Random ramble incoming. It's definitely an interesting experience as an aroace person to write a character to whom sex and intimacy is a really big deal.

That's an aspect of Grimm (and Vyrm but to a lesser extent) I don't talk about a lot here, but it's such an interesting part of his character in the AU. To him, that subject is an art form by itself, one that he finds not only extremely enjoyable but also fascinating. Something so primitive and, admittedly, fairly nasty in nature, in his mind is the ultimate manifestation of a deep bond between individuals, one that he feels the other gods often don't understand. Unlike those higher beings, he didn't sleep with mortals to assert some kind of dominance, to flaunt his power over them; he believed that putting himself in an equally vulnerable spot as them was the key. What other gods often found demeaning and beneath them, to him became one of his favorite ways to experience that intimacy.

And I love the inner conflict he experienced for most of his life, where he really craved that deep connection but was too afraid to get attached to anyone. So in all of his experiences, he couldn't shake off the feeling that something was always missing. Sex also became a very unhealthy coping mechanism for him during the period Vyrm was missing, where Grimm was on a verge of a breakdown himself. Instead of getting much enjoyment out of it like before, he used it to briefly forget about his pain, almost as if it was some kind of drug. I like to imagine he still occasionally struggles with it, that at low points he may subconsciously seek Vyrm's closeness, before realizing he needs to find a healthier way to cope, one that doesn't paint the love of his life as a drug he reaches for when he feels terrible. Vyrm can help him, but it shouldn't be through sex.

I also find it kind of sweet that with Vyrm he was not only finally able to achieve that complete experience he wanted, but also help Vyrm overcome his own struggles. His body image issues, his strange assumption that lust is bad and pleasure is something he's not worthy of (to the point it sometimes manifested as something almost resembling religious guilt), and just his general lack of experience. It's such a nice contrast where Vyrm allowed Grimm to see and learn how to love someone in non-sexual way, and in return, Grimm helped him overcome his own fears and trauma in those intimate aspects. They can be a bit much when it comes to being overly affectionate, but I think with that context in mind you can't really blame them.

It's a bit random, I realize that. But from an aroace position it's been really interesting to step out of that comfort zone and approach this aspect of the characters from an angle I think is very compelling once you put it together. Ignoring it would be something I'd likely do a few years ago, the topic is one that can very easily change from interesting to uncomfortable for me, especially with how oversexualized everything is sometimes. But I suppose exploring the sexuality of Grimm and Vyrm was a way for me to remind myself that those aspects can make a character very compelling, even if I personally have no interest in those things myself. And hey, maybe someone in a similar position to me will also appreciate it.
