyclopedia britannica entry im looking at while compiling this propaganda describes her as having an “aura of sophistication and languid sexuality” which✔️💯. born marie magdalene dietrich, she combined her first and middle names to coin the moniker “marlene”. she was a trendsetter in her incorporation of trousers, suits, and menswear into her wardrobe and her androgynous allure was often remarked upon. critic kenneth tynan wrote, “She has sex, but no particular gender. She has the bearing of a man; the characters she plays love power and wear trousers. Her masculinity appeals to women and her sexuality to men.” in the 1920s she enjoyed the vibrant queer nightlife of weimar berlin, visiting gay bars and drag balls, and in hollywood her love affairs with men and women were an open secret. she was an ardent opponent of nazi germany, refusing lucrative contacts offered her to make films there, raising money with billy wilder to help jews and dissidents escape, and undertaking extensive USO tours to entertain soldiers with an act that included her a playing musical saw and doing a mindreading routine she learned from orson welles. starting in the 50s and continuing into the mid-70s she worked largely as a cabaret artist touring the world to large audiences, employing burt bacharach as her musical arranger.
Tumblr media
First of all, there are those publicity photos of her in a tux. Second of all, I have never been the same since knowing that she sent copies of those photos to her Berlin lovers signed "Daddy Marlene." Not only is she hot in all circumstances, but she can do everything from earthy to ice queen. Also, she kept getting sexy romantic lead parts in Hollywood after the age of 40, which would be rare even now. She hated Nazis, loved her friends, and had a sapphic social circle in Hollywood. She also had cheekbones that could cut glass and a voice that could melt you.
Tumblr media
Her GENDER her looks her voice her everything
Tumblr media
“In her films and record-breaking cabaret performances, Miss Dietrich artfully projected cool sophistication, self-mockery and infinite experience. Her sexuality was audacious, her wit was insolent and her manner was ageless. With a world-weary charm and a diaphanous gown showing off her celebrated legs, she was the quintessential cabaret entertainer of Weimar-era Germany.”
Tumblr media
The bar scene in Morocco awoke something in me and ultimately changed my gender
youtube
"Her manner, the critic Kenneth Tynan wrote, was that of ‘a serpentine lasso whereby her voice casually winds itself around our most vulnerable fantasies.’ Her friend Maurice Chevalier said: ‘Dietrich is something that never existed before and may never exist again.’”
Tumblr media
"Songstress, photographer, fashion icon, out bisexual phenom (notoriously stole Lupe Velez and Joan Crawford's men, and Errol Flynn's wife, had a torrid affair with Greta Garbo that ended in a 60-year feud, other notable conquests including Erich Maria Remarque -yes, the guy who wrote All Quiet on the Western Front- Douglas Fairbanks Junior, Claudette Colbert, Mercedes de Acosta, Edith Piaf), anti-Nazi activist. Marlene was a bitch - she had an open marriage for decades and one of her favorite things was making catty commentary about her current lover with her husband, and her relationship with her daughter was painful- but she was also immensely talented, a hard worker, an opponent of fascism and the hottest ice queen in Hollywood for a long time."
youtube
"She can sing! She can act! She told the Nazis to fuck off and became a US citizen out of spite! She worked with other German exiles to create a fund to help Jews and German dissidents escape (she donated an entire movie salary, about $450k, to the cause). She looks REALLY GOOD in a suit. If you're not convinced, please listen to her sing "Lili Marlene". Absolutely gorgeous woman with a gorgeous voice."

"Bisexual icon and Nazi-hater. Looks absolutely stunning in the suits she liked to wear. 'I dress for the image. Not for myself, not for the public, not for fashion, not for men'."

The Role of Ballet Academies in the National Ballet Scene
Tumblr media
Ballet in Singapore has grown remarkably over the past few decades, transforming into a vibrant and respected art form within the national performing arts scene. At the centre of this movement stands ballet academies, premier institutions shaping the ballet landscape in Singapore. Its role in nurturing local talent and advancing ballet's reach has been pivotal in making the country a hub for high-quality dance training.
Let’s explore how the ballet studios in Singapore have  contributed to the national ballet scene.
A Leading Provider of Ballet Education in Singapore
In Singapore, ballet academies are widely regarded as top ballet schools. They offer structured and comprehensive training programmes. With a curriculum based on internationally recognised standards, the academy prepares students from beginner to advanced levels, ensuring each dancer receives the skills needed to succeed in ballet. The academy's high level of training sets it apart as a leading ballet school that produces well-rounded dancers ready to take on challenges locally and globally.
The rigorous curriculum provided at a Singaporean ballet academy focuses on technical proficiency as well as artistry. This holistic approach enables students to develop a deep connection with ballet as an art form while building the technical foundations required to excel in the field. As one of the most established ballet studios in Singapore, the academy's influence on the national ballet scene continues to be profound.
Nurturing the Next Generation of Ballet Professionals
One of an academy’s significant contributions to the national ballet scene is its dedication to nurturing young dancers who aspire to build professional careers in ballet. Through their advanced training programmes, talented dancers can receive mentorship from experienced professionals in the field. This level of guidance prepares students for the demands of professional ballet, ensuring that Singapore remains competitive on the global ballet stage.
Many dancers who have trained at a Singaporean ballet academy have gone on to perform with renowned ballet companies worldwide. This impressive track record has solidified the academy’s reputation as a launching pad for aspiring ballet dancers in Singapore. By consistently producing top-tier talent, a ballet studio enhances the overall standard of ballet in the country, creating a ripple effect that elevates the entire dance community.
Fostering Cultural Exchange and Collaboration
Singaporean ballet studios foster cultural exchange and collaboration as the local ballet scene grows. The academy regularly collaborates with international ballet schools and companies, bringing world-class instructors and guest performers to Singapore. These collaborations provide local dancers invaluable exposure to different styles and techniques, enriching their learning experience and broadening their perspectives.
In addition, the academy often organises joint performances, workshops, and masterclasses, providing students with unique opportunities to work alongside international professionals. This exposure to a diverse range of ballet traditions helps elevate Singapore’s ballet scene to international standards, ensuring that local dancers remain competitive on the global stage. Through these efforts, most Singaporean ballet academies position themselves as a key player in promoting ballet Singapore as a thriving part of the worldwide ballet community.
Promoting Ballet as an Accessible Art Form
Ballet studios are deeply committed to making ballet an accessible art form for the general public. While ballet is traditionally viewed as a niche art, the academy works to demystify this perception by organising performances, outreach programmes, and community initiatives. These events allow the broader community to engage with the ballet, increasing awareness and appreciation for this classical art form.
Academies introduce ballet to new audiences through public performances and school collaborations, encouraging a broader appreciation of the art. Its efforts to make ballet more inclusive contribute to the national conversation about the role of the arts in everyday life, helping to solidify ballet’s position within Singapore’s cultural fabric.
Shaping the Future of Ballet in Singapore
Looking ahead, the Singapore Ballet Academy continues to shape the future of ballet in Singapore through its dedication to excellence and innovation. The academy remains at the forefront of ballet training, constantly updating its teaching methods to stay aligned with the latest trends and techniques in ballet instruction. By doing so, the academy ensures its students are well-prepared for the evolving demands of professional ballet careers.
Furthermore, the academy’s commitment to nurturing talent extends beyond technical training; it instils in its students a passion for the art and a deep respect for ballet's traditions. By maintaining this balance between innovation and tradition, ballet studios play a crucial role in preserving ballet's legacy in Singapore while pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved in the national ballet scene.
Encouraging Lifelong Engagement with Ballet
Beyond its professional training programmes, the Singaporean ballet studios also encourage lifelong engagement with ballet, offering classes to individuals of all ages and skill levels. The academy’s recreational ballet programmes allow enthusiasts to pursue their passion for dance, regardless of their professional aspirations. These programmes provide an inclusive environment where anyone can experience the joys of ballet, promoting a deep-seated love for the art form within the community.
By fostering an environment where people from all walks of life can engage with ballet, a ballet studio builds a vibrant dance culture in Singapore. Its efforts to cater to diverse audiences ensure that ballet remains a dynamic and integral part of the nation’s artistic landscape.
Conclusion
In summary, a Singaporean ballet course is a vital institution in developing and promoting ballet within the national scene. Through rigorous training programmes, cultural collaborations, and community outreach, the academy has firmly established itself as a leading force in Singapore’s ballet ecosystem. The academy's contributions ensure that ballet remains an accessible and respected art form, continuing to inspire new generations of dancers and audiences alike.
