Danganronpa: Reversed Time (DRDT Opposite AU)

DRRT is the opposite AU of Danganronpa Despair Time! It's basically just all of the characters in DRDT having their opposite personalities - or at least, they're all just wildly out of character.

Ace Markey - SHSL Jockey Ace is an incredible jockey, having won dozens of awards for his talent... However, people tend to find his lack of response a bit unnerving. Ace seems to have little to no emotion or expression, being neutral in many circumstances.

Veronika Grebenshchikova - SHSL Horror Analyst Veronika Grebenshchikova is constantly looking for the thrill of being scared, leading to her interest in horror fiction. However, upon attempting to share her findings, many of those who are close to her have taken quite the disdain for such topics. So she is less inclined to share anything in terms of horror, embarrassed about her past tendency to get carried away when talking about horror.

Arei Nageishi - SHSL Bowler Arei Nageishi made her debut in the bowling world as a teenager by winning multiple bowling championships. Though she may look cute, she doesn't make any effort to try to impress anyone. With good sportsmanship, many find themselves relating to Arei in some way, especially in the way where she doesn't find a need to constantly integrate with others, and is fine standing off to the side.

Julia Rosales - SHSL Effects Artist Julia Rosales, famously known for being Maribella Rosales's daughter, specializes in theater special effects and has worked on famous musicals and plays in her life. However, many of her notable roles are actually with her mother in movies, even if they do not correspond to her ultimate. There are rumors saying that Julia does not like this line of work, but she and her mother have denied these claims.

Rose Lacroix - SHSL Art Forger As the ultimate art forger, Rose Lacroix is able to paint copies of famous masterpieces that are so realistic that many mistake them for being the real deal. She owes this talent to her photographic memory. However, her memory can also be seen as a curse. Unable to relax, Rose seems to constantly be thinking of something, even if that something is unpleasant. She can often be seen trying to keep herself busy, as if she's trying to not think, but failing.

Alexander Matthews - SHSL Rebel Despite his looks, Alexander is very passionate about what he does. He earned his ultimate by constantly projecting his voice against what he deemed as wrong, often breaking the status quo. However, his passion has a habit of going south, as he gets angry with many people. Just know that if his jacket goes around his waist, he truly means business.

Levi Fontana - SHSL Personal Stylist His appearance may be intimidating, and good for reason. Levi Fontana is not afraid to say what is on his mind, even if the ways he says it are unprofessional. Her goals seem to differ from day to day, but he likely does have good intentions, even if the ways he does these are a bit... unconventional.

Teruko Tawaki - SHSL Lucky Student The protagonist. Despite being the ultimate Lucky Student, it seems like the only luck Teruko has is bad luck. Accidents constantly plague Teruko and those around her. Despite this, Teruko holds a strong trust for many people around her, trying to find the best in people. Sometimes, she even tries to justify people's wrongdoings, especially for her peers.

Hu Jing - SHSL Zither Player Hu Jing is an incredibly talented musician who specializes in the zither. It's said that whenever she plays, she can bring tears to those even the most unemotional. However, it's not like many have had the opportunity to hear such a song, as Hu is an incredibly cruel person. Having unknown motivations, she seems to love bringing people to their worst. Hu possesses a very nagging personality, and once she sees a target, it's hard for her to let go.

Charles Cuevas - SHSL Chemist There's no doubt that Charles Cuevas is very educated and talented in his field of study. However, he does not see that as an excuse to be cruel or superior to others. He is incredibly patient with others, being the perfect teacher. It's said that if he gives you a lesson, then you can understand the material within the night. Some do complain that he can be a bit condescending, but very few feel this way.

Arturo Giles - SHSL Plastic Surgeon Arturo Giles is a plastic surgeon who specializes in cosmetic surgery. Despite this, he is a very caring person who doesn't seem to see the difference between ugly and beautiful. If he does then he simply does not show it. Seeing nearly everyone as equals, it's been said that he sugarcoats things to a concerning degree, especially if others would call the person in question "ugly".

Eden Tobisa - SHSL Clockmaker Tired and sarcastic, Eden is seen as a rather unapproachable clockmaker. Though she is increasingly skilled in her work, she seems to dislike customer interaction and avoids it as much as possible. Instead, she gets absorbed into her work, avoiding interaction as much as possible. Eden is rarely ever emotional, relying on logic much more than necessary. However, it still has it's payoff, doesn't it?

Min Jing - SHSL Student One of the top performers, Min has rightfully earned her title as the ultimate student. Or, that's what the public seems to think. However, much of her talent actually relies on last-minute preparations. Despite this, Min truly knows what she's talking about; she just focuses on the main ideas rather than individual points.

Whit Young - SHSL Matchmaker It's easy to mistake Whit for anything else aside from a matchmaker. Trying to make light of things and crack jokes, he often finds little to no positive responses. Because of this, he seems to have a severe lack of confidence, often second-guessing himself. Oddly enough, this guaranteed even more success for his clients, seeing as how he found a need to back his claims with facts instead of focusing on his intuition.

David Chiem - SHSL Motivational Speaker David is a motivational speaker who has motivated many people with his speeches. As one would expect, David is very optimistic about just about anything. Though many people suspect him to be very pessimistic and lazy, many sources prove this to be wrong. However, more rumors seem to have popped up, claiming David to be more self-absorbed than he let on. Just like the past rumors, these claims are unreliable.

Nico Hakobyan - SHSL Pet Therapist As the ultimate pet therapist, Nico possesses an incredible ability to work with animals, working with their owners to grow a stronger bond. Nico loves their job and especially loves seeing how happy the owners can become. They seem great with customers, striking up friendly conversations with them. However, looking beyond the surface, it seems that sometimes Nico has never heard of the word "enough".

MonoTV A strange robot with a television for a head. MonoTV is the mascot and "host" for a strange TV show called "Danganronpa: Despair Time". It makes sure that people know it's in charge, being oddly responsible and almost acting like a "parent" to the more chaotic cast members. Also, it claims to be a cat, despite having an appearance more like a dog.

Decided to name this AU after Mukuro's Luck Talent.

"Makoto... What makes you the SHSL assassin? Like... I know you're a ninja, but-" his laugh cut her off, and she couldn't help but blush.

"Sorry, but I'm not really a ninja. I mean, a little, but I'm also kind of a spy, I guess?" Makoto explained, and Mukuro mumbled that was cool too. He caught it, judging by his smile.

"If I had to say..." Makoto continued, hand on his chin, thinking, "it's because of multiple factors, but the biggest one is my presence manipulation."

"Presence manipulation?" It sounded like some kind of silly rpg skill. Mukuro leaned forward with interest anyway.

"Uh, you know how I'm hard to keep track of, no matter what I'm doing? That. I can do the opposite too." She blinked at the last part; she didn't know that. The first, of course she knew, it made Makoto sorta... Clingy with basically everyone he talked to, since they could lose him at any moment.

"Can you show me the second?" Mukuro scooted back as if to give him room. Makoto hummed and nodded.

Then the entire world disappeared. It was only Makoto. The floor didn't exist, the sky didn't exist, she didn't exist-

"Uh, Mukuro? How was that?"

"Huh?"

Makoto frowned, and the question finally hit," Ah, it.. was? Sorry, I uh-"

"It's fine," he cut her off, "you know, I've also been wondering about your Talent. How does your's work?"

Mukuro couldn't fight the frown off her face. "They... don't know, not really. They know it exists and that I can negate even 100% odds, but... that's it. We don't know how I can control it, or if I even can." She hugged her knees. "The researchers can't figure out if I need to meet requirements, or if there's a cool down like that other guy's Luck, and it definitely doesn't work in cycles like Komaeda's."

Better than nothing, really. She didn't even know she had a Talent before this, but... Did it have to be Luck? Something so unreliable?

Makoto didn't say anything for a second, " you don't like your Talent," a firm statement, " I do, in fact, I'm jealous."

What? "How? Your Talent is so cool, and I didn't even know mine existed!" She sat up, staring him in the eyes.

He didn't back down, "that's precisely why I'm jealous. Mine manifested itself when I was young... really young." There was more to it, a haunted emotion she normally wouldn't dare touch.

"But you can go ghost like Toko or be the center of attention like Leon, or Sakura. You can fight like some sorta anime character, I-"

"-Had a normal childhood. No one who lived as a SHSL Talent can say that." It shut her down, took the wind out of sails right before she could get started. Guilt locked her in place.

She knew what he said was true. She could see it in the way Taka only thought in orders; how Chihiro decided to indulge fantasy rather than reality; how Kyoko saw everything as puzzle or equation to be solved; how Toko thought herself a camera more than a person.

And how Makoto never really talked about himself, only ever giving surface level details - even about personal things. Like he was afraid to get close.

"... I'm sorry." I'm sorry I'm still so, so jealous.

Background

Yumeto's mother died in childbirth, leaving him with his bitter father. In his father's eyes, he had killed his mother, so he better be worth it. Yumeto does not remember much at all about his early childhood, just that as soon a he was physically able, his dad piled all chores of the house onto him.

Yumeto was expected from a young age to be the woman of the house, clean, cook, and take care of himself. His father, a conservative salary man, simply couldn't be bothered to do anything for Yumeto but hammer in just how worthless he was and pile on even more expectations.

The stress got to Yumeto, who begun to cope with the aid of an imaginary friend who took the form of the most capable person ever, Izuru Kamakura, only as a child the same age as him. This imaginary friend turned out to be a headmate (Isami) as they developed a system, one who wanted this pain to stop.

Isami took on school and chore responsibilities, and excelled at schoolwork. He was a smart kid, not that their dad recognized that. Even with all Isami did, trying to learn to do everything, the abuse didn't stop.

Yumeto turned to online gaming for solace, and so that his outgoing nature wouldn't be as hampered by his natural awkwardness. He wasn't a big name, avoiding competive gaming, but he did become a top member of several guilds across various MMOs, and an insanely talented support player.

As teens the pair, though mostly Isami pushed for it, came up with a plan to enter any and all competitions they could to win enough prize money to pay their way out. Isami took a scattershot approach entering any that he saw and regularly getting second or third place earning the winners up prizes, while Yumeto focused on gaming related ones, winning prizes for his teams.

This plan ultimately was what caught Hope's Peak's attention, and got them enrolled. If Yumeto's actions got them scouted they are officially the SHSL Co-Op Gamer, and if it Isami officially they are the SHSL Jack of All Trades.

SHSL Co-Op Gamer

As the SHSL Co-Op Gamer Yumeto excels at playing video games with other people, able to rapidly adjust to other's playstyles and fill in any role required for the team. He has incredible hand eye coordination, good shotcalling/delegation skills, leadership, strategizing, and a photographic memory allowing him to recall the most obscure of mechanics or facts about teammates.

When playing video games on his own he is an incredibly talented gamer able to beat out all but the top players of the world when putting in the effort to.

His skills also extend to things like TRPGS, board games, and escape rooms, along with more mundane uses for the skills mentioned.

SHSL Jack of All Trades

As the SHSL Jack of All Trades Isami is above average at practically every skill. Able to do a competent job at everything ranging from preparing a meal to building a rocket. They are better at each skill than the average person, and at least as competent as someone who uses the skill professionally, but would be easily beat out by a normal expert of the field.

Isami is not a match for any SHSL in their talent or any talents related to their talent (such as not matching the SHSL Cook's baking skills).

They are extremely adaptable, well read in a variety of topics, and has a photographic memory.

System Info

Yumeto is original to the body and acts as the host of the system.

Isami formed as a factive of Izuru Kamakura, meaning the basis of his identity came from what the brain knew of Izuru. He has many traits similar to Izuru, and developed a similar talent. They are their own separate person though, and should not be confused for Izuru.

Isami's role is that of a protector to protect from their father and other authority figures that would exploit them both.

All members of the system share memories with each other. Isami may refer to things that happened in a thread with Yumeto or vise versa for example.

There are other members of the system who might rarely show up in threads, but are not in focus.

As mentioned in my last post, it has become tradition for me to photograph my domestic rats post-mortem in a tasteful way to honor my original rescue rat, Venus.

As of January 20th, 2023, I’d had to make the terrible decision to euthanize two of my girls, Saturn and Jupiter, on the 31st of that same month.

Their respective masses (undiagnosed malignant or benign) had grown to a point of either discomfort or risk of rupture, and it was time to let go and say goodbye.

While I’m grateful they were able to be together in their stress at the vet, I was also heartbroken to see them go, as was my sibling @shsl-blunderer, who favored Saturn for her kisses and sweet personality.

Despite this intense grief, we did our damndest to ensure their fun/possible comfort on their last day.

When they were laid to rest, I continued the tradition of their post mortem photoshoot surrounded with flowers.

I hope you find them as beautiful as I found them during their lifetimes.

what are the core character dynamics of your story?

Dammit you're good at asking probing questions.

The SHSL Detective is probably the loudest character we have, not just in terms of characterization but also in terms of naturally stealing the spotlight in a death-game - she revels in this kind of attention too, so she'll gleefully hog it.

In terms of quieter characters that are already jumping out as "this person will be a major player in trials", had the idea of the first chapter being set on a train (the MC is a Novelist, so at least one Christie homage is basically mandatory), and the idea of the SHSL Civil Engineer deducing the train's traveling in a large loop by making an educated guess from the relative left/right tilts of the train felt like a cool "establish this character is smart" moment.

The Photographer and Street Artist are both art snobs but in different ways. They'll probably bounce off of each other.

What is your character's worst habit that they don't realize is a habit? How has this habit affected them? If they ever realized said habit, would they try to stop doing it?

Hm.. this is a hard one.

Damien's habit is probably being skeptical of everyone, whether their intentions are good or not doesn't matter. He doesn't want to get close to people, because they would just stab him in the back.. right? He has major trust issues, which have only gotten worse because of this habit. He might try to stop, but... he most likely wouldn't stop. Not without help, at least.
