So I've seen the name Addison three tomes today. It's looking like a sign. First, I was talking to my coworker this morning about certain generations of men with feminine names (there was a male patron with the middle name Beverly), and she said to look up Mitch McConnell's name: Addison! Hmmm OK....
I'm scrolling through my e-mails and I check one of the listing emails from my realtor. The one listing on this email was on Addison Street. I didn't even know there was an Addison Street nearby! Hmmm OK OK...
Then, I'm scrolling through FaceBook, and I come across an Amazon ad. It was for a personalized stuffed rabbit with the ear embroidered with a name: fucking ADDISON! What does this mean!?!? My brain wants to jump to it being a sign from the Universe to have a third child. Add 1 son. Right?? Maybe it could be our chance to have a boy finally. I don't know. I'm crazy. A third child is such a bad idea on so many levels. But I seriously can't ignore running into this name three times in one day. Hmmmm

Breaking my hiatus briefly to say this:
It’s really unfortunate how the “kill men” and “sterilize men” and “imprison men” discourse got turned into “men are oppressed for being men” by— well— white people, predominantly men. Because there should have been a mainstream conversation about how this rhetoric is most frequently leveraged at racially marginalized men by white men and women.
It is so, so, so transparent what these phrases really mean when they’re added to posts calling marginalized racial or ethnic groups “genetic trash.” And I’ve seen black and brown women point this out, only to be called “sex traitors” or be told they hate women and have internalized misogyny for “siding with the oppressor.” Black and brown women can’t point out “hey, arguing that men should be forcibly sterilized is eugenics and that scares me as someone who comes from a community that has been victimized by eugenics” without people coming out of the woodwork to tell them that they’re setting back feminism.
“Men should be lined up against a wall and shot.” And you think the person who’ll be targeted is your creepy uncle? Not black drag queens or Jewish doctors or immigrants? Who’s pulling the trigger? White men? Likely. They’re already trigger happy.
“Men should all be in prison as a precaution.” And you think that the prison industrial complex will target predators, who are predominately cis het white men in positions of authority— a group it notoriously fails to “hold accountable”— instead of the poor black men it currently targets? We have done little to dismantle a system that is designed to imprison black men and women for their labor.
“Men should be forced to get sterilized as a precaution against unwanted pregnancy.” And you think that the men who will be forcibly targeted are— who?— Republican politicians? Not the men who have faced forced sterilization for the furtherance of white supremacy? You think such a campaign won’t disproportionately— or even exclusively— target black and brown men? You think they won’t be targeting gay men? You think that black women agree with you? You think their biggest fear is an unwanted pregnancy rather than the fact they don’t have the privilege of safely and healthily giving birth to their wanted babies because the medical system kills black mothers?
None of y’all people treat white men in positions of authority with the same rancid energy as black and brown women who disagree with you. I see y’all out here retweeting Matt Walsh or quoting Jordan Peterson with quotes like, “thank you 🙏. so refreshing to see men who understand real women’s issues and the differences between men and women!” But the moment a black feminist breathes in criticism of a pro-ethnic cleansing post, you perfectly demonstrate why white people should not be involved in “slur reclamation” discourse.

I need a doctor who has the patience, experience, humor, and directness to listen to whatever new treatment ideas I've concocted, and then either say "Alex, that's a stupid fucking idea, let me explain why," or "The risks are acceptable in my professional opinion. Let's go over pros and cons and then you can think about it and decide what to do."
I just think it would be fun. For me. And I wish I could find a doctor who would also find that fun. I already came up with one fun Treatment for an Illness and have been successfully using it to treat The Illness for almost a YEAR, and all the side effects are awesome so like...I am certainly full of hubris at this point.
#i dont wanna say what i take or what im treating bc its like...well...zero doctors recommended it lol. and two doctors said “that might work#but uhhhhh i dont think im the right doctor for that.“ wait. three doctors said that. but i asked the third doctor ”pwease. youre the third#doctor to tell me to go to a different doctor. i need help.“ (i was fucking desperate. i was missing so many days of work that i basically#lost an entire paycheck's worth of money in two months and like. i had also SPENT that much on the doctors who inevitably ran out of their#own ideas and then recommended i go elsewwhwre to try my idea WHICH IS FAIR but also all 3 doctors did agree it was worth a shot so like....#i kinda needed ONE of them to actually. try it. it just took 6 months for the first one to run out of ideas and then another two or three#months to get in to see my genderal physician and then see a doctor he recommended who then recommended i go elsewhere and thats the doctor#who i was like “youre the third doctor to say that...i dont know who else to try.” goodness im glad she helped. my medicine is like $15 a#month (it was $10 when i had insurance) and i am in love with every single “side effect” and!!!! yea it has given me a large sum of hubris.#anyways.) i wanna do that again but with my other Significantly Disabling Illness. like why not lol. im already on 3 medicines that are#recommended to *not* take together (none of which are the medicine i chose to take aldjskds) so like.............seems like we#are at a “just try shit out and see what happens” stage. doctors should send me resumes and ill pick the one that looks most fun and then#we will do fun science together on my nerves system :) itll be fine lol. am i serious or kidding? i have no idea.#sorenhoots

just had the experience of succesfully sounding out แว่นกันแดด in my head, recognizing those sounds ("waen kan daet") as something i'd seen in transliterated script, confidently going "zonnebril!", and then seeing it translated as sunglasses and going wait?? that was wrong?? for a whole two seconds before remembering that no, those words actually do all fit into the same mold, i was just pouring a different language into it by accident
#i made a pancakes-for-dinner sort of sunglasses when they should have been pancakes-for-breakfast sunglasses#is there a paper somewhere on third or fourth language acquisition through a second language? i bet there is. there should be#anyway. there is this (anecdotal? but i assume widely shared) phenomenon i've been thinking about a lot#in which a person hears (or says or thinks) some words. two seconds pass. they can't remember what language the words were in#you remember the content just fine! but the way it got to your brain? who knows#happened to my mother recently when we watched a dutch movie and afterwards she recalled it as 90 minutes of english#because there was a gun in it. which felt american to her#happened to ME recently too in fact. when i had to think hard after being told the boy and the heron had english subtitles in our theater#as we were walking out of the theater!! and the only way i got to a place of going hey yeah! was by remembering a moment#while watching the movie. of consciously going 'huh they chose to translate some of this japanese as 'ain't'. interesting'#and ain't ain't dutch!! definitive proof they DID show that japanese movie with english subtitles in our dutch theater!!#this wall of tags isn't (ain't) going anywhere except. i think the zonnebril confusion is a version of this happening but maybe. like.#with a faint zonnebril echo still in my brain. sunglasses sounds different but for a moment there i didn't realize that's not because#it's a different concept. but because i had pulled the wrong language string attached to this one concept. or something#*#you know what sometimes i kid myself into thinking i don't think about language much more than the average person#but then i look at myself and my half-remembered linguistics degree and every hobby i've ever had and i go hm. hmmmm

I actually seriously considered saying 2100° (2x01 of Lone Star) but I ended up finding one I like even more and that's 9-1-1, what's your grievance? (4x04 of 9-1-1)
and this is my favourite for so many reasons. the main one being- it's when the Buckley parents first show up.
that and the fact that it is the horrible end to a truly horrible week.
but yeah, it's my favourite for him because I just get to unpack the whole complicated mess that is the Buckley family, and it really gets into some of his problems with Buck.
which for me is just. fun.

*head in hands* i straight up do not know how kindergarten teachers accomplish anything
#picking up that shift today has solidified my opinion of 'i can't rlly work w/kids younger than third grade'#thank god i was just filling in for the day. holy fuck. i got a fuck ton of candy tho so that makes up for it#little kids are people too!! absolutely 100%!!!! but holy shit i cannot do that every day i would go insane#they're also hard to work with bc some kids just patently do not listen. also i don't know how to talk to them#they lack understanding of too many concepts i rely on when talking to teenagers/other adults n also just don't know many words#it's not their fault or anything but i'm Really not that interested in like. dealing with them.#also i think i should get like. earplugs for kids one of these days. a lot of Problem Kids get rlly upset when it's rlly loud#honestly disciplining kids w/o traumatizing them is hard; but at the same time they need to learn that like#society is a communal space. if they have to behave in a way that makes for a healthy community#that means sharing! asking before borrowing things! respecting people's boundaries! being considerate of others when acting!!#listening to experts when they tell you to do things a certain way!! safety rules were written in blood etc etc#the worm speaks#and that means that if you touch the beans when we tell you not to touch the beans... you don't get to play the game we set up!!!
