Happy Winter Solstice (Northern Hemisphere)
Happy Winter Solstice (Northern Hemisphere)
If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, today you can celebrate the winter solstice, the longest and darkest night of the year and the shortest day of the year. Celebrations of this day are among the oldest in human history, as today represents the day from which you have more daylight and also the beginning of the Winter season. So, let’s see how we can celebrate with some winter solstice…

Highlights of the Day - 21.06.2024
June Solstice is the highlight of today. Position of Earth in relation to the Sun during the June solstice.© timeanddate.com The June solstice marks a moment of celestial wonder as the Sun reaches its northernmost latitude, directly above the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere. This significant event heralds the beginning of longer, sun-filled days for the Northern Hemisphere, as it is…

Note
leap day is gods way of punishing me for my homosexuality with an extra day of winter
Alice: If He was punishing you specifically, we wouldn't all be experiencing this awful weather. Why couldn't they make June longer by a day whenever we have to readjust the calendar?

guys, hear me out: the bad kids are in the wrong timeline
in theory, the seven and junior year should be happening at the same time. we see gilear and arthur aguefort on the first day of school in the seven, but in junior year, they're suddenly gone. arthur said that time was going to be weird this year because he's traveling with ayda, so maybe something gets messed up and the bad kids end up in a fucked up timeline? and then we have the gilear devil thing with fig, and gilear suddenly having the confidence to propose to hallariel and he starts having good luck? plus there's the stuff happening with the winter solstice, aka the shortest day of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere at least; idk if spyre is flat or on a globe), which also seems to have a magical time significance?
idk i guess we'll find out

CHAMPIGNAC : A REVAMP DOWNTOWN PLACE
To celebrate the coming shortest night of the year ( which is June 21 in the northern hemisphere and June 23 night in Champignac ), we re-made the Downtown place of Champignac, aka Place Olivier Magnolia ;)
With summer fast approaching, Place Olivier Magnolia has been transformed into a must-visit spot for your Sims. Imagine strolling under the ancient olive trees, breathing in the sweet fragrance of magnolias in bloom. The square has been revamped to offer more space and comfort for your Sims ;)
This 26x26 community lot was already nice, but we wanted to render it more ... useful and attractive :) So we suppressed the unnecessary stairs, we kept 2 chess tables, some benches, the horseshoe court, the fountain we down grounded, and as seen in the pictures, we added community picnic tables, 1 or 2 bbq grills, lights and an open-air cinema/tv which may be watched, any time, night and day :)
With Bastille Day just around the corner, Place Olivier Magnolia is the perfect place to celebrate July 14th in Champignac. Relive the warm atmosphere of traditional village dances, where your Sims can dance the night away under string lights to festive music ( but do not forget to bring your own music or add music stuff into the lot )
As I still work on an unpopulated version of Champignac, there are no many Sims in the pictures ... I should take some new pictures of my true populated worlds in the future :D

In order to get the lot as it is, you should get :
ATS3 Little Campers Backdrop screen only : here
ATS3 String Lights : here
TheJim07 Romanesque Columns : here
Cyclonesue Scaffolding Steel Columns : here
Maybe you already got those items because we use them into almost all our Sims 3 Worlds :) if not, here they are ;)

Monday, May 29.
June is a month and it's coming.
What a time to be alive. It’s nearly June. And we want you, distinguished reader, to enter the best month of the year with all the little tidbits of June trivia you might possibly need:
June has the longest daylight hours of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere—in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the shortest day of the year. Idk. Planets, man).
June is one of only two months to have three (!) birthstones (greedy). They are Moonstone, Alexandrite, and pearl—which is not technically a stone at all, but here we are.
If you’re born in June, roses and honeysuckle are associated with your birth. Get a whiff of that.
For many indigenous folks, including Creek, Cherokee, Seminole, Yuchi, and Iroquois folks, June's strawberry moon brings about harvest and thanksgiving, as well as Green Corn Festivals (weather permitting).
The Anglo-Saxon word for June was Ærra-Liða, which is like, “first calm.” Mmh (✿◡‿◡)
The Romans believed it was a bad omen to marry in June. In English, this month is named after the goddess Juno, who is the Roman equivalent to Hera, mother of the gods.
June starts on a different weekday than any other month in the year? Why? Maths.
So. Time is fake. We’re whooshing ahead. We’re celebrating June early. Come get comfy, check out these baby animals and cool flowers. Also this month: check out your local queer artists, have some fun with some polls, tickle some frogs, and try to escape the grim out there. Stay safe and be kind, Tumblr <3

Happy Winter Solstice! The shortest day and longest night (if you live in the Northern Hemisphere)! Give yourself permission to claim your power! Light your white candles and allow the warm tender glow to fill every corner of your home. Don't eat too much during seasonal shifts --if anything at all. Just like nature is shifting so are you. Eating less or fasting helps you to support the shifts happening within you. Winter Solstice is a gestational time to dwell in the feminine void and prep your body to get pregnant with new visions. Let yourself sink down and rest into nature's parthenogenesis. Be the light in the darkest depths of winter. -India Ame'ye, Author

2023 December 22
183 Days in the Sun Image Credit & Copyright: José Zarcos Palma
Explanation: A single 183 day exposure with a pinhole camera and photographic paper resulted in this long-duration solargraph. Recorded from solstice to solstice, June 21 to December 21, in 2022, it follows the Sun's daily arcing path through planet Earth's skies from Mertola, Portugal. On June 21, the Sun's highest point and longest arc represents the longest day and the astronomical beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere. The solstice date with the fewest hours of daylight is at the beginning of winter in the north, corresponding to the Sun's shortest and lowest arc in the 2022 solargraph. For 2023, the northern winter solstice was on December 22 at 3:27 UTC. That's December 21 for North America time zones.

🌻🌞🌻 Blessed Litha to all that celebrate 🌻🌞🌻 Litha 2024
Themes: abundance, growth, masculine energy, love, magic
Also known as: Midsummer, Midsummer’s Eve, Gathering Day, St. John’s Day, St. John’s Eve, Summer Solstice, Alban Hefin, Feill-Sheathain
“Litha” is the name given to the Wiccan Sabbat celebrated at the Summer Solstice. This is the longest day and shortest night of the year, marking the pinnacle of the Sun’s power to fuel the growing season. From here on out, the Sun will set a little earlier each night until Yule, and so we recognize and give thanks for its warmth.
Though it’s typically celebrated on June 21st, the exact moment of the Summer Solstice varies from year to year. This is due to a slight misalignment between the Gregorian calendar and the actual rate of the Earth’s rotation around the Sun. The Solstice also occurs at differing local times, so depending on where you live, it may fall the day before or after the date listed on any given calendar. For this reason, a date range of June 20-22 is often cited in sources on the Wheel of the Year.
As the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky, the God is now in his full power, and the Goddess of the Earth is bringing forth the greatest abundance of the year. The crops are reaching their full maturity and the forests are bursting with lush growth. In just a few short weeks, the harvest season will begin, but for now we pause to celebrate the manifestation of what was planted in the early weeks of Spring. The warm sunlight is a welcome contrast to the cold and dark of Winter, and we bask in its comforts. There is a focus on the Element of Fire in honor of the Sun God, but recognition is also given to the Horned God of the forest and its wild animal life.
Wicca Sabbats
Ancient pagans celebrated the Solstice with torchlight processions and giant bonfires to ritually strengthen the Sun. Another tradition found among European cultures was centered on the need for balance between the Elements of Fire and Water—large wheels were set on fire and rolled downhill into creeks, rivers or lakes, perhaps as a charm against summertime drought. This is also the traditional time for gathering wild herbs for medicine and magic, as most are fully grown by Midsummer and the power of this particular day will add to their benefits. For this reason, Litha is known as Gathering Day in Wales.
To celebrate this Sabbat, you can decorate your altar with summer flowers, herbs and fruits, and summer colors like yellow, green and blue. This is a traditional time for rites of re-dedication to the God and Goddess, as well as divination related to love and romance. Keep at least one candle lit throughout the day to honor the Sun, and if possible hold your Litha rituals at noon, when the Sun is at its highest point in the sky. Have an outdoor picnic feast to bask in the warmth of the day, and eat fresh fruits and vegetables—ideally from a farmer’s market or harvested from your own garden. This is a good time for magic related to masculine energies and any situation that needs to be “fired up” in your life.
Litha was long known as Midsummer, an older name for the Solstice that emphasizes the actual course of the warmer months in the Northern Hemisphere. Summer was considered to begin around May 1st, when Beltane (or May Day) is celebrated, with June 21st marking the midpoint of the season. The name “Litha” is traced back to an old Anglo-Saxon word for the month of June, and came into use as a Wiccan name for this Sabbat in the second half of the 20th century. However, many Pagans continue to use the more traditional “Midsummer.”

Legends and myths about trees
Celtic beliefs in trees (26)
I for Idho (Yew) - December 21st Winter Solstice
“Death of a king in his waning 6 months - The Celtic Tree Calendar (Ref), the end of the beginning, the beginning of the end ...”
Colour: dark green; Star: Saturn; Gemstone: olivine; Gender: female; Metal: lead, Element: earth; Patron: Banba, Hecate; Symbols: resurrection, death + rebirth, eternity, path to meet ancestors + land of the soul
Today is the winter solstice, also called the hibernal solstice, the day in the northern hemisphere when the sun is at its lowest altitude in the south and day is shortest and night longest during the year (reversed in the southern hemisphere).
Yew is an evergreen tree with dark green leaves and red berries. The yew is a robust tree with a thick girth and an extremely long life. It is probably the longest lived of all trees.
As soon as the downward reaching branches reach the ground, the tree begins to grow strongly, as if it has been reborn as a new tree. The eldest living yew tree is in Europe is said to be the Fortingall Yew, in Perthshire, Scotland, and it has been estimated between 3000 to 9000 years old.
In addition, the yew's hollowed-out heartwood, especially when wet, looks like a flayed animal, and when cut it appears to bleed, so the yew is increasingly said to be a sacred tree. Yew sticks were believed to be able to divine the future, and yew sticks were used as 'writing pillars' to engrave the Ogham script, as they could be preserved almost forever.
As the druids believed the natural law of reincarnation, where the soul becomes reborn as another person, the yew was seen as a protector of the soul during the journey to the Otherworld. Some believe that the road to the Otherworld is shaded by rows of yew trees. Furthermore, the yew is said to stop any obstacles caused by evil spirits from the other world.
As a sacred 'tree of immortality', believed to protect and purify the dead, yews are often planted in cemeteries, many of which are as old as the church or much older.

(Notes after the poll)
In Arda, the world on which Middle-earth is a continent, the sun and moon are not natural phenomena. Rather, they are the very last fruit and flower respectively of the Two Trees, Laurelin and Telperion.
Quoting from Tolkien Gateway:
Laurelin was created by the Vala [gods] Yavanna and Nienna on the hill of Ezellohar [idk, just a hill] where she [the tree] shed their [the gods'] light on the realm of the Valar [gods] in the long years before the making of the Sun and Moon. Laurelin, the younger of the two [trees], flowered second and bloomed during the latter part of each Valian day. She was destroyed by Melkor [Sauron's boss], who used the giant spider spirit Ungoliant [Shelob's great-great grandmother] to his evil purpose during the theft of the Silmarils [shiny gems that caused a lot of problems], which caused the Darkening of Valinor [land of the gods]. Through the power of Nienna and Yavanna, though, Laurelin produced a single fiery fruit before she died. This golden fire was set in a vessel made by Aulë [another god] and his people, and steered into the sky by the Maia [demi-god] Arien, making the Sun.
These events took place quite some time before the world became round, which happened at the end of the Second Age. (Return of the King takes place during the end of the Third Age and the dawning of the Fourth Age.)
Meanwhile, here on Earth, winter solstice is the longest night of the year thanks to gravity.
Quoting from Wikipedia:
The winter solstice, also called the hibernal solstice, occurs when either of Earth's poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. This happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere (Northern and Southern). For that hemisphere, the winter solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, and when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky. Each polar region experiences continuous darkness or twilight around its winter solstice.
