hi guys! just letting you know in response to being notified about an uptick of hate and negativity in the epic fandom (mostly on tiktok) , Ryan Donaldson, the main business strategist of the EPIC team, has issued a statement essentially saying its the creator's fault that they experience so much hate because they drive the algorithm to give them more hate comments by responding to it.

Nowhere in the video does he say that he doesn't condone this sort of behavior, which is weird considering that he was a large contributor in creating and curating the fandom. He repeatedly pushes the idea of 'banning and moving on,' saying that Stories from Styx experiences more hate because Casper responds to hateful comments and implies that he may have hired "abusive collaborators" (whatever that means). Nowhere does he talk about the role of the audience in defining the behavior of a fandom space. After this, Ryan proceeds to plug epic by talking about how positive everyone involved in the project is . Generally a dogshit response

I saw your post about wanting to ramble about the Odyssey and any questions we could ask. I'd like to know what versions there are and where to read them? I'd love to dive into more greek mythology, but i don't know where's a good place to start.

Basically, just recommendations and a summary as to how each version is different, if it's not too much to ask! Anyway I hope you have a wonderful day.

i don't think i'll be that helpful cuz i'm much better at character and plot talk but, i'll try!

i think there's like 60 english translations but, don't quote me on that. i can only speak on the ones i have read and it's heavily based on personal preferences lol.

i think lattimore's is considered the most accurate translation from greek. i don't have much to say on this one. it's alr. i don't have much to say on it but, i don't think it's the best one to read if you're focused on story? i don't know how to put it.

fagles' version is really good it's been a while since i read it tho. there's some nice descriptions. it's been a while since i read this one so, i don't have much to say but, i did enjoy it more than lattimore's. it's also considered the best by a lot of people so, that's something.

the first ever translation i read was rieu's and i really like it. it's dramatic enough and i enjoy the dialogue in it quite a bit. i really enjoy the characterisation in this. i like the characters in all of them but, idk this one just hits different.

it's probably just cuz it was my intro to the odyssey lol

emily wilson's translation is widely recognised as the translation that avoids unneeded filler and tells the story going straight to the point. it also is best for a modern audience to get into i think? it sets up ody as a 'complicated' man from the get-go. (all of them do that but, it's a key characteristic of this one.)

i think if you only know the story from epic the musical, this is the one to start with to get to know what's going on.

i have a soft spot for her translation. one of these reasons cuz she emphasises that odysseus is naked while slaying the suitors. most others just say 'he stripped his rags' but, wilson says he's naked as well and i really respect that. and i'm not saying this to be funny, i actually think him being naked during this scene is really interesting and for his character and story but, that's a whole other thing

I’m joining the Aeolus x Enarete cult. However niche it may be as of now.

Designs are loosely based off of bambiilooza’s art, so go check them out if you haven’t already!

For those of you who don’t know, Enarete is Aeolus’ wife in the myths. Since Aeolus is (maybe?) a lady in Epic, there’s ripe potential for a sapphic ship here. Although I’m well aware that Aeolus is a guy in the Odyssey lol.

Enarete’s skirt is loosely based on Mycenaean dresses from the Bronze Age.

Aeolus’ tattoos were inspired by Jinx’s tattoos from Arcane.

Possible ship name: Enarete?

I headcanon that Hermes comes over every once in a while and the three of them play board games and get into some wacky hijinks together. Would make a good sitcom.
