Sky could see the bolts in his spine through his thin shirt and knew the area was likely sensitive so she was careful not to touch directly over his spine and to keep her touch light enough not to hurt him but firm enough to help the muscles relax. She made a note to add a bit more pain reliever to the tea before she gave him the next dose now that she had a better idea of his physical state.

She helped him drink the soup, trying to get him to take small sips rather than big gulps. She was glad the soup had cooled enough that it wouldn't burn him but she still worried. She didn't force him to drink more when he stopped however.

"i can always make you more another time if you like." She offered with a shy smile as she put the remainder of the tea and soup away for later before turning back to check his temperature again.

"The tea will help with that. One of the herbs will help you sleep soundly." She explained kindly as she got up so that she could help him get settled if he let her. She wanted to make sure that he was properly supported and propped up enough to be able to breathe easily. She would adjust the pillows until she was certain he would be as comfortable as possible before covering him in blankets, likely too many if possible and he didn't stop her. Including what looked like a homemade quilt from her basket. "If you need anything, I'll be just in the next room. I brought some paperwork to do while looking after you."

 The tea tasted like home. Minty and crisp, with a background hint of floral bitterness. If only swallowing wasn’t a mixture of painful jabbing and rolling nausea. He slumped against his legs as she sat next to him, heaving out a heavy sigh of fatigue. A bit of the nausea was being tamed by whatever was in the tea, but it was still naggingly present.

 Her hand touched his back, near, but not entirely on his spine. Still, the proximity to his implanted bolts sent signals of overstimulation up his back and to the base of his skull. He shuddered noticeably, a small huff of a groan escaping him from the borderline discomfort of his back.

 But then he adjusted to the touch, and his back muscles relaxed under her hand.

 His fingers moved to brace her cup-holding hand, steadying it for him to drink from the cup. Warm, savory, and tinged with the same herbal flavors as the tea. It was a good compliment to his dulled, sick palate. He was able to get a few measured gulps down before he pulled away, gasping some breath into his tired lungs. That was as much as he could handle, right away.

 “I wish I could taste it more…” he said in a breath. He looked to the pile of pillows, finally noticing them at the head of the bed. “… You’re very helpful, Miss Young,” he glanced back to her with a small smile. “I think…I will lay down for a bit. I have not slept much since yesterday.” The feeling of suffocation while laying down wasn’t helping him with any restful dreams.

I wonder if there’s like a world where an alternate Mage!Jayce that goes to universes and ensures he and Viktor meet. Like maybe (in Arcane’s potential backstory for Viktor) he gets Viktor’s parents enough money to buy the uniform for the academy? Or maybe nudges that version of Heimerdinger to where Viktor is waiting, getting him on the track to be admitted to the academy?

Like. What a concept, that there is a version out there of Jayce that also lost his Viktor but in a different way, maybe to sickness, maybe Jayce himself went crazy afterwards, and he’s now going to universes where Jayce loses his Viktor and resets them so they meet.

Would also be absolutely hilarious if that alternate Jayce and Mage!Viktor meet and are like that spiderman pointing meme like what are you doing here? And then they’re like damn we really are codependent? (Then both aren’t lonely anymore)

I know that "doomed by the narrative" has been so overused that is now a meme but honestly? How terrifying, how sad, that the moment you see them both together you already know how it's going to end. The final step of their journey is already written, it has been for kver a decade now. When Viktor saves Jayce's life, when he encourages him to pursue his dreams, and Jayce looks back at him with nothing but pure awe, and yet you, the audience know that they will end up hurting each other so badly, that everything will go up in flames, that they are destined to hate

The narrative is already set. We are just here for the journey.

Ughhhhhhh I guess my only hope is that they can maybe change it a little? Or maybe get through the really contentious divorce era, they go at each other’s throats all season, and come out at the end with… not reconciliation, I think that’s too much to hope for, but… mutual understanding? Like… they can’t be lovers friends again, they’ll never be close like they were, but maybe there’s a respect there? A lot of the League lore suggests that Jayce is very remorseful over what happened, and would leap at the opportunity to make amends. I always go back to the interaction in Jayce’s LoR story. He was just so ready to end the fight between them. And Arcane has certainly softened the image of Jayce (I know that’s so that he can be hardened by his life experiences, but… the writers have a daunting task ahead of turning this sweet, non-confrontational person into a stuck-up asshole), so my hope is that they lean on that softer image and maybe get to a point where he and Viktor can coexist semi-peacefully? And this is totally not at all spurred by my need to have something to work with fanfic-wise 🫣

Really as long as they’re both alive at the end of the season, I’m good. I will smush them together regardless. My one fear is that Viktor falls victim to the old “redemption by death” trope. The Kylo Renification, if you will.

Redemption by death is such a cheap cop-out, and I am so fucking sick of it. If you’re going to redeem a “villain,” don’t be lazy. Leave them alive to make amends, let them face the consequences and work through them. It can be done. Zuko from Avatar. The Digimon Emperor from Digimon. (don’t judge me, I am a Olde™). Loki.

So, like everyone else, I'm also getting eaten alive by the Arcane season 2 finale. It may even have awakened the Writing Beast from its deep slumber. Some here's some disorganized Jayvik thoughts under the cut:

Where the hell's my "They had us going in the first half" meme? Like, am I the only one who made it through episode 8 and the first half of episode 9 with the sick-to-the-stomach dread that it was going to crash and burn? I'll be honest, I did not think they had the chops to pull this off and yet! I stand gloriously evolved corrected! God damn!

And for that matter, where's my "Why We Have To Break Up/Why We Have To Stay Together/Why We're Getting Divorced/etc" meme too. I think that is warranted. True, Jayce and Viktor never really sell you on the divorce, but I think that just makes it funnier.

I can't fucking believe that hanahaki almost destroyed the universe. Like, that's canon, that's real. That's just what fucking happened, oh my goddddd. Viktor, jesus christ dude.

To be quite honest, I think there is a strongly justified argument that Jayce thought they were in a relationship the entire time. Canon does not disprove this. Think about it, he always refers to Viktor as his partner, he fucking introduces him that way to everyone he meets. If he just assumed that maybe Viktor was ace since Viktor never initiates touch or seems to ask for physical intimacy, he might have just thought this is what Viktor was cool with. Viktor never contradicts or asks to clarify the "partner" title. Jayce also doesn't go out looking for Mel, he kinda fell into it. And he might have assumed that if Viktor had a problem with it, he'd say something. Which in fact echoes one of the main problems in their relationship! Consistently, Jayce thinks Viktor will speak up for himself, for his needs and wants, for when he needs help, because he loves and respects Viktor and believes they are equals. Why wouldn't Viktor come to him if he needed something? Why would Viktor hide from him? And Viktor, equally consistently, literally would rather die than tell you he's dying. He will not, ever, disclose what he wants or needs and it has never occurred to him that Jayce would expect him to say if he needs something. Like, there's blame on both sides for why this fell apart. And they both assumed they understood each other perfectly and what's truly fucked is on an atomically intimate level they do, but on a higher practical, logistical level, they just talk right past each other. Viktor assumes partner only means professionally and Jayce assumes that Viktor would ask. The misunderstanding is literally that simple.

And then think about Skye! My god, she walks into this and takes one look at Viktor and instantly knows what's Wrong With Him™. And, bafflingly, Jayce doesn't! It's painfully clear to her that Viktor is incapable of thinking about anyone besides Jayce, that he's dying and refusing help at every turn, that he's beautiful and brilliant and never ever hears it when people tell him that. She sees all this instantly and, with dawning horror, sees that Jayce carries uncommonly strong affection for him. So how, in the name of all that is holy, has Jayce not noticed? How could he be this blind? And, this Skye probably didn't know, but Jayce is so fucking in love with everything Viktor does and is, he truly doesn't see the problems until it's too late. It's not that he doesn't care, quite the opposite in fact. And poor Skye just sits with that knowledge. It's arguable that she selfishly didn't explain to Viktor, but it's just as arguable, that if she had tried, Viktor still wouldn't have heard her. She knew him very well, I want to give her credit for that.

It's tragic, but also so fucking funny. "Well, I think I'm in a relationship? I call him my partner all the time and we do everything together. He makes me so happy. Pretty sure he's ace tho? And maybe he thinks we have an open relationship? I told him I slept with someone and he just kinda nodded? He looked real pale and sick, but he always looks like that. I dunno, maybe sexual stuff just grosses him out too much. I won't bring it up again. As long as he's happy, I'm happy." vs "Well, my soulmate is currently courting someone else. *painful cough* He's probably drinking with her, kissing her, *hack* making love to her. *spits blood* They're probably in bed right now, all warm skin and soft sheets. *more coughing* He's probably the happiest he's ever been. I love how much they're the same person. The only difference in their perspectives are their life experiences. They're both stubborn as the day is long, single-minded, principled, prone to fixation and overworking, desperate to be of use, to contribute, and utterly useless without each other. They get fascinated by the same things, but will gravitate towards different applications, different ends. They both have strong and meaningful relationships with women that are/were potentially romantic. They're both miserable when they're alone and their thinking will warp without someone to talk to. Loneliness haunts Jayce just as much as it haunts Viktor. It's just that Jayce came from a loving home and people were willing to give him a chance. Jayce learned how to be charming because he was expected to be charming, he had places to go and be charming. Viktor pulled himself out of abject poverty and fought for half the chances Jayce was given out of sheer brilliance and determination. Viktor has always had himself and no one else, he knows what he can do on his own, but his whole world changed when he found someone he could do it with. And discovered there was much more they could do together than he'd ever be able to do alone. There's nothing worse than being alone again after you've found that. They both know this.

Favorite duo: jayce and vi, cait and jayce, ekko and jayce, and sevika and jinx were all really stellar moments for me

Favorite design: s1 mel has the best overall design but ekko's various fits take the cake in s2

Least favorite design: overall? mylo. in a single instance: old man viktor with the beard. to whoever the fuck did that.........be so serious right now

Favorite scene: ekko & jinx's bridge fight in season one, jinx's shimmer horror transfusion, like.......almost every singed scene but most specifically the debate he has about fate and evolution with viktor, viktor and sky's astral journey into vander's mind palace. and . AND. the scene of all time: ekko slam dunking viktor in the face with the z-drive‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

I don’t want to get canceled…cuz I don’t mind jayvik at all, matter of fact I love seeing memes and stuff about them and support peoples opinions on them being lovers- BUT, while watching the show, I was like ??? Every single thing could have a logical explanation

For example, when vik frowns after Mel leaves (catching them tryna break into heims lab) ppl said it was romantic cuz he was jealous… I believed it at first when I saw it on tt but when I watched the actual show, I was like uhh they just met? And he probably made that look as in “really? 🙄 she was literally at ur trial as a judge” LMAO. Idk tho!! I hope people don’t get mad at this. I 100% support LGBTQ ships but sometimes people be reaching. I am also not a jayvik anti at all, I just find that sometimes people are looking way too into small things. I feel as though a lot of people misinterpret body language and emotions

I'm an anti but only because jayvik fans can be so irritating and delusional.

And yes, they often just reach to conclusions where I cannot see anything. As you said, the moment Mel catches them and Viktor is irritated wasn't because he was jealous but because he was like "bro wtf? she prayed on your downfall and now you're all puppy eyes? have some dignity". Or, in the same scene, when Viktor said "wait this isn't my bedroom", it does not at all mean Viktor is canonically gay. Matter of fact, it was a lie to conceal what he and Jayce were actually doing, it had nothing to do with his actual sexuality (not saying Viktor can't be gay, it's just not the hint to it).

Or at the end of season 2, when Viktor and Jayce "embraced" (if you can call that) each other when they died, many jayvik fans said that was a clear sign they loved each other. Sorry to burst your bubble but no, it wasn't. Jayce held onto Viktor and Viktor onto Jayce because they were afraid of what would happen and probably regretted everything that lead up to this moment. They were each others safe place, not because of romance necessarily but because of their general connection and bond.

Jayvik fans cling onto every small detail like it's a lifeline and I'm sick of it.

Viktor thinks he must truly feel wretched, because he doesn't immediately swat away Jayce's hand in annoyance ( boundaries! ). If he's honest, which he isn't, he hasn't been able to focus all day. Pain races through his body, round and round like a manic sprinter; unable to decide which direction to go. He suspects that the turn in the weather has aggitated his illness, but he hates being sick and hates laying in bed uselessly more than he hates being sick. He gently pushes Jayce's hand away, smiling ( he looks like shit ). "I'm fine." He says, and it is the least reassuring thing he could say, because he immediately starts coughing. It's hard enough that he reaches for the kerchief in his pocket, hiding the speckles of blood in the cloth by pocketing it smoothly. He sniffs. "Eh, alright," He's given in, temporarily, "If you must." He hands Jayce his notebook, which has a few equations scrawled on it. "I would greatly appreciate a second opinion on these." Not the kind of help being offered. Not at all. Sometimes even he doesn't know if he's being cheeky, or just horribly stubborn through and through.
