Good Morning Miriam!

So, picture this, after you manage to escape this hoard of pirates who want you for who know what, you pass out in the middle of the sea, and when you wake up next, you find out a cute boy who you never met just made you a delicious breakfast of kipper (that's a way to cook a herring btw, not the dog), and said boy promises to protect you as soon as you tell him how you washed up on the beach! Can you say this is a dream come true or what? Anyways, this is when Pasquale and Miriam finally get to properly introduce each other; I might as well get exposition between the two characters out over a nice breakfast to make it special! I mean, I did something similar with Ness and Paula, where Ness gave Paula a burger when they first met in my EarthBound fan-novel, so I guess characters sharing food with each other to bond is just a trope I like :P.

Concept art and early designs for Daisy/Tratnćica and her friend Violet from my short film, The magical girl.

Daisy's design is really fun to draw and even now, months after I'm finished with the animation, I still find myself doodling her on the side of my notebook. Her hair was also fun to animate because it emotes alongside her and makes every shot look more dynamic.

BONUS: hypothetical designs for their school uniforms. The conversation she has with Violet originally happened at school, but I think the magical girl graveyard is a much more interesting setting for that conversation and creates a much more impactful image. Also saves me the time of drawing a bunch of background characters lmao

A Hard Day's Work

The life of a dockworker, or longshoreman for us 'mericans, is an exhausting career. Just like making this illustration, 'cus holy lord, this has 23 layers. The good thing is I really get to tell a story though a piece like this: Pasquale (our hero, and the boy resting on the barrel) just finished another long day of loading and unloading cargo, and he's just about ready to go back home. Little does he know about the surprise he'll encounter as he's about to head home... Also, if anyone gets the name of the tramp steamer in the background, I'll give you a big ol' cookie!

Some recent sketches of my ocs and concepts for some kind of short film I’ve been brainstorming

Character designs I made for the clip we've done with my friends. The designs are based on our group's D&D characters. They already had concepts with distinct features, so my job was to stylize the heck out of them. I also made an animatic, colored the first two backgrounds, and worked on montage, compositing, and sound (for the first time in my life — gosh, was it hard).

Our Story

This project also helps push us artistically by exploring outside our default styles. We want to give the film a distinct stylized approach that reminds us of stop motion and claymation films by using stepped animation and art materials for textures. We’re creating a mini world for our group of girls to have a thrilling snow day in.

Many of us want to keep our animation muscles strong after graduation! This film helps us keep those muscles in shape by working in a style many of us have not yet experimented with before. Being able to adapt to different animation styles is crucial in today’s animation industry as many films begin to branch out from the typical CGI style. This project will not only allow our team to have more work in their portfolio but also to diversify it!
