I don't think it would be possible to write a developed Jaune/Weiss romance in any way (that's not a red herring as anon was putting forward, that's straight up developed non-endgame romance) which precipitates Jaune/Cinder. That is absurd. That would not happen. It's going to be one or the other, but as it is, even if you make the case for Weiss' feelings (he's cute? But he's not 'mature' anymore) this past volume you caaaaaaaaan't for Jaune which is what augments the Blake/Sun reading.

I think they would be mad if they canonised the Blake/Sun equivalent in this scenario and then pulled a Blake/Yang after definably, one hundred percent reciprocated feelings/romantic development. That's just not possible. They shipbaited Blake/Sun, but they never outright confirmed it (even with 'meeting the family' trope and everything).

Really I think what's telling is that most people already think Jaune/Weiss is the foregone conclusion when it's the most tonally ugly thing ever lolll replacement goldfish romance, thanks Pyrrha for warming her spot now she's finally noticed Jaune isn't an idiot. So the question is whether they develop that in a real way (with Jaune over the next volume in particular) or not.

Of course if you ask me - if Knightfall is meant to be a narrative twist - they're not counting on people expecting that.

The angle I want to emphasise with, when I discuss hypothetical canonical developments which displeases me, is not that they are unlikely on the basis that I don't like them; it's that they alter the canon as I read it, and are both unlikely on textual terms, but potentially offer a new reading which recontextualises the story. Saying that it's impossible because I dislike it is exactly the sort of nonsense approach that people who don't like Cinder/redemption/Knightfall use. It's not about whether you like it or not.

I think what's probably damning is that Jaune/Weiss can happen on terms which are thoughtless in contrast to the other romances because they didn't fully consider the implications of it (especially in respect to Ozlem) and a throwaway joke romance is always possible. I have devil advocated the Hell out of this (even for throwaway jokes/shipbaitingish stuff serving a narrative purpose) but the possibility is always there and that's uncomfortable.

New developments can change reading of the canon as well.

But the point of this post is that my dislike ultimately comes secondary, and my appreciation itself generally comes from a textual position. If the text isn't there, my regard for it isn't. I understand that sometimes people get angry at development in storytelling which conflicts with their vision, but ultimately a work-in-progress hasn't fully affirmed its ideas. It's evolving. Meaning that the intentions could've always been there, and I just didn't see it.

I can’t take criticism on Mel seriously because most of it is done by jayviks who say she’s pretty and call it a day then act like they love her😭. Like sorry, I’m not taking you seriously when your account is filled with only jayvik and you only talk about Mel to objectify her and seem like you don’t hate “the female character that gets in the way” that’s simply not enough. A lot of these hardcore “Mel is a manipulator” people are very obviously biased lmfao. “Jayce dumped her” except that never happened? They talked and then he left and fucking died lol, one important thing to remember is that these are CHARACTERS and there is writing behind them. What I’m saying is that they were handled poorly by the writers and they never actually “broke up” or should I say he never “dumped her🤓” they just.. had a thoughtful conversation and it was never brought up again. I feel like yall only say he “dumped her” so it fits the shitty narrative that Jayce dumped Mel for Viktor which is NOT true and literally never will be. You guys literally call her an “independent black woman who doesn’t need a man” except in different wording to make her seem unlovable. Yes, she doesn’t need a man but she WANTS a man. Stop acting like you actually want her to be independent, you just want to get her out of the way but also still seem like you’re an “”ally””.
