I know you had previously said that you thought Adaine might have gone from a Battlesmith Artificer to an Armorer Artificer. If that's not what you're feeling for the au anymore feel free to ignore this ask. But I'd love to know what her Steel Defender might have looked like (Boggy?)
yep it is boggy! he's still a frog, specifically bc I think it plays off class swap adaine's fascination with body mods and distance from her own body very well. I honestly don't think I can even settle on one single look for him bc I imagine adaine would be tinkering with him whenever she needs to ground herself and every time he gets re-summoned he is a little bit more fucked up lol. at least one iteration is fully soft robotics

Destacas. Pueden verte, identificarte. Te prestan atención. Pueden escucharte, reconocerte. Esperan algo de ti. No puedes escapar, no puedes huir. No puedes hacer nada, ni debes intentarlo, sabes con seguridad que solo los decepcionarás. No es opción usar tu voz. Porque te caerás

i would /love/ to see danielle radford play sklonda, she would absolutely kill it (especially if the game were set after sklonda's passed her bar exam)
Ohhh that's such a good answer! As a former paralegal she'd kill it with any of the lawyer stuff Brennan threw her way. Hell, she'd probably throw some unexpected lawyer stuff *his* way. And also I'm just always here for more Danielle. She's such a fun player.

haven't toxic fh posted in awhile so here's a thought I had the other day that I think gets overlooked all too often. I think since most people in the fandom rn haven't watched third life properly in awhile and have a stronger impression of it based in fanart/fanfic, the collective consciousness has forgotten that flower husbands was supposed to be a gag, first and foremost.
Scott and Jimmy at the time were not aiming to tell a tragic love story, they were playing up a gay shippy bit like every other SMP does. When you watch it without any narrative interpretation or c/cc divide, it becomes really clear the FH interactions are supposed to be funnier than genuine.
Jimmy's funeral sequence is a great example of this. It's the fandom that made this moment tragic and about Scott's mourning, the bit in Scott's video itself consists of Scott fake-crying in a very jokey way and then showing a compilation of Jimmy dying as Jimmy's "best moments" -- very much in line with the jimmy bullying humour we often see in these videos.
Retroactively because he stalks the fandom, I do think Scott swayed to the side of playing FH up as if it really was a "storyline" but it's very clear to me that at the time 3L was recorded there was no intention of it being seen as anything more than a bit or unserious shipbait. It makes sense too since this was the first season before any establishment of the storytelling element that draws so many fandom goers in became acknowledged by the CCs.
And I think alot of the toxic interpretations in the first place come from the "gag" parts of FH, the parts that are just the bullying bit repackaged with a side of "I hate my wife" that go from silly to disturbing when you reapply the same dialogue in a context that takes it all seriously. Plus I do think there's something in there at least for me re: already not being huge on the bullying bit or sitcom humour that makes the toxic interpretation all the more dominant because now my choices in terms of how to view this relationship are 1. mid unfunny bit or 2. the most harrowing depiction of abuse I've ever seen and one of those is a lot more fun to explore than the other in art and writing.

i think the key here for me is the level of agreement to that social contract though. like, when Scott was partnered with Martyn, that worked bc both of them take this very strategic/transactional view of alliances in the series, so Martyn turned on him on a dime and Scott was okay with that because it was an assumed part of the contract to him.
Scott's relationship with Jimmy is different though, because Scott and Jimmy don't agree to the same relationship, and Scott's assumption that they do essentially removes Jimmy's autonomy. Rebuilding Jimmy's base in 3l, for example, is something Scott does without Jimmy's knowledge or consent. Would Jimmy have agreed had he been asked? Maybe! He does seem happy with it. But the fact of the matter is that Scott assumes Jimmy's comfort level with Scott taking charge in their alliance without discussing it with him.
The "say I love you back" scene is another place where Scott assumes agreement to a transactional relationship without that agreement ever being given. Limlife Jimmy and Scott are not in any sort of established relationship. Scott comes to Jimmy and offers the deal that Jimmy can kill him if he eliminates Tango, the only other green name left. Jimmy denies this deal and gives Scott 30 seconds to run before he starts following him. Scott thinks he's been owed nonaggression, citing that he gave Jimmy a Pufferish of Peace, but the fact of the matter is that Jimmy never agreed to that. And then while leaving, Scott says he loves Jimmy and starts demanding that Jimmy say it back.
All that Jimmy has actually received from Scott at this point in this scene is the words "I love you." That does not entitle Scott to the same. You can't make someone care about you - a person's love/affection is theirs to give to who they see fit for whatever reason they see fit. But Scott doesn't see it that way - in his mind, the very act of saying "I love you" to someone requires that they reciprocate, regardless of what they actually feel about you.
Pearl is somewhere in the middle of these two. She's more willing to play the game to a certain extent, but she clearly is looking for an emotional connection in her partnerships that is less important to Scott. (Notice how Pearl reaching out to people says she's looking for "friends", whereas Scott prefers using the term "alliances.") So they come into conflict in one universe but get along fine in another, because the circumstances of Last Life vs. Double Life highlight the areas where their understanding of partnership come into conflict.
ok but im obsessed with scotts transactional view of loyalty and partnership. he's not upset about Martyn's betrayal because he's like "well if it was just the two of us i would've sacrificed myself to him anyway, so this works!" when he's trying to console Pearl in DL he's like "no it's better strategically for us to split up so the reds have to fight through two health bars" completely missing that he's abandoning her Again. even the "say i love you back" scene shows that he's thinking of love as something he's Owed for treating Jimmy well in the sense of the game. this man is incapable of considering people's feelings he's a strategist to a fault

Every time I see you reblog something related to another IF I remember that you're just an IF fan who decided to take up writing one day. You're one of us… which means you understand the pain of a writer dragging their feet. ಠ︵ಠ
Just kidding!
In all seriousness, the thought of you being just another IF fan makes me happy. Knowing that the author of my favourite WIP is just like me makes me excited for the finished product. Keep being amazing!!!
My lovely secretary does a lot of the reblogging, but I am very much an IF fan, for sure! This is actually my third attempt at taking up choicescript and it's the first to get serious (there are no prior WIPs or anything, I just tried to learn CS a couple times over the years); I've always had a ton of fondness for the overarching genre.
It's a little crazy to think that essentially, coming back from a break of not much IF and re-reading the first FH and having a proper run at FH2 finally (then playing a bunch of Night Road and the Creme de la Creme series) is what ignited my enthusiasm for writing DYVJ. :)
