@lnkedmyheart, I appreciate the counter and alternate perspective! Admittedly, my only engagements with the fanbase, outside of a rogue Youtube recommendation, have been on Tumblr and Archive Of Our Own. And, with K/L being, by far, the most popular ship, and Lance and Keith being the most popular characters on both of these sites, I've been inundated with a lot of... "questionable" opinions on Shiro. (People pretending they don't hate him while espousing the nastiest ableist, ageist, homophobic rhetoric based on absolutely nothing but the versions of these characters they've fabricated in their heads.) I don't use TikTok, but everything I've seen in screenshots and reposts on Tumblr and Youtube indicates that it is a cesspit of the worst ignorance, sensationalism, pettiness, immaturity, and puritanism from Tumblr and Twitter congealed into one massive lake of sewage and sludge.
The people who despise Shiro are definitely indulging in some sort of substance. How else do you explain looking at this man,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and deciding that he's an old, "broken", "monster"?
(It shouldn't be a point of pride for these people to regurgitate the exact language of Shiro's abuser.)
I can understand if Shiro isn't someone's cup of tea. We don't choose the favorite character, the favorite character chooses us. Maybe they find his quiet, reserved personality unappealing because they prefer louder, flashy, hyperactive types, or comic relief. That's fine. But, people who despise Takashi Shirogane are completely out of touch with reality.

Matt: Alright Pidgey, spill. Who is it?
Pidge: What? Who's who? What are you-
Matt: Stuff it, I know when my baby sis has a crush, so spill or I will lose it. Is it Hunk?
Pidge: What? Quiznack, no he's like the brother I never had.
Matt: Hurtful, but okay, is it Lance?
Pidge: No-
Lance: Is what me?
Pidge: Nothing.
Matt: Yeah, it's nothing.
Lance: Okay, bee-tee-dubs, be on the lookout for Keith he may be in a bad mood.
Keith: *on the far end of the castle and quickly approaching* LANCE!
Pidge: 😳
Lance: Quiznack, gotta go!
Matt: Hate to be the one in the way of that war-path.
Matt: *sees Pidge's expression* Nooo... Keith?
Pidge: Is it weird that I kinda like it when he yells in my direction too...
Matt: Oh, definitely not, it happens to the best of us. Just be careful, Commanders in uniform are like catnip to us nerds.
Pidge: Oh yeah, who's your catn-
Matt: *shows his phone homescreen which is a pic of him and Shiro at the beach in swimtrunks*
Pidge: Fair enough.
Pidge: Want to ogle the brother's while Shiro tries to stop Keith from killing Lance?

“We need to restart the level.”
Pidge turns to Lance, furrowing her brow at him. “Um, no we don’t. We’re killing it. We beat the Slayforn boss in like ten minutes, we’re never going to be able to do that again.”
“We have to restart,” Lance insists like the stubborn mule he is, reaching over to reset the console manually. Pidge yelps, lunging forward to smack his hand away. Never one to let her get the last hit, he smacks her right back, and Pidge can’t let that slide so she smacks him again, and the next thing she knows they’re wrestling on the floor, controllers abandoned.
“Don’t you fucking dare!” Lance shrieks, as Pidge moves to shove a wet finger in his ear. Pidge laughs evilly, fully intending on doing it anyway, but he shoves his head forward and bites her finger as she approaches.
“Ow! You dickhead! You broke the skin!”
“Come closer and I’ll fucking do it again!”
He bares his teeth at her like the feral, youngest-sibling-backed-into-a-corner weirdo he is (Pidge knows), completely serious on his threat. Pidge is careful to keep her fingers and appendages away from his teeth, and continues wreaking havoc in other ways.
She likes to pinch.
Luckily for her, she’s been training one-on-one with Allura for the past few months, so if she really applies her teachings she could kill God. Also, as much as she and Lance are in the same boat when it comes to sibling dynamics, he has a soft spot a mile wide because of his nieces and nephews and baby cousins, so she can emotionally manipulate him into being more hesitant around her in terms of violence.
(They fight a lot. Pidge knows her stuff.)
Eventually they reach the point where they’re trying so hard to pin each other that they’re wrapped up like twin pretzels, limbs flailing everywhere and various hisses and threats filling the room. Pidge, getting that claustrophobic feeling of being trapped, desperately needs to end it. She goes limp, throwing off Lance’s balance, and then whips herself forward, bucking him off her — and directly into the corner of his bed frame, The thunk is so sharp and loud that it’s almost a crack.
Lance’s “ow” is so quiet that it’s almost silent in comparison.
“What was that?” a voice booms down the hallway, and Pidge heart pounds.
“Lance?” she asks frantically, shaking his shoulder. “Are you dead?”
“I said, what was that!” Shiro yells louder. He sounds closer.
“Nothing!” Pidge shouts through the door. She glances back down at Lance, who has yet to move his hands from where they’re clutched at his head. Fuck! “We were just — uh, I dropped something!”
Lance makes a low whimpering noise, curling further in on himself.
“No no no, stop crying, it’s okay, you can hit me back,” Pidge whispers frantically. She shakes her arm at him. “Okay? And then we’re even. Don’t tell Shiro.”
Lance doesn’t look at her, still making the occasional pained noise. Shiro’s footsteps get louder.
She is going to get in so much trouble, which isn’t even fair because Lance was wrestling too! They’re both not allowed to try to kill each other!
Shiro’s footsteps get even louder, and closer together, like he’s running. Fuck! Fuck fuck fuck!
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
“I’ll let you hit me twice! And the second time can be unexpected!”
The door handle jiggles. Lance is still not straightening up.
She’s fucked.
Shiro pokes his head in, already frowning, squinting to see through the darkness of the room.
“What’s going on, you two?”
Pidge closes her eyes in defeat. She’s fucked.
“Nothing,” says a pleasant voice from beside her. She whips around, jaw dropped, only to see Lance upright and totally normal, looking as smug as smug can be.
Fucking snake!
Shiro raises an eyebrow. “I heard arguing. And a bang.”
“We were yelling at the TV because we lost a game,” Lance lies.
Pidge imagines all the ways she’s going to kill him.
Shiro doesn’t look totally convinced, but unfortunately for him Lance is an excellent liar when he’s planning to be, and there’s not so much as a crack in his expression.
“Alright,” their leader says hesitantly. “Don’t…kill each other.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Lance promises sunnily. Pidge barely resists the urge to smack him right then and there.
She decides not to resist, actually. The second Shiro shuts the door she lunges, snarling, fully ready to get right back where they left off. But Lance doesn’t let her — anticipating her violence, he scrambles to his feet and scales the dresser, taking refuge on a tiny little shelf by the ceiling that only his stick ass could balance on.
“Ah ah ah,” he says, wagging his finger infuriatingly. “You promised two hits if I didn’t tell Shiro. Not the other way around.”
“Bullshit!” she cries, scanning the room to see if she can find a broom to swat at him like a spider. She is unsuccessful. “I traded that because I thought you were hurt!”
Lance touches his chest in mock serenity. “I was hurt. My heart was broken by your violence.”
“Lance, the second you get down from there I am going to fucking kill you.”
May be he reads the rage in her voice, because he hesitates.
“Fine. I get one free hit.”
“No free hits and I only kill you a little.”
“No free hits and we restart the level,” he bargains
Pidge squints at him. He must be serious, because that’s a major deal on his part. Pidge would never give in that quickly.
“No free hits and we restart the level only if you tell me why.”
“Sold.”
He drops down from the ceiling, landing neatly on the floor and then immediately tripping the first step he takes.
Pidge has to fight the smile off her face.
He settles down back where he was before, handing Pidge her controller and grabbing his own.
“Explain yourself,” Pidge orders as he clicks through the menu to restart the level.
Lance hesitates before answering, so Pidge knows the next words out of his mouth are going to be bullshit.
“I read on Space Internet that the rocket power up makes the next level easier, but you have to use it through this level or it didn’t work.”
Yep. She was right.
“Uh huh,” she says, raising her eyebrow at him. “And you didn’t do that before level because…”
“I forgot,” Lance insists.
Pidge sets her controller down, turning to face him. She narrows her eyes, scrutinizing him, and he squirms; shifting nervously and avoiding her eyes.
She already knew he was lying. But if he just wanted to restart the level to beat their time record, then he would just tell her. And she would have noticed if he wanted to restart the level because he was sucking ass, or something, so it wasn’t that. This shadiness from him doesn’t make sense — he only acts like that when he’s guilty, or embarrassed.
It dawns on her then. Embarrassed or guilty — or a mix of the two.
“Are you telling me,” she says gleefully, and knows she’s on the right track when Lance sighs in defeat, “that you want to restart our entire level because you feel bad about the NPC dialogue option you chose?”
Ten minutes into their game, they had encountered an NPC that was supposed to give them advice for the boss they were going to face, only the advice was kind of dogshit. The two of them had complained loudly, because that was half the fun of gaming, and in an impulsive and uncharacteristic move, Lance had chosen the slightly rude dialogue option. The NPC walked away all dejected, as it was programmed to do, but they’d been attacked by the boss right after, so Pidge pretty much forgot it happened.
But Lance’s dork ass?
“There was no need for that level of rudeness,” Lance defends. “It was just trying to help! It’s not it’s fault it was programmed to give bad advice!”
Of course Lance has felt bad about being rude to a literal NPC for the past half hour.
Pidge bursts out laughing, pointing at Lance as obnoxiously as she can so he knows she’s making fun of him. He gets the hint and scowls, brown eyes glaring daggers.
“You’re the worst,” he says.
“You’re a loser,” Pidge wheezes. “Oh my God.”
She turns back to the game, still giggling, ignoring Lance’s continued grumbles.
They do worse this time around. Pidge teases him the entire time.
(But, honestly, she’s a little endeared. Not that Lance needs to know.)

Honestly screw fanon romantic and platonic relationships. Tell what character pairings (with little to no interactions in canon) which fandom insists would be great friends but you know it in your heart would kill each other without hesitation

I think I'm gonna talk about my VF OC more! For now, I'm gonna be self-indulgent with her and talk about potential lion placement, lol
I'm not sure if this would be canon to my rewrite, but I like the idea of Anya having a connection to yellow, especially because in VLD the yellow paladin basically wears their heart on their sleeve and tries to help everyone before themselves her being a royal advisor is legitimately the embodiment of half of that, the other comes from her personality as I like to think of her as an open book when it comes to her emotions
Obviously she isn't trained to be a pilot, she was never meant to be one nor does she want to be one. But my idea is that hunk get knocked down during a fight with a robeast, the team still being on Arus means Anya is there to help but what about the cadets? All of them are paired up with pilots already, Daniel with lance, Vince with Allura, and Larmina with pidge. Except as we see in every fight where it's the lions vs a robeast and not voltron themself, they don't fare too well
So the team can't get to Hunk, and he isn't responding to them at all. Then Anya makes the very stupid and very dangerous call to run out there and get to him herself. When she does, he doesn't respond to her either (but is otherwise ok) and while the team is yelling at her for choosing to do something like that, they at least recognize she can manually* start the lion.
*In reference to DOTU since they always activated their lions by inserting the key into them, the same way Sven did in Ghost In The Lion, instead of the remote start they have now with the voltcoms
Once yellow lion comes back online, everything is on her, and she doesn't know how to fly. Yet she knows the lions are sentient, so before taking her first attempt into piloting into an active war zone and piloting in general, she begs yellow to work with her because it's more than just her life that is in danger because of an inactive lion
There's definitely more to that part specifically, but that's when her connection happens. Yellow doesn't just kick on autopilot to help her out, she telepathically reaches out to her to tell* her that she was bold to think she could make a difference without having any skills to back her up, but that it was the right choice to make anyway
*I imagine they talk to anyone that's not their pilot but only if worthy of them similarly to bumblebee and his radio in the transformers Bay movies, with bits of pieces of people talking from their own memories, not perfect but gets the job done. The pilots can hear their actual voice though and have a stronger physical and mystical connection to them.
Anya and yellow manage to get back to the team, who are going nuts at the turn of events, and get close enough to green to let Larmina hop over to take over yellow. From there the battle is won and once they're back in the castle, with Hunk now conscious and getting checked out at med bay, the pilots all bombard her with questions over what happened and how she felt being about to talk to the lions.
She's obviously freaked out, but she's happy that something as important as a lion of voltron trusted her to do the right thing, especially enough to form a connection like that. Lance starts talking to her about doing flight training and the others agree, but she refuses to get into the pilot's seat again because she doesn't want to be out on the battlefield ever again
They manage to convince to her some training because even if she's not out there being another cadet, she's the closest thing to a backup pilot they've got right now, and they definitely need it against maahox's forces

Uhhhh I LOVE Lance and Pidge's dynamic, and I LOVE the concept of them being like siblings to each other.
Like Pidge reminds Lance of his niece, while Lance reminds Pidge of her older brother. They both get homesick a lot, and just resort to hanging out with each other bc they make each other feel like they're at home.
Idk I like the idea of them doing stupid sibling stuff. They steal the game console from the other's room, they snatch food that's clearly labeled "Lance" or "Pidge", they have inside jokes no one else gets.
Ughhhh I could just go on abt all my fav platonic plance headcanons I LOVE THEM SO MUCH

Klance and Adashi parallels that keep me up:
Keith and Adam: both went and did something sewer slideal (to be fair though Adam was ordered and Keith got saved by Lotor)
Lance and Shiro: both died but ended up coming back to life (Lance via Alluras powers and Shiro via having his conscience being put inside a clone), they're also both like mega flirts and disasters
Shiro and Keith: wanting to be in space no matter what and helping people constantly
Lance and Adam: love piloting but also wanting to be on Earth (I like to think Lance helps out on the farm but he's also the new lead MFE pilot for the Garrison and is teaching a new generation)
Also both ships have their own holt sibling that more than likely annoyed them about their crushes (Matt definitely bugged Shiro more than Adam and Pidge definitely bugged Lance more)
If yall have any other parallels throw them down

A study on Lance's underrated role on the team.
Or, "Yes, there was a Space Mom"
Some time ago, I made a post saying that, the closest thing to a "Space Mom" the paladins ever had was actually Lance and I wanted to make a post elaborating more on why I thought so.
Now this is not me saying that we have to put this Team in neat nuclear family boxes, even Shiro, the one who the fandom collectively agrees to call "Space Dad" doesnt fit perfectly the Team Dad trope, but what I mean is that, this role is one that most of the time it appears naturally in any group of friends/people.
So, lets start with seeing how TVTropes describes what is a Team Mom:
"In an ensemble show, especially of the fighting kind, there needs to be someone to hold this Ragtag Bunch of Misfits together before they kill each other or wander off into the woods like so many Player Characters."
"The Team Mom basically acts as the mother figure for everyone else in the group, regardless of age or family relations."
"Although the role itself is traditionally female, the overprotective dad or older brother can qualify for Team Mom"
"They are by definition never the loner, and will in fact tend to be the one who pulls them into the cast's orbit as a Sixth Ranger. If anyone can break through and bring about a Heel–Face Turn or Cooldown Hug, it's them"
"if any of their surrogate children or siblings are threatened, they can snap into angry Mama Bear mode and kick some ass"
Basically, this role is less about gender and age and more about how the character threats the rest of their peers.
It is hard to imagine resident flirty goofball Lance as fitting in a role like this since, usually, characters that are referred to as the "Team Mom", seem a bit more responsible and mature.
And, admittedly, it is a role that he has to grow into a bit, but even in the first episode he already had some shades of this:
Covering for Pidge and taking the brunt of Iverson's anger, running to aid someone who had fallen from one of the pods (before knowing it was a pretty girl) and protecting Coran from a explosion.
Overall through the show, Lance actually ends up being very caring and protective towards his teammates.
I was unsure on how I wanted to do this analysis since, there is actually quite a lot I want to talk about, so I decided to highlight how Lance acts with every member of the team from this angle.
Keith
The Lion Switch and Keith stepping to pilot Black is what, for a lot of fans, kickstarts Lance's arc of becoming a more mature individual and team player.
But even as early as s1, we do have moments of Lance keeping Keith grounded, like when he stops him from being reckless and hurting the balmera.
Tumblr media
In season 3, when Keith is dealing with the loss of Shiro, everyone present decides to turn to Lance to handle it, Lance doesnt even notice what they are doing and instead goes to talk to Keith.
Tumblr media
It is interesting that, even Coran and Allura (the adult and the diplomat) also look at him to handle the situation. And it's not a case of just looking at the next person in line, since Pidge is very clearly looking in his direction.
They eventually join to talk to Keith too but not before Lance makes the first approach.
Tumblr media
And even when it was clear he really wanted to be chosen, Lance still quickly went to support Black's choice and thus, Keith's new position.
Tumblr media
Like Allura tells us later, this is what makes Red, the literal right hand lion to call for Lance.
Tumblr media
"You value a strong team"
Because thats what makes Lance really shine. His utter love and care for his team.
Even when he was clearly disappointed about not being chosen he decides to forget his own hurt to instead show to his unsure teammate.
And support he did.
Tumblr media
After Keith goes to follow Lotor and makes the team enter a difficult situation while Allura is struggling with Blue, it's Lance the one who manages to make him stop and return.
Tumblr media
Keith returns with Lance and shows he is regretful of his actions, one would think that Lance would take this chance to scold his "rival" but instead, he just acknowledges that Keith did mess up but now they are going to fix it. Showing Keith he is not alone in this.
After this incident Lance keeps being very vocally supportive of Keith (when he agrees with his orders).
Tumblr media
And will usually follow his orders to a T. For example in "The Journey Within" Keith made a system for the team to sound off every certain period of time, and when Keith stops seeing a point to it, Lance keeps going and the team follows his lead.
Tumblr media
It is also interesting to mention, these moments of Lance speaking softly to Keith when he is freaking out.
Another example would be when they get captured and Keith calls the name of his teammates, Lance being the first name he calls and the first to answer.
Tumblr media
This ended up being quite long and the 10 pic limit doesnt help either so I will be splitting this in parts.
Keith and Allura's section is, unsurprisingly, quite long but I managed to gather a little evidence to talk about Lance's relationship with all the team.
Hope you guys enjoyed this first part

Trying to go to sleep, making myself cry instead
Lance sits on the edge of his bed, glaring down at his hands as the clench and unfurl. “So, like-“ The words can’t seem to come out right. Maybe, if he glares hard enough, the problem will go away. “How much of this is okay?”
Keith tilts his head while he watches Lance, gaze so soft and lips slightly pouted. It’s a wonderful expression, one that Lance is steadily growing used to being directed at him. “What do you mean?”
He sighs and leans to the side, until his shoulder connect with Keith’s. He slumps, curling up into Keith’s space. “I’m a very affectionate person—“ Keith laughs “—but I don’t want to do too much. I guess, that I’m trying to ask is, what are your boundaries?”
Violet eyes blink slowly at him. He stays quiet for a moment while he thinks. “I guess, hugs and stuff are okay? I don’t really know, this doesn’t happen for me a lot.” His shoulder tenses slightly under Lance’s cheek. “The way you are with Hunk and Pidge, it’s like you get up in their personal space without even realizing it. I think, that’s okay for me. It startles me, a little bit, but it’s okay. I… I like it.”
Lance nods, cheek squished. He isn’t used to Keith being so open with him, but it is really nice. It’s nice to hear this, to see that Keith can be anything but hotheaded. (Though, that may be Lance’s fault. Keith only ever reacts to how he’s treated, and Lance loves to instigate.) “so stuff like this?” He leans a little heavier on Keith for emphasis.
A hesitant arm moves to wrap around his shoulders, fingers hesitating over his bicep before finally settling down. Keith nods and lets out a slow breath, relaxing. “Yeah. This is nice.”
Lance feels himself smile before he realizes it. “Awesome.” His voice is slightly muffled from his face being pressed to Keith’s shoulder, but the other boy is too warm and comfortable for him to care much. “Let me know if I’m ever too much, okay?”
He feels Keith stare, so he lifts his head to meet those gorgeous violet eyes, brows furrowed, lips pushed into a deep pout. “You’re not too much. Why would you be too much?”
He forces himself to laugh and shake his head, pretend those words don’t mean as much to him as they actually do. “Because I’m just a lot, man! When I get comfortable, I get comfortable.” Lance sits up a bit straighter, not missing the way Keith’s hand slides down his arm to hold him better. “Like- with my siblings, my cousins! Hell, with Hunk and sometimes Pidge, too. I-“ He makes a face while he tries to search for the proper words. “Like kisses! Forehead kisses, cheek kisses!” Lance laughs and wills himself not to flush, thinking about doing that to Keith. “That’d definitely be too much for you, mullet.” Tease, defuse, don’t make it awkward or vulnerable.
But the look on Keith’s face is sobering.
Eyes wide, tiny crease between his brows, mouth downturned in a way that makes Lance want to kiss away the sadness- his snaps his eyes back up to Keith’s. “What?”
“I don’t think anyone has ever done that to me.” His voice is impossibly quiet, frown growing and- oh. Oh no. That is a problem.
“What?!” Lance sits straight up, turning to face Keith fully. Keith’s hand falls away from Lance’s arm, returning back to his lap. “No one’s ever kissed you on the forehead? Ruffled your hair back? Kiss you goodnight?” Keith’s frown keeps growing, shoulders slumping in the slightest way. And it is a problem. Lance moves before he can get in his head about it, planting a chaste kiss to Keith’s cheek.
The boy, in turn, faces him with wide eyes, lips slightly parted in the most beautifully breathless way. “Oh. That was… nice.”
And that’s how Lance ends up kissing every bit of Keith’s face, until he hears him giggle and break, until they’re lying back and cuddling, until they’re whispering softly to each other, until they fall asleep. And if Lance kisses Keith’s forehead one last time as the boy drifts off, well, that’s nobody’s business but his own.

My toxic trait is waking up and thinking about how gay coded Keith was .
Tumblr media
LOOK AT HIM HE HAS NEVER HAD A FEMALE CRUSH AND HAS CONSTANTLY BEEN SURROUNDED BY MALES AND THE TIME HE DOES INTERACT WITH FEMALES, THEY ARE EITHER ALIENS OR PIDGE AND THEY HAVE A SIBLING GODAMN BOND
Also he and Lance have way to many moments together close up to be straight and sure bromances are a thing BUT IF EITHER OF THEM WERE TO BE A WOMEN THEN IT WOULD BE A CLASSIC RIVALS TO LOVERS PLOT
Tumblr media
THIS IS NOT STRAIGHT 😭
(also I head cannon lance as bisexual cus it lance ofc he's bi)
