🔦SILT : overview, experience, and doodle
recently finished SILT after getting interested through a video essay! the game’s steam description is this:
SILT is a surreal underwater puzzle-adventure game. Alone in an underwater abyss, you are a diver searching the deep to uncover long-forgotten mysteries. Possess the creatures around you to solve puzzles and travel further into the darkness…
the game explores this concept in a sketchy monochromatic style and thought-provoking puzzles. the possession mechanic adds an interesting layer to puzzles unlike stuff i’ve seen before! there’s lots of lore scattered around as statues, cutscenes, and machinery you encounter throughout the game. each of the 4 main areas to explore has its own level of lighting, flora & fauna, puzzle mechanics, and a unique boss that tests the mechanics you learned in that area. an atmosphere of tense underwater discovery is layered on quite well throughout the game, too! the monstrous creature design, droning ambience, sound, and visual style got me immersed real good and helps build tension!
while playing, i headcanoned the diver as an annoyed little man frustrated by his minimum-wage weekly struggles. this may be a thalassaphobic nightmare for you, but it’s just another tuesday for him.
i recommend checking it out! it’s rated mostly positive and is an interesting experience! very good to analyze lore-wise :].
epilepsy warning: there’s no rapid flashing from what i remember, but there are some changes from black to white in cutscenes that could bother some players! examples include big white spinning glyphs that appear as expected triggers at expected times, really bright cinematic moments in-between levels, and maybe some other ambient stuff. nothing too pulse-y that jumped out at me. the choice is yours though!

Stages of Morrowind fast travel awareness :
1. Oh god the rumors were true, there's no fast travel
2. Oh the Silt Striders
3. Huh, there's also boats and the guild guides and intervention spells
4. Where the fucking hell did intervention send me this time. Why is it Ald'ruhn when I was almost on top of Gnisis
5. Mark and Recall HELL YEAH
6. I can barely contain this spaghetti bowl of possible connections in my brain. I have a London taxi cab driver's knowledge of Vvardenfell at this point but I still always end up passing through Ald'ruhn somehow. Vivec City can cry about how important they are all they want. Ald'ruhn is Grand Central Station of this island
7. CHIM

I'm considering getting borrowing BUT I'm. I'm really bad at finding my way around in games and I've heard it doesn't have quest markers?
I get lost very easily even in games with maps etc and appreciate when there's instructions.
Do you think morrowind would be just too, idk, frustrating? I want to know The Lore(tm) and am a big dunmer fan but if the game will just give me a headache then maybe I'll settle for reading the lore
i'm gonna assume that autocorrect didn't like "morrowind" lol
personally, i also get lost very easily in games (and irl to be honest) but i was able to navigate morrowind without much issue. it does give you directions, just not quest markers. you gotta read and listen to what npcs tell you. the game will also usually tell you in your journal something along the lines of "go til you see [xyz], then turn right and go straight til you see [zyx]". that's how it navigates you about and it generally worked well for me. (also, online guides can help you if you get really lost. the game is older than methuselah, there's SO many guides available.)
the dialogue is so fun to explore, the characters are really fun, and the lore is absolutely delicious. the game is butt ugly by modern standards (you can mod it, if that's your style -- personally the butt ugly graphics really grew on me and quit bothering me surprisingly fast), combat is hilariously awkward and weird and honestly bad, and cliff racers exist. (you will understand my hatred of cliff racers if you play. yes, they are a negative point all on their own.)
also worth noting, you better really like to read. 99% of this game is reading. i love this part, i find it very fun, but i know it's not everyone's style.
i will always recommend morrowind, though always with the disclaimer that if you try it out and learn it just isn't for you, that's okay! the lore is cataloged online for that exact reason. :] no pressure either way.
#salem chatter#asks#i personally had a blast rping in the game as rildras' awkward self#because the game really does let you immerse yourself shockingly easily#also the song of silt striders makes me so content

so does marco polo canonically exist in the silt verses universe?
#they might have answered this in a q and a idk i haven’t listened to any#if marco polo existed in that uni you think he was like a saint or god of travel?#maybe it means nothing and they just do “marco polo” as a “haha like the finding people in water game”#but they could have just replaced it with a trawerman katabasian to parallel it#im over thinking this#the silt verses#vio yaps

6 and 7 for the ask game !!
6.) what characters from different podcasts do you think would be friends?
You’re immediately giving me one’s I feel like I have to think about hmm.
Jedidiah (camp here and there) and Carlos (welcome to nightvale) two nerdy ass scientist boys. I’m extending that to their boyfriend/husband aswel, because Sydney and Cecil would get along great too with their brand or weirdness. Both podcasts have a similar vibe to me and I honestly believe they take place in the same universe so they’d get along.
7.) what characters from different podcasts do you think would hate each other?
This one is even harder, cus there’s plenty to choose from… I’ve jokingly made comics of Jonathan Sims and Carpenter hanging out cus I think they’re too similar that they’d start to annoy eachother reaalll quickly.
But I’m trying to think of who you could stick in a room together and not even a second later a fight will break out. Mike Walters with like anyone would end badly I think😭
Yeah let’s throw Mike Walters in with Celia Ripley, time traveler vs dimension traveler, see what happens idk janshsnshjw
