I'd drown for you

In an alternate timeline, Anxiety never ducks out, and the others never go to his room. Instead, he gains their trust by doing something he never thought would happen.

Also involves an actual explanation for how the sides' home planet works lmao

Takes place in: 2017

Pairing: endgame prinxiety, implied intrulogical, a pinch of moceit

Warnings: drowning, almost death, mention of zombies (specifically minecraft Drowned)

Note, in my au Virgil and Logan have been friends since they were babies and know each other well, so Logan at one point slips and reveals Virgil's name

"So where do you guys live?"

No one was expecting Thomas to ask that.

Thomas had seen the mindpalace, of course. But that was merely Roman's little pocket dimension known as the Imagination. Thomas had never seen the sides' home planet.

"Well, kiddo, it's a bit hard to explain." Patton spoke up. "So you know how... Wait that won't make sense. Uh, Logan?"

Logan sighed. "We are from a separate reality than you. In your reality, there is Earth, whereas we have Azeron."

Thomas looked amazed. "So it's like a different universe?"

"Indeed. And you are aware of the video game Minecraft?"

"...yeah?"

Roman chimed in. "We have mobs in our world! And the Nether and the End exist, too! But the Nether looks a lot different than it does in the game, there's like... Forests of giant mushrooms, and instead of zombie pigmen we have Piglins!"

"Full honestly, I'm the one that first gave Notch the idea of Minecraft..." Patton giggled.

Anxiety spoke up against his better judgment. "We could try to take you there. If you want."

Thomas practically jumped in excitement. "I'd love to see your home!"

Thomas was awestruck. He was seeing a planet no one else on earth could!

The moonlight lit up the castle grounds. The walls shimmered a bit.

"This is where Patton and I live!" Roman gestured grandly at the manor. "I'd let you meet my parents, but they're probably asleep."

"You and Patton live together here?"

"I moved into his brother's old room a few years ago." Patton said.

Logan stepped forward. "I have an idea. Shall we show Thomas the lake? I believe he will enjoy it."

Anxiety nodded a bit.

Roman practically dragged Thomas down the pathway.

The water was gorgeous, despite being murky and dark. It glimmered in the moonlight.

Roman stepped out onto the dock, sighing happily. "My brother and I would come here all the time when we were kids. We would always try and catch a fish bare handed." He chuckled to himself at that.

"Did you ever fall in?"

"A few times." He looked down at the water. "Think I could manage to catch one now?"

Anxiety scoffed. "You're an idiot, it's freezing out here. If you fall in you could get sick."

"Don't be such a killjoy, Anx-Amy Lee."

"That doesn't really work, you should have said it differently."

Roman blushed a deep green as he realized he did indeed mess up the nickname. "Whatever. I'm doing it."

Roman knelt down, sticking his hand in the water without even bothering to roll up his sleeve.

"The fish like to hang out around the dock. Guess they like poles."

"Well, kiddo, is the water cold?"

"Very. It feels like-"

He suddenly went silent.

"Princey, I swear to god, if you're about to freak out because you touched moss or some shit-"

"Something grabbed me."

Everyone froze up. "You mean... Like, someone?" Thomas asked worriedly.

Roman tried to pull his hand out of the water, revealing a decayed hand with a death grip on his wrist.

"Holy shit, what is that?!" Thomas grabbed onto Patton in fear.

"It's a Drowned! Get it off me! Ah-"

Roman was pulled off the dock, and under the water. He struggled to swim free for a moment, before disappearing into the dark water.

Logan pulled out his phone. "I'll call Remus!"

Anxiety's mind was racing. One of his only friends was possibly dying right now.

Patton tried his best to calm Thomas down, as Logan frantically called Roman's brother.

Anxiety took off his jacket, handing it to Logan. "Hold this. I'm going in."

"Virgil, wait-!"

Logan watched helplessly as his best friend dove in after Roman.

Anxiety opened his eyes, wincing as the water hit them. He let his eyes adjust to the low light before diving downward.

That Drowned had pulled Roman down at an angle, meaning Anxiety's best bet would be to swim forward and down.

Weaving through weeds and fish, Anxiety desperately looked for even a glimpse of Roman.

He didn't have much time.

He was already almost out of breath. He needed to surface.

Quickly swimming back upwards, Anxiety surfaced, took a deep breath, and dove back under.

His eyes widened as he saw the moonlight glind off of something metallic.

A chain?

He swam towards the glint.

It was Roman! That Drowned had chained him to an ancient structure...

Roman struggled, desperately trying to break the chains. He was running out of air, and fast. His vision was going dark.

Anxiety swam towards him as fast as he could. He took Roman's face in his hands, looking deep into his eyes.

Roman could tell that Anxiety was trying to say to him, I'm going to get you out of here. Roman nodded, terrified.

Anxiety swam down to the part of the chain connected to the stone monolith and pulled on it as hard as he could. It wouldn't break.

He pulled again. One of the links bent a bit.

Anxiety looked at Roman's face. He was blacking out,he couldn't hold his breath any longer...

Panicking, Anxiety grabbed the chain and kicked it, over and over again until it finally shattered.

But just as it did, Roman fell unconscious, breathing in the water without any control.

Anxiety unwrapped the chain from Roman's body as quickly as possible, before scooping Roman into his arms and swimming back towards the dock.

He was running out of air himself, but he wasn't about to fail Roman.

He powered through until his body forced him to try and breathe the water. He choked, and tried to cough up the water, which only made him inhale more.

He couldn't give up now. Roman was counting on him.

He swam faster than he thought he could, until he breached the surface of the water.

"Virgil!" Logan ran to the edge of the dock, putting out his hand to help Anxiety up.

Anxiety pulled Roman onto the dock, before coughing up the water from his lungs.

Now he had to help Roman do the same.

Roman was unconscious. Anxiety tried to pull the water out telekinetically, but he couldn't grab much without being able to see it.

"Virgil."

Anxiety looked up at Logan.

"If we keep doing that, and we all do it at once... Maybe it'll be enough!"

Remus, who had arrived a few minutes earlier with Deceit, nodded and knelt down by Roman.

Together, Anxiety, Logan, Patton, Remus, and Deceit all magically pulled the water out of the prince's lungs, until...

Roman coughed, sitting up abruptly and taking a deep breath.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

"Anxiety, you..." Roman blushed again. "You saved me."

Anxiety smiled, his now wet eyeshadow pouring down his cheeks. "I did." He suddenly scowled as he looked back towards the shore. "Ah fuck, the news is here."

After a long, annoying interview with the news reporter, Anxiety convinced them to let Roman go home, as well as reminding Logan to give his jacket back. As they arrived back that the manor, Roman and Remus' parents rushed out and hugged Roman tightly.

"Roman, honey, are you okay? Are you hurt?"

"I'm fine, Mom. Thanks to Anxiety." Roman smiled at the emo as he said that.

"Well than, Anxiety, you're in our debt. You saved our son's life." the King spoke up. "If you are ever in need of anything, you just let us know."

"I will, sir. But for now, I think we just need to get Roman to bed."

Logan and Remus bid farewell, heading home, with Thomas going with them to stay the night.

Patton had retreated to his own room, and was now happily sleeping with his arms around Deceit.

That left Anxiety and Roman.

Roman was wearing clean, dry pajamas and was comfortably snuggled into bed,having been tucked in by Anxiety.

But as Anxiety turned to leave, he felt Roman grip his jacket.

"Stay? Please..."

Anxiety turned, looking at the sad expression on Roman's face. He smiled.

"Of course, Princey."

He took off his jacket, hanging it on Roman's coatrack, before climbing into bed next to Roman.

Roman snuggled into him, causing Anxiety to spoon him. Roman immediately relaxed as Anxiety wrapped an arm around him.

"Anxiety... Thank you."

Snuggling into the back of Roman's neck, Anxiety hummed in response.

Roman was nervous. He didn't know if it was a good idea to say what he so desperately wanted to say right now.

...whats the harm?

"Anxiety?"

"Hmm?"

"I..." Roman took a deep breath. "I love you."

He felt Anxiety smile against his neck.

"Love you too, Princey."

Lying in the mountains between Ninglang County of Yunnan Province and Yanyuan County of Sichuan Province, the Lugu Lake (泸沽湖) is 69 kilometers from the Ninglang county town.

The Mosuo People, who live on the Lugu Lake shores and belong to one branch of the Naxi People, still retain the matriarchal custom of “Ahxia walking marriage” (摩梭人的婚姻习俗), in which males and females are not bound to get married and keep a cohabitation relationship. For this reason, the Mosuo wedding tradition is considered to be the “living fossil” of the matriarchal society.

In the sublime Xiaoliangshan Mountains of Yongning District of the Ninglang Yi Autonomous County inlaid a shimmering pearl —— Lugu Lake. It is the native place of “the Females’ Kingdom” composed of the Mosuo people, a branch of the Naxi nationality. In Mosuo language, “Lugu” means “falling into the water” (“hu” means lake in Chinese), hence the name of the lake.

Lugu Lake is located between Ninglang County in Yunnan and Yanyuan County of Sichuan. It is 72 kilometers away from Ninglang County. Its total area is 51.7 square kilometers, the space within the precincts of Yunnan being 27.6 square kilometers. It is 2,685 meters above sea level, counting from the surface of the water, and is, therefore, the lake with the highest altitude in the province. Its average depth of water is 40 meters, the greatest depth being 90 meters. Among Yunnan’s lakes, it stands only second to Fuxian Lake in terms of depth of water. The water of the lake is generally clean and green, with different shades of color: turquoise blue, sapphire blue, white-gray, simply beyond one’s imagination. On the lake are the “pig-trough boats” (“zhucaochuan”) specific to the place. Teeming in the lake are fine-scaled fish, carps, and other species. The lake waters flow eastwards to the Yalong River and finally into the surging Jinsha River.

Lugu Lake is surrounded by high and verdant mountains that are snowbound for over 3 months every year. Since the lake is rather deep, a definite regulating influence is exerted on the temperature of the lake shores. Therefore the surrounding mountains abound in forest resources that afford exquisite beauty, much fresh air, and charming scenery. At present, it is one of the places in China which is least damaged by human efforts and best preserved in its natural features.

Up to now, they still keep remnants of matriarchal society

The lakeshore is inhabited by Mosuo people who have peculiar customs. Up to now, they still keep remnants of a matriarchal society. Men and women are not united by wedlock, each living at the mother’s home respectively. Yet they keep a casual cohabitation relationship. Thus the place is called “A Quaint Realm of Matriarchy”. The male and female youth of the Mosuo people, having fostered mutual love in the long period of productive labor and social activities, begin to reciprocate “tokens”.

The male party, in accordance with his economic conditions, presents the female party with gold or silver ornaments, jade bracelets, beads and silk threads, etc. The “tokens” returned by the female party are generally some personal accessories that the other party likes. Given such affection on both sides, the seniors of the male party would bring some “loquat meat”, and some tea, sugar, or wine to pay a visit to those of the female party. Once an agreement is obtained from them, an Axia (spouse) relationship is established for the two. However, such a relationship can also be fixed without going through the above procedure.

After this, the two parties continue to live in their own homes. The male “Axia” labors for his home in the daytime, and goes to the female “Axia” at night for cohabiting with her in her bedroom. The family of the female “Axia” looks upon the male as one of its own members. During the busy farming season, the male “Axia” goes to the home of the other party to help with farm work. Those who have fixed their “Axia” relationship call each other “Azhu”, which means “dear companion”, but never husband or wife. Therefore, it is not appropriate to speak of “father”, who instead is only referred to as “maternal uncle”. The female is predominant and is, therefore, the leader of a family. All family members are descendants of the same matriarchal lineage.

Scholars have come to the conclusion that the Mosuo matriarchal culture has, to a certain extent, solved major problems troubling today’s modern society, such as social positions of both sexes, sexual harassment, deterioration of relationships, family feuds, the maltreatment and loneliness suffered by old people, and last but not least the harmony between mankind and nature. With the Mosuo’s goddess worship and the remnants of the matriarchal period, the Lugu Lake area is indeed one of the rare specimens of “the Female’s Kingdom” in the world and a “living fossil of the matriarchal society”.
