My 乱体字 hybrid characters

Introducing 乱体字, AKA the result of me, a learner who can only write simplified characters, trying to write traditional characters. 混体字 might be the more appropriate name, but I like the sound of 乱体字 better.

Clearly, it’s easy for my brain to remember simple rules like 见 -> 見 and 贝 -> 貝 , but other details get lost in translation!

Should I Learn Traditional Chinese Characters?

Moreover, an overwhelming majority of Chinese-language materials, such as textbooks and websites, are predominantly written in simplified characters, making them an essential skill for effective communication and engagement.

3.Native Preference and Everyday Communication:

Simplified characters are widely preferred by native Chinese speakers, particularly in everyday communication. The speed at which simplified characters can be written, along with their simplified shapes that facilitate quick reading, contribute to their popularity and practicality.

Factors to Consider when Deciding to Learn Traditional Characters

Despite the advantages presented by simplified characters, certain factors should be taken into account before deciding whether to also learn traditional characters:

1.Business or Travel in Hong Kong, Macau, and Overseas Chinese Communities:

Individuals with business or travel plans involving Hong Kong, Macau,  or overseas Chinese communities must familiarize themselves with traditional characters. These regions continue to utilize traditional characters as an integral part of their cultural identity and communication practices.

2.Interest in Chinese Culture, History, and Literature:

For those with a strong inclination towards Chinese culture, history, and literature, learning traditional characters becomes imperative. Many classical Chinese texts are exclusively available in traditional characters, and a command of this writing system facilitates a deeper understanding of Chinese cultural and historical aspects.

3.Academic Pursuits:

Students aiming to pursue higher-level Chinese studies, such as in a university setting, might be required to learn both simplified and traditional characters. Academic texts and research papers often utilize traditional characters, and familiarity with this writing system becomes essential for comprehensive study and research.

My take on Leona dream, slight spoilers under

I don’t think Leona actually wants his brother and Cheka dead. I think it’s a case of Malleus taking Leona’s intrusive thoughts and morbid thinking and actualizing it.

I think most people, at some point, thought about not wanting someone in their life. Even if it’s intrusively. Anyone who as siblings probably thought at one point for their siblings to disappear from their life but then the next day your best friends again 😭

I feel like Leona’s dream is similar to Jamil’s. The same what if scenario about someone you have a complex relationship with but not actually wanting that to happen. I think it’s more of Malleus taking a black and white interpretation of people’s thoughts and feelings and not really taking in consideration of the nuances them.

And maybe Malleus own biases seeping in. Like I don’t think he has a good understanding of Leona and Jamil as people so I’d imagine Malleus would take any suppressed feelings and take it at face value because that dream makes them “happy” but fails to understand that won’t create real “joy”?If that makes sense?

Instead of just changing the art style, I tried following the trends of the era to create a whole new design that looked believable for the time. For example, her outfit is based on Squirtle instead of Oshawott in this concept. :>
