have you seen the new valentine episode for horimiya?? can you write a one shot where the reader gives iura chocolate 🥹 he deserves it!!!
I TRY MY BEST TO DO REQUESTS OLDEST TO NEWEST BUT I JUST WATCHED THIS EPISODE AND I JUST AH MY BOY DESERVES IT
✧Cw: Fluffy fluff, slight implied fem reader (no prns specified though)
✧ Confession, Reader is also a third year, reader and Iura are friends and in the same class
"it's that time of year. Store shelves are gonna be packed with valentine's stuff everywhere." Toru speaks up. "I feel ya man. But... you're one of those guys who are gonna be swimming in chocolate treats so maybe I don't feel ya." Iura sulks, resting his head in his hand. You glance over at him as you nibble at a pastry you'd bought from the cafeteria earlier.
"you already said you did, no take backs." Toru says. "So, any plans for the lovey dovey day?" Iura asks Toru. "Uhm, Practice tying a tie? Yeah." Toru says. "Is that what Miyamura's teaching you now?" Iura questions as you both watched Miyamura attempt to tie Torus tie.
"he said he wanted to practice too." Toru replied. "Tada!" Miyamura said as he finished. Looking at it, it was a mess. Maybe the worst tie you'd ever seen. After a short pause Miyamura spoke up. "It's not appealing at all." "Uh, yeah you think?" Toru remarked. "Damn dude it's impressive how bad that is." You spoke in-between bites. "What is this monstrosity? Uh, it's freaking tight dude! I can't untie your stupid note!" Toru yelled.
Hearing the door crack open, You and Iura peaked around to see sawada peaking in. "Oh hey! Sawada just showed up guys!" Iura loudly announced. "I'm guessing you can for Miyamura." Iura continued as you finished your pastry. "No." Sawada said quietly. As soon as Miyamura greeted her she as usual ran behind him.
"I'm actually here for you Iura." Sawada said. "Me? Really? What's up dudette?" Iura questioned. "Uhm, do you like chocolate? Or no?"
Everyone in the room stood quietly in shock for a few seconds. You looked over at Iura as he looked shocked and shook lightly. "Y-Yes. I like chocolate." He said shyly. "Do you have a favorite?" Sawada asked as you stared in shock still. "No not at all! I love them all! I like bitter or sweet and I have no known allergies, kay!" Iura said with a big smile on his face. You stared at him as you could feel your face getting sweaty.
"So yup! Any kinda chocolate works!" Iura then said. "Got it. Thanks Iura." Sawada said. You could see Iura looking back and forth before reiterateing by yelling; "Any kind at all!"
"You wanna spend time and cash on chocolate for Shuu?" Toru asked. "Wait!" Sawada said surprised. "Shocked anyone besides Hori is on your list." Miyamura said. You nodded as well. "Kinda surprising.."
"Shut your mouths right now before you discourage her you killjoys!" Iura yelled. "Hey if you wanna make me sweets that's your prerogative okay?" Iura says with a hand behind his head. "Ugh- what kind of warped delusion are you living in to think I'd make sweets for you?" Sawada says with a grossed out look on her face. Iura stands there shell shocked. "I'm going back to class, where things make sense." She says as you four watch her leave. Iura stands there shocked still.
"Huh.. What!? She's the one who's not making sense, y'know?! Huh?!" Iura yells in a phrensy. You sigh a bit. Although you felt bad, it was revealing that Sawada wasn't going to give Iura any sweets.
✧
After a while, Iura heads out for the day. You stand slightly awkwardly looking at your feet. "So, bet that was pretty awkward for ya?" Toru teases you as he slaps your shoulder. "Considering you were planning on giving Shu something?" "Toru!" You yelled as you punched his shoulder. "Ah you like Iura, Y/n?" Miyamura asked. "It's pretty obvious." Toru speaks up as you continue hitting him.
You sigh as you finally stop, looking towards the ground as you whip your bag over your shoulder. "I've liked Shuu for awhile now. He's my best friend though. So this I guess will be the test or whatever? Ugh. Why am I even talking to you two about this?" You turn twords the two with a frown. "I need someone like Hori or Yoshikawa." "Harsh." Toru and Miyamura sulk slightly.
"Well, whatever you get him I'm sure he'll go crazy. He's my friend, but he's pretty lonely." Toru says as Miyamura nods. "Thanks for nothing." You sigh as you open the class door. "I'm out, see you tomorrow." "Cya." Toru waves as you close the class door.
Valentine's day is so far away, yet so soon. You were pretty nervous, but still. This was something that had to happen. It is third year after all.
_
The day was here. You'd stayed up late into the night out of fear, but it was finally time. The entire walk to school you were a mess as you shook with nervousness and fear. You inhaled as you looked around the corner to see Iura laughing with a classmate. As you backed away a little, you felt a shove. You looked behind you to see Yoshikawa shoving you with a grin. You hid the gift behind your back before speaking up.
"U-Uhm Shuu?" You mumbled loud enough for him to hear as your blush grew. "Oh, hey what's up N/n?" Iura paused as he saw the blush painting for face. When he saw your hand behind your back his face suddenly also exploded in red.
You stuttered for a second as you took your hands out shakily, revealing a small box wrapped with a yellow and pink pattern and a cd that had a small yellow bow on it. "Happy.. Valentine's day." You said as you held them out towards him. He yelled as he shook his head causing you to jump lightly. He grabbed them from you quickly with stars in his eyes. "Wow really for me?!" He yelled. You nodded as you cracked a smile at him.
"The CD has some new songs I thought you'd like.. I'm not sure if you've listened to them though." You awkwardly laughed. Shuu nodded as he placed the CD under the box and opened it up. There were various different kinds of chocolates all placed neatly in a row. Shuu could feel his face get hotter.
"I made the fillings myself. There's only 3 of them though." You laughed. "Oh! And here," you said digging through your bag pulling out a pink paper bag. "For your sister and you to share.. I made too many for just you." You blushed more.
"Y/n.." Iura looked shell shocked as he just stared at you. He then laughed as he pulled you into a hug. "You're just the person I wanted to receive chocolates from y'know!!" He yelled. You gasped as you felt him slightly rock you back and forth. He backed up a bit, popping a chocolate in his mouth. "Mhm matcha.." he gapped as he spoke with his mouth full. You chuckled as you could feel yourself get nervous again. "so.. Do you.. Uhm." You stopped as you could feel more eyes on you. Suddenly you remembered you were in the hallways. You looked around in embarrassment as you stuck your face in your hands. "I should have chosen a calmer spot!" You yelled, startling Iura.
He then laughed as he closed the box and hugged you again. You slowly took your hands out of you face as you looked up at his face. His goofy grin was replaced with this serious smile, one you'd only really seen at his house.
"I like you too." He said softly. You gasped as you tensed a bit. You then relaxed into the hug as you hugged him back. "Good. Cause those chocolates were hard." You joked.

You take back what you said about fate.
Standing outside of class you eyed everyone who passed by, occasionally earning back a few confused glares. Despite standing there for several minutes you had yet to see the person you were looking for.
The day prior you talked with Miyamura about the mysterious pink guy and he gave you the confidence to try and talk to Yanagi. After all, you had nothing to lose.
The only problem now was that he was nowhere to be seen. After seeing him repeatedly for days he has now suddenly disappeared.
You tapped your foot impatiently. Maybe I should take this as a sign..
Hori peaks out from behind the door. “(Y/n)? What are you doing out here? Class is about to start.”
“I was just.. nevermind..” You sighed and walked back into class.
Hori eyed you weirdly, but said nothing as she walked back to her seat. She had noticed your odd behavior as soon as she saw you enter the class, but didn’t know how to go about asking you what was wrong. Though if she were honest, she had a sneaking suspicion it had to do with the pink haired guy from the other day.
As soon as the two sit down the teacher comes in and starts the lesson. Hori noticed you occasionally looking outside the class window showing the hallway.
You went the whole class without seeing him walk down the hall and eventually the whole school day.
The hallways were unsurprisingly empty.
After lunch you gave up on finding Yanagi, thinking maybe he didn’t show up to school today. When school ended the group decided to stay after class for a bit to continue working on a group writing assignment that needed to be turned in soon.
Everyone noticed you were sulking a bit while working so they called for a snack break, asking you to go get the drinks. You agreed, hoping that the walk would help clear your mind. Now you were on your way back with their drinks.
Maybe I should forget about this whole thing.. You thought to yourself. While walking back you were so lost in thought that you didn’t see where you were walking and bumped into something.
Or rather— someone.
You lost your balance and landed on the floor, the four soda cans in your hands rolling away.
Shit! That’s not—
“Oh! I’m so sorry!” The boy apologized, scrambling to sit up.
When you looked up your jaw dropped. The boy with pink hair and pink eyes, Akane Yanagi, had finally appeared.
He helped you pick up a can before helping you up, continuing to apologize for bumping into you. “I’m really sorry! I don’t have my glasses on and my vision is horrible so I didn’t see you!”
You waved him off while giggling. “Don’t worry about it! No harm done!” Well not yet anyway.. I should probably warn them before they open the soda..
“Still, I feel bad, where are you going? I’ll help you carry them.”
Your eyes lit up at his suggestion. It seemed after your misfortune the stars had aligned for you, maybe it was fate after all.
You handed him two cans and led the way to the room you were working in, making sure to walk at a slow pace to drag out your time with him.
“I didn’t expect to see anyone here since school ended, are you in a club?” You asked, glancing his way.
Now that you got a good look at him, you had to admit, he was really cute. His pink side bangs were cut at a questionable angle, but that only added to his charm in your opinion. His eyes matched the shade of his hair that you couldn’t help but stare; his beauty was on par with Miyamura.
Yet at the same time, something about him seemed different than the boy from your memory.
“I actually forgot something in my class. I was on my way out when I ran into you.” He chuckled softly in embarrassment. “Again, I’m sorry about that..”
You shook your head, “Don’t worry about it! It’s sort of my fault too since I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
His expression tells you he still very obviously feels bad about the situation, but what’s done is done. In fact, you were glad you ran into each other, but you weren’t going to tell him that.
“By the way, what’s your name?”
“My name? Oh right, sorry, it’s Yanagi Akane.”
“Nice to meet you Yanagi, I’m (Y/n).” You giggled. Despite his shyness he was quite easy to talk to, just like Miyamura.
“What are you doing with all these sodas?” He asked curiously. You appreciated his attempt to keep the conversation going.
“I was working on a group project with some friends and got sent out to get drinks.” The door to the classroom came into view and you groaned when you noticed the door was shut.
“Don’t worry, I got it.”
He opened the door and you thanked him, walking in with the drinks. Miyamura was the first to perk up and greet you. “You took awhile, did something happen?” He asked while helping you place the drinks down on the table.
“Oh not really, I just ran into him and he helped me carry the sodas back here.” You gestured to Yanagi, who stood behind you nervously.
Everyone greeted him and he greeted them back. Tooru was the first to reach for his drink.
“Hey Tooru, you might wanna wait a bit before opening that..” You said while backing away.
He shot you a curious look but fiddled with the tab despite your warning. “What are you talking about?—“
Tooru opened the can and (unexpectedly) the soda quickly rushed out, bursting into the air for a couple of seconds before fizzing out and running down the sides of the can. He yelped and held it away from his body in a panic.
“Napkins! Please someone get napkins!”
Yuki rummaged through her bag while Hori quickly gathered the work they’ve done so the soda wouldn’t splatter all over it. Miyamura grabs the napkins from Yuki’s hands and helps Tooru.
“Oh no, did that happen when?!—” Yanagi quickly turned to you for confirmation and all you could do was slowly nod, already knowing he was going to feel bad about the spill.
He quickly began to help clean up the spill on the floor while you got more napkins from the back of the classroom. Once again you felt something strange. While his shy demeanor certainly reminded you of your old friend, there was something about him that didn’t seem right. He was.. different.
You shook the doubts from your mind.
After all, it has been years, it shouldn’t be shocking if he changed a bit.
If Miyamura knew you’d be attached to Yanagi at the hip, he would’ve thought twice about telling you to ‘reconnect’ with him.
“Hey, Miyamura.”
He looked up to see Hori pointing towards the balcony outside the class. “Come with me.”
The way she said it indicated there was no room for him to deny, so he hesitantly stood from his chair and followed her. Immediately the fresh air hit him, it was a nice change compared to the stuffy classroom they were sitting in. The gentle breeze continued to graze Miyamura’s cheeks; it was the transition period between seasons. Change would be coming soon.
“Alright, talk to me.”
His head snapped in her direction, watching her casually lean against the railing. “Um, what?” His confusion was obvious from his tone.
“You’ve been moping around these past few days. The only thing that’s changed is (Y/n), so, something obviously happened.” Hori explained, narrowing her eyes at him.
“Oh, no it’s not what you think!” Miyamura quickly shook his head.
He explained the situation, how Yanagi reminds you so much of his old self that you mistook him for Miyamura, and how he possibly told you to try and talk to him—
“Ow!” Miyamura rubs his shoulder. “What was that for?”
“I can’t believe!—” Hori groans into her hands. “That was the perfect opportunity to tell her it was you!”
“I know! It’s just..” He hesitates. “I’m just scared.”
His words make Hori pause. “Of?”
“What if I tell her and she sees how boring I am? What if I don’t meet her expectations? Its been years, Hori. I’ve changed. What if she doesn’t like the way I’ve changed?”
“Miyamura.” Hori places a hand on his shoulder. “No one can expect a person to stay the same way forever. You’ve changed a lot since I’ve met you, which is probably why she doesn’t remember you, but that isn’t a bad thing. You’re the person she gravitates to the most, she likes you a lot. That should mean something, right?”
He processes her words for a minute before realizing she was right, like usual.
“You’re right.” He chuckled.

Where Hori went wrong with Bakugou
So, a day or two ago I saw an old reddit post quoting Hori explaining why he started to change Bakugou's character.
(I did't save it, because, 1, I don't really do that, and 2, even if I did... I don't actually attach things to my rants? I'm far too lazy to put the work in to try and do that. So.... My source is that I made it the F@#& up, I guess?)
The gist of it was that when Bakugou lost, he cried, right? That was... apparently a moment Hori realized he could have more depth? And basically, because of that realization, he decided he could give Bakugou more any development, and presumably from that point on decided to make him a more important character.
Alright, I... *sigh*
*deep breath*
Alright. Let's start with this:
Bakugou cried because he lost... and this was Hori's great sympathetic, 'I can fix him' moment? I just... I just... what? Why???
*recalls All Might going out of his way to comfort Bakugou and cheer him up, despite the murder attempt he had done a few minutes ago*
...Was he self-inserting in All Might at that moment then?
....
*deeper breath*
Alright.
So there's that. And beyond that... this is connected to something I mentioned before... I'm not sure Hori really knows how to make bad guys with sympathetic traits?
Like, he can make bad guys. And he can give characters sympathetic traits. But when he tries to do them both at the same time, it's like he can't balance the elements right, because he keeps ignoring a point:
Sympathetic character traits do not make a sympathetic character. But Hori seems to assume they do? So he always ends up making a bad guy, who does bad things, and acts in bad ways, but will have random moments where they act radically different for no apparent reason, and are often treated by people around them like they're not acting in horrifying ways all the time.
Because, like, if I spent my life, like... going out murdering people, but when I got home at the end of the day I was... really nice to my pet hamster Fluffles, or something, that's a sympathetic trait. But that doesn't make me a sympathetic person, because... you know, I'm still a serial killer, Fluffles or not.
The problem isn't that he tried to develop Bakugou, or that he wanted to give him traits against his current characterization, because, well, people are complicated. Everyone is complicated, everyone has depths to them.
The problem is he saw 1 (One) sympathetic trait (or, rather, 'sympathetic', because that moment was literally him just throwing a fit over losing, but OK, Hori, you do you), and instead of either, A, using that trait as a launching point to meaningfully change Bakugou's behavior, or B, keep Bakugou as the same character despite this extra information we received, with other characters acting the same way in response to him since they didn't have that information....
He made a radical third option: where Bakugou wouldn't change his behavior, and yet everyone changed how they treated him as if he had changed, and this is the point where things started to go to shit.
Because there were already concerning things with how Bakugou was being treated before this point, true, but it was.... contained. Manageable. His presence in the story made sense, if was over hyped, and how people treated him was somewhat in line with his actual behavior.
After this point? That started to change, and by the time we hit the Sports Festival, Bakugou was a 'new man' who somehow acted almost exactly the same as he did before, which was a theme that would continue to repeat for the rest of the series.

MHA chapter 419 rant
What the actual hell is this chapter ?!?!?!? What is going on horikoshi?!?!??
So suprise AFO IS BACK👎👎👎 seriously what the hell I knew he was gonna come back but he is so boring and I hate him as a villain like wdym you only pulling up with a plan that failed multiple times cos you have thing for your brother like!?!? The doctor and the hero comission could of been better villains. My point still stands AFO being the main bad guy even though this mf was killed and injured by everyone is lame and stupid 😭. Like can AFO just disappear out of existence already like?!?! Also I really doubt that dfo is true considering this guy just loves to act like a season 1 bakugo and call Izuku useless every breathing moment he gets. Also at this point afo out here using shigaraki like a wet human suit thing and that's it
Shigaraki is dead?!?!!!? Vile. Y'all telling me that shigaraki is basically dead this guy basically killed himself after a little fight (it wasn't little that's a hyperbole it was huge he deserves better than this disservice) sigh so shigaraki died with all his memories and the truth of his own origin which is completely sad and wow the amount of retconning for this is insane. Wdym to tell me that AFO needed someone emotionally weak to take advantage of so he chose kotaro, befriended the guy and manipulated him into having Tenko and then used Tenko as his little thing to make the perfect vessel!?!???!? DAM SHIGARAKI IAM SORRRY HORI DID YOU LIKE THIS
Izuku lost two arms and is getting the worst end of the stick as always. As an izuku Stan this isn't it for me like what are you telling me that HE LOST TWO ARMS AND THEN PEOPLE DO COME BUT I AINT SEEING NONE TRYNA HELP THIS GUY. ALSO IZUKU IS NOW ARMLESS AND QUIRKLESS WHATS GOOD ON HERE??!?????!?!? Also looks like izuku out here being the only one who doesn't actually get a full heart to heart with their villain at least ochako and toga were treated better and got that little sob scene where they called eachothers names out and what not but izuku and shigaraki gotta be sentenced to pure suffering for no reason 🤦♀️. Also the whole page is Hella and I mean Hella creepy and off like wth is this it's too gory (I know that's not valid criticism but this is my opinion) Izuku out here being the only one who can't be a proper hero like the guy couldn't even stand up to AFO unlike bk this is just mountains and mountains of disrespect and disservice . SOMEONE CHECK UP ON POOR INKO AND IZUKU
The quirks the backstory the things?!?!. So basically overhaul had the oh quirk or whoever the guy in the picture manga panel thingy which looks like OVERHAUL. This guy had an op quirk like he had the power of destruction and reconstruction but then afo takes that away and then has the doctor somehow somehow genetically modify it ( istg i still dont know how that works or how he could do that) and then TOOK SHIGARAKIS OG QUIRK WHICH (what was his og quirk we arent ever told) and then proceedes to set this child who wanted to be a hero for pure failure. Also what is going on with AFO and kotaros relationship and why does the description of kotaro being mentally/emotionally weak heavily remind me of inko midoriya. Also the RETCON LIKE OH AFO IS LIKE HAVE A KID FOR ME OR SOME BS AND HE HAS A KID AND THEN KOTARO APPARENTLY FULLY LOVES HIS FAMILY HOWEVER IT LOOKS LIKE KOTARO LOVES AFO More THAN HIS FAMILY
Eraserhead making a comeback and finally apologising (or not). I mean at least Eraserhead is back and apologising to his student for failing to be a teacher to him which ok cool cliffhanger I guess. Also where is mic I don't think I can take it if mic is secretly off screened especially cos Eraserhead is crying why is the guy crying like is he crying for izuku which dam as he should your student is dying but he was legit shouting left and right for bakugo 🤷♀️. Also Eraserhead has a lot of apologies for izuku considering how he treated the poor dude. ALSO DOES THIS MEAN OBORO IS BACK TO THE PLOT SOMEHOW ( I love oboro) but how does this work how did it happen how did he break free Iam so confused did much due for oboro or something.
Sato, ojirou and sero out here coming in clutch. but none y'all running to see if izuku ain't gonna die from blood loss or something. Cool entry I guess everyone can take a good fight with AFO but Izuku because hori doesn't like izuku and izuku just sucks!!!. I get it 1A is too big so hori out here needing to give everyone their little moments but like?!?! This just makes afo seem so weak it first went from only all might being the one to even fouch and defeat afo and now its everyone thats not the ofa users which great (sarcasm if you couldn't tell). ALSO THIS MOMENT DONT WORK BECAUSE IZUKU LACKS DEVELOPMENT AND SO DOES 1A and their whole dynamic?!?!?!!!!!???!
I Have ALREADY SEEN THE SHIGARAKI MIGHT COMEBEACK COS AFO CAN HEAR HIS ECHO BUT I DONT WANT HIM BACK AND IF HE DOES HE SHOULD DIE WITH IZUKU COS I GENUINELY GIVE UP
In conclusion, I hope both izuku and shigaraki die and izuku to be remembered as the greatest hero and that's it honestly!!
#mha 419#mha critical#bnha critical#mha#hori is a bad writer#horikoshi critical#izuku deserves better#bhna critical#bnha#shigaraki deserves better#what the hell

Sigh… the newest chapter.
Very beautiful, very wonderful. It’s gorgeous looking, so much time and meaning put behind every single panel.
These two panels have been the most interesting to me though.
The first, where the last tear falls away, and the second, where the first leaves flow freely through the spread.
And don’t you worry, I saw that parallel immediately.
“And save people by winning.”
Still, I can’t help but feel as though these panels are still SO DIFFERENT from then!
First of all, the light in Izuku’s eye, the one that really makes the admiration and love pop in this image—it’s missing. Completely.
And, in the second one, where the tears have fallen and the leaves have come, that one is still shaded in darkness. Izuku still has no light.
So yes, has Izuku calmed down? Absolutely, but it still has this underlying melancholic atmosphere. Everyone else has a sense of success, everyone else is THANKFUL that Katsuki has saved allmight from the brink of death, he has won by saving someone—but don’t we all remember Bakugou Katsuki Rising?
You know, the chapters where everyone thought Izuku was just SO heroic and SO amazing, except for Katsuki who knew that something was very very wrong.
And this time it isn’t Izuku almost dying for everyone’s safety, it’s Katsuki—can Izuku’s heart really handle that right now? Right after he just got up?
Can Izuku control himself under all this weight?
(Ofc I gotta throw in the girls, they’re the representatives of love for this series for christs sake)
Izuku is selfish, we all know this now, so where will this selfishness take him?
Because I know for damn sure that, if I have Izuku’s character right, if I have Hori’s themes down…
Idk I just wanna see him lose control. Right in front of Katsuki. Because my god this boy can mask his queerness when he wants to.
Because what happened to THIS?
Where’s that melodramatic passion?
Why is he not allowed to see it Izuku?
So I can see two ways this can go:
Izuku, at some point while Katsuki is awake and alive, loses his shit at Katsuki getting hurt or a comment that targets Katsuki. The way he WANTS to lose his shit.
Izuku attempts to sacrifice himself much like Himiko did for Ochako, solidifying their parallels even more. (Himiko is not dead and I don’t mean that in the “oh I’m delulu!” way. Y’all it just doesn’t make sense you guys realize that right. The same way it didn’t make sense to kill Katsuki. LIKE COME ON)
Personally, while I COULD see Izuku doing that, because he would do anything for Katsuki, I don’t think he’s gonna have the option to. Not only that, but I think that the first option is far more interesting for ALLLLLL the reasons above.
Izuku is known for being sacrificial, it would be far more interesting to have Katsuki have to assure him and calm him down in some way (it’s also the queer connection. I find this extremely important. We need a scene for bkdk like we had for the spirited away scene for tgck). Not only that but Izuku very much needs to have that moment where the story creates that wall that directly tells him he needs to change. It needs to challenge him, emotionally. And not in the panic, big fight way, but in the “Katsuki has to see the things Izuku still performs for him” way.
Katsuki needs to see how Izuku feels, because Izuku isn’t good at telling him that.
AND HE STILL HASNT
HOW LONG WILL YOU DRAG THIS SLOW BURN HORI IM SO.
Anyway, my main point is that Izuku WONT be able to control himself anymore. Just one more thing, one more comment said in just the right way, and it’s over.
That confrontation is the one that I’m waiting for. Because Izuku still isn’t happy, this chapter isn’t happy—it’s laced with insecurity, despair, heartache, and a deep sense of loss.
And it’s hopeful! Very very hopeful, because that’s what mha IS, but you can’t read this chapter and tell me that Izuku right now is happy, in love, over the fact that it’s Katsuki who has to save allmight.

1000000% agree with you about your takes on the mha ending, it sits so wrong with me that toga, touya and tenko don’t get to be redeemed but don’t get to even survive??? Like they victims of abuse stemming bc of hero society and they don’t even get to live in the ‘new’ ‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’changed’’’’’’’’’’’’’’ world LMAO that’s fucked. ESPECIALLY WHEN NO 1 ABUSER ENDEAVOUR GETS TO NOT ONLY LIVE BUT HAVE THE REDEMPTION ARC??? and to a lesser extent overhaul too??? Like ik he isn’t redeemed in anyway but he gets to live?? The message is soooo depressing when the two most prominent abuse figures get to live but the victims aren’t even worthy of a second chance. This is why we have fanworks ig.
( also this is completely unrelated but who do you think had the best pro hero redesign.for me I think kaminari looks very. nice. and bkgs bomb tassel hair tie things r cute. Also idk why hori felt the need to do a aizawa shinsou hair transplant 😭😭😭😭 like
shinsou: where is mr aizawa???
mic: who do u think gave you the hair….)
listen,.,..,i can excuse murder (touya), but i draw the line at child abuse (endeavor) lol. i hadn't even been thinking about overhaul!!! yeah, why does he get to live when, out of the the villains besides AFO, he's the one with the worst intentions?? why give us a found family if they're gonna be torn apart forever?? sigh. how would you have approached the endeavour and overhaul stuff??
at this point, i kind of hope we all stay in collective denial and keep our fandom standard of, like, baku/todo/deku as the top three heroes, complete with OFA. it's not that i'm mad deku lost OFA; that could make sense narratively, but it's that he gets iron man-ed up that pisses me off. it's like a retraction that being quirkless is fine, since deku needs that power to hang out with his friends. sigh. sigh. sigh.
well! i'm finally glad yaoyorozu got fabric to cover her boobs. she deserves it. i liked the flashes of jirou, eri, and sero that we got. and this is me projecting, but a lot of them having long hair down while they fight seems impractical. i know hair growth/cutting is a primary way to show time has passed, but i especially think mina could have trouble with her longer hair--looks cool but might get in the way of her acid.
and i will say that i much prefer aizawa's and shinsou's old hairstyles. and lololol kirishima looks like he's drawn in a completely different manga with how detailed and buff he looks; good for him. i need to yank bakugou's explosion tassel things i need to bite them grrr grr bite bite bite definitely not the design i was expecting but definitely interesting!!!! and that closeup panel we got of shouto.... 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀 what a h*nds*me man. despite the weird storytelling choices lately, the art remains very, very beautiful. hori is very good at drawing interesting designs and beautiful people, and there must be an odd pressure to draw really well when your whole cast is hot. so, at least the art hasn't fallen off.
i hope we can all keep making fun art even though the series has been strange at the end!!! thanks for your thoughts; i need to hear everyone's take on this bizarre turn of events

Oh I remember this point, AT LEAST. Why? I tried to remember last night but forget.
The point is The Boys HQ and Kickass HQ are comics from the 200ish and is basically "Hero is bad" but in the kickass is differently.
Hear me out, bc I hope to make sense (I often say this bc in my mind I have long put essays and translate them to English is a chore)
Kickass, write by Mark Miller is a story of a loser (incel) who is a fan of comic books. There no powers in this story. The mc (forget the name but it doesnt matter) sufferes an accident and undergo a surgery where it made his skeleton stronger and more resiste t. "Ah like Wolverine" yes and no. His skeleton is stronger than mine ans yours but he can die EASILY.
Then once getting this "power" he decides to be a hero....for fame, of course. He also wants to impress the prettiest girl in the HS. And fails, he has no training, no real power and became a joke.
The girl is not impressed and think he is a lunatic( caveat here, dude has a secret id) well, the girl notices his bruises(remember? He can die easily) and is concerned and the mc takes an opportunity to lie and tell he is gay...so he can be closer of the girl. Who took pity of him and became his friend.
Which yes is canon.
Eventually the truth cames out and he got beat up him...
Why am I mentioning this? Bc I want to understand what is the point of MHA. Kickass is a story that says clearly "only a lunatic would want to be a super hero"
But the same logic cant be apply to MHA sense...it is a job, one many people sough for. Then...why Izu is the one getting the shortest end of the stick?
Hori cant claim, like Marl Miller (who is now a nutcase) "hero bad" to justify his own mc'a treatment...so why?
Hori hating his own mc is an answer(sigh, doubt the others mangakas will offer real critics to his writing. The manga community seems to be "fake till you make it") and it ruins his own story. It is possible to make a story where your mc gets karma...but IT NEEDS TO MAKE SENSE. It is amazing Mark Miller made sense in his comic, Hori didnt. And MHA is to be for young boys and family friend, Kickass is a edgy comic book for boys in puberty.
Hi @mikeellee 👋,
Exactly, other stories like you mentioned the MC's did something that made dunking on them somewhat justified I.e the MC of Kickass.
In MHA with Izuku there's none of that so it just feels mean spirited - there's no humour to see him be dunked on and take it with a smile. I find I just feel sad for him especially this moment
What did Izuku do to deserve this? Nothing but be proud of himself but that to the Author of MHA and Bkg himself is enough and warrants... Brain damage.
Yet Bakugou can treat everyone around him like trash, threaten to kill people, physically harm others under the teachers noses and no one, not even his classmates, care. Bakugou gets no slapstick hurt even though he's done more to deserve it than Midoriya ever has.
Wow.

Heeeyooo~ less talking more writing.
I'll cut to the chase. I'm writing for Horimiya again but this time for everyone's favourite couple Hori and Miyamura.
Enjoyy~
Warning spoilers alert
Sweetest bad boy~
Hori Kyoko loved the bad boy Izumi Miyamura way too much.
She felt a sudden excited thrill whenever he -at her request -shows his abusive side. Of course, she wanted to experiment with another thing along with this bad ass side.
"Miymura..." she asked Izumi, who had been reading a book, for once engrossed in something since it was raining heavily outside.
He smiled gently "Yes?"
Her heart skipped a beat. He's so cute when he's this sweet. But... her objective.
Snuggled close to him, she can see he was expecting something and was polite enough to stop his own activities, "Can you... um, do that again?"
He tilted his head in confusion but when she made that face he sighed then let out a whine "Horii-san pleeeease, you know that's..."
She pouted now, "Just a little while... pleeease"
Why, why does she like this? He thought, suddenly lost. As always she would want him to either scold her with brutal words and aggressively shove her when he deliberately feels more hurt in doing so. Yet, seeing that face makes him feel even more... worse.
Shifting at his pace, he thought "Oi! What are you staring at Kyoko?"
The tone of Izumi made Kyoko's trembling lips smile automatically with excitement. She shook her head with a giggle. "Nohothing! Hehehe,"
He would shove her till she fell on her elbow, even with the look of concern he can tell she'd rather embellish this new hot, scary, violent Miyamura. He wished she didn't find any pleasure in this.
"Well, read a book and make yourself useful bitch!" He almost stammered the last part, a muffled squeal of excitement escaping as that made her nod vigorously
He sighed now back to reading the novel, indeed, he wondered if masochists are really entitled to such abusive pleasure... he shuddered feeling frightened.
"Izuumi~"
He blushed, she never used his name before. She looked teasing, but her eyes said to keep the act. He gruffly turned away now using the book to hide his face "Yeah what woman?"
"Poke..."
He jumped when he felt the electric touch on his ribs and blinked a couple of times.
"H-Hori san..."
"Izumi are you ticklish?"
Whoa whoa, Izumi was at a trance, is she a sadist now, because her eyes had the lingering pleasure in seeing him in such squirmy plight. He felt another poke now "O-Oi! Whahahat is this madness?"
Even if he didn't mean to, his irked attitude still bloomed its way on to him.
"OK, so this is something I wanted to experiment on," she said, sticking her tongue playfully.
"W-whahahat?" He dropped the book now covering his midriff as he giggled when she began to raise to fingers in midair, taunting him.
"How you can be a sweet bad boy as well... you know a weakness?"
"Buhuhut Hohohori sahahan" Izumi squirmed as she pinned him down now feeling her fingers descend on his stomach, making him hiccup giggles against his will.
She hummed. "Where is that Izumi? I'm waaaaiting~"
OK, he's pissed now. What is this silly charade?
He pushed her back instead, now pinning her wrists, showing dominance for once with his own will. Her blush indicated the same excitement for his bullying power.
However... did she plan this?
She nipped his ear, and he shrieked, "WAHAHait!" Backinf off but grabbing his wrists, she was the one pinning him instead.
"Neee~ that was sooo good, I'm soo happy!"
She kissed his neck in a tickly manner, all the while having his wrists restrained. He cried out in panic now "HAHAHA SEHEHERIOUSLY STAHAHAHP IT! CUT IT OHOHOUT YOU DAHAHAMN WOMAN!"
She let out an aroused sigh bit didn't ease on the tickling "Amazing... I'm enchanted by you Miya -I mean Izumi"
She was the one embarrassed to use his first name... God, she's definitely the strongest in a tickle fight, note not to initiate one.
"Ahahahaha shihihit!"
"Wow," her tone excited yet again "This was a success, bad boy Izumi with sweet giggles, I'm totally loving this"
"AHAHAHRE YOHOU HAPPY NOHOHOW? SOHOHO KNOCK IHIHIT OHOHOFF!" He freed his arms and tried to tickle her back, but it was hard when he was already dead on energy. She mercilessly aimed for his armpits, which made him arch and slide away from her, though she was fixated on fulfilling her mission.
After forever. Izumi breathed. He grabbed his stomach and growled with giggles, "Yohohou..."
She smiled cheerfully "Yeah? Sorry but... I wondered if bad boy Miyamura getting tickled is very influential and turns out..." her blush deepen "It sure is!"
He looked away with the same flushed embarrassment as before, saying "W-whatever makes you happy Kyoko"
She widened her eyes, now snuggled closer to him, hugging his waist as she pressed her face to his chest.
Warm. He's so warm and thin. To think she loved this sweet and gentle Miyamura to abuse her. She feels like an abuser too but...
Looking back at his, still flustered, but relieved face. She wanted to his kind soul to show her things she never seen before. She tickled him ample times but, the way he laughed and giggled here was insanely different.
She giggles once more before closing her eyed and rubbing her thumb on his shoulder "Well, I'm really grateful Izumi"
"Me too, Kyoko," he sighed now with a smile, stroking her hair.

Title: Water Gun
Rating: G
Characters: Hori, Kashima, Drama Club
Summer Days
“Alright, here they are,” Hori said as he displayed the table filled with water guns. “Pick which one you want to use for rehearsal.”
Koji, one of the junior members sighed, as he picked up a green plastic one. “We’re really going to use water guns?”
“Well, we can’t use real guns,” Hori said as the rest of the members picked theirs and he snagged a blue plastic gun. “And will probably help to get into character if you can actually feel being hit by a ‘bullet’.”
“I still think it’s kind of lame-HEY!”
Kimura, another junior member, pulled back her dripping gun as Koji shook the water off his face.
“Sorry, my finger slipped,” she said.
Hori raised an eyebrow, but decided to leave it be as he reached for the script. “Alright, let’s not waste anymore time.” He glanced around and frowned. “Where’s Kashima?”
“She’s not here yet,” one of the other senior members said from the back. “I saw her talking to a group of her fans on the way here.”
Hori rolled his eyes. “I’m giving her five minutes and then I’m fetching her. Now then-”
“Hey!”
Hori sighed and looked up.
Koji was again wiping his face while Kimura grinning like a cat given it’s cream.
His eyes twitched. “Guys, knock it off.”
“It’s not my fault,” Koji snapped and pointed. “Kimura keeps shooting me with the water gun.”
“But it was an accident,” she said in an overly innocent voice and then her eyes sharply narrowed. “Just like it was an accident’ when you stepped on my crown.”
Hori pinched the bridge of his nose. Not this again.
Koji tossed his hands up in the air. ‘For the last time, I said I was sorry!”
“Sorry, doesn’t bring back the week I spent working on that thing!” Kimura snapped back. “Props aren’t easy to make you know.”
Koji glared and then held up the water gun.
“No, don’t-” Hori cried, but it was too late.
Not for Kimura, she ducked, however the club member behind her wasn’t so lucky and got struck in the face.
She yelped in shock and within seconds shot back at Koji. He managed to dodged, leaving the junior club member behind him to get hit.
The boy fumed and raised his own gun.
Hori was about to yell ‘Stop’ except another voice cut him off.
“I’m here,” Kashima cried as she appeared with four of her fangirls. “Sorry, I’m late.”
Time seemed to have slow down.
A shot of water went flying.
The targeted girl ducked.
Kashima was struck in the face.
All of the club members froze as Kashima yelped and wiped the water off her face.
“What the hell guys?!” she called.
No one could answer.
Everyone’s blood ran cold as Kashima’s fans glared down at the club with fury in their eyes.
After that, everything was a blur. Hori remember lots of yelling, a lot of water and a lot of wet clothes afterwords.
Needless to say, water guns were banned from the drama club after that.

What do you think of ppl saying MHA recently 'fell off' and the story's going in a 'less interesting direction'? I seen some say Hori is either rushing the story or reiterating story points that have already been established, when those exact same people want to dehumanize the LOV and relegate the villains to 'psychopaths who can't be saved so they need to be put down'. It's just funny to me that people say the story fell off when this was ALWAYS the direction the manga was going like??
Sigh
Well I'm gonna be very very general here and completely ignore the reality of the fandom and only explain what I've seen myself, and divide the fandom into three broad categories:
People who just read for fun and are just along for the ride, taking whatever comes as it may, and don't particularly care about what happens
People who read the story and analyze the fuck out of it trying to deep dive into the art and dialogue and figure out what's going to happen next and what certain things mean, AND care very deeply about the direction the story is taking
And then people who read the story and follow it closely, AND care very deeply about the direction the story takes, BUT don't bother to think very hard about what they're reading because they expect it to be spoon fed to them
You can probably tell which category I'm about to talk shit about lol
The only people I have seen say that the writing has taken a downturn or "fell off" are people who either are finding out that their takes and predictions are wildly wrong and canon has not upheld their theories, opinions of the characters, and the themes, OR people who focused on certain parts of the story and are upset that those parts aren't getting focus here in the final stretch.
I included that last sentence because I've seen some blogs that I used to typically agree with on many fronts (and some not, but still have decent takes on occasion) be very upset with the story as of late. And to each their own! Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion! But based on the people I'm referring to who are saying these things, I'm honestly not sure what their reasons could be for saying that about the story aside from.....they just aren't getting focus where they want it. Idk.
But the obvious group of readers that I think are saying this shit are the people who were so hellbent on having a basic bitch story (which btw, BNHA is kind of basic as it entails every typical shounen trope in existence almost) that doesn't explore complicated, complex, morally grey areas and just focused on fights, badass moves and action scenes, and having a power fantasy character lead the way to the ending. I don't have a presence on twitter (for a reason) but the people I see say this crap are primarily the people on twitter who say some of the most outlandish things that I wonder if they're actually even looking at the same manga panels that I am lol.
Basically, TL;DR: People who were so sure that the story would take a certain direction are now finding that their takes were wrong and are mad about it, so they have to defend their past opinions by saying that the "writing is bad". When in actuality, many many people called the current state of the story from a million miles away (I literally.....thought ALL of this shit would happen the second I saw the mall scene, literally), and therefore I'd say it's hard to call it bad writing when everything necessary in the story for the current chapters has BEEN THERE the whole time. And many, many people called it.
Yeah that's my salty rant lol
#bnha#bnha asks#anonymous#bnha 349#the writing isn't bad y'all just didn't pay attention#i mean i guess you can still call it bad if you just genuinely think the story is shit#nobody can stop you#but for those who say it's bad in order to defend their past takes that have been proven wrong#we all know#we saw#don't try to lie#lol

Anon said: i love love love LOVE how you just draw gojo leaning onto getou, hiding his face in getou's neck or back or chest <////3 im just so heartbroken over those two
So glad to hear you like him clingy as much as I do!! TT^TT as far as I’m concerned he wasn’t clingy enough in canon, so I’m fixing it as much as I can with every new doodle haha
Anon said: whenever im sad i just come to your account and look through your art :")) it brings me so much comfort :')) also i gotta mention that the teacher getou art you've made has healed my broken heart bc of jjk and now that is the only canon i accept thank you very much gege akutami has nothing on me
GAH GETO-SENSEI MY ONE AND ONLY I’m happy he makes you as soft as he does me, he’s such a comfort to me ;;;; and thank you for liking my stuff!!!! Means the world to me to hear it ;A; <3
Anon said: I miss your krbk sm 😔 No pressure intended!!!!!! I still love and support u and ur art!!!
Man I miss them too!!!!! @ hori when are you bringing my loves back from the war I’m here waiting good sir!!!
Anon said: v v curious on your thoughts on what’s currently going on in bnha manga :)))
HMMM what are my thoughts on it? Well, let’s split it in two: Deku’s side and Todoroki’s side, because that’s how it’s split in my brain atm, and allow me to start from the second because it’s easier to get through for me
I’m in love with everything Hori is doing with Todoroki and everyone involved with him - that’s to say his whole whole family and Hawks and Jeanist too, all of it, I’m so into it it’s no joke at all. Always been in love with how he handles Enji’s character and his interactions with his family and the latest developments didn’t disappoint me at all, wasn’t very much into Dabi right after the “reveal” but the more I think about it and about the story from his pov the more behind it I am, forever and always head over heels for Shouto’s way of dealing with a situation that’s as complex as one would expect from a protagonist of their very own story you could really make a manga out of the Todoroki’s family plot from Shouto’s pov alone, it’s incredible I can’t state how in love with it all I am enough. And Hawks, don’t make me start on him I’ll straight up never stop, absolutely and most definitely my favorite pro-hero I would trust him with my money and my kids 100/10 just assume I’m constantly crying over him. Also Jeanist is just hilarious so bless him and his presence in an otherwise too heavy story
Deku’s side........ well, the main problems I have with it are that one, I don’t really understant the need to keep ofa a secret from the class for the biggest part of the story when the reveal wasn’t forced upon Deku, didn’t have a huge impact on him or his relationship with the others (his leaving wasn’t directly caused by him coming clean after all, he wouldn’t have had to leave earlier had he not kept it a secret and he would have still left at this point had the class already known all along) and didn’t, like. Matter. All that much. Two, this manga is called my hero academia and I’m genuinely starting to wonder why. What was the point of all the arcs set inside the school anyway? Most of the characters growth (Deku’s especially) and the progression of the main plot happened in the arcs outside of the school anyway, and at this point it’s clear we’re not going back to the school after this or even seeing anyone graduate. What of Shinsou? What was the point of his plot when we’re not even gonna see him being active part of the class in a school environment? I’m just confused about it all, I guess. Three, which is really my biggest problem with it all, is the way Deku’s set on saving Shigaraki. It’s not like I don’t like a story in which all the villains are saved and the good guys win and love prevails and all that, call it corny but they’re exactly my type of stories, but I’m not sure I can get behind it when Twice died like that, and Midnight did as well, and Aizawa lost a leg, and Nighteye died, and Hawks might have lost his wings, and Shirakumo ended up Kurogiri and it’s still unclear whether he can be saved, like... why does Shigaraki get to be saved when so many people suffered like that? And it’s not only about them suffering by his hands, it’s about Hori and how he was ruthless with so many characters but lets the story show arbitrary kindness to Shigaraki alone, it’s all... well. Unfair. The way I see it. At this point I at the very least expect kindness for Touya as well, here.
That said if I pick the chapters one by one by themselves I do enjoy them very much. I just don’t gotta think about the big picture lmao AH but it’s all a personal opinion, of course! I know people who enjoy the way the story is going and I can see where they’re coming from, this is all arbitrary tastes and preferences on my part, I’m aware of it!
Anon said: Hi hi! I finally got into jjk AND finally caught up on the manga and i appreciate your doods soooo much more now!! They’re so great!! But imcurious, is there one specific moment in the story where you Gojo and Geto became IT for you? Just genuinely curious!!
THANK YOU happy to hear you liked jjk!!!! And that’s!!! a great question, I’m not sure I have an answer actually? I binged the manga in a day and a half, you see, and when I binge stuff that fast I rarely stop to overthink things - I did ship them as I read too since, well. They’re in love lmao but I shipped them in the same way I shipped itafushi or yuutoge after I read the prequel, you know? Just a general aknowledging of how good they were together. The main point with satosugu specifically was probably that satoru has been my favorite character since the beginning of the story and suguru got there as well as soon as I read their backstory, so once I was caught up they’re the ones I ended up spending the most time thinking about, both by themselves and together, and that ended up making me a bit obsessed..... just a bit lol
If I had to give one specific moment that got me by the heart and squeezed the hardest it’d be... probably Satoru’s “my soul knows otherwise”. And the way his voice alone could bring Suguru back, even for just a single moment. The thing about satosugu for me!!! one of the many things about them, but the main thing for me, is that they love each other. Be it platonic or however you wanna see it, they love each other. Despite everything and after it all, even if Satoru had to kill Suguru, even if Suguru killed so many and betrayed Satoru and they went their separate ways in the harshest of ways, they love each other. It’s insane, isn’t it? That they’d love each other so much they could pass over everything and anything. I’ve seen the “best friends become enemies” trope so often in shounen manga, but this is the first time I see it treated like this - with love so strong that they never blamed each other or turned that love in hate. The way satosugu do it is all-encompassing! It goes beyond the world and their differences and death itself! So if I had to pick it’d be that one, because that scene happens after it’s all over, and it all went to shit and way beyond too already, and still their souls resonate with each other and answer to each other and that sends me insane, just thinking about it. Like, god, they really still love each other. Satoru’s mourned for Suguru for a year, Suguru’s been dead for a year, they’d been separated ten whole years before then, and still! And still!!! It’s so tender I don’t know how to deal with it
Anon said: “What’s a god to a nonbeliever?”—That tag is going to haunt me for a while. The entire tag section for your latest Gojo and Geto drawing is meta-worthy.
THANK YOU it’d been eating at my brain I had to write it down somewhere why are those two like that
Anon said: Do you take commissions? No pressure! ✨❤️
Not right now!
Anon said: How do you feel about sukuna ? like/dislike or thoughts on him
AMAZING QUESTION I love him. I have absolutely zero clue as of why so don’t ask me to elaborate, I’m literally that marge pic with the potato when it’s about Sukuna, I have no meta thoughts about him nor deep reasonings behind it - by all accounts, I should dislike him! But he shows up and I’m like nghhh king, so that’s where we stand. It’s Sukuna, you know. I just think he’s neat.
Anon said: sighs time to get into another fandom bc i simp too hard for ur art 😔
HAH thank you for the trust I hope you’ll like ror if you do get into it!!! hahaha

Evolution on Todomomo (and how its not as a bad as alot of people in the fandom are making it out to be)
Now I’ve been meaning to make a post in defense of Todomomo because from what I see on bnha twt a lot of people just resort to calling the two of them “boring” or making claims that Momo is a lesbian and Shouto as gay (which are fine to head canon if they are a comfort for you) but in the context that most people use to hate on todomomo I see this being used as a way to dismiss the pair
I first want to link this tumblr post that list some of the todomomo moments (whether they are subtle or moments that mean alot more then what mets the eye)
https://mysterylover123.tumblr.com/post/184164201991/top-todomomo-moments
Todoroki and Momo both got in to U.A by recommendations:
I know that this dosen’t really mean alot in terms of a moment but its just something I wanted to point out in terms of a similarity. Being taken in by recommendations is a huge thing as it shows the audience that both of their skill levels have already been observed by U.A.
Importance of Todoroki praising Momo during the Final Exams:
With this topic I feel that those who tend to claim that the ship is “boring” or just wouldn’t make sense in canon fail to see the significance of that moment. I have to say that I am a bit surprised that alot of the hate comes from Shouto stans. The reason I say this is because that moment of recognition on Momo’s end wasn’t only a benefit for her character (since she finally heard someone tell her that they trust her and believe in her) but Shouto’s as well (since that moment was the first time that the audience saw Shouto taking what he learned from Midoriya at the sports festival about seeing the best in others and using that to help someone else).
For Shouto’s character something such as being able to help others is big for his character since the Final exams arc came in the second season. In specific he told her that he voted for her whenever the class was doing the class representative elections because “I thought you were good at that sort of thing.” that scene showed the audience that Shouto has some admiration for her and that he was one of the only students to analyze Momo’s self confidence issue and try and help her. Because of his honesty she was able to bounce back and find a way for the two of them to beat Aizawa during their final exams
Also going further back from the final exams arc we had a subtle todomomo indication and that was when she was picked to be on Todoroki’s calvary team (that moment showcased Shouto recognizing the strength that Yaoyorozu had hence why he picked her to be on his team) Sure he could have chosen anyone else instead of her but something small and barely much to look into detail will always be a form of foreshadowing on whats to come for later.
But Deku and Bakugou have more growth with Shouto:
I’ve heard this reasoning many times as well (which no one can deny the importance that Bakugou and Midoriya have in Shouto’s life). Midoriya even emphasis that Shouto is “his friend.” and this might just be me being a bit peeved but its a bit hypocritical whenever Todomomo shippers will just enjoy their moment in the final exams arc and antis will make the “but they only had one moment.” counter argument even though no one says anything when it comes to Midoriya calling Shouto a friend (which isn’t meant in a romantic sense).
Now considering that Midoriya is the main character of the series it makes a lot of sense for him to be involved in Shouto’s character arc (which is about the unveiling of his family).
I truly wonder where the whole “Bakugou had more growth with Shouto.” argument came into play. From what we know about their bond in canon they bicker and banter (showcasing a playful bond that makes the audience smile) which is a good thing but we never really see the characters either break the others walls to learn more about them or influence each other and make each other stronger. So when I see people compare this to todomomo I kind of just sigh. Sure Todomomo might have less moments then that pair but what Shouto has done to help Momo’s self confidence has carried with her from that point onward in the story. We now see Momo creating plans and being much more confident in herself (I mean when she created the sedative to make Machia go to sleep she showed a side to herself that Shouto already saw in her).
In the case of Midoriya and Todoroki’s bond that same method of helping others has been applied to Shouto’s character during the Sports festival where he tells him that his power “is his not his fathers.” which knowing Izuku thats the kind of person that he is; as a audience we are able to see that he is kind in nature and is known for creating bonds. That moment is truly important for Shouto as a character (which i’m glad the fandom dosen’t tear apart) So my question is for those who stan Shouto is if you are able to accept Izuku’s kind nature of helping Shouto why must Shouto’s moment of helping Yaoyorozu be swept under the rug and just referred to as “boring.”
I mean if anyone truly looked at the final exams moment and only thought that it benefited Yaoyorozu then you skipped over some of the subtle hints Horikoshi has been putting into their dynamic. Yes; it helped Yaoyorozu as a character believe in herself and to trust her decision making but at the same time it showed us that Shouto is perceptive and can give good advice when needed (as well as thinking more about others instead of what he did pre sports festival).
Kamino Ward arc:
During this arc whenever Bakugou was captured. Trust was built between the two character as Momo tells both Kirishima and Todoroki that she “trusted todoroki” hence her involvement in helping them find their friends. At first she was reluctant but agreed when the two boys asked her.
Provisional License exams:
Small subtle moment that Hori put in their is whenever the audience saw Midoriya worried for Shouto (since he ended up failing the exams) we got to see Momo’s expression of worry as well. I know this dosen’t mean much but alot of the Todomomo moments that we do get are subtle like that. Even a small facial expression will mean something in the long run.
Two Heroes:
Again, another small moment of Todoroki using his ice to get everyone to leave the area while he fought some of the movie villains and Momo calling out his name in worry (its a common trope to have one person stay behind while the other is hesitant on leaving them) I am aware that this movie was more Bones heavy rather then Horikoshi but I don’t believe the studio would try any subtle hints of anything unless Horikoshi might of told them something regarding the pair.
Pro Hero Arc:
Like the Two Heroes Todomomo moment we also see Momo look over to Todoroki in worry (as well as the rest of the class) but seeing almost 3 moments where she is present and worried for him whenever Todoroki is either in some emotional state or just focused on something isn’t just for show. Horkoshi could have easily left her out but he wants the audience to see that Todoroki and Momo will have more conversations in the near future.
Joint Training:
In this arc Todoroki makes small comments during Kendo vs Yaoyorozu
"If Kendo separated Yaoyorozu from her team out of caution, then I think she's misjudged her."
"If she actually wanted to be cautious of Yaoyorozu, she should have crushed her 4 on 1 with her entire team's power right from the outset."
With these lines he show the audience how perceptive he is about the fight and shows some interest towards it. Shouto also believes in her abilities by making that first statement on Kendo misjudging Momo. However when Yaoyorozu lost to Kendo he comments
"...I hope she doesn't get all discouraged again."
Again he shows worry for her as he has already seen her doubts come full circle during the Final Exams arc. It also shows the significance that arc was for his relationship with Momo. He shows concern for her and dosen’t want her to feel discouraged over her loss against Kendo (despite the improvement she has shown us since that arc Shouto still holds a level of care for her).
So to only make claims such as “todomomo only had one moment” that character defined moment wasn’t swept under the rug as we have seen Momo’s insecurities being brought up again by Shouto (who might I add is the only student to know the full extent of them).
Drama CD: Ennichi Festival:
In this drama cd we had Todoroki and Momo spend the night together at the festival that they were at and Shouto opens up about his family to her. In this drama cd he felt like he was bothering her with all this info and Momo is the one to reassure him that he isn’t and that he should be more open about his feelings. Again a moment like this is good for Shouto since he is well known for keeping his feelings to himself (for him to have that type of reassurance would allow him to be more comfortable in his own skin).
You could say in a way that their roles were reversed from how they acted in the Final Exams with this time Shouto showing a bit of insecurity and uncertainty while Momo initiates a method to help him.

Last Christmas
Pairing: Hawks x Reader
Rating: E for Everyone
Warnings: FLUFFFFFFFF, Also it’s a bit self indulgent, YOLO
Word Count: 2.5K
A/N: Happy birthday to my baby daddy and a character who deserves so much fucking happiness (Seriously Hori let my baby be happy dammit!). Hey @freyafolkvangr remember when I talked about the Hawks Christmas fic?!?!!? WELL HERE YA GO BABYYYY. I hope you like it because I’m dedicating it you and Bird Daddy. 💖 Anywhoo I hope yall enjoy!
P.S. The conversation reader and Hawks have about the song Last Christmas is absolutely an actual conversation I’ve had with someone before lol. Last Christmas is in fact my favorite Christmas song!
The fresh smell of the cotton sheets and the warm sensation of the heavy blankets on the bed is in stark contrast to the chilly air swirling in the bedroom. Hawks stretches a hand out sleepily to pull you closer to him and steal your body heat. When his fingers graze an empty pillow, his eyes shoot open. The sheets are still warm from where you were lying peacefully beside him.
He raises from the bed, his golden eyes flicking quickly around the room searching for you. The bathroom light isn’t on so he knows you aren’t up having a midnight pee break. He calls out for you softly first, “Dove?”, before raising his voice to call your name when he doesn’t hear you respond.
His heart skips a beat, as he flings the blanket off of him and runs out of the bedroom. He moves so fast he doesn’t realize he’s hovering as he races down the stairs. He stops in his tracks when he sees you sitting on the fluffy cushions of the bay window in front of the lit Christmas tree.
He sighs in relief as he watches you stare out the window in wonder, humming a song softly to yourself. The warm golden lights from the tree fill the room in a soft glowing light that illuminates your face. He can see the vapors of your breath and he shakes his head as he grabs a blanket from the basket near the couch.
You don’t notice him yet still watching the fluttering snowflakes fall and stick to the window. Hawks watches you, now moving quietly so he won’t disturb your peaceful moment. He recognizes the song you're humming and smiles to himself. He remembers the first day he met you and how the very song you’re humming was what brought the two of you together.
“Man this stuff gets harder and harder to fly in every year. No wonder birds migrate every winter,” Hawks says to himself as he flies through the powder filled sky. He’s wrapping up his daily patrol, making one final surveillance check as he swoops in and out of the buildings. He’s ready to be home and out of the cold. A hot bowl of ramen and a sweet hot drink is calling his name.
He lands on a short building near a shopping area to rest and warm his hands. He makes a mental note to grab warmer gloves the next time he’s out on patrol, when he sees a car speeding along the road. It’s not going incredibly fast but it’s faster than the rest of the cars who are driving with caution due to the weather and it catches Hawks attention.
He wants to go over and tell the person driving the car to slow down in this weather but he assumes a traffic cop will take care of it. Yet he doesn’t take his eyes off of the car as it continues down the street to turn into the shopping center.
He focuses more on the person driving the car, trying to see if he might recognize who’s driving and genuinely curious at who’s brave enough to drive like a maniac in this weather. His skillful eye sight allows him to focus and make out that the person is you bobbing and dancing along in your car to the radio.
There’s so much joy on your face and Hawks can tell from your body language that you’re singing at the top of your lungs and really enjoying yourself. You’re moving your arms and making facial expressions as you belt out the lyrics and Hawks finds himself trying to figure out what song you’re singing. He strangely feels drawn to you, like he wants to be in the car singing with you.
You make the turn into the parking lot of the shopping center and Hawks focuses even more on your lips, trying to decipher what you’re singing. He figures it out as you pull into a parking space and take the key out of the ignition. His curiosity takes hold of him, he finds himself wanting to know more about you, despite only seeing you for a few minutes. You sit in your car for a bit, probably letting the song play and dancing more to yourself.
He takes out his phone quickly and pulls up the song and plays it through his headphones. It is the song he’s thinking of and he’s perplexed. The lyrics are just as sad as the melody and yet you’re singing it so jauntily. It isn’t over in his headphones when you step out of the car, but he knows that he has to go and speak to you.
He pauses the music and flutters down as you walk to the entrance of the store. When he approaches you, you’re humming the song to yourself. He stops in front of you, stretching out his wings like a show pony and smiling his flirty “I’m a pro hero smile” at you.
“Last Christmas huh? That’s a good one. I was just listening to-”
“I don’t want to buy anything, sorry.”
You rush past him with an apologetic smile and he stands there dumbfounded. Before he can turn around to tell you he’s not selling anything, you’re lost to a rippling wave of people surrounding him and asking for his autograph or a picture.
--
He spots you again, three days later walking or more so hobbling down the busy city street. Your arms are stacked with several colorfully wrapped boxes and packages. They’re piled in a neat stack but obstruct your view. Hawks can tell it’s you because you’re gleefully singing the song again. He tunes into the way your voice wraps around the melancholy melody and strangely changes it to something uplifting and beautiful. He is intrigued, is it your quirk? Or maybe you’re just that charismatic.
He watches you weave through the bustling crowd, balancing the boxes as you hustle quickly down the street. He watches you from the top of a nearby building as the boxes teeter on the edge and a very rude person clips your shoulder.
Streaks of crimson rush to the scene and catch the boxes before they fall to the squishy snow covered ground. He’s in front of you in an instant, holding the boxes and catching you before you fall to the ground as well. He dips his arm behind your waist and pulls you close to his body.
Your shocked expression is cute as your eyelashes flutter confused. The wonder is painted across your face and Hawks can tell you’re wondering where he came from. It seems you didn't recognize him a few days ago, in fact you don’t seem to recognize him at all. Hawks is the number two hero so he’s not used to someone not being star struck by him.
“I- oh…umm thank you,” you stumble out finally looking into his eyes.
He studies your face now, finally close enough to see you and he’s thankful for the close contact. You’re quite lovely and the way you peer into his eyes makes him get a little lost in yours. There’s an instant attraction to you that Hawks hasn’t experienced before but he rolls with it, quickly putting on a flirty grin and holding you a bit tighter.
“That’s a lot of gifts for one person to carry. You rob a toy store or something?” He chuckles as he steadies you on your feet, releases your waist, and takes the boxes from the feathers that caught them.
You giggle, a twinkling bell like sound that rings in Hawks’ ears. “I did, but for a good cause I swear,” you reply, reaching for the boxes in his arms.
He moves them out of your reach, looking at you and smiling, “Well it looks like I’ll have to confiscate these then, ya know, my civic duty as a pro hero and all,” he says chuckling and rustling his wings to show off again.
Your eyes go blank as you process his words, “You’re a pro hero?”
Hawks can literally feel the knife you’ve just plunged into his ego but he tries not to let it get him down. He huffs out an embarrassed chuckle as he rubs the back of his neck. “Wow you really know how to knock a guy down a peg.”
The guilt in your eyes is impeccable and Hawks almost feels bad about saying it but when you scramble to explain yourself he feels a little better.
“Oh! Oh I’m so sorry, please don’t take it the wrong way. I only just moved here a few weeks ago and I’ve not really spent any time learning about the heroes here. The holidays gets so busy and my mind is all over and-“
Hawks laughs in the middle of your rambling, you’re very cute, and stops you before you overheat. “It’s ok dove, I was only joking with you,” he says waving a hand nonchalantly.
“Dove?”
Hawks freezes, not realizing he used the sweet pet name and tries to cover it up with a smooth pick up line. “Yeah dove, just because I don’t know your name. But you know as an apology for stealing all these toys, you could tell me your name and we’ll call it even.”
You grace him with another giggle and his heart flutters. “I’m y/n, but I like ‘dove’. It’s cute. And what should I call you?”
He sighs, you must’ve been telling the truth when you said you didn’t pay attention to the heroes here. “Hawks,” he answers.
“Dove and Hawks, very cute. Well it was nice to meet you, Hawks,” you say awkwardly reaching out a hand and balancing the boxes in the other.
He takes the boxes from you and grasps your hand to give it a light shake. The electricity in your touch sparks an idea in him and before he can rethink it he blurts out “You were singing ‘Last Christmas’ before your boxes fell, weren’t you?”
“Oof you heard that?” you say as your cheeks grow hot. He smiles and again is grateful at how accepting you are of his slightly creepy statement.
“Yeah you sounded nice! Though I’ve never heard anyone sing such a sad song with as much gusto and happiness as you did,” he replies.
You blink again in confusion, “It’s not a sad song,” you say in complete seriousness.
Hawks laughs again before realizing how serious you are. “It totally is, someone broke the singer’s heart on Christmas. It’s all he’s singing about.”
“No. He’s singing about moving on. He’s acknowledging that he got his heartbroken but he’s also saying that this year he’s going to do better, find someone who won’t do that to him again. It’s not a heart break song, it’s a ‘I’m moving on’ song and I think that’s beautiful.”
Hawks looks at you in disbelief before pondering your words and realizing how much what you’re saying makes sense. You stare back at him before you turn your face from his and move away in embarrassment.
He realizes your uncomfortableness and tries to change the subject quickly, blurting out again, “Let me help you carry these.” He’s afraid of saying goodbye too soon and he prays that you accept his offer. To his delight, you do.
As the two of you stroll down the street carrying the boxes, he inquires what they’re for.
“There are a few toys and warm clothes I’m bringing to the shelter,” you say matter of factly. Ahh, so you’re beautiful and a saint. How can his day get any better?
“That’s admirable of you,” he responds looking at you from the corner of his eye.
“It’s not admirable, It’s just a distraction really,” you say shrugging. Your statement catches him off guard. He doesn’t quite understand it.
“A distraction?”
“Yeah. From the holidays in general. I moved here for work and I was pretty bummed that I wouldn't be able to spend Christmas with my family, ya know? It’s… sad spending Christmas alone. So I figured I’d distract myself by making someone else feel better. Kind of selfish really, but hey, at least some good comes out of it!”
Hawks stops walking and it takes you a few steps to notice he’s no longer next to you. You turn back to look at him, worried that you’ve offended him. Hawks knows loneliness. He knows how terrible it is to spend the holidays alone, hell he’s done it his entire life and it’s sucked every time. He hates the holidays because he knows it’s the time of the year where “family” is pushed down everyone’s throats. And how hard it is to swallow for someone who doesn’t have one. He usually sulks, hides away in his apartment until the holidays have passed. He prays that they fly by so that the world can drop the “holly jolly nonsense” and get back to normal.
But you, you’ve taken something he’s felt for ages and you’ve chosen to make it into something positive, just like you did with the song. He’s amazed, left speechless as his shocked expression slowly turns to adoration. It’s then that he knows he’s fallen for you… hard.
“Hawks? Did...did I say something wrong?” you ask nervously.
He shakes himself out of his stupor and catches up with you. “Nope! But I want to ask you something,” he says falling back into step with you.
“Sure.”
“Would you like to go out for coffee after this?”
“Why are you just standing there staring?”
Your voice pulls Hawks from his memory and he smiles at your confused face. He shuffles over to you, wrapping the blanket around your shoulders and sitting next to you on the seat of the bay window.
“Was wondering where you were when I didn’t feel you next to me in bed,” he says pulling you between his legs and wrapping his arms and wings around you.
You smile and nuzzle into his chest as he kisses the top of your head and watches the snow fall.
“Sorry, I had to pee and then I saw it was snowing and had to watch. Plus, I think she really wanted hot chocolate,” you say patting your swollen belly and smiling.
Hawks smiles warmly at you, running his large hand over your stomach and reveling in the fact that he finally has a family for the holiday season.

Oh I am EXCITED to hear your thoughts about the war arc and the post-war arc because that's when everything went from decent to shit.
From random ass characters getting introduced and killed off
To the HORRIBLE confrontation of 1-A vs Izuku where it feels like Middle School all over again where everyone gangs up on him.
The mistreatment of Izuku where he's treated to be in the wrong for leaving even though it was to protect everyone.
To everyone basically gaslighting him.
To the HORRIBLE apology Bakugou gave which was more justifying his actions and victim blaming.
And not to mention the rushed Aoyama Traitor reveal and Izuku refusing to connect or relate to him because as we know as soon as he got a quirk, his quirkless past was erased!
You know, between how big this ended up being, and all the things I had to do, this response came later than I would have like. Hopefully it lives up.
Ah, The War Arc.
Also known as 'The point where everything went to shit'. Oh, those were the days. It's even worse because, as it was building up, The War Arc seemed like it was going to be awesome. It was where a bunch of plot threads, from Shigaraki to Hawks to Dabi's 'surprise' were all lining up to collide, and oh I, and probably others, were so excited to see it all go down.
Such naivety. Honestly, I think I blocked out so much of this beyond pure scorn that I had to reread it just to do this justice. If I seem particularly biting or sarcastic... that's probably why. This is basiclly me rereading and commenting as I go along, so it'll probably be a bit all over the place, before I move onto the post-war arcs which are still fresh in my mind.
Where to start, where to start.... well, the beginning works, I guess.
The LOV, after absorbing the MLA in a... kind of shoehorned way (Re-Destro basically ceased being a person after Shigaraki beat him, but for all that it's shown as, 'Wow he's so cool let's follow him!', I wonder if he surrendered just so his movement and army wouldn't be annihilated more than anything, and how he feels about all this, since he has no legs and seems generally depressed even though his stress has 'disappeared'. And wow, isn't funny that, if you just give up on everything you ever stood for or care about and your will to live, your sheer crippling depression would probably get rid of your stress temporarily?) becomes the PLF (so many acronyms!) and an army large enough to need a serious intervention, and so an army is needed to oppose them.
Thankfully, they get information from Aizawa's friend from the spin off manga to help figure out where everything is! Thank god they gave us flashbacks as this was happening to explain to anyone who didn't read it what the fuck was going on!
Sigh. Introduce your shit better, Hori, especially when it's some illegal move beyond science you're trying to sell us.
Anyways, that, combined with Hawks's information (back in those days where his arc was great), lets them get a grasp on the PLF and launch a two pronged attack on them, while also dealing with moles. All of this? All of this was actually pretty great, Kurogiri as the exception. Like I said, that build up was great.
Also, can I just add that Present Mic losing his shit was actually pretty awesome and hilarious? 10/10, would watch Crazed Mic again.
Anyways, here's one of the first things that, and maybe it's just me, is just kind of off: the fact that Garaki can duplicate Quirks. Not with a Quirk, or even with multiple Quirks, but just with science, somehow? I know that he's in the best position to do it, with AFO and vast resources to support him, but still; the closest to 'manipulating' Quirks like this, beyond OFA and Garaki himself, that we've seen in this manga? Is fucking Endeavor with his Quirk marriage. Quirks, in this story, are some black box bullshit that no one understands, and attempts to control them are on the level of Mendel and his peas, and often prone to failure to even get a 'basic' change happen (like, Bakugou was another 'basic' pairing, but he easily could have gotten something useless for heroics if he wasn't born lucky), and yet this fucker is just... so far beyond them it's OOC for the setting.
Everyone else is mashing lego pieces they can't see together to see if they fit, but this guy has copied Quirks, hundreds of them, and they just sit in jars everywhere? How? How?! In retrospect (and I'm kind of afraid of how many times I may say that here), his existence is just set up for the massive escalation that's about to come at us like a truck. How are there multiple AFOs active? How is Shigaraki's new body so strong? Where does the retroactively impossible rare old age Quirk come from, that was never a big deal before now because AFO had decades to hunt one down?
All of it? All of it is this guy. He's actually kind of interesting as a character, and a mad scientist fits AFO's organization to a T, but his purpose in the story is to hand out deus ex machinas for the villains on demand, and I honestly kind of hate him for it.
Meanwhile, Mirko bursts into the lab with Tomura in it and, ah, Mirko. In retrospect (seriously, someone count this and get back to me) this is the start of Hori just... ripping off all her body parts off like she's a cheap toy that he wants to see how much it'll take to break. At the time, I didn't think much of it, at worst it was a cheap way to prove how Serious Shit Was(TM) without killing off anyone named, but once it started happening again, while it just continued to focus on her in fetishy ways as she fights, it started to be a disturbing trend.
I've got some mixed feeling about her in general, because she's.... basiclly Bakugou? But with better limits on her behavior? Like, she's what the fanfic versions of Bakugou tend to end up as, somewhat cruel and crude and definitely violent but channeling it towards acceptable targets rather than, like, everyone around her. I actually like Blood Knight characters, but in this setting, as a hero, it just doesn't fit right, you know?
Still, she's a cool character and definitely deserved better than than being turned into a human stick for whatever kicks Hori seems to be getting out of it.
While I'm at it, let me mention that it's hard to take 'Super Strength Quirks' as a whole seriously sometimes if 'Rabbit' is enough for her to tear through the Semi-High Ends with some early Full Cowl level feats, and Endeavor can be punted through buildings and shake it off. In retrospect (fucking sigh) Endeavour vs the High End and Mirko's big Nomu fight were warnings that, yup, we're going all in on the power levels now, and it's kind of frustrating when, early on, they were trying to take the 'physicality' of Quirks seriously, that they were just human bodies plus this one specific thing, and now Hori's taking the seriousness of his own setting so loosely, just to make BIGGER, more DRAMATIC fights that last a lot longer than they should.
But I digress.
On a different note, while it was nice to see 1A given a time to shine, the fact that they're in this fight, the fact that some of them were essential members of this attack, is just wow. This, making so many of the adult heroes seem so useless that the need to depend on literal high schoolers, is in retrospect a big warning sign of just how accelerated the timeline became. In a more 'normal' situation for something like this, these big, dramatic fights would have happened years later, giving 1A the chance to grow up and make it all less... child soldier-y. There's plenty of shonen settings that have this kind of thing happen, sure, but they're always generally dystopian hellholes in the first place. Naruto the sixteen year old being important is a lot less of a reach when they put ten year olds in life or death situations on the regular anyways. MHA, though, is a modern setting, and they're in an actual, semi-normal school, where they get, like diplomas and shit and learn normal school things, rather than some military academy focused on pumping out ninjas or sorcerers or whatever to fight and die and kill for the cause. Which, UA kinda actually does anyways, but UA and how it doesn't actually make sense as a whole is really getting off topic.
So. Anyways....
OK, fine, Re-Destro being, like, the 'This is Fine' meme as a person is both iconic and deeply understandable and I wish we had more focus on that, but I need to focus back up on this!
Midnight's actual combat tool is a non-combat fan that exists just to fan the air. It kind of makes sense with her power but it's just so... shallow seeming, just playing to her fetishy theme, and I honestly think her doing this, fanning the air dramatically, is one of her more impressive showings in canon? I already know Hori has never taken Midnight seriously but still.
I've already talked about how wonderfully horrible the whole Twice Hawks thing was, so we're just going to ignore that and try to save some space....
Now I think it's time, so let's talk about one of the biggest issues of this arc: Shigaraki.
I've said it before, but him powering up makes sense, especially when he starts taking on the mantle of AFO's replacement. The problem is how much he powers up, and we can lay that at the feet of Garaki, Doctor Power Up, you jerk. He was always going to be one of the top beings in the setting once he got one of the most broken Quirks in the setting, but the fact that he can walk around without a Quirk active, blatantly ignoring all the people actively trying to murder him, refusing to simply kill Endeavor because his character is too important to write off yet, still incomplete and still be so dangerous...; in other words, the fact he effectively has several Quirks even without having a Quick is way too far. The heroes nerfing his development was an elegant solution to this problem, something that was handled a lot better than AFO, both as a person and as the Quirk itself, was. Even with Shigaraki escaping at the end of this, and making the 'final confrontation' energy of this arc fall completely flat*, the fact that he was permanently damaged by this still makes it have more meaning... you know. Until they tossed that out to fix him up anyways, somehow.
*This, actually, is one of the things that made the war so bad for me, actually: the build up was so... This Is It. There was all this hype for this being the Ultimate Fight, because if they don't win here, they'll have no way to meaningfully counter Shigaraki, he'd just be too hard to fight. Maybe if it was later, if Izuku was stronger, them losing could work: there would be a somewhat reasonable way out if they lost, involving a (probably bullshit) power up/training arc with Izuku frantically trying to even begin to match Shigaraki somewhere on his level as a 'transcendent one beyond humanity' before it was Too Late.... but him reaching his full potential at this point was years away, far too late to stop Shigaraki. It didn't sit right, because it was too early, but the way it was set up this was the do or die moment. Then the heroes lost, and that was the moment the story just... went to shit because Hori decided to solve the problem of Shigaraki being too strong by just making everyone else stronger as well.
And sure, a lot of it (most of it) is just Izuku, just Deku getting power up after power up, mastering them all near instantly when before each level of strength he gained was hard fought, requiring time and practice to being able to use them well, even with the new, largely out of nowhere addition of Black Whip, but it's also all the super moves everyone starts breaking out left and right in the final arc. It's Endeavour somehow beating AFO. It's all the big, increasingly dramatic and flashy attacks, all of them being no-selled by SFO because they're not allowed to be a meaningful threat. It's the one scratch on SFO by Bakugou (of fucking course) being, not because he's that strong (thank fuck) but because of some weird PTSD flashback on AFO's end. It's Deku, The Main Character, finally showing up and being the only person able to anything. That moment, in retrospect, is the moment when the power levels became the most important thing for a character above anything else, beyond strategy and planning, beyond how a power even works; any of it, all of it, they all paled before how strong is this character, how hard can they hit, how much damage can they take. It takes the idea of everyone being a hero, of the lesson Izuku had started to reject from the very beginning of the story, that people aren't born equal, being proved right all along, despite how the story trying to tell us otherwise.
That Izuku was only ever special because All Might graced him with his Quirk, and nothing else.
Oh. I can't believe I didn't mention that one second later retcon of Shigaraki awakening 'because of his hatred' instead of the far more reasonable electricity zapping him. With the delicious irony of it only happening because a hero was doing the 'heroic' thing of not minding his own business, no less; that would have been the cherry on top of the sundae of him coming back, as the perfect symbolism of how the heroes keep creating the villains they fight.
Don't get me wrong, his awakening itself is epic, you can almost hear the epic dark chorus singing in the background as he destroys everything, but... it's flashiness for the sake of flashiness, the way he officially wakes up. Not for any logical reason, but because his hatred is so immense it breaks reality, just like Izuku magically defies Nighteye's prediction, even though MHA pretends it's 'grounded' and that all it's super powers are biologic instead of anything more metaphysical that would help explain that off. It's just empty hype just for the sake of hype, no matter how little sense it makes. In this situation, it's relatively harmless, sure, but it's easy for it to become less harmless, like, perhaps, power ups just to make Shigaraki, Izuku, Bakugou, or whoever else is in focus at the moment look better, even if it doesn't make sense for them to actually happen. Or dramatic, meaningless 'deaths' and equally dramatic and ridiculous 'resurrections' that couldn't possibly result in a drastic increase in a person's abilities.
*looks meaningfully at the final arc's bullshit*
But surely, surely, Hori wouldn't do that, right? Right?
But anyways, back to the War Arc and... 'booty incoming'. Really. Really? Must we? Must we do this? Can't we have a woman on screen for five minutes without something sexual being referenced?
And then Bakugou's back, still speaking to everyone he can like they're trash, and still with people surprised by this, somehow, like this isn't a long established character trait for him, or that he would actually have any respect for old people. And then everything's being Dusted, people are panicked, and the heroes are full in crisis mode and yet his comment on the situation is "I'll wreck him". Not something about teamwork, not something about saving people, not even that he'll stop him, which has connotations of protection, but wreck, which screams aggressiveness and destruction. And it's just... so completely ignoring the seriousness of the situation, where everyone else is concerned about the city vanishing into dust, and Bakugou just wants to crush the enemy just to crush them.
It has all the energy of someone slapping their edgy OC into a scene by saying a meaningless line that can be somewhat reasonably ignored by the actual characters because it's so out of place. And then next chapter he just screams about killing Izuku instead of the actual threat when Izuku wonders why he's even there. Look, I get that, for some god forsaken reason, that Hori wants to play Bakugou's violent, abusive tendencies as 'comedy', but even if it was comedy, actually comedy and not thinly painted over abuse, there is a time and place for comedy, and this situation is not that time.
And, oh look, Eraserhead is finally fulfilling his true purpose: not being a teacher, but desperately acting as a bandaid to try and salvage the plot after Shigaraki contracted Madara Syndrome! And yet we still get shit like, 'The worst case is losing the teacher who watched over us all this time!' You know, the person who 'watched over you' by systematically destroying your ability to trust that anything he says or does isn't just another lie 'logical ruse', instead of the already unstoppable villain being even more unstoppable, because that is the context of the worst case scenario here, just so we're all clear: losing Aizawa would be worse than Shigaraki getting OFA.
(I mean, you could make a case that losing Erasure, the Quirk, is worse than him getting OFA, because Erasure can counter OFA so in that respect, Shigaraki getting it wouldn't change Aizawa's utility, but that's not the argument that's happening here; it's not Eraserhead, the tactical asset, the would be a loss, it's Aizawa the asshole of a person, who would be a tragic loss worse than OFA, the only hope anyone in this story has.)
Hori, if you could just throttle down the overhype of your Kakashi proxy and the angry fan favorite for five minutes while the shit gets real that would be great, thanks.
"If we can't stop one person, what is the point of this hero-saturated society?" You know what... Burning(?), that's a great question; I'm just going to leave this quote here on it's own merits.
And then Midnight is merced off screen by a meaningless mook, basiclly never to be mentioned again. You know, I didn't like how hollow her characterization was, but the answer to that is not to just off her and move on.
Meanwhile, Gran Torino is torn into by Shigaraki, but still manages to shrug it off. And, while we're on this topic...
Momo: is a genius.
Also Momo: makes a drug that is administered by injection instead of in a gas form.
Still Momo: doesn't think to make anyone else some extra knock out vial... things.
Still Momo: the sleep drug she makes take so long to take effect that this entire exercise is almost pointless.
Ashido: has the toss.
Also Ashido: fumbles the toss at the last minute out of surprise so that a man can do it for her, in a reversal of a situation that she had handled better before than he did, as an excuse to show his growth at her expense.
Classic Hori. Why let a woman actually be helpful when they can just try and fail to meaningfully improve the situation for the better?
And, ah yes. After just going on, with all apparently seriousness, about how he'll fight Izuku if he dares question why he's following him around, 'Bakugou Rises', and 'has his body move on it's own'. You know, heroically. Even though by all accounts he did and still does think and act on his instinct to just attack other people. And his dramatic 'sacrifice' is just going to be shrugged off and he's still going to be able to fight in anther couple of minutes. And, despite how it's presented like he comes to a big realization, he still acts exactly the same after this.
Riiiight, I buy that. Oh, and the person to notice something off about All Might's notes? Who was that again? Was it Izuku, who started off the series by analyzing Quirks a lot, and took the notes seriously, or is it Bakugou, who instantly insulted everyone in the notes off a surface level impression of them?
...Well. Now that the Bakugou simping portion of the war is finally past us, let us continue with Hori writing off one of his most interesting villains, just to replace him with the one he's refused to develop, just so we can start undoing all his wonderful development.
Thankfully, we come to one of the few parts I like about this mess: Dabi's Dance. Fucking glorious it is; the man is just vibing about the mayhem he's causes, the wonderful little psychopath. And let me tell you, 'The Past Never Dies' hits a lot harder than anything AFO has ever said.
Say what you want about him being a crazed murderer, beyond all hope of redemption, or blindingly insane? I'm not going to argue with you (though the story might, the way things are going) but you can't disagree with me about this: for all of his many, many flaws, the man understands Megamind's lesson about Presentation.
Oh. And Lemillion's back, I guess. If I seem unenthusiastic about it, well, that's about as much enthusiasm as Hori seems to have about that, so don't blame me.
Wait, the Bakugou simping is back on, or should I say, the Great Explosion Murder God Dynamite simping is back on. Fuck, Hori, remember what I said about a time and a place for comedy? Remember that?
Sigh... And the perfect place to end this clusterfuck of an arc off: 'You look like you needed saving', in reference to one of the greatest villains in the series, a mass murder who has spent the last five minutes trying to kill you, Izuku, what the fuck. But, it's over, right? Now that the War Arc is over, it can only get better, right?! Ha, if only!
Welcome to Post War, suckers: AKA, the point where Hori just stops giving a shit.
You see, for all the many, many, many flaws of the War Arc, Hori at least spent time on them, fleshed out dramatic moments, character reactions, and the lead up to those moments. But after? Hori has a checklist, somewhere, of all the major points he wants to do before the manga ends and he's checking things off, sure, but that's all he's doing: checking off the major plot points, one after the other. We've reached speedrun manga hell, where no character gets time actually think about anything anymore, or hold a conversation with someone that doesn't involve violence, or even break down in a proper hysterical cry.
Oh, look, a new character! What's that, an interesting character with deep ties to previously untouched worldbuilding you've been curious about? You want to know more about the corruption of the heroic society, or a country that isn't Japan for once?
Well, too bad, because they're gone. Where we're going, we don't have time for the current characters, much less new ones. If you see someone you've never seen before, enjoy your handful of chapters before they're thrown away like trash.
What's this? Izuku is finally getting some new character development? He's doing something new, different, and exciting, with potential to make him think about his future and heroism? WRONG! Class 1A can't have that! They're going to hunt him down like a dog for daring to leave them, and beat the living shit out of him to prove their friendship.
Just like Bakugou does! Good thing he's leading them, just like the old days in Aldera! And wow, that's some top tier Karma Houdini bullshit there, isn't it?
Pop Quiz: according to Bakugou, what does Deku mean?
Useless, you got it!
Next question: what does Bakugou still call Izuku, the same way he has since they were young, young children up to the present?
Deku!
How about this? How long has All Might actually interacted with Izuku?
Oh, maybe two years or so, you say? That's right!
During this time, has he ever once called Izuku either useless or Deku, beyond as his hero name?
Not once, correct!
So, taking all of this into account, final question: if Izuku considers himself Dek- I'm sorry, useless, what one person is the most reponsible for that?
All Might!
Hmm. Hmmm. Something seems wrong with that last answer. Gee, I wonder what seems wrong about that last answer, I'm so confused.
So, yeah, after Izuku leaves, not runs away, mind you, leaves, because UA isn't a prison and he has every right to leave, Bakugou explains how Izuku's complete lack of self respect is All Might's fault, before whipping all his classmates into a frenzy to go hunt him down.
Then, after finding him, already exhausted from constantly fighting for his life, all of them gang up on him, attack, try to knock him out, and after he gives up on making his own choices against the sheer amount of peer pressure being thrown his way, Bakugou apologizes.
For what? Well, if we didn't read the manga, we sure wouldn't know, because Bakugou didn't want to talk about that! No, it's just how Izuku, weak, helpless Izuku who idolized him, and had no Quirk, somehow made him feel inferior, and that's why he was so angry all the time. How dare Izuku have hopes and dreams?! And then we end it up with the absolutely touching message that this won't change anything.
Wow, Great Explosion God Dynamite. I'm moved. You truly are beyond us mere mortals, to know how an apology can only be truly sincere when you explain how utterly worthless it is! Brilliant! Truly, this is that Post War quality we know and love!
Oh, and the Traitor arc. Think back, everyone, back to the days where this manga was about being in a school, and think about the traitor that ratted out the class to AFO. Remember that? Well, it's Aoyama. What, the last chapter made you think it was someone else? Psych!
Anyways, Aoyama was actually the traitor the whole time, and it just... never came up again; AFO never saw a use for someone inside UA since they attacked the summer camp, I guess, and there's no possible way he could have used that asset again, no sir. Well, now that we've all yelled at him a bit, I guess we're all fine with that now; let's use him to ambush AFO! With loopholes to get around his lie detector Quirk! Surely, after giving him one Quirk to help him infiltrate one of the most important places in Japan, there's no way AFO could have planted, say, a second Quirk in Aoyama, as a way to deal with possible treachery; no we've never seen him do that recently. Or just observe him, or really do anything to make sure he stays loyal.
Oh wait, he was Quirkless? A dark mirror to Izuku, you say, both of which got a Quirk from two of the most important characters in the series, in a way that drastically changed their lives and tied them together antagonistically?! What does Izuku think about that? Don't you know better than to ask that kind of question; we don't have time to reflect on things, much less Izuku's Quirkless past that has basiclly been retconned out of existence at this point.
Was any of that too fast for you? Maybe too confusing? Did you want me to maybe break up that last section a little more, spend some more time on each major plot twist as it happened, how people felt about it? Well, congratulations, that's exactly what it feels like to read MHA Post War.
*screams in fury forever*
Hori. Hori, why did you do this to me? This story started off so good. What the fuck is all this?

*Sigh*
I really don't mean to come across as a negative Nancy with every new chapter for BNHA lately. It's part of why I don't really weigh in on individual chapters anymore and try to wait for the conclusions to each fight and see where we ended up. (This week was an exception, we still need one or two more to see what's up with AFO and the response from the heroes.)
I don't hate any of the new characters we've gotten - in fact, both Ordinary Lady and Nagant in particular really grew on me over time. I just hate how they're wasted, and Star especially felt like a low blow with these random "girl power" throwaway lines from last chapter.
Her being female was literally never relevant in the story until this was brought up, and the delivery is so confusing. She hates these words but they were never said to her? Is it her own insecurities? Did others put her down for being a woman before in her past?
Doesn't matter. She's gone now - in the literal next chapter. Still fighting the good fight, for sure, and that does matter for the plot; but none of it feels like it fits together or that it actually matters in the grand scheme of everything. I wanted her to matter, but this last contribution as a Deus Ex Machina is all she's going to be. The story needed an ace up the sleeve to nerf AFO, but for whatever reason someone somewhere in the team preferred to pretend this new character was better to make this sacrifice than All Might for whom Star was a clear stand-in.
All the motions of her being her own character were there, but none of the substance or the impact actually was because she showed up when she was needed and is now being thrown away now that she's done her job.
And yet, even with all of that said, it's still my heartfelt opinion that this arc has been terribly written, but that doesn't mean it's unenjoyable - at least not for everyone. The spectacle of MHA still remains even when the writing falls short. The fight was visually incredible.
I just couldn't personally be invested in it or its outcome because I'd already sniffed out what was going to happen - and that isn't in and of itself a bad thing, either. It's only bad because what I saw was a bright, blinking sign that said, "Star's here to buy some time, and that's it" and that's what we got.
We have all of these old characters that I care about that are being held suspiciously far away from the plot to the point that I don't know what's going to happen to them or what they're actually going to do. Then we get all these new characters that the story tries to get me invested in to run us around in circles for a bit to add to the confusion about a final timeline prediction and then throws them away when they're done.
It's not like anything I've seen Hori write for MHA before, and I can't shake the feeling that something doesn't add up. I don't know what it is, but hopefully by the time the manga ends we'll at least have some answers.
