Okay I'm suddenly having Farangis brainrot and consequently have like, a bucketload of questions. Hear me out.
Was Farangis native to Khuzestan? Was she born elsewhere, sent to a temple from that region, only to be transferred to the temple in Khuzestan or was she from Khuzestan to begin with? I realize this is somewhat of a stupid line of question but whatever! My brain can't help it! I wonder how young she was when her parents died and she was sent to the temple, fairly young? 8-9-ish? Even younger? In her teens? I'm just now pondering in amusement how she ended up on the opposite end of Pars from her homeland— southwest to northeast. Also I planned to have her join the clan around the same time Ranna does: aka when she's about like, 13 and they 7 or so, and have them bond with each other as they get accustomed to their new home, but maybe I should move it up a little, but gah I've gotten so fond of the idea!
I'm not sure there are confirmed answers to many of these questions but let's have look at what the novels say! (These are exactly the sorts of things I wonder about too, so I'm more than happy to look into them.)
I don't recall seeing any direct reference to where Farangis was born. It could have been in the region of Khuzestan, or it could simply be that the cultural importance of the temple at the time was what led to her being sent there. It does seem that she was sent there to be raised immediately after her mother's death, though (her father died earlier, leaving her mother more or less a fortune, half of which her mother instructed to be donated to the temple after her death, while the other half was left for Farangis herself). Her mother asked that the temple support her daughter, presumably because there were no other relatives capable of providing for her, or perhaps because she saw being raised in the temple and becoming a priestess as the choice that provided the best future for her daughter.
The temple of Mithra in Khuzestan was built as a donation to mark the birth of Prince Arslan (ordered by Andragoras himself). Arslan was born in 306, at which time Farangis was around 8. So that's the youngest she could have been when she was sent there, and I do tend to think it was likely to be around that age that her life at the temple began.
This seems like a good place to talk about Khuzestan itself, since I mentioned that geographically it doesn't match up with the real life location. It is an area located east of Ecbatana, west of Peshawar Fortress and just north of the Nimruz Mountains. (That's not super specific, but the comment about the Nimruz range helps the most, especially because that's included on the map from the guide that covers up to Book 10)
(annotated map courtesy of the first fan translation)
As well as being just slightly above just above the Nimruz mountains, if Khuzestan is more or less mid-way between Ecbatana and Peshawar that would make it very close to Soleimaniye's location on the Continental Road.
The Chinese version describes Khuzestan as a 'small town' (小镇) but when checking the Japanese the novel is actually talking about the Khuzestan region (地方) which makes more sense.
Now for a little cypress diversion; we were talking about cypresses being planted around temples in ancient Iran, and although I didn't see a mention of it for the temple of Mithra in Khuzestan, the temple of Ashi in the Oxus region is surrounded by them, so that appears to be a thing in Parsian culture too. (Although this is a female-only temple dedicated to a different god, there's a little more detail of temple life in that section which probably applies to other temples like the one in Khuzestan too, so it's a good section to look at for inspiration for that.)
And also, since I may as well add it to this post after I think I forgot to mention it in comments yesterday, concerning the novel's use of the term magpat for a Parsian high priest, it hasn't come up in manga canon presumably because the time it crops up in the novels is when one of these high-ranking priests betrays Tahamenay's location to Hilmes, when in the manga Arakawa changed it to Husrab. In looking at that scene in the novels again I did see Tanaka gave us a brief description of what that priest was wearing; robes of 'gaudy gold and purple'.
Anyway, I think your proposed timeline for Farangis meeting Ranna in your AU would work! Perhaps the jinn told her to travel that way?

How do you wish Fabio styled his outfits
hi anon! sorry for the delay 😅 I really love this question! I'd like to start by saying that he has a lot of nice outfits that I liked, not everything is bad & that he's a professional athlete, not a model/stylist/fashion influencer. he has fun with his clothes, which is the most important thing ☺️
that being said, when I said he's not styling his clothes, especially his summer outfits, it's because he often wears them like they are displayed and isn't really adding anything. for example, I love when he's wearing jewelry, it makes it more interesting. he sometimes makes some questionable associations and bought questionable pieces of clothing 😅 (and did fashion crimes but that's hiw you learn)
his main issues for me are proportions (especially for summer outfits and shorts because I'm a Fabio-looking-fluffy-in-oversized-hoodies absolute lover, I could do an entire post) and his lack of 'global vision': he doesn't wear them to look 'stylish' but not to be totally naked — which is more than valid! also, sometimes the pieces by themselves are nice but they don't work together because the colors/fabrics/vibes don't match.
so to go next level, there are a few things he could do:
his issue with proportion is obvious on these outfits:
-> for the first 2 (not really his fault, it's on D&G): this is exactly how they were on the website, the shirts are either too short or too long and way too big and oversized, making them shapeless.
-> the shorts are too oversized, the shoes are a bit out of place + the fabric really doesn't help
-> for the one on the right, the t-shirt is fine and would look good with jeans, but these shorts aren't it, they should be smaller (tighter and shorter too imo)
I used by beloved boon.vivant_ on instagram as illustration, check his account he's amazing
these are styled outfits with shorts and good proportions and fabrics:
shorts (no matter the length or if they're wide or not) are fun to style as long as you use proportions:
-> hips length for the shirt/jacket is the longest it should be or like on the 4th one, longer shirt/jacket over small shorts.
-> the right shoes because they're part of the look. on these 4 outfits, they bring something: reinforce the vibe he created and/or color
-> socks, they are really important because they're the link between the short and shoes. [you can check Zhou Guanyu's outfit for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix last year, funny socks made the outfit so much better]
-> the bags and accessories add something too, it makes the outfit look complete. each time, the bag choice fits the vibe. this is why I love Fabio's jewelry, it always make everything look nicer.
-> and the choice of colors is really important, they need to work together. on the 3rd one, the collar detail and its color are super important. some outfits with flash colors can look really good, but in general, it's better to turn it down a little with neutrals because it makes the flash color pop even more.
these outfits have a vibe, a global vision, this is what I think would elevate his outfits.
the shirts can also be worn in so many fun and different ways and make it really interesting because you go beyond the designer's choice to sell his clothes:
(I used Eric McNeal's work on my love Lewis Hamilton as reference)
-> only mid buttons closed and an open collar (perfect to display jewelry) and it's flowing on the hips - it's useful to not have a line between the top and bottom, makes it look more 'blended'
-> only the first one closed, full belly on display, it's a fun way to wear a basic shirt (or here jacket)
-> it's a jacket as well but I find it really clever, to not have a basic button jacket, he closed only one and made it asymmetrical, it creates a nice shape and makes it really interesting
-> or just opening more buttons on a shirt than usual (one issue with his oversized shirts is that they look really 'big' so opening more buttons or tucking it would look better I think)
my issue with his matching set is that worn that way, it's usually monotonous. many things can be done to make it more interesting (and wearing it more than once)
-> using different fabrics (here maybe cotton/synthetic fabric for the turtleneck with leather shorts), the black really make the orange pop, love the bag too and the half tucked in turtleneck makes the outfit work
-> using mismatched set [Lewis Hamilton last year]
-> from a printed set, using only the shirt (or shorts) here I love that it's tucked inside a tailored white trousers (would work with tailored shorts too or with more Fabio coded shorts). the accessories are on point too, I love the oversized pearl necklace (here the short is white, but it can work with a lot of pastels colors, complementary to the shirt/shorts colors)
-> or using the printed shirt as an over shirt
another issue on the first 2 outfits: the fabrics and shapes
-> the trousers/track pants don't work with the first 2 sweaters. the 2 sweaters are nice but it looks weird with the track pants because the shape (tight on the ankles) and fabrics don't match (it's some kind of shinny synthetic fabric with a fleece hoodie for the first one 🤔)
-> round collars can be a little bit tricky because they're sometimes a bit boring. for the first one (on the left), it would look better with a shirt underneath for example with jeans and putting the hem of the jumper over the hem of the jeans to make it more baggy/loose (this is also true for his second one)
-> in my opinion, the elasticated hem works here for Jules Koundé because the shapes and fabric match
I like these outfits:
(from top left to right and again bottom left to right)
-> this set works because the fabric is nice, the pattern too and the shapes are nicely done: it's not too oversized and shapeless
-> the next three oversized ones work nicely because the hoodie and pants match - the colors on the last one work as well as the elasticated hem here + it's appropriate for a day on track
-> the 2 stripped hoodies are basic but it works - the one on the left more oversized and the other, I like the halft tucked in sweater
-> we can't see the shoes for the full denim one, but it works
-> he did a good job styling this shirt, this bag is dreamy and the trousers seem to match it
-> tmi but this brand, Cruel Pancake, was founded by Hugo Philip (actor/influencer and Caroline Receveur's husband). he is also working with Clarisse Castan (Ginger and Limón founder, [communication/celebrity management agency]) as well as Pierre Gasly (also working with Clarisse) who also did an ad for them a few days ago. I'm really curious to see the next 'collaboration' Fabio will do in the future 😊
in a way, I think that his style is "close" to Achraf Hakimi's but he styles his clothes better
-> especially the choice of the trousers: to me Achraf style them properly so they look nice, Fabio tends to put a lot of patterns together so it ends up being too much. of they have a special pattern or texture, he wears them with basics, so the focus is still on them
-> there are a few brands they both love to wear
-> the printed shirts
and last but not least: I absolutely love his watch collection and his jewels. he really has a good taste for watches
(it was really long I'm sorry 😅 there is a lot more to say but I think that's a good start 😅)

Personally, it looks a little something like this!
Do a quick beginning-middle-end summary, just what I generally want to happen in the story. This is so the general idea is written down somewhere and I can refer back to it at any time. You can always add more details later!
Define the exact story beats better. Figure out if the argument should happen before or after they buy the couch, make sure the timeline is in the right order, all that jazz. None of it has to be super detailed, just layout enough so you can confidently know where you're going with this.
Elaborate upon the first length of the story/first couple of chapters. Don't go too far with this, because in my experience once you start writing the chapters and get acquainted with the character, exact ideas and side plots can change fast.
Once I get close to finishing the actual first draft of those first chapters, I go back and elaborate upon what will happen next (basically just repeating the past step) If you ever feel lost or like the story is getting off track, go back to that first summary you did!
And eventually, you get to the end! Congratulations :D
since I asked the pantsers, it seems only fair I consult the plotters:
Plotters— writers who create outlines end other forms of prep before they begin drafting— what does your drafting and editing process look like? What are your best tips and tricks?
#i say as if ive ever actually finished writing a book#or even a long fic lmao#but hey who knows#maybe this will at least inspire someone else :p#writeblr#fanfiction

My Eddie Munson Ref Post
Eddie’s tattoos~ the artists did an awesome job with these! I really appreciate small details like these; most aren’t ever fully visible in show, but they add a lot of character depth. Originals were posted on Amy L Forsythe’s instagram account, I just sketched the little placement maps.
The rings on his left were easy to find via Google, they're likely G&S Jewelry. Those models have been made and sold for a long time and this style is still popular in metal and biker aesthetics. For cosplayers there's obviously cheaper options on Etsy and such, or if you're super crafty you can make your own, but I thought these were great close-ups for detail. The ring on his right hand is more obscure; I was able to find a handful of lookalikes, but not with the same stone, or more inlaid stone work…? If anyone else digs deeper and finds out more about it, leave me info and I’ll edit the post 🙂 But as it is, simple observance and good close-up shots make great refs.
The button style pins on the jacket are easy to find, plenty of independent artists remake these on Etsy if you can’t find officially licensed ones. W.A.S.P. ‘s metal pin may only be available/easier to find through officially licensed sellers, just ‘cause ya know, metal pins are a little harder to make than button pins. But! All bands are still currently active, so that also makes things easier for those looking to actually buy 🙂
These pages may seem a little redundant, but I wanted to include actual shots for placement notes and good clear individual shots of the patches for drawing reference ; a lot of the scenes are dark, people are moving around, etc. and a few of the patches are on the sides of the jacket, they’re not fully visible a majority of the time anyway. Most of these can be found pretty quickly and easily on the internet, like the pins. Even the Dio shirt should still be easy enough to obtain for a cosplayer, although a special vintage shirt was donated to the team for wardrobe. Iron Maiden and Megadeth are still active, Dio and Motörhead are not, though.
So, here we have a nice little collective post! Hope this helps some other artists/cosplayers/fans and saves you some time digging on your own. This was a lot of fun to do!

What Does Our "Motivations” PSA Mean?
@luminalalumini said:
I've been on your blog a lot and it has a lot of really insightful information, but I notice a theme with some of your answers where you ask the writer reaching out what their 'motivation for making a character a certain [race/religion/ethnicity/nationality] is' and it's discouraging to see, because it seems like you're automatically assigning the writer some sort of ulterior motive that must be sniffed out and identified before the writer can get any tips or guidance for their question. Can't the 'motive' simply be having/wanting to have diversity in one's work? Must there be an 'ulterior motive'? I can understand that there's a lot of stigma and stereotypes and bad influence that might lead to someone trynna add marginalized groups into their stories for wrong reasons, but people that have those bad intentions certainly won't be asking for advice on how to write good representation in the first place. Idk its just been something that seemed really discouraging to me to reach out myself, knowing i'll automatically be assigned ulterior motives that i don't have and will probably have to justify why i want to add diversity to my story as if i'm comitting some sort of crime. I don't expect you guys to change your blog or respond to this or even care all that much, I'm probably just ranting into a void. I'm just curious if theres any reason to this that I haven't realized exists I suppose. I don't want y'all to take this the wrong way because I do actually love and enjoy your blog's advice in spite of my dumb griping. Cheers :))
We assume this is in reference to the following PSA:
PSA to all of our users - Motivation Matters: This lack of clarity w/r to intent has been a general issue with many recent questions. Please remember that if you don’t explain your motivations and what you intend to communicate to your audience with your plot choices, character attributes, world-building etc., we cannot effectively advise you beyond the information you provide. We Are Not Mind Readers. If, when drafting these questions, you realize you can’t explain your motivations, that is likely a hint that you need to think more on the rationales for your narrative decisions. My recommendation is to read our archives and articles on similar topics for inspiration while you think. I will be attaching this PSA to all asks with similar issues until the volume of such questions declines.
We have answered this in three parts.
1. Of Paved Roads and Good Intentions
Allow me to give you a personal story, in solidarity towards your feelings:
When I began writing in South Asia as an outsider, specifically in the Kashmir and Lahore areas, I was doing it out of respect for the cultures I had grown up around. I did kathak dance, I grew up on immigrant-cooked North Indian food, my babysitters were Indian. I loved Mughal society, and every detail of learning about it just made me want more. The minute you told me fantasy could be outside of Europe, I hopped into the Mughal world with two feet. I was 13. I am now 28.
And had you asked me, as a teenager, what my motives were in giving my characters’ love interests blue or green eyes, one of them blond hair, my MC having red-tinted brown hair that was very emphasized, and a whole bunch of paler skinned people, I would have told you my motives were “to represent the diversity of the region.”
I’m sure readers of the blog will spot the really, really toxic and colourist tropes present in my choices. If you’re new here, then the summary is: giving brown people “unique” coloured eyes and hair that lines up with Eurocentric beauty standards is an orientalist trope that needs to be interrogated in your writing. And favouring pale skinned people is colourist, full stop.
Did that make me a bad person with super sneaky ulterior motives who wanted to write bad representation? No.
It made me an ignorant kid from the mostly-white suburbs who grew up with media that said brown people had to “look unique” (read: look as European as possible) to be considered valuable.
And this is where it is important to remember that motives can be pure as you want, but you were still taught all of the terrible stuff that is present in society. Which means you’re going to perpetuate it unless you stop and actually question what is under your conscious motive, and work to unlearn it. Work that will never be complete.
I know it sounds scary and judgemental (and it’s one of the reasons we allow people to ask to be anonymous, for people who are afraid). Honestly, I would’ve reacted much the same as a younger writer, had you told me I was perpetuating bad things. I was trying to do good and my motives were pure, after all! But after a few years, I realized that I had fallen short, and I had a lot more to learn in order for my motives to match my impact. Part of our job at WWC is to attempt to close that gap.
We aren’t giving judgement, when we ask questions about why you want to do certain things. We are asking you to look at the structural underpinnings of your mind and question why those traits felt natural together, and, more specifically, why those traits felt natural to give to a protagonist or other major character.
I still have blond, blue-eyed characters with sandy coloured skin. I still have green-eyed characters. Because teenage me was right, that is part of the region. But by interrogating my motive, I was able to devalue those traits within the narrative, and I stopped making those traits shorthand for “this is the person you should root for.”
It opened up room for me to be messier with my characters of colour, even the ones who my teenage self would have deemed “extra special.” Because the European-associated traits (pale hair, not-brown-eyes) stopped being special. After years of questioning, they started lining up with my motive of just being part of the diversity of the region.
Motive is important, both in the conscious and the subconscious. It’s not a judgement and it’s not assumed to be evil. It’s simply assumed to be unquestioned, so we ask that you question it and really examine your own biases.
~Mod Lesya
2. Motivations Aren't Always "Ulterior"
You can have a positive motivation or a neutral one or a negative one. Just wanting to have diversity only means your characters aren't all white and straight and cis and able-bodied -- it doesn't explain why you decided to make this specific character specifically bi and specifically Jewish (it me). Yes, sometimes it might be completely random! But it also might be "well, my crush is Costa Rican, so I gave the love interest the same background", or "I set it in X City where the predominant marginalized ethnicity is Y, so they are Y". Neither of these count as ulterior motives. But let's say for a second that you did accidentally catch yourself doing an "ulterior." Isn't that the point of the blog, to help you find those spots and clean them up?
Try thinking of it as “finding things that need adjusting” rather than “things that are bad” and it might get less scary to realize that we all do them, subconsciously. Representation that could use some work is often the product of subconscious bias, not deliberate misrepresentation, so there's every possibility that someone who wants to improve and do better didn't do it perfectly the first time.
--Shira
3. Dress-Making as a Metaphor
I want to echo Lesya’s sentiments here but also provide a more logistical perspective. If you check the rubber stamp guide here and the “Motivation matters” PSA above, you’ll notice that concerns with respect to asker motivation are for the purposes of providing the most relevant answer possible.
It is a lot like if someone walks into a dressmaker’s shop and asks for a blue dress/ suit (Back when getting custom-made clothes was more of a thing) . The seamstress/ tailor is likely to ask a wide variety of questions:
What material do you want the outfit to be made of?
Where do you plan to wear it?
What do you want to highlight?
How do you want to feel when you wear it?
Let’s say our theoretical customer is in England during the 1920s. A tartan walking dress/ flannel suit for the winter is not the same as a periwinkle, beaded, organza ensemble/ navy pinstripe for formal dress in the summer. When we ask for motivations, we are often asking for exactly that: the specific reasons for your inquiry so we may pinpoint the most pertinent information.
The consistent problem for many of the askers who receive the PSA is they haven’t even done the level of research necessary to know what they want to ask of us. It would be like if our English customer in the 1920s responded, “IDK, some kind of blue thing.” Even worse, WWC doesn’t have the luxury of the back-and-forth between a dressmaker and their clientele. If our asker doesn’t communicate all the information they need in mind at the time of submission, we can only say, “Well, I’m not sure if this is right, but here’s something. I hope it works, but if you had told us more, we could have done a more thorough job.”
Answering questions without context is hard, and asking for motivations, by which I mean the narratives, themes, character arcs and other literary devices that you are looking to incorporate, is the best way for us to help you, while also helping you to determine if your understanding of the problem will benefit from outside input. Because these asks are published with the goal of helping individuals with similar questions, the PSA also serves to prompt other users.
I note that asking questions is a skill, and we all start by asking the most basic questions (Not stupid questions, because to quote a dear professor, “There are no stupid questions.”). Unfortunately, WWC is not suited for the most basic questions. To this effect, we have a very helpful FAQ and archive as a starting point. Once you have used our website to answer the more basic questions, you are more ready to approach writing with diversity and decide when we can actually be of service. This is why we are so adamant that people read the FAQ. Yes, it helps us, but it also is there to save you time and spare you the ambiguity of not even knowing where to start.
The anxiety in your ask conveys to me a fear of being judged for asking questions. That fear is not something we can help you with, other than to wholeheartedly reassure you that we do not spend our unpaid, free time answering these questions in order to assume motives we can’t confirm or sit in judgment of our users who, as you say, are just trying to do better.
Yes, I am often frustrated when an asker’s question makes it clear they haven’t read the FAQ or archives. I’ve also been upset when uncivil commenters have indicated that my efforts and contributions are not worth their consideration. However, even the most tactless question has never made me think, “Ooh this person is such a naughty racist. Let me laugh at them for being a naughty racist. Let me shame them for being a naughty racist. Mwahaha.”
What kind of sad person has time for that?*
Racism is structural. It takes time to unlearn, especially if you’re in an environment that doesn’t facilitate that process to begin with. Our first priority is to help while also preserving our own boundaries and well-being. Though I am well aware of the levels of toxic gas-lighting and virtue signaling that can be found in various corners of online writing communities in the name of “progressivism*”, WWC is not that kind of space. This space is for discussions held in good faith: for us to understand each other better, rather than for one of us to “win” and another to “lose.”
Just as we have good faith that you are doing your best, we ask that you have faith that we are trying to do our best by you and the BIPOC communities we represent.
- Marika.
*If you are in any writing or social media circles that feed these anxieties or demonstrate these behaviors, I advise you to curtail your time with them and focus on your own growth. You will find, over time, that it is easier to think clearly when you are worrying less about trying to appease people who set the bar of approval so high just for the enjoyment of watching you jump. “Internet hygiene”, as I like to call it, begins with you and the boundaries you set with those you interact with online.

Thought process and easter egg on the Digimon Anniversary Illustration!
Hello everyone, today I feel like explaining some stuff over my Digimon Illustration, mostly why I drew thing this way or point out some little details and easter eggs you might have missed. ;)
Click on read more if you want a LENGTHLY explanation with a lot of rambling from me, or if not you can just enjoy the process gif. <3
The Digimon illustration was a special one for me for different reasons. Firstly, obviously, Digimon! It was a show I grew up with, and I find it quite fitting that after a tough year of graduation movie under a pandemic, in which I really experienced the pain of growing up, I ended up finding back Digimon.
Secondly, as a child, I remember spending HOURS looking for fanarts online! I would save all the ones I found pretty and keep them preciously, i still have the folders actually haha. While pursuing art, I always had in mind thatI wanted one day to make a fanart my child self would have gone crazy over! And, i think I achieved that with that one haha.
Anyway LET’S START! Shall we?
First off : the illustration process
When I do an illustration I always do a quick draft first, and most of the time, in colors. I think I’m more of a “color” person than a “line” person, I tend to need to see colors quickly in order to see if it’s ok.
For this one, I’ve always had in mind it would be a double illustration, with the older Tai’s silhouette acting as a frame for the children illustration. It was a bit tricky, I had to make the children illustration fit nicely into his silhouette, it was hassle around the neck area, that’s why I made little Taichi stand up haha. Also used Mimi’s hat to balance the picture : the bottom part is very heavy and there’s only sky in the upper part, adding the hat helps making it more balanced.
The character were the longest and the most challenging part by far. As you can see I had 3 different steps : super rough, they’re almost like stickmen and smiley face, a more detailled one in which I figure out their actual pose and anatomy, then a last one in which I fix some proportion, add details and clean. Fun fact I don’t clean over a new layer... i just erase the unwanted part of my sketch. :’D
I did a quick pass over the BG after that, then I colored the characters in flat colors before rendering them. It was a back and forth between the BG and the characters to make sure everything was working together nicely.
Now was the time to render the BG, I did the tramway first, the flower field after. Fun fact, I did my flower field study in order to know how to approach the flowers in this illustration! If your have the time, i totally recommend finding a photograph close to the kind of BG you wanna do, and make a study of it so you can try your hand at it first and go into your own BG later with an idea of how to approach this.
Adjust colors, add flower petals and butterflies and emotional text, slap over a paper texture, and THERE. You have it! On to the next part now...
The meaningful details and easter eggs
Be aware there will be spoilers for Digimon Adventure 01 (but I assume you already know it), but also for Digimon Adventure : Last evolution Kizuna, which is the conclusion of the first serie. So read at your own risk!
The tramway is obviously a reference to the end of Digimon Adventure 01. The kids used it to go back to their world, so It was their goodbye to their Digimon at this moment. In Kizuna, Tai and Matt find the tramway trapped in crystal in Menoa’s fake memory world. Hinting that had they been caught by her, their memories would have brought them back here.
Tailmon has Kari’s whistle! At the end of Digimon Adventure 01, Kari gives it to her as a memento.
When I drew Sora, I had in mind how she was in Kizuna, very stressed out by her mom’s expectation, which led her to neglect Piyomon. She realized it too late, and after that she refused to fight because she wanted to keep Piyomon with her as long as possible. Tragically, she was the first one to lose her Digimon. Here I tried to convey a softness and a kind of “I won’t forget to appreciate you” vibe in the way she holds Piyomon’s hand. As for Mimi and Palmon, in Digimon adventure 01 Palmon was very emotionally affected by Mimi’s departure, so, a hug was fitting. :’)
The screens on the Tramway display DA for Digimon Adventure, and also 01.08.1999 which is the date of the children’s journey’s beginning. :)
The little drawings also show the 8 crests.
There are butterflies flying over the illustration, it’s a reference to Butter-fly, the first Digimon opening, by the late Koji Wada.
"I'll become a happy butterfly, and ride on the glittering wind, I'll come and see you soon. “
Now, let’s the see the counterpart of the illustration. The one with the grown up Tai from Kizuna.
I made him wear the hoodie he had in his very last adventure with Agumon.... but truthfully the reason is that I think hoodies are cool lol. And the hood’s volume gave me more space in the silhouette, which made it easier for me to do the other illustration inside.
You don’t see it clearly, but he is holding his Digivice, albeit the darkened version once his partner bond with Agumon is broken. The Tai in this illustration has already lost Agumon. (Yes it was painful for me to go fetch the screenshots)
He is also holding his dear signature google he used to wear as a child. Fun fact, I rewatched the older movies, and as a kid he even used to sleep with it, how cute haha.
Also yes, the crest of Courage over his hand, which is his own. I’m so dumb I realize I should have made the time counter from the movie instead of the crest for a maximum emotional hurt impact.
And the quote is from one of the trailer for Kizuna, I think.....................
But then you go : Oh that illustration is so depressing then! Well. Yes. But no. but yes. But not really.
One of my favorite shot of the movie is this one : this is after Tai and Agumon learn their time together is limited. Agumon asks him if they will have to go separate ways once Tai is all grown up. Tai doesn’t answer, and takes him to eat something instead, as Agumon was hungry. In this shot Agumon eats to his heart content next to Tai, who’s not eating at all and just watches him fondly. I love that the framing doesnt show agumon. It’s a foreshadowing of their unavoidable separation.
At the very end of the movie, Tai write in his thesis about Human and Digimon’s relationship that Agumon was like a part of himself.
In a way, Agumon symbolizes childhood, the carefree days we would spend as a kid, with our big dreams and hopes. When you grow up, you tend to forget those simple emotions because you get swallowed into the stress of studies, figuring out your carreer, your life path. Just like us, Tai forgot this part of himself. In the madness of growing up, he lost Agumon.
However, it’s not the end. He will pick himself back up. He will move forward in life despite his worries and incertainities, and he will find himself again. Therefore, he will find Agumon again. The kids in the illustration are waving goodbye, but it’s not goodbye, it’s a see you later. In the meantime, Tai is holding on to these precious memories, until they meet again.
#Digimon#Digimon adventure#Yagami Taichi#Digimon adventure : last evolution kizuna#illustration process#kinda analysis#listen im actually writing this for myself#I spend 4 days on that illu with a lot of feels and I need to write them down#This is basically what my close friends have to endure each time I get an obsession

Art Fight- Making good references
In my opinion, a solid character reference is one of the best ways to encourage people to draw your character. Seeing a promising design in the thumbnail and clicking to find a reference that is difficult to parse really demotivates you to draw a character. A simple reference in a static/casual pose without shading is a good way to make sure other artists can easily understand your character with a glance. However a good ref does not need to be a detailed ref, which is what I want to touch on a bit in this post.
For the purpose of this little guide I'll be using Bryophyta, who's reference I wanted to update anyway. This is her current reference. Despite the pose not being very stationary it's actually pretty decent at showing her anatomy, however her design has changed since and my art has improved, hence my desire to update her reference.
This is a more recent image of her. All too often I see people on AF upload characters who's only image are something like this. This is not a good character reference! The shading means its more difficult to pick her colours, in particular for artists who use the colourpicker tool to get accurate colours. If you do shade a reference (sometimes it can help) it should be kept minimal so colours are still easy to figure out. Her pose obscures a lot of her anatomy such as her feet and makes her wings more difficult to understand. Her sitting pose also makes it hard to figure out how long her legs are.
This is still valuable art to include for your character, but it shouldn't be the sole image you rely on.
A good reference does not have to be detailed or clean! This is a sketch I threw together in about 20 minutes. Even just doing something like this is super valuable for helping other artists understand your character. You may know how they look in your head, but everyone else doesn't. So it's good to make your character as understandable as possible to others.
If you want to take it further there is plenty more you can add if you feel up for it. Cleaning up the art and making it more detailed would be good. Her claws for example aren't coloured in that image, and the way her cheek fins are drawn doesn't show the colour of the spines. A little more of extra effort to those spots can pay off if you're willing (though again, isn't necessary!).
Back front and side views for humanoid/anthro characters can be great, and for characters with wings showing what the dorsal (topside) and ventral (underside) look is very useful as well. Another little detail you could add is a more up close and detailed look at a certain part, such as the eye. It's ultimately up to what makes sense for your character! Here are a few other references of varying complexity to show you what you can do.
More polished, and also shows off her teeth + tongue. Also has little bits of flavour text to help flesh out the character more.
A simple front and side view with a little bit of information. Clean and polished finish.
Front, side and back view, along with flavour text and information.
Front and back view, along with an alternate outfit, detailed views of certain body parts and even more informational text. Note that while this one has shading, it doesn't get in the way of picking out colours.
Ultimately how much effort you put into your references depends on what you're up for, and you shouldn't push yourself too far. A simple sketch like the one of Bryophyta is sometimes all that you need.

The Legend of Vox Machina: The Feast of Realms (1x03)
Okay what the FUCK actually though this is so good I'm crying.
Cons:
Uhhh... I guess I'm going to say what a lot of people are saying, which is that a 22-ish minute runtime feels very short? I don't care that things are changed/shortened/removed, and I'm already getting a little peeved with seeing people criticize along the lines of "but Vex got two natural twenties in the stream, she should have had this epic moment yada yada..." this show wouldn't be sustainable as a story if they actually followed the role of the dice in every instance. Of course Delilah doesn't fall on her ass in her opening villain reveal fight, y'all. But even though that's not at all my gripe, I will say things happen so quickly that I do wonder how people new to the story will react! Percy has like two lines of dialogue about the Briarwoods. One, "they took everything from me", and two, "they killed my whole family". I mean, sure, that's the important information to impart, but it certainly doesn't leave a lot of room for these reveals to breathe.
Very minor clunky moment that felt like they had to cut something for time, when they realize Vax is in trouble and Pike says "ugh, we lost the ticket?" to get their weapons back from coat check... there should have been a beat where the Matt Mercer NPC refused to give them their stuff without the ticket, but it wasn't there so I kind of blinked at that moment. Super minor, but there you have it. I can't spend the whole review in utter adulation, that would just be embarrassing.
Pros:
This episode was perfect, holy shit! If after the two-part opener I was having a good time, pleased with what I was seeing, now I'm hyped. Now I think this show is worth recommending to those not in the know, now I think this might be a way to get people intrigued and wanting to go back and watch the stream. Now I'm in the place where I'll be pretty upset if they don't get to make as many seasons of this thing as they want, as many as will let them tell the whole fucking story. It's really good, y'all. It's really, really good.
There's so much to talk about, but let's start with some of my favorite small moments, things I only caught on my second or third watch-through (because yes, I've seen this episode in full three times already, and watched the fight scene at the end more than that). You've got the Easter eggs, particularly the tapestry in the keep that shows the legendary cow episode. You've got the shot of Sylas and Delilah walking by a mirror, and only Delilah's reflection is visible. You've got the broader Critter references, the way Scanlan's outfit is a reference to Sam's ridiculousness at live shows. You've got Simon the belt, with a little eyepatch, so adorable.
And I could probably list a hundred of these, but a few of my favorite smaller character beats, the little details that make these people seem like a real group of friends. Things like Vax and Grog's prank war, Vax calling Pike "Pickle", Scanlan asking Grog to pick the code word, Vex and Vax both immediately closing ranks with Percy and asking what they can do to help when they see him freaking out, Keyleth being worried about Percy during dinner, and Vex jumping in to smooth things over, moments during battle like Pike healing Vax, Pike making Grog's weapon super-charged, Grog saving Percy and taking on Sylas one-on-one, Keyleth's plant magic saving Pike, Keyleth helping Vax to walk after his injuries... I could go on, there's just so much going on here that makes the characters come alive. These tiny moments that would be hard to miss if you didn't know they could have been there, but that add so much life to the characters. I feel like I'm getting to know them again, that I truly have the sense of them as friends, and complex individuals with all their group dynamics and one-on-one dynamics within that group. Truly impressive how much of this they're able to include, even with the extremely short amount of time they have to tell the story. I think I was worried that we'd lose this flavor, that there would be so much plot to get through that the characters would feel like pieces on a chess board, just going where they needed to go to move things along. I'm delighted that this is not the case, and that everyone feels truly alive to me already.
Shout-out also to my favorite comedy moments of the episode. The first coming at the very beginning, where Keyleth does her Disney Princess routine with the plants and the animals, walking into a kitchen where everyone else is clearly exhausted/hung over. It pairs so well with how we saw Keyleth handling her drink in the opening episode, the fact that she's the only chipper morning person. My other favorite joke was thanks to Sam's line delivery, when Grog suggests "Chenga" as the safe word, and Scanlan says "Okay. My safe word's 'Mommy'". That cracked me up. I don't know what it is about Sam's delivery as Scanlan, but Scanlan is funny to me in a way specific to himself, that's slightly different from merely being Sam's brand of comedy on the screen. He really is playing a character, and to be honest I'm surprisingly enjoying Scanlan quite a lot overall!
Let's talk villains, babeyyyy. God, Sylas and Delilah are hot, and their voice actors are blowing it out of the water! Matt as Sylas is properly sinister and sexy, and Grey DeLisle-Griffin as Delilah can step on me. They're really relishing in the subtle torture of Percy in this episode, clearly knowing who he is and enjoying making him squirm. There's also this obvious affection and devotion between them from the jump. You know they're a team, and they're all the more scary for it. Sylas biting Vax was... a lot... in the best way, and Delilah's line where she calls Percy a "pup" was such a good version of what Matt did in the stream at that moment! I'm already so excited to see the story play out with them. It still feels like a dream come true that I'm even getting to watch this.
Let's take a moment to talk about Taliesin Jaffe. Dude deserves an award for his performance in this show, and we're only just getting fucking started. God, I couldn't believe how good he was with every line. The dream at the start, Vex asking him if he had a bad dream, and his delivery on "is there any other kind" was just so perfectly emo in that very Percy de Rolo way. His innocent and earnest excitement about attending the banquet, and then the moment of truth when the Briarwoods of Whitestone are announced... chilling. And then everything at the dinner table, the way he growls out the barest of explanations to his friends... his ferociousness during the fight, and then of course "you fool, now your soul is forfeit"... chills. Just. Chills to all of it. I think he's doing an incredible job. I'll repeat what I've said before: the Briarwood arc is such a strong part of campaign one, and that's in large part due to Matt, of course, and his crafting of the story. But I really think that in the hands of a less skilled performer playing Percy, we wouldn't have the extremely fond memories we have of it today. He is so, so good at playing the dark, brooding young man out for revenge. He is the platonic ideal of that trope and he is taking it to new levels here in the animated version. I'm dying of happiness over it all.
So after I watched the full episode three times, I went back and watched the courtyard fight and the No Mercy Percy part like... five times in a row. It's some of my favorite stuff that I've seen in any show ever; I can already tell it's going to be imprinted on my mind for a long time.
I think what impresses me is how intimidating the Briarwoods managed to be, and it's making me look back more favorably on some aspects of the first two episodes. Because we saw these guys get their asses kicked by a dragon, but then we saw them rally, strategize, and kill said dragon in the very next episode, once they had their shit together. But here? Grog goes one-on-one with Sylas, and while he briefly seems to be making an impact with Pike's help, ultimately he's no match for this single vampire. Delilah bats away Keyleth and Vex's attack like it's nothing. Even after Keyleth does the cool plant magic thing, easily the most intense magic of the fight, the Briarwoods only decide to run off because they realize their fight has been noticed and they don't want to blow their cover and position with the council. You get the sense that had they not been worried about being caught, they would have cut through those vines and taken their sweet time murdering every member of Vox Machina, if they'd felt like it.
And just like in the Brimscythe fight, the characters all have a chance to do the things they're best at. Only this time, none of it works, and not because they're unprepared or fucking up, but because Delilah and Sylas are just that powerful. Percy shoots Sylas in the chest, and it doesn't matter. Keyleth shape shifts, and throws powerful nature spells at them. Doesn't matter. Vex makes a perfect shot at Delilah. Grog is going ham on Sylas' ass, swinging his axe with everything he's got, and yeah, you've guessed it, doesn't matter. That's so scary, it ups the stakes in this very obvious, dramatic way, and then the Briarwoods drive off before we get any sort of real resolution. I love that we start off our relationship with these villains by getting a big fight scene, because we're building up to some even more intense stuff later down the road, and this gives me such high hopes for how it's going to go.
Along the same line, I love how hurt Vax was, how seriously imperiled he was. While I've heard some criticism that the gore in the show feels a bit gratuitous, and while I might even agree with that in some moments, one thing that it does do is make you understand the physical stakes in a very clear way. In a lot of animated shows, characters look weak, they're lying on the ground, but they don't appear to be bleeding, and it's just sort of through context/inference that we know how worried we're meant to be about them. Here, Vax gets bitten in the neck by a vampire, and then he jumps out a window, and then he stands and tries to fight and is immediately slashed through the chest. We see the blood clouding in the water when Grog is getting cut up by Craven Edge (shout out to the sword, the design is awesome and I'm so glad it got its moment to shine, in a one-on-one against Grog, which is significant for those of us in the know!). It's an immediate sense of peril, and while we can be sure that Vax isn't actually going to die here and now, it sets the stakes for how fucked up these characters might become in later episodes, how injured and weak and scared and in pain.
The fight was high octane and intensely animated and fun all the way through, and then there's Percy, turning and yelling at his friends, which is not in the streaming show but I love as an addition, showing that he's so off-kilter he can't be trusted to be reasonable with them. And then my favorite bit from all three episodes thus far: Percy reloading his Pepperbox, cocking the gun, kicking Desmond down flat onto his back. Pointing the gun at him. Putting on the mask. Black shadow curling up from around him, his shadow on the ground forming... something clearly inhuman. Shooting Desmond's hand. "Fool. Now your soul is forfeit."
Just... chilling. Everything about the way this was shot, animated, voice acted, the soundtrack, the script... absolutely brilliant and bad-ass and untouchable.
For me personally, this fight and the fallout with Percy was as near perfection as one could hope to get in an animated telling of this story. It doesn't bother me even a little bit that things have changed from the stream to now; it set the stakes, and it's telling its own version of the story so many of us already know in another form. If I could give some of my fellow viewers one piece of advice, it would be to try and let go of the stream just a little bit. I purposefully chose not to do a Briarwood re-watch as the animated series came up, and I think that was the right call. Is every single moment I loved going to be animated exactly the way I pictured it in my head? Nope! Not even close! But so far, especially with episode three, I'm finding it very easy to love what I've been given, and not stress so much about what's not there. The stream is always going to be there for you to go back and watch. That version of the story isn't dying, or being replaced. This is just a new version of that story, and I think it's pretty dang outstanding so far.
My rating for this third episode is pretty dang high. I can't remember the last time I felt so immediately sucked in and invested in a story.
9.5/10

how old is ash on yours au’s?
It really really depends and I’m finding out that I’m absolutely horrible at actually giving out somewhat concrete ages, barring a few Au’s.
Unspokenly Ash is usually around late 20 to very early 22, unless I did write down and post an age for him in what ever Au has it, but thats also more drabble and fillet based. That is… basically my standard and I really need to vocalize that more from the content that I do write him as younger.
Basically how it goes is that with each region he ages up a year. Spending his birthday at home with his mom and the Oak’s that are present at the time before going off on another adventure. This gets kind of tricky around Sinnoh because Ash stay’s there to take on The Brain. I have that written down that it takes 3 month’s to even half a year. Which then put’s off the ‘sharing the birthday with mom and oak’ thing. This lands his birthday in the middle of his current journey at the time or a bit later like right before the league or a month before, if that makes sense. So in the end he comes home obviously older. Though I have been messing around and making the time in Orange Isles shorter to around 9 months instead of a full year.
Like here’s a time table and I’ll keep both set’s of ages if I do mess around with Orange Isles time line and add it as concrete. It gets really complicated so if you want a little more explanation please don’t be afraid to ask. I am also keeping the Brain Arc to half a year.
Starting age to finishing age *0/12 means how many months he is instead of a full year.
Kanto: 10 to 11
Orange Isles: 11 to 12 or 11 to 11 + 9/12
Johto: 12 to 13 or 11 + 9/12 to 12 + 9/12
Hoenn: 13 to 14 or 12 + 9/12 to 13 + 9/12
Sinnoh: 14 to 15 or 13 + 9/12 to 14 + 9/12
+ battling the Brain: 15 to 15 + 6/12 or 14 + 9/12 to 15 + 3/12
Unova: 15 + 6/12 to 16 + 6/12 or 15 + 3/12 to 16 + 3/12
Kalos: 16 + 6/12 to 17 + 6/12 or 16 + 3/12 to 17 + 3/12
Alola: 17 + 6/12 to 18 + 6/12 or 17 + 3/12 to 18 + 3/12
Galar: 18 + 6/12 to 19 + 6/12 or 18 + 3/12 to 19 + 3/12
I just want to say that typing all this out looks like one hell of a long ass math equation, kinda hate it and might change it later. But this is my completely basic format of what I use. Of course there’s a lot of wiggle room as I write Ash starting around 20 to 21 in Alola and Galar. He’s obviously going to probably spend more the one complete year in a region and less then another. The end of the league doesn’t dictate when he stays and leaves. Theres also the months that build up between each “arc”, another word I use to refer to his journeys, and to account the HC that some leagues start off at wildly different times then others.
It’s literally just a pick-and-pull basket and just a large general target where Ash would be ages wise. As you see in the end the two different age lists end up being only 3 months part from each other. It really doesn’t matter and I’m mostly just playing around with it. Another note thats… vital isn’t the correct word but I’m use it is that I don’t take Cerise Laboratory and the research assistant job into account. This is based off if Ash travels Galar to his normal standard with every other arc but Alola but I did keep the characters.
You didn’t ask for this but I want to add in other traveling buddies and side rivals ages and how they are compared to Ash as well. Usually Ash is the youngest if not one of them up until Hoenn. With the exception of being exactly 24 hours older then Ritchie. And all of this have way to much detail but its making my ADHD brain go brrrr happily.
He’s older than May, surprisingly, by like a month and a half but he doesn’t realize that and mentally clocks that he’s younger than her because of how responsible and adult like she acts a good chunk of the time. Max is obviously the youngest while Brock is the oldest. The same thing kinda happens in Sinnoh. He’s older then Dawn by a good year and a half to maybe even two years. Though Ash is younger then Paul and Barry by a varying few months between each boy.
Unova is where it changes a lot. Going from one of the youngest to one of the oldest out of his group of friends. Iris is drastically 3 years younger then Ash, making her around 12 at the start of the arc and somewhere around 13 at the end, and around 3 and a half with Cilan. This causes her to constantly pick against Ash because to her he’s older. Ash should be acting more like a seasonal trainer with known responsibilities and shouldn’t be so excited about everything. That’s also an expectation that was subconsciously taught to her by Drayden when she was still in School in the Dragon Village. Virgil is actually the oldest being freshly turned 18 years old while Cameron is the youngest at 11 and 5 months. Stephan is like the closest to Ash’s actually age but also acts a lot more older and more adult like then he really is just by his laid back attitude. Bianca actually just turned 18 before starting her journey.
Age Note: the reason why Cilan is weird and awkward around Burgundy is not because of her short temper and brash attitude but because Burgundy just turned 13 years old. She is a legitimate child just like Iris, compared to Cilan’s 16 years and 6 months when the meet on the road for the first time and not at a connoisseur event. Her deep infatuation and how young she is really puts Cilan in a active land mine field. Unlike Iris who listens to him and actually talks, he has no clue how to interact with her. Burgundy isn’t a normal gym challenger coming to his and his brother gym for a badge or even a normal crazed simple fan. As a gentleman at heart as well he raised to talk between certain age limits close to his own and this ends up making Cilan see Burgundy actually younger then she really is. Kind of like how Iris clocked Ash as a ‘kid’ when he’s obviously older then her and more experienced.
Kalos then thrusts Ash or being the oldest out of the main group but not as a whole. Bonnies around 8 while Clemont is 2 months and a half younger then Ash. This is where I struggle a lot in placing peoples based age in Kalos is actually because of Serena. I don’t want to make her too young to which the point it’s weird and also I based the other contest girls age’s around hers. But I also don’t want to make her too old to the point that Miette, the oldest out of the contest girls no matter what, is older then Ash. The general consensus is that Miette is right in with Clemont and Ash age wise while Nini is the youngest out of the trio. So that places Serena around 13 to 14 while Nini is like 12 and 7 months. Sawyer is obviously just turned 10 while Trevor, Tierno, and Shauna are between 12 and a half to 13 and a half years old. Giving that easy bonding connection with Serena and Shauna while giving Miette a older more experienced vibe and the childlike wonder to Nini. You’d think with Alain and all Ash would be the second oldest but your wrong. Ash is exactly 1 whole week older then Alain but, much like May, he doesn’t know that and mentally clocks Alain older then he really is.
In comes Alola and this is again where I usually bump Ash up to 20 to 21 but for the sake of everything I’m going off the basic target. Ash is obviously the oldest of the class by a good year on them alone though the classes collective smarts pushed them up different grades in school so thats how their together. Kiawe was the oldest at 16 and 9 months while Sophocles is still the youngest at 12 and 3 months, again bringing in the fact that the class is super smart and its based off intelligence instead of age like with every other class. Mallow is the third oldest at 16 and 2 months with Lana following on by at 16 and 1 month. Lillie is specifically around 15 years to 13 years and 4 months based off if I want her to suffer more as a older teen or as a child, literally her age is based off if I want to traumatize her more or not. Hapu is around 12 to 13 years old despite her obvious size and squeaky-ish voice. Acerola despite being very very mature for her age is only 17 years and 4 months old. Horacio is about Ash’s age at an even 17 years old when he and his lackies first meet Ash, Sophocles, and Kiawe.
Age Note: Horacio absolutely used his age as a card against Sophocles as many times as he could to the point it was so overused. This made Ash especially angry because he hated it when people used their age against much younger kids. Just because you’re older doesn’t mean you’re right.
Then we reach Galar as our final stop. Ash is once more the oldest out of him, Chloe, and Goh but not everyone else. That would be Hodge at a straight 19 years old when he first meets Ash and Goh at the Battle Frontier Flute Cup. Chloe comes at 14 and a half years old with Goh just freshly turning 14. This makes Ash’s relationship more of a mentor type distant older brother thing. Those two actually don’t find out about Ash’s age up until he and Goh get their letter so of recommendation and have to fill out the normal personal stuff. If you think Hop is close by in age with Ash then you’re wrong again. He’s actually two days younger then Chloe making Hop around 14 and a half years old as well. Marine is 13 years and 9 months old. Bede is much more closer to Ash then the others at 16 years 8 months. For Leon, Raihan, and Sonia their still very much the same in a way. Leon is still the youngest at 20 years while Raihan is the oldest at 23, leaving Sonia in the middle at 21 and a half years old.
Age note… once more: this fits perfectly for the Kanto and Galar Trios as they basically get opposite of themselves in a way. Goh who’s very oriented, loud, and on the go gets paired with marine who’s very quite and shy for the most part and their going to subconsciously teach each other that its okay to come out of your shell or its okay to take a moment and relax. Hop is very much like Ash and Goh combined with the strategies and the none stop puppy own straight crack like energy and he declares himself as Chloe’s, who’s silent and very critical and almost broody like it’s not quite there but it’s close enough, rival and is trying to teach her that battling is fun and okay and a lot of Pokemon like battling for those reason. Ash and Bede are the obvious choice for each other because once again Ash is very bright, happy-go-lucky, just sweet in general to everyone while Bede is completely broody, extremely sour, and just utterly rolling in his own image and being way to cocky.

Hi! I don't know if this is an annoying/difficult question, sorry if it is, but do you have any advice at all for modelling sims based off real people? Your sims are SO crazy good. When I try to make them they end up looking... eh... Vaguely like the person? But there's a huge gap between that and some kind of 'spark' some simmers seem to manage to capture.
Hello! Definitely not annoying. Difficult, as in how difficult it is to answer? Maybe. I'm gonna go off on a couple of tangents. But I'm gonna try my best to explain the process. Which isn't really much of one sorry.
There's a handful of tutorials and tips out there regarding reference photos and like... proportions and all that so I won't cover that.
I use that as a general guide of course, but mostly I just save some photos of the person at various angles and focus on one feature or two at a time. Literally going back and forth between reference photo and my game. I think if you try to get everything at the same time, it really makes it easy to get frustrated with whatever your sim looks like at the moment. Making sims in general is a combination of a LOT of things depending on your style.
I can point out ALL the flaws with my sims based on real people. In my experience, it’s about getting the defining features of a person close enough to the real thing so that it resembles them. I don't think you need a complete copy to get the point across, however i do think some people and features are harder to emulate than others. I've been working on some sims for YEARS, and they still don't work out lol
and take a look at this progression on my sim based on Z4ne H0ltz starting back in 2015!
that first screenshot:
Personally, I get a little lost if I work on a sim too much all at once. I find some time away makes me less tired and frustrated. Just pace yourself :)
Also if you need any help, shoot me a message here or on discord. I promise I don't judge or anything.. it's sims who cares lol
TO START...
I suggest starting with the head and its shape. Starting off with a game-generated sim, the first slider I get to is head width. It's usually too dang wide for my tastes. And then adjusting the general position of the the features. You can always change things later, so you don't have to know exactly what you're going to do, but as I've mentioned before, sculpting sims up in CAS is just practice with sliders! Also in the long run, you may want to use Pu+Chi House's Smooth Face Normals slider! I attempt to explain and show what it does here. I've uploaded the slider here: https://simfileshare.net/download/984204/
This is gonna be a doozy sorry in advance if the read more doesn't work
SLIDERS SLIDERS SLIDERS
Big sliders like Pu+Chi House’s face shape sliders dramatically change the face shape, and it could save you a lot of time! I highly suggest using these to get rid of the weird large jaw sims can get.
Play with different sliders and how they interact with one another! Example: jaw width and Cheek Fullness affect the same area. if you need a wide jaw and don’t want cheek distortion, you can use cheek fullness, lower the jaw width slider and then edit the cheekbones from there
Knowing what sliders move what and how it can work to your advantage is key! I cover this in my reply post about noses.
For visual reference:
I start out with my nose but I want the nostrils to sit further on the outside
so i go in and use the nose width slider and raise it to widen the lower nose:
Then lower the nostril scale slider
Comparison:
as you can see, i kind of achieved what I wanted, but also widened the nose tip too! Welp, that takes another slider I have, Tip Width. And I'll adjust that accordingly! It's really just a matter of what you're going for and what you're going to have to compensate for as a result!
That said, our community has made some awesome sliders that open up so many possibilities and even eliminate the need to do that multi-slider tango. I wouldn't even know where to begin (wish I wanted to make videos because I could talk for an hour about sliders)
For example @pitheinfinite made sliders that can make sims look better and more realistic, I'm jealous at what they've achieved!
They have their Inner Corner to Nose slider that moves an area of the sim's face hat make eyebags and the shadows and lines appear farther out from the inner eye. It saves you from having to use cheek sliders to mimic the effect and thus ruining the face shape you have going
It's truly an INDISPENSABLE slider. One of many!
Since I make sliders, I usually just make some to specifically fix whatever issue I'm having. Granted they're made with general function in mind, which makes my cheater-y way of making things happen more useful in the future. I have about 50 experimental unfinished sliders in my game and can tell you that all my current sims use them for some reason or other. So I'm not working with nothing, I guess?
EYE SPY 👁
The best way to really get nice accurate looking sims is the eyes.
Pay attention to the slant of the eye, the shape and position of the upper and lower eyelids. you can use the game’s Eyelid Height slider, and AWT’s Eyelid width and height sliders (and many more)
and especially where the iris (green) sits relative to the eyelid. getting that shape and eyeball positioned correctly really makes a HUGE difference
I do suggest Bloom’s Eye slider (left and right) that rotate the eyes left and right. That along with their Lazy eye sliders can give your sims a less symmetric face and position the eyes to be FAR more accurate and realistic than the default.
I also recommend their vertical sliders (Eye lift or drop) to help with eye positioning.
I can't stress the importance of the right contacts or eyes for your sims. Of course it all depends on how you make your sims's eyes and all that. Take the last sim i posted about. It took forever and a half to find the right contacts that didn't need severe or intense editing to capture the same vibe the person he's based on. The problem is pretty persistent for me, and I am just speaking for myself when I say this is necessary. Iris size, shading, recolorability, detail, catch lights, and pupil position are things to consider for your play style and preferences.
In addition to seeing what eyes will do the trick, I do edit the catch lights in the screenshots to give the eyes a different emotion or look. (I use defaults that get rid of the game-generated catch lights, and supernatural eye glow.) It's nice when that's all it is and I don't have to go in and photoshop things in and out to make them look human lmao
Perfect, schmerfect
And just know that as long as you have the same vibe or look going on it doesn't need to be perfect! Things will evolve over time, and you can change and perfect things as you go along, but close is better than trying to achieve an exact replica. We are working with the limitations of sliders and the optimized meshes they work on! So yeah there might be jagged bits or the profile might not exactly match and some things might not be accurate, but that's okay! Considering what sims look like at their default, you should be proud! I use the same mf eyebrows on all my sims basically and I tell myself they're just placeholders (yeah, right), but I manage to make them work with what I have!
Sliders, Makeup, and Skins, oh my!
a good base skin is critical, but not the end of the world if you pick the wrong one. They determine kind of definition and types of features highlighted on a sim 100000% and you might lose a feature you like or dislike when you change them! Feel free to switch up between skins you have to find the best fit.
Makeup can be a game-changer though!!! Any details you can add and help make your sim look the most like the person you're basing them off can go MILES.
In some cases, I've actually gotten really interesting results trying to get my sculpt as close as possible to real life references so the makeup makes a difference but don't define the features by themselves. Still, though, I utilize makeup up a LOT. [remember that if you use Nraas, you can layer makeup. Right-clicking makeup will also remove it if it's applied :)]
Here's the last sim i posted about when removing makeup:
no nosemasks really replicates the face-claim's nose (too shiny at the lower part) but it'll do 🤷♀️
Freckles, eyebags, highlighters, face shadows, pores, nosemasks, etc are all great!!
The way you move your sliders WILL effect how these look, so don't rely on makeup that adds super-specific detail or goes over an area you know is a jumbled mess because of sliders!
I do have a mess of recommendations and wcifs for skins and makeup. replies tag | wcif tag
[also I love compiling wcif cc lists for my sims it's great]
Finally, I appreciate your comment about my sims, mainly because I know they're not ever really exact copies or as close as I want to be to their real life counterparts, so thanks!! I've seen fellow simmers get really good results without messing as much as I do and I love when people can make really good maxis match likenesses because it's just so damn cool! It's truly a talent. I'm not one of those lucky few, but I like to try my way at it anyway. After what feels like some good progress I'll post a pic here. Even after doing this forever I don't feel like I'm an expert or can get good results in a shorter amount of time, but it's just fun to see the progression (or regression) of how my sims look.

( Notice: OKAY - The pic there says ‘The Hobbit/LOTR’ but for times sake, and my own sanity, there is none listed thus-far (same goes for the ‘other’ category’). Merci for understanding! )
So I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, and I already have a blog for it ( @nemosrepost ) but that doesn’t get too much attention. Thus, here we are!
(This was a nightmare to get done - it took weeks to get all the links and pics done up in my spare time - I hope you appreciate that.)
They’re all sorts here, from Medieval Marvel AU’S, to Modern Attack on Titan one shots. They’re all organised via fandom, and I’ve tried my best to link and tag everything properly, but that is a difficult feat, so beware - for some it may not have worked too well.
Like my *actual* masterlist, this will be updated regularly with new fic recs, and even new characters and fandoms as I read them. All fic’s currently listed (as of November 26, 2020) are found on my reblog account.
I’ve also tried to add in a ‘recommendation summary’ thing of each - so basically just my thoughts on the fic(s). But anyway, have fun browsing, and overall - enjoy!
(AND also - LMAOOOO - Have fun scrolling lololololol!) - Nemo
( Pre - Warning: I am not tagging anything as NSWF, 18+, or triggering content. However some fics listed do contain such material. Please refer to the warnings or Authors Notes on each Fic before reading. Stay safe guys! I love you! )
Bluebellhairpin’s Masterlist
Bucky Barnes
Knight in Rusty Armour - Medieval / A/B/O AU! Series - by @revengingbarnes Honestly I binged the first eight chapters (+ prologue) in close to one sitting. That was mostly because that was all that was published at the time. It is completed now. I love both these AU’s, and I love Bucky - win, win!
Flowers Bloom - Soulmate AU! Series - by revengingbarnes Another great series, and honestly I’m a slut for soulmate au’s, so this author might be coming after my heart - keep up that good work, if you know what I mean.
The Great Build Up - Modern / Firefighter Au! One Shot - by @thottybarnes This ones goes from cute, to hot and steamy, to angsty, and back to cute again. A one shot rollercoaster, and I thoroughly enjoyed every word of it.
Maybe This Time - Mob Au! One Shot - by @propertyofpoeandbucky Okay, so if there’s one thing I like more than an mobster au, it’s adding children into the mix. Something about big bad guys going all soft for this tiny human - and then making them - and that’s called perfection.
Whatever It Takes - Biker AU! One Shot - by @sgtjbuccky He like’s to be loud, so what. He rides a bike, so what. I what to ride him and his bike, so what.
(Un-Named) - One Shot - by @softlybarnes I’ve never liked Bucky’s metal arm more in my entire life. Using it for a baby going through teething? A+ idea.
Hero, Waiting - Medieval AU! One Shot - by captain-ariel-barnes Sadly, this fic is unavailable now, and that - obviously - makes me sad. But I’m adding it her anyway because of how much I adored it. The love triangle between Bucky, Reader, and Steve was amazing, and the feelings? Phenomenal.
Steve Rogers
If Walls Could Talk - One Shot - by propertyofpoeandbucky I’ll recreate my original comment on this fic - ‘Ouch’. And that’s all I have to say about that.
The End of the War - College AU! One Shot - by @redgillan There’s nothing quite like a enemies to lovers trope that’s well-written. But then throw in fight club, a jerk date, ice-cream and pizza - just read it. You’ll understand then.
The Edge of the Water - Mermaid AU! Series - @floatingpetals I have to admit now, I haven’t read all of this yet. But I also have to say, what I have read was fantastic. Mermaids - and Mermen - they just hit different, you know?
Pseudo Princess - Medieval AU! Series - by @shreddedparchment To date, it’s one of the best fics - nay - stories I’ve ever read. I’d dare to say it’s easily the length of a novel, so if you’re up for the long haul, I’d definitely recommend it. It’s worth the wait - trust me. Op obviously put a hella lot of work into it, and it shows.
Loki Laufeyson
Loki’s Happy Ending - Series (?) - by @gingerwritess Listen, I have been and forever will be a Loki girl. Nothing will change that. And every scrap of content Theo produces for Loki I will cradle in my palms and keep warm until they’re ready to go out into the world or whatever - point is, read this.
Just One Quick Glance - One Shot - by @imagines-trashcan After watching ‘Endgame’, and squealing at every moment Loki appeared on screen, only to not have him show up in the final battle - this was one of my comfort fics.
thunderstorms. - One Shot - by @tarynkauai Naturally, Loki’s child would inherit his unease of thunderstorms. And naturally, seeing Loki as a dad makes me happy.
Stitches - One Shot - by @lokibug Loki being nice. I like that. We stan.
Quentin Beck
The Curveball - One Shot - by @healingchurch Listen, this is on here for a reason. I didn’t really like Mysterio ‘cause of what he did to Peter, but hey, some people are good actors, and some write characters acting very well.
Stephen Strange
(Un-Named) - Imagine / One Shot - by @archieimagines A cocky bastard and a shy Reader, as far as I’m concerned that a one-way ticket straight to my heart. *wink wonk*.
(Un-Named) - One Shot - by @whirlybirbs Honestly, there are multiple fics of hers on this list, and that’s because she’s a damn fine writer, and her stories are just that addictive. This one is no different. I was preparing to read more and then it ended. But all good things, right?
Crash and Burn - One Shot - by @lilyswritings The angst, and the angst. I cry, you cry, everyone cries. Unfortunately there is only the one part, but much to my personal joy that means I can interpret the after-ending however I want!
Frank Castle
(Un-Named) - One Shot - by @alexsunmners This is just cute okay? I have no other words except this was plain and simply very, very, very nice to read, and that it makes me feel very soft right here on the inside.
Peter Parker
Super Smooth Genius - One Shot (?) - by whirlybirbs Back at it again with the cute, awkward, friendly, neighbourhood, Peter Parker.
Just Don’t - Soulmate AU! One Shot - by @papel-creativo What’d I tell you about soulmate au’s? I can’t resist them. And of course Pete being a caring bf with his hero s/o. So nice.
Ronan the Accuser
Make You Proud - One Shot - by @kayleighhalliday2203 This is justifiable because I was going through a Lee Pace faze and I found it and loved it immediately.
Ultron
(Un-Named) - One Shot / Series - by @snarky-badger This I can also justify having read, because (and if you know me then you know) the robot thing ... Doesn’t bother me as much as it should. And I binged all of it on ao3, so.
Poe Dameron
(Un-Named) - Masterlist - by propertyofpoeandbucky Okay, I know there’s a lot on this list, and it could take you a while to get through it all, but trust me - it’s worth it. Lani likes Poe, and it shows. He’s written so well.
Dashing - One Shot / Series ? - by whirlybirbs Birbs does it again. She’s got Punchy!Reader, and if there were a legal way to get all of this Poe thing down into a written book, I’d do it.
You Can See Me? - Modern / Ghost AU! One Shot - by @tintinwrites I just this this one’s really cool. And what Poe does for the reader at the end? So sweet! He would totally do that!
Across the Hall - Modern / Nurse AU! Series - by @starryeyedstories It’s cute, it’s fun, it’s got tension, and a little drama - plus a smidge of angst and Corgi!BB-8. If perfection were ever made into a Modern/Nurse au Poe fic - this would be it.
Deepest, Lightest Secrets - One Shot - by @writefightandflightclub It’s got the humour and overall feel you’d expect to come from something Star Wars related - honestly I had so much fun reading it, and I’ll happily do it again.
Levi Ackerman
Names for Him & You - One Shot - by @commanderserwin Again, op is one of my main sources for fic’s in this area - so there could be quite a few of them listed here. But this one? Cute as heck.
Levi’s Secret - Modern AU! One Shot - by @theamberwriter This one was damn funny in my opinion. Nothing can ever be hidden from Hange for long.
You Look So Beautiful In White - Modern AU! One Shot - by @alrightberries This fic, it carved out my heart, diced it, shoved it in a blender, then made it into an atomic bomb. I - I was not okay. That amount of angst shouldn’t be allowed. Read it.
Abeille - Modern / Mafia AU! Series - by @ackermans-freedom-inc Honestly, this isn’t finished yet but, honestly, I’m not ready for it to finish. The heartache. The betrayal. The child. I can’t even.
Lights - Modern AU! One Shot - by commanderserwin This was the first fic I ever read of op’s, and I couldn’t believe what I read so I went back and read it again. I can’t tell you how much I love it, or how I feel about it, so just go read for yourself and you’ll know.
To Build a Home - Modern AU! Series - by @vennilavee If you’re a fan of Levi, you must go read this. It’s so detailed, and just so perfect - whenever a new part comes out I have a quick reboot before going to read it.
Erwin Smith
One of Us - Modern AU! Miniseries - by commanderserwin I’m not going to lie, this one is here because I requested it, but also because I really liked it, and cried while reading it. So there.
Reiner Braun
Service to the Crown - Medieval AU! Miniseries - by @present-mel It should probably be illegal to write Reiner or Medieval au’s this well, and yet here op is writing both. Like, McScuse me, where do you acquire such talent and can I have some?
Toshinori Yagi
Flirting with All Might - One Shot - by @lemonlordleah-shinzawa-kitten Toshi. The great. The hero. The awkward. He’s a blond boy doing what blond boys do even if he’s a little older he’s still part of the crew.
Stitches - Villain AU / Mini Series - by @itsallmightbitch Okay, so I said above that I wouldn’t put warnings on these - but this time I have to. Nothing I’ve read in my whole life emmits such an amount of pure horniness - and I love it.
Godless - Fantasy AU / One Shot - by @pleasantanathema Another ‘All Smite’ fic, yes, I know. But god. They’re so good. This one is another real horny one, so if you can’t tell there is a slight theme running here. And - sksksksks - this is actually from the same ‘general area’ as the Reiner fic listed above (Service to the Crown). There was a event. I read everything.
Keigo Takami
Preening - One Shot - by @shoutaaizawas Literally the softest and cutest damned thing I’ve read for Keigo. No, I’m not just ‘saying’ that, it’s genuine. The feelings I get - or lack thereof due to them turning to mush - it too much for words. Honest.
Seasonal Special - One Shot - by @keiqos I’ll say this now and I’ll say it first - any Hawks fics written by op are *chefs kiss*. They’re amazing. Secondly, rut!Hawks is my weakness - this fic is one of such weaknesses.
Shouto Aizawa
(Un-Named) - Series - by @theamberwriter This is *technically* the second part in the series, but it’s the only part I’ve read and goddamnit, I’m in love. Hubby Aizawa. The disappearing Baby-Zawa.
I Miss You Texts - SMAU - Kuroo Tetsurou, Bokuto Koutarou, Nishinoya Yuu - by @briswriting I miss them too. They ain’t dead. I just feel like I haven’t seen them in so long.
Little Things - Headcanons - Karasuno - by @haikyuudreaming Every single one makes me feel so nostalgic, and I feel so much longing. I love. I loose. I pine. I want. And yet I cannot have. I only dream.
Cheerleader - Headcanons - Karasuno - by @imagine-101 I want to be their cheerleader. Now I am able to be. Op, many thanks for the feeding.
Tsukishima Kei
Cherry Wine - Single Parent AU! Series - by @bakugou-jpg I’m gonna head out and say that Tsukki was my first favourite Haikyuu character - then I ‘character developed’ but that only went so far as to give me more favorites. But deadass - read this and you won't regret it.
Ukai Keishin
(Un-Named) - Ballroom/Latin Dancer AU! Headcanons - by @imagine-that-haikyuu I know nothing about dancing. Or ballroom dancing. But I do know I’d love to dance with Ukai. So how’s that for ‘middle ground’?

Multi-Dimensional Pt. 5
In which you have a genius idea to take these suckers out, you accidentally do something you’re not supposed to, and you take the taller bit of your friends out.
----
And then, you realize, that it's getting deeper into October.
As it got deeper into October, the dwarves and hobbit remain in your house. It's been a total of 2 1/2 weeks, now, and you can tell they're getting antsy from staying in one place for so long.
Like, around halloween time.
An idea strikes you in the head like a bag of bricks, and right away you realize that you're a genius.
You're sitting on the couch with Bilbo, Oin, and Bofur when the lightbulb goes off in your head suddenly, and once it does you hop to your feet and run upstairs at top speed, successfully baffling everyone idly watching the nature documentary you put on.
You pass Dwalin and Balin while you zoom to your bedroom, and when they see you run past them like freaking Speedy Gonzales they're both super confused.
Right away you grab your laptop off your bed and pull up a window.
The keys of your compute clack softly while you type in your town as well as 'Halloween Festival' and the first few results as well as images on the Google engine prove your theory.
Every year here people dress up in advance and celebrate throughout the duration of the week leading up to it. Of course, the trick-or-treating only happens on the day of, but there are a plethora of other things for people to do during that week.
People dress up, children go on field trips, there's a festival, and even the grocery stores have little events they put on to promote their business.
You've never really gone before since crowded places aren't the most comfortable for you, but you actually feel a little giddy about taking them all to see the town with you.
Right away you know you're going to have to buy them all costumes, but for the last week you've been pet sitting this rich couples Rag-doll cat, Princess, and your going rate is $18/hr for a week... Do the math ;).
You're going to get paid later in the day today after you drop her back off at their house, and that's not even accounting for the other animals you've been watching for varying amounts as well.
So, essentially, you're gonna be perfectly fine financially.
Anyways, as soon as you're done doing your little bit of research there on your computer you close it and leave your room again, hopping down the stairs with a big bright smile on your face.
When you reenter the living room, everyone is gathered there and looking at you expectantly.
At first, you don't do or say anything since you're super confused, but when the silence begins to drag on for too long you ask hesitantly, "Uh... Is everything alright? What's going on?"
"Well, you left to your room very quickly." Bilbo comments, standing up from his spot on the couch, "But from the smile on your face, I'm assuming it wasn't because of anything bad?"
You nod your head and sigh, leaning down to pet Mittens who is rubbing herself against your legs, "Yeah, everything's fine. It's great, actually." You pause for dramatic effect, then add, "I just figured out a way to take all of you out! Like, to see the town and stuff!"
"You have?" Thorin asks, raising an eyebrow skeptically.
"Mmhm!" You stand up straight and nod your head quickly, bouncing on the balls of your feet, "See, I figured I'd probably be able to take you and maybe Kili, Bofur, and Dwalin out at some point... like, if some of you were to groom yourselves different or wear hats...," once more you stop your speech and realize that may be offensive, "N-Not that I think there's anything wrong with how you look-"
"Nobody is offended, I'm sure. Go on." Thorin urges, amusement present on their faces from your sudden frantic backtracking so you don't offend them.
"R-Right, uh... anyways, you guys are taller so I knew I could probably bring you along sometime, but I wasn't sure how to get everyone else to come along, and then I realized that this next week is the week leading up to halloween!" You say it like it will answer all their questions, forgetting that they probably don't know what halloween is.
Silence passes by for a few seconds as they wait for you to go on, and when you don't Kili asks, "What's 'halloween'?"
"Oh, yeah, it's like, a holiday where children dress up and go to peoples houses to get candy. And when I say dress up, I mean in costumes." You rub the back of your neck while you explain and add, "In my city, the place we are now, we celebrate throughout the whole week. There are games, festivals, and lots of events... and there are people running around in masks all of the time. So I can get some of you costumes and then I can bring you all along!" Your smile returns as you pick apart the details, and it seems your excitement is contagious.
"Wait, so we will get to walk around the town and see other things?" Nori questions, looking over at his brothers with a smile.
"Yeah, but I gotta get you costumes first. Like, ghosts and some masks of different things. But if we wanna make the most of our time then I should probably go now."
You turn after that and go to the counter to grab your purse, pausing when Balin asks, "So it's a holiday where people run around in disguises, getting candy, and playing games as a community?"
Once again you nod your head, turning around to look at him with the same bright smile on your face.
"So, anyone can be anyone?" The older dwarf asks, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Yeah, pretty much." You look down and go through your purse, making sure everything you need is in there before walking over to put on your tennis shoes.
"Even the man who was here the week before?"
Now that certainly gives you a pause.
Before you were never worried about it, but now with what's happened with him, you aren't so sure that it's so safe anymore.
"Um... yeah, I guess." You'd rather not think about it, so you start to tie your laces up. "I'm sure it'll be fine."
"Well, you already said that you can bring some of us, so why not do that now? Just to make sure?" Balin asks, though it's more of a 'you should really do it cause we're gonna freak out if you don't'.
You don't respond and instead finish tying your shoes first, thinking over his request.
When you're done doing up your shoes you turn and see that they're all looking at you with similar expressions of worry, and it makes you sigh, "Okay, fine. But whoever goes can't wear their normal clothes cause people will be weirded out. The halloween thing doesn't start for another day."
There's a moment of silence while some of them exchange looks before Thorin speaks, "You mentioned Kili and myself first. Surely that should be fine."
"Um..." You look between the two and tilt your head to the side thoughtfully, arms crossed over your chest. "Sure. But your hair is definitely going to stick out, Thorin."
He nods his head in understanding.
"And what about me?" Kili asks eagerly. It seems he's really excited about finally being able to leave your property.
"You're fine, I think. Am I taking both of you?" You inquire with furrowed eyebrows, walking a few steps forward.
"You might as well." Kili says with a big silly smile.
Well, you can't argue with that logic.
You shrug your shoulders and head up the stairs again, "Alright, go get changed into some of the clothes I gave you."
---
Once they're dressed in t-shirts and sweatpants (you didn't know their sizes so you got whatever would fit at the time) you observe them both with narrowed eyes while rubbing your chin.
"Hm... On a scale of 1 to 10, I give Kili a 9 and Thorin a 6." You say after a moment, turning to look at everyone else and get their opinions.
"What is the scale referring to?" Fili pipes up suddenly, looking up at you.
"How convincing they are."
"Why do I get a 6?" Thorin grumbles, looking at you pointedly.
"Your hair." You reply simply, walking over with a hair tie stretched between your fingers, "Hold still."
You gather his hair over his shoulders and pull it back, putting his hair through it and wrapping it around until it's nice and tight.
As soon as you're finished, you step around him and look to see if it's made a difference, and when you've determined that it's good, you smile, "Okay, now it's at least an 8." You turn towards Kili and ask, "Your hair is fine, right? Or do you want me to put it up?"
He doesn't say anything and neither does anyone else, and when the silence persists you raise an eyebrow, "Hello? Earth to Kili, I just asked you a question."
"Uh, no, you don't have to, thank you." He shakes his head and seems to come to some sort of realization since he starts to smile at his uncle in that big teasing grin you've, unfortunately, become accustomed to.
You nod your head and skip back over to the counter, swiping your keys off of it before heading to the front door.
"Come out whenever, I'm gonna get my car started."
Once you're out of the house some of the dwarves begin to laugh, and Kili pokes fun at his uncle, "Thorin, you have quite a red face, are you sure you can go?"
Thorin glares at his nephew and replies coldly, "She meant nothing by it."
"Right, but is that disappointment I hear?"
The glare he throws his nephew is so withering it could suck the life right out of a flower, but Kili is no flower, so he only laughs more.
"She offered to do yours too, you know." Fili adds when he begins to feel bad for his uncle.
Kili pauses his laughter and glares at his brother, "But she didn't do it."
"She would've."
"Oh hush, you're just upset that she didn't ask to do your hair." Kili shoots back, glaring at his brother.
"I am not, because unlike everyone else, I knew she meant naught by asking." He shoots back with a smirk.
Kili huffs indignantly and glares at his brother, saying no more as he heads out the door after you.
Thorin turns to everyone before following and states, "Try not to destroy anything while we are gone." His voice is firm and he waits until he gets nods from them all before leaving after you.
---
Once you're all in the car you put it into drive and go, turning up the radio so the car won't be completely filled with silence while you drive.
Occasionally, you'll glance at Thorin in the passenger seat or Kili in the back, and each time you do they're looking out the window at the passing scenery with awe.
"If you're impressed now, wait until we get into the big city." You comment suddenly, smiling to yourself while you watch the road ahead.
And when you do arrive in the city, they are impressed indeed.
The gasp that leaves Kili when you drive through the first big street draws a giggle from you, and when he presses his face against the window as you pull into the parking lot of the seasonal halloween store, your smile grows even bigger.
Even Thorin is impressed by all the wonderful things around, and when you turn off the car after parking you turn to look at them, "Thoughts so far?"
"It's wonderful." Kili breathes, looking at the bright, moving signs and huge stores all around.
"Yes, I don't believe I've ever seen anything so grand before." Thorin agrees, looking over at you with a smile of his own.
"Well if this impresses you, wait until we get inside the store. Try not to get scared."
---
The three of you eventually make it inside, and when you do they are in awe once more.
The seasonal store is dark with black painted walls and bright white florescent lights, and there are various halloween and horror things everywhere.
When you walk in there is one of those electronic jump-scare things, and while you were expecting it, the poor dears behind you weren't.
The witch thing pops out and cackles loudly, saying one of her many phrases, and as soon as she does both Kili and Thorin freak out. And when I say freak out, I mean 'pulled out some small weapons they decided to bring and screaming' freak out.
Luckily there is no one around at the moment, so you step between them and the witch and laugh nervously, "Put those away please. We're gonna get kicked out if anyone sees you with those."
They look between you and the electronic woman a few times before slowly putting their knives away and relaxing their stances.
"Thank you..."
"What is that?" Kili asks, glaring at the ugly jump-scare machine while you walk past it.
"It's a halloween decoration designed to scare people. And it seems like it worked too." You reply easily, looking back at them with a more mischievous smile.
Kili looks around slightly nervously and grumbles defensively, "I wasn't that scared... Uncles screams are what startled me."
"My screams? Kili, let's not lie now, clearly you were horrified." Thorin says disapprovingly, shaking his head.
"Aw, you guys are cute." You purr jokingly, waltzing up to the kids costumes isle.
They stop arguing after that.
You browse through the messy shelves quietly for a little while, trying to find the best ones, when you see a doggie in the cutest ghost costume.
A squeal leaves your lips when you see the cutie pie and you cup your cheeks as an adoring expression comes onto your face.
Without hesitation you hop over to the owner and ask excitedly, "Where did you get that?"
The man with the dog looked up quickly upon hearing your excited yelp and when he saw your exuberant form he smiled too, "I bought it a week ago here. They're near the back."
His answer fills you with joy, and you continue to stare at his pupper for a moment before he says, "You can pet her if you want, she doesn't bite."
He doesn't need to tell you twice.
You kneel down right away and scratch behind her ears, and her tail begins to wag wildly at the attention.
It seems that she likes you just as much, because she takes a seat and leans into you when you scratch her all over like you do with your dogs. It's at that moment when you begin to wonder if she'll fit in your purse.
Before you can finish your calculations and plans on stealing this mans dog you hear someone clear their throat and you realize then that you forgot all about Thorin and Kili.
You turn your head and see the two of them standing there with amused expressions on their faces.
Upon realization that they're watching you, and have been for a little while now, you jump to your feet and feel your face heat up. "I-If you make fun of me I'll leave both of you here." You threaten very unconvincingly, crossing your arms over your chest.
Kili starts to laugh but he doesn't say anything about it, looking at his uncle who also releases a few chuckles of his own.
You glance back at the man and see that he's looking at them, and you realize he probably thinks Kili's short stature is a little odd.
"U-Uh, thanks for letting me pet your dog!" You say quickly, heading back over to the two of them with a blush on your cheeks.
You turn back to the shelves of costumes and the man and his dog walk away, and once their gone you glare at the two of them half heartedly. "You guys are total meanies." There is faux bitterness in your voice when you speak as well, and it only brings more laughter from them.
"I only find it cute." Kili states, smiling good naturedly before continuing, "Every time you see an animal you get very excited."
"Cause I love animals."
"Yes, we can tell." Thorin muses, stepping up next to you to look at the spiderman mask in your hand.
You tap your foot against the ground a few times before putting the mask back.
A ghost costume for Bilbo; check.
That is all.
You literally don't have anything for anyone else, and honestly you're beginning to think that it's impo-
And then another idea hits you.
Class of middle/high-schoolers in a fantasy club. It's farfetched and barely believable, but most people won't say anything about it out of fear of being offensive, so it's perfect!
You don't have to buy them costumes at all (minus Bilbo), all you need is stuff to make them look less like dwarves and more like children pretending to be dwarves.
It sounds easier than it actually is, but you think you can pull it off. All you need is some netting, makeup, wigs, and nose and scar wav and you'll be set.
Once you get this idea you run away from the kids section with the ghost section and head toward the halloween makeup isle, seeking out the items mentioned previously without hesitation.
You find what you're looking for in minutes, and once you've got everything you zoom to the checkout since you're going to need to look up some tips on how to pull this off.
You're so excited you nearly forget to make sure Kili and Thorin are still with you, but once you see them you smile in relief and pay for everything.
Once you're all back in your car, Thorin asks, "I thought we were going to get masks?"
"Well, we were. But then I had an amazing idea consisting of pretending you're all students or something who invested in really expensive dwarf costumes. It's perfect, 'cause no one will ask and we'll get lots of compliments."
Thorin nods his head slowly and puts his belt on like you showed him, but before you go you turn and look at Kili expectantly.
The young dwarf doesn't say anything at first, but when your staring consists he asks slowly, "What...?"
"Put on your seatbelt."
There's more silence until he puts it on, raising an expectant eyebrow at you, "Is that better?"
"Much."

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. ; )
(Epilepsy Warning Ahead)
So, after completing CrossCode: A New Home a few months ago (which I meant to do a review of, but didn’t get around to it, sadly), I was thoroughly delighted by the continuation of the game’s story and the extra challenges included in it, both story-related and optional. That being said, I still think even Masahiro Sakurai would start crying after attempting some of those puzzles.
But putting all that to the side, I especially loved the fact that Lea and her “people,” shall we say, now had their own place to live, work, play, and (ahem) talk with one another. Searching for the hidden treasure chests in it was also a fun challenge -- one that turned out to be pretty easy after some exploration, in fact, which is one of my favorite things to find in any adventure game.
There was one thing I found strange about Lea’s new house, however. On the second floor is a big screen TV with a game console and stereo system (a gamer’s dream, in other words):
When you interact with the TV, you’ll discover that it only has one available setting, which I like to call “Super Rave Mode,” with music blaring from the speakers and color-changing lights flashing everywhere.
I couldn’t help but wonder what the reason for this could be. Is that how the stereo system was designed, is that just how Lea likes it, or is it something else? We’ll probably never know, but...I do have a theory.
It’s at least a possibility, wouldn’t you say? You know someone’s a true friend when they take the opportunity to punk you every now and then. X D
You’ll probably notice a few artistic flaws if you’ve studied drawing (if not, feel free to skip this part). For one thing, Lea appears to be much taller than the TV in the first two panels, so the next three panels make no sense unless her legs suddenly got a lot shorter. For another, her head seems a bit smaller in the third panel than in the others. Proportions are still not my strong suit, apparently, but hey, at least I was able to notice it, right?
The miniature panel inside the fourth panel a little hard to notice, too, but it was still worth doing anyway, I think. I always love it when comic artists get creative with their panels instead of making them the same every time, so I thought I’d try it out.
And strangely enough, those are all the flaws I can think of at the moment. How about that? X ) The tree in the sixth panel might have looked a little better if I hadn’t tried to draw its texture with the colored pencils, but...eh, why sweat the details?
Speaking of the sixth panel, you may notice one of my OCs hidden in it if you look closely enough.
He looks like a bubble with eyes, for reference.
There were a lot of details to figure out for this drawing (especially that last panel, which took me a few days to finish), but I had fun trying to get all of them right. I used the above snapshot of the second floor of Lea’s house for the first five panels, while Lea herself was made after the picture of her found on the game’s pause screen:
Her facial expression in the first panel came from her “awed” sprite,
the one in the third panel is a variation on her “happy” sprite,
and the on in the fifth panel is based on her “annoyed” sprite (which I’ve only seen when she talks to a very loud Shad).
I also used the picture of her seen on the file menu during the epilogue as a reference for her profile in the fourth panel.
And of course, good old Emilie was made after her “grinning” sprite, with a few wrinkles added to her forehead.
I just have to say, nobody grins like that girl. It’s not as adorable as Natsuki’s grin, maybe, but it’s still quite lovely.
And finally, the sixth panel was based on the area outside Lea’s house. Duplicating it was a pretty fun (if time-consuming) challenge.
I have since reached that silver chest on her roof in case you’re wondering. After a lot of exploring around, that is.
One more thing I should add: Much as I enjoyed drawing this and so many other things with pencils and paper, I’ve lately been considering making a transition to digital art from now on. It’s not that I’ve stopped enjoying traditional drawing (in fact, I’ll probably continue making it to some degree), but I’ve started noticing of how much time can be saved by choosing digital drawing instead -- no smudges, easily undoing mistakes, easy rotation, zooming, etc., so...I’m beginning to think that may just be the better option for me. That’s not a final decision, though, so I guess we’ll see how it plays out. If I can’t decide, maybe I’ll let you all take a vote on it. You’re my audience, after all, so you may as well have a say in it. ; )
In any case, farewell for now and thank you for indulging in my love and appreciation for CrossCode. Or as Lea would say, “Bye! Thanks!” She’s very good at being succinct like that. X )

hi! this is a question i've been asking all my favorite artists lately: how do you draw adrien's hair? any tips/tricks for beginners? thank you!
I’ve gotten asked this before, but I never was comfortable or consistent enough in drawing Adrien’s hair to answer it. I think I’m kind of in a place now where I can at least give it a shot, though!
I’m not perfect at drawing his hair by any means, but his hair is really hard to draw so if this tutorial can help people at least a little bit with The Struggle™ then I’ll try!
Disclaimer: This is not an official tutorial, and I do not claim to be an expert. This is just step by step how I draw his hair, but there is no correct way to do it. Whatever works for you is best!
Here’s a tutorial on how I draw Adrien’s hair (under cut):
So of course, getting a reference is always a good idea. Pull up a reference if you can (and if you’re not too lazy.... which, I get it, because I rarely actually look at references when I know I should).
First thing’s first, draw his head. Find out where his head is. His hair is going to sit on top of it, so it’s good to know where it is.
The easiest part of his hair, and what I always start with, is his little sideburns. Right in front of the ears, very simple to draw, don’t want to forget them, get ‘em out of the way first:
Adrien’s hair parts just a bit through his left (our right) eye. Make a few swooping pieces of his bangs coming off the shorter side. You can simplify it a bit— he has more chunks of hair there than what I actually drew, but I don’t want to stress so much about every individual chunk. Just getting the general shape of it is good enough.
The biggest part of Adrien’s front bangs are these... three, long, swooping pieces of hair. They honestly feel really awkward to draw, but it also really helps the drawing look like Adrien. Sometimes I simplify and only draw 2 of them, but here we’ll bite the bullet and draw all three of these suckers:
Those three pieces don’t cover the rest of his bangs! Make a little swooping line to just imply the rest of his bangs. We don’t have to worry about the details.
This is the part I hate the most. Lay out the shape of the top of Adrien’s hair as it parts on the top of his head. Cry as it looks awkward every time you try to draw it. Redraw it a thousand times as you get it right. It should line up about where his bangs part, too— some swooping shapes, like shown below. The part on his left (our right) will be smaller.
Don’t forget his cute little cowlick!
This part I feel like will vary a lot depending on your personal style. Adrien’s hair is pretty... spiky as you get lower. I personally like to draw it a bit floofier, but it’s up to you. I like to make the corners look a bit softer, generally avoiding super sharp edges if I can. A few round bits too for good measure, I dunno. I kind of just feel it out.
Well, it looks close enough to his hair, right? And you’re sick of drawing it, so it’s time to wrap it up!
Add some color for good measure...
Bam! There’s the boy!
If people find this helpful at all, I could do other angles or characters as well.

My thoughts on 03 and CoS
When I started watching 03, I came in with really high expectations. And I loved it!! Especially the first half - I loved the melancholy tone, the way they fleshed out the FMA world. That being said I have Opinions™️ which also includes some criticisms, as usual. Hearing things about 03 out of context definitely colored my expectations and perception of it. This is partly about the writing of 03, but partly about my own experience watching it.
I’ve been meaning to write and post this for about a month, but only got around to it just now, lol. Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen it.
What I liked
- The way it took the stuff from the manga and made a completely different story was AMAZING. Far after the storyline diverged, seeing influences from the mangahood storyline and how they were taken in a completely different direction was super cool.
- The tone!! 03 felt much more personal, much more melancholic. We really get to see how traumatic events like the fight with Barry the Chopper effect Edward, and we see that he’s really just a child. A child in the military. I know “03 shows Ed as a child soldier” has been talked about a lot and that aspect of 03 really lived up to what I heard about.
- I loved the fillers!! The adaptations of the bonus comics were delightful to watch and really fleshed out the Mustang squad in a way that Brotherhood didn’t. Roy quoting the Art of War during the Fullmetal vs Flame episode was super cool, ties well with my Xingese Roy headcanons, and I’ll probably write a whole meta on that later.
- Even though I have some beef with the ending, which I’ll get to in a bit, it felt really special to me, personally, to see the characters hopeful and happy even after going through so much loss. I really like the message that sometimes, we do fail. Sometimes, what we’re chasing after is never meant to be ours. But we can learn to get up, and keep going. We can let go of that lost heaven.
What I didn’t
- I heard the line “My sympathy will not be spent on soldiers” out of context. I guess I expected it to be some badass line from Scar about why his anger towards the Amestrian state is valid and not something he needs to apologize for.
- Instead, that line was delivered by Scar right before committing an atrocity - sacrificing a huge number of soldiers for a philosopher’s stone, and placing a huge burden on a 14 year old boy by making Al’s body that stone without his permission. And Scar, after all he’s been through, didn’t get a happy ending. It wasn’t some badass thing, it was painted as tragic. I was really disappointed about where that line ended up and I’ll probably write a whole separate post about the lost potential of that line.
- Ed’s admitting that he has racial bias didn’t live up to my expectations. One of my biggest criticisms of mangahood has been the narrative’s stance towards race: “I think we should ignore race and treat each other as equals!” A common response I got was, “03 doesn’t do that! They actually have Ed admit that he has racial bias!”
- When that scene actually happened, I was thinking, “is that it? Is there more?” And yes, much of that disappointment likely came from me setting way-too-high expectations for the race themes of a shonen anime from 2003. It was such a short moment and didn’t feel as climactic or important as it should have been.
- Roy Mustang. Roy Mustang. The narrative expects us to sympathize with him, to like him, but I found it very hard. In mangahood, Roy’s goal to become Fuhrer and change the country for the better, to help the Ishvalans and make sure that a genocide like that never happens again, is a huge part of the show. In 03, it’s hinted at. Roy talks about becoming Fuhrer in the miniskirt episode, and it’s hinted that he has good intentions and wants to help the Ishvalans. But it’s not considered important.
- And then he completely throws that away.
- Reading things from 03 out of context, I somehow got the impression that Roy was going to quit the military after realizing that he doesn’t want to work within the system anymore. And I was thinking “omg that’s so cool! 03 actually has Roy renounce his ambitions and leave the military, because it’s the best way to help the Ishvalans!”
- Nope. That coup he stages? It’s not out of anger at how the Amestrian state treats its people. It’s not to avenge Ishval. It’s to avenge Maes Hughes, Roy’s friend.
- Having Roy stay in the military, but give up his rank, almost feels like a halfway point between two good ideas: Climbing the ranks to change the country, or leaving because he doesn't want to uphold a corrupt system. Maybe they could've made it work, but I wish they grappled with the implications of that more.
- adklsfaksldfhjks I’m very angry about this and this probably also needs its own post.
- Things in the second half of the show just didn’t feel as fleshed out. In Mangahood we got some time to grapple with the fact that Amestris was created by Father to be sacrificed, to grapple with the implications of that. In 03, that revelation came so close to the end that we just didn’t have time. I was left with so many QUESTIONS about the worldbuilding and parts of the plot, especially after CoS, and they didn’t get answered. I feel like a lot of my problems with 03 would be solved if they added a few episodes. It’d give them time to slow down to add more details, or even just give us an episode or three of Backstory.
all my QUESTIONS:
- Details on Dante and Hohenheim controlling humanity behind the scenes?? They just. tell us that they destroyed entire civilizations like Xerxes.
- Where do Gluttony, Greed, etc come from? If they were created simply to serve Dante, does that mean they were all created after Hohenheim left her?
- Why was Greed imprisoned? Why does he refer to the other homunculi as his sworn enemies?
- Lust is described as the “third Lust.” Who were the other Lusts? Is each sin a position in Dante’s squad, a role that can be filled after the one holding it dies?
- Envy is 300 years old. What the hell were they doing for all that time? Much of their character is based off of resentment of Hohenheim for leaving them and Dante, but that happened extremely recently.
- Hohenheim mentions that alchemy is fueled by people’s deaths in the parallel world?? And it’s NEVER mentioned again??
- How does the portal work? Ed landed in 1910s London, then 1920s Germany. But the times match up in CoS, with the 2 year gap and everything.
- I didn’t understand where the opening flashback about the uranium bomb comes from. It’s implied that it happened in the time gap between Ed joining the military and the Liore arc, but iirc the guy with the bomb came from the other world. How did he get there? How come Ed and Al spend a couple years knowing that a parallel world exists but it’s never brought up?
- How did Ed meet Alfons and get involved in the rocket stuff?
- From one of the guys in the Thule society: “but Hohenheim’s sons are from Shamballa.” HOW DOES HE KNOW THAT?
aklsfhsdj that was long. Stay tuned for some more metas about 03, because your girl has Opinions.
