I think I'm gonna talk about my VF OC more! For now, I'm gonna be self-indulgent with her and talk about potential lion placement, lol

I'm not sure if this would be canon to my rewrite, but I like the idea of Anya having a connection to yellow, especially because in VLD the yellow paladin basically wears their heart on their sleeve and tries to help everyone before themselves her being a royal advisor is legitimately the embodiment of half of that, the other comes from her personality as I like to think of her as an open book when it comes to her emotions

Obviously she isn't trained to be a pilot, she was never meant to be one nor does she want to be one. But my idea is that hunk get knocked down during a fight with a robeast, the team still being on Arus means Anya is there to help but what about the cadets? All of them are paired up with pilots already, Daniel with lance, Vince with Allura, and Larmina with pidge. Except as we see in every fight where it's the lions vs a robeast and not voltron themself, they don't fare too well

So the team can't get to Hunk, and he isn't responding to them at all. Then Anya makes the very stupid and very dangerous call to run out there and get to him herself. When she does, he doesn't respond to her either (but is otherwise ok) and while the team is yelling at her for choosing to do something like that, they at least recognize she can manually* start the lion.

*In reference to DOTU since they always activated their lions by inserting the key into them, the same way Sven did in Ghost In The Lion, instead of the remote start they have now with the voltcoms

Once yellow lion comes back online, everything is on her, and she doesn't know how to fly. Yet she knows the lions are sentient, so before taking her first attempt into piloting into an active war zone and piloting in general, she begs yellow to work with her because it's more than just her life that is in danger because of an inactive lion

There's definitely more to that part specifically, but that's when her connection happens. Yellow doesn't just kick on autopilot to help her out, she telepathically reaches out to her to tell* her that she was bold to think she could make a difference without having any skills to back her up, but that it was the right choice to make anyway

*I imagine they talk to anyone that's not their pilot but only if worthy of them similarly to bumblebee and his radio in the transformers Bay movies, with bits of pieces of people talking from their own memories, not perfect but gets the job done. The pilots can hear their actual voice though and have a stronger physical and mystical connection to them.

Anya and yellow manage to get back to the team, who are going nuts at the turn of events, and get close enough to green to let Larmina hop over to take over yellow. From there the battle is won and once they're back in the castle, with Hunk now conscious and getting checked out at med bay, the pilots all bombard her with questions over what happened and how she felt being about to talk to the lions.

She's obviously freaked out, but she's happy that something as important as a lion of voltron trusted her to do the right thing, especially enough to form a connection like that. Lance starts talking to her about doing flight training and the others agree, but she refuses to get into the pilot's seat again because she doesn't want to be out on the battlefield ever again

They manage to convince to her some training because even if she's not out there being another cadet, she's the closest thing to a backup pilot they've got right now, and they definitely need it against maahox's forces

@lnkedmyheart, I appreciate the counter and alternate perspective! Admittedly, my only engagements with the fanbase, outside of a rogue Youtube recommendation, have been on Tumblr and Archive Of Our Own. And, with K/L being, by far, the most popular ship, and Lance and Keith being the most popular characters on both of these sites, I've been inundated with a lot of... "questionable" opinions on Shiro. (People pretending they don't hate him while espousing the nastiest ableist, ageist, homophobic rhetoric based on absolutely nothing but the versions of these characters they've fabricated in their heads.) I don't use TikTok, but everything I've seen in screenshots and reposts on Tumblr and Youtube indicates that it is a cesspit of the worst ignorance, sensationalism, pettiness, immaturity, and puritanism from Tumblr and Twitter congealed into one massive lake of sewage and sludge.

The people who despise Shiro are definitely indulging in some sort of substance. How else do you explain looking at this man,

and deciding that he's an old, "broken", "monster"?

(It shouldn't be a point of pride for these people to regurgitate the exact language of Shiro's abuser.)

I can understand if Shiro isn't someone's cup of tea. We don't choose the favorite character, the favorite character chooses us. Maybe they find his quiet, reserved personality unappealing because they prefer louder, flashy, hyperactive types, or comic relief. That's fine. But, people who despise Takashi Shirogane are completely out of touch with reality.

Voltron is desperately missing "filler" episodes

the DND episode should've been way earlier (Allura brings out an altean game to get them to bond and it's clearly just dnd)

an episode of Shiro, Lance, and Keith teaching Pidge and Hunk how to fly (because let's be honest nobody's that good immediately)

Keith constantly tries to do missions alone and risks himself and Hunk talks some sense into him

mostly fleshing out relationships as well as characters (especially Hunk and Pidge)

where are my Pidge and Lance interactions (they're so sibling coded)

Shiro giving Keith a noogie

Hunk and Keith bonding (over literally anything they never interact)

Shiro giving Lance flying advice and reassuring him that he's a good pilot (maybe telling him to not compare himself to Keith so much)

A DEFINITIVE EPISODE WHERE LANCE AND KEITH TALK THROUGH THEIR ISSUES (mostly Lance)

like their arguing is messing up voltron so shiro makes them talk things out (maybe a "they're handcuffed together till they get along" type of thing)

allura learning about earth traditions

I feel like all the episodes are so action based that we don't see the characters bond

and basically any character outside of Keith and debatably Shiro don't get much of a character arc outside of one episode and a couple lines

I think a lot of the plot that was really terrible in the later seasons should've been cut for "filler"/character based episodes in the earlier seasons

hiii uh. dunno if this will make any sense, im kinda just throwing my thoughts at you

OKAY. so. been thinking about kuron(again) and the thing im just realising how ALONE he is, at least at the beggining. the people he thought of as his family fucking KILLED him, stole his body, and then basically forgot about him for YEARS. and after being ressurected- like, in the first few days, weeks, months- did kuron had ANY support? anyone to lean on?? to help him adjust to being alive again?

i know he starts to meet new people and make friends, and thats great! but. at the beggining....... lance was in a coma 'n shit, team voltron propably wasnt too enthusistic about helping kuron, and it just hit me that, at least the way i understand it(i might be wrong), he had to figure EVERYTHING out by himself

Oh god yes!!! To be honest i dont really have like a detailed idea for this part of the story like at best i have this one idea where Veronica is the first one to find him. Like in my head Veronica has been trying to track down Lance cause he ran away/didnt give the address once he moved out, isnt picking up his goddamn phone and literally dropped from the face of the earth and she cant find a trace of him. That was until apparently Lance?? 'Attacked' Shiro?? Like Shiro's fine just fainted and on bedrest and according to Curtis, Lance was saying something about "he is still in there" before apparently using Magic?? Somehow?? And taking something? From Shiro?? Yeah Veronica has no fucking clue. But a lead is a lead and she was able to track down Lance's new home only to find 1) a guy butt fuck naked coming out of a quintessence filled tub like the girl from Shining and who looks a bit like her boss. 2) her brother unconscious. She instinctly about to pull a gun on him except Kuron just slips and hits the floor, so now Veronica has two men she needs to drag to a hospital. Joy.

So like yeah Kuron's first stranger-to-acquintance-to-friend is Veronica. She neither has the history of All That™ the others have with Kuron, knows a bit about the clone situation to not be weirded out by it, but also doesnt really care about the whole Evil Clone thing™, cause i am so sorry but she has seen this man fall on his face first 5 times and counting, cry over a fridge ad that had kittens in it, and try to name himself Frank Shelley, even if he somehow becomes Evil~ Veronica is sure she can just Take him down easily, and like what is she supposed to do? Just leave him? He clearly has even less of an idea what is going on and she cant in good conscience leave him like this.

And thing is that Veronica does want to support Kuron, because he deserves that! It's the right thing to do and he deserves that! But at the start he really is a stranger to her and Lance is more of a priority to her than he is, and he is like one of the only leads that explains what is going on with Lance. And while she wont admit this but Kuron can tell and like logically He Gets That™!! He Gets That™!!! And he wants to help Lance too!! But he's also someone who is used and thrown away by everyone around him and this shit hurts like hell. Like this is a recipe of disaester for both of them and will result in a shouting match but right now Kuron is too high on pain meds and pain of being alive again to truly get into it so.

So like physically he isnt really alone in figuring this out, Veronica is trying to help him as much as she can help him, and the hospital staff she dragged him to are really nice to him as well. Emotionally......well there is effort. Vero is trying! Heck she even defended him when Shiro suggested they should lock him up cause he was a danger to everyone and is evil. She is trying but she also has her own trauma, whatever is going on with Lance, her family having separation anxiety, her job, etc etc and she can only do so much, and like Kuron is also trying but he is also dealing with so much and pushing it into the back burner and my guy is just not having great time at all. So like yeah he did had to figure out so much himself

Uhhhh I LOVE Lance and Pidge's dynamic, and I LOVE the concept of them being like siblings to each other.

Like Pidge reminds Lance of his niece, while Lance reminds Pidge of her older brother. They both get homesick a lot, and just resort to hanging out with each other bc they make each other feel like they're at home.

Idk I like the idea of them doing stupid sibling stuff. They steal the game console from the other's room, they snatch food that's clearly labeled "Lance" or "Pidge", they have inside jokes no one else gets.

keith and pidge sibling dynamic needs to be explored more. i mean in general everyones dynamics but like. GAH. they have the biggest age gap of the younger paladins but they have the same kind of… style?

theyre pretty sarcastic or dry in humor, like to figure things out on their own, incredibly clever and resourceful, also have the closest bonds to shiro + connections to kerberos!!

like just them chatting :( i know klance being the dynamic where keith confides in lance but i feel like he could totally be more authentic or vulnerable around pidge too. he hates how protective shiro is of his insecurities and how it makes keith worry so he tries to be more open with pidge

him comforting pidge while tryna find her family, because he understands her in a way. pidge also makes him feel more comfortable around people since she doesnt judge him for his stranger habits.

A study on Lance's underrated role on the team.

Or, "Yes, there was a Space Mom"

Some time ago, I made a post saying that, the closest thing to a "Space Mom" the paladins ever had was actually Lance and I wanted to make a post elaborating more on why I thought so.

Now this is not me saying that we have to put this Team in neat nuclear family boxes, even Shiro, the one who the fandom collectively agrees to call "Space Dad" doesnt fit perfectly the Team Dad trope, but what I mean is that, this role is one that most of the time it appears naturally in any group of friends/people.

So, lets start with seeing how TVTropes describes what is a Team Mom:

"In an ensemble show, especially of the fighting kind, there needs to be someone to hold this Ragtag Bunch of Misfits together before they kill each other or wander off into the woods like so many Player Characters."

"The Team Mom basically acts as the mother figure for everyone else in the group, regardless of age or family relations."

"Although the role itself is traditionally female, the overprotective dad or older brother can qualify for Team Mom"

"They are by definition never the loner, and will in fact tend to be the one who pulls them into the cast's orbit as a Sixth Ranger. If anyone can break through and bring about a Heel–Face Turn or Cooldown Hug, it's them"

"if any of their surrogate children or siblings are threatened, they can snap into angry Mama Bear mode and kick some ass"

Basically, this role is less about gender and age and more about how the character threats the rest of their peers.

It is hard to imagine resident flirty goofball Lance as fitting in a role like this since, usually, characters that are referred to as the "Team Mom", seem a bit more responsible and mature.

And, admittedly, it is a role that he has to grow into a bit, but even in the first episode he already had some shades of this:

Covering for Pidge and taking the brunt of Iverson's anger, running to aid someone who had fallen from one of the pods (before knowing it was a pretty girl) and protecting Coran from a explosion.

Overall through the show, Lance actually ends up being very caring and protective towards his teammates.

I was unsure on how I wanted to do this analysis since, there is actually quite a lot I want to talk about, so I decided to highlight how Lance acts with every member of the team from this angle.

Keith

The Lion Switch and Keith stepping to pilot Black is what, for a lot of fans, kickstarts Lance's arc of becoming a more mature individual and team player.

But even as early as s1, we do have moments of Lance keeping Keith grounded, like when he stops him from being reckless and hurting the balmera.

In season 3, when Keith is dealing with the loss of Shiro, everyone present decides to turn to Lance to handle it, Lance doesnt even notice what they are doing and instead goes to talk to Keith.

It is interesting that, even Coran and Allura (the adult and the diplomat) also look at him to handle the situation. And it's not a case of just looking at the next person in line, since Pidge is very clearly looking in his direction.

They eventually join to talk to Keith too but not before Lance makes the first approach.

And even when it was clear he really wanted to be chosen, Lance still quickly went to support Black's choice and thus, Keith's new position.

Like Allura tells us later, this is what makes Red, the literal right hand lion to call for Lance.

"You value a strong team"

Because thats what makes Lance really shine. His utter love and care for his team.

Even when he was clearly disappointed about not being chosen he decides to forget his own hurt to instead show to his unsure teammate.

And support he did.

After Keith goes to follow Lotor and makes the team enter a difficult situation while Allura is struggling with Blue, it's Lance the one who manages to make him stop and return.

Keith returns with Lance and shows he is regretful of his actions, one would think that Lance would take this chance to scold his "rival" but instead, he just acknowledges that Keith did mess up but now they are going to fix it. Showing Keith he is not alone in this.

After this incident Lance keeps being very vocally supportive of Keith (when he agrees with his orders).

And will usually follow his orders to a T. For example in "The Journey Within" Keith made a system for the team to sound off every certain period of time, and when Keith stops seeing a point to it, Lance keeps going and the team follows his lead.

It is also interesting to mention, these moments of Lance speaking softly to Keith when he is freaking out.

Another example would be when they get captured and Keith calls the name of his teammates, Lance being the first name he calls and the first to answer.

This ended up being quite long and the 10 pic limit doesnt help either so I will be splitting this in parts.

Keith and Allura's section is, unsurprisingly, quite long but I managed to gather a little evidence to talk about Lance's relationship with all the team.

As time progresses, they all become friends and Lance finally finds someone to help him explore his bisexuality - his gay neighbor Keith.

They strike a deal = Lance helps Keith find a social life while Keith becomes Lance's wingman, but what happens when both men realize that their deal has become more complicated than they expected.

One was dead and the other was Hunk.Late one night while Hunk and Lance were having a private conversation Keith accidentally interrupted. His presence wasn't as disruptive as Lance had expected and things began to change between them. A bond is formed and becomes something neither could have imagined. Literally, it's not something they could explain to their friends and teammates...Can they navigate their new relationship while keeping it all a secret from their team? maybe? But probably not.

Aka: Lance is not OK. He has a huge crush on Keith and suddenly gets a chance to do something about it. Oh, but wait, first he has to try and stay alive in the cold vacuum of space. Maybe he can get the guy and survive at the same time? Either way that's the path he decided to take! plus overcoming anxiety and trauma! yeah...

This is a Lance character study that got out of control and grew a massive plot.
