Maybe this is a hot take but I find it funny how in fandom spaces, people will be so fixated on gay representation (especially in media that is not necessarily about that) that they will accidentally pivot to full on misogyny towards existing female characters.

Like, they’ll unintentionally utilize tactics used by men throughout history to downplay, minimize, and/or outright erase women’s roles in major events or their relations/significance to other characters. Either by giving the credit to the men or just quietly leaving out the parts where the women were involved.

Or if the women are kept in, they’re there to be mischaracterized and villainized and then people who know the media exclusively from the fandom just proceed to think that’s what the character is actually like.

Ultimately harmless and not aimed at any specific fandom in particular (because it is a widespread trend) but I just find it funny and hope that one day we’ll be able to find a balance between wanting gay representation without erasing or villainizing women.
