An incredible, hand-forged, custom-made steel door and gate grace a brownstone on Manhattan's Lower West Side. The design draws inspiration from the 1902 French short film "A Trip to the Moon" by director Georges Méliès, itself inspired by Jules Verne's 1865 novel "From the Earth to the Moon."

I just watched Le Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip To The Moon) from 1902, and I can't help but be a little awestruck by that.

This 15 or so minutes of film was filmed over 100 years ago. Was hand painted, frame by frame. These people were inventing the concept of movies as they went.

And here I am, 122 years later, laying in bed watching it on my phone. How insane is that?
