Yeah, go Kana! Make sure that someone keeps a watch of Void and Kokichi!
Tumblr media
...And that is the situation.
----------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
I KNEW those Voids were up to no good!
Tumblr media
I swear if I get my hands on them...
Kana: Please don't do anything drastic Otori. We are just letting you know because we need ideas how to deal with them and their Divine Luck.
Tumblr media
Right...that is tricky but the good news is their luck is on its last legs so if you can seperate them...anyone with above average luck could deal with them.
Kana: Even Kazuki could?
Tumblr media
Yep even him!
Kana: ...I see. Anyway how is the tree coming along?
Tumblr media
...*Teruya looks over at the tree*
Tumblr media
Erm...does this go here?
Tumblr media
Er...Big Bro...do you even KNOW how to decorate a tree?
Tumblr media
Of course I do Yuki! I've done it in the past...
Tumblr media
I-it's just these lights are so high tech and I'm not used to them.
Tumblr media
They aren't THAT complicated, c'mon let me help out.
Tumblr media
I...think Shinji is struggling so I might need to help him.
Kana: I see, in that case best wishes for your tree to be a success.
Tumblr media
Don't worry Ise it will!
--------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Does he want to die?
Kana: That is more or less the reaction I expected from you Harukawa.
Tumblr media
And he's teamed up with the Voids? That isn't good...I get so much grief from Yomiuri.
Kana: Why, what did you do to him?
Tumblr media
I'm sure you are aware that Poi's OCs are banned from here...but in ASOOT me and my classmates are the descendents of the characters there...and I just so happen to have Masa Esumi as my grandmother...and I don't need to say anymore then that, as you can already guess why Yomiuri never gives me a break.
Kana: ....You aren't even a reporter Harukawa, and he STILL doesn't let you rest?
Tumblr media
No he doesn't so I don't have a lot of love for him.
Kana: I'm sorry to hear that, but any tips on dealing with Ouma?
Tumblr media
He's a little shit, but he's mostly all bark and no bite, if you threaten violence on him he quickly caves and backs away.
Tumblr media
Above all else, keep a cool head as Kokichi is very good at pushing people's buttons, and he will not hesitate to get a rise out of you.
Tumblr media
If need be, myself or Miu could help with whatever plan you have to keep him and the Voids away since we can handle him easily.
Kana: In that case maybe alongside a luckster stand guard outside of Review Anon's office door?
Tumblr media
That's not bad of a idea, especially since Miu can set up noise cancellation devices so even if I'm strangling them, the noise won't alert Review Anon.
Kana: ...Please don't do that...you might alert the penguins.
Tumblr media
Oh relax it was only a joke, but still its a idea to consider.

6 for Shinobi
Send me Prompts!
Thanks for the ask!
Krakoa 2024
Shinobi peered out around the tree he’d been hiding behind. The coast was clear. He stepped out.
“Hey! Wait up!” A voice behind him rang out.
He turned to see an unfamiliar face.
“Did we win? Did they beat Apocalypse?”
“Who the hell are you?” Shinobi replied.
The man’s face fell. He looked exasperated for a second then he seemed to just give up.
“Xabi,” he said. “And fuck you.”
Shinobi frowned as he watched the stranger storm off into the jungle. Whatever. Damn Krakoa and the weirdos who lived in it. The sooner he was out of here the better.
He headed towards the beach, where the X-Men and their buddies had been fighting. He’d smartly run away from all that, of course.
He spotted Emma and headed towards her to find out what had happened, if they could leave now.
“Everything alright?” He asked.
“And you are?” She replied with her characteristic snootiness.
On a better day, in a better mood, Shinobi would have fired back with some shade of his own but he really didn’t have it in him. He rolled his eyes and stormed off towards the nearest gate. Get out of here as soon as he could, yeah that seemed like a good plan.
He saw Christian a little way off talking to Bobby. Shinobi waved at him and got a blank expression in response. Well, that was humiliating.
He walked away.
3 Weeks Later
Shinobi was woken up by a hammering at his door. He ignored it, but it didn’t stop. That seemed unfair.
He dragged himself out of bed and staggered towards the door of his apartment, tangling his way into a robe on the way.
When he opened it, he had a split second to take in a headfull of blond hair before he was ambushed by an Australian arsonist.
“Let go of me,” he spluttered into St. John’s shoulder.
“Sorry, sorry,” St. John said, easing off the hug. “I’m so glad you’re okay.”
“... I’m fine? Shinobi was confused.
“We were so worried,” St. John explained. “After Krakoa-”
“After Krakoa ended, I’ve had the best three weeks of my life,” Shinobi interrupted. “No X-Men, no Hellfire club. It’s been fantastic.”
St. John stared at him.
“Shinji, you’ve been wiped from everyone’s memories for the last three weeks.”
“What?”
“You were standing next to some guy - can’t remember who - when they were fighting Apocalypse. Someone’s telepathy interacted with his powers and accidentally deleted you. Emma only just figured it out and undid it.”
Shinobi stared at him, then thought about it. No one had contacted him. His dad, Harry, Emma and the others had all been ignoring him. It made sense.
“Well, tell her to change it back!"

❝ Ugh. Ya jus' had to put me to work, ❞ complains the Arrancar with the nebulous role, not quite an Espada but very much around nonetheless, doing whatever Aizen tells him to────Shinji, as he is known. He sighs, drops his head back onto the wall he's leaning against with a soft bonk. ❝ Now 'm gonna hafta go out an' find a new candidate that can take Nelliel's spot; Vasto Lordes as powerful as her don't exactly grow on trees 'round here. ❞ [[hope this is okay! o/]]
Nnoitra was OVER THE MOON. He had not felt this good in YEARS. Nelliel was FUCKING GONE. The weight that had been lifted off his shoulders from not having her around, constantly following him, criticising him at every turn... It was incredible. He had not imagined it was even possible for him to feel this good. He felt so light. So light. So, when Shinji uttered a complaint, all Nnoitra could do was laugh. Nnoitra liked Shinji. For their similar looks, he supposed. There was a sort of unspoken kinship.
Tumblr media
❝ I'mma go with ya. ~ ❞ Nnoitra suggested ( more like he invited himself a long, not caring if Shinji wanted him there or not ). ❝ Then I can test 'em out right away. If ya bring another bitch like Nelliel, I'mma just kill her anyway. ❞ He was very willing to help out when he was in THIS good a mood. Absolutely nothing could bring him down now.

Hello cookie, congratulations on 700! For the event, can I plz ask for domestic headcanons for the bleach captains? If not that's ok! Thank you!
Of course! Enjoy!
Shunsui Kyouraku
Tumblr media
Shunsui is at the age where he no longer plays around in a relationship. He's in it until the end, or not at all. He insists on open an honest communication and on being able to talk differences out like adults instead of screaming at each other like two stubborn teenagers.
He will do pretty much anything you ask him to do in the house. Captain or not, you shouldn't be the only one keeping your house clean and organized.
Waking up with a bad mood when living together with Shunsui is impossible. He prefers to have you in his arms when going to sleep, and he will hold on to you throughout the night. When he wakes up, he'll stay as still as possible until you wake up. Then it's time for morning kisses and cuddles.
Shunsui enjoys stargazing with you in the garden, accompanied by a nice bottle of sake and some snacks. He'll have his arms around you, or even have you sitting on his lap if you're comfortable with that, just so he can comfortably hug you and still watch the stars.
Juushiro Ukitake
Tumblr media
Due to his illness, Juushiro can't do all that much in the house on bad days. On good days though, he likes to take the opportunity to cook for you. He enjoys is and is very good at making typical home-food. Nothing fancy or exotic, but the kind of things that are nutritious and make you feel happy.
Juushiro enjoys being near you more than anything. It doesn't matter if you two are doing different things in the same room, as long as you are near him and sometimes look up to smile at him, he will be happy. This is why he insists on getting a house with an open kitchen.
He also likes to decorate the house with lots of potted plants. Flowers to brighten up the room, some herbs for in the kitchen to cook with, and some bonsai trees for him to occupy himself with on days when he can't leave his bed.
He really enjoys you combing his hair, and if possible, he will gladly return the favour. Ideally, he'll sit in front of a big mirror when you do so, so he can look you in the eyes though the mirror as he talks to you. You can style his hair pretty much anyway you want.
Bakuya Kuchiki
Tumblr media
Byakuya does what he can to be a good boyfriend/husband, but he is and will always be a noble. Things like housework is done by the servants, not by him. This counts for you too, of course. You won't need to lift a finger. He won't really understand if you want to do certain things in the house anyway (be it for the sake of control or just because you like something), but he'll let you.
Well-taught as he is, Byakuya wouldn’t be able to cook a meal if his life depended on it. He never learned how to cook, and he has no intention of learning it either.
Despite his busy schedule, he tries to have dinner with you every night. It’s not always possible, and sometimes when it is he has to go back to finish work afterwards, but he wants to make some time for you every day.
He will often get you little gifts. Flowers, chocolates, jewellery
 Sometimes because he saw them and thought of you, sometimes just because he wanted to spoil you a little. Whenever he has something to apologise for, like for example not being able to make it to dinner with you, he gets you something as well.
Unohana, Shinji, Yoruichi, Urahara, Toshiro, Soi-Fohn and Kenpachi below the cut!
Retsu Unohana
Tumblr media
Retsu's house is full of plants, and it wouldn't be complete without a garden as well. Most plants that she grows have some kind of medicinal properties, or can be used to make a nice, calming cup of tea. Teatime is a must, and if the weather allows it, she prefers to have it in her garden.
The plants are pretty much the only bright colours in the house. Aside from those, everything is in soft colours so the plants really pop out. There's also very little dark colours in the house, she prefers everything to be light. Big windows/windows that cover a complete wall are a must.
Retsu insists on no shoes in the house. They are left at the door and changed for indoor slippers or socks. No. Dirty. Shoes. In. The. House.
Marriage is no big deal for Retsu. If you want to get married, she'll be on board, but if you don't want to, she's just as fine with that as well. She appreciates the symbolism but at the end of the day, that's all marriage is. She doesn't need a piece of paper to tell people that she loves you and that she wants to spend the rest of her life with you.
Shinji Hirako
Tumblr media
Shinji loves teasing you and once you live in the same house, that just gets worse. His terribly cheesy sense of humor is also still a daily occurrence. Yes, even when you're in a bad mood. Especially when you're in a bad mood.
Shinji is very lazy when it comes to his household. He'll make sure it's clean enough to not get sick from living in his own trash and dirt, but he'll push his chores off a lot and he'll leave his stuff lying around throughout the house. If you're a person who likes a clean and/or tidy house, you'll either have to kick his ass or clean up after him.
Surprise kisses. They happen a lot in general, just when he feels like it, but especially when you're in a video chat. He thinks it's hilarious to have your friends/family/co-workers think you have a perfect and loving boyfriend/husband, while he's actually a cheeky little bastard.
He leaves little notes throughout the house when he leaves. Some are sweet, some are jokes. He'll put them in the fridge, on the toilet, inside the shower, on his pillow,
 anywhere he knows you'll come.
Yoruichi Shihoin
Tumblr media
There is one night of the week dedicated to movie night and takeout. Both the eating and watching the movie will be done in bed. No, this is not up for debate. Lazy movie nights in bed are a must.
Be prepared for this woman wearing little to no clothes when she's home. She doesn't give a damn if people see her naked or not, and you're living together anyway, who cares if she's naked? Clothes are for going outside and for when visitors come over.
She loves taking baths or showers together as well, and not (necessarily) in a suggestive way. It's just a nice way to relax together, ‘and it saves water, right? *wink wink*’
She's actually a pretty good cook, at least when it comes to comfort food. When either of you are in a bad mood she'll step into the kitchen and make some of the best comfort food you've ever had. Which will then, of course, be eaten on the couch or in bed, in front of the tv, with a comfort movie.
Her favourite movies are comedies and romcoms. Anything that'll give her a good laugh is fine.
Kisuke Urahara
Tumblr media
Another very laid-back person to live with. There is no rush at all when living with this man, with anything. He's the type of person to be at least a little late to every party or meeting because he just wanted to take his time and get ready in a relaxed way.
Don't let him take care of plants. He is the worst plant dad and they will die. Only cacti survive, and even those will struggle to do so.
Kisuke moves around in his sleep a lot and will steal the covers. A good way to remedy this is to use his chest as a pillow, he'll barely move at all then. Does the pressure on his chest really keep him still, or did he move around a lot on purpose as an excuse to get to you cuddle up to him at night? You will never know.
This man is very clingy. It doesn't matter what you're doing, he wants to have his arms around you. You're cooking? His arms are around your waist. You're trying to clean up? Good luck. His favourite moment is when you're both watching tv though. He'll pull you as close to possible to cuddle up on the couch.
Toshiro Hitsugaya
Tumblr media
Toshiro has the windows open all-year round in his bedroom. Even when it is freezing outside, he'll want to open the windows for some fresh air as he sleeps, so he doesn't wake up in that stuffy sleep air that gets stuck in bedrooms. This does give a great excuse for cuddling while sleeping though.
He'll get you flowers every week, on the same day. It's a habit, one he doesn't want to miss. It's his way of reminding you that he cares, even though he's usually very busy with his work as a captain.
He'll agree a schedule with you to do chores in the house, just to make sure it all gets done and nothing gets forgotten. Of course, he helps in the house as well.
If you're not a fighter, Toshiro will want a dog in the house to protect you. Toshiro is very good at training dogs, as he is already used to being a leader and giving orders, and this dog will be the sweetest thing until either you or him give it the command to attack. He really counts on the dog to protect you when he cannot.
Soi-Fohn
Tumblr media
Soi-Fohn will decorate her home in a minimalistic way. The colours don't jump out at you and there is just enough decoration to make it feel homely without having trinkets and pictures all over the place. Her home basically radiates calm and is so clean you'd almost wonder if she cleaned every day.
She sleeps with a lot of blankets. During the night she will want to say warm and she'll get closer to any source of warmth, which usually is you.
You need but say the word and Soi-Fohn will help you out with whatever she can in the house. Grocery shopping, the dishes, the laundry,
 you name it. She will also start doing things without saying it if she notices you are a little overwhelmed.
She REALLY wants a cat. She loves the little creatures and has always wanted one of her own, but due to her often being away from home for extended periods of time, she never got one. If you've got a job that allows you to go home every day, she'll definitely bring it up.
Of het days off, she likes to cook something for you. She's actually a pretty good cook, though she rarely has the time to prepare something special for you.
Kenpachi Zaraki
Tumblr media
Kenpachi is oddly clingy when you're home. He loves you, so he wants to be around you. Preferably have an arm around you. He's not shy about admitting it either. Why should he be? He wants to hold you. He's your boyfriend/husband. It's only normal.
He is the easiest guy ever to cook for. As long as you have made it, Kenpachi will eat about anything. Doesn't matter if you burnt it a little, doesn't matter if it's something he usually doesn't like. If you made it, he will eat it.
His favourite food is BBQ though, and when you eat BBQ he's the one making it. It's about the only thing he can cook, but that meat is prepared perfectly. He'll wear an apron will some stupid BBQ-related pun on it whenever he's doing so.
Kenpachi needs a dog in the house to play with, to get rid of that excess energy of his. It's likely a breed that's generally seen as dangerous, like a Pitbull. The dog is the absolute sweetest thing though, wouldn't harm a fly, and it loves playing fetch.
Kenpachi lets his dog sleep on his bed, which will cause some funny moments while trying to cuddle because the dog wants in on the affection too.

Note
Before he passed out, Hirako Shinji considered the possibility that he would not wake up. He had watched this thing grow inside Sousuke; a heavier shadow around his eyes, or a darker, muskier scent about his nape. He had always recognized a predator, no matter how soft and cuddly their cub. But at some point, too soon, he had under him a full grown wolf. He had expected blood lust. He expected something darker and feral under the obedient guise. He expected those teeth and claws to turn... any day now. Any day...
Or perhaps it had already happened.
When he woke, and his eyes focused on the smudge of red delicately split upon the slices of apple... the first thing he thought of was how dangerous. How dangerous it was for beasts to reach maturity, for it to become aware of the young, for it to start wanting to lead.
He knew Sousuke made decisions without him. He knew Sousuke followed him when he wasn't invited, poked around where he shouldn't, and asked questions that were better left unsaid. He scolded some, allowed some, and pretended to be blind to some -- an imprecise game to setting out a fishing line, waiting for it to snag on something; waiting for Sousuke to slip up, and show Shinji what he was made of.
Then came Gin. Ichimaru Gin, the prodigy. A blip of disturbance on the water, shaking loose the wire that had been wrung tighter and tighter between them. Shinji had to admit that he liked new blood, that every quarter when new recruits streamed in, he couldn't help but feel the excitement in his bones like cherry blossoms. He remembered bringing a whole branch of plum tree blossoms to Sousuke in one of these elated moods, as March was just giving way to April, and the newly posted assignments for young Shinigami made him want to forget whatever disagreement there had been between him and Sousuke. He could even forget, for a second, his vigilance; pretended for just one moment that all was well in the Fifth, that Aizen Sousuke was his trusted fukutaichou, that they would go on to lead and nurture their squad members as an example of a fine-tuned union...
Until the red shattered such idle illusion. The red came always too soon he could dream of the plum blossoms blown off the treetop by a gust of angry wind before the cherry blossoms could come in, landing in a pool of still water turning it into blood.
He should've said something then. When he was informed that their (former) Third seat had been removed in a trial of combat after attacking their new recruit, in what was possibly a fit of jealousy or arrogance. He knew then. When he looked into Sousuke's face -- his oh so very dutiful fukutaichou with sharp razor teeth hiding under his softly outlined face -- he knew that the dead man's fate was sealed too long ago, on the very day his hand touched the molten sunlight of Shinji's hair. Such blatant and lazy infraction, he could've easily handled it himself. And he did. But not soon enough before Aizen Sousuke could catch a glimpse of the offense. So a man's fate was sealed. He died never knowing that Shinji likely saved his life on that day many moons ago. Yet such rescue could only be temporary, and every day afterwards was borrowed time for the man until...
He should've said something. Shinji remembered his fingers tensed when he was asked to weigh in on the legality of the combat. He could've said something then... And yet. Doing so would've likely implicated Gin. At the time he could only imagine the new recruit being an ill-fated pawn in Aizen's evolving game of chess. How certain was he anyway? What evidence did he have of Aizen's culpability? What could he prove? Was it worth it to drag the kid into this whirlwind of their cat and mouse, fox and hound...?
So his fists relaxed. So he chose silence. So he chose regret.
But not yet. Not until. And not for a few more years.
"What time is it...?" Time was yet fluid now, hadn't solidified into this cutting thing to flay them to the bones. He sat up, wincing at the muscle tension in his abdomen. "Yer not spending yer hours on the clock just sittin' here cuttin' fruits fer me..."
He looked at the red bunnies coming into shape in Aizen Sousuke's hands. Such random and seemingly childish thing to do for his smart, handsome, upstanding fukutaichou. He remembered the last moment before he lost consciousness, looking into those burgundy eyes... Sousuke caught him, then?
"Ya didn't ditch Gin with th' whole Division just fer this, did'cha? Or is it an excuse to show off to th' cute ladies at the Fourth~?" He picked up a slice, resting the bunny on his palm carefully. The thinly sliced red peel felt fragile between his fingers. The fruit itself was cold, but something of it felt warm. Perhaps it was the brush with death, or the weakness after mortal injury... Hirako Shinji found his conviction wavered in the small gesture of some decorated healthy snacks. He had watched these changes happening in Aizen Sousuke, something dark and somber expanding like his growing shoulders, of which Shinji was ever wary. But then there was this. These, small, bright and joyous things like the golden flesh peeking out from under the sliced up peel -- fragrant and full of light and promise.
Had he been wrong about Sousuke? Had it truly been an unexpected and reckless dare that led to the fatal encounter between his former and current Third seat? Was Sousuke's nonchalance not justified? Had Sousuke's rage, after all, not been to protect him? Had Sousuke not saved him when he had the perfect chance to leave him for dead? Did Sousuke not catch him when it counted?
Could he had been wrong about Aizen Sousuke?
"I feel fine. Don't worry yer pretty lil' head 'bout me." He reached over, putting his apple free hand on top of the brunette's head and gave it a light ruffle. Hirako Shinji popped the slice of bunny-shaped apple into his mouth. The skin broke crisply under his teeth; sweet, tender flavor coated his tongue like honey. " -- Ya caught me, didn't ya."
How he wished he could be wrong.
ask prior
Tumblr media
the possibility of shinji not waking again had been there, it was true. he had not been awake to see it, to see those eyes of melting brown sharpen for just a second as aizen's hand had hovered over his throat as if debating tearing it out. for just that moment, that one instance, aizen had weighed that within himself. he was not a man unfamiliar with murder but what held his hand was something else; something that could have been named sentimentality. or, perhaps, another emotion which had begun to pall within him, growing twisted and darkened from the lack of what he wished for ever so much. darkness had been creeping in around the edges for a long time now, a darkness birthed from his growing desperation at the understanding that he could not, in any capacity, manage to make this man let his walls down and LET HIM IN.
it had grown galling, this confinement, a thing which had made him feel more and more the need to try and break those walls down. patient chipping at them had not done as well and he had grown bolder these last few years, bolder in many ways. it was not always his wrists that wore those imprints now. but still he would allow the shackles of those bruises to weigh him down, keep him there, hold him simply by their weight. if he rubbed at them from time to time when no one was looking, then that was alright.
he had managed this long but nearly a hundred years with no change no matter what he did -- ah, how it tore at aizen in its own way. did hirako shinji remain willfully indifferent to what his neglect of aizen was doing to the younger man?
yet -- it had changed, recently, in recent months. aizen had changed.
the change could be pinpointed to a singular source; the new third seat of the gobantai whom aizen had willingly taken under his wing. a youth by the name of ichimaru gin, a child who had wrecked all of the previous records of the academy in how fast he had gone through the requisite six years of curriculum in but twelve months. an amazing thing, perhaps alarming to some. aizen had been quiet on his own time there, had halved it, but there had been the war time efforts as well. no one had finished a full six years in his time, as far as he thought of it. how many of those classmates still lived? he didn't know. he had no idea of who remained but that did not matter for a new source of interest had come into his life. a child who aizen would smile at when they three filled the office, would praise his quick wit and sharp observations. as if perhaps he was not a predator after all. whatever shinji thought, one thing was clear; aizen had become fond of this young man who'd stormed into their division not so very long ago.
there was something about their new third seat that called to aizen, an understanding between the two of them that went unspoken: rukongai's survivors always understood one another. shinji would not understand that sensation and that feeling coming as he did from a family established within the seireitei itself. how could he ever hope to understand what aizen and gin were able to comprehend about one another in that unspoken way. the rukongai's mark was strong, both of them bearing those marks of the rattle-bone fight for survival. how could the blonde ever know what it was like to have to fight tooth and nail to survive in the nastier districts of the rukongai? aizen had understood when he'd heard the number; sixty-fourth. he had but only recently spoken of the one he had come from to gin. an eightieth. a miracle that he had survived an eightieth, wasn't it? he hadn't said that but he knew gin would understand. why wouldn't he? they understood one another and they knew the laws of that savage place. the weak are protected or the weak are killed; there is no other way for it to be.
they understood one another and there was more than that to it as well, at least on aizen's behalf. he had never understood what had been missing. not until this boy had arrived at the fifth. oh, yes -- kaname knew that he wasn't as prim and proper as he comported himself to be, but ... it wasn't the same. the other shinigami all but worshiped him as a god and aizen could see how brittle and fragile the man was. the barest trace of anything approaching irritation would send him into a frenzy of apologetic fervor. no it wasn't the same at all and so many others merely took him in at face value. even hiyori, a friend he'd never anticipated having, was sharp and brusque without ever knowing the truth of him. kaname, hiyori, others he knew -- ... no. they didn't see him. for kaname he was a savior. for hirako shinji, he was a source of suspicion. for hiyori and the rest, he was but a hard-working fukutaichou who seemed undervalued at times. none of them knew him. none of them understood and he himself had not known what was lacking until that meeting underneath the sickle-thin moon that had hung in the sky, not until there had been a penetrating flash of blue.
and aizen sousuke had gloried in the revelation of what it meant, at last, WHAT IT MEANT TO BE SEEN AND UNDERSTOOD.
but he did remember those plum blossoms, the mood of the older man that day oddly infectious and delightful; he had placed them in water, had sought to see if he could transplant the branch to part of the grounds and if it would survive. he had done his best and it had done so. it had survived and aizen was diligent about attending to it as he was about the paperwork which would fill his desk. but there was, too, those times when he did what he was not supposed to. if he sometimes forged his captain's lazy scrawl of a signature upon paperwork that wasn't truly important in regards to logistical resources, then that didn't matter too much. for all of the suspicion that was leveled towards him by the older man, even if it was not spoken aloud, aizen found it strange that shinji would trust him with this much in return. strange -- but gratifying. and he had done as much as he could for so long now to try and show the older man that his trust was not misplaced. that he was truly loyal to him and more.
how he had tried and tried until he had begun to understand that nothing he did would ever be good enough. he had tried -- and it had never worked. and thus that darkness, something which flickered in his eyes, something that could make him sharper, a little cruel. hirako shinji had seen it on that day when aizen had walked in upon that situation, his eyes going flat and sharp as he had focused in on the third seat. the old man had signed his own death warrant on that day. never had aizen been sure if he had been deliberate or not in ensuring that he would walk in on it, as if to proclaim that shinji might indeed be touched by those hands. or perhaps it had been to irk him. whatever had happened, he had smoothly and deftly turned him towards that courtyard and had FED HIM to ichimaru gin; he had removed the problem with ease and had seen the boy's skill for himself. how pleased he had been.
how did you find our third seat?
no good at all! wasn't even worth my time.
i see. nothing pleases me more than to hear that.
a boy that was allowed to follow around behind the man who wore the wooden badge of fukutaichou, trotting along on those smaller legs to keep pace with the longer strides of the brunet. a boy whom aizen had defended gently when he had stated of what had been wrought. and how those brown eyes had remained focused in on shinji, sharp for once. yet he had seemed to gentle around the youth, had seemed to turn to him as if ready to teach him. and if there was indeed a fight of cat and mouse, it was unseen so far. perhaps it was. was he the hound or was he the fox? cunning and sly, it was likely best to call him the fox. a quick thing he was, sharp and swift. so he had been forcing that contentment in himself as time had gone by. the chain still held him and the collar still was on his neck. for now, aizen sousuke's fangs and claws were muzzled and blunted. but he still saw the way that the older man would look at him at times.
wondering. suspicious. calculating.
nothing at all like eyes of piercing blue that had cut him to the quick and made him willing and almost eager to keep the new inheritor of their third seat around.
his hand moved out after setting the knife down to put a large hand upon shinji's shoulder when he saw him trying to sit up, the warmth of palm and fingers left to soak through the fabric the blonde was draped in. ❝ stop. i don't think that your body will appreciate it if you sit up just yet and i imagine that you'll be asking for painkillers if you try to do that too soon. ❞ with the hands that had held knife and apple, he moved to gather a few more pillows to help prop the older man up rather than allow him to sit up and possibly tug on the sore body even as he heard the comment about the fruit. a smile flickered to his lips as he arranged the last couple of them and then moved to once more take his seat and the apple in hand, starting work on another slice and putting the apple down to carefully work on the almost childish thing he was doing.
the cuts were made along the back of the slice and then the knife moved, sliding under that taut skin to remove it and leave the ears standing up just a bit on display, done with careful efficiency while he listened to the older man speaking up while his mouth twitched again into another of those quick smiles.
❝ i think i charmed them enough into being willing to let me remain here and watch over you. besides, gin has things well in hand. i made sure of that before i left to come keep an eye on you; if nothing else, he can turn to the junior officers for help if need be while i'm not there. ❞ he said it calmly enough but perhaps it might raise an eyebrow. so young but the faith that aizen expressed so simply was pointed. the faith he had in the new third seat -- what would hirako shinji make of that? what would he make of the young fukutaichou that heeled so faithfully after him? what would he make of aizen sousuke expressing such sentiments? a predator could indeed be a predator -- but what was to be said of one that willingly acted so tame for the hand which held his leash?
Tumblr media
but he didn't expect the ruffle to his hair, the thick brown strands parting easily for those fingers that could wrench him into obedience. he knew what their tugging felt like, what meant keep going or stop or just like that --- he knew all of those subtle and nonverbal signs that the older man had taught him over the years. aizen had been an eager pupil, hadn't he? of course he had. he'd done everything he could to make this man see him. to let him in. he had worked hard. he had friends, of course, people he would smile with, laugh with. true, aizen didn't tend to go out drinking with those people, but he would always beg off of such things. the ruffle was -- ... was warm to him, leaving him to blink a few times as he glanced up to shinji, his hand half lifting as if to straighten up that shaggy mop from where it'd surely been left at least a little disheveled by the gesture. but, ah -- the fruit juice so instead his hand lowered again and whatever darkness was there was gone as he gazed at his captain with surprise and something quietly fonder in his eyes before they dropped again.
❝ ... yes, ❞ he said softly. ❝ i did catch you. i've always been there to catch you, haven't i? to protect your back? ❞
( why can't you trust me--? why can't you just, for once, trust me--? why can't you ever LET ME IN? why can't you see me--? why can't you---? )
❝ you may feel fine now, but i imagine that's the painkillers doing their job. besides, i don't feel like getting a lecture from unohana-taichou if you decide to try making your way out of the fourth too soon. ❞
which was a bit rich coming from him; aizen was a terrible patient. he always worked on escaping as soon as he could. but if he wanted to escape his captain -- surely he could've left shinji as he was. surely the older man would understand that. he had woken up, after all. and the ruffle to his hair brought another feeling to him --- a strange understanding. an understanding that made him want to squirm in the seat he sat in now.
( ... i cannot kill you. not now. for all of your indifference towards me, for all of the suspicion you level at me without just cause, i cannot. i cannot. why do you do this to me? what have i ever done to you? why can't you let me in? why can't you see me?
all i want is for you to see me. all i want is for you to-- )
shame--? regret? whatever it was, he found his eyes going back to his hands before he worked on finishing off making those apple slices as decorative as they were, two more being set down on the plate once he was done with them and nudging it a bit closer so shinji would not have to reach so far as his eyes remained on his hands for another moment, shoulders slumped a trifle and making them seem not so broad as they were becoming.
Tumblr media
❝ ... you scared me, ❞ he finally said. ❝ i know how tough you are, hirako-taichou, how strong -- but you scared me. why wouldn't i have caught you? i've always been there at your back, haven't i? i thought --... i thought, just for ... until the medic arrived ... i thought that maybe... ❞
his voice trailed off and his head bowed a bit more.
❝ ... i am glad you are awake, ❞ he said very softly over the noise of the machines that counted out the biological feedback of the older man's pulse and more. ❝ ... very glad that you are awake. i ... ❞
what else was he supposed to say?

Ice Cream Expertise (All the Little Lights #1)
Fandom: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Ships: Kawoshin
Rating: G
Summary: Shinji is faced with a dilemma of sorts, and is characteristically indecisive. Fortunately, Kaworu is there to give some helpful advice. Or maybe just call himself an ice cream expert. Let's be honest, it's a bit of both.
Notes: This is intended to be the start to All the Little Lights, my attempt at a relatively happy Evangelion high school AU featuring the pilots we know (and maybe love) actually getting to live a normal life (including all the cute gay romance they deserve). That said, it also works totally fine as a one shot. Considering it's an AU, there's going to be some rather interesting deviations from canon, some of which are alluded to here. So, if something seems off, that's probably because it is.
As usual, any errors, grammatical or typographical, are mine. I apologize in advance.
This was originally posted to my old AO3 on May 21, 2020. I hope you enjoy it!
_________________________________________________________
Shinji Ikari was not having a good day. No, perhaps that was an understatement. He was having a distinctly bad day. School had been tedious to say the least, considering that testing week was approaching, and the teachers seemed to be doing their best to “prepare” the students using every form of academic torture known to humankind. Okay, perhaps that was a bit of an exaggeration, but it had been a hectic hell all the same. Not to mention the fact that his best friend Touji was going through a rough patch (not the first one, mind you), with his girlfriend Hikari, which led to a tense mood within their friend group outside of class as well. Adding onto this was the fact that he was getting worried about his sister (what wasn’t new?) Rei, who had been especially quiet the past week or so, even by her standards. That was usually a sign that her depression was going through a rough spot. He had wanted to mention something to his mother about it, considering she usually had better luck at getting through to Rei than he did when his sister was going through a difficult time, but unsurprisingly, he hadn’t gotten around to it yet. He was gone too often, and his mother was gone too often. There was all of a one to two hour period when they were both home and awake on any given night. Rei always ending up alone probably doesn’t help her state of mind improve either. I wish she had more friends. People she could connect with.
And, of course, to top all that wonderful baggage off, he had had work after school, which had gone lovely. Just lovely. A simply wonderful group of customers had come in, and stayed for a better part of three hours, ordering intermittently while they all talked (way too loudly, in his opinion) at their shared table, which, in a predictable move, they hadn’t even bothered to clean off. He was a barista, not a waiter, despite what some people seemed to think. To make matters worse, they had been laughing so hard partway through their “discussion,” that one of the party had practically flung her iced latte through the air by accident (how someone could do that by accident, was a whole other topic for conversation), sending its contents flying halfway across the room (in a bafflingly impressive display, he had to admit, as irritating as it was). Of course, he had drawn the short straw and been the one tasked with cleaning it up. His boss seemed to get a special satisfaction out of giving Shinji all the “fun,” jobs. Okay, maybe Mr. Anno’s not that bad, but he still gets a kick out of watching me suffer. Or something like that.
Shinji sighed as he pulled his car into the store parking spot. As he exited it, he glanced down at his phone. 7:16. That meant he should have enough time to get home and get dinner going before his mother got home. These days, it seemed as though she worked progressively later and later. It had been a couple months since she’d been home before 8. She was almost certainly still out at the base at that moment. Whatever project she’s working on now is one of the more intensive ones.
He headed for the doors. He was planning on making stir fry, which meant that he needed to get soy sauce for sure, since he knew they had run out from the last time. He thought they had most of the rest of what he needed at home. So, this should be a quick run. Just in and out. After a day like today though, he was tempted to grab something sweet. Come on, after this whole mess, I think I at least half deserve something to take my mind off of it. Just a little.
Inside, he made a bee line for the condiments aisle. Alright, first things first. Get what I need. Then, maybe, I’ll just check out what they have. He grabbed soy sauce, and then wavered for a moment, trying to decide just for what he was in the mood. Okay, just something little. Nothing too big. I am going to be cooking, after all. Hmmm . . . I mean, it’s probably not the best idea, but . . .
Making his decision, he set off for the frozen section. Once again, he paused when he arrived at the aisle, looking through the glass freezer doors at the available options. I’ll just get a pint. That should be more than enough. Even if Rei goes for some too. ‘Cause mom hardly ever eats anything sweet, so I doubt she’ll have any. He tilted his head, tapping the soy sauce bottle against his thigh as he considered the selection. Why are there so many flavors? I didn’t even realize they sold Pumpkin outside of November. And Lime-Raspberry? What would that even taste like? Who comes up with these things? I’ll go for something classic. I could always do Vanilla. But, that’s a little boring. I don’t even really like it that much. Chocolate’s always classic, except that Rei doesn’t like it. And her favorite is Cookie Dough, which I don’t like the texture of . . . there are way too many choices here. Running his eyes over the racks, he did a quick count. Forty-two different flavors. Why are there forty-two different flavors? I wonder if anyone’s ever tried them all. Then again, that might take a while. And be kind of pricey. Dammit, I’m getting distracted again. The only conclusion that Shinji was coming to was the fact that he liked ice cream far too much, and was wasting far more time than he should be trying to pick out something. Maybe I should just get the soy sauce and head home. He peaked down at his phone. 7:29. Yeah, I’ve already been here longer than I should be.
A voice interrupted Shinji’s thoughts. “So, what’s your drug of choice?”
Shinji head snapped to the side, his concentration broken. “What?,” He asked, a little surprised.
The source of the interruption was standing a little further down the aisle, casually leaning on one of the freezer windows, his head cocked to the side, watching Shinji with a friendly smile on his face. Shinji thought the interrupter looked to be about the same age as him, though that fact was complicated slightly by the fact that though his face was youthful, his hair was an ashen grey. He must dye it. Is grey hair a style though? The interrupting individual sported a pair of black jeans and a band shirt for a group whose name looked vaguely familiar to Shinji. Porcupine Tree . . . I feel like Rei might listen to them. Maybe. Not to mention the fact that the newcomer had red eyes. Red eyes. Okay, so maybe this is a look he’s going for. I mean, those are definitely contacts, right? Unless there’s a genetic mutation I’ve never heard of, I don’t think humans can be born with red eyes. Which means that they’re contacts. Which means that the hair is almost definitely dyed too. I’m pretty sure that’s not what ‘scene’ looks like . . . there’d be brighter colors . . . and I don’t think it’s emo either . . . I’m pretty sure his hair would be black then . . . huh . . . maybe that’s goth. Yeah. Let’s go with that. In addition to making him second guess what scene fashion looked like, Shinji’s visual analysis of the interrupter also led him to a more definite conclusion. That regardless of what category his fashion fell under, he was pretty cute. Seriously Shinji, focus here, and stop thinking about how some random boy in Safeway who asked you what type of drugs you like is cute. Don’t be an idiot. Sure, you haven’t been on a date in months, ever since Martin broke up with you, but he was a manipulative jerk anyway— Shinji realized the interrupter had started talking again, which snapped him back into reality and out of his wandering mind.
“Yeah. What flavor is your favorite. I mean, out of the forty-two, there has to be one you’d pick, right?”
“Oh. Yeah. Probably cookies ’n’ cream,” Shinji answered, feeling more than a bit confused. On an afterthought, he added, “You’ve counted all the flavors too?”
“Not a bad choice,” the boy said with a firm nod. “Although, I’m more into mint chocolate chip myself. And yes, I’ve counted them all. It’s an important part to being an ice cream expert. Keeping track of the available flavors at the nearest store.”
“Okaayyy.” Shinji’s tone betrayed his uncertainty concerning just how he should deal with this stranger. “Ice cream expert?”
“Yep, that would be me,” the boy replied matter-of-factly, as though the question was a pointless one. He strolled over to Shinji and extended his hand. “Kaworu Akagi, ice cream expert, at your service.”
Shinji shook the offered hand, deciding he should be polite, despite the fact that his perplexity had not been substantially diminished in any way. This guy is . . . interesting, to say the least. As their hands met, Shinji was struck by the strange, but intense, sense that this wasn’t his first time meeting Kaworu.
“Shinji Ikari.” Against his better judgement, he decided to follow his introduction with, “Have we met before?”
Retracting his hand, Kaworu pursed his lips, ostensibly mulling over the question in his mind. After a few moments, he shook his head. “I don’t think so. At least, not that I can recall. I just got into town a few days ago. Why do you ask?”
Shinji shrugged, trying to play off his earlier question. “Oh, I think you just reminded me of someone I used to know.”
Kaworu nodded, seeming to accept this answer. “Ah, that makes sense. So, have you come to a conclusion, or would you like a second opinion?”
Shinji raised an eyebrow. “About the ice cream, you mean?”
“Indeed. That is the topic on the floor, as they say,” Kaworu responded nonchalantly.
Shinji blinked. “Who says?”
“Why, they do of course.”
“Oh. Umm, alright.” Shinji looked back through the window, surveying his options once more. A obvious choice didn’t present itself. “Well . . . I suppose a second opinion probably wouldn’t hurt.”
“Great,” Kaworu stated, his tone even and pleasant. “Any occasion in particular you’re buying for?”
Shinji shook his head. “Nope, not really. Just . . .” he hesitated, uncertain how much he wanted to tell someone who was still basically a stranger to him. “Just a bad day,” was what he ended up deciding on.
Kaworu pretended to stroke nonexistent hairs on his chin, nodding slowly as did so, in an amusing imitation of the stereotypical philosopher. “Hmm . . . ice cream for a bad day, you say?”
“Uh. Yeah. I guess so.”
“I’d have to recommend Cherry Chip for that. It’s a guaranteed mood improver from my experience. It is nearly impossible to feel down while you’re eating Cherry Chip ice cream.”
“Really?” Shinji’s ice wandered down the display, finally locating the flavor in question. Fortunately, they had it in pint size, which meant that the option was on the table. He couldn’t think of any reason not to go for it. As far as he knew, Rei liked Cherry Chip. At least, he thought she did. He wasn’t entirely sure that he’d ever seen her eat it. For that matter, he wasn’t entirely sure that he’d ever eaten it himself. Which means it might be pretty good, and I just don’t know it yet. You never know. “Really. Trust me, I’ve tested its potency. It won’t let you down.”
“Alright. Why not?” Shinji opened the door and grabbed a pint of Cherry Chip. He examined the container in his hands for a few seconds, before looking back up at Kaworu, who now seemed to be smiling in encouragement, which had the effect of making him look even cuter than before. Come on Shinji, don’t get distracted! Sure, he might be attractive, but he’s also a self-proclaimed ice cream expert. . . not sure whether that’s a good or a bad thing yet, to be honest.
“That’ll do the job,” Kaworu remarked, in a straightforward tone that made it sound as though he was utterly confident in the truth of his words.
“I’ll take your word for it.” Shinji furrowed his brow as another question popped into his mind. “Hey .. . you said you just got into town a few days ago. How is it that you already know all the different flavors they have here?”
“It was one of the first things I scoped out after we got into town. Always important to know what kind of ice cream game you’re going to be dealing with. Plus, I had plenty of free time once we finished unpacking, considering I won’t be in school up here until the fall.”
“Ah, okay. That makes sense.” Almost on a whim, Shinji was tempted to ask Kaworu where he had moved from, but decided that could come across as prying a little too much, since Kaworu hadn’t offered that information. As it was, Kaworu gave a partial answer to the question without Shinji even verbalizing it.
“School down south ends earlier. Though, to be fair, it also starts earlier there as well. We left a couple days after my semester ended. Which means I currently have relatively few obligations, other than locating and obtaining a job for the summer.”
“Oh. Yeah.” Shinji still wasn’t exactly sure how to respond, but he decided to field a question of his own. He figured it could come across as a polite inquiry, rather than being nosy, taking into account what Kaworu had just revealed. “So, what brought you up north?”
“My mother got transferred out to the base,” Kaworu returned offhandedly.
Shinji tilted his head in response to this answer, the gears in his brain turning. Well, that’s interesting. He almost wanted to make some sort of follow-up remark expressing their similarity in that regard, but he decided that might be a bit too much to say for the moment. Instead, he merely offered a casually, “I gotcha.” He continued with an amiable, “Well, welcome to Asherdale,” along with a more ironic, “It’s halfway decent, once you get used to it.”
Kaworu’s face broken into a grin at the humor, an expression that Shinji couldn’t help but feel made him look all the more attractive. Oops, getting distracted again. . . don’t do that . . . too much.
“Thanks, I appreciate it,” Kaworu said warmly.
“No problem.” The thought suddenly entering his mind, Shinji shot a momentary glance down at his phone. Hmm, what time is it? The answer was 7:37. 7:37?! I’ve been talking for eight minutes?! That felt like four or five at the most. I have to bail, now, if I’m going to make it home in time to get cooking.
He looked back up at Kaworu, who was still watching him, his gaze soft, the smile still on his face, his head tilted to the side. Shinji had the strange feeling that if it had been anyone else, the observational pose the boy had struck would have looked unusual, to say the least, but somehow, on Kaworu, it didn’t look half bad. It gives him a kind of elegant aesthetic . . . okay, where did I come up with that? I definitely need to head out.
“Hey, look, I’m sorry to leave so quick, but I need to get going.” Shinji cringed a little internally, hearing the awkward tone in his voice. You could have said that in a way that didn’t basically announced the fact that it made you flustered. Great going.
“Understandable. You wouldn’t want that ice cream to melt before you get the chance to test out its powers.”
“Haha, yeah, you know it.”
Kaworu nodded, imply that yes, he did indeed know it. “Why don’t I give you my number?” He remarked. “That way, you’ll have someone on hand for any future ice cream dilemmas.”
“Ahhh . . .” Okay, that was actually kind of smooth, in an odd way. And . . . it’s not like it could really hurt anything. I mean, he didn’t even ask for my number. Which means he’s not even necessarily flirting with me. It’d probably be a bit of stretch to say he is. After all, if I have his number, and he doesn’t have mine, that means I can choose whether I want to text him or not, and there’s nothing he can do about it. Which isn’t really a good way to flirt with somebody. I think I’m stalling again here . . .”
Shinji noticed Kaworu was watching him again, waiting for a response. “Sure. Sounds like a good plan.” He pulled out his phone and hastily created a new contact, before offering it to Kaworu. “Here, you can put it in.”
Kaworu nodded, his smile remaining intact, and typed in the digits, before handing it back to Shinji. “It was nice to meet you, Shinji Ikari,” he commented affably.
“You can just call me Shinji,” Shinji quickly responded.
“Alright then. It was nice to meet you Shinji.”
“You too . . .” Should I use first and last name like he did the first time? Or just go with first name. I don’t want to offend him, if that’s the sort of thing that’s important to him. After all, he does seem a bit, umm, particular.
“You can just call me Kaworu,” the boy suggested, his smile widening.
“It was nice to meet you Kaworu,” he finished lamely. “Guess I’ll see you around.”
“Yes, maybe so.”
Shinji nodded again, spun on his heels, and promptly made for the registers. Well, that went excellently. You meet a boy who’s kind of cute, even if he is a little eccentric, and straight off the bat, you’re second guessing yourself and fumbling for words. Fantastic.
Shinji shot a brief glance back as he reached the end of the aisle, to see that Kaworu was now retrieving an ice cream carton of his own from the merchandise freezer. Shinji turned away again before the boy could look back in his direction. Don’t want him to think I’m staring at him or something.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shinji collapsed back onto his bed with a satisfied sigh. He was glad to have finally reach it, after the nigh-interminable day. Well, maybe not quite interminable. But definitely overlong. Without much thought, he grabbed his phone from his nightstand and spun in about in his hands a couple times, feeling the sensation of the textured case against his skin.
Dinner had been a success, such as it could be, anyway. He had impressed himself with just how fast he managed to throw things together when he went into slight (well, maybe more than slight) panic mode.
The ice cream had been a success as well. He had to admit, Cherry Chip was a pretty good flavor. He still wasn’t sure whether he had tried it before or not, but he was glad he had definitively tried it now. Rei had also enjoyed it, which was an added plus. In fact, their mother had even had a bowl, something altogether unexpected. Apparently, Cherry Chip ice cream was one of the sweets she would indulge in. Didn’t see that coming. All in all, the majority of the pint was no more.
Powering on his phone, Shinji was faced with another choice for the evening. Unlike his earlier ice cream deliberation, however, this cerebration was of a cursory duration. After a few seconds, he had composed the text, and was hovering over the send button. Alright. Let’s do this. He tapped the icon.
Shinji I.: Thanks for the recommendation. It was a good choice! Lol. This is Shinji, btw.
The response to his message came swiftly. Wow, he must type fast.
Kaworu A.: Happy to be of service. I’m glad it worked out.
Shinji found a smile edging its way across his lips. Maybe, in spite of everything, today wasn’t such a bad day after all.
ToT letter 2021
I am laughingpineapple on AO3
Hello dear author! I hope you’ll have fun with our match. Feel free to draw from general or fandom-specific likes, past letters, and/or follow your heart.
Art likes: characters doing something, even something very simple, illustrating a moment rather than abstractly posing. I also enjoy seeing them wear different clothes, getting a feel of what their fashion sense is like beyond their canon outfit(s). Or dressing them up for some outlandish AU!
Likes: worldbuilding, slice of life (especially if the event the fic focuses on is made up but canon-specific), missing moments, 5+1 and similar formats, bonding and emotional support/intimacy, physical intimacy, lingering touches, loyalty, casefic, surrealism, magical realism, established relationships, future fic, hurt/comfort or just comfort from the ample canon hurt, throwing characters into non-canon environments, banter, functional relationships between dysfunctional individuals, unexplained mysteries, bittersweet moods, journal/epistolary fic, dreams and memories and identities, canon-adjacent tropey plots, outsider POV, UST, resolved UST, exploration of secondary bits of canon, leaning on the uniqueness of the canon setting/mood, found families, characters reuniting after a long and/or harrowing time, friends-to-lovers, road trips, maps, mutual pining, cuddling, wintry moods, the feeling of flannel and other fabrics, ridiculous concepts played straight, sensory details, sickfic, places being haunted, people being haunted, the mystery of the woods, small hopes in bleak worlds, electricity, places that don’t quite add up, mismatched memories, caves and deep places, distant city lights at night, emphasis on non-human traits of non-human characters (gen-wise, but also a hearty yes xeno for applicable ships), emphasis on inhuman traits of characters who were human once and have sort of shed it all behind
DNW: non-canonical rape, non-canonical children, focus on children, unrequested ships (background established canon couples are okay, mentions of parents are okay!), canon retellings
All requests are for both fic and art!
Death Crown: Death, trick
(I haven't played the DLC yet so, alas, no demons, or no spoilers for the demons, at least) I am absolutely charmed by the overall mood of this game and would like to see something more in that vein! Anything! Got more sacred (or unholy?) geometrical architecture for Death to interact with, maybe in greater detail than just wrecking it? What else feels like a contemporary take on a Bosch painting? Can Death get lost?
Ghost Trick: Jowd, Cabanela, trick, treat
Anything focused on Cabanela being an unstoppable force (confident, untiring, sparkling, stubborn, dexterous, loyal to the bitter end, legs) and/or Jowd being an immovable object (sarcastic, strong, depressed, self-deprecating but knowing he's hot stuff, also stubborn, clever but an emotional dumbass, round). Figuring out stuff? Something in the new timeline is linked to the old timeline? Coat? Dancing? Scarves? Halloween costumes?
I like Cabanela/Jowd and Cabanela/Alma/Jowd and Cabanela/Alma in scenarios where Jowd isn't around and Alma/Jowd in general (REALLY like all these, okay. like this is the one request where I'd love the most self-indulgent shippy takes as well), and dig Lynne/Memry. Yomiel/fianSissel and Emma/JM also cool!
Hylics: any, trick, treat
(I have only played the first game so far so please no overt spoilers for Hylics 2. Feel free to include stuff from it but... stealthily, I guess?) This is an "anything that feels somewhat like canon, please" sort of request! Love the mood, love the cast, love the little added details in their menu screen. Those can be prompts? Or the oddball stats? How do ToT's trick and treat freeforms apply to Hylics' overall... hylicsness, what would those guys think constitutes a "creepy" moment or a "fluffy" one?
Not into ships for this one, however I WILL say that Dedusmuln has all the proverbial curves in the right places. mostly their face.
Kentucky Route Zero: Weaver
Math, debt, the liminal state of almost being a ghost, seeing the world with a strange clarity... just anything Weaver, please! How'd she make her way to the town? What was it like for her to be working on Xanadu for a time? What about the community broadcast! Does she have an opinion on Carrington's oeuvre? You know... things... stuff. Weaver things. and stuff.
I love the whole cast and Weaver... wove... her story through most of them so feel free to bring in whomever. Not interested in ships here though.
Paradise Killer: Lady Love Dies, trick
A post-canon glimpse of life on '''''perfect''''' 25? That's not QUITE enough class consciousness to make the whole thing work, you guys. What does 'normal' life feel like to LD now? After following Henry's case and talking to Shinji so much, can she see that it's doomed to fail again, and then what? What IS Island 25 like, anyway? (what comes after Island 25, even?)
I liked the choice of canon romances - if it has to be just one I'd prefer it to be Crimson, but I'd also be interested in seeing what a V or triad with Doom Jazz would look like. They're all so chill about stuff
Pyre: Volfred, trick, treat
Pragmatic idealist, charismatic and bad at people, pacifist, activist, physiologically incapable of shutting up for a hot second, what's there not to love... I am very into either of the following: C. Volfred Sandalwood has a fantastic day; C. Volfred Sandalwood has a terrible no good day. Everything is great! Pre-exile antiestablishmentarian antics, maybe with Bertrude? Political gambits? The very physical dangers of the Downside which may or may not catch a scholar by surprise (who saves him?)? Tree problems? Meeting Oralech for the first time and Volfred thinks he himself is hot stuff but out of the two, Oralech is clearly the VIP? Feeling like he should live up to Lu Sclorian's legacy but he feels much closer to other Scribes (and what does Lu have to say about it, one way or another?)? The thrilling intimacy of Reading? The thrilling intimacy of lowercase reading also, maybe reading old manuscripts found in the Downside?
I very much ship him with Tariq and/or Oralech. The only canon ship I like is Hedwyn/Fikani. I also like Soliam/Gol, Bertrude/Pamitha and Celeste/Jodariel. Love all the Nightwings + Dalbert (+Deluge...?); love to dunk on Manley, Brighton and Lendel (I don't enjoy flat-out bashing, more like... I enjoy the way they are portrayed as horrible gremlins in canon and if they turn up in fic I'm not interested in more positive portrayals)
Signs of the Sojourner: Rhea, Elias, trick, treat
Once again pretty much an "anything in the style of canon" request. I love this setting, its themes and all the little lives that fill it. I am interested in a wide range of postcanon scenarios and love the whole cast - does Rhea come back to $town any number of years down the line and find $character? How'd their storyline end up in the medium-long term? What the hell is up with the Stranger (seriously, three runs and I never managed to speak with them, I have no idea)? What's life like for Elias back home, or in a new home if they can't keep the store, or if Rhea landed the Oscar ending or whatever (just, please, not dead Rhea. I love that ending but can't stand to consider what it'd do to Elias)? Or does he join the caravan just once? Who did Rhea grow to really like and can't wait to see every time? Any ghost stories or creepy encounters on the caravan's route? Does Thunder help?
I'm neutral on ships here - good with Rhea&Elias, good with background Rhea/Elias but I wouldn't like a romantic focus.
Totally Normal Wizard Apprentice: apprentice, wizard, master, trick, treat
(conflict of interest disclaimer, I illustrated this but didn't write nor nominate it) What awaits the apprentice outside the wizard's tower? It sounds like a pretty wild moon out there, I loved all the worldbuilding hints of the bigger setting. Does the wizard keep track of the apprentice, with her telescope or otherwise, and how does she take care of her ruined parlor? Was this all some sort of 5d chess on the master's part, and if so to what end? And what kind of otherworldly patience does this man possess, anyway, to handle the apprentice on a daily basis?
Twin Peaks: Margaret, Diane, Lucy, Tammy, trick, treat
(bass-boosted ethereal whooshing) For tricks, I would like to see any of these characters face the woods, the mystery of the woods, and/or a new symbol of your liking. Or: Margaret in the city, Diane and the moon, Lucy and the color blue, Tammy incognito.
For treats, a happy meeting. I love the whole cast and I'm always thrilled by gonzo "&" pairings, bring in whomever! Coffee and pie? The Bookhouse Boys? A kinder aspect of the woods?
Fandom-specific notes: love s3, love the books too. I like Lucy/Andy, Margaret/Sam fwiw, and rarepairs Tammy/Cynthia and Diane/Constance. Please no Fireman's-house-is-the-white-lodge, no Twin Perfect, no Judy-was-destroyed (nor is destroyable).
Arcade Spirits: Percy, Teo, treat
More than anything, I love the sense of group and camaraderie among the arcade's staff and regulars, and I'd love to see some more of it. I picked Percy and Teo 'cause they're my faves but anyone you may want to add, up to and including Sue, is very very welcome. Is there any aspect of gaming that feels like it could be adapted to this strange world of contemporary arcades? Cosplay shenanigans for everyone courtesy of Ashley? Any other activity that could show how Percy and/or Teo get along with the others, like they were all forming little groups during the beach chapter? It's such a feel-good canon, any feel-good situation would be great!
My Ari is with Percy but I'm not really interested in shipping here. All sorts of friendships though!
🏐 Massage; Shinji Watari (Sportember #010)
Tumblr media
📑 Table of Contents | ⚟ Challenge Post
Genre: Fluff, Slice of Life
Word Count: 1,004
Pairing: Reader x Watari
World: Haikyuu!!
Prompt: Massage
Sport: Volleyball
â”â”â”â”â”â”àŒ»đŸŽŸ_🏀_🏐àŒș━━━━━━
The sky was a light grey, the birds chirping happily within the trees as the cool breeze ruffled the branches, offering a bit of relief from the hot summer heat. It was humid, the promise of rain to come, which you were quite happy about. The rain was a welcome commodity for you, something that always managed to calm you down no matter your mood. While you didn’t mind the risk of getting wet, you knew your boyfriend would be worried about it because getting sick meant missing volleyball practice.
For that reason, you preyed to mother nature, asking her to wait until the boy in question was safe within his home before allowing the sky to open up and shower the earth, but mother nature was not one to be swayed by the mere wishes of mortal kind.
You smiled as Shinji exited the locker room, dressed in his uniform and ready to return home for some much needed rest. When he saw you, he returned the smile with a tired one of his own before slipping his hand into yours, lacing your fingers together. “Ready to go, my love?”
Though he had heard the pet name so many times in the short time that the two of you had been dating, it never failed to bring color to his cheeks. “Yes. Thank you for waiting on me.”
“Of course! I enjoy watching you play, plus it’s not like I have any club activities to do or anything, so you get my full attention~”
And he was thankful for that. Shinji Watari was a man that always did his best, pushing himself as hard as possible to get the desired result, but having someone there to cheer him on, to praise him when he saved the ball and comfort him when he messed up, it made the experience so much more rich for him. How was it possible to feel so much love for someone after dating them for only three months? He wasn’t sure, but he had fallen hard for you.
Your lips parted with the intention of asking if he wanted to stop for some food on the way home, but the words died when the sky split open, thousands of water droplets falling to the earth. You reacted quick enough, the two of you running for cover beneath a bus stop on the side of the road, but the damage had been done. His wet clothes stuck to his body, drops of water sliding down his smooth skin. His lips tugged down as he pulled at the collar of the shirt, brow furrowed. With such an important game coming up for Aobajohsai, he simply couldn’t afford to get sick.
But you had prepared for such a situation, having been fully intent on enjoying the rain if it chose to show itself. Setting your bag on the bench beside him, you pulled out a sealed plastic bag, inside of which was a clean, and dry, set of clothes. You were around the same height as him, so you knew the clothes would, at the very least, fit him.
“Take your shirt off, love.”
His cheeks burned at the sudden command, eyes snapping toward you as you pulled open the bag. “W-What are you saying, Y/N?”
“Hmm?” You glanced at him, only to chuckle at his beet-red face. “So you don’t get sick, silly. Take the wet shirt off and put this on.” You handed him the t-shirt, hoping he wouldn’t mind the image of Saitama printed on the front.
“Oh.” He felt silly for thinking it was anything other than an innocent request. “What about you? I don’t want you to get sick, either.”
You chuckled at his concern, pecking his warm cheek. “You have an important match to play, so you have to be at your best. I don’t, so it makes sense that you’re the one that takes it.”
“Okay
” he reluctantly agreed with your words. Still, he felt embarrassed at the thought of you seeing his body. “Do you mind turning around?”
Instead of answering, you turned your back to him, focusing your attention on your phone as you scrolled through your feed on tumblr, reblogging memes and liking posts you’d like to look at better once you got to your computer. It didn’t take long for him to peel off the wet shirt of his uniform, slipping the yellow t-shirt over his head before folding the uniform shirt to avoid wrinkles.
“Okay, I’m done.”
You put your phone back into your pocket and turned around, head tilting at his tense posture as he sat with his elbows on his knees, brow furrowed in worry. Being a libero already put quite a bit of pressure on him because it was his job to keep the ball in play no matter what, which gave his team more opportunities to score and a better chance of winning the game. But now he also worried about if this small event would be enough to make him catch a cold, preventing him from being there for his team when they needed him.
“Shinji,” you called out his name to break his train of thought. “Turn your back to me, will you.”
His eyes met yours, feeling confused as to why you were asking him to do so, but he just assumed you had more clothes in your bag and wanted to change out of your wet clothes. With this thought, he didn’t hesitate to shift his body, bringing him leg up to rest on the bench. To his surprise, he felt you sit down behind him, fingers resting against his shoulders as you began to massage the tension from his body. He instantly relaxed under your touch, a sigh escaping him as he leaned back against you. To him, your touch was like magic, easing his worries and his fears.
Shinji really had fallen so hard for you, but that was okay, because you had fallen hard for him, as well.
I had a really bad day today. Can I have the SDRA2 cast interacting with a new student female reader who knows “fake friends” all too well and keeps to herself and isn’t trusting because of that, but the cast brings their self-esteem back up and helps them enjoy life? It’s like what I feel is happening to me, but at least the reader can have a happy ending. I’m not sure if there will be any happiness coming my way any time soon.
Tumblr media
I’m sorry to hear that you feel the same as me sometimes. Life can be pretty hard, but try not to close yourself off too much
happiness can wait in the tiniest things, but do what is the best for yourself and not for other people, alright? I don’t have a very good life myself, so I know how you feel
. I believe in you, and if you need to vent, you can always come to me, okay? I wish you the absolute best and hope this is alright for you.
Fake (?) Friends
-New school, same spiel, you were convinced that nothing would ever change, that was just how humans were, things would never change, people would just get close to you, but their friendship wasn’t real, it never was and never would be. That was just how it was
-You were confused at everyone being so nice to you when you came into their class, only gave them a mild glare and a half-hearted wave before you went to your seat in the far back by the window, putting your books up and avoiding to look at everyone. You just wanted highschool to be over so you can work home-office or become an independent artist or something. You were just done
-Eventually you had break and you got your bento for lunch out and wanted to eat in silence, perkin up when you heard shuffling in front of you, a tiny girl with her own lunch standing awkwardly in front of you. “H-hey
.I-I don’t like the cafeteria either
.can I eat with you
?”
-You really didn’t want her to stay, but you simply shrugged, you were not in the mood for fighting or any confrontations
-Iroha shuffled down next to you and eventually tried to engage into small talk with you, which you denied her at first, telling her you were not looking for any new friends
-Iroha seemed down at that at first, but she could understand, she didn’t know what you have been through, so maybe she could warm up to you eventually
-So of course Iroha immediately told everyone in class and from that day onwards everyone was constantly bothering you
-It was raining? Shinji offered to walk you home with his umbrella, had trouble with homework? Kokoro would like to do them with you, she is already done anyway, bored? Go training with Hajime, or play video games with Yuki and Nikei, talk about space with Yuri under the shade of a tree and something to eat, watch a movie with Emma, watch some of Mikado’s magic, even Syobai would sit next to you and start smoking, you were not getting rid of these people
-Even the super tsundere Yoruko invited you to do something with her, what was even happening?! Hibiki and Kanade wanted to ‘Jam’ with you and Setsuka kept calling you her little sibling and kept calling you cute and teasing you, what was these peoples deals?!
-You couldn’t take it anymore during one lunch break and you saw Sora heading towards your place with her bento, finally losing your cool and slamming something on your desk, making everyone look up.
-”Okay, tell me, what the fuck is your deal?! Why are you so nice to me, even though I told you multiple times that I was not planning to make any friends on this school?! So what the fuck do you want from me?!”
-Setsuka sighed, getting up and looking at you with her one eye, before answering truthfully: “All we want is for you to be our friend.”
-Yuri set the manga down he was reading, continuing: “Indeed! You are quite the lovely person, it would be a shame to let you walk out of my life forever, I simply couldn’t bare that thought! If any of these degenerate males are bothering you though, you just need to tell me and I will take care of this issue!”
-Yuri exchanged a rather intense glare with Syobai before the two looked at you again and you were just confused. Why
why were these people so nice to you when you tried to avoid them to the best of your ability?
-You
eventually sighed, smiling: “You have one chance
alright
?”
-And that was all they needed. Everyone was fairly excited and ran up to you for a group hug, except Syobai, cause he’s a bastard.
-But
maybe it wouldn’t be so bad
and maybe they only need one chance
..to make a difference
.
CHRISTMAS CUDDLES! CHRISTMAS CUDDLES! Could we get #8 - HCs for Shunsui, Shinji, and Byakuya please? Just imagine snuggling up to allllll of that while it's freezing outside.
# 8 - The Christmas friskies. Coming right up! Since you mentioned Christmas cuddles, I’ll use that as a catalyst to friskiness. :)
Shunsui - Any excuse is a good one for Shunsui to get his hands on you. But, nothing is more perfect than snow on the ground, a lit Christmas tree, and a bottle of sake close by. Cuddling with you by a fire with soft music puts him right in the mood for getting frisky. He’ll shift and let his erection nudge you or take your hand and guide it to stroke him through his clothes. Once he gets your hands busy on him, he gets his busy on you. Shunsui could write a book on lazy sex. He’s quite content to spend a long time engaged in foreplay before spending even more time buried deep inside you.
Shinji - Cuddling on the couch. Christmas jazz music playing. Christmas tree lit up. Candles burning. Hot coco. And Shinji nibbling on your neck while his hands sneak into all the right places. He likes to get you all worked up then hit a ticklish spot to snap you out of it so he can start all over again. By the time the jazz record has played through one side, he’s got you out of your clothes and is well on his way to making you pant and moan. Shinji will keep you up well past midnight -- maybe closer to dawn -- with his need to fill you again and again. You’ll both drift off to sleep at some point but he’ll wake you up for one more round in the shower before breakfast.
Byakuya - Don’t let his staunch control and cool demeanor fool you. This man gets worked up when cuddling by a fire. The Christmas season has charmed him because of your love for it. The servants will know to leave you both alone, but he’ll use an extra kido lock just to make sure no one ever has a chance to catch him fingering you from behind while whispering in your ear all the things he feels for you. Once he’s satisfied with how much pleasure he’s given you with his fingers and mouth, he’ll deliver even more with his body. Expect to be sleeping on the couch with him because he’ll make sure neither of you is in a state to walk until morning.
Darwin's Game
So, I watched Darwin's game and I didn't really like it. 3/10 honestly and only because I'm in a good mood. Idk if I can make anime reviews for this uni thing but that's most of what I watch so. Okay, so my thoughts are it was boring, so boring to the point that I just watched in dub cause I couldn't be bothered.
Tumblr media
Also ugly, I'm so sorry but if something is visually ugly I just lose interest automatically. The character designs look stupid. I liked the girl that was like the most powerful she was cool looking, also the girl with the blue hair ig. I mean I like the blonde girl as well but I still think her design looks stupid. I do not know the names of the characters but I feel like when that happens it's more the show's fault cause it's not memorable enough. I don't even know the mc's name. Like Kanabe kaname idk tbh and I don't care cause I absolutely hate him. In the beginning, he's like a shinji type character, just like a crybaby, which is fine but I feel like when other animes try to imitate Shinji they completely miss the point. But also this kanabe guy or whatever his name is, he just turns to kirito, just like super op all of a sudden. I kid u not after one event he just trains off-camera ig and then he has abbs and mussels everywhere. He's just annoying, the whole series is annoying.
Tumblr media
The main villain and the less villain are also stupid. The main one u don't even get info about him so I don't care. the lesser one he's just designed like a snake which could be cool, it's not. he just makes me cringe. also the dialogue makes me cringe so much. oh going back to the villain thing. in the beginning, I thought the blonde girl would be the villain but then she's not and I feel like she could be such a good villain cause I also at first u don't know her motivations. I mean I think that's it, i kinda like the opening song but not that much and the animation like its not terrible but it's also not good or memorable in any way. there is something I like which is the plant guy. like I don't like his personality and I couldn't care less about his sad story. but his power is so cool I feel like I would have that power lowkey, but mine would be more like fairy type thing, I wish his uniform was just like flowers to like come back to that thing with his daughter but also how cool is to have a big strong man just fight with flower power. but they just make him a tree trunk instead.
Tumblr media
this pic is aesthetic tho
Tumblr media
Also I watched it in English and like the characters cannot say Darwin's game for some stupid reason and so they just say D game and I swear every time they said it the only thing I could think about was dick game. I'm sorry but it's true
#92 Labyrinth (1986)
Right out of the Muppets and into the Labyrinth...  I am very glad I watched this movie before I dug into that project, because I think I would have rage quit this whole thing.  This list has a Jim Henson bias, which is semi-understandable, but like... 8 movies?  Out of 100?  There aren’t better musical movies than these?
Family Video rents most old movies for like .50, but because of the world slowly ending, the one by my house was closed and I was forced to pay $3.99 to stream Labyrinth.  It was about $3.49 too much.  I don’t understand how Jim Henson, George Lucas, Terry Jones, and David Bowie could get together and make such a mediocre film.  Like, honestly, the entire time I just wanted the movie to end so I could watch Flight of the Conchords and laugh at some truly ridiculous Bowie-related content.
A self-involved teenage girl named Sarah is politely asked by her stepmother to babysit her little brother.  Sarah decides to take her angst out on a literal infant by offering him up to a goblin king, freeing up her time so she can wander the streets reciting dialogue from a play to herself, which is super important, guys, there’s no way she could have done that in her own home.
Jareth, the Goblin King, who is also David Bowie, is in love (!?) with 15-year-old Jennifer Connelly, and shows up to steal her little brother, leaving a glitter trail behind him.  Sarah decides suddenly she wants the burden of being an older sister, and follows him to the Goblin City to get the kid back.
She is immediately greeted by Hoggle, a puppet that simultaneously looks like the animatronic tree trolls in Maelstrom and Mel Brooks dressed up like Yogurt.
Tumblr media
He tells her the only way she can get to the castle of the Goblin King is to first make her way through the Labyrinth.  In an effort to save money on sets, they have Sarah run the same glitter herpes infected stretch of it for 5 minutes, complaining it goes on forever, without having the thought she could use any of the trees to climb up the wall and jump over it.  An actual adorable worm takes pity on her and tells her to walk through the wall, because he’s sick of seeing her pace back and forth.  Sarah learns that everything in the Labyrinth is not as it seems.
David Bowie, observing how slowly Sarah is making her way through the maze, does a preemptive “I’ve stolen a child to raise for nefarious purposes and there’s no way she’s going to get him back” celebration dance.
youtube
I discovered Sting was Jim Henson’s first pick for Jareth (presumably because he saw how excellent his acting was in Dune) but his son talked him into approaching David Bowie for the project.  I would give anything to know what that conversation was like.
“Now, picture this... you are a goblin king, and you’re going to steal a kid.  The great majority of the movie you’ll either be trying to entertain an infant, lust after a teenager, or dance with creepy fucking puppets.  Also, we need you to write all the songs.  We cool?”
I should probably take this moment to mention that I’m not a huge David Bowie fan (I know, I know... it’s terrible), so it’s hard for me to consider how appealing these songs are to those who like his type of synth-pop.  They fit the mood of the film, but I don’t feel like they add anything particularly special to the narrative.  Labyrinth easily could have not been a musical and nothing would have been lost.
Anyway, Sarah continues to truck her way though the maze and runs into Alice in Wonderland-style talking playing cards that ask her to pick a door, and then assist her in falling through a rabbit hole.  She is accosted by nightmare-fuel hand faces that ask if she wants to be molested up out of the pit, or down into it.
Tumblr media
She decides to go farther down into hell, where she runs into Hoggle and convinces him to help her get through the maze in exchange for a fancy plastic bracelet.  It’s about around this time where Jareth intervenes to grab some constructive criticism about her experience.
Tumblr media
Not very much, David.  Not very much.
Being frustrated with her answer, he sicks the cleaners on Sarah and Hoggle, which is a drill driven by two guys on a bicycle.  After avoiding certain death, they are greeted by a series of verbally abusive rock faces, who apologize for just doing their job.
Tumblr media
Here’s the thing about this movie - The sets and the puppets are awesome (although super fucking creepy), and they are used for some really great visual gags.  But all the craftsmanship is crushed under the weight of a truly unremarkable, low-stakes story.  I tried to write this summary for over a week, and every time I tied, I got bogged down trying to come up with what the fuck I’m going to say.  The plot is like if Monty Python and the Holy Grail and every Disney movie fairy tale cliche had a puppet baby, and I’m just bored.  Let’s fast forward through the rest of the Labyrinth, shall we?
Hoggle and Sarah run into a large dog-looking thing named Ludo (not Pluto), who is being attacked by a bunch of things that look like the naked mole rat anti-christ from South Park’s Woodland Critter Christmas.  They save him, work their way through another set of doors, listen to a musical number by a group of demonic Crash Bandicoots, and trudge through a bad smelling swamp.  They are then introduced to the only cute thing in the entire movie, a fox-looking puss-in-boots that pulls a Gandalf and a black knight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sarah convinces Sir Didymus and his big Hammerlock energy to help them reach the castle, and he joins their group.  She then gets poisoned and trapped in a dream bubble, where she wears a gown that looks like it would melt if exposed to an open flame and lusts after a grown-ass man who yanked her brother out the window like the Lindbergh baby.
Tumblr media
She escapes from the dream, reunites with her party, and storms the castle.  They are immediately confronted by the coolest monster ever to be made out of a door, and Hoggle Shinji’s his way into the mecha and takes it down from the inside.
youtube
Seriously, this, and the battle that ensues afterward, is peak Jim Henson.  From Ludo opening up the wall to enter the house, to the exploding cannon, to the goblins going down like bowling pins... I was increasingly impressed by the work and care that clearly went into creating these scenes.  If only the rest of the movie were this captivating.
youtube
Sarah finally confronts Jareth in the castle, and the big climax of the movie is... David Bowie whining that Sarah is ungrateful that he stole and babysat her brother for a few hours, while she runs through an M.C. Escher painting to grab Toby.  No, seriously.
Tumblr media
Sarah jumps out of the rabbit hole and returns back to her house to find Toby in his crib.  She celebrates by throwing a party with all the puppets in her bedroom, while Jareth turns into an owl and buggers off to make some other teenager walk through a maze for 2 hours.
Now to prepare myself for some 1950s Baltimore camp, because Cry-Baby is next.
Heavy Metal! The Robo-Apocalypse Sweeps Japan in "Vexille"
  Dreaming of Electric Sheep.
  Some day, some well-meaning egghead will no doubt invent an android that will watch all of our anime for us. That day is not today, though, and anime fans can still use a little aid in curating their queues. “Cruising the Crunchy-Catalog” is here to help. Each week we provide additional info and cultural context to help fans decide which series they'd like to try out, and which ones they'd rather let wash away like tears in the rain.
    What's Vexille?
  Vexille is a 2007 3DCG theatrical anime film with direction by Fumihiko Sori and animation by Oxybot. An original science fiction / action movie set in a near future where automation threatens to subsume humanity, Crunchyroll describes the story of Vexille as follows:
    In 2067, Japan sealed itself off from the world after international policy set strict limits on the use of robotic technology. A decade later, the nation’s veil of secrecy is breached by S.W.O.R.D., an elite fighting force operating outside of the protection of the U.S. and her allies. Their mission: Determine if Japan is developing banned robotic bio-technology that could threaten humanity.
    Echoing the Sakoku Edict of 1635 that sealed Japan's borders from foreign influence until the Harris Treaty of 1858 as well as the ethno-nationalistic militarism of the early Showa period, Vexille envisions a world where technological hegemony allows a single corporation (Daiwa Heavy Industries) to not only dominate an entire nation, but the vast majority of international trade as well.
    Vexille is also a rare example of an action / science fiction anime film where the members of the United States military who perform dangerous clandestine operations are portrayed as the good guys. Often the US government and military serve as a quick stand-in for "looming foreign threat", but in Vexille, S.W.O.R.D. is trying to save Japan, albeit for ultimately self-interested reasons.
    More Human Than Human.
  In terms of its themes and politics, Vexille comes down firmly on the side of “maybe hyper-advanced android technology isn't all it's cracked up to be.” Like similar science fiction films, Vexille questions what it means to be human by providing a vivid counter-example: entire populations of “remnants” who've had their original bodies swapped with synthetic replacements without their consent. It's a surprisingly somber meditation in a film filled with chase scenes and high tech shoot-outs.
youtube
    Fine Design.
  Vexille's greatest strengths are in its high production values. The film has aged well over the decade since its initial release. Vexille's mechanical design team created some really cool looking robots, vehicles, and powered armor suits, while the animators and effects teams focused great effort into making those robots, vehicles, and powered armor suits explode in glorious fashion. Substance is important, but so is style, and Vexille has both in spades.
    The Apple Doesn't Fall Far from the Tree.
  Because both movies share several key staff members, Vexille bears a more than cosmetic resemblance to the 2004 Appleseed film directed by Shinji Aramaki. For example: Vexille director Fumihiko Sori was one of the producers for Appleseed; both films feature music by Paul Oakenfold and Boom Boom Satellites; Haruka Handa served as a screenwriter on both films; and both films feature mecha designed by Atsushi Takeuchi.
  If you enjoy Appleseed, you'll also probably like Vexille, and vice versa.
    Future History.
  Thanks to our partnership with Funimation, Crunchyroll currently streams Vexille in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the United States Minor Outlying Islands. The film is available in the original Japanese language with English subtitles, and it is also available with an English dub and on North American home video from Funimation.
    Universal Pictures announced their intention to create a live-action remake of Vexille in 2013, but so far these plans haven't materialized. In the mean time, audiences can content themselves with the original animated version. If you're in the mood for spectacular action set pieces interspersed with ponderous themes to chew over, and the film is available in your area, please consider giving Vexille a try.
    Is there a series in Crunchyroll's catalog that you think needs some more love and attention? Please send in your suggestions via e-mail to [email protected] or post a Tweet to @gooberzilla. Your pick could inspire the next installment of “Cruising the Crunchy-Catalog”!
Can I have past and current captains finding out their s/o is cheating on them.
Trigger warning: I’m about to write some really frank and honest shit about cheating. If you don’t want to read about it, that’s totally all right, just skip on to a happier post. For those who want to read this, it’s below the cut.
OK, so I had to wait until I was in a good mood to do this one. I have a visceral reaction to cheaters. Cheating is lying. It has been my experience that if someone will cheat on you once, they’ll do it again and again. Either agree to an open relationship/marriage or stay single and play the field. Hurting someone that deeply is terrible. My first boyfriend ever, the one I lost my virginity to (when I was 17), cheated on me with my best friend in high school. It was a truly ugly thing to experience no matter how cliche. Now, let’s see what our captains would do ———
Yamamoto - *poof* you are a pile of ash.
Shunsui Kyoraku- You are gone, he’s done with you and no excuse will sway him. He will drink himself blind to forget you. Then he will move on to someone better.
Yourichi Shihoin - She probably won’t kill you, but she sure won’t allow you in sight ever again. Avoid all black cats, because if it’s her she will shred your crotch with her claws.
Sui-Feng - She will cut you dead, literally. One of her punishment squad ninjas will make sure your remains are never found.
Gin Ichimaru - You are fertilizer for his persimmon trees.
Rose Otoribashi - He will tell you to get away from him. He will soothe himself with music after purging any trace of you from his home.
Retsu Unohana - OMG
leave the Seireitei immediately. If she catches sight of you, you are dead.
Isane Kotetsu - (Why would you even do this to her?) She’ll cry and sink back into her low self-esteem. Anyone that cheats on her is a piece of shit. She won’t fight you, but I will.
Sosuke Aizen - He will torture anyone you cheated on him with and make you watch as he peels their skin of in thin strips until they die from shock or blood loss. This is a preview to your own demise.
Shinji Hirako - You better hope he doesn’t find out. He will hang you from the ceiling until you pass out. He probably won’t kill you, but you’ll wish you were dead after he’s done telling you what he really thinks of you and your cheating.
Byakuya Kuchiki - Calm. No words spoken. You will be removed from the mansion if you live there, cast into the street with your stuff scattered around you. He will tell you very coldly that you are no longer to speak to him ever again and to stay out of his sight.
Love Aikawa - I believe he’d just walk away. You’re just another disappointment and he’s not wasting another minute on you.
Sajin Komamura - He will be so deeply hurt. He’s so aware of his size and strength, he’ll walk away from you and never look back. However, there will be some trees that get smashed under his fists.
Lisa Yadomaru - She will break some bones – mostly yours. She’ll yell and scream. You’ll walk away alive but barely. She’ll drown her sorrows in porn.
Kaname Tousen - He’ll drop you into his bankai until you go insane from being in the dark for so long. Then, he’ll probably drop you off a cliff.
Kensei Muguruma - Will be tempted to chuck you across the room. He isn’t violent towards women so he’ll yell really loud, cuss you out, then toss you right out of his life. He’ll work out his angst in the gym.
Isshin Kurosaki - It’s over, you are out of his life and away from his kids. Don’t come anywhere near any of them or he may choose to deal with you in his shihakusho.
Toshiro Hitsugaya - Too dignified to make a scene. Fantasizes about freezing you in a big block of ice. Give you a chilly “Go to Hell.” before he turns his back on you for good.
Kenpachi Zaraki - bifurcated. (It means you were cut in two)
Kisuke Urahara - He’s got a deep, dark, scary side that you will see firsthand if he finds out you cheated on him. The man has serious skills, there’s no telling what he’ll do.
Mayuri Kurosutchi - He’ll have a lot of questions why you did it. Like, really specific questions. Once he gleans all the info he wants, you’ll be dispatched with poison.
Jushiro Ukitake - (Here’s another one, why would you ever cheat on this beautiful creature?) He’s not going to make a scene. He’s not going to shed a tear over you because you’re not worth it. He’ll tell you to get out and never come back. Then he will sit with koi and let nature soothe him.
