my girl 💌
lucy gray baird x fem reader
Lucy Gray would do anything for you. You want to celebrate Valentine’s Day? She’ll sell her soul to give you the day you deserve.
so much fluff, mentions of sex, 1.6k words
Tumblr media
Lucy Gray Baird has always thought of Valentine’s Day as a pointless, commercial event institutionalised by the Capitol.
The Covey has always rejected these kinds of capitalist holidays imposed solely for the purpose of making money, and Valentine’s Day is no exception to that rule. Lucy Gray doesn’t need the Capitol to tell her when she ought to celebrate her beloved. No, she’ll do that all year round. (As if the Covey don’t have their own festivities, anyway. Lucy Gray wakes you on every solstice with a bundle of flowers she’s picked from the woods, not bought, and poetic affirmations of her love.)
It hadn’t really occurred to her that you’d want to celebrate Valentine’s Day, to be honest. This is the first one you’ll be spending with her as her girlfriend, but you’ve known each other a long while and by now you’ve surely picked up on her indifference to the subject. This year she goes about her business as she always has, politely averting her gaze when she sees vendors at the Hob trying to pawn off Valentine-themed goods, and bringing you flowers or sweet little trinkets at any time she pleases. But if Lucy Gray is one thing, it’s hopelessly devoted to you, and she would do anything under the sun to bring a smile to your face. So when she hears you make an offhand comment to Tam Amber about wondering what this year’s Valentine’s Day will be like, her entire stance on the matter is instantly changed.
“You’re whipped beyond comprehension, Lu,” Barb Azure laughs as she watches her younger cousin fret over her plans.
“I don’t give a rat’s ass what you think of anythin’, Barb Azure, I just need your help,” Lucy Gray replies distractedly, kneading the dough of the bread she’s making with vigour. “So are you helpin’ me? Or no?”
On the morning of Valentine’s Day, Lucy Gray Baird kisses you awake, her smile so sweet you can taste it on your tongue.
“Mornin’, baby,” she says sweetly. She’s already up and dressed, and her skin is vibrant with the fresh-found dew of the morning. “Brought you flowers.”
“Morning, Lu,” your heart fills with warmth, “you’re the sweetest.”
“Happy Valentine’s, my sweet girl,” she murmurs, pulling you close to her, littering kisses atop of your hair. “Lord, I love you more’n anything.”
“Love you so much, Lucy Gray,” you whisper, toying with her fingers. You keep coming back to her ring finger, and solemnly swearing to yourself that someday you’ll find her a token of your love to wear upon it. Today isn’t the day — you’re both so young, still young enough to be Reaped — but you know that when the time comes you’ll give yourself over to Lucy Gray forever.
“When you’re thinkin’ that hard I can hear the bits in your brain whirring,” Lucy Gray tells you, eyes sparkling with mirth. “It’s real cute. What’s on your mind, darlin’?”
“Wanna marry you someday,” you mumble. Lucy Gray is rarely caught off guard, but this gets her, and her cheeks flood with colour. Her smile, though, only widens.
“I— it’ll happen someday, baby. I’ll make sure of it.”
You help one another get dressed, all giggles and teeth and hearts on sleeves. Outside it’s warm, the warmest it’s been all season, and you can feel winter breaking as life returns to the dormant earth beneath your feet.
“What’s today lookin’ like, Lu?” you ask.
“Thought we could go to the lake.” She grins easily at you, and it’s contagious.
The two of you amble through the woods, hand in hand, content to take your time together. The whole sweet sunny day stretches out in front of you, warm and dry (Lucy Gray takes one look at the clouds in the sky and determines today will be free of rain throughout, and in seventeen years she’s not been wrong yet) and full of love. Your eyes are fixed on her, the way hers are constantly darting around, not necessarily on guard but more eager to take in all the world has to offer. Every little detail is of significance to Lucy Gray. How her brain works is a beautiful mystery to you, but you’ve learnt she has a way of reading her surroundings, and she can see signs of the future in the earth as easily as she can breathe. Barb Azure says she’s a walking oracle. A few times she’s tried to explain to you how she notices what she does. There’s always a kind of sense to it, but you’ll never get it in the way she does. You’re more than content to sit back and watch her in her element, though. You just feel grateful to be by her side, your one and only, your angel among men.
“Look.” She stops you to point at two four-leaved clovers at the roots of a tree which have grown together so much that their stems are intertwined. “That means you’n me are forever.”
Your stomach swarms with butterflies. “Sure hope so.”
“I know so,” she tells you, brown eyes bright as she presses a kiss to your lips.
The little earthy plateau above the jetty of the lake, the one protruding from the flowers and trees, has been absolutely transformed since you saw it last. The thick, sturdy picnic blanket often used by the Covey on adventures has been laid out beautifully, and is held in secure place by rocks piled on each corner. Ever so carefully arranged atop the blanket are comfy pillows and a picnic for two, with the food set out all pretty in little jars and bowls and handkerchiefs. From where you’re stood you can see a few different kinds of bread and cake, freshly pressed jams, and fruits and berries. Even with how much of this she could’ve foraged, it shakes you how much tesserae has gone into this. Propped against the bough of a tree is her beloved guitar, with her little notebook of songs beside it.
You let out a little noise of surprise when you first lay eyes upon the scene. Lucy Gray fights a losing battle in trying not to smile at how fucking cute you are.
“What’d’you think?” she asks instead, not quite looking at you, toeing at the ground. “Barb Azure helped me with all the bakin’, n’then me’n the boys dolled it up all nice. They were real helpful.” (You know exactly what she means, too. Clerk Carmine is shaping up to be a real painter, he’s got an artist’s eye, and you know this kind of thing would be right up his street.)
You’re in awe for a moment, not even sure what to say. Lucy Gray’s dark eyes blink at you hopefully. She’d never say it, she’d rather die than say it, but you know that the ever so subtle tension to her shoulders, the slight tilt to her chin phrase a silent question.
“It… it’s so gorgeous, Lu, I can’t even, thank you,” you manage. Her posture softens and she steps forward to cup your face in her hands.
“I wanna treat you how you deserve, baby,” she tells you sincerely, and then pecks at your lips before her arms drop down to her sides again. “Now c’mon, or the damn flies’ll eat before we do.”
The two of you stay at the lake together for hours. Perhaps you wouldn’t have picked a February picnic of your own volition, but just as Lucy Gray predicted the weather’s so gorgeous you’re sure she must’ve charmed the skies the way she does with everyone else. You voice this thought to her, and she only laughs, her smile reaching her eyes as she feeds you another berry.
Eventually, as the sun begins to set above the two of you, painting the sky in pinks and golds, the air grows cooler, and you find yourself shivering in Lucy Gray’s arms. Ever-vigilant, she notices.
“Awww, is my baby cold?” she coos. “Don’t worry, I’ll warm you up.” Her hands ghost your sides teasingly, and you blush.
“Shut your mouth, Lucy Gray.”
She gasps, feigning offence. “Why, I thought you liked it wide open.”
You let out a noise of surprise, and hide your face in her hair. Lucy Gray laughs heartily, and cradles you to her, telling you over and over how sweet you are. The moon awakes her silver tongue, though, and as the skies get darker she trips you up again and again with filthy words which, eventually, turn to filthy actions.
Once the act is over, once Lucy Gray’s mouth has been put to good use, the two of you swaddle yourselves in all of the blankets and lie in a little cocoon, gazing up at the stars.
“Thank you, for today,” you whisper, so close to her that you don’t have to move at all to kiss her cheek. “Means a lot.”
She shrugs, nonchalant. “You honour our culture, you join in and all. This day was important to you, I wanted t’honour yours.”
You laugh softly. “You’re sweet. …I don’t think I would call the Districts my culture.”
“No?” Lucy Gray asks, genuinely curious. You shake your head. “What is, then?”
“Don’t know. I got nothing. Just what you teach me.”
She lets out a hum of amusement. “Yeah? You wanna be Covey?” She says it with humour, but the hope in your eyes has her straightening a little. “Y— you do?”
“If you’ll have me,” you say shyly.
Her heart swells against the bars of her chest. “If we’ll ha—? Darlin’, I want this more’n anything,” she tells you lowly. “We love you. I love you. You’re one of us.”
“I’m yours,” you whisper.
“You’re mine. I’m yours. My girl,” she murmurs, fingers beginning to comb through your hair. You press your cheek against hers, so overwhelmed with love for her, and continue to gaze up at the stars with your love.

okay, i finally saw tbosas and here are my thoughts
1. i personally think it would have benefited from being split into two movies, one in the capitol, one in twelve
2. i feel like sejanus wasn’t fleshed out as well as he could have been. i absolutely adore him but in the movie he came across as more reckless as opposed to filled with righteous fury, and his death wasn’t as painful as i was expecting (let’s be honest i wanted to fall to my knees sobbing at his death and instead i was just ‘ahhh noooo ☹️’)
3. ma deserved to be better featured in the movie + she would have helped flesh sejanus out (also to show snow’s relationship with the plinths in general would have really hammered in HOW evil he is)
4. i wish we had been able to spend more time in 12, seen snows HATRED for mockingjays spelt out clearer and spent more time with the covey and see how close they all are and how much they genuinely did trust snow
5. changing the ending of the games with everyone dying from the snakes was a little disappointing but i did laugh when the students started chanting “get her out!” (also when dr gaul said she didn’t care if there wasn’t a victor vs snow demanding there has to be a victor, which 64 years later comes to bite him in the ass was MWUH chefs kiss)
6. critiques aside, every single actor was PHENOMENAL. not a single weak or subpar performance in sight, even characters without any/much dialogue were incredible and scene stealers (shoutout to irene böhm as lamina)
7. the sets and costumes were EVERYTHING, almost everything was exactly how i pictured and if it wasn’t plucked straight from my brain it was even better than i could have imagined
8. rachel zegler and tom blyth please marry me please
9. the part where marcus comes over and tells lucy gray that she can run and get out KILLED me, oh i could just feel my heart shatter in my chest
10. OH MY GOD lucky flickerman being an absolute scene stealer, what an ICON, i laughed at everything he said
okay that’s all i can think of at this moment. overall i did love it but i do find myself being all “the book was better 🤓” but very rarely do movies come close to being as good, and as far as adaptations go i loved it and could make peace with most of their changes

Okaay but would your answer for top 5 smuttiest scenes differ for top five /love making/ scenes?🧐
Oh that’s an excellent question! I mean, my top smuttiest scenes are probably all from rare pair fics 🤣 but speaking of Drarry yes, I think some of my picks here would be the same for both smutty and lovemaking purposes - I really love the first time scenes from Far From the Tree and Waiting by an Open Door, I think they both covey the mix of hot & tender I’m looking for. I do have a soft spot for nasty sex and dirty talk though 😏 so let me include:
1. Femme is my favourite smut writer. I can’t go through them right now so here’s a shoutout to all sex scenes from Lost in Your Arms
2. Drunk sex from Born Slippy by dracoladon
3. Rough sex from Sex on Legs in Six-Inch Heels by Tessa Crowley
4. Wall sex from break the bad luck in my life by seaworn
5. Apology fuck from Phoenix in the Fire by @fw00shy
Special mention to @lazywonderlvnd - LOVE the smut in Aletheia & What’s My Age Again?

CREATOR SPOTLIGHT: Miranda (@dancingwithourshandstied)
Support your local gif makers! In celebration of my one year gif-iversary, I am posting shoutouts to gif makers who have motivated and inspired me with their creativity in the past year. This post is for Miranda, whose gifs can be found here.
Miranda is by far one of the most supportive and kind editors I know. In my time on this site, she has provided boundless encouragement, assistance, and positivity to not only myself, but to many other creators as well. She helps bring people together, and fosters a sense of community and benevolence that keeps us going as fandom creators. One night a few months ago, when I was feeling down about my giffing abilities, she replied to one of my posts with uplifting encouragement and compassion, despite the fact that we had never spoken before then; now, I am lucky enough to receive this kind of support from her every single day. Everyone needs a Miranda.
When it comes to gif making, Miranda’s strength is in her versatility. Between adapting to create for many fandoms, from musical theatre to films to sitcoms, and trying out different styles, colorings, compositions, and aspect ratios, Miranda has proven her skills time and time again.
MUST-SEE EDITS
It Chapter 2 - This recent gifset of Miranda’s stands out for its strong, unified composition and its creative framing of the film. Using no faces at all and minimal body parts, Miranda created this aesthetic set of her favorite subject to gif. The set is cleverly tied together through an emphasis on the color red, accented by soft greens throughout. Instead of relying on the characters to signify the subject, Miranda astutely included a gif of the notorious red balloon as the second image in the composition, allowing the viewer to quickly identify the film. The third gif is a bright display of rotating food, and it is skillfully juxtaposed on top of the darkest gif in the set, and this extreme contrast marks a shift in the tone of the gifset; it goes from showcasing the brighter elements of the film, like a puzzle and a good meal, to inciting feelings of danger and sorrow through images of fire and blood. This thoughtful arrangement demonstrates Miranda’s artistic eye.
Robin or Nancy - This gifset is a testament to Miranda’s playful, experimental nature when it comes to her creations. In this innovative composition, Miranda uses nine gifs on six canvases to choose and connect both options that were presented to her. This imaginative design shows both creativity and effort through the use of caption text and facial expressions to capture the essence of Robin and Nancy. The bottom right gif deserves special attention for the way both girls’ heads move in the same direction at the same pace within their split gif.
Speak Now World Tour - One of my favorite things about Miranda’s giffing style is the variation that can be observed in her levels of contrast, and how she uses this to shape the tone of a gifset. In this Taylor Swift set of the Speak Now World Tour, she combines these different levels of contrast in an impactful, next-level type of way. The dark black used in four of the gifs effectively grounds the set for the viewer and brings us deep emotion through Taylor’s expressions, and the low-contrast, muted coloring of the other four gifs is used to show action, passion, and fun. We see high-motion, changing shots offset slower, more static performances in a way that gives us a well-rounded feel for the tour and for Taylor’s personality, both onstage and off.
TATBILB - The strength of this gifset lies in its deep contrast and subtle, unifying blues. This gifset is people-focused, demonstrating Miranda’s versatile skill set and artistic sense when compared to the It Chapter 2 gifset discussed above. This gifset tells the story of Lara Jean Covey through her actions, relationships, and expressions. We see her soft smile, moody pout, and dark hair on display, and overall this gorgeous creation captures the love and care expressed throughout the film.
You Need to Calm Down - #i just wanted to... change the color of things lol. This vibrant set stands out and immediately captures the viewer’s eye due to its bright depiction of a popular music video. Among the creative artistic choices made by Miranda we have orange pool water and a very bright display of a burger hugging french fries. The strength of this set is its whimsical spirit that engages the audience immediately. Miranda’s control over colors is especially apparent in the third gif, which features bright yellows and a long, horizontal range of motion; despite the wide movement, Miranda was able to skillfully bolden the yellow hues of the gif without negatively altering the skin tones of the subjects which, if you make gifs, you know is a challenging effect to achieve. The brilliant colors of this creation truly set Miranda apart as an accomplished gif maker.
CREATOR’S TOP PICKS
Miranda has a long list of favorites: x x x x x x x x x x x
Thank you to Miranda for inspiring me over the past year! Be sure to check out all of her amazing gifsets, reblog them, and leave nice feedback!

she’d be with you 💌
lucy gray baird x fem reader
mornings spent with Lucy Gray and the Covey
supposed to be a drabble but got away from me a bit lol, so much fluff, maude ivory’s a little gem, i ❤️ the covey, hayley williams inspired as per, 1.1k words
Tumblr media
Even when you can’t find Lucy Gray, you know she won’t have gone far.
You’ll still always frown when you wake to an empty bed, though. Waking in her arms is your favourite way to start the day.
Rays of gentle light stream in through the window. Lucy Gray has arranged little crystalline trinkets on the windowsill which, when caught just right by the sun, send rainbows dancing across the room. That’s how your bedroom looks this morning as you tug on one of Lucy Gray’s blouses and pad barefoot downstairs, into the Covey’s kitchen.
Barb Azure’s sat at the round wooden table, patiently teaching Maude Ivory how to read. She’s been making progress, in fairness. These things just take time.
“Mornin’,” Barb Azure greets you, and then looks to Maude Ivory. “Y’know how to spell that?”
“M-O-R-N-I-N,” Maude Ivory answers proudly.
You laugh softly. “There’s a G on the end o’that, baby.”
“No there ain’t,” she protests, and looks to Barb Azure, who only nods. “Well why’ve you gotta add it if you ain’t even say it?”
“It’s just… there.” Barb Azure pauses. “I don’t know, s’not my language, just write it down.” Maude Ivory reluctantly obliges, grumbling.
“You seen Lu?” you ask Barb Azure, and her lips curl up into a smile.
“You are so predictable—”
“Don’t tease,” you beg, “‘s too early.”
“Alright, alright,” she laughs. “She went out at the ass crack o’dawn with her guitar, I’m guessin’ she’s down at the Meadow.”
“How’d you spell ass? There a Y in there?” Maude Ivory asks curiously.
“Not telling.” Barb Azure turns back to you. “Muffins’re fresh if you want any.”
You hum your appreciation, taking one for yourself and one for Lucy Gray, mindful of how she can forget herself when she’s making music. She gets so absorbed in her songwriting that eating will often slip her mind.
You pad down the grassy path to the Meadow, barefoot and on your tip-toes. The walk is serene, filled only by the idle chatter of Lucy Gray’s mockingjays; the snowdrops lining the route kiss your ankles as you pass them. A rabbit — no, a hare — runs fleetingly across your path, and you smile. A good omen, you know Lucy Gray would say if she was by your side. (No matter what you’re doing, your thoughts are filled with her. She’s so soft, she’s so lovely, she makes your world go round.)
When you reach the Meadow, Lucy Gray is perched on a rock, guitar in hand. She gently plucks away at it, lost in her own melodies, just as you predicted. She’s usually observant without even really trying to be, she’ll often cotton onto events in the room before you, but today she’s so far succumbed to the writing process that you take her by surprise as you approach. A pleasant surprise, you’d wager, seeing how her face breaks into a smile more precious than any jewel you can think of.
“Hi, baby,” she says, her voice still filled with the raspiness the morning brings, and it sends a pleasant little shiver down your spine. “That my blouse?”
You shrug sheepishly. “Smells of you. Woke up alone, I was missin’ you.”
“You’re so cute,” she grins lazily, patting the empty space beside her. “C’mere.”
You oblige happily, settling down next to her. You produce Barb Azure’s muffins from the folds of your skirt and offer one to her.
“Oh, thank you,” Lucy Gray’s eyes light up, “I was starving.”
“Yeah, I figured,” you grin. “What you playing?”
“Oh,” her cheeks turn ever so slightly red, in the way that they only ever do around you. “Uhm, it’s not finished, darlin’, don’t stress it.”
“No, it sounded sweet,” you protest. “Go on, Lu.”
“Well, it’s supposed to be about you,” she admits. The colour of her cheeks only grows more prominent. “Only I can’t get it right.”
“Sounded right to me,” you say gently, “sounded gorgeous, Lu.”
“Yeah, but you’re meant to say that.” Lucy Gray leans in to lovingly nudge her nose into your cheek. “You’re my girl.”
You laugh loudly at that. “Maybe, but you know I’d tell you if you brought a bad song to me. Only reason I haven’t is cause you’ve never done it yet.”
“Yet.” She glowers at you playfully. “Today’s the day, I fear.”
“Enough,” you grumble. “Just play the song, baby. It’s about me, I have a right to hear it.”
She hesitates before ultimately giving in. She can never say no to you, and she was going to play this song for you eventually, only more… polished. She picks up her guitar, slides its capo back onto the fifth fret and begins to play. The melody is gentle and plucked, sweet in a way that’s reminiscent of but not as harsh as honey; it’s a subtle nectar, soft to the ear, soothing to the soul.
There was a bird who never flew,
But she still kept all of her feathers
So she could pluck em out for you
And you could wear them in your hair, and
She’d be with you
Lucy Gray’s voice is hushed, and she trembles ever so slightly, as if the chords are hymns, as if the words are holy. When she’s finished, she looks up at you bashfully, her big brown eyes the warmest pools of love.
“‘S’all I got so far,” she says, “the other verses won’t go together right. Can’t make sense of it.”
“What are you talkin’ on, Lu,” you manage, eyes brimming with tears. “That was— you’re so—”
“Awh, baby,” she laughs, and pulls you into her arms. “You’re real sweet.”
“You’re the sweetest,” you tell her tearfully, and she kisses your forehead.
“I’m bein’ serious, though, I can never properly explain how I feel for you. Not in speech or song or anythin’. You’re the first thing in this life that’s stumped me.” Lucy Gray cradles you closer to her, littering little kisses across your hairline now.
“I think you made a good start,” you sniffle from where you’re nestled against her neck.
“Yeah, but it’s not enough. It won’t ever be enough, y’know? I don’t think there’s words for it.” She pauses. “You feel it too, right?”
“I do,” you confirm, holding her face ever so gently between your palms, “you’re so precious to me I can’t explain.”
“Exactly.” Her fingers trace gentle shapes on the skin of your shoulder. “I’ll keep tryin’ till the day I die, though.”
“Sounds like a plan to me.”
The two of you stay like that for a few minutes longer, utterly cocooned in one another, in love in a way that even bards cannot describe. And when you break apart, Lucy Gray Baird begins to thread flowers and feathers into the braids of your hair, and whispers promises that she’ll be with you forever.

oooooo i love this. i am a big fan of lana, i think she’s great and needs more acknowledgement esp since in the wake of the tatilb movie, i felt like noah cent had more of a ‘big breakout’ moment than her, y’know? like just with their insta followers, the gap is appalling, but thats another issue for another day. also…readmore below too not spam the tags lmao
off to deadly class~
i love love love the premise of deadly class. the cast is superb (benedict wong hell yes) and the action scenes are really well done imo. please do keep in mind that i have not read the graphic novels so most of my thoughts will be from the live action series (the first ep + promo material, marketing, etc.)
i love the attention being given to lana. she clearly deserves it. call it a stark difference from her role as lara jean, but seeing her with that short wild hair with tattoos and riding around a motorcycle? wrow. love it. most promo materials ive been exposed to on insta and twitter is def putting the spotlight on lana and i love it! shoutout to maria faria and luke tennie as well! i knew tumblr had a q&a with them like a couple of months ago i think.
i do wanna point out some lil nitpicky things about this show, though. like marcus is supposed to be latine (i think? even the show lampshades this one), but ben is hella whitepassing but i can’t speak too much on this end since i am not latine myself. the big thing though (and im gonna put it in a diff paragraph cause its a big thing tbh)
hollywood. stop casting lana as non-viet. i get it, it’s a big role, she’s a rising star (and well deserving!!) but saya kuroki is japanese. her being japanese is hella vital to her background because she is in the yakuza! asian are not interchangeable please stop. y’all already pulled this with tatilb with lana being casted as a half-white, half-korean girl and its just…im gonna admit, i excused that one because i am a huge fan of the series and have been by its side from the beginning to the end. i know jenny han was okay with it since the casting for the song-covey sisters were still within the asian diaspora. but i really wish that years down the line, they could start casting asian actors with ethnicities that match them.
sidenote: rpc, this is why we need to picky with using faceclaims. please make sure that the faceclaim’s ethnicity matches the character’s.
