YEAH oh my god it's a comedy first and foremost but i guess people advertise it as well. the obvious. but it's very funny that video is only like 20% of the things that have made me laugh out loud and i can still rewatch it rn and laugh which i think is beautiful and also telling they also improv a lot which always makes things 10x funnier

Had a thought thanks to @shopcat

Mary: I hate the ocean. I said it just the other day. Stede: What? When? Mary: ...when we were standing beside the fucking ocean!

It got me thinking about the other ways we see Mary talking to him both in the flashbacks and when Stede returns to Bridgetown and how she uses implicit and avoidant language with a sprinkle of passive aggression.

"And what about your favourite pig?" - showing her displeasure when Stede inserts himself into the conversation with the children

"Why on earth would we want to do that?" - inwardly screaming WTF WTF WTF WTF over the ship

"I think I'll keep it - it adds an air of mystery" - pretty much telling him 'I would rather be the widow Bonnet than married to you'

"The showing's at 6. I won't be home for dinner" - You're not invited and don't wait up.

We know Stede has real trouble with recognising tone or implication and takes things literally when they are hyperbole or exaggeration and this has clearly been a big part of the friction in his marriage with Mary, who behaves according to common social conventions, because she has to.

The significant thing is that when she is direct and blunt towards him, he gets the message immediately. We see it when she tells him she doesn't want to do the boat thing, when she tells him she's not upsetting her life that she's made for him and when she calls him out for running away to sea.

It got me wondering about exactly how she phrased the hating the ocean thing, because either he wasn't listening at all to her (very possible) or they were standing by the ocean and he was babbling excitedly about it and she made some passive comment about not liking it, which he didn't catch at all.

i was tagged by @timothylawrence to describe how i see myself ^_^

for character i do think irl i come off as both a very scattered but still earnest/dedicated person as much as i would like to be like a character with a ‘cooler’ facade lol so i feel like phoenix wright ace attorney is the best comparison i can think of … clothes wise i dont dress that elaborately and i definitely dont try to have like an aesthetic but i mostly wear a lot of muted or dark colors and similar things so ive had other ppl tell me it comes off as . dark academia 😔 or otherwise ‘elegant’ whatever that means … my favorite object is the tote bag my girlfriend made for me !!!!! ^_^

i dont really have a favorite place per se but i loved zion national park when i went and i always want to visit there again … favorite animal used to be wolves and meerkats but jubilee is my favorite individual animal now so cats win by default . realizing i lack a lot of defined favorites rn but i just put a song ive been listening to on the way to work recently lol

my job is admin assistant and i am making this post on the clock 👍 though that is definitely not my long term goal job wise 💔 again couldnt think of a singular favorite food but i want smoked salmon fried egg avocado sandwich so bad rn so . thats my choice .. and dark green is actually my favorite color lol
