Ya know, obviously Siffrin (whose name auto correct keeps changing to suffering, which is pretty fitting lol) went through hell and back with the loops. All the angsty art and fics around that I totally get and love to see, however I like to imagine the toll their whole journey took on everyone…

It’s brought up in the game how the King’s power over Vuagarde had a huge impact on Bonnie with their sister + with Mirabelle having the weight of saving a country on her shoulders, but I can’t recall if anything was brought up with Isa and Odile? (Oh nooOOoOo, how awful I can’t remember! Guess I’ll just have to rewatch a let’s play of the game again! What a shame… /j) So yeah :3 Nightmares for everyone! Though Sif definitely has gotten quite a lot more baggage from their journey (which I do intend to make art of eventually..)

He'd found the pack of cards in his father's study. The drawer was usually kept locked. But Kreacher had been tasked with reorganising some papers and had left it open. It had taken only a moment for Sirius to slip inside the room, to consider quickly what to take, and to swipe the small box. It was light. Easy to conceal. The ornate and gilt lettering, embossed into the leather, had him intrigued.

The Ashmedain Deck.

He'd never heard of it. Although he was hardly surprised. Grimmauld Place was full of dark magical artefacts that his parents took little care to conceal.

So these cards must be different...dangerous...his father's secret...

Safe in his room, with a chair propped under the door handle for good measure, Sirius sat cross-legged on the floor and read the back of the box:

An enchanted deck that will reveal,

Dark desires best concealed.

Beware to those who do not know,

The fantasies the cards will show.

Sirius' curiosity momentarily wavered. Perhaps this wasn't such a good idea? But even as the thought had crossed his mind he had opened the box, tipped the cards into his hands, and had begun to shuffle.

There were no further instructions. Sirius acted on instinct. He fanned the cards out on the floor before him, the backs of the cards facing upwards. He closed his eyes and cleared his mind as though using them for divination. After a moment, Sirius moved his hand, hovering over the cards, waiting for the sensation to come. He paused when it felt right. He opened his eyes, reached down and flipped over the card.

Sirius felt an initial thrill of disappointment. The front of the card was blank. But as he inspected closer he noticed a shimmer ripple across the card. An image had begun to form, out of focus and unclear. Sirius wasn't certain, but it looked like the curve of someone's calf. The card's magic seemed to fix. The image froze.

Sirius growled in frustration and flipped another card.

This time the image was clearer; two legs intertwined. A sense of unease began to creep through him. But there was temptation, too...

Another card. More legs. Draped across a body. A body he recognised as his...

Sirius hesitated, his heart racing, his fingers pricking as he considered whether to continue...

... But he needed to see...

... Just one card more...

He swallowed hard and flipped another card.

This card revealed a torso, lean and scarred and naked. Sirius knew the torso well. He had seen it many times. But not like this...

... But he had wondered... and he had noticed... but he still wasn't sure what it meant...

The cards seemed to know.

He flipped another. The image rippled. Collar bones and shoulders. The back of his head, a mess of dark hair, tumbling across the skin of someone else...

He flipped another. A jaw. Lips parted in exaltation. A mouth flecked with scars.

Just one more card, a voice inside him seemed to whisper. He felt hot. His head swum. Guilt and shame and desire fluttered in his stomach. He knew that he should stop...

... But he had to know for sure...

Sirius flipped the card. The scene appeared. His breath caught as he watched the image, lips fusing, hot, and frantic. Familiar hands raked through his hair.

The picture froze. Whether it was temptation or the magic of the cards, Sirius did not know. He felt his hand reach out again as though he couldn't stop it...

... He had to know...

... He wanted to see...

... Just one more card...

Today was a free choice, so I gave @glassf1re the option of coming up with the word for today. The Ashmedain Deck is a device of my own creation.

to be honest with you guys, I'm kinda torn on whether or not swindle would be a chronic-overspender or a massive cheapskate

I mean. I get it: swindle is flashy. swindle has expensive taste. swindle dreams of being spoiled, of a house full of lavish things with a belly full of high-grade energon. and he damn well has enough shanix and credits to buy said things.

but would he be so bold as to spend his money on it?

a part of me says yes. I mean, swindle is living through wartime. maybe a part of him thinks that if he doesn't treat himself today, he might not live tomorrow to enjoy the comfort of his wealth. hence all the fancy mods, beautiful furniture, sleek spaceships, etc.

besides, it helps with stress. gives swindle a rush of dopamine when he purchases something costly. it's a symbol that all of his crimes and hard work have amounted to something. that what he's done is justified (at least to him). let all the glorified "morality-policing" bots clutch their pearls at his greed, at least swindle can AFFORD to indulge

that's something many bots can't do nowadays

besides, swindle is kiiinda conceited and DEFINITELY self-entitled. with a mech like that, who's surprised that he has some alarming spending habits?

but another part of me argues that BECAUSE swindle is in a war, he'd be even more stingy with his money. after all, I think it's a fair assumption to say swindle uses his wealth as a leverage. it places him in the lap of luxury. it buys him out of danger. it gains him intel from bots with loose lips. it keeps bots in debt to him. it silences his opponents. it fetches him bots willing to do favors for him (ex. mercenaries and such). apart from his wit and words, money is one of swindle's deadliest weapons

and if he spent that money on something expensive, then swindle would, by extent, be risking his life

I kinda find the latter idea more compelling

though, he could be somewhere down the middle. some weeks, swindle can't seem to stop spending. hes maxing out his credit card, filling his cart to the brim with meaningless items, piling and piling on more debt.

the next few weeks, swindle is under a strict budget, skimping meals, stressing over the amount of debt he's collected and overworking himself in order to compensate for it all

he's stuck with this dilemma. and he can never seem to get out of it. he WANTS to be able to spend on himself, wants that life of comfort he craves. but he can only spend so much before his consciousness takes over and chastises him for being reckless. the only way he ever slips back into spending is when his greedy nature comes in and encourages swindle to work harder on his business. scam a couple of bots. plan some heists. that'll get the credits rolling in. and after a nice little profit or two, swindle will be able to treat himself again, after weeks of processor-breaking hustling.

it's an endless cycle of overindulgence and abstinence. there is no middle ground. he's always on either side on the spectrum. swindle's greed might make him successful, yes, but it's also destroyed his relationship with money

I dunno. feel free to share your thoughts. I just like the idea of swindle's greed creating more problems for him, even though he argues his life has gotten drastically better ever since he out himself and money first
